Persuasive Essay On Sodium Nitrite
It is important to eat healthy and have a nutrious balanced diet. There are many diet fads over the
years, low carb high protein diet. Paleo diet that requires you to eat what human ate in the
Paleolithic pirord. Then there are food to avoid and compounds that you should never have or they
will compromise your health. Monosodium glutamate, high fructose corn syrup and sodium nitrate
all depicted as poisoning our bodies. Sodium nitrites are found naturally in plants and Americans eat
vegetables every day without harm. A growing trend is to ban the use of sodium nitrite to keep our
food healthy, not knowing sodium nitrites is safe to eat as long as you don't overdose on it. Sodium

Sausage, ham, deli meats although have sodium nitrates are high in fat in what makes it unhealthy.
We shouldn't say foods high in fat and also have sodium nitrates as a reason to avoid sodium nitrate.
Since only 7% of the sodium nitrites we consume come from added sodium nitrate sources our
consumption from non–natural source are very small. "The processed meat eaten today contains
about 80% less nitrites than it did a few decades ago".(Gunnars) Meaning the food is a lot heathier
then most people think today, Some processed meats like bacon due to the cooking process of high
heat cooking the nitrates can turn into compounds called nitrosamines which is a carcinogen. So
cooking bacon on lower heat for longer can significantly reduce the formation of nitrosamines also
the microwave is been known as a safe way to cook bacon.
Who doesn't enjoy a BLT sandwich, beef jerky, hotdogs or a nice ham during the holidays, spinach,
lettuce and celery? What do all those have in common is the use of sodium nitrates to give the meats
its color and flavor all love and natural sodium nitrates found in vegetables. Sodium nitrates
prevents bacteria growth and can help to lower blood pressure. Yes there are some concerns and

Speech On Crawfish
Ragin' Cajun Rice Stuffed Bell Peppers with Crawfish
Spring in the South means it's crawfish eatin' time! There's crawfish pie, fried crawfish, crawfish
étouffée and, of course, crawfish boils (or crawfish parties as our New Orleans friends call it). You'll
hardly find a town across Arkansas, Louisiana or Mississippi that doesn't have a rendition of a
crawfish boil going on somewhere even if it's somebody's backyard.
"We have Crawfish" signs start popping up like jonquils in early spring and restaurants can hardly
open their doors before selling out when crawfish are featured on the menu.
Growing up, we called them crawdads or mudbugs. They provided hours and hours of cheap
entertainment. First, there was the catching 'em which was a good ... Show more content on

Osmosis Lab Report
Introduction
In science today people understand the process of Osmosis. By using osmosis people of this age can
find out amounts of water in different permeable membranes such as cloth, sand/dirt and paper.
Things that aren't permeable are things that don't allow water to go through it like glass, its surface
is hard and strong and solid so nothing is able to go through it.
Osmosis is the passage of a solvent like water through a semi permeable membrane, for example
say someone has a sponge for cleaning and they dip it into a bucket of water, that sponge will take
in water because there is a greater concentration on the outside of the sponge then the inside of the
sponge and from that he/she will notice that the amount of water increases inside of the sponge. In
1748 a scientist named Jean–Antoine Nulet was the first person to ever record osmosis. ... Show

Water Flow Up Hypothesis
Water Flowing Up The purpose of this lab was to figure out how capillary action affects the amount
of H2O in a cup that is sucked up by a plant. The Hypothesis was: If the celery is placed in a cup of
100 mL of H2O and left to sit for 3 days, then the amount of H2O in the cup will decrease. This is
because capillary action forces the H2O up the stem and into the leaves, where the H2O is used in
photosynthesis to make sugar. There was no control and only experimental groups. The dependent
variable is the amount of water in the cup. There is no dependent variable. The constants were: the
celery, the cup, the environment, the food coloring mixture, the air, the water, unit of measurement,
and the measuring cup. The materials are Celery, a plastic cup, food ... Show more content on

The data answers the question from the problem statement by showing that there is a direct
correlation between the amount of water in the cup and capillary action. The celery stalks changed
color in the colored water. Capillary action aids the transpiration process by supplying water which
can then evaporate because of transpiration. My hypothesis was accepted because over the course of
the three days, the level of water in the cup decreased from 100 mL to 90 mL. Some possible
sources of error were measurement misreading and evaporation. Measurement misreading could
have caused a misreading which could have increased or decreased the amount of change that really
happened to the water level. Evaporation could have slowly lowered the amount of water in the cup,
and thus decreased the accuracy of the results. What was learned is that capillary action transports
water sucked up by the roots of a plant to the leaves of the plant so that the leaves have the water
they need for photosynthesis. The results support that capillary action has a profound effect on how
plants get their water for

Celery Respiration Lab Report
The relationship between the celery, water temperature, and capillary action in the celery is the
transpiration, adhesion, cohesion, osmosis, and respiration processes. Respiration is related to this
experiment because when the water evaporates from the leaves(transpiration), it pulls water from
the tubes of the celery, called xylems, and causes the water to rise, as well as the capillary action
causes the rising. Water molecules are attached to each other through cohesion, so they don't want to
"let go" of the other water molecules they/it is attached to. We saw evidence of this when we cut
down the celery in small slivers until we saw the dye that had risen up the tube. The hot water
traveling up the celery's xylems was unsuccessful because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Capillary action uses both adhesion(water "holding" on to a surface) and cohesion (water holding on
to water). The adhesion lets the water gradually grab onto the surface of the xylems and "pull" itself
up the stalk of the celery, or any tube small enough for this. Cohesion lets the water molecule(s)
hold onto other water molecule(s) and pull eachother up while they are using adhesion at the same
time to climb up the xylem walls. Transpiration relates to both adhesion and cohesion because the
water is able to connect to eachother while being pulled up by the water going out of the leaves.
This relates to our experiment because when the first trial was run with the stalks without leaves, the
water went up a very small amount, but did not go up nearly as much as when the leaves were left
on the celery stalks. Cohesion and adhesion were being used through capillary action during the first
trial, but the second tria, transpiration was combined to

Descriptive Essay On Squirrel Hunter Gumbo
Squirrel Hunter Gumbo
The first documented references to gumbo, according to Dr. Carl A. Brasseaux of the University of
Louisiana at Lafayette, was in 1803 when gumbo was served at a gubernatorial reception in New
Orleans. Since then gumbo has become a symbol of Louisiana cooking and like any recipe that has
time to evolve the accepted methods can become blurred from one cook to another. While many
types of gumbos exist within Louisiana itself just wait until an outsider gets a taste and takes it
home, which is just what I did many years ago. I was living in a tent in New Iberia Louisiana while
refurbishing helicopters for an off–shore logistics company. I learned to enjoy gumbo while living in
New Iberia and now want to share with you my gumbo recipe made with squirrel meat. My first
bowl of gumbo was in a restaurant in Louisiana and when the lady set it down in front of me I
remember wondering if something was wrong. I actually called her back and asked her why there
were bones sticking out of my soup. She told me that was the way they made gumbo and walked
away. OK the taste was great so I began eating and when I wanted some chicken I just grabbed a
bone out of the gumbo. Then I got a shrimp in my mouth and crunched into the tail which had been
left on as well. I enjoyed that bowl of gumbo, sort of, but vowed to make it myself without the
bones and this is just one example of changing a recipe to suit your taste.

Potato Celery Lab
Part I In procedure A of part I, the celery soaked in saltwater was much more flexible than the celery
soaked in distilled water. This was the expected result because when soaked in saltwater, the celery
would presumably lose water and water is generally what gives fruits and vegetables their crispness.
Of course, malleability of celery is not quantifiable, so it is difficult to say for sure that the
flexibility of the celery really changed drastically and that being soaked in the saltwater caused the
change. Perhaps, in addition to just observing the celery after soaking it, the experiment would have
benefitted from massing the pieces of celery before and after just to be sure that the change in
flexibility can be attributed to a gain or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though I did not know exactly at which point the potato and solution would be in equilibrium, I
knew that the change in mass would be positive, approach zero, and then gradually increase in
negativity, which can also be seen in the almost linear shape of the graph. In this way, the
experiment stuck to the expected trend without any outliers. My group did not encounter problems
carrying out this lab, but any miniscule ones were apparently minor enough to have little impact on
the collected data. While I was able to find the approximate water potential of the potato, about –
78.24 bar, the important part of this lab was seeing the trend that the data follows. Similar results,

The effect of the solution concentration of water on diffusion in celery compared to the solution
concentration of sodium chloride
Abstract
In order for most organisms to maintain homeostasis or a balance of water and solutes outside and
inside a cell diffusion has to occur (cite). The purpose of this experiment was to determine the rate
of diffusion of celery when placed into water and NaCl. I established a hypothesis that stated;
sodium chloride would make the celery weigh less compared to water. The celery was placed into a
hypotonic solution of water, a hypertonic solution of 1 M NaCl and their weight was measured at
ten minute intervals for 60 minutes. The weight changes for all the pieces ... Show more content on

As shown in Table 1, the average weight of the celery in water after 10 minutes was 0.178 grams, 20
minutes was 0.048 grams, 30 minutes was 0.048 grams, 40 minutes was 0.044 grams, 50 minutes
was 0.002 grams, and after 60 minutes it was 0.018 grams. Table 2 shows that the average weight of
the celery in sodium chloride after 10 minutes was –0.06 grams, 20 minutes was –0.076 grams, 30

equal variances. The p value for a one tail test calculated to be .0002, with an alpha level of .05. I
also averaged the change in weight of the celery for each solution within the 60–minute interval and
constructed a bar graph. The bar graph, Figure 2, indicates that the average weight of the yam core
in water is greater than in sodium chloride. (Need to explain not just

Capillary Action
Water is essential to all life on earth, especially plants. However, plants cannot gallop up to a stream
and slurp water from its bountiful bends as a horse would. Plants require a certain mechanism called
capillary action.
Celery is recognized as one of the healthiest foods in the world, which is not surprising considering
that it is made up of 95% water. The reason that this leafy vegetable has such a high water
concentration is because it is made up of several small, confining tubes that each suck up water, just
as if it were a bundle of drinking straws. Capillary action is what it is called when a liquid, usually
water, is drawn upward into a narrow tube or opening due to the special attraction between certain
liquids and objects. Cohesion is the ability of water molecules to stick to each other and create
surface tension, and adhesion is the ability of water to stick to a material, like the inner tubes of a
plant. The adhesion of those water molecules to the inside walls of a narrow tube will cause an
upward force on the liquid and make a sort of curve of water at the top with surface tension holding
the surface intact. Capillary action occurs in plants as a way to disperse water throughout the plant
to keep it alive and functioning. Though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of this experiment is to test the relationship between ionic solutes and the ability of

concentrations of the ionic solute because it is manipulated only by the one conducting the
experiment, and the dependent variable is the distance that the substance travels up the celery stalk
because it is responding to the independent

Purpose Of A Service Learning Project
The purpose of this service–learning project was to educate and provide evidence based knowledge
to associates that work at ShopRite in Flemington, N.J. on easy ways to identify, selected foods,
which are beneficial to a similar looking body part. For example, the kidney beans are beneficial to
the kidneys except if someone has kidney disease. My aim was to increase the knowledge of
ShopRite associates so that they will be able to identify and more importantly recall quickly while
shopping what foods are good for what parts of the body. The importance of associating foods that
looks like body parts help keep learning simple, fun and informative. The best way to learn is to
engage in an activity where learning does not appear to be the objective. Accidental learning can
'stick' so that when individuals are trying to incorporate healthy eating options into their diet
recalling it will be simple. The food that was agreed upon to use was Walnuts, Celery, Carrots,
Ginger, and Mushrooms. A brochure of each food was created. On the first page displayed a picture
of the food and a question asking, "But what body part do they look like?" Upon opening the
brochure the picture of the body part was beside a picture of the food in focus. In addition evidenced
based facts were displayed, a healthy recipe for that particular food, and a mandatory statement,

How Does Water Rise In The Tubes?
YOU ARE HERE: HOME / BIOLOGY / CAPILLARY ACTION Capillary Action APRIL 29, 2010
BY JANICE VANCLEAVE Capillary action is due to the cohesion of water molecules with each
other and the adhesion of the water molecules with the walls of the glass tubes. Capillary Action is
also called wicking, which is the ability of a substance to draw another substance into it. In the
diagram, three different size glass tubes are standing in a container of colored water. Notice that the
water rises to a different height in each of the tubes. The more narrow the tube, the higher is the
water. Question: Why does the water rise in the tubes? Answer: First we need to identify two types
of attractions between molecules. 1. Adhesion: The attraction between unlike ... Show more content

Discover for Yourself 1. Fill a plastic cup about one–fourth full with water. Add about ten drops of
red food coloring and stir. 2. Select an inner stalk of celery. You want one that has pale green leaves.
3. Use scissors to cut across the end of the celery stalk. Observe and make note of the color of the
cut end of the celery stalk. Also make note of the color of the leaves on this stalk. 4. Stand the celery
stalk, cut end down, in the red water. 5. Observe the color of the color of the leaves on the celery
stalk periodically for two or more days. Results: The pale green leaves take on a reddish color. This
is because the red coloring dissolved in the water and moved with the water through the xylem tubes
in the celery stalk and leaves The red coloring was deposited in the leaves, but most of the water
evaporated through tiny opening in the leaves. The evaporation of the water from plants is called
transpiration. This evaporation of the surface water from the xylem tubes results in more water
being pulled into the roots to keep the xylem tubes filled. Thus, there is a continued movement of
water through the

A Short Story In 'The Celery Stalks At Midnight'
A.
Differentiating between a "framed" story and a "straight line" story can be identified by deciphering
the location of the climax and where the story ends. For instance, the "framed" story delivers
patterns that move from one to another, building encounters, and deviations that lead to the climax
which then end there. A
"framed" story also is a story that has another on within it. As in "The Celery Stalks At Midnight", it
begins and ends with the talking animals. However, a "straight line" presents a story where the
tension of the conflict is enough to keep you interested and full of wonder. This type of story is
eventful, thoughtful and fun to read as in the "book Sector 7". No words, using your own adaptation
of what the pictures are trying to display in conflict and resolution.
B.
Episodic plots entail a succession of tales related by familiar characters, resolving a different
conflict in each chapter. The characters themselves are consistent in their behavior and relationships.
A progressive plot comes to a climax followed by a denouncement. As soon as the climax is
revealed the interest may be lost so, the end of the story must be concluded.

She shoves as much food and supplies as she could find into her gummy bag. Some of the items she
packs were: cake pops, butter cakes, star treats, sweets tarts, long licorice string, a sugar light, and a
few gummy clothes. Buttercup steps very lightly as to not wake her parents. Once she was outside
she felt something that she has never ever felt before, she wasn't sure what it was but it did not feel
good at all.
This morning wasn't as pleasant as the previous day, there was a brisk wind that had come down
from Mount Toblerone. Buttercup quickly and quietly runs to Twinkie's house and went around to
knock on her window instead of her door. Twinkie was startled at first but then realized that it was
just her friend Buttercup. Twinkie opens her window and asks what was wrong.
"We need to run away, right now before anyone sees us," pronounces Buttercup.
Even though Twinkie was more adventurous than most other candy people, she still had the loving
personality that Candytown required. Because of this she hesitated before saying, "Alright, I will go
with you, but only since you are my best friend and I know you would do it for me."

Celery Fields
Corporate selfishness and greed have been the motivation behind deforestation, pollution, and utter
disregard for nature. These actions have been happening for centuries, but now it is creeping into the
greater Tampa Bay Area. In Sarasota, a popular bird watching site named Celery Fields is being
threatened by an industrial recycling company. This company had planned on destroying Celery
Fields for their own personal gain, but luckily, a cluster of protesters has stepped up to oppose this
avariciousness. With an active group taking action, the need for alert is low, but the need for
awareness is as high as ever. To prevent further situations similar to this, we must take a look at
some examples of how truly vile corporations have been to nature ... Show more content on

On June 1st, a turnout of over 130 protesters showed up at the footstep of that building. After the
five–hour hearing, the county planning board recommended county commissioners reject the plan
when it comes before them. The issue has been deterred and there is no need for alarm, for now.
However, there may be a time in which corporations show up again and threaten sites of exploration
and serenity. It is important to pay close attention to local issues in order to act on, or else the risk of

Chapter 1: Aphrodisiac Food
Chapter 1 Aphrodisiac Foods For centuries, humans believed that anything that resembles the
genitals (as weird as it sounds!) can possess sexual powers. Sea food, vegetables and spices are the
common traditional aphrodisiac foods found in different cultures.
Try these aphrodisiac foods to boost your appetite for some bedroom action:
Oysters
The Ancient Romans believed that oysters are the most powerful and effective aphrodisiac there is. I
recommend eating oysters raw which is best served with crushed ice and seaweed. The legendary
Casanova was also a fan of oysters and had the habit of eating 50 raw oysters every morning with
the lady he fancied.
Scientifically speaking, oysters are low in fat and high in zinc which is said to increase sperm and
testosterone levels ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Ancient Egypt, celibate priests were even forbidden to eat onions because of their sexual effects.
Arab folklore suggests pounding onion and mixing it with honey to achieve better results (might be
a good idea to mix the two ingredients in a salad, right?).
Truffles
Truffles are expensive fungi that have a pungent odor, but are also known as a potent aphrodisiac.
The scent of truffles is said to mimic that of andostenone which attracts the opposite sex. During the
Roman times, Libyan truffles were con– sidered to be the highest rated truffle; however, its
popularity grew weak and was only rediscovered during the eighteenth century in France.
Asparagus
The shape of asparagus is said to be a symbol of its aphrodisiac qualities. I recommend boiling the
asparagus and frying it with some healthy fat (coconut oil or olive oil) to enhance its properties.
However, while asparagus can be sexually stimulating for men, it has the oppo– site effect on
women.

Raadish Seeds
Developing the radish seeds was a fun experiment. When I was studying the celery in the glasses,
the container that had practically no salt appears to demonstrate that water went up from the base
into the clears out. At the point when salt was included, the procedure was much slower. In view of
the unequal dispersion, salt pushed water out of the celery instead of into it. I believe that the celery
was attempting to dodge root harm from the salt so it pushed down as opposed to up. Salt appeared
to have negative impacts in both parts of this analysis as it likewise appeared to moderate the rate of
germination in radishes. The more salt present, the slower the procedure of germination could be
completed. Developing the radish seeds was a fun

Why Is Drinking Water The Best Way To Stay Hydrated
You are probably well aware of the fact that drinking water is the best way to stay hydrated.
Drinking water is even more important during the summer months because dehydration is more
likely to occur. You can also keep yourself hydrated by adding water–rich foods to your diet. Below
is a list of some of the foods with the highest water content: Cucumbers Cucumbers are made up
about 95 percent water. Eating a cucumber can hydrate you as much as drinking a glass of water.
Not only are cucumbers hydrating, but they are also rich in vitamin C. In fact, one cucumber will
provide you with about six percent of the vitamin C that you need for the day. You can include
cucumbers in your salads, soups and dips. Strawberries Eating strawberries can

What Does Starbucks Cause An E. Coli Outbreak?
Starbucks has revealed that they recalled one of their sandwich menu from its 1,000 different store
locations after learning that the specific product has been suspected to be contaminated with E.coli
bacteria.
The largest coffee chain has stopped selling its holiday turkey panini after being linked to an E.coli
outbreak. Though there were no reports of infected customers, the food company took the initiative
to recall the sandwich in order to ensure the safety of the consumers.
The Food and Drug Administration of the United States has found that the celery from Taylor Farms
Pacific Inc. caused an E.coli outbreak to the customers of Costco. The said company is also the
supplier of Starbucks which led the coffee company to recall their sandwich product that also
contains celery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was confirmed by the spokesperson of the company Erin Jane.
Health officials first observed the bacteria in the chicken salad of Costco. This alarmed the
authorities and ordered for a recall to prevent the consumers from being ill. The health professionals
got more concerned when the test on the chicken salad turned out positive. Five people were
affected and were brought to the hospital due to the E.coli.
The FDA has already extended the recall which included 150,000 other items besides the chicken
salad. The agency is now scrutinizing Costco, 7–Eleven, Target, Albertsons, Safeway and Wal–Mart
Sams Club to see if any of their food products were contaminated.
The E.Coli outbreak began with the restaurants of Chipotle which caused the chain of restaurants to
shut down its 43 different branches because many consumers have been affected.

delightment for celery is the reason fall is his most cherished season. The pleasure he receives from
feasting on celery is so great it helps him look forward to even the dreadful winter. This passage is

How Gardening Affects The World Of Science
Introduction
Science offers children, many different hands–on, mind–on experiences, allowing them to explore
and engage in the world around them. This report covers how gardening allows students to immerse
in the world of Science. Exposing children to the different stages of gardening allows them to
explore and connect how and why things happen, and help them to build awareness towards the
environment in which they live in. There are three different gardening experiences in this report,
which were observed and documented weekly. The three plants in this report include; a black bean,
which was planted from seeds, a celery offcut and radish, which was planted from seeds. Each had
different stages of development, which were investigated, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Each lesson is designed to allow students to have a hands–on mind–on experience by connecting
what was learnt and with the world around them.
Growing a garden
The black bean seeds were planted in a pot, which contained soil from the backyard vegetable
garden and cow manure. The pot was placed outside, in the shade of other plants in the backyard.
By day eight the seeds had not germinated; therefore the pot was moved where it would get more
than six hours of direct sunlight a day, which was the suggested amount required (Grow This, 2016,
para. 3). With enough sunlight and the soil being watered each day the seeds germinated by day
sixteen. The growth then became very rapid; however, there were signs of bugs eating the leaves
due to the holes that could be seen. A bug spray was applied to the plant in the hope that the plant
will survive. This spray was used twice a week and helped keep the bugs away and allowed the
leaves to continue to grow.
The black bean plant was exposed to a hot and dry Summer. By planting the black bean in a pot, it
meant that shade could be applied when the harsh weather was due to arrive (Tuton, 2010, para. 3).
The pot was relocated on days which would damage the growth of the plant and then returned to the
previous location when the weather cooled down.
The stems of the black bean plant measured in at 15 centimetres and sticks were added to help with
the growth. However,

What pH the Enzyme Named Peroxidase Works Best At Essay
What pH the Enzyme Named Peroxidase Works Best At
The aim of my investigation is to find out what pH the enzyme named peroxidase works best at. We
can find the enzyme peroxidase if we grind up celery, or most other animal and plants. A chemical
reaction in plants and animals produce hydrogen peroxide, this can poison them if it is allowed to
accumulate. The enzyme peroxidase acts as a catalyst for decomposing hydrogen peroxide, it is
broken down into water and oxygen. The reaction is:
2H20 = 2H20 + O2
(Aq) (L) (G)
I plan to measure the amount of oxygen given off by the celery at different pHs and whichever pH
helps the enzyme produce the most oxygen. Before I do this I ... Show more content on

The enzyme will be working at the pH 7 the majority of the time and our bodies will have adapted
to suit the enzyme and help it work better.
In my preliminary plan, I will investigate how much oxygen is produced when the enzyme hydrogen
peroxide and some slices of potato are added together. This experiment is very similar to the celery
one with the exception that it is potato slices not celery slices. This experiment will give me an idea
on what I should change or keep the same. It will also make me aware of the other variables in the
experiment and what I need to change about them to get the best results. The enzyme is also
strongly affected by temperature; hydrogen bonds are easily disrupted by increasing temperature.
This, in turn, may disrupt the shape of the enzyme so that its affinity for its substrate diminishes. We
must take into consideration this and I will explore what affect the temperature can have on the
enzyme in my preliminary plan.
For this experiment I will need:
1. Stop clock
2. Cork borer
3. Inverted burette
4. Potato
5. Safety equipment e.g. safety goggles
6. thermometer
7. conical flask
8. gas measuring cylinder

Essential To Life Lab
Introduction
The main focus for this lab is to determine why and how water is so essential to life. To begin with,
water transports molecules around the body which is in fact very important because afterwards the
body gets rid of any waste or toxins in which is unecessary for the body to keep. In addition, water
keeps many ogranisms alive and growing, water can range in three different tempetures such as;
solid, liquid and gas, in the end all of these occur on the earth. Waters scientific term is H2O which
conclude; hydrogen and oxygen atoms, hydrogen is known to be a positive charge and oxygen has a
negative charge and together end up having no charge, which makes the molecule polar. The
purpose of this study is to dive deep and determine waters importance to life and why it is so
essential.
Method For our experiment, we first filled three beakers up with water in different temperatures,
such as; warm, room temperature, and ice. We then added three drops of red dye and placed one
stick of celery in each beaker with water and red dye. We then waited 10 minutes, took the
temperature again, which showed change and then we waited 10 more minutes. After ... Show more

In total, 71% of the world is made up of water, this means that without water surrounding us; the
earth would be impossible for humans to live on, in addition for any plants or trees to grow which in
fact provide us with oxygen. The purpose of our experiment is to prove how celery absorbs water
from the roots in order for it recieve the necessary nutrients for it to stay alive and grow. Our data
shows the levels of different temperautes affecting how far the celery absorbs the water. The ice
water absorbed more water because the soil and roots usually tend to be cooler and fresher, which is
why we can conclude that the colder water was absorbed more than the other temperatured

Persuasive Essay On Sodium Nitrite

  • 1. Persuasive Essay On Sodium Nitrite It is important to eat healthy and have a nutrious balanced diet. There are many diet fads over the years, low carb high protein diet. Paleo diet that requires you to eat what human ate in the Paleolithic pirord. Then there are food to avoid and compounds that you should never have or they will compromise your health. Monosodium glutamate, high fructose corn syrup and sodium nitrate all depicted as poisoning our bodies. Sodium nitrites are found naturally in plants and Americans eat vegetables every day without harm. A growing trend is to ban the use of sodium nitrite to keep our food healthy, not knowing sodium nitrites is safe to eat as long as you don't overdose on it. Sodium nitrates is one nitrogen molecule with three oxygen molecules ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sausage, ham, deli meats although have sodium nitrates are high in fat in what makes it unhealthy. We shouldn't say foods high in fat and also have sodium nitrates as a reason to avoid sodium nitrate. Since only 7% of the sodium nitrites we consume come from added sodium nitrate sources our consumption from non–natural source are very small. "The processed meat eaten today contains about 80% less nitrites than it did a few decades ago".(Gunnars) Meaning the food is a lot heathier then most people think today, Some processed meats like bacon due to the cooking process of high heat cooking the nitrates can turn into compounds called nitrosamines which is a carcinogen. So cooking bacon on lower heat for longer can significantly reduce the formation of nitrosamines also the microwave is been known as a safe way to cook bacon. Who doesn't enjoy a BLT sandwich, beef jerky, hotdogs or a nice ham during the holidays, spinach, lettuce and celery? What do all those have in common is the use of sodium nitrates to give the meats its color and flavor all love and natural sodium nitrates found in vegetables. Sodium nitrates prevents bacteria growth and can help to lower blood pressure. Yes there are some concerns and learning all the facts can make sure you make an informed decision when it comes to skipping the ham on the next ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There's crawfish pie, fried crawfish, crawfish étouffée and, of course, crawfish boils (or crawfish parties as our New Orleans friends call it). You'll hardly find a town across Arkansas, Louisiana or Mississippi that doesn't have a rendition of a crawfish boil going on somewhere even if it's somebody's backyard. "We have Crawfish" signs start popping up like jonquils in early spring and restaurants can hardly open their doors before selling out when crawfish are featured on the menu. Growing up, we called them crawdads or mudbugs. They provided hours and hours of cheap entertainment. First, there was the catching 'em which was a good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Osmosis Lab Report Introduction In science today people understand the process of Osmosis. By using osmosis people of this age can find out amounts of water in different permeable membranes such as cloth, sand/dirt and paper. Things that aren't permeable are things that don't allow water to go through it like glass, its surface is hard and strong and solid so nothing is able to go through it. Osmosis is the passage of a solvent like water through a semi permeable membrane, for example say someone has a sponge for cleaning and they dip it into a bucket of water, that sponge will take in water because there is a greater concentration on the outside of the sponge then the inside of the sponge and from that he/she will notice that the amount of water increases inside of the sponge. In 1748 a scientist named Jean–Antoine Nulet was the first person to ever record osmosis. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Water Flow Up Hypothesis Water Flowing Up The purpose of this lab was to figure out how capillary action affects the amount of H2O in a cup that is sucked up by a plant. The Hypothesis was: If the celery is placed in a cup of 100 mL of H2O and left to sit for 3 days, then the amount of H2O in the cup will decrease. This is because capillary action forces the H2O up the stem and into the leaves, where the H2O is used in photosynthesis to make sugar. There was no control and only experimental groups. The dependent variable is the amount of water in the cup. There is no dependent variable. The constants were: the celery, the cup, the environment, the food coloring mixture, the air, the water, unit of measurement, and the measuring cup. The materials are Celery, a plastic cup, food ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The data answers the question from the problem statement by showing that there is a direct correlation between the amount of water in the cup and capillary action. The celery stalks changed color in the colored water. Capillary action aids the transpiration process by supplying water which can then evaporate because of transpiration. My hypothesis was accepted because over the course of the three days, the level of water in the cup decreased from 100 mL to 90 mL. Some possible sources of error were measurement misreading and evaporation. Measurement misreading could have caused a misreading which could have increased or decreased the amount of change that really happened to the water level. Evaporation could have slowly lowered the amount of water in the cup, and thus decreased the accuracy of the results. What was learned is that capillary action transports water sucked up by the roots of a plant to the leaves of the plant so that the leaves have the water they need for photosynthesis. The results support that capillary action has a profound effect on how plants get their water for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Celery Respiration Lab Report The relationship between the celery, water temperature, and capillary action in the celery is the transpiration, adhesion, cohesion, osmosis, and respiration processes. Respiration is related to this experiment because when the water evaporates from the leaves(transpiration), it pulls water from the tubes of the celery, called xylems, and causes the water to rise, as well as the capillary action causes the rising. Water molecules are attached to each other through cohesion, so they don't want to "let go" of the other water molecules they/it is attached to. We saw evidence of this when we cut down the celery in small slivers until we saw the dye that had risen up the tube. The hot water traveling up the celery's xylems was unsuccessful because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Capillary action uses both adhesion(water "holding" on to a surface) and cohesion (water holding on to water). The adhesion lets the water gradually grab onto the surface of the xylems and "pull" itself up the stalk of the celery, or any tube small enough for this. Cohesion lets the water molecule(s) hold onto other water molecule(s) and pull eachother up while they are using adhesion at the same time to climb up the xylem walls. Transpiration relates to both adhesion and cohesion because the water is able to connect to eachother while being pulled up by the water going out of the leaves. This relates to our experiment because when the first trial was run with the stalks without leaves, the water went up a very small amount, but did not go up nearly as much as when the leaves were left on the celery stalks. Cohesion and adhesion were being used through capillary action during the first trial, but the second tria, transpiration was combined to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Descriptive Essay On Squirrel Hunter Gumbo Squirrel Hunter Gumbo The first documented references to gumbo, according to Dr. Carl A. Brasseaux of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, was in 1803 when gumbo was served at a gubernatorial reception in New Orleans. Since then gumbo has become a symbol of Louisiana cooking and like any recipe that has time to evolve the accepted methods can become blurred from one cook to another. While many types of gumbos exist within Louisiana itself just wait until an outsider gets a taste and takes it home, which is just what I did many years ago. I was living in a tent in New Iberia Louisiana while refurbishing helicopters for an off–shore logistics company. I learned to enjoy gumbo while living in New Iberia and now want to share with you my gumbo recipe made with squirrel meat. My first bowl of gumbo was in a restaurant in Louisiana and when the lady set it down in front of me I remember wondering if something was wrong. I actually called her back and asked her why there were bones sticking out of my soup. She told me that was the way they made gumbo and walked away. OK the taste was great so I began eating and when I wanted some chicken I just grabbed a bone out of the gumbo. Then I got a shrimp in my mouth and crunched into the tail which had been left on as well. I enjoyed that bowl of gumbo, sort of, but vowed to make it myself without the bones and this is just one example of changing a recipe to suit your taste. • 9. Potato Celery Lab Part I In procedure A of part I, the celery soaked in saltwater was much more flexible than the celery soaked in distilled water. This was the expected result because when soaked in saltwater, the celery would presumably lose water and water is generally what gives fruits and vegetables their crispness. Of course, malleability of celery is not quantifiable, so it is difficult to say for sure that the flexibility of the celery really changed drastically and that being soaked in the saltwater caused the change. Perhaps, in addition to just observing the celery after soaking it, the experiment would have benefitted from massing the pieces of celery before and after just to be sure that the change in flexibility can be attributed to a gain or ... In this way, the experiment stuck to the expected trend without any outliers. My group did not encounter problems carrying out this lab, but any miniscule ones were apparently minor enough to have little impact on the collected data. • 10. Cell Diffusion Lab Report Jessica Camano Professor Goldina April 20, 2016 The effect of the solution concentration of water on diffusion in celery compared to the solution concentration of sodium chloride Abstract In order for most organisms to maintain homeostasis or a balance of water and solutes outside and inside a cell diffusion has to occur (cite). The purpose of this experiment was to determine the rate of diffusion of celery when placed into water and NaCl. I established a hypothesis that stated; sodium chloride would make the celery weigh less compared to water. The celery was placed into a hypotonic solution of water, a hypertonic solution of 1 M NaCl and their weight was measured at ten minute intervals for 60 minutes. The weight changes for all the pieces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 11. Capillary Action Water is essential to all life on earth, especially plants. However, plants cannot gallop up to a stream and slurp water from its bountiful bends as a horse would. Plants require a certain mechanism called capillary action. Celery is recognized as one of the healthiest foods in the world, which is not surprising considering that it is made up of 95% water. The reason that this leafy vegetable has such a high water concentration is because it is made up of several small, confining tubes that each suck up water, just as if it were a bundle of drinking straws. Capillary action is what it is called when a liquid, usually water, is drawn upward into a narrow tube or opening due to the special attraction between certain liquids and objects. Cohesion is the ability of water molecules to stick to each other and create surface tension, and adhesion is the ability of water to stick to a material, like the inner tubes of a plant. The adhesion of those water molecules to the inside walls of a narrow tube will cause an upward force on the liquid and make a sort of curve of water at the top with surface tension holding the surface intact. Capillary action occurs in plants as a way to disperse water throughout the plant to keep it alive and functioning. Though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Purpose Of A Service Learning Project The purpose of this service–learning project was to educate and provide evidence based knowledge to associates that work at ShopRite in Flemington, N.J. on easy ways to identify, selected foods, which are beneficial to a similar looking body part. For example, the kidney beans are beneficial to the kidneys except if someone has kidney disease. My aim was to increase the knowledge of ShopRite associates so that they will be able to identify and more importantly recall quickly while shopping what foods are good for what parts of the body. The importance of associating foods that looks like body parts help keep learning simple, fun and informative. The best way to learn is to engage in an activity where learning does not appear to be the objective. Accidental learning can 'stick' so that when individuals are trying to incorporate healthy eating options into their diet recalling it will be simple. The food that was agreed upon to use was Walnuts, Celery, Carrots, Ginger, and Mushrooms. A brochure of each food was created. On the first page displayed a picture of the food and a question asking, "But what body part do they look like?" Upon opening the brochure the picture of the body part was beside a picture of the food in focus. In addition evidenced based facts were displayed, a healthy recipe for that particular food, and a mandatory statement, "The information provided is not intended to replace medical advice. • 13. How Does Water Rise In The Tubes? YOU ARE HERE: HOME / BIOLOGY / CAPILLARY ACTION Capillary Action APRIL 29, 2010 BY JANICE VANCLEAVE Capillary action is due to the cohesion of water molecules with each other and the adhesion of the water molecules with the walls of the glass tubes. Capillary Action is also called wicking, which is the ability of a substance to draw another substance into it. In the diagram, three different size glass tubes are standing in a container of colored water. Notice that the water rises to a different height in each of the tubes. The more narrow the tube, the higher is the water. Question: Why does the water rise in the tubes? Answer: First we need to identify two types of attractions between molecules. 1. You want one that has pale green leaves. 3. Use scissors to cut across the end of the celery stalk. Observe and make note of the color of the cut end of the celery stalk. Also make note of the color of the leaves on this stalk. 4. Stand the celery stalk, cut end down, in the red water. 5. Observe the color of the color of the leaves on the celery stalk periodically for two or more days. Results: The pale green leaves take on a reddish color. This is because the red coloring dissolved in the water and moved with the water through the xylem tubes in the celery stalk and leaves The red coloring was deposited in the leaves, but most of the water evaporated through tiny opening in the leaves. The evaporation of the water from plants is called transpiration. This evaporation of the surface water from the xylem tubes results in more water being pulled into the roots to keep the xylem tubes filled. Differentiating between a "framed" story and a "straight line" story can be identified by deciphering the location of the climax and where the story ends. For instance, the "framed" story delivers patterns that move from one to another, building encounters, and deviations that lead to the climax which then end there. A "framed" story also is a story that has another on within it. As in "The Celery Stalks At Midnight", it begins and ends with the talking animals. However, a "straight line" presents a story where the tension of the conflict is enough to keep you interested and full of wonder. This type of story is eventful, thoughtful and fun to read as in the "book Sector 7". No words, using your own adaptation of what the pictures are trying to display in conflict and resolution. B. Episodic plots entail a succession of tales related by familiar characters, resolving a different conflict in each chapter. The characters themselves are consistent in their behavior and relationships. A progressive plot comes to a climax followed by a denouncement. As soon as the climax is revealed the interest may be lost so, the end of the story must be concluded. C. Person –against–self : My person–against–self struggle is going back to college, spending so much time doing school work and not spending it with my family.
