1. How does your media product
present particular social groups?
My magazine will address teenagers (primarily male) as the
majority of fans of underground music are teenagers and as the
magazine features hip-hop (a more male acclaimed genre) I
believe it will attract more males than females. I think the photos
give off a moody impression which is associated with
underground music as the pictures feature people grimacing in
dark clothes in dim-lit urban areas yet the articles challenge the
usual stereotypes of the as they are written positively about the
artists coming out of the underground and reaching mainstream
popularity. I have done this to challenge the stereotypes that
underground music should remain unpopular forever.
2. What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?
• A media group which I believe might
distribute my magazine is the Bauer media
group as they already have specialised music
magazines such as Kerrang (Metal) and Q
(Classic mainstream rock/pop) whereas they
are lacking Indie underground music in which
publishing rivals IPC specialise in (NME)
3. How did you attract / address your
audience?
• My magazine will address teenagers (primarily male) as

acclaimed genre) I believe it will attract more males than
females. I think the photos give off a moody impression

4. How did you attract/address your
audience?
• My magazine attracts my target audience as the
listeners of underground rock hip/hop are
predominately young men and my cover star is a
young man and most of the feature articles
revolve around male bands. It attracts the
audience with incentives also as we offer the
chance of free concert tickets on the puff on the
front cover. The colour scheme is also dark and
the photo locations are all urban which is
associated with independent urban music.
5. What have you learned about technologies
from the process of constructing this
product
• Throughout the process of my magazine I have learnt
how to use software such as quark express when making
my contents and double page spread. I also learnt how
to use new features on photoshop such as the sponge
tool to make the cover star look darker. Also the cut tool
so the cover star would go over the mast head to follow
traditional conventions of a magazine cover.
6. Looking back at your preliminary task what do you feel
you have learned in the progression from it to the full
project
From my preliminary task to my main task I have learnt how to properly and
successfully apply the codes and conventions of a magazine cover and have learnt
how to use more photoshop features such as
