Endangered Animal<br />What animal have you chosen to investigate?<br />I have chosen the kakapo a rare bird that is native to New Zealand.<br />What does your animal look like?<br />It is the world’s largest parrot it has the colours green, brown, and yellow.<br />Where does your animal live? (Habitat)<br />It lives in native forests and also rainforests.<br />What things does it need to survive?<br />It needs its habitat and protection in order to survive and also food and water.<br />What does it eat?<br />The kakapo is an herbivore; its diet includes berries from rimu trees, nuts, fruit, seeds, and native plants.<br />How does it fit into the food web?<br />The kakapo is a tropic 1 consumer i.e. it only consumes autotrophs meaning it is an herbivore.<br />Why is your species endangered?<br /> Kakapos were once the 3rd most popular birds in the world so people began to hunt and kill them for their popularity and food there are no less than 120 left now.<br />What organisations are helping your species? How are they helping?<br /> The Kakapo recovery partnership part of the Department of conservation are helping the kakapo survive the organisation are raising money for the kakapo towards the breeding programme. <br />By Tianrui Guan <br />
