Satire In Blessed Are The Poor, By Mark Twain
Mark Twain's writing gives the impression that he follows an unexplored and uncharted path. While
writing for newspapers, he exposed himself as an inventor and he actually patented three inventions.
While he visited places to deliver his lectures he was celebrated for his fine and exceptional sense of
humour. At times his speeches and writings bear the mark of satire about the mentality and
behaviour of people in the United States of America. Satire is a tool for making remarks about
absurdities of the society is a casual and mocking way.
Mark Twain is known for several distinct stylistic traits. His writings are noted for its outstanding
and recurrent use of dialect. Dialect is the distinct mode that a group of people from a confined

He thinks the Sunday schools curb the liberty of little boys and girls. According to him religion
should not be taught with a compelling attitude. Mark Twain mocks at the typical and monotonous
church activities which make children to feel bored. He speaks about the minister who "turn[s]
himself into a bulletin–board"(49) by reading long and tiresome lists of a variety of meetings, the
"little German boy"(49) who delivers Biblical verses without a pause and then undergoes a nervous
breakdown, or the people, and people like Mr. Walters and Judge Thatcher pretend to be sincere and
dedicated. Tom Sawyer also does the same thing and Mark Twain thinks that Sundays should be
meant to be spent according to the taste of the individuals and not according to the order of others.
In such a case even religious sentiments vanishes off and the faith in God gets minimized. When the
church service is disturbed by dogs Tom Sawyer thinks, "Tom Sawyer went home quite cheerful,
thinking to himself that there was some satisfaction about divine service when there was a bit of
variety in it"

The 1970s: The Economic Crisis Of The 1970s
There are certain times of crisis that occur in every country and in every society and when the
United Kingdom was struck by an economic crisis during the 1970s, it resulted in a dramatic change
in thinking and way of life of a large group of youths, living during that time. In order to understand
this issue thoroughly, we need to look on the most important aspects that triggered these changes in
society of the United Kingdom in 1970s, most importantly, we need to revise the economic situation
of that time, which was one of the most significant triggering mechanisms that changed the way
people, mainly youth, approached living. The emergence of the punk subculture is a very interesting
phenomenon and thought–provoking time period, which gave ... Show more content on

When the United Kingdom was experiencing the economic crisis, the youths started to alienate from
the formal society. The high unemployment was a critical factor in forming the punk subculture.
There were a lot of angry youths with a lot of free time, who wanted to rebel and break the rules of a
seemingly degrading society. The breakage of the rules took place in many aspects, but the most
significant ones were definitely music, style of clothing and presenting oneself. Most of the early
punks actually did not really know any music theory or how to play an instrument of any kind
correctly. This enabled them to create their own rules and a feeling of seemingly orderless music
flow which underlined the philosophy of chaos. Another important aspect, which enabled punks to
alienate from mainstream society was style of clothing and use of symbols that shocked "normal"
people, like Nazi swastikas that were often present of on their t–shirts even though they were anti–
Nazi, or religious symbols like crosses, even though they were anti–religion. Essentially, the
ultimate punk goal was to destroy every kind of establishment, religion, system and basically
everything that can tie a person and behind all this was an urgent need to basically change the world
by destroying it.

Music Subcultures
Encompassed by warm, leather seats, I hummed along to the soothing melody of "Both Sides Now."
My parents' music had been ingrained in my brain since infancy. Elvis Costello, John Denver, and
Kenny Loggins were originally introduced as devices to encourage naps on long car rides. But soon,
these melodious tunes became favorites. While studying journalism, I travelled to London on a field
trip to enhance my skills. Flung into the massive British Library, I was told to find a story. Yet,
despite its countless recourses, the library offered no article ideas. Without a reader's pass, I was
denied entry into almost every room. After 30 minutes, I stumbled upon an unrestricted exhibition.
Greeted by explicit t–shirts and edgy album covers, I wandered ... Show more content on

While often misconstrued, punk's message was one of inclusivity and transformation. In its time,
and even today, the Sex Pistols and the Clash were labeled demoralizing. Regardless, punk bands
aimed to combat racism, thoughtless taboos, consumerism, and unjust governments. Resulting
banned shows and censored songs, however, did not deter these artists. Although I wouldn't call
myself an avid fan of the actual music, an appreciation for punk artist's inflammatory philosophy
formed within me. Perhaps punk was angry, and it was most certainly offensive, but it did so with a
definitive purpose. Punk's true power lied in its ability to inspire a generation to think for
themselves. The music allowed and even required its audience to question everything they were

Stereotypes: Black Men are Prono to Violence
People from black communities are undoubtedly overrepresented in the forensic mental health
system, this anomaly is impacted heavily by the fact that the system seriously disadvantages black
people within their remit (Narco, 2007; Department of Health, 2003). African–Caribbean people are
more likely to receive coercive forms of care, spend longer in hospital and experience greater rates
of transfer to higher security facilities (NIMHE, 2003 cited in Vige, 2005). Figures show that, at
each heightened level of security in the psychiatric process, black people are increasingly
overrepresented, from informal to civil detention, and then in detention on forensic sections within
the courts and criminal justice system. Evidence, establishing the ... Show more content on

Black people are excessively socially excluded and as with crime, mental illness is associated with
social exclusion. (Racism in Mental Health, 2005). Discrimination is imbedded within practices
resulting from ways in which the services are organised, in the case of staff they are in charge of
diagnosing and selecting criteria's for treatment, they focus on indicators of dangerousness seen to
be found in black patients (Wade, 1993). White patients within the system also manage to remain
the dominant population because of the stereotyping of black patients as dangerous and the social
exclusion of black staff by management (Wade, 1993).
High Profile Cases
Restraint may on occasion be the only intervention capable of protecting individuals from serious
harm. Black patients are likely to be subject to this because of the stereotype that they are naturally
violent and aggressive. Concerns about violence are validated, but it would appear that racial biases
in perceptions of dangerousness influence the management of black patients (Barnes & Bowl 2001;
Spector 2001 cited in Keating & Robertson, 2004). This is borne out by the fact that, in a study
comparing black and white patients, despite having lower scores on aggressive behaviour, black
patients were perceived as being more dangerous (Bhui 2001 cited in Keating & Robertson, 2004).

The Migration Of The International Nurse Migration
The age of globalization has social, economical and political impact in developed and developing
countries. The main impact is seen in migration of work forces from one country to another. Like
other professionals, many nurses travel elsewhere within or outside the country to pursue better
economic, social and political situation. The international nurse migration has become a growing
concern globally because of its impact on health care systems in both developing and developed
countries. Basically, the pattern of nurse migration is from developing to developed countries, which
could be natural or manipulated. Predicted shortages of nurses in developed countries, opportunities
for professional development and better wages than their native countries are the major motivating
factors of nurse migration. On the other hand, low pay, political instability, lack of resources to work
effectively and limited career opportunities are the pushing factors which tends nurses to migrate
from developing countries to developed countries. The percentage of foreign educated nurses
working in countries like Australia, Canada, United Kingdom and United States represent 5% to
10% of these countries's total nurse workforce. In Newzealand and Switzerland internationally
educated nurses represent 27% and 30% respectively. It concludes that foreign educated nurses are
contributing significantly in healthcare delivery system in many developed countries and fulfilling
the shortage of nurses in

Why Nations Fail : Economic Growth And Prosperity
Question 1:
The central thesis of AR in their book "Why Nations Fail" is that inclusive economic and political
institutions drives economic growth and prosperity. Extractive institutions, on the other hand, where
the majority work for the benefit of the few impedes and sometimes block economic prosperity. The
other part to the theory is that inclusive economic and political institutions are often the outcome of
conflict between elites resisting economic growth and political change and those working to put
limits and constrains on the economic and political power of existing ruling elites.
Inclusive institutions emerge during critical junctures, for example during the Glorious Revolution
in England. This happens when circumstances weaken the grip of elites of power and control, their
opponents become stronger, and incentives for pluralistic society are created.
There many characteristics for inclusive institutions: They allow free press to flourish, respect for
property rights, fair and independent judicial system, removes barriers to entry for new businesses,
and allow people to make decisions and choices that they like. They also provide public services
such as roads, communication and health services that support business and trade.
As an Example, AR provide England, USA and Australia as countries with inclusive institutions.
The inclusive institutions in England came into existence as a result of conflict with monarchy and
the ruling elites that led to the

Prenatal Stages
This essay will examine the health outcomes of the social determinate of early life, including both
prenatal and postnatal phases. Siddiqi, Irwin, & Hertzmen (2007) define early life as the period from
conception until eight years. The prenatal phase will explore the effects of drug use, smoking and
alcohol, which is associated with poor health outcomes for the baby. Nutrition and health care
access will be considered for both phases. Other factors considered for the postnatal phase are the
environment of the child and family dynamics. The effects of health outcomes on education and
employment and their relevance to early life will also be contemplated. The immediate and long
term affects on health will be considered. For the purpose of this essay the term parents will refer to
the persons responsible for the child. The health affects of early life are expansive and far–reaching
also affecting family and community health, however it would be impossible to discuss every aspect
in an essay of this length. Therefore just the person will be considered. The ... Show more content on

Living in an abusive environment has a vast array of effects on children. More severe physical and
sexual abuse towards a child could cause physical harm such as fractures and internal injuries (Lane,
Bair–Merritt, & Dubowitz, 2011). These injuries would probably cause the child to experience
severe pain and potentially cause permanent disability, disfigurement or death if not treated. It has
been indicated that childhood abuse affects mental health and can increase susceptibility to
depression, anxiety related disorders, ADHD and suicidal ideation. These issues could affect
children throughout their lives and some may not surface until various stages of life (Comijs et al.,
2013; Hart, & Rubia, 2012; Norman et al., 2012; Sugaya et al., 2012). This is not an exhaustive list

Sancho's Use Of Symbolism In Don Quixote
Unlike with Woody, it is unclear exactly when Sancho realizes that Don Quixote is living in a
fantasy world. As he is sometimes caught up in the fantasy himself, Sancho must be aware of Don
Quixote's madness, particularly since he uses it to outwit him. In chapter twenty, Don Quixote
declares his courage and fearlessness after hearing the sound of rushing water, to which Sancho
claims that he cannot simply go around the noise and unnecessary danger and pleads with him to
consider his life and the life of his own beloved wife. Alas, Don Quixote is not swayed by his pleas
which forces Sancho to take action. He ties Rocinante's hind legs together so that when Don Quixote

In the case of the toys, who are very much aware of the means of their existence, are unsure of what
to make of Buzz's peculiarity. For example, the character known as Mister Potato Head, in his reply
to Buzz's odd origin statement says: "Oh really? I'm from Playskool." which provides obvious proof
of his skepticism (Toy Story). However, in Don Quixote, the skepticism of the villagers and various
other people he and Sancho met along their journeys were more hostile towards his interpretation of
reality and often highly skeptical of his extravagant claims. The villagers and toys responses to Buzz
and Don Quixote are a fine representation of reality in two ways, the first being that reality tends to
ignore or even humor that which is not real such in the case of Toy Story, and the second being that
reality is cruel as shown in Don Quixote as the villagers berate him for going on his chivalrous

Sid Vicious Research Paper
Sid Vicious was born on May 10, 1957 in London, England. He had a difficult childhood. His father
left when he was young. His mother grew deep in debt and she developed a heroin addiction. As he
grew up Vicious adopted a punk and rebellious style. He dropped out of high school and became a
vocalist for a couple of bands including The Flowers of Romance and The Vicious White Kids. In
1977, the manager of the Sex Pistols, Malcolm McLaren asked Vicious to join the band. Sid Vicious
met Nancy Spungen in 1977, he brought her on the Sex Pistols' U.S. tour. During the tour the band
broke up after only eight concerts. This was because of their constant drug use and personal
conflicts. One of the biggest conflicts was the band's dislike of Spungen. After the band broke up,
Sid Vicious went solo with Nancy Spungen as his manager. This did not work out well because the
two of them were on drugs most of the time. They took heroin, barbiturates, and a synthetic form of
morphine. They lived in the Chelsea Hotel in Manhattan and spent most of their time there. Their
constant drug use caused their relationship to start falling apart. They began beating each other,

Essay on Rock And Roll
History of Rock and Roll
Punk rock developed in the United States out of the raw and energetic music adored and played by
garage bands of the mid–sixties. Many of these garage bands were started by kids in their teens who
hardly knew how to play simple chords on a guitar or bang away at drums or cymbals in their own
garages. The music was often played at a high volume as well.
The MC5 epitomized this. The MC5 (Motor City Five) was a high school punk band from Lincoln
Park, Michigan. They played with a very loud and angry style. Their lyrics, which were refused
airplay, were obscene and profane. The right combination of ... Show more content on

Sid Vicious, bassist, never learned to play bass. Their sound was exactly what McLaren was looking
for. They set the tone for punk music. They sang about living in the slums of London for their whole
lives. Their guitar, bass and drums were distorted and the vocals were shouted. Although most of
their songs were banned from British television and radio, they were still climbing the charts.
They thought it might be time to come to America. However, instead of playing the usual punk
scenes, such as CBGB's and Maxwell's, they played bars in suburbs and other trashy places far from
main cities. The band broke up in 1978.
Many bands tried to follow the Sex Pistols' example. The Clash began opening and touring with the
Pistols and became a big hit. They also played simple songs
3 with lyrics about the situation they were coming from. They incorporated SKA into their music,
which made them unique. Their songs were short and to the point and the people loved it.
The development of punk is indeed a reaction to the glam rock of the seventies, but it is also a
reaction to the years before it. For example, the sixties were a time of worry free, free love. "Peace"
was a commonly used phrase. Musicians of this time would sing about this

Bounty hunter Levi Owens glared at the wanted poster one last time. The word "Reward" stretched

he needed was two weeks to track the bank swindler and another to drag his worthless hide back to
Austin. All he wanted–was to shoot him dead. He loaded the last bag of provisions on the pack mule
and finished tying a tarp over the top of the supplies. His horse Rio snorted and flicked his smoky–
black ears. A welcome breeze eased the sticky July heat and Levi mopped his brow. His eyes locked

had double–crossed his gang and left a note revealing his plan. He expected the Bedford gang to

from the landmarks to the loot. The other half, showing the landmarks, he tucked inside his best
shirt at home with the note. If he died, he figured she would bury him in that shirt. Cyrus never put

probably took for granted that Parker wouldn't find his half of the map. But a gang member brought

Beloved Character Analysis
The story "Beloved" is developed around the decision Sethe makes when she returns to slavery and
decides to murder her baby with a hacksaw. Her choice of doing such action results in the
reincarnation of Beloved later on in the story with unknown intentions. When Sethe kills her child,
she feels no remorse towards what she has done, due to her lack of knowledge regarding the terrible
act she has committed. Sethe's choice of killing her baby was wrong as it left her mentally suffering,
was inhumane, as well led to a series of unfortunate conflicts that the characters face. In Sethe's
view, " Not only did she have to live out her years in a house palsied by the baby's fury at having its
throat cut, but those ten minutes she spent pressed up against dawn–colored stone studded with star
chips, her knees wide open as the grave, were longer than life, more alive, more pulsating than the
baby blood that soaked her fingers like oil." This means that Sethe lived with the pain of knowing
what she did to her baby and in order to get something written on the baby's grave she had to pursue
in a terrible act. This demonstrates that Sethe went through so much emotional and physical pain
throughout her life due to her dead baby. Another example of why killing her baby was wrong is,
"So Denver took her mother's milk right along with the blood of her sister." Morrisons point is to
show that Denver as a child had to experience and be a part of Sethe's terrible blood bath of her own
daughter. This is important because no one likes the idea of a little kid being involved with
something so devastating. The fact she was attached to her own sister's blood is scarring. According
to Paul D, "What kind of evil you got in here?" This exemplifies that when Paul D first stepped into
124, he sensed the death and anger within the house coming from Beloved. What is more important,
the idea of Paul D having sense the evil within the house when he first walks in shows how strong
the dead baby is. The choice of killing the baby left the characters in awful or important situations
within the story, especially for Sethe. An example of a conflict Sethe experiences if when she says
"They took my milk!" This exemplifies that milk that was for her

Hostility Against the World Trade Organization,...
Hostility against the World Trade Organization (WTO), International Monetary Fund (IMF), and
World Bank Far from being seen as objective entities, the World Trade Organization (WTO),
International Monetary Fund (IMF), and World Bank are often conceptualized as instruments of the
developed world. It is alleged that they are used to enforce crippling economic policies upon the
developing world. To some extent, it is perhaps inevitable that these international institutions are
seen as such. The memory of colonial exploitation in Latin America, Africa, and other developing
nations runs deep, and the power dynamic of these institutions relative to the nations they are
ostensibly helping often echoes the relationship of the colonizing to the colonized. Another reason
for the hostility directed towards these economic entities, however, is the extent to which they are
viewed as implementing a 'cookie cutter' policy of neoliberalism that is insensitive to the diverse
needs of affected countries. "The WTO, IMF and World Bank have been major counterparts in the
creation and management of the modern world economy. Their activities are endorsed by
economically dominant governments and corporations who favor neoliberal policies and free–
market solutions of debt–based finance and international trade as the route to poverty reduction"
(Makwana 2013). Critics contend that neoliberalism has left affected nations with "crippling debt
and a fragile economy," while supporters contend that

The Effects Of Unauthorized Migration On The United States
Vicious Cycle
Unauthorized migration in the United States has turned into a "Vicious Cycle" of adverse effects that
sustain a system of underdevelopment, reduced productivity, low–wage, and limited rights
(Hinojosa, 2015). This is the reality of many migrants that leave their country of origin in search of
economic mobility. The push factors that influence people's decision to migrate are primarily
economic and security. Poverty, lack of employment, opportunities, and economic mobility along
with high rates of violence and crime drive people out of their home countries which tend to be in
the Global South and into the Global North where developed nations like the United States have pull
factors that attract the excessive labor from developing nations. Demand for low–skilled labor,
higher paying wages, social and political stability, quality education, and greater wealth are some of
the many qualities that make advanced nations the preferred destination.
The "Vicious Cycle" begins with the push factors that cause people to migrate out (Hinojosa, 2015).
Lack of opportunities take people across treacherous borders in the hopes of reaching their
destination, a country like the United States in which they find a decent paying job that allows them
to sustain themselves and their loved ones back home (Hinojosa, 2015. The inflow of remittances to
a home country add up to millions and sometimes billions for some countries. The large cash inflow

The Progression Of Sid Vicious And Nancy Spungen 's...
When looking into the progression of Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen's relationship, it is not a

information, you start to make assumptions about the musician and his girlfriend. It isn't until you

may have never been a part of their lives, but a relationship of need. A place where a mentally
disturbed girl and a lonely man can escape from everything. From the very beginning Nancy was
not like other children. From the moment she was born she was known for her temper; started with
screaming and moved to vicious tempura tantrums. By time she was in elementary school she
continually focused her rage at her younger sister and threatened to stab her baby sitter with a pair of
scissors. Later in her elementary school years she tried to beat her psychiatrist when the woman
belittled her actions as being nothing but a stunt to get attention. She was soon expelled from her
public elementary school for ditching and was placed into a private school, which led to her running
away and cutting her wrists in an attempt to commit suicide. By time she was 15 she was diagnosed
with schizophrenia. Before reaching collage she was well known for being incredibly intelligent. So

Dorothy Parker : The Feminist Movement
Dorothy Parker An Inspiration
Dorothy Parker was a famous poet who lived from August twenty–second, 1893 to June first, 1967.
From the feminist movement in 1848, to the modernist movement and the jazz age in the twentieth
century, Dorothy Parker made a long lasting impact, and was also an inspiration to both movements.
Dorothy parker's common themes were anxiety and female passivity which shined through many of
her poems. Dorothy Parker was born two months premature to Jacob Henry and Eliza Annie
Rothschild, both of which died while Parker was fairly young. Eliza Rothschild passed when
Dorothy, also known as Dot or Dottie, was only five years old. Leaving her with her father, whom
she despised and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This bluntness and wit, was what truly brought her fame. In Dorothy Parker's poem "The Last
Question" she presents a theme of anxiety, as well as female passivity. In the first of her two stanza
poem, Dorothy Parker presents the reader with her anxiety of where her newfound love will lead
her. She questions where it will take her, as though in fear of it dragging her to a dark place to be
abandoned, where she won't be able to escape. "The key terms in the second line are "'narrow"' and
'"crooked."' (Poetry for students, 131). These words in the second line are an example of Dorothy's
wit, for both words have a double meaning. Crooked has synonyms of devious, dishonest, or
deceitful, which if compared with her anxiety shows that she fears her new lover, or the respondent
in the poem, not being trustworthy or honest, leading her down a path built on lies and distrust that
only narrows in on her. In the third and fourth lines, Parker questions how this newfound love will
quench her thirsts, most likely for love and an adventure. "The speaker [Dorothy Parker] asks how

Pit Bulls: Are They Really the Monsters They're Made out...
Have you ever heard about a TV show called Pit Bulls and Parolees on Animal Planet? The show is
about a woman named Tia Torres and her family that have come together to advocate for pit bulls.
Tia Torres is the owner of the Villalobos ranch where she rescues pit bulls and parolees and re–
educates both to be better for society. Some people believe that the dogs and the people are un–
trainable and not worth the time to re–educate them. Ms. Torres is using the media to help the dogs
and parolees so that people get a better idea of what it takes to re–train a dog and to help parolees to
try and get a better chance of retuning to a better life. There are still people that have the
misconception that the dogs are bad because of their breed and ... Show more content on

Several breeds implicated in a majority of dog–bites or fatalities such as Pit bulls, Rottweiler,
German shepherds, huskies, wolf hybrids and five other breeds. Pit bulls and Rottweilers are first
and second on any list that involved dog bites. Lallanilla goes on to state that no matter how the data
is arranged, mixed breeds versus pure breeds, injuries versus fatalities, pit bulls are ranking at the
top of the list and that Rottweilers are at a distant second.
Such statistics can be interpreted to characterize dogs as "inherently dangerous" as a Maryland court
of appeals stated in a 2012 article entitled "Are pit bulls inherently dangerous?" written by Jennifer
Viegas, "Inherently dangerous" is suggests that either pit bulls are born vicious or that their
environment contributes to them being dangerous, but science does not support this theory. A
veterinarian, Jennifer Scarlett, of the San Francisco SPCA states, "It is possible to breed in or out
certain traits, with some dogs purposefully bred for fighting." Scarlett continues to say that when
this was done with foxes the trait that affected their personality can appear in just two to three
generations. Pit bulls that that are bred this way tend to be more aggressive towards other dogs and
not towards people. Scarlett says that she disagrees with the Maryland court because there are many
highly socialized and trained pit bulls

John Parker Analysis
It was April 18th 1775 and John William Adams climbed out of bed and walked across the room. He
was dressed in a long white linen shirt that flowed down to his knees. The sleeves were a bit tattered
and dirty, but it was the only shirt he owned. He walked over to the wash basin and started his
morning ritual of shaving. It was expected that all members of the American militia be clean shaven.
He splashed some cold water on his face from the wash basin and reached for his Perret razor which
had an l–shaped wooden handle and long straight blade. After shaving he reached for his wool
stockings and slipped them on. John Williams mother Constance had made the stockings from
lamb's wool the summer before. He pulled his tan breeches on and fastened his wool coat as he set

John Parker was a newly appointed Captain of the Lexington militia. He was a tall man with jet
black hair. Parker was a much larger man then John William but even though his size made him look
intimidating, he was a very nice man. When he found out about John Henry passing, he took a
special interest in John William and he found that very comforting. John Parker and the Lexington
militia were put in place because the year before the Provincial Congress of Massachusetts had
suggested that every town reconstitute its militia company and that citizens train to learn military
skills.
The group lacked the proper military supply of weapons and equipment. Everything that the men
possessed was their own property. The men had a varied assortment of weapons and ammunition.
Most of John Williams's militia members had very old and outdated equipment that was issued to
them during the French and Indian Wars. A couple carried French made weapons obtained from the

A Glimpse of Dorothy Parker's Life Essay examples
A Glimpse of Dorothy Parker's Life
Dorothy Rothschild, later to become the famous writer Dorothy Parker, was born on August 22,
1893 to J. Henry Rothschild and Eliza A (Marston) Rothschild in West End, New Jersey. Parker's
father, Mr. Rothschild, was a Jewish business man while Mrs. Rothschild, in contrast, was of
Scottish descent. Parker was the youngest of four; her only sister Helen was 12 and her two
brothers, Harold and Bertram, were aged 9 and 6, respectively. Just before her fifth birthday,
Dorothy's mother became very ill and died on July 20, 1897. Three years later in 1900, Mr.
Rothschild remarried to a 48 year–old spinster widow, Eleanor Frances Lewis, who Dorothy
referred to as "the housekeeper." The new Mrs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her husband, Eddie, served in the armed forces and after being stationed at various bases in the US,
he was shipped off to war and also had to remain after the war for the occupation in Europe. Another
big step in Dorothy's career occurred shortly soon after, she replaced P.G. Wodehouse as a drama
reviewer for Vanity Fair, the sister magazine of Vogue. Because of their long separation and both
developing into different people, when Eddie returned from the war things were not the same.
However, they stayed together and Dorothy continued to publish several works as well as pursuing
an active role in the literary social scene of New York City. In the end though, after two failed
suicide attempts and the continuation of her gaining a greater sense of self and knowledge, Dorothy
eventually divorced Eddie in March of 1928.
Before marrying her second husband, Alan Campbell in June of 1934, Parker went through two
more failed suicide attempts (in 1930 and 1932) and published Death and Taxes (1931), a collection
of poems, and two sets of stories, Laments of the Living (193) and After Such Pleasures (1933). For
the next several years, Dorothy became very successful as a screenwriter in Hollywood and
continued publishing works and contributed to as well as worked for literary magazines. In 1947,
Dorothy divorced Campbell, but three years later they remarried in 1950.

Break Of Day Themes
Break of day a novel written by author Tony palmer, about a young man
named Murray Barrett, a soldier in world war two and some of his life before
the war. This essay will be discussing Palmer's contention with the themes of
Family secrets and how they can cause trouble, death and how we all face it
and bravery and the circumstances of bravery.
Palmer's contention about the theme family is family secrets can cause trouble
and confusion. An example of this is "Uncle Jack". Uncle Jack was a survivor of
a war but not world war two, Uncle Jack was very secretive towards Murray
and was often very depressed. Uncle Jack and his sister, (Murray's mother)
were always hiding something from Murray, they always found a way to dodge

with a man she didn't even love, Sid Archer, just to get away. "Sometimes, I
feel like I'm trapped, and I feel I just have to get away." –Ada. This showing
that family secrets can cause trouble and confusion.
In "Break of day" Palmer's contention of death is that everyone dies
eventually. In the book "Break of day" there are many death incidents where
death occurs, for example Murray's father died in a fire while trying to save the
horses, at the time he was on crutches, so could not make it back inside, "they
found dad by the stables, when the fire approached he must have gone
outside again...he couldn't stand the idea of the horses being burnt." –Murray.
Murray was surrounded by death, death of his father, death of some of the
soldiers he was fighting with in the war, as well as his Uncle Jack. As shown in
paragraph two Uncle Jack fought in a war many years back, but the secret that
he had been hiding was the cancer that a gas from the war had given

"(500) Days of Summer " Gender Analysis (500)" Days of Summer" (2009) is a creative approach to
the romantic comedy genre. An unidentified male narrator warns us early on that "This is a story of
boy meets girl. This is not a love story." The film is a story about love while it may or may not end
the way we expect, it's a more real, complicated, and a believable love story then any number of
romantic comedies that we been exposed to. Most movies usually tell us that true love is possible
with whomever we choose if only we want it enough. "Hollywood" likes to distort reality and put
most romantic entanglements into a happy ending with a cute bow on it, this movie brings us back

In fact, it is told through its main protagonist Tom's (Joseph Gordon–Levitt) perspective. The boy,
Tom Hansen of Margate, New Jersey grew up believing that he'd never truly be happy until the day
he met "the one." His belief originated from early exposure to sad British pop music and a total
misinterpretation of the movie The Graduate. The girl, Summer Finn (Zooey Deschanel) of
Shinnecock, Michigan did not share this belief since the collapse of her parents' marriage. In
referring to the main title the five hundred days is about how long Tom's life is spent with a girl
named Summer. This movie doesn't play out chronologically, but instead jumps back and forth
through time using flash back (Giannetti & Leach 2008, p.48). In depicting the relationships
struggles faced by Tom , (500) Days of Summer addresses the main theme dealing with those small
but significant moments between two people and taking a risk at love when uncertainty remains.
Moments that can make someone wonder if the other person was feeling the same thing or if it was
only an illusion. This is a different kind of love story but, not told in a conventional way about how

Binge Drinking In Canada
Alcohol and heavy drinking throughout Canada plays a distinctive role in instigating other key
addictions. Drinking and consumption abuse can be linked strongly to the abuse of illicit drugs.
Binge drinking should be seen as a gateway or portal to the development of poly–drug users. As the
gateway drug theory suggests, routine use of less harmful drugs, in this case alcohol, will lead to
risk of abusing more serious drugs. Alcohol is so readily available and like any other psychoactive
drug it can be very addictive. More than 600,000 Canadians are dependent on alcohol, and nearly
200,000, on illicit drugs. Alcohol consumption needs to be portrayed as a more dangerous activity.
The possible risk factors in alcohol consumption can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By establishing the patterns of heavy drinking we can then begin to see correlations with other sorts
of rebellious behavior and risky activity.
Binge drinking has been identified as a gateway to other illicit drugs. There is a strong link between
alcohol consumption and the gateway drug theory. The gateway drug theory suggests that the
routine use of less harmful drugs or substances may lead to a future risk of abusing more serious
hard drugs. It has been found that alcohol precedes the use of cannabis as well as other drugs.
Alcohol is the starting point in a vicious cycle. Cigarette and alcohol use is associated with the
likelihood of marijuana use; marijuana use is in turn associated with the likelihood of other drug
use. A study of a British Columbian sample group showed "43% of the sample reporting
simultaneous use of both alcohol and marijuana on the previous weekend and 14% reporting
simultaneous use of alcohol and cocaine" (Stockwell et al, 2007). Alcohol and drinking is observed
as a fairly low risk activity among students; however, with the possible relationship to hard drugs,
alcohol should be viewed more cautiously. It is becoming increasingly rare for those who use hard
drugs to not have used alcohol or cannabis first. It seems that universities and youth culture are
breeding alcoholics. Our culture is so focused on partying with a constant competition of who can

Analysis Of Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell

The 10,000 Hour Rule Exposed
In Malcolm Gladwell's book Outliers, he says the pillars of success are hard work, location, and
opportunity. Gladwell defines hard work as his 10,000 hour rule. I think his 10,000 hour rule has
flaws. I found others that also argue about the 10,000 hour rule. Although Malcolm Gladwell's
formula offers many examples of successful people who put in 10,000 hours of hard work, he
eliminates child prodigies or other people who are successful and quick to learn in under 10,000
hours.
In the second chapter of Outliers entitled "The 10,000 Hour Rule," Gladwell emphasizes this
particular amount of time when determining the difference between professionals and amateurs. The
way that Gladwell presents this information is that he provides his readers with stories of The
Beatles, Bill Gates, and Bill Joy in their journeys toward wealth and fame. When describing The
Beatles' early days Gladwell mentions their amount of performances in Hamburg. "The Beatles
ended up traveling to Hamburg five times between 1960 and the end of 1962. On the first trip, they
played 106 nights, five or more hours a night... All told, they performed for 270 nights in just over a
year and a half." (Gladwell, Outliers, pages 49–50) It makes sense that extended hours of practice
leads to higher efficiency in any area of skill, but Gladwell's main argument is that the opportunity
to perform such long shows for several nights during the week is what provided The Beatles the
possibility of becoming a talented band and thus very successful in their musical career.
In Business Insider, Drake Baer argues that the 10,000 hours is useless and believes that it has no
impact on the audiences' approval of a rock band. Baer writes about Frans Johansson's study:
In it, Johansson argues that deliberate practice is only a predictor of success in fields that have super
stable structures. For example, in tennis, chess, and classical music, the rules never change so you
can study up to become the best. But in less stable fields, like entrepreneurship and rock and roll,
rules can go out the window: ...there's a band like the Sex Pistols, who took

In sound, clearly the two genres are complete opposites. In many ways, however, they do share
similarities. On a basic level, punk and rap both come from the streets. A common theme in rap is
the displeasure artists have with essentially the way the world is run, similar to the ideology punk
originated from. Rappers often vocalize their negative opinions toward a variety of social issues. A
prime example is the 1990s rap group N.W.A. A line from one of their biggest hits "F*** tha Police"
declares, "police think they have the authority to kill a minority". The group then goes on to depict
their encounter with law enforcement in which the cops nearly cross the line into police brutality.
Similarly, punk pioneers the Clash wrote a song in which singer Joe Strummer states "You have the
right not to be killed / Murder is a crime / Unless it was done by a / Policeman or aristocrat". This is
a blatant call out statement criticizing police brutality. These two songs share a nearly identical
message, which is a surprisingly common occurrence between rap and punk

Comparing The Infamy And Controversy Of The Sex Pistols
The Infamy and Controversy of The Sex Pistols Although the infamous band, The Sex Pistols, only
lasted 26 months and one album, they had no shortage of controversy. The Sex Pistols were, and still
are today, the definition of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. It did not take long for The Sex Pistols to
stir controversy in the media. From the beginning of their existence, the media portrayed them as
no–good punk anarchists. As documented in the film, The Filth and The Fury by Julien Temple, it is
clear why 1970's conservative Britain would have an issue with the band. For the first time, a group
ignored the typical "professionalism" that was expected from the music industry (Simonelli 122)

Punks used shock value for attention. For example, although the band has never made racist
comments or lyrics, bassist Sid Vicious was often spotted wearing swastikas. (Gildart 134–135).
Their fashion choices gave everyone another reason to talk about them. The media was putting
money in their pockets and helping them get their message across. The band members also got a
kick out of the anti–punk headlines, no doubt. In some ways, the media was correct. The band
encouraged violence at their shows, Sid Vicious was even known to cut himself on stage (Simonelli
134). However, the extent that people would go to prevent The Sex Pistols from 'corrupting' the
youth of Britain was a bit ridiculous. Parents protested outside venues, saying they would do
whatever it takes to keep The Sex Pistols from playing, including "using violence if necessary"
(Gildart 136–137). Due to the protests and uproar that was caused, the band only ended up playing 5
out of the scheduled 27 shows on their Anarchy tour. (Gildart 130). What the public did not
understand is that the people who chose to go to these shows knew what they were getting into,

The Raft of the Medusa and the Roots of Romanticism
The transition from Neoclassicism to Romanticism arose from a desire for freedom of thought.
Romantics truly believed that the pathway to freedom was through imagination rather than logic and
functioned based on emotion rather than on cognition. The Romantic Movement recognized passion
and sentiment as genuine sources of aesthetic experience, and placed a new emphasis on sensations
such as apprehension, awe, horror and the sublimity of untamed nature. Théodore Géricault, who is
most famously known for The Raft of the Medusa, was a prominent French painter and one of the
most influential pioneers of the Romantic Movement. In The Raft of the Medusa, Géricault, unlike
most artists during this stylistic time period, rejected the Neoclassical ... Show more content on

In addition, because Géricault studied the human anatomy very closely throughout his lifetime, he
was able to outline the passengers' bodies in The Raft of the Medusa with intricacy. Ultimately,
Géricault was able to configure the passengers' precise muscle definitions and skin tones through his
meticulous use of oil, pigment, chalk, varnish and wax ("Géricault's Expenses" 638). In addition, the
dimensionality and accurate portioning of the humans' bodies enhances the scene's intensity. This
Romantic appreciation for histrionics and naturalism greatly differs from the ideals supported during
the Neoclassical Period. The Neoclassical Period renewed an admiration for the classical antiquity,
which incorporated the subjects of ancient art. For example, in comparison to Angelica Kauffman's
Mother of the Gracchi, the skin definition and tone differences are evident. In Kauffman's piece, the
characters display unnaturally smooth and relatively undefined complexions. However, in The Raft
of the Medusa, the characters exhibit defined, and properly positioned and configured bodies in
relation to another. Thus, Géricault's appreciation of human anatomy and configuration creates a
naturalistic and lifelike scene within the painting. In The Raft of the Medusa, the most crucial aspect
in relation to Romanticism is the incorporation of intense emotion as an authentic source of

Essay about Sex Pistols and Censorship
Sex Pistols and Censorship
Punks have always been known for pushing the envelope, but the Sex Pistols pushed it farther than
anyone to date in the genre of punk music. The Sex Pistols boisterous lyrics and edgy appearance
led for them to be heavily censored by the radio and print media and even banned in many places,
Britain and abroad.
They were like nothing seen or heard before. Their torn clothes and spiked hair sent a visual
message that they did not care what others thought. The band was actually put together by Malcolm
McLaren, who used the band as an advertisement for his fetish clothing store. Their chains, tight
leather, and torn clothes have since been associated with punk.

After being dropped by E.M.I. for their "disgraceful.... agressive...behavior," the band quickly

worried about the band's message. The only label that would sign them was the hippie label Virgin.
The Pistols released the single "God Save the Queen" under Virgin in May of 1977, only to have it

their customers tickets were on sale. This contrasts with today where the Wild can target their
message to their social media followers and allow their fans further distribute their message. Today,
a team is a media organization in itself and does not always need to rely on local newspaper and

Despite various ethical problems arise, the Government has put its society interest, the value of
society economy, to the highest priority.
According to the Census and Statistics department, the cross–border marriage between HK men and
mainland women was several times of increase since 2001 to 2006 . Although no direct relationship,
but it is likely that the cross–border birth is in a trend of increase, too. Sadly that the Government
has ignored these families. First of all, as in the mainland maternity case in the Court mentioned
above, the HK father has to pay non–local fee for his wife's obstetric services in a HK public
hospital, and then the right of abode of his babies will be deprived under the recent rule enforced.
The justice issue is not only a comparison among these families and those "purely HK parents", but
also appear on those HK mothers and non–local fathers, who are not under the exclusion blanket of
obstetric services, too. So both are "mixed families" but why the latter families enjoy the right while
the former are deprived?
If Ethics defines what is good for individual and society, and being justice is the concept of moral
rightness of an individual , then it is unethical to be injustice and depriving one's rights. In this case,
the HK Government is applying tighter rules on mainland mothers , at the same time restricting
those cross–border families and also ignoring the justice in

Theda Bara, Mortica Addams
Throughout modern history there have been certain characters that personify the very essence of
Goth, for instance Theda Bara [1885–1995], Mortica Addams in the 1960s TV series The Addams
Family, Italian heiress Marchesa Luisa Casati [1881–1957], to more recent iconic Goths like Helena
Bonham Carter and maverick dresser Daphne McGuinness, which has helped inspire individuals
and the movement, to create their own persona and sense of the gothic style. The Goth subculture
can be broadly divided into various subsets which have there own unique characteristics for instance
Cyber Goth, Gothic Lolita and Fetish Goth. In the early days of the movement in the 1980s and
1990s, the Goth subculture fashion drawing heavily on the early fetish, bondage and S&M style for
example straps, buckles, zips, waistcoats, frock coats, corsets, gowns, thigh–high stiletto boots and
hairstyles like backcombing and the Deathawk, take some influence from the punk movement. Ian
Astbury 1997 describes the early fashion characteristics for the beginning of the Goth culture in the
eighties and nineties; "For the male ... black spiky hair and a black leather jacket. For the women ...
black fishnets, black leather thigh high boots ... dark makeup and the big black spiky hair" (History
of Goth:2016). The traditional materials for the Gothic style includes lace, brocade, leather, velvet,
however modern Goths within the various subsets have created new materials such as rubber and
PVC to create their own version of the aesthetics. It could be said Gothic punks like Siouxsie Sioux,
Joy Dividson, Peter Murphy, Sid Vicious and bands from the eighties and nineties ... Show more

Analysis Of Close Reading Of Resume By Dorothy Parker
Close Reading of Resume by Dorothy Parker
1"Journalist, writer, and poet Dorothy Rothschild was born on August 22, 1893, in West End, New
Jersey. Dorothy Parker was a legendary literary figure, known for her biting wit. She worked on
such magazines as Vogue and Vanity Fair during the late 1910s. Parker went on to work as a book
reviewer for The New Yorker in the 1920s. A selection of her reviews for this magazine was
published in 1970 as Constant Reader, the title of her column. She remained a contributor to The
New Yorker for many years; the magazine also published a number of her short stories. One of her
most popular stories, "Big Blonde," won the O. Henry Award in 1929. In addition to her writing,
Dorothy Parker was a noted member of the New York literary scene in 1920s. She formed a group
called the Algonquin Round Table with writer Robert Benchley and playwright Robert Sherwood.
This artistic crowd also included such members as The New Yorker founder Harold Ross, comedian
Harpo Marx, and playwright Edna Ferber among others. The group took its name from its hangout–
the Algonquin Hotel, but also known as the Vicious Circle for the number of cutting remarks made
by its members and their habit of engaging in sharp–tongued banter. During the 1930s and 1940s,
Dorothy Parker spent much of her time in Hollywood, California. She wrote screenplays with her
second husband Alan Campbell, including the 1937 adaptation of A Star Is Born and the 1942 Alfred
Hitchcock film Saboteur.

Unexpected Infant Death
Sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) is defined as deaths in infants less than one year of age
which occur suddenly and unexpectedly, and whose causes of death are not immediately obvious
prior to investigation. (Centre for Disease Prevention and Control {CDC}, 2016)
SUID is classified into three types: Sudden infant death syndrome(SID) which is sudden,
unexplained death of an infant less than one year, which remains unexplained after a thorough
investigation, complete autopsy, examination of the death scene and review of the clinical history;
Accidental suffocation and strangulation in bed(ASSB) which can occur through suffocation by
beddings, overlay, wedging or strangulation; and Unknown causes whose causes remain
undetermined due to non ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
SUID rate is also found to be higher for infants of mothers who smoke during and after pregnancy.
In a study to identify maternal and infant characteristic associated with ASSB in US infants using
2000–2002 US linked infant birth and death certificate cohort files, maternal factors identified
include younger age, multi–parity, smoking during pregnancy, and lower educational attainment.
Also non Hispanic blacks(NHB) and American Indian were more likely to have ASSB deaths
(Carlberg, Shapiro–Mendoza, & Goodman, 2012), they were also found to have increased rate of
practicing bed sharing and prone sleeping (Broussard, Sappenfield, & Goodman, 2012).
The peak incidence for SIDS death occurs when the infant is 2 to 4 months of age and it has been
found to be more common in males and in preterm infants (Carlberg et al., 2012). Protective factors
identified include breast feeding, immunizations and use of pacifiers (Alm, Wennergren, Möllborg,
& Lagercrantz, 2016; Jones, 2012). Role of Social determinants and discrimination/ Racial and

Virtuoso Teams, Creativity and Trust
Creativity and trust are important and beneficial factors for increasing workplace performance. In
two case studies, Sid Caesar and Miles Davis virtuoso teams have common themes, such as
generating creativity, focusing on trust, and intense time pressures. Virtuoso teams represent a
dominate approach to getting work done in a business environment. Creativity enables virtuoso
teams to solve problems and leverage opportunities through the integration of divergent thoughts
and perspectives.
Virtuoso Teams Common Themes
In nearly any area of human achievement business, sports, and politics you will find teams that
produce outstanding and innovative results. Sid Caesar's virtuoso team pulled off the unthinkable by

Davis was never content with the status quo; he demanded change and made it happen. To Davis
team success meant being a tough leader. If you are a weak leader you will have a weak group.
Self–awareness for Davis somehow connected him to being an effective leader. Self–awareness is
related to the notion of self evaluation. If you know yourself, then self evaluation is likely to be
more accurate (Tekleab, Sims, Yun, Tesluk, & Cox, 2008). The effects of leader self–awareness on
follower self–leadership are more salient or direct in regard to empowering. Davis empowered his
teams by challenging their talent to a higher level of performance.
Four Cs Model and the DeepDive Concept
The Four Cs are determinants of high–performing teams: context, composition, competencies, and
change management skills (Dyer, Dyer, & Dyer, 2006). Visioning and directing was necessary
contexts for Caesar and Davis to build virtuoso teams. Both leaders with a vision and the ability to
direct virtuoso teams produced sustainable results that lasted longer than usual in the entertainment
and music business. In an effective team, each member must understand the context of the team's
work to the greatest degree possible. That includes understanding the relevance of his or her job and
how it impacts the effectiveness of others and the overall team effort. It was evident in Caesar and
Miles virtuoso teams that everyone including leadership

Satire In Blessed Are The Poor, By Mark Twain

  • 1. Satire In Blessed Are The Poor, By Mark Twain Mark Twain's writing gives the impression that he follows an unexplored and uncharted path. While writing for newspapers, he exposed himself as an inventor and he actually patented three inventions. While he visited places to deliver his lectures he was celebrated for his fine and exceptional sense of humour. At times his speeches and writings bear the mark of satire about the mentality and behaviour of people in the United States of America. Satire is a tool for making remarks about absurdities of the society is a casual and mocking way. Mark Twain is known for several distinct stylistic traits. His writings are noted for its outstanding and recurrent use of dialect. Dialect is the distinct mode that a group of people from a confined region ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He thinks the Sunday schools curb the liberty of little boys and girls. According to him religion should not be taught with a compelling attitude. Mark Twain mocks at the typical and monotonous church activities which make children to feel bored. He speaks about the minister who "turn[s] himself into a bulletin–board"(49) by reading long and tiresome lists of a variety of meetings, the "little German boy"(49) who delivers Biblical verses without a pause and then undergoes a nervous breakdown, or the people, and people like Mr. Walters and Judge Thatcher pretend to be sincere and dedicated. Tom Sawyer also does the same thing and Mark Twain thinks that Sundays should be meant to be spent according to the taste of the individuals and not according to the order of others. In such a case even religious sentiments vanishes off and the faith in God gets minimized. When the church service is disturbed by dogs Tom Sawyer thinks, "Tom Sawyer went home quite cheerful, thinking to himself that there was some satisfaction about divine service when there was a bit of variety in it" ... • 3. The 1970s: The Economic Crisis Of The 1970s There are certain times of crisis that occur in every country and in every society and when the United Kingdom was struck by an economic crisis during the 1970s, it resulted in a dramatic change in thinking and way of life of a large group of youths, living during that time. In order to understand this issue thoroughly, we need to look on the most important aspects that triggered these changes in society of the United Kingdom in 1970s, most importantly, we need to revise the economic situation of that time, which was one of the most significant triggering mechanisms that changed the way people, mainly youth, approached living. The emergence of the punk subculture is a very interesting phenomenon and thought–provoking time period, which gave ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the United Kingdom was experiencing the economic crisis, the youths started to alienate from the formal society. The high unemployment was a critical factor in forming the punk subculture. There were a lot of angry youths with a lot of free time, who wanted to rebel and break the rules of a seemingly degrading society. The breakage of the rules took place in many aspects, but the most significant ones were definitely music, style of clothing and presenting oneself. Most of the early punks actually did not really know any music theory or how to play an instrument of any kind correctly. This enabled them to create their own rules and a feeling of seemingly orderless music flow which underlined the philosophy of chaos. Another important aspect, which enabled punks to alienate from mainstream society was style of clothing and use of symbols that shocked "normal" people, like Nazi swastikas that were often present of on their t–shirts even though they were anti– Nazi, or religious symbols like crosses, even though they were anti–religion. Essentially, the ultimate punk goal was to destroy every kind of establishment, religion, system and basically everything that can tie a person and behind all this was an urgent need to basically change the world by destroying it. ... Elvis Costello, John Denver, and Kenny Loggins were originally introduced as devices to encourage naps on long car rides. But soon, these melodious tunes became favorites. While studying journalism, I travelled to London on a field trip to enhance my skills. Flung into the massive British Library, I was told to find a story. Yet, despite its countless recourses, the library offered no article ideas. Without a reader's pass, I was denied entry into almost every room. After 30 minutes, I stumbled upon an unrestricted exhibition. Greeted by explicit t–shirts and edgy album covers, I wandered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While often misconstrued, punk's message was one of inclusivity and transformation. In its time, and even today, the Sex Pistols and the Clash were labeled demoralizing. Regardless, punk bands aimed to combat racism, thoughtless taboos, consumerism, and unjust governments. Resulting banned shows and censored songs, however, did not deter these artists. Although I wouldn't call myself an avid fan of the actual music, an appreciation for punk artist's inflammatory philosophy formed within me. Perhaps punk was angry, and it was most certainly offensive, but it did so with a definitive purpose. Punk's true power lied in its ability to inspire a generation to think for themselves. Stereotypes: Black Men are Prono to Violence People from black communities are undoubtedly overrepresented in the forensic mental health system, this anomaly is impacted heavily by the fact that the system seriously disadvantages black people within their remit (Narco, 2007; Department of Health, 2003). African–Caribbean people are more likely to receive coercive forms of care, spend longer in hospital and experience greater rates of transfer to higher security facilities (NIMHE, 2003 cited in Vige, 2005). Concerns about violence are validated, but it would appear that racial biases in perceptions of dangerousness influence the management of black patients (Barnes & Bowl 2001; Spector 2001 cited in Keating & Robertson, 2004). This is borne out by the fact that, in a study comparing black and white patients, despite having lower scores on aggressive behaviour, black patients were perceived as being more dangerous (Bhui 2001 cited in Keating & Robertson, 2004). • 13. The Migration Of The International Nurse Migration The age of globalization has social, economical and political impact in developed and developing countries. The main impact is seen in migration of work forces from one country to another. Like other professionals, many nurses travel elsewhere within or outside the country to pursue better economic, social and political situation. The international nurse migration has become a growing concern globally because of its impact on health care systems in both developing and developed countries. Basically, the pattern of nurse migration is from developing to developed countries, which could be natural or manipulated. Predicted shortages of nurses in developed countries, opportunities for professional development and better wages than their native countries are the major motivating factors of nurse migration. On the other hand, low pay, political instability, lack of resources to work effectively and limited career opportunities are the pushing factors which tends nurses to migrate from developing countries to developed countries. The percentage of foreign educated nurses working in countries like Australia, Canada, United Kingdom and United States represent 5% to 10% of these countries's total nurse workforce. In Newzealand and Switzerland internationally educated nurses represent 27% and 30% respectively. It concludes that foreign educated nurses are contributing significantly in healthcare delivery system in many developed countries and fulfilling the shortage of nurses in ... • 15. Why Nations Fail : Economic Growth And Prosperity Question 1: The central thesis of AR in their book "Why Nations Fail" is that inclusive economic and political institutions drives economic growth and prosperity. Extractive institutions, on the other hand, where the majority work for the benefit of the few impedes and sometimes block economic prosperity. The other part to the theory is that inclusive economic and political institutions are often the outcome of conflict between elites resisting economic growth and political change and those working to put limits and constrains on the economic and political power of existing ruling elites. Inclusive institutions emerge during critical junctures, for example during the Glorious Revolution in England. This happens when circumstances weaken the grip of elites of power and control, their opponents become stronger, and incentives for pluralistic society are created. There many characteristics for inclusive institutions: They allow free press to flourish, respect for property rights, fair and independent judicial system, removes barriers to entry for new businesses, and allow people to make decisions and choices that they like. They also provide public services such as roads, communication and health services that support business and trade. As an Example, AR provide England, USA and Australia as countries with inclusive institutions. The inclusive institutions in England came into existence as a result of conflict with monarchy and the ruling elites that led to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Siddiqi, Irwin, & Hertzmen (2007) define early life as the period from conception until eight years. The prenatal phase will explore the effects of drug use, smoking and alcohol, which is associated with poor health outcomes for the baby. Nutrition and health care access will be considered for both phases. Other factors considered for the postnatal phase are the environment of the child and family dynamics. The effects of health outcomes on education and employment and their relevance to early life will also be contemplated. The immediate and long term affects on health will be considered. For the purpose of this essay the term parents will refer to the persons responsible for the child. These injuries would probably cause the child to experience severe pain and potentially cause permanent disability, disfigurement or death if not treated. It has been indicated that childhood abuse affects mental health and can increase susceptibility to depression, anxiety related disorders, ADHD and suicidal ideation. These issues could affect children throughout their lives and some may not surface until various stages of life (Comijs et al., 2013; Hart, & Rubia, 2012; Norman et al., 2012; Sugaya et al., 2012). As he is sometimes caught up in the fantasy himself, Sancho must be aware of Don Quixote's madness, particularly since he uses it to outwit him. In chapter twenty, Don Quixote declares his courage and fearlessness after hearing the sound of rushing water, to which Sancho claims that he cannot simply go around the noise and unnecessary danger and pleads with him to consider his life and the life of his own beloved wife. However, in Don Quixote, the skepticism of the villagers and various other people he and Sancho met along their journeys were more hostile towards his interpretation of reality and often highly skeptical of his extravagant claims. The villagers and toys responses to Buzz and Don Quixote are a fine representation of reality in two ways, the first being that reality tends to ignore or even humor that which is not real such in the case of Toy Story, and the second being that reality is cruel as shown in Don Quixote as the villagers berate him for going on his chivalrous ... His mother grew deep in debt and she developed a heroin addiction. As he grew up Vicious adopted a punk and rebellious style. He dropped out of high school and became a vocalist for a couple of bands including The Flowers of Romance and The Vicious White Kids. In 1977, the manager of the Sex Pistols, Malcolm McLaren asked Vicious to join the band. Sid Vicious met Nancy Spungen in 1977, he brought her on the Sex Pistols' U.S. tour. During the tour the band broke up after only eight concerts. This was because of their constant drug use and personal conflicts. One of the biggest conflicts was the band's dislike of Spungen. After the band broke up, Sid Vicious went solo with Nancy Spungen as his manager. This did not work out well because the two of them were on drugs most of the time. They took heroin, barbiturates, and a synthetic form of morphine. They lived in the Chelsea Hotel in Manhattan and spent most of their time there. Many of these garage bands were started by kids in their teens who hardly knew how to play simple chords on a guitar or bang away at drums or cymbals in their own garages. The music was often played at a high volume as well. The MC5 epitomized this. The MC5 (Motor City Five) was a high school punk band from Lincoln Park, Michigan. They sang about living in the slums of London for their whole lives. Their guitar, bass and drums were distorted and the vocals were shouted. Although most of their songs were banned from British television and radio, they were still climbing the charts. They thought it might be time to come to America. However, instead of playing the usual punk scenes, such as CBGB's and Maxwell's, they played bars in suburbs and other trashy places far from main cities. The band broke up in 1978. Many bands tried to follow the Sex Pistols' example. The Clash began opening and touring with the Pistols and became a big hit. They also played simple songs 3 with lyrics about the situation they were coming from. They incorporated SKA into their music, which made them unique. Their songs were short and to the point and the people loved it. The development of punk is indeed a reaction to the glam rock of the seventies, but it is also a reaction to the years before it. • 29. Beloved Character Analysis The story "Beloved" is developed around the decision Sethe makes when she returns to slavery and decides to murder her baby with a hacksaw. Her choice of doing such action results in the reincarnation of Beloved later on in the story with unknown intentions. When Sethe kills her child, she feels no remorse towards what she has done, due to her lack of knowledge regarding the terrible act she has committed. Sethe's choice of killing her baby was wrong as it left her mentally suffering, was inhumane, as well led to a series of unfortunate conflicts that the characters face. In Sethe's view, " Not only did she have to live out her years in a house palsied by the baby's fury at having its throat cut, but those ten minutes she spent pressed up against dawn–colored stone studded with star chips, her knees wide open as the grave, were longer than life, more alive, more pulsating than the baby blood that soaked her fingers like oil." This means that Sethe lived with the pain of knowing what she did to her baby and in order to get something written on the baby's grave she had to pursue in a terrible act. This demonstrates that Sethe went through so much emotional and physical pain throughout her life due to her dead baby. Another example of why killing her baby was wrong is, "So Denver took her mother's milk right along with the blood of her sister." Morrisons point is to show that Denver as a child had to experience and be a part of Sethe's terrible blood bath of her own daughter. This is important because no one likes the idea of a little kid being involved with something so devastating. The fact she was attached to her own sister's blood is scarring. According to Paul D, "What kind of evil you got in here?" This exemplifies that when Paul D first stepped into 124, he sensed the death and anger within the house coming from Beloved. What is more important, the idea of Paul D having sense the evil within the house when he first walks in shows how strong the dead baby is. The choice of killing the baby left the characters in awful or important situations within the story, especially for Sethe. An example of a conflict Sethe experiences if when she says "They took my milk!" This exemplifies that milk that was for her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Hostility Against the World Trade Organization,... Hostility against the World Trade Organization (WTO), International Monetary Fund (IMF), and World Bank Far from being seen as objective entities, the World Trade Organization (WTO), International Monetary Fund (IMF), and World Bank are often conceptualized as instruments of the developed world. It is alleged that they are used to enforce crippling economic policies upon the developing world. To some extent, it is perhaps inevitable that these international institutions are seen as such. The memory of colonial exploitation in Latin America, Africa, and other developing nations runs deep, and the power dynamic of these institutions relative to the nations they are ostensibly helping often echoes the relationship of the colonizing to the colonized. Another reason for the hostility directed towards these economic entities, however, is the extent to which they are viewed as implementing a 'cookie cutter' policy of neoliberalism that is insensitive to the diverse needs of affected countries. "The WTO, IMF and World Bank have been major counterparts in the creation and management of the modern world economy. Their activities are endorsed by economically dominant governments and corporations who favor neoliberal policies and free– market solutions of debt–based finance and international trade as the route to poverty reduction" (Makwana 2013). • 33. The Effects Of Unauthorized Migration On The United States Vicious Cycle Unauthorized migration in the United States has turned into a "Vicious Cycle" of adverse effects that sustain a system of underdevelopment, reduced productivity, low–wage, and limited rights (Hinojosa, 2015). This is the reality of many migrants that leave their country of origin in search of economic mobility. The push factors that influence people's decision to migrate are primarily economic and security. Poverty, lack of employment, opportunities, and economic mobility along with high rates of violence and crime drive people out of their home countries which tend to be in the Global South and into the Global North where developed nations like the United States have pull factors that attract the excessive labor from developing nations. Demand for low–skilled labor, higher paying wages, social and political stability, quality education, and greater wealth are some of the many qualities that make advanced nations the preferred destination. The "Vicious Cycle" begins with the push factors that cause people to migrate out (Hinojosa, 2015). Lack of opportunities take people across treacherous borders in the hopes of reaching their destination, a country like the United States in which they find a decent paying job that allows them to sustain themselves and their loved ones back home (Hinojosa, 2015. From the feminist movement in 1848, to the modernist movement and the jazz age in the twentieth century, Dorothy Parker made a long lasting impact, and was also an inspiration to both movements. This bluntness and wit, was what truly brought her fame. In Dorothy Parker's poem "The Last Question" she presents a theme of anxiety, as well as female passivity. In the first of her two stanza poem, Dorothy Parker presents the reader with her anxiety of where her newfound love will lead her. She questions where it will take her, as though in fear of it dragging her to a dark place to be abandoned, where she won't be able to escape. "The key terms in the second line are "'narrow"' and '"crooked."' (Poetry for students, 131). These words in the second line are an example of Dorothy's wit, for both words have a double meaning. Crooked has synonyms of devious, dishonest, or deceitful, which if compared with her anxiety shows that she fears her new lover, or the respondent in the poem, not being trustworthy or honest, leading her down a path built on lies and distrust that only narrows in on her. In the third and fourth lines, Parker questions how this newfound love will quench her thirsts, most likely for love and an adventure. "The speaker [Dorothy Parker] asks how her new love will '"slake"' and '"feed"' her... Metaphorically though, the poet is talking about the satisfaction of other desires... one possibility is that these are sexual desires." ("The Last Question" 132). The boy, Tom Hansen of Margate, New Jersey grew up believing that he'd never truly be happy until the day he met "the one." His belief originated from early exposure to sad British pop music and a total misinterpretation of the movie The Graduate. By establishing the patterns of heavy drinking we can then begin to see correlations with other sorts of rebellious behavior and risky activity. Binge drinking has been identified as a gateway to other illicit drugs. There is a strong link between alcohol consumption and the gateway drug theory. The gateway drug theory suggests that the routine use of less harmful drugs or substances may lead to a future risk of abusing more serious hard drugs. It has been found that alcohol precedes the use of cannabis as well as other drugs. Alcohol is the starting point in a vicious cycle. Cigarette and alcohol use is associated with the likelihood of marijuana use; marijuana use is in turn associated with the likelihood of other drug use. A study of a British Columbian sample group showed "43% of the sample reporting simultaneous use of both alcohol and marijuana on the previous weekend and 14% reporting simultaneous use of alcohol and cocaine" (Stockwell et al, 2007). Alcohol and drinking is observed as a fairly low risk activity among students; however, with the possible relationship to hard drugs, alcohol should be viewed more cautiously. • 54. Analysis Of Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell Edgar Joshua Aguiar Mary Foster AP English Language and Composition 16 August 2017 The 10,000 Hour Rule Exposed In Malcolm Gladwell's book Outliers, he says the pillars of success are hard work, location, and opportunity. Gladwell defines hard work as his 10,000 hour rule. I think his 10,000 hour rule has flaws. I found others that also argue about the 10,000 hour rule. Although Malcolm Gladwell's formula offers many examples of successful people who put in 10,000 hours of hard work, he eliminates child prodigies or other people who are successful and quick to learn in under 10,000 hours. In the second chapter of Outliers entitled "The 10,000 Hour Rule," Gladwell emphasizes this particular amount of time when determining the difference between professionals and amateurs. The way that Gladwell presents this information is that he provides his readers with stories of The Beatles, Bill Gates, and Bill Joy in their journeys toward wealth and fame. When describing The Beatles' early days Gladwell mentions their amount of performances in Hamburg. "The Beatles ended up traveling to Hamburg five times between 1960 and the end of 1962. On the first trip, they played 106 nights, five or more hours a night... All told, they performed for 270 nights in just over a year and a half." (Gladwell, Outliers, pages 49–50) It makes sense that extended hours of practice leads to higher efficiency in any area of skill, but Gladwell's main argument is that the opportunity to perform such long shows for several nights during the week is what provided The Beatles the possibility of becoming a talented band and thus very successful in their musical career. In Business Insider, Drake Baer argues that the 10,000 hours is useless and believes that it has no impact on the audiences' approval of a rock band. Baer writes about Frans Johansson's study: In it, Johansson argues that deliberate practice is only a predictor of success in fields that have super stable structures. For example, in tennis, chess, and classical music, the rules never change so you can study up to become the best. But in less stable fields, like entrepreneurship and rock and roll, rules can go out the window: ...there's a band like the Sex Pistols, who took ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Those who were part of the counterculture had liberal views and were looking for a form of expression that represented how they felt. Simultaneously, the United Kingdom was also in hot water. On a basic level, punk and rap both come from the streets. A common theme in rap is the displeasure artists have with essentially the way the world is run, similar to the ideology punk originated from. Rappers often vocalize their negative opinions toward a variety of social issues. A prime example is the 1990s rap group N.W.A. A line from one of their biggest hits "F*** tha Police" declares, "police think they have the authority to kill a minority". The group then goes on to depict their encounter with law enforcement in which the cops nearly cross the line into police brutality. Similarly, punk pioneers the Clash wrote a song in which singer Joe Strummer states "You have the right not to be killed / Murder is a crime / Unless it was done by a / Policeman or aristocrat". The Sex Pistols were, and still are today, the definition of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. It did not take long for The Sex Pistols to stir controversy in the media. From the beginning of their existence, the media portrayed them as no–good punk anarchists. As documented in the film, The Filth and The Fury by Julien Temple, it is clear why 1970's conservative Britain would have an issue with the band. The band members also got a kick out of the anti–punk headlines, no doubt. In some ways, the media was correct. The band encouraged violence at their shows, Sid Vicious was even known to cut himself on stage (Simonelli 134). • 60. The Raft of the Medusa and the Roots of Romanticism The transition from Neoclassicism to Romanticism arose from a desire for freedom of thought. Romantics truly believed that the pathway to freedom was through imagination rather than logic and functioned based on emotion rather than on cognition. The Romantic Movement recognized passion and sentiment as genuine sources of aesthetic experience, and placed a new emphasis on sensations such as apprehension, awe, horror and the sublimity of untamed nature. Théodore Géricault, who is most famously known for The Raft of the Medusa, was a prominent French painter and one of the most influential pioneers of the Romantic Movement. In addition, because Géricault studied the human anatomy very closely throughout his lifetime, he was able to outline the passengers' bodies in The Raft of the Medusa with intricacy. Ultimately, Géricault was able to configure the passengers' precise muscle definitions and skin tones through his meticulous use of oil, pigment, chalk, varnish and wax ("Géricault's Expenses" 638). In addition, the dimensionality and accurate portioning of the humans' bodies enhances the scene's intensity. This Romantic appreciation for histrionics and naturalism greatly differs from the ideals supported during the Neoclassical Period. The Neoclassical Period renewed an admiration for the classical antiquity, which incorporated the subjects of ancient art. For example, in comparison to Angelica Kauffman's Mother of the Gracchi, the skin definition and tone differences are evident. In Kauffman's piece, the characters display unnaturally smooth and relatively undefined complexions. However, in The Raft of the Medusa, the characters exhibit defined, and properly positioned and configured bodies in relation to another. Thus, Géricault's appreciation of human anatomy and configuration creates a naturalistic and lifelike scene within the painting. In The Raft of the Medusa, the most crucial aspect in relation to Romanticism is the incorporation of intense emotion as an authentic source of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although no direct relationship, but it is likely that the cross–border birth is in a trend of increase, too. Sadly that the Government has ignored these families.
