A compact unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) should be capable to travel through rough terrain while
traversing within confined spaces. In many applications, it is practically expedient that the vehicles
used must be economical, so that multiple rovers may be deployed to accomplish a given mission.
The cost of the UGV can be reduced by minimizing its size and mechanical intricacy. As in a

The standard treaded platform consists of two fixed tread mechanisms mounted on opposite sides of
a central chassis. This type of UGV performs well over a variety of both smooth and complex
terrains (including dirt, gravel, sand, snow, etc.), but the limitation persist as before. This limitation
may be extended by adding additional sprocket–chain mechanism to increase the height of system
(such as the trapezoidal shape), or by adding secondary articulated treaded segments or "flippers".
Additional treaded segments may be added to increase a treaded vehicle's adroitness, but the cost
gets increased. Here a compact treaded UGV, which is capable of overcoming obstacles roundly as
high as its treads are long via a unique mechanical architecture and adept implementation of
feedback control algorithms is shown. The overall height or the rover can be adjusted and made as
per the requirement. Here LQR controller along with LQT is used. Finally, the transformation to
different modes of operation are shown in simulation part.
