North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic
I grew up in a small, rural town in Potts Camp, Mississippi, which is about forty–five minutes from
Oxford, Mississippi. Around 2005 my family and I moved away, and during this time The North
Mississippi Hill Country Picnic was evolving. Kenny Brown a resident from Potts Camp,
Mississippi created the idea of having a picnic to educate, remember, and appreciate their local blues
artists, such as R. L. Burnside. The picnic is held in Waterford, Mississippi and lasts for two days.
Some of the local venders offer barbeque and catfish plates, along with a slice of watermelon,
denoted by the local boy scouts. The festival attracts many travelers to Marshall County, Sara stated,

From a young boy he played the blues and was mentored by one of the successful blues man from
Mississippi. Kenny wanted to remember the late blues musicians from Mississippi by hosting a
festival each year for his community and other travelers from around the world. Many feel that
while attending the picnic that it is just a time for fun, good music, food and celebration. However,
Jeremy Martin (2014) stated, "You are part of a special moment, and, when the sun goes down and
the day's heat breaks, when grandparents hobble up the stage to guest with their grandchildren you
realize that this is far better, far bigger, than any festival you'd ever heard of before". The picnic is a
time of remembrance and to educate the younger generation of their local blues culture, for many it

Persuasive Essay On A First Date
When you meet someone new, it's really exciting. The feelings of love and euphoria are high and
this makes you feel good. Sharing your life with another person is an exciting experience. It's even
more exciting when you're compatible with this person. In order to figure out if you're compatible
with a potential partner, the dating period is necessary. Dating allows you to learn the quirks, likes
and dislikes of another person. You'll also learn whether or not you like spending quality time with
them. The typical first date for many couples involves dinner and movie. However, the dinner and
movie idea isn't always the best way to get to know each other. Sure, you can have conversation
over dinner, but when the movie is rolling, you both are ingrained in the movie screen. That's
potentially more than two hours engrossed in something else other than each other. There are tons of
memorable ways to enjoy and get to know one another on a first date that don't involve watching the
big screen.

Check out the local paper to find out when and where there will be live outdoor music. Coordinate

fancy restaurant to make a big impression. However, it's the detail and thoughtfulness that makes the
most impact. Some of the most beautiful relationships are born underneath the stars on a picnic
blanket. Even if you don't know how to cook, stop a local sub shop or grocery store. All you need to
do is fill up your picnic basket with some snacks, drinks and sandwiches. Throw in a few utensils,
napkins and a comfy blanket to sit on. You and your date can enjoy an evening enjoying
conversation and live music in the warm weather. This is an incredibly memorable and romantic

The Show ' Fice, Jim Halpert And Pam Beesly Start Out
In the show The Office, Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly start out as two people who work together and
develop a crush on each other. Despite that, they were never able to tell each other how they felt
until later in the show. Pam was already engaged, and Jim did not want to mess that up for her
although he still wanted to be with Pam. Finally, at the end of season 2 Jim tells Pam how he feels
about her and the season ends with Jim and Pam kissing. Pam's engagement with her Fiancé Roy
falls apart fortunately because of the toxicity of he put into the relationship. Skipping ahead a few
seasons, Jim and Pam start dating and soon enough they get engaged. At the end of season 5 Pam
finds out she is pregnant and Jim is going to be a dad. They end up getting married in Niagara Falls
and the audience feels so happy for this "fairy tale" couple and that their love finally overcame the
struggles of their daily lives. However, conflict found its way into their relationship early and caused
a great amount of conflict within their new family. Many of these problems can be seen through the
lack of function being served throughout the family and certain roles not being played. During the
wedding there is conflict between Pam's grandmother Mema and Pam because the secret that was
supposed to be kept about Pam being pregnant is spilled by Jim while he was giving a toast. Mema
played the role of the "old fashioned" grandmother whose function in the family is keeping her it

Sexual Harassment In Donna Ned's The Office
Sexual harassment continues to be a substantial problem within the workplace and around the world.
Donna Benson, an American author, writes in "Sexual Harassment on a University
Campus: The Confluence of Authority Relations, Sexual Interest and Gender Stratification" that
"Female workers have always been vulnerable to sexual abuse by male employees... In non–random
surveys as many as 70 percent of respondents report harassment on the job" (236). This is an
unfortunate statistic, and through comedy, the television series The Office (U.S.), created by NBC,
and directed by Benjamin Novak reveals the reality of this unfortunate statistic and how
inappropriate harassment is. The Office (U.S.) is a comedy based around Dunder Mifflin Paper
company's Scranton branch manager, Michael Scott. Michael is a comedic and belligerent character
who is unaware of his socially distasteful humor, which shows the audience how unacceptable
sexual harassment is. Through the use of comedy, the producers of The Office reveal to its audience
how sexual harassment is unacceptable. In the episode titled, "Sexual Harassment" in season two of
The Office (U.S.), Michael Scott negatively depicts males due to his inappropriate sexual
harassment. In addition, the way his female employees react to his harassment parallels with another
woman's strategy to combat sexual harassment. Lastly, the producers used comedy to bring
awareness to one of the problems that particular society is dealing with, which

Picnic Critique
At Prospect Theater in Modesto, California on the Sunday afternoon of September 18, 2016, the
play "Picnic" was presented. This play was depicted on Labor Day in the 1950's, and it
demonstrated to the audience how the apple does not fall far from the tree in mother Flo and
daughter Madge's life decisions. In order to make this evident to the audience, the director Michael
Hewitt capitalized on the stage setting, the sound effects, and costumes. The stage setting played an
integral part in the production of "Picnic". The days were tracked by Nikko Linares playing Bomber
because he delivered the newspaper; this was a seemingly small character that played a large role
because it showed the quick and almost reckless actions of Madge a the end of the play. The quaint
stage's space fully maximized its potential with the use of two homes with porches, a retro–looking
chair and a tree stump inbetween them, and a white picket fence that seemed to connect the two
homes. The homes were both housing only women from very different walks of life. The house
where Becky Bjerke playing Madge resides was facing the audience and away from the train tracks.
The director did this to symbolize how her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The actors and actresses were all wearing clothes that fit them well. The socio–economic status of
each character was depicted of each of their outfits; Alan was dressed the best as he was the most
wealthy. At the beginning of the play, Madge was wearing a red and white dress that almost
resembled a table cloth for a picnic table (this was quite fitting for the Labor Day picnic). Although,
she changed into her new pink gown that her mother had bought for her for another occasion, so
when her mother had her take it off, it symbolized her being done with Alan. From there she
changed into a blue dress that was very plain and cheap looking; this symbolized how she had

What Happens When The Reward Outweigh The Hefty Cost
I. Attention Getter: Have you ever wondered why you decided to keep a job after your boss does
something ruthless or why you would do something you did not want to do in order to keep your
relationship healthy? The scenarios Pam Halpert, Jim Halpert's wife, and Oscar Martinez, the
homosexual accountant, face in the TV show The Office, shows what happens when the reward
outweighs the hefty cost. II. Thesis: Through arrogance and sacrifice, social exchange theory occurs
in business relationships, and personal relationships throughout the film.
Preview: In this presentation, I will define social exchange theory and its role in relationships. I will
then apply this theory to those relationships in the TV show The Office. Finally, I will state why it is
the most important theory when deciding whether or not to pursue or terminate a relationship.
(Transition: Let's first look at the theory and its role in relationships.)
Body
I. According to the about education website, Crossman states "social exchange theory is a model for
interpreting society as a series of interactions between people that are based on estimates of rewards
and punishments." Rewards come in many forms: money, gifts, hugs, romance, social recognition
and so on. Cost or punishments also come in many forms: humiliation, beating, crying, sacrifice,
etc.

Halmoni And The Picnic Summary
Unit Enhancement to Address Diversity
Halmoni and the Picnic Story by Nyul Choi
Halmoni and the Picnic is a story in our unit of study. This is a story that most students enjoy
reading year after every year. My additions to the lesson to the reading lesson are in italics to show
how I could make the lesson more multicultural.
The summary of the Halmoni and the Picnic story: Yunmi is concerned about her grandmother,
Halmoni, who has lately moved from the country of Korea to stay with Yunmi's family in America.
The grandmother is not comfortable in the strange new culture, and she is too shy to converse in

Sometimes I have the girls read a page altogether, at times all the boys read at once, sometimes I
read a page aloud and other times the east or west half of the class. I can see that this takes the
attention of the student who isn't such a good reader and it this strategy does well in my classroom.
There is good comprehension questions listed in my teaching manual that I use. After the execution
of the new joint center standards, I have learned that I should have the students review the story.
This is an issue I plan to add to the lesson. To help understand the story, I tell the students to go
through the pages and attempt to foretell what will happen in the story. I have the students try to
suggest which characters are grandmother Halmoni, Anna Marie, Yunmi, and Helen. As they try to
find these characters, I ask my students whether they think they feel sad or happy. When we have
done reading the story, I feel it is essential to have the students discuss whether their projections
about what the story would be about being right. Then I ask the students what is the problem in the
story and how was it solved. A number of the concepts taught in this story include predicting
outcomes, writing an invitation, using context to figure out unknown words, and irregular verbs. It
would be fun for the students to set apart some time and write their own invitation for that

A Visit to Cades Cove Essay
A Visit to Cades Cove
Having lived in the Blount County area all my life, I have taken many weekend trips with my family
and friends to Cades Cove, a beautiful place situated in The Great Smokey Mountains. Here you can
drive the eleven–mile trail (visiting the homes of people who once resided in Cades Cove), picnic in
the park, and camp out for the weekend. Cades Cove contains a lot of history as well as beautiful
sites.
Located near the Townsend entrance to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, the cove is a
great place to come and relax for a weekend. From ETSU, the trip is only a 2–1/2 hour drive. That
may seem long, but it is well worth the drive, just to escape the hectic college life. Cades Cove is

The springhouse would provide people with water and would also serve as a "refrigerator." From
here, I would drive to the Cable Mill area, which is my favorite. It contains the Mill, the Mill race,
and the Dam. There is a blacksmith shop, a barn, and a sorghum mill as well in this area. It started
out as the home of Gregg Cable in 1879 and later became the home of Becky Cable. The last site is
the Henry Whitehead place. This cabin was made of mill– sawn square logs and has a brick
chimney. An older one sits beside it. Ending your tour around the loop, you will find Sparks Lane, a
two–way road that provides a shortcut back to the campground or an exit from the cove.
Although there is a great deal of history in the park, Cades Cove has a lot of things to offer its
visitors. There is so much to do as far as recreation is concerned. A number of people enjoy fishing,
hiking, horseback riding, backpacking, camping, sightseeing, and taking nature walks. Cades Cove
offers many trails for people who enjoy hiking. Most of these trails lead you to the cabins if you
choose to walk instead of drive. My favorite trail is the one up to Look Rock. Here you can look out
over all the mountains and the city. If you like photography, then it is a good idea to bring your
camera along with an extra role of film so you can take pictures of all the wildlife. I, for example,
have a picture of myself standing next to a deer.

Picnics Essay
An Essay On Picnics
Picnics are a pleasant diversion. They break the monotony of life. They bring into one's daily life a
touch of variety. They carry us away from the world of our daily existence into a world that is
different. They may be said to touch the prose of life with the charm of poetry. The release the
springs of joy held down by the burden of duties and responsibilities. Hence they are often a
refreshing tonic.
Picnics are of various kinds. One may have a picnic with one's family. This is not very common in
Indian households. Here domestic from the dreariness of perpetual domesticity. And yet perhaps it is
likely to be the pleasantest. The relationship between parents and children, between brothers and

The first stage is planning. Often this is the pleasantest. To discuss plans in advance creates
happiness in anticipation. The selection of the place, of the party and of the nature of the outing
gives ample scope for discussion and argument, and makes things lively. But it becomes botheration
if there is too much planning, too much attention to every detail. The joy of a picnic often lies in the
discovery that something has been left behind, something has not been provided for. The ingenuity
of individual members is taxed and to devise ways and means to get over the difficulty adds much to
the relish of this situation. It is no use carrying to a picnic the well–ordered self–sufficiency of the

The Million Year Picnic Essay
While growing up, you might find yourself in a sort of limbo. There is a time when you are between
a child and an adult, between young and grown. This is exactly the case for Timothy, the protagonist
in Bradbury's "The Million Year Picnic" (1946). He senses parts of the adult world that are hidden
from his younger brothers, while retaining a childlike uncertainty and confusion. This paper seeks to
analyze and interpret Timothy's character as well as the short story's narration, setting and themes.
The story unfolds on the planet Mars. It is October in year 2026, yet it is summer on Mars. The
planet is covered in crumbling cities, canals and multicolored deserts. The family visits in the wake
of a great war that eradicated all human and extraterrestrial life there. Because of the barren
atmosphere on Mars, there is a strained feeling in the family. They talk in whispers when walking
through the abandoned cities (p. 179, l. 14). Both parents are also very tense from the beginning of
the trip. The father is trembling when packing the camp (p. 173, l. 5) and the mother is unusually
quiet throughout most of the novel. She seldom comes with any comments or remarks. When
noticing a bird, the father also gets frightened (p. 174, l. 1) and he has a pulse beating in his cheek

possibility that their great–grandchildren will hear them again. This is if Earth becomes peaceful

Representation Of Characterism In Picnic At Hanging Rock...
Joan Lindsay, the renowned author of the distinguished Australian novel Picnic at Hanging Rock,
has foreground the representation of Victorian society as repressed and constrained through the
characterisation of various figures throughout the novel. The riveting tale follows the mysterious
disappearance of three girls and a teacher, with only one girl to ever be seen again, during the
Appleyard College's trip to the mystic Hanging Rock on Valentine's Day in 1900. One of the main
focuses in the book is the depiction of the Victorian Society as uptight and controlled, which has
been developed by various characters, including Miss McCraw, Mrs Appleyard and Mademoiselle.
Miss McCraw, the peculiar mathematics teacher, is one of the least likely to go missing. However
this is exactly what occurs and through this uncharacteristic disappearance a notion is presented that
excessive repression results in extreme methods of release. The characterisation of Mrs Appleyard,
combined with that of Miss McCraw, also develops the readers understanding of Victorian society
and how rigid social constraints will eventually breakdown. In contrast, Mademoiselle, the
passionate arts teacher, juxtaposes the previously mentioned characters by being kind and
affectionate towards the girls. The characterisation of these individuals throughout Picnic at
Hanging Rock contributes to the overall portrayal of Victorian society as uptight and suppressed and
progresses the reader's understanding of this

Weird Melancholy Of Henry Lawson 's ' The Bush Undertaker...
Weird Melancholy in Henry Lawson's 'The Bush Undertaker' and Peter Weir's Picnic at Hanging
Rock
In 1876, in his preface to Adam Lindsay Gordon's Poems, novelist Marcus Clarke coined the phrase
'Weird Melancholy' in reference to what he perceived to be the 'dominant note' of his country's
landscape and his subject's verse. In doing so, he distilled the entire mood of Australian Gothic into
one eerie essence, an essence present, to varying extents, in all texts of that genre. This can be seen
through an examination of two exemplary Australian Gothic texts, each vastly different from the
other in form and content, but united by their pervasive aura of Weirdness and Melancholy: Henry
Lawson's 1894 short story 'The Bush Undertaker' and Peter ... Show more content on

After doing this, a 'great greasy black goanna' (29) causes the hatter the stumble upon the corpse of
his friend, Brummy. In describing the reptile, alliteration serves as emphasis, while the word 'black'
connotes the native Australian whose bones have been disinterred by the protagonist. As he goes
about burying Brummy, the goanna, always accompanied by the epithet 'black', reappears
continually. The man's repeated sightings of the creature link it to something sinister, until it
becomes a symbolic force of justice, frighteningly rebuking the hatter for his profanity of a sacred
site (Lee). The goanna is a metaphor for a divine power, supernatural, fatalistic, and truly Weird.
The idea that human activity is governed by a higher power, resulting in a lack of personal agency, is
also explored in Picnic at Hanging Rock. Even before they arrive at their picnic spot, the convoy
from Appleyard College seem to be greatly affected by Hanging Rock. Mathematics mistress Miss
McCraw seems mesmerised by the monolith, speaking quietly and 'almost nostalgically' (Green 11)
about its creation:
Silicious lava, forced up from deep down below. Soda trachytes extruded in a highly viscous state,
building the steep–sides mametons we see in Hanging Rock. And quite young, geologically
speaking. Barely a millions years old. (Greene, 11)
Vivean Gray's delivery of these lines as though enchanted demonstrates the power of the rock over
the picnickers. Further, her

Picnic By William Inge: Play Analysis
"Picnic" is a three–act play written by William Inge, the author of "Bus Stop" and "Come Back,
Little Sheba." Set in a small town in Kansas, Picnic is about the lives of ordinary Americans. The
play was first performed on Broadway in 1953. Hal, a handsome drifter, arrives in a small Kansas
town looking for work. The town happens to be the home of Hal's old college roommate Alan. Alan
is in a relationship with Madge Owens, the prettiest girl in town. Madge's mother Flo is desperate to
get her married off to Alan and is horrified by the romantic sparks taking place between Madge and
Hal. Madge's younger, bookish, plainer sister Millie is jealous of the attention that Madge gets for
her beauty. The increasing animosity toward Hal softens Madge's heart. She feels both empathy and
desire. When Alan isn't around, Hal steals a kiss from Madge. Then, the two lovebirds have sex. ...

He even throws a punch at his ex–friend, but Hal is too fast and strong, easily defeating the college
boy. Realizing that he must catch the next train and leave town before the cops toss him in jail, Hal

train headed for Tulsa, Madge packs her bags and leaves home for good, planning to meet up with
Hal and begin a new life together. Her mother is shocked and despondent as she watches her
daughter head off into the distance. The wise neighbor Mrs. Potts consoles her. For me, this play is
still relevant. One of the themes of this play is that youth is a precious gift that must be savored
instead of squandered. Throughout the play, the adult characters envy the young. During her tirade
aimed at Hal, Rosemary vehemently declares: "You think just 'cause you're young you can push
people aside and not pay them any mind... But you won't stay young forever, didja ever thinka

I woke up to birds chirping, which is quite odd for me, because I don't really hear them were I live. I
sat up out of bed, and stretched. I walked outside seeing my parents drinking there morning coffee,
and chatting away. I walked back into the RV and made me my coffee to get me started for the day. I
heard snoring, the first thing I thought was my lazy brother. I grabbed my swim wear and changed
into them. I walked back out, and asked my parents if I could go swim. They told me yes, and to be
careful.
I darted off down the hill to the swimming area. I slipped off my flip flops and ran straight into the

Picnic Lightning Poem Tone
The power of Tone Like prisoners inside of a cell, emotions that humans feel are often kept caged
behind steel bars. They cry for freedom but the mind does not set them free. Each of the authors in
all three poems are experiencing a strong emotion, whether it be sorrow or grief, yet do not directly
reveal it, instead they rely on the tone of the poem to establish their hidden emotions and true
feelings. The tone in, "My Mistress' eyes", "Picnic, Lightning" and "For a lamb" best expresses the
author's purpose by emphasizing and highlighting the emotions that are felt by the authors in each
poem. When reading the poem, For a lamb by Richard Eberhart, the immediate impression given off
is that the author is perceiving death as an ugly, dreadful and inevitable event. He describes the act

Throughout the poem, Collins begins expressing his fascination of how abrupt and surprising death
can be. He cites several examples of ridiculous ways to die which gave off a mocking and less
serious tone. However, as he continues to speak about his surroundings his perspective on life seems
to be changing. The trees, flowers and dirt around him were completely unappealing, yet after his
reflection on life and death, he had a greater appreciation for life and stated that " then the soil [was]
full of marvels" when he looked again. (Arp 805). Billy Collins was another poet who, like Richard
Eberhart, enjoyed exploring the themes of life and death and the appreciation of life throughout his
poems. His career began with a length education and career as an english professor, which enhanced
his mastery of the english language. The use of tone in his poems was extremely important because
Collins expected the readers to dissect his poems and find the meaning and his true emotions behind

Australian Film, Gallipoli, Shows the Willpower and Drive...
Gallipoli, as the title suggests, is a portrayal of the historical event in which thousands of Australian
soldiers went off to fight for their country. Peter Weir, the director of Gallipoli has not simply
presented the facts about the war, nor has he tried to relay the story of this time, instead he has
attempted to convey the legend of Gallipoli through the Australian's feelings towards the event using
pre–existing myths to portray this tragedy of war. Gallipoli was directed by Peter Weir, an Australian
film director. After playing the leading role in the Australian New Wave cinema with his films such
as Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Last Wave and Gallipoli, Weir directed a diverse group of American
and International films – many on them major box office hits – including the Academy Award
nominees. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallipoli_(1981_film) ) Gallipoli is a marvellous movie that

Observation Assignment at a Park Essay
Observation Assignment at a Park
Hayden Park was an interesting place for a Freeze–Frame assignment. For those who have not heard
of a Freeze–Frame, it is simply sitting in one spot for 15 to 20 minutes observing ones surroundings.
So to continue, at first glance, Hayden Park is a typical Valley of the Sun type park. Most of these
typical parks have grass, picnic tables, some trees, and usually some sort of sports availability such
as a basketball court or soccer field, or both. In addition, the parks also have pleasant surroundings.
But Hayden Park is located in South Phoenix, so automatically the typical standard for parks is
altered.
The surroundings around Hayden Park are far from what most people would consider to ... Show

There was one peculiar individual, a young Hispanic male, who I observed riding a bicycle in circles
around the only building in the park for approximately ten minutes. Nothing but circles, and then he
rode off down the road. There was another Hispanic male who was pushing a young child on a
swing. After a short time they left the park on foot. The last person I saw during the Freeze–Frame,
besides the ice–cream man who drove by and the trailer park resident who passed through the park
and walked on down the road, was a city worker who was doing routine maintenance in the park;
checking sprinklers, emptying garbage, and doing whatever in the building.
As far as structures go, there was the one small square one–story building with graffiti and the brick
and cement graffiti riddled canopy structures that covered approximately ten picnic tables. Graffiti
was basically everywhere, yet I noticed that the Virgin of Guadalupe, the Saint of Mexico, painted
on the side of the building was untouched. Not even gang sign graffiti was anywhere near it. This in
itself shows respect; which makes me wonder why the youth and various residents of South Phoenix
would disrespect the rest of their neighborhood by polluting it in so many ways. Perhaps it is like
Tricia Rose stated, "graffiti writers...claim turf and gain local status by developing new styles" (1)

August 2026 The Million Year Picnic Summary
In the story "Oct. 2026: The Million Year Picnic" is about a family that flees from the planet Earth in
a rocket to go to mars on what we think is a vacation. We later learn at the end of the story that this
isn't the case, we learn that they are going to Mars so they can escape from the war on Earth. In the
story, Rad Bradbury suggests that they might not just be on a vacation, and he suggests a plot twist
that ends up surprising us readers. The family themselves also learn something in the ending that
they didn't expect.
In the story "Oct. 2026: The Million Year Picnic" the author tricks us all along. He suggests that in
the story the characters shall meet Martians but we see that doesn't happen. We also see that the

I'll show you some Martians, all right," Dad said presently"(2). This quote suggests that the
characters will meet Martians, Martians being people that have lived on Mars there entire lives. The
mother says to the father that the Martians are a dead race, which suggests that maybe the Martians
don't exist and he is referring to something else. Here Rad Bradbury incites that there may be a twist
we don't expect. For example, Rad Bradbury writes, "I've always wanted to see a Martian,' said
Michael. 'Where are they, Dad? You Promised.'
'There they are,' said Dad, and he shifted Michael on his shoulder and pointed straight down. The
Martians were there. Timothy began to shiver. The Martians were there– –in the canal – –reflected
in the water"(7). In this part of the story, we see that the inciting of a plot twist ends up coming true
in the ending, the father didn't mean Martians as in the supposed dead race, but he is referring to
themselves. The word Martian is very broad, it simply means inhabitants of Mars or relating to
mars. So we can see why the father was able to fool the rest of the family. In this story, the
characters learn at the end that the father meant when he talked about meeting Martians he didn't
mean meeting other Martians. They themselves are Martians so we learn he meant that they would
meet themselves as Martians, as inhabitants of Mars. The reason he didn't refer to themselves as
Martians is because he didn't tell them they were going to live

The Sociological Analysis Of Alienation In The Office
"The Office" is a popular comedy show that originated in the UK and ventured into the U.S. It is
popular among mostly millennials but can be cross–generational because of the different cohort
groups that are represented in the show. The run down is that it's a mockumentary about a mediocre
paper company called Dunder Mifflin and the workers that cohabitate within. With Michael Scott
being a kind, lenient yet socially unaware and naive branch manager also having an extremely wide
variety of personalities coexisting in this primary social agent the episodes never fail to entertain.
Exemplifying very simple humor, this show can be argued as mind numbing comedy, however, I

Whether we can supply it to them, whether they can pay for it" ("The Pilot"). He takes a pause to
scoff and finally says "I'm boring myself just talking about this" ("The Pilot"). Jim is experiencing
alienation due to the dull, unrewarding work that he performs at his job.
Another strong sociological concept I pondered upon while watching any episode was gender
biases. Sociologists have studied differences between gender and have come to the conclusion that
men and women tend to make up majority of the jobs on the opposite side of the job spectrum. For
instance, men typically obtain jobs that express power, and decision–making, such as manager, sales
rep, or a doctor. When women mostly occupy jobs that are emotion–driven and require more
emotional labor, such as social workers, nurses, and receptionists. "The Office" reflects this idea
because Pam Beesley is the receptionist and is the first face you see when walking into the office.
Pam has great emotional labor and she shows it throughout the series by smiling at people even
when she has gone through a divorce as well as when her parents were going through a divorce. In
the episode "Dream Team" Pam leaves the office to start her own paper company (Yay for Pam
transcending gender norms in the work force!) which leaves Kevin to fill in as receptionist. From
the get–go Kevin struggles at the job because he lacks the knowledge and social skills to handle the
people who call into the office. This provides further

Describe A Tropical Park
Tropical Park has always been where my heart lies since I was a child. My mother would take me to
the park every Sunday until I was a teenager. At this park we would have a picnic and then go to this
steep hill at the end of the park and slide down using a cut out cardboard box. I chose to come clean
up at this park because it brings me a lot of happy memories about my childhood. This park is
absolutely gorgeous. It has a lot of different activities going on daily and even has a space to bring
your dog and enjoy the park with them. I've celebrated many birthdays, baby showers, and attended
sporting events here. It is always fun! This park is actually very meaningful to me because I even
had a couple birthday parties growing up. Also, once I even got bit by a geese because my mother
gave me a piece of bread to feed the geese but I guess I pulled on it and the geese got mad and bit
me on my eyebrow (still have the mark, true story).
To begin with, while I was cleaning up the park, I noticed that many people didn't even bother to
look at what I was doing. I believe this is because everybody in Miami is worried about themselves
and they don't really care about others or their environment. I even picked up a wrapper of a
chocolate bar that was near this older looking woman, but she ... Show more content on

Personal Narrative Essay : The Life Of My Life
I was sitting at a picnic table with a young boy struggling next to me. His hand was gripped so
tightly onto mine that there were petite fingernail impressions lining my hand. He was screaming,
crying, kicking up the loose gravel that laid on the ground. All because he didn't want to kill a fish at
fishing camp. This was just one of the countless fits a day that this young boy would have in a day.
And learning how to help him was one of the most gratifying experiences I have attained in my life.
I was not a person known to have patience. People considered me snarky and knew that I had no
time for those who were ignorant or difficult to work with. But underneath, this was just an
affectation for someone who lived their life through fear and anger. Fear of the future, and anger at
what my life had become. I had become the daughter of parents that didn't finish college and worked
solely to put food on the table. I had become a sister to an older brother that graduated on the dean's
list from the University of Washington. I had become a friend to many that had the willpower and
intellect to succeed in school without faking it. Fortunately, I overcame a life of fear very quickly
when I transitioned to high school. Not easily, but quickly. That anger, though, occupied my mind
for much longer. I was angry at the world for a long time. I was angry at my position in life, at
people that were succeeding around me, but most of all, myself for not doing more. Then, in an

What Is The Film Picnic At Hanging Rock
Picnic at Hanging Rock is a spectacular film released in 1975, created with the beauty of the
Australian landscape, and a physical representation of director Peter Weir's fascination with the way
the extraordinary and irrational lurk threateningly at the edges of the ordinary and the rational.
Based on a book by Joan Lindsay, Picnic at Hanging Rock takes us to a girls' finishing school in
Australia during 1900, where a group of teenage girls and their teachers embark on a picnic trip to a
local landmark–the Hanging Rock. While the girls rest at the foot of the rock, a group of four girls
begins to explore the rock. However, something unexplained happens and three of the girls fail to

Some believe its true while others believe it's a myth. Regardless, it is a haunting yet engaging film
that captures the serenity and mystic of Hanging Rock located in central Victoria, Australia and the
harshness and mystery of the Australian bush.
Picnic at Hanging Rock brilliantly captures the bush landscape and hot climate of Australia in
multiple high and low angled scenes throughout the entire film. The way the camera cleverly
projects the scale of the vegetation and rock compared to the size of the young girls shows the vast
size and contrasts of our Australian landscape. The blinding sun against some of the scenes causes
the characters dizziness and fatigue, surreally contrasting the rock's beauty and the danger it
presents.
The composer, Peter Weir also creates a dense, dream–like atmosphere throughout the film that
forever is on the verge of intoxicating the viewers, as is does the lead characters, in an overpowering
sense of longing and repression. With soft–focus lenses and careful camera tilts, Weir takes us into a
world of golden glows and gentle whispers, where the characters exist as hazy, evocative

The Importance Of Sexual Harassment In The Office
Sexual harassment continues to be a large problem within the workplace and around the world.
Donna Benson, an American writer, writes in "Sexual Harassment on a University
Campus: The Confluence of Authority Relations, Sexual Interest and Gender Stratification" that
"Female workers have always been vulnerable to sexual abuse by male employees...In non–random
surveys as many as 70 percent of respondents report harassment on the job" (236). This is an
unfortunate statistic and through comedy, the television series The Office (U.S.), created by NBC,
and directed by Benjamin Novak reveals how inappropriate harassment is. The Office (U.S.) is a
comedy based around Dunder Mifflin Paper company's Scranton branch manager, Michael Scott.
Michael is a comedic and belligerent character who is unaware of his socially unacceptable humor,
which shows the audience how unacceptable sexual harassment is. Throughout the second episode
of season two, Michael Scott negatively depicts males through his humor. In addition, the way his
female employees react to his nonsense is similar to the way Jessica Valenti combats sexual
harassment. Lastly, through the use of comedy, the producers of The Office reveal to its audience
how sexual harassment is unacceptable. In Season two, episode two of The Office (U.S.), Michael
Scott negatively depicts males due to his inappropriate sexual harassment. In addition, the way his

Jim does not verbally communicate his feelings about Pam to her directly or to the documentary
interview crew. Instead, he shows his feelings through subtle hints or actions throughout the
episode. One example of a verbal hint is during an interview with the documentary crew in which
Jim says "...Um, Pam's favorite flavor of yogurt, which is mixed berry." Although this seems very
minor, it foreshadows Jim's deeper feelings for Pam. In addition to Jim revealing the subtle hint
about his feelings using the yogurt description, in the "Pilot" episode he also exhibits his feelings
towards Pam in an indirect way. This is evident by his facial expressions and body language before
and after Roy interrupts Jim and Pam's conversation towards the end of the episode. Before Roy
enters the scene, Jim and Pam are both talking and laughing. They had plans to get drinks after work
with the other employees, when Roy becomes a part of the conversation and commands Pam to
leave work with him instead. Pam leaves the room and Jim and Roy are left alone together, creating
a tense and awkward scenario. It is at this point that we first see Jim's animosity towards Roy. The

How To Write A Picnic At Hanging Rock Essay
PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK PRACTICE ESSAY
The novel Picnic at Hanging Rock written by Joan Lindsay in 1967 is set in Australia and tells the
story of a class of female students who attend an exclusive private girls' boarding school called
Appleyard College. In 1900, most of the students and staff go on an excursion to the isolated
Hanging Rock where three girls and a teacher inexplicably vanish after climbing the rock on a
Valentine's Day picnic. The text explores the outlying effects the disappearances have on the school
and local community as the authorities conduct an exhaustive search for the missing four. Picnic at
Hanging Rock has been adapted across numerous mediums and is most renowned in the 1975 film
adaptation by director Peter Weir. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Peter Weir's film adaptation of the novel explores many themes and ideas of the original text;
however, through various cinematic techniques, he is able to enhance and bring to life aspects of the
novel such as the rock and the foreign Australian landscape, the innocence of the girls and the
claustrophobic atmosphere of the college, and finally, the terrible effects of the girl's disappearance
on those left behind.
Through the incorporation of soundtrack and camera angles, Weir enhances the rock and Australian
bush by transforming these two aspects of the novel into an even darker and sinister presence which
looms over the individuals in the film. Within Lindsay's novel, the rock is mentioned on several
occasions and is referred to have 'soaring peaks' and a 'powerful presence' which gives readers the
idea that it is a potentially dangerous location. However, in the film, the rock is portrayed like a
character in its own right and is purposely made to be more frightening. The haunting pan pipes are
played in the background when the camera pans on the rock to depict the implacable monoliths as a
menacing creature which lures the girls. Pan was the god who seduced and kidnapped young

it. Seventy two hours that ponies, griffons, and dragons all debated on if they should make contact.
Four thousand three hundred and twenty minutes for Princess Celestia and Princess Luna to prepare
their armies, should the worst come to pass. "The Flying Castle" as some had come to call it, had
fallen out of the stars themselves. Instead of crashing, (like objects from space usually do) this
object was still zooming around the planet. In three days, it had been everywhere. The Griffon
Empire, Zebrica, The Crystal Empire, and most recently, Canterlot. It was investigated soon after it
's arrival by the Royal Guard. They had been ordered to locate any possible threats from the airborne
'city ', and eliminate them. All sides of The Flying Castle were smooth, made of metal, and red hot.
Not a single entrance to be found, or any visible weapons. Magic didn 't pick up any signs of life
inside of it, or any other magic strong enough to keep an entire city off of the ground. Newspapers
and crackpots worldwide spread rumors that it was an alien invasion, here to conquer the planet and
claim it as their own. Some ponies were excited about the unexpected visitor, hoping they might
share the secrets of the universe. Government officials were concerned for their subjects ' safety, as
well as their own. The first day, everyone panicked. The second day, everyone worried. The third
day,

Picnic Monologue
Reflection Midterm When class first began I conceded myself a novice in some ways I still am.
However now that the class has progressed I fell as though I understand what an actor does more.
When we started the breathing exercises I could not comprehend the point of them. I thought to
myself breathing and acting have no correlation. Now that we have progressed this far in the class I
understand the correlation. At first when we would do the breathing exercising I would get
lightheaded, dizzy, and nauseous, but now I rarely get dizzy yet alone nauseous. The first play we
went to see was Picnic, and I have no idea what to search for when analyzing a play. I just looked
for the sake of writing a paper to pass the class. If i were to ... Show more content on

I can understand the importance of the warmup, we must do them to get out bodies ready for the
acting exercises. At first I could not understand the correlation between the two, but as we
progressed in the term, and added more steps to the warmup I can see its importance to an actors
daily life. Lines and types of actors were two different thing before it was discussed in class. Then
knowing straight, curved, horizontal, and vertical meant what that character was doing, and how
static they are. Now I think that the breathing at the begging of class is a bit tedious, but it is a
necessity to acting its self, and is something that is in my mind

North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic

  • 1. North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic I grew up in a small, rural town in Potts Camp, Mississippi, which is about forty–five minutes from Oxford, Mississippi. Around 2005 my family and I moved away, and during this time The North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic was evolving. Kenny Brown a resident from Potts Camp, Mississippi created the idea of having a picnic to educate, remember, and appreciate their local blues artists, such as R. L. Burnside. The picnic is held in Waterford, Mississippi and lasts for two days. Some of the local venders offer barbeque and catfish plates, along with a slice of watermelon, denoted by the local boy scouts. The festival attracts many travelers to Marshall County, Sara stated, "As many as 11 foreign countries and 38 states for the 2014 festival ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From a young boy he played the blues and was mentored by one of the successful blues man from Mississippi. Kenny wanted to remember the late blues musicians from Mississippi by hosting a festival each year for his community and other travelers from around the world. Many feel that while attending the picnic that it is just a time for fun, good music, food and celebration. However, Jeremy Martin (2014) stated, "You are part of a special moment, and, when the sun goes down and the day's heat breaks, when grandparents hobble up the stage to guest with their grandchildren you realize that this is far better, far bigger, than any festival you'd ever heard of before". • 3. Persuasive Essay On A First Date When you meet someone new, it's really exciting. The feelings of love and euphoria are high and this makes you feel good. Sharing your life with another person is an exciting experience. It's even more exciting when you're compatible with this person. In order to figure out if you're compatible with a potential partner, the dating period is necessary. Dating allows you to learn the quirks, likes and dislikes of another person. You'll also learn whether or not you like spending quality time with them. The typical first date for many couples involves dinner and movie. However, the dinner and movie idea isn't always the best way to get to know each other. Sure, you can have conversation over dinner, but when the movie is rolling, you both are ingrained in the movie screen. That's potentially more than two hours engrossed in something else other than each other. There are tons of memorable ways to enjoy and get to know one another on a first date that don't involve watching the big screen. 1. Check out the local paper to find out when and where there will be live outdoor music. Coordinate and make a picnic date out of that evening. Most working professionals think to try fine dining at a fancy restaurant to make a big impression. However, it's the detail and thoughtfulness that makes the most impact. Some of the most beautiful relationships are born underneath the stars on a picnic blanket. Even if you don't know how to cook, stop a local sub shop or grocery store. All you need to do is fill up your picnic basket with some snacks, drinks and sandwiches. Throw in a few utensils, napkins and a comfy blanket to sit on. Despite that, they were never able to tell each other how they felt until later in the show. Pam was already engaged, and Jim did not want to mess that up for her although he still wanted to be with Pam. Finally, at the end of season 2 Jim tells Pam how he feels about her and the season ends with Jim and Pam kissing. Pam's engagement with her Fiancé Roy falls apart fortunately because of the toxicity of he put into the relationship. Skipping ahead a few seasons, Jim and Pam start dating and soon enough they get engaged. At the end of season 5 Pam finds out she is pregnant and Jim is going to be a dad. They end up getting married in Niagara Falls and the audience feels so happy for this "fairy tale" couple and that their love finally overcame the struggles of their daily lives. However, conflict found its way into their relationship early and caused a great amount of conflict within their new family. Many of these problems can be seen through the lack of function being served throughout the family and certain roles not being played. During the wedding there is conflict between Pam's grandmother Mema and Pam because the secret that was supposed to be kept about Pam being pregnant is spilled by Jim while he was giving a toast. • 7. Sexual Harassment In Donna Ned's The Office Sexual harassment continues to be a substantial problem within the workplace and around the world. Donna Benson, an American author, writes in "Sexual Harassment on a University Campus: The Confluence of Authority Relations, Sexual Interest and Gender Stratification" that "Female workers have always been vulnerable to sexual abuse by male employees... In non–random surveys as many as 70 percent of respondents report harassment on the job" (236). This is an unfortunate statistic, and through comedy, the television series The Office (U.S.), created by NBC, and directed by Benjamin Novak reveals the reality of this unfortunate statistic and how inappropriate harassment is. The Office (U.S.) is a comedy based around Dunder Mifflin Paper company's Scranton branch manager, Michael Scott. Michael is a comedic and belligerent character who is unaware of his socially distasteful humor, which shows the audience how unacceptable sexual harassment is. Through the use of comedy, the producers of The Office reveal to its audience how sexual harassment is unacceptable. In the episode titled, "Sexual Harassment" in season two of The Office (U.S.), Michael Scott negatively depicts males due to his inappropriate sexual harassment. In addition, the way his female employees react to his harassment parallels with another woman's strategy to combat sexual harassment. Lastly, the producers used comedy to bring awareness to one of the problems that particular society is dealing with, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Picnic Critique At Prospect Theater in Modesto, California on the Sunday afternoon of September 18, 2016, the play "Picnic" was presented. This play was depicted on Labor Day in the 1950's, and it demonstrated to the audience how the apple does not fall far from the tree in mother Flo and daughter Madge's life decisions. In order to make this evident to the audience, the director Michael Hewitt capitalized on the stage setting, the sound effects, and costumes. The stage setting played an integral part in the production of "Picnic". The days were tracked by Nikko Linares playing Bomber because he delivered the newspaper; this was a seemingly small character that played a large role because it showed the quick and almost reckless actions of Madge a the end of the play. The quaint stage's space fully maximized its potential with the use of two homes with porches, a retro–looking chair and a tree stump inbetween them, and a white picket fence that seemed to connect the two homes. The homes were both housing only women from very different walks of life. The house where Becky Bjerke playing Madge resides was facing the audience and away from the train tracks. The director did this to symbolize how her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The actors and actresses were all wearing clothes that fit them well. Although, she changed into her new pink gown that her mother had bought for her for another occasion, so when her mother had her take it off, it symbolized her being done with Alan. Attention Getter: Have you ever wondered why you decided to keep a job after your boss does something ruthless or why you would do something you did not want to do in order to keep your relationship healthy? The scenarios Pam Halpert, Jim Halpert's wife, and Oscar Martinez, the homosexual accountant, face in the TV show The Office, shows what happens when the reward outweighs the hefty cost. II. Thesis: Through arrogance and sacrifice, social exchange theory occurs in business relationships, and personal relationships throughout the film. Preview: In this presentation, I will define social exchange theory and its role in relationships. I will then apply this theory to those relationships in the TV show The Office. Finally, I will state why it is the most important theory when deciding whether or not to pursue or terminate a relationship. (Transition: Let's first look at the theory and its role in relationships.) Body I. According to the about education website, Crossman states "social exchange theory is a model for interpreting society as a series of interactions between people that are based on estimates of rewards and punishments." Rewards come in many forms: money, gifts, hugs, romance, social recognition and so on. Cost or punishments also come in many forms: humiliation, beating, crying, sacrifice, etc. A. This is a story that most students enjoy reading year after every year. My additions to the lesson to the reading lesson are in italics to show how I could make the lesson more multicultural. The summary of the Halmoni and the Picnic story: Yunmi is concerned about her grandmother, Halmoni, who has lately moved from the country of Korea to stay with Yunmi's family in America. Sometimes I have the girls read a page altogether, at times all the boys read at once, sometimes I read a page aloud and other times the east or west half of the class. I can see that this takes the attention of the student who isn't such a good reader and it this strategy does well in my classroom. There is good comprehension questions listed in my teaching manual that I use. After the execution of the new joint center standards, I have learned that I should have the students review the story. This is an issue I plan to add to the lesson. To help understand the story, I tell the students to go through the pages and attempt to foretell what will happen in the story. I have the students try to suggest which characters are grandmother Halmoni, Anna Marie, Yunmi, and Helen. As they try to find these characters, I ask my students whether they think they feel sad or happy. When we have done reading the story, I feel it is essential to have the students discuss whether their projections about what the story would be about being right. Then I ask the students what is the problem in the story and how was it solved. A number of the concepts taught in this story include predicting outcomes, writing an invitation, using context to figure out unknown words, and irregular verbs. It would be fun for the students to set apart some time and write their own invitation for that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Visit to Cades Cove Essay A Visit to Cades Cove Having lived in the Blount County area all my life, I have taken many weekend trips with my family and friends to Cades Cove, a beautiful place situated in The Great Smokey Mountains. Here you can drive the eleven–mile trail (visiting the homes of people who once resided in Cades Cove), picnic in the park, and camp out for the weekend. Cades Cove contains a lot of history as well as beautiful sites. Located near the Townsend entrance to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, the cove is a great place to come and relax for a weekend. From ETSU, the trip is only a 2–1/2 hour drive. It contains the Mill, the Mill race, and the Dam. There is a blacksmith shop, a barn, and a sorghum mill as well in this area. It started out as the home of Gregg Cable in 1879 and later became the home of Becky Cable. The last site is the Henry Whitehead place. This cabin was made of mill– sawn square logs and has a brick chimney. An older one sits beside it. Ending your tour around the loop, you will find Sparks Lane, a two–way road that provides a shortcut back to the campground or an exit from the cove. Although there is a great deal of history in the park, Cades Cove has a lot of things to offer its visitors. There is so much to do as far as recreation is concerned. A number of people enjoy fishing, hiking, horseback riding, backpacking, camping, sightseeing, and taking nature walks. Cades Cove offers many trails for people who enjoy hiking. Most of these trails lead you to the cabins if you choose to walk instead of drive. My favorite trail is the one up to Look Rock. Here you can look out over all the mountains and the city. • 22. The Million Year Picnic Essay While growing up, you might find yourself in a sort of limbo. There is a time when you are between a child and an adult, between young and grown. This is exactly the case for Timothy, the protagonist in Bradbury's "The Million Year Picnic" (1946). He senses parts of the adult world that are hidden from his younger brothers, while retaining a childlike uncertainty and confusion. This paper seeks to analyze and interpret Timothy's character as well as the short story's narration, setting and themes. The story unfolds on the planet Mars. It is October in year 2026, yet it is summer on Mars. The planet is covered in crumbling cities, canals and multicolored deserts. The family visits in the wake of a great war that eradicated all human and extraterrestrial life there. Because of the barren atmosphere on Mars, there is a strained feeling in the family. They talk in whispers when walking through the abandoned cities (p. 179, l. 14). Both parents are also very tense from the beginning of the trip. The father is trembling when packing the camp (p. 173, l. 5) and the mother is unusually quiet throughout most of the novel. She seldom comes with any comments or remarks. • 24. Representation Of Characterism In Picnic At Hanging Rock... Joan Lindsay, the renowned author of the distinguished Australian novel Picnic at Hanging Rock, has foreground the representation of Victorian society as repressed and constrained through the characterisation of various figures throughout the novel. The riveting tale follows the mysterious disappearance of three girls and a teacher, with only one girl to ever be seen again, during the Appleyard College's trip to the mystic Hanging Rock on Valentine's Day in 1900. One of the main focuses in the book is the depiction of the Victorian Society as uptight and controlled, which has been developed by various characters, including Miss McCraw, Mrs Appleyard and Mademoiselle. Miss McCraw, the peculiar mathematics teacher, is one of the least likely to go missing. However this is exactly what occurs and through this uncharacteristic disappearance a notion is presented that excessive repression results in extreme methods of release. The characterisation of Mrs Appleyard, combined with that of Miss McCraw, also develops the readers understanding of Victorian society and how rigid social constraints will eventually breakdown. In contrast, Mademoiselle, the passionate arts teacher, juxtaposes the previously mentioned characters by being kind and affectionate towards the girls. The characterisation of these individuals throughout Picnic at Hanging Rock contributes to the overall portrayal of Victorian society as uptight and suppressed and progresses the reader's understanding of this ... • 28. Weird Melancholy Of Henry Lawson 's ' The Bush Undertaker... Weird Melancholy in Henry Lawson's 'The Bush Undertaker' and Peter Weir's Picnic at Hanging Rock In 1876, in his preface to Adam Lindsay Gordon's Poems, novelist Marcus Clarke coined the phrase 'Weird Melancholy' in reference to what he perceived to be the 'dominant note' of his country's landscape and his subject's verse. In doing so, he distilled the entire mood of Australian Gothic into one eerie essence, an essence present, to varying extents, in all texts of that genre. This can be seen through an examination of two exemplary Australian Gothic texts, each vastly different from the other in form and content, but united by their pervasive aura of Weirdness and Melancholy: Henry Lawson's 1894 short story 'The Bush Undertaker' and Peter ... In describing the reptile, alliteration serves as emphasis, while the word 'black' connotes the native Australian whose bones have been disinterred by the protagonist. As he goes about burying Brummy, the goanna, always accompanied by the epithet 'black', reappears continually. The man's repeated sightings of the creature link it to something sinister, until it becomes a symbolic force of justice, frighteningly rebuking the hatter for his profanity of a sacred site (Lee). The goanna is a metaphor for a divine power, supernatural, fatalistic, and truly Weird. The idea that human activity is governed by a higher power, resulting in a lack of personal agency, is also explored in Picnic at Hanging Rock. Even before they arrive at their picnic spot, the convoy from Appleyard College seem to be greatly affected by Hanging Rock. Mathematics mistress Miss McCraw seems mesmerised by the monolith, speaking quietly and 'almost nostalgically' (Green 11) about its creation: Silicious lava, forced up from deep down below. • 32. Picnic By William Inge: Play Analysis "Picnic" is a three–act play written by William Inge, the author of "Bus Stop" and "Come Back, Little Sheba." Set in a small town in Kansas, Picnic is about the lives of ordinary Americans. The play was first performed on Broadway in 1953. Hal, a handsome drifter, arrives in a small Kansas town looking for work. The town happens to be the home of Hal's old college roommate Alan. Alan is in a relationship with Madge Owens, the prettiest girl in town. Madge's mother Flo is desperate to get her married off to Alan and is horrified by the romantic sparks taking place between Madge and Hal. Madge's younger, bookish, plainer sister Millie is jealous of the attention that Madge gets for her beauty. The increasing animosity toward Hal softens Madge's heart. She feels both empathy and desire. When Alan isn't around, Hal steals a kiss from Madge. Then, the two lovebirds have sex. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He even throws a punch at his ex–friend, but Hal is too fast and strong, easily defeating the college boy. Moments later, after Hal has caught the train headed for Tulsa, Madge packs her bags and leaves home for good, planning to meet up with Hal and begin a new life together. Her mother is shocked and despondent as she watches her daughter head off into the distance. The wise neighbor Mrs. Potts consoles her. For me, this play is still relevant. One of the themes of this play is that youth is a precious gift that must be savored instead of squandered. Throughout the play, the adult characters envy the young. During her tirade aimed at Hal, Rosemary vehemently declares: "You think just 'cause you're young you can push people aside and not pay them any mind... The mother says to the father that the Martians are a dead race, which suggests that maybe the Martians don't exist and he is referring to something else. Here Rad Bradbury incites that there may be a twist we don't expect. For example, Rad Bradbury writes, "I've always wanted to see a Martian,' said Michael. 'Where are they, Dad? You Promised.' 'There they are,' said Dad, and he shifted Michael on his shoulder and pointed straight down. The Martians were there. Timothy began to shiver. In this part of the story, we see that the inciting of a plot twist ends up coming true in the ending, the father didn't mean Martians as in the supposed dead race, but he is referring to themselves. The word Martian is very broad, it simply means inhabitants of Mars or relating to mars. So we can see why the father was able to fool the rest of the family. In this story, the characters learn at the end that the father meant when he talked about meeting Martians he didn't mean meeting other Martians. Another strong sociological concept I pondered upon while watching any episode was gender biases. Sociologists have studied differences between gender and have come to the conclusion that men and women tend to make up majority of the jobs on the opposite side of the job spectrum. For instance, men typically obtain jobs that express power, and decision–making, such as manager, sales rep, or a doctor. When women mostly occupy jobs that are emotion–driven and require more emotional labor, such as social workers, nurses, and receptionists. "The Office" reflects this idea because Pam Beesley is the receptionist and is the first face you see when walking into the office. Pam has great emotional labor and she shows it throughout the series by smiling at people even when she has gone through a divorce as well as when her parents were going through a divorce. In the episode "Dream Team" Pam leaves the office to start her own paper company (Yay for Pam transcending gender norms in the work force!) which leaves Kevin to fill in as receptionist. • 52. Personal Narrative Essay : The Life Of My Life I was sitting at a picnic table with a young boy struggling next to me. His hand was gripped so tightly onto mine that there were petite fingernail impressions lining my hand. He was screaming, crying, kicking up the loose gravel that laid on the ground. All because he didn't want to kill a fish at fishing camp. This was just one of the countless fits a day that this young boy would have in a day. And learning how to help him was one of the most gratifying experiences I have attained in my life. I was not a person known to have patience. People considered me snarky and knew that I had no time for those who were ignorant or difficult to work with. But underneath, this was just an affectation for someone who lived their life through fear and anger. Fear of the future, and anger at what my life had become. I had become the daughter of parents that didn't finish college and worked solely to put food on the table. I had become a sister to an older brother that graduated on the dean's list from the University of Washington. I had become a friend to many that had the willpower and intellect to succeed in school without faking it. Fortunately, I overcame a life of fear very quickly when I transitioned to high school. Not easily, but quickly. That anger, though, occupied my mind for much longer. I was angry at the world for a long time. I was angry at my position in life, at people that were succeeding around me, but most of all, myself for not doing more. Then, in an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 54. What Is The Film Picnic At Hanging Rock Picnic at Hanging Rock is a spectacular film released in 1975, created with the beauty of the Australian landscape, and a physical representation of director Peter Weir's fascination with the way the extraordinary and irrational lurk threateningly at the edges of the ordinary and the rational. Based on a book by Joan Lindsay, Picnic at Hanging Rock takes us to a girls' finishing school in Australia during 1900, where a group of teenage girls and their teachers embark on a picnic trip to a local landmark–the Hanging Rock. While the girls rest at the foot of the rock, a group of four girls begins to explore the rock. However, something unexplained happens and three of the girls fail to return. Soon afterwards one of their teachers follows and she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some believe its true while others believe it's a myth. Regardless, it is a haunting yet engaging film that captures the serenity and mystic of Hanging Rock located in central Victoria, Australia and the harshness and mystery of the Australian bush. Picnic at Hanging Rock brilliantly captures the bush landscape and hot climate of Australia in multiple high and low angled scenes throughout the entire film. The way the camera cleverly projects the scale of the vegetation and rock compared to the size of the young girls shows the vast size and contrasts of our Australian landscape. The blinding sun against some of the scenes causes the characters dizziness and fatigue, surreally contrasting the rock's beauty and the danger it presents. The composer, Peter Weir also creates a dense, dream–like atmosphere throughout the film that forever is on the verge of intoxicating the viewers, as is does the lead characters, in an overpowering sense of longing and repression. With soft–focus lenses and careful camera tilts, Weir takes us into a world of golden glows and gentle whispers, where the characters exist as hazy, evocative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. The Importance Of Sexual Harassment In The Office Sexual harassment continues to be a large problem within the workplace and around the world. Donna Benson, an American writer, writes in "Sexual Harassment on a University Campus: The Confluence of Authority Relations, Sexual Interest and Gender Stratification" that "Female workers have always been vulnerable to sexual abuse by male employees...In non–random surveys as many as 70 percent of respondents report harassment on the job" (236). This is an unfortunate statistic and through comedy, the television series The Office (U.S.), created by NBC, and directed by Benjamin Novak reveals how inappropriate harassment is. The Office (U.S.) is a comedy based around Dunder Mifflin Paper company's Scranton branch manager, Michael Scott. The winner of multiple Emmy awards and Emmy nominations, The Office, aired for nine seasons. Jim does not verbally communicate his feelings about Pam to her directly or to the documentary interview crew. Instead, he shows his feelings through subtle hints or actions throughout the episode. One example of a verbal hint is during an interview with the documentary crew in which Jim says "...Um, Pam's favorite flavor of yogurt, which is mixed berry." Although this seems very minor, it foreshadows Jim's deeper feelings for Pam. In addition to Jim revealing the subtle hint about his feelings using the yogurt description, in the "Pilot" episode he also exhibits his feelings towards Pam in an indirect way. This is evident by his facial expressions and body language before and after Roy interrupts Jim and Pam's conversation towards the end of the episode. Before Roy enters the scene, Jim and Pam are both talking and laughing. They had plans to get drinks after work with the other employees, when Roy becomes a part of the conversation and commands Pam to leave work with him instead. Pam leaves the room and Jim and Roy are left alone together, creating a tense and awkward scenario. It is at this point that we first see Jim's animosity towards Roy. The "Pilot" episode illustrates an example of the beginning of what a real, believable relationship could like. The episode shows that feelings someone has for another person can take time to fully develop, and not all relationships are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It did not have a porch with steps or garage, but it did have a basement and a large backyard. Molly, Susan, and Beth greeted the fearless foursome at the front door. The kitchen had a sliding door hidden in the wall. Walking through the living room, crossing to the left stood a doorway that led to three bedrooms and a single bathroom for the nine–member family. Max planned to remodel the house in stages, beginning on the third bedroom first. All seven children shared one bedroom while demolition began on the third bedroom, making it into a dining room adjacent to the living room. Two sets of bunk beds and a single cot filled the entire bedroom. The cramped room had minimal space to walk between the beds. • 74. How To Write A Picnic At Hanging Rock Essay PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK PRACTICE ESSAY The novel Picnic at Hanging Rock written by Joan Lindsay in 1967 is set in Australia and tells the story of a class of female students who attend an exclusive private girls' boarding school called Appleyard College. In 1900, most of the students and staff go on an excursion to the isolated Hanging Rock where three girls and a teacher inexplicably vanish after climbing the rock on a Valentine's Day picnic. The text explores the outlying effects the disappearances have on the school and local community as the authorities conduct an exhaustive search for the missing four. Picnic at Hanging Rock has been adapted across numerous mediums and is most renowned in the 1975 film adaptation by director Peter Weir. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Peter Weir's film adaptation of the novel explores many themes and ideas of the original text; however, through various cinematic techniques, he is able to enhance and bring to life aspects of the novel such as the rock and the foreign Australian landscape, the innocence of the girls and the claustrophobic atmosphere of the college, and finally, the terrible effects of the girl's disappearance on those left behind. Through the incorporation of soundtrack and camera angles, Weir enhances the rock and Australian bush by transforming these two aspects of the novel into an even darker and sinister presence which looms over the individuals in the film. Within Lindsay's novel, the rock is mentioned on several occasions and is referred to have 'soaring peaks' and a 'powerful presence' which gives readers the idea that it is a potentially dangerous location. However, in the film, the rock is portrayed like a character in its own right and is purposely made to be more frightening. The haunting pan pipes are played in the background when the camera pans on the rock to depict the implacable monoliths as a menacing creature which lures the girls. Persuasive Essay About Video Games In life, you learn that certain things just don't mix: Diet Coke and Mentos, cereal and water, drugs and good grades, and picnic tables and dancing, just to name a few. That last example might seem a little bizarre to you, but to me it hits very close to home. Throughout my childhood, we had this picnic table that sat on our back patio. We would have tea parties on it or use it as a place to color or do homework. Sounds pretty fun, right? Sure, as long as you were using it the way it was intended to be used. Taking advantage of the lack of supervision, we did some crazy things and often found ourselves ending up in trouble of one sort or another. But back to our story; Nicole had finished dragging the picnic table over to where I was standing and dropped it, letting it hit the ground with a thud. She swiped a hand across her forehead to wipe away the sweat that had gathered in little beads on her face and shot me a grin. She climbed up onto the bench and then stepped onto the table top. From where I was standing, I could see the plastic bending underneath the weight of her body. Already my mind started to race with all the things that could go wrong with this. But before I could say a word, she reached down and grabbed my hand, pulling me up to join her. I started to protest, but she cut me off as she explained that she had finally decided what she wanted to be when she was older: a dancer. Obviously the only way to improve your dancing skills was by doing flips off of a picnic table. Or at least that's what Nicole told me. The first flip I did was okay. I landed on my feet but only managed to do half a flip. Nicole tried right after me and the same thing happened to her. After about 15 minutes, I was starting to do ... Seventy two hours that ponies, griffons, and dragons all debated on if they should make contact. Four thousand three hundred and twenty minutes for Princess Celestia and Princess Luna to prepare their armies, should the worst come to pass.
