Americans consume some form of coffee beverage. That overwhelming statistic is indicative of the
sales boom of the coffee house sector between 2000 and 2005. During that period the coffee house
sector developed larger and faster than any other sector in the restaurant industry, citing a 157%
increase in sales. The coffee house sector is only expected to grow. Market analysts suggest another

Advantages Of Coffee Supply Chain
How do you start your morning? 93 per cent of the world will have the same result drinking a cup of
Coffee. These days' people will lose their minds if they don't have caffeine in their system they
would even try different types of coffee such as (cappuccino, espresso, latte...) the customers
demanding for product choice, for quality values have made coffee a popular demand to the public
worldwide. Value and Quality are the reason in which the customer choices an organization's
products in comparison to other competitions. So how does a tree that produces coffee is located

Now regarding the supply chain it requires to bring a product from its original raw status to the
finished goods that the customers going to buy. For coffee the supply chain has some complex
process and changes in some countries but the basics include the following:
Growers who usually work on a small basic land for one hectares or more many of the workers
themselves do the primary things like hulling or drying
Intermediaries or negotiators are more involved with the aspects of the supply chain. There can be
then just one negotiator and they can even do some of the primary processing or they can collect
quantities of coffee and sell them to a dealer or another processor
Processors are individual workers or farmers who already have the needed equipment to process the

Fashion In The 1980's
The 1980's is remembered for the "yuppie decade", materialism and consumerism. A yuppie
symbolized the 1980's era. A yuppie is a baby boomer, that is college educated, has a well paying
job, and a fancy taste. They are often associated as being materialistic and self–centered. The 1980's
was an era of color, blockbuster, cable network, fashion, and overall a successful decade. The 80's
was full of experimentation with crazy bright colors and hairstyles. The most iconic hairstyles were
the whale spout ponytail, crimped hair, half–up and extremely voluminous, side ponytail, permed
and teased, and many more (13 Hairstyles You Totally Wore in the '80s, 2015). For men the most
common hairstyle was a small quiff. The hottest look usually were bright green, yellow, blue, and
almost anything neon. The fashion completely changed from the 1970's, which basically consisted

Network Neutrality Network Tier
Network Neutrality or Network Tier?
Network neutrality has offered entrepreneurs the ability to start up a new business using the internet
as a passage for advertising and gaining a customer base. It has allowed for individuals to surf the
World Wide Web to read articles, look at photos and watch video's all from the convenience of their
home or portable electronic device. While there are two sides to every coin, there are two opinions
about the internet and whether it should be managed on the current net neutrality concept or a more
tiered approach. While both sides have valid points, it must be decided which approach is for the
better good for society.
What is Network Neutrality? Why is the Internet Running this way?

As President Obama stated in a letter dated November 10, 2014, "We cannot allow Internet service
providers (ISPs) to restrict the best access or to pick winners and losers in the online marketplace for
services and ideas" (para. 2). "...neither the cable company nor the phone company will be able to
act as a gatekeeper, restricting what you can do or see online" (para. 4). If the government did not
impose rules to adhere to, internet service providers would take that opportunity to exploit the
opportunity to gouge the users by restricting access to certain sites or information unless they paid
the top tier which would be at a premium price. People and many businesses cannot afford high
price internet service and only the one percenters would afford the luxury of all access

Netflix Argumentative Essay
At the turn of the millennium in 1999, the TiVo Corporation released the Digital Video Recorder or
'DVR' for short. This breakthrough in technology allowed millions of families across the globe to
record a live TV show or movie and watch it at a time that was most convenient for them. With this
new threat to movie rental stores such as Blockbuster Video, companies attempted to create new
forms of media consumption to overstep their opponents. Due to this form of competition, Netflix
Incorporated has beneficially altered the way that Americans consume entertainment and will
continue to do so for years to come. When Netflix was started back in 1997, its purpose was to act
simply as a DVD mailing service. Subscribers were allowed "an unlimited ... Show more content on

The first season of the show Orange is the New Black cost Netflix about $4 million dollars to make
per episode, or about $50 million dollars per season. According to Creative Artists Agency, Netflix's
total revenue from the show reached was "$1.57 billion in the first quarter of 2015, and is up to
$1.97 billion, according to 2016's first quarter earnings" (Young 1). If this example wasn't enough,
the same phenomenon was again seen with the release of the show Daredevil. In the case of this
show, the premiere which occurred on April 10 of 2015 saw "strong sampling, with an estimated
10.7% of subscribers watching at least one episode in its first 11 days on the streaming service"
(Wallenstein 2). In all of these cases, the reasoning behind the writers and producers wanting to
work with the company is beautifully articulated through a statement from Beau Willimon in regards
to the message that Netflix first gave him that "We [Netflix] place our faith in you. We believe in
you and as artists, we want you to make the show you want to make...while we [the House of Cards
producers] were always in communication with Netflix and always kept them in the loop, we never

In 2005 a deadly hurricane hit the southern states more specifically Mississippi. I remember the only
thing on our t.v. in the week to come was the weather channel as we carefully monitored the
movement of the hurricane. School was cancelled so being in third grade I was ecstatic that I would
not have to go, but I did not realize at the time the scope of the storm at the time. The night the
hurricane was to hit we went and stayed at my grandparents' house which in my mind was a fun
sleepover. The next day waking up and looking outside I was in shock. Trees were split in half,
power lines were on the ground, and as we went to check our home was relieved that a tree had just
missed landing on our house. School was cancelled for two weeks and everyone was busy trying to
adjust from the storm. A group of family members would leave in the morning to wait in line for gas
another would help hand feed the millions of chickens in the chicken houses. Without power the
chickens can't get food, water, or cooling keeping them alive this is important because payment is
based on the amount that is alive. To this day any storm that is in my proximity I take it very

have become used to visiting Zara frequently, as there is always a new product. Zara launches 100
different collections every year, with over 11000 models, none lasting more than five weeks in
production and with an average lead–time (design to store delivery) of four weeks. Inditex, the

At the closing of the 2001 exercise the group had 1080 stores (449 of Zara, that represents almost
80% of total sales) in 33 countries, over 20.000 employees and the impressive profitability and
growth figures mentioned in the introduction. Networks and Alliances Researchers have provided
some evidence that companies relying on strategic network alliances are more profitable since closer
buyer–supplier relationships may offer many technical, financial, and strategic advantages over spot
market transactions and vertical integration (Mohr and Speckman, 1994). Furthermore, strategic
alliances provide an effective alternative to improve economies of scale and scope. Different
scholars have studied the antecedents that lead to different forms of network alliances. These studies
suggest that assets type involved will impact the type of relationships (Dwyer, Schurr, and Oh,
1987). A different stream of research has studied the relationship between environmental uncertainty
and resource interdependence with the nature of relationships. Handy, 1995; and Mohr and
Spekman, 1994, have conducted empirical exploratory studies on the formation and evolution of
inter–organizational relationships. Production and logistics are largely regional at Inditex, with
much less outsourcing than is common in this sector. Why the network evolved into this
configuration can be due to cultural characteristics of Spain. There exist a rich literature on
collaboration. According to this Industry

Development Of Online Dating And Technology
Development of online dating
Yating, Wu 666285
Introduction
Today, people can do many things digitally, and it would appear totally new content and new
economic models in this digital age (Negroponte, Nicholas, 1996). In the decade, the percentage of
Internet users escalates every year form 14.1% in 2004 to 40% in 2014, according to
internetlivestats.com. Paralleling with the increasing of internet usage, online dating becomes a
popular industry in some counties, and Pew Center study shows that the percentage of online dating
adult user rises to 11% in 2013 from 3% in 2008 in the US (the majority of online dating).
Therefore, online dating is considered to be a new profitable service. Besides, mobile devices, such
as smartphones and tablets, become more prevalent; to achieve digital convergence more online
dating websites provided applications which allow users to date online everywhere, and it is called
mobile dating. According to a eMarketer's report, released in 11 June 2014, that American adults
spent more time on social network with mobile devices then with PCs, meaning that the way of
doing online activities transferred from desktop to laptop and then to mobile devices.
In this essay, it will mainly cover the online dating's development and business model and its
impact. Moreover, what makes online dating prevalent, and how do people change the way of
finding a mate are also worth discussing.
Why people do online dating?

They're All Mad Here: A Literary Comparission of The Fall...
They're All Mad Here: A Literary Comparison of "The Fall of the House of Usher" and "The
Masque of the Red Death" Internationally known romantic author Edgar Allan Poe has always
represented darkness, madness, and death in his stories. With these representations, Poe must
provide this mood for the reader to become engulfed in the madness. In his tale "The Fall of the
House of Usher," Poe uses descriptive details about the dull color and ruggedness of the house and
the Ushers themselves to set a gloomy mood. He also describes in detail Roderick Usher's descent
into madness and his fearfulness of death. In turn, he depicts brightly colored chambers in "The
Masque of the Red Death," but the arrangement of colors provides a chaotic ... Show more content

This routine breaks when his twin sister Madeline "dies" and Roderick and the narrator entomb her
within the house. The death of his sister causes Roderick to descend deeper into his own madness.
He spends most of his time roaming "from chamber to chamber with hurried, unequal, and
objectless step" and began neglecting the daily activities shared between him and the narrator (Poe).
Due to the lack of social interaction between the two, literary expert Craig Howes believes the
already mad Roderick now "draws the narrator into madness," (Howes). Now that Roderick has
become less sociable with the narrator and there is one less person in the house, the narrator lacks
the social interactions required by most humans. He feels uneasy about the "corpse" they have
entombed and begins to fear the initial dark and gloom of the house itself both inside and out.
Although Prince Prospero from "The Masque of the Red Death" has descended into madness just as
much, if not more so, as Roderick Usher, his madness is represented in a different manner.
Prospero's madness is fueled primarily by ignorance. He believes as long as he and his guests
remain within the confines of the abbey, they will all be safe from the "Red Death." Due to this
ignorance, within the abbey "there were buffoons, there were improvisatori, there were ballet–
dancers, there were musicians, there was Beauty, there was wine. All these and security were within.

How Television Images Affect Children
How Television Images Affect Children
by Ron Kaufman
"[A nursery school teacher told me] her children were crudely bopping each other much more than
previously, without provocation. When she remonstrated with them, they would protest, "But that 's
what the Three Stooges do." This attitude did not signify a serious undermining of character. But it
certainly showed me that watching violence can lower a child 's standards of behavior. Recent
psychological experiments have shown that watching brutality stimulates at least slight cruelty in
adults, too."
–– Dr. Benjamin Spock, from the book Baby and Child Care, 1968
Fifty–seven percent of television programs contain "psychologically harmful" violence, according to
a study funded by the cable television industry. The study, released February 7, 1996, tracked 2,500
hours of television programming. This was the largest sample ever analyzed by researchers.
Oh, that 's ridiculous! Television is not harmful, it 's just entertainment.
But can the steady flow of images watched nightly from television screens across the country be so
easily dismissed as simply entertainment? If the sheer volume of absorbed images is considered,
how can what is shown on television have no effect on one 's own mental images? And if new
mental images are created, shouldn 't it be logical to say that they can have an effect on behavior?
But the argument that television has a significant effect on children should not rely on studies alone,
but on common

Percy Jackson And The Olympians Narrative Essay
Eyes running line to line, anxious for what would happen next, I sat wide–eyed, my body glued to
the edge of my seat, as I read a book from my favorite series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians by
Rick Riordan. The book had me engrossed with the story of Percy and his best friends, dying a little
inside every time I turned a page only to find out that my favorite fictional hero had not yet made it
to safety. Just as I arrived at the most intense part, the part where the mastermind behind the great,
inescapable Labyrinth would finally be revealed, my grandmother called for me downstairs.
"Haley!"
"What?" I called back down the stairs, very vexed that my grandmother could bother me at the
absolute best part.
No answer.
I sprinted downstairs through the kitchen, almost knocking over every plant pot and vase on my way
to my grandma. There I found her in the living room where she often spent her time watching the
Game Show Network. "You called for me," I replied with a bit of annoyance in my voice, "at the
very best part of my book." My grandmother seemed taken aback, not only because of my sassy
remark, but by my lack of remembrance that I had my first day of seventh grade that morning at the

Last <oments of John Brown Visual Analysis Essay
Formal Analysis: The Last Moments of John Brown The Last Moments of John Brown is a painting
by Thomas Hovenden. It is an oil on canvas painting painted in 1884. The dimensions of the
painting are 46 1/8 x 38 3/8 inches. This piece was painted to depict abolitionist martyr John Brown
being taken to his execution in Charlestown, Virginia, on December 2, 1859. The piece is currently
located at the De Young Museum in San Francisco, California and its original location is at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. On October 16th, 1859, John Brown led a group of

The crowd on the left side was likely free slaves. The fact that the little white girl was there further
implies that these people were free. Thomas Hovenden uses a mix of warm and cool colors to paint
this picture. The mother and the babies clothing are the only colors that have high value, which
helps them stand out in the painting. The baby is wearing a bright blue jacket while the mother is
wearing a red bandanna and yellowish dress. His use of bright colors to illustrate this little family
along with John Brown giving his blessing to the baby communicates to us that there is a bright
future ahead for them. The contour lines of the painting are drawn strong and hard, isolating each
figure. The lines in the painting are mainly vertical. The majority of the people are all standing up,
the soldiers weapons are pointed upward, and the pillars are painted tall. The vertical lines
communicates a sense of heighten spirituality. Also, if you look closely behind John Brown, the
artist manipulates the lines of the building to put a cross–shaped figure right above his head. The
combination of these two factors gives us the feeling that Thomas Hovenden was trying to portray
John Brown as a Christ–like Martyr heading to his crucifixion. The lighting of the picture is very
natural and comforting. The artist painted the setting to be a bright sunny day. The execution of a
person should be a sad,

A Preliminary Retaliatory Action Of North Korea

In a preliminary retaliatory action, President Obama signed an executive order that builds on

Mutual UFO Network
The Mutual UFO Network will land in Las Vegas this July with its 48th annual symposium, The
Case for a Secret Space Program. Jan Harzan, the executive director of MUFON, said the
symposium will look into the possibility of one or more secret space programs in the government
with hidden advance technologies, including spacecrafts. MUFON is a non–profit scientific research
organization that collects and investigates UFO reports from the public. The organization receives
between 500 and 1,000 reports each month. While about 70 percent are debunked and labled as
identified flying objects, or IFOs, Harzan said the rest remain unknown after investigation. While
some of those could be extraterrestrial UFOs, Harzan said, others could be man–made as part of a
secret space program. "Of the 30 percent unknown, we don't believe all are extraterrestrial craft,"
Harzan said. "Is there a possibility that some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Are The Reasons For The Separation Of Time Warner Cable
Time Warner Cable started as a small television company American Television and Communications
in 1968. After merging with Warner Cable in 1992, the private company, Time Warner Cable, is
born. They started RoadRunner ® the first high–speed internet in 1996 with a quick follow up of
cable in 1990 and phone services in 2003. TWC is now the second largest cable supplier second to
Comcast. With 4.5 million phone subscribers, TWC is the fifth–largest landline phone supplier.
Combined, TWC has services in 29 states and serves roughly 16 million customers. Customers have
been attached to TWC due to its reasonable priced packaged that are fit to different class levels.
TWC has been sure to keep customers happy by upgrading services regularly while keeping the
prices below competitor's prices. In 2007, TWC becomes a public company traded on the S&P 500.
The first month of stock trading on the New York Stock Exchange, March 2007, had a high of 39.01

together due to the fact the Time Warner Cable was in the business of cable and Time Warner was in
the media and entertainment business. This was supposed to be a good fit in order to combine the
two into an entertainment business. The split was a decision based on the expansion of TWC. The
addition of internet and phone services made TWC a company that was not purely based on
entertainment anymore. With the split, the shareholders could decide which company best suited

Summer Employment Research Paper
My senior year of high school was quickly coming to an end, and I found myself looking for a job
for the summer. College cost go up every year and I knew that if I wanted extra spending money, I
would have to contribute. Summer employment is a great way to earn extra money plus, I am a
person who likes to stay busy, and I realized having a job during break would help accomplish both.
Having played multiple sports in high school, I was always doing something throughout my day and
I knew I couldn't have a job like lifeguarding where you have to sit and watch a pool for hours. I
enjoy always having a task to perform or a job to get done. Now that I knew I wanted to work, I

When the image of a spy headquarters comes to mind it usually prompts the shadowy corridors
filled with even more shadowy people, talking in hushed voices about the hottest assassination or

the JNI HQ in Poltaur, they would expect themselves to be in the company of priests or perhaps a

Creative Writing: A Midsummer-Personal Narrative
I keep having this dream, voices echoing a phrase, "what will be will be". Step by step, I stride
down the hallway leading from my bedroom towards the front door. The lights lining the hallway

the stairs and into the foyer, a glow leaks out from the kitchen around the white–bricked corner; I
can feel a force wrapping its arms around me, reeling me in like a big fish. The energy brings me
inside, into a moment all too familiar: a scene of adults gathered around the oak dining table in the

portions of red wine are being poured. An explosion of laughter camouflages my entrance to all but

Personal Narrative: Life After College
Life after College Most employers will not want to hire "college kids" fresh from college. It is all
about experience: how much experience one has or how little experience one has. Most employers
are looking for someone who already knows what they are doing, not someone who has to be taught
everything. Now, there are few employers who prefer people without experience because they can
be molded. Those kind of employers do not want someone with experience because they do things
differently. For example, I work at Subway. My boss would rather hire new people because he can
shape them into what he wants. We have had two people who worked at previous Subways, and it is
harder to train them in what he likes versus what they were taught. It confuses ... Show more content

An employer is not going to call someone who has average skill when there is someone with

employers make up their mind within the first five minutes on whether or not someone has the job.
A person needs to dress professional and be prepared for every possible question that can be asked.
According to Dave Ramsey, it is best to wear a navy blue to an interview. For women, it its best to

Impact Of Media On The Media
With the growth of technology, our use of media is greater than ever before. Without media, many of
us would have difficulty accomplishing our daily and nightly routines. Society has become
accustomed to using it for our education, work and relationships. But, we almost never stop and
question about the impact that the media can have on younger viewers and our society? In this paper
I will focus on the positive and negative roles that media has played on individuals and how mass
media has influenced the criminal justice policy. To begin, some might ask What is mass media?
Mass media is a large form of communication through various sources such as television, radio,
telecommunications, newspaper, magazines and the internet. "Media in its various forms is
omnipresent in modern life. It can shape our attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors in a variety of
ways. One arena in which the media can exert a variety of influences is the legal system. The media,
psychology, and the law intersect in a wide variety of contexts. Exposure to media, such as violent
video games and pornography, can increase legally relevant behaviors such as aggression and
criminal behaviors. Media can be used to facilitate or engage in criminal activity, such as
pedophiles' use of social media to access children and the use of the internet for cyberbullying."
(Groscup, 2015, pg. 314–315) To some extent, media is responsible for contributing negative
feelings among individuals that have been exposed to it. Studies have shown that early exposure to
malicious or violent films, books publishing vulgar adult content and news exposing horrendous
social practices has a long–lasting impact on younger viewers. If children are exposed to fight
sequences, stunt work, sex and/ or rape scenes, suicides and murders through the public media, they
are bound to leave damage on these young impressionable minds. Children aren't the only ones
subjected to these platforms, adults may also be impacted. Adults may be expected to have the
maturity to distinguish between the good and the bad, but when you bombard yourself with only the
bad it can affect one at the subconscious level. "The news media are not mirrors, simply reflecting
events in society...It has been

Colleen Dillaway is a Sales and Marketing director for Bright House Networks. She has over 15
years of experience managing, public relations, and sales channels. She has crisis–management
skills and media relations. She has a history working with ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX news.
Dillaway showed the class commercials for Bright House and explained the approaches that were
taken to reach different customers. I will apply the concepts Dillaway used and apply them to our
textbook. In chapter 13 Public Relations and Marketing is the main focus. Marketing is the process
of researching, creating, refining, and promoting a product or service and distributing that product or
service to targeted consumers (pg. 402–3). Public relations are the values–driven management of
relationships between an organization and the publics that can affect its success (pg.403). Dillaway
had to collect research to better understand how to gain and keep customers. In the process of her
research she was also able to better advertise Bright House services as well. For example, Dillaway
informed the class how Bright House created a commercial to aim directly at Bakersfield customers
in doing this the commercial was filmed here. Chapter 13 also defines advertising as controlled
media in an attempt to influence the actions of targeted publics. Going back to the Bakersfield
commercial, we can see the that the targeted publics was Bakersfield consumers. Miranda

The ABC ads were bright and humorous and they were a response to the steady decline of network
viewership. Since 1990 viewers have been turning away from the big four networks –– ABC, NBC,
CBS and FOX –– and instead watch more cable channels or watch less TV overall. ABC's statement
is that "television" is good; not "ABC" is good.
"A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll confirms that as the audience splinters, television's powerful
grip on the nation's collective psyche is weakening," reported The Journal on June 27, 1997. "To a
large extent, the network's loss has been cable TV's gain –– although some established cable
channels are losing viewers, too."
The poll indicated that 65 percent of TV households are watching less than they did five years ago.
The most popular reasons for turning off the tube include a dislike for commercials; competing
activities like work and exercise; lack of interesting programs; PCs and on–line services; and a
belief that TV is a bad influence on

Governments are cutting public sector staff, pensions and investment. Private sector firms are

The Future Is Online for Apparel Retailers
The Future is Online for Apparel Retailers
Euromonitor International 26 October 2011
Coming up with innovative ways to harness the huge potential of the internet is the biggest retail
challenge facing the apparel industry over the next five years. And at the core of the challenge is the
need for a fast, efficient and hassle–free returns service.
A tipping point for online apparel retailing
The practice of waiting in line for an available changing room to try on new clothes might one day
become a novelty rather than an unavoidable nuisance as apparel internet retailing enters a dynamic
new era of growth. Over the 2005–2010 period, global online sales of clothing and footwear
generated US$32 billion of incremental value, with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, H&M and Zara posted CAGRs (by US dollar value) of 12.5% and 11.8%, respectively,
over the 2005–2010 period. In contrast, independent apparel specialists have been losing share as
their smaller economies of scale are less able to absorb the negative pressures of rapidly rising
commodity costs and higher inflation. Even big–name fast fashion retailers have seen their sales
growth run out of steam in a number of developed markets. As a result, store–based investment in
the post–Lehman Brothers operating environment has focused heavily on building stronger positions
in China and other first–tier emerging markets.
Department stores face fierce competition from grocers
Not all chained apparel specialists have performed well over the recent period. For example, apparel
companies that run wholesale operations, as well as their own stores, have been vulnerable to the
sluggishness of department stores in developed markets. Esprit and Benetton, notably, have lost
market share ground. And Esprit in particular has been weakened by its overdependence on
developed markets.
Although department stores returned to growth globally in 2010, according to Euromonitor
International, the format remains vulnerable not only to the growth of fast fashion chains but also to
the growing apparel penetration of leading grocery retailers. For staple apparel items and
increasingly for on trend fashion styles too, the grocery

A Report On Web Design
Web Design
Greg Crotty
Report 1
In the following report I will give details on a few applications that you would use when you are
creating your website. I will explain what are the advantages and the disadvantages of each are and I
will give comparisons. There will also be some useful user recommendations.
Ok let's get started, first of all you need an application for creating a webpage and one that is widely
used and one that I have chosen is Dreamweaver. It is a basic enough program but there are more
advanced programmes out there. Being able to upload websites within seconds is very popular with
users. The code screen is also quite easy on the eye for people used to creating websites that is, it
could be a little daunting for newbies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Document sharing is also a useful tool, when you convert a Word document for example word 2016
into a Web page that authored content can be easily shared with others who may not have Word
installed or who are using a limited network connection that cannot support opening or downloading
a Word 2016 document in a Web browser. There is not many disadvantages that I can speak of. The
one main disadvantage might be that there could be functionality issues when looking at your ms
word file on a webpage and one minor issue with ms word documents is that only one user can edit
at any one time.
When coming up with ideas for a nice layout of your webpage then desktop publisher is probable a
good place to start. It offers smart attractive ideas on how a document is going to turn out when
adding pictures and text to you webpage. Newspapers and printing companies often use Microsoft
publisher to print their projects. As this is the case this software would only be used on a part time
basis for web design. The main disadvantage of desktop publisher would be the setup expense from
the computer down to the laser printer and software and the high end publisher software's are not
cheap. Also the users need a good knowledge of the software especially for job positions that use
desktop publisher on a daily basis. Another program which would be similar to Microsoft word is
the notepad application.

The Obligations Of An Eighteenth Century Merchant
So the obligations of an eighteenth century merchant were not only a financial consideration, but a
social contract between peers. Those who fell outside of this social order would quickly find
themselves cut off from the other members of their profession. This exclusion from the social
fraternity could effectively end a merchant house, so the majority of merchants observed these social
relationships with due diligence. Merchants began business ventures for a multitude of reasons;
travel, adventure, prestige, familial obligations and profit were all motivational factors. With this
diverse range of motivations, such a group could not sustain these newly formed capitalist networks
through the principles of profit alone. So it was this social framework, built on trust not profit
motive that constructed the initial trade networks that capitalism relied upon.
In taking a broad based Atlantic perspective to capitalism Haggerty demonstrated that in order to
understand the phenomenon historians will have to take an ever larger view of capitalist endeavors,
they will have to step beyond Atlantic perspectives into a global or even transnational look at the
subject.
This is exactly what Sven Beckert attempts in Empire of Cotton: A global History. Beckert take on
the study of capitalism by closely examining the evolution of a single ubiquitous commodity, cotton.
Taking the broadest possible perspective both geographically and chronologically, Beckert begins in
the Bronze Age and

Remote Type A: Fully functional. Buttons capable of changing channels and volume. Belongs to my
mother.
Remote Type B: Defunct. Buttons have far long forgotten how to serve their purpose. Belongs to my
father.
I remember the arrival of this TV in my house. A fine, summer day, a large cardboard box landed in
my parent's room. From behind unfurling gray of his cigarette puff, my father boasted, "It's a 51 cm
color television." It was an upgrade from the old, 13–inch black–and–white television I grew up
watching. With the new TV, I could savor the oranges, blues, and greens of the Powerpuff Girls on
Cartoon Network and marvel at the murky waters as the crocodile waded across the Amazon River
on National Geographic. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has defended against each of my father's onslaught, the deluge of his shoes and the rampant kicks
during his drunken stupor. You see, men display their power based on the number of things they can
break. My father prided himself on the number of things he could break: the watch on the walls of
my parent's room, the glasses on the kitchen counter, or my mother's teeth.
The TV in my house could drown out the anger of two screaming adults. It knew how to mask my
father's drunken slurs and my mother's silent tears. It could hide the shrieking wails of two young
children.
The TV in my house was also a battlefield as my parents fought over whether to turn it on or off.
With only two rooms, one where we could sleep and the other where we could cook and eat, my
parent's room also equals as my study room. As my father blasted the TV's volume, my mother
fought to keep it down. During my tests, my mother hid the only remote that controlled the TV and
made sure I could study for my tests in

Social Network Media Benefits Feminism
One specific event that proves that social network media benefits feminism was in 2014, with the
hashtag #YesAllWomen. An incident happened in May 2014 where a young man, Elliot Rodger,
expressed his hatred for women and he went on a shooting spree in Santa Barbara, California,
targeting women. After this tragedy made the news, thousands of women posted on various social
networks with the hashtag #YesAllWomen, in order to share the ways sexism and violence affects
everyone in their daily life. This hashtag trended all over social networking sites, particularly on
Twitter, for months after the event. (Chittal). Celebrities also took part in this trending hashtag and
showed their support for feminism, which initially promoted feminism as their substantial amount of
followers became informed on the hashtag as well. For example, famous actress and activist, Sophia
Bush posted on Twitter: "I shouldn't have to hold my car keys in hand like a weapon & check over
my shoulder every few seconds when I walk at night #YesAllWomen." Nancy Pelosi, Minority
Leader of the United States House of Representatives, posted on Twitter: "#YesAllWomen deserve
to live free from threats of domestic violence & sexual assault. We must shine a bright light on such
despicable crimes" (Feeney). #YesAllWomen was a way that women showed support for other
women and it fought against sexism and violence. This hashtag brought together diverse women and
it showed how strong of a presence feminism can have on a

  • 10. Fashion In The 1980's The 1980's is remembered for the "yuppie decade", materialism and consumerism. A yuppie symbolized the 1980's era. A yuppie is a baby boomer, that is college educated, has a well paying job, and a fancy taste. They are often associated as being materialistic and self–centered. The 1980's was an era of color, blockbuster, cable network, fashion, and overall a successful decade. The 80's was full of experimentation with crazy bright colors and hairstyles. Network neutrality has offered entrepreneurs the ability to start up a new business using the internet as a passage for advertising and gaining a customer base. It has allowed for individuals to surf the World Wide Web to read articles, look at photos and watch video's all from the convenience of their home or portable electronic device. While there are two sides to every coin, there are two opinions about the internet and whether it should be managed on the current net neutrality concept or a more tiered approach. • 14. Netflix Argumentative Essay At the turn of the millennium in 1999, the TiVo Corporation released the Digital Video Recorder or 'DVR' for short. This breakthrough in technology allowed millions of families across the globe to record a live TV show or movie and watch it at a time that was most convenient for them. With this new threat to movie rental stores such as Blockbuster Video, companies attempted to create new forms of media consumption to overstep their opponents. Due to this form of competition, Netflix Incorporated has beneficially altered the way that Americans consume entertainment and will continue to do so for years to come. When Netflix was started back in 1997, its purpose was to act simply as a DVD mailing service. Subscribers were allowed "an unlimited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If this example wasn't enough, the same phenomenon was again seen with the release of the show Daredevil. In the case of this show, the premiere which occurred on April 10 of 2015 saw "strong sampling, with an estimated 10.7% of subscribers watching at least one episode in its first 11 days on the streaming service" (Wallenstein 2). In all of these cases, the reasoning behind the writers and producers wanting to work with the company is beautifully articulated through a statement from Beau Willimon in regards to the message that Netflix first gave him that "We [Netflix] place our faith in you. Networks and Alliances Researchers have provided some evidence that companies relying on strategic network alliances are more profitable since closer buyer–supplier relationships may offer many technical, financial, and strategic advantages over spot market transactions and vertical integration (Mohr and Speckman, 1994). Furthermore, strategic alliances provide an effective alternative to improve economies of scale and scope. Different scholars have studied the antecedents that lead to different forms of network alliances. These studies suggest that assets type involved will impact the type of relationships (Dwyer, Schurr, and Oh, 1987). A different stream of research has studied the relationship between environmental uncertainty and resource interdependence with the nature of relationships. Handy, 1995; and Mohr and Spekman, 1994, have conducted empirical exploratory studies on the formation and evolution of inter–organizational relationships. They're All Mad Here: A Literary Comparison of "The Fall of the House of Usher" and "The Masque of the Red Death" Internationally known romantic author Edgar Allan Poe has always represented darkness, madness, and death in his stories. With these representations, Poe must provide this mood for the reader to become engulfed in the madness. In his tale "The Fall of the House of Usher," Poe uses descriptive details about the dull color and ruggedness of the house and the Ushers themselves to set a gloomy mood. He also describes in detail Roderick Usher's descent into madness and his fearfulness of death. In turn, he depicts brightly colored chambers in "The Masque of the Red Death," but the arrangement of colors provides a chaotic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This routine breaks when his twin sister Madeline "dies" and Roderick and the narrator entomb her within the house. The death of his sister causes Roderick to descend deeper into his own madness. He spends most of his time roaming "from chamber to chamber with hurried, unequal, and objectless step" and began neglecting the daily activities shared between him and the narrator (Poe). Due to the lack of social interaction between the two, literary expert Craig Howes believes the already mad Roderick now "draws the narrator into madness," (Howes). Now that Roderick has become less sociable with the narrator and there is one less person in the house, the narrator lacks the social interactions required by most humans. He feels uneasy about the "corpse" they have entombed and begins to fear the initial dark and gloom of the house itself both inside and out. Although Prince Prospero from "The Masque of the Red Death" has descended into madness just as much, if not more so, as Roderick Usher, his madness is represented in a different manner. Prospero's madness is fueled primarily by ignorance. He believes as long as he and his guests remain within the confines of the abbey, they will all be safe from the "Red Death." Due to this ignorance, within the abbey "there were buffoons, there were improvisatori, there were ballet– dancers, there were musicians, there was Beauty, there was wine. How Television Images Affect Children How Television Images Affect Children by Ron Kaufman "[A nursery school teacher told me] her children were crudely bopping each other much more than previously, without provocation. When she remonstrated with them, they would protest, "But that 's what the Three Stooges do." This attitude did not signify a serious undermining of character. But it certainly showed me that watching violence can lower a child 's standards of behavior. Recent psychological experiments have shown that watching brutality stimulates at least slight cruelty in adults, too." –– Dr. Benjamin Spock, from the book Baby and Child Care, 1968 Fifty–seven percent of television programs contain "psychologically harmful" violence, according to a study funded by the cable television industry. The study, released February 7, 1996, tracked 2,500 hours of television programming. This was the largest sample ever analyzed by researchers. Oh, that 's ridiculous! Television is not harmful, it 's just entertainment. But can the steady flow of images watched nightly from television screens across the country be so easily dismissed as simply entertainment? If the sheer volume of absorbed images is considered, how can what is shown on television have no effect on one 's own mental images? It is an oil on canvas painting painted in 1884. The dimensions of the painting are 46 1/8 x 38 3/8 inches. This piece was painted to depict abolitionist martyr John Brown being taken to his execution in Charlestown, Virginia, on December 2, 1859. The piece is currently located at the De Young Museum in San Francisco, California and its original location is at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The baby is wearing a bright blue jacket while the mother is wearing a red bandanna and yellowish dress. His use of bright colors to illustrate this little family along with John Brown giving his blessing to the baby communicates to us that there is a bright future ahead for them. The contour lines of the painting are drawn strong and hard, isolating each figure. The lines in the painting are mainly vertical. The majority of the people are all standing up, the soldiers weapons are pointed upward, and the pillars are painted tall. The vertical lines communicates a sense of heighten spirituality. Also, if you look closely behind John Brown, the artist manipulates the lines of the building to put a cross–shaped figure right above his head. The combination of these two factors gives us the feeling that Thomas Hovenden was trying to portray John Brown as a Christ–like Martyr heading to his crucifixion. The lighting of the picture is very natural and comforting. The artist painted the setting to be a bright sunny day. The execution of a person should be a sad, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Creative Writing: A Midsummer-Personal Narrative I keep having this dream, voices echoing a phrase, "what will be will be". Step by step, I stride down the hallway leading from my bedroom towards the front door. The lights lining the hallway are burning, but reserved in their efforts, and I move more off instinct than clarity of vision. Down the stairs and into the foyer, a glow leaks out from the kitchen around the white–bricked corner; I can feel a force wrapping its arms around me, reeling me in like a big fish. The energy brings me inside, into a moment all too familiar: a scene of adults gathered around the oak dining table in the rear of the room. Chet Baker's trumpet whispers out the blues from the corner stereo, and generous portions of red wine are being poured. An explosion of laughter camouflages my entrance to all but one. ... They are bright red from the side affects of mixing laughter and booze. A raucous voice shouts, "Mikey!" bringing the party to an abrupt pause. Bzz. I glance up and down the table, looking for her, and my palms begin to sweat. The heat from the fireplace is roaring, and the branches within crack like knuckles. Bzz. "Where's mom?" I ask them. Muffled chuckles ensue, and they all look around aimlessly, as if waiting for a punch line. Bzz Bzz. "JULIE!" one of the men howls, "there's a gentleman here who needs directions". Bzzzzz. I have never been really fully conscious as to how quick and short commercials really are, but after viewing this 30 minute show it was brought to my attention that commercials can't be too long because they need to be able to hold your attention and in the short span of time it needs to be something that will catch a viewer's eye. It is all about experience: how much experience one has or how little experience one has. Most employers are looking for someone who already knows what they are doing, not someone who has to be taught everything. Now, there are few employers who prefer people without experience because they can be molded. Those kind of employers do not want someone with experience because they do things differently. For example, I work at Subway. My boss would rather hire new people because he can shape them into what he wants. • 56. Impact Of Media On The Media With the growth of technology, our use of media is greater than ever before. Without media, many of us would have difficulty accomplishing our daily and nightly routines. Society has become accustomed to using it for our education, work and relationships. But, we almost never stop and question about the impact that the media can have on younger viewers and our society? In this paper I will focus on the positive and negative roles that media has played on individuals and how mass media has influenced the criminal justice policy. To begin, some might ask What is mass media? Mass media is a large form of communication through various sources such as television, radio, telecommunications, newspaper, magazines and the internet. "Media in its various forms is omnipresent in modern life. It can shape our attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors in a variety of ways. One arena in which the media can exert a variety of influences is the legal system. The media, psychology, and the law intersect in a wide variety of contexts. Exposure to media, such as violent video games and pornography, can increase legally relevant behaviors such as aggression and criminal behaviors. Media can be used to facilitate or engage in criminal activity, such as pedophiles' use of social media to access children and the use of the internet for cyberbullying." (Groscup, 2015, pg. 314–315) To some extent, media is responsible for contributing negative feelings among individuals that have been exposed to it. Studies have shown that early exposure to malicious or violent films, books publishing vulgar adult content and news exposing horrendous social practices has a long–lasting impact on younger viewers. If children are exposed to fight sequences, stunt work, sex and/ or rape scenes, suicides and murders through the public media, they are bound to leave damage on these young impressionable minds. Children aren't the only ones subjected to these platforms, adults may also be impacted. Adults may be expected to have the maturity to distinguish between the good and the bad, but when you bombard yourself with only the bad it can affect one at the subconscious level. She has over 15 years of experience managing, public relations, and sales channels. She has crisis–management skills and media relations. She has a history working with ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX news. Dillaway showed the class commercials for Bright House and explained the approaches that were taken to reach different customers. I will apply the concepts Dillaway used and apply them to our textbook. In chapter 13 Public Relations and Marketing is the main focus. Marketing is the process of researching, creating, refining, and promoting a product or service and distributing that product or service to targeted consumers (pg. 402–3). Public relations are the values–driven management of relationships between an organization and the publics that can affect its success (pg.403). Dillaway had to collect research to better understand how to gain and keep customers. In the process of her research she was also able to better advertise Bright House services as well. For example, Dillaway informed the class how Bright House created a commercial to aim directly at Bakersfield customers in doing this the commercial was filmed here. Chapter 13 also defines advertising as controlled media in an attempt to influence the actions of targeted publics. Going back to the Bakersfield commercial, we can see the that the targeted publics was Bakersfield consumers. Miranda Whitworth is the Marketing Manager for Kern Federal ... Television reflected only people's surfaces; it also kept peeling their images from their bodies until they were sucked into the caverns of their viewers' eyes, forever beyond retrieval, to disappear. Since 1990 viewers have been turning away from the big four networks –– ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX –– and instead watch more cable channels or watch less TV overall. ABC's statement is that "television" is good; not "ABC" is good. "A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll confirms that as the audience splinters, television's powerful grip on the nation's collective psyche is weakening," reported The Journal on June 27, 1997. "To a large extent, the network's loss has been cable TV's gain –– although some established cable channels are losing viewers, too." The poll indicated that 65 percent of TV households are watching less than they did five years ago. Even big–name fast fashion retailers have seen their sales growth run out of steam in a number of developed markets. As a result, store–based investment in the post–Lehman Brothers operating environment has focused heavily on building stronger positions in China and other first–tier emerging markets. Ok let's get started, first of all you need an application for creating a webpage and one that is widely used and one that I have chosen is Dreamweaver. It is a basic enough program but there are more advanced programmes out there. Being able to upload websites within seconds is very popular with users. The code screen is also quite easy on the eye for people used to creating websites that is, it could be a little daunting for newbies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is not many disadvantages that I can speak of. The one main disadvantage might be that there could be functionality issues when looking at your ms word file on a webpage and one minor issue with ms word documents is that only one user can edit at any one time. When coming up with ideas for a nice layout of your webpage then desktop publisher is probable a good place to start. It offers smart attractive ideas on how a document is going to turn out when adding pictures and text to you webpage. Newspapers and printing companies often use Microsoft publisher to print their projects. As this is the case this software would only be used on a part time basis for web design. The main disadvantage of desktop publisher would be the setup expense from the computer down to the laser printer and software and the high end publisher software's are not cheap. • 74. The Obligations Of An Eighteenth Century Merchant So the obligations of an eighteenth century merchant were not only a financial consideration, but a social contract between peers. Those who fell outside of this social order would quickly find themselves cut off from the other members of their profession. This exclusion from the social fraternity could effectively end a merchant house, so the majority of merchants observed these social relationships with due diligence. Merchants began business ventures for a multitude of reasons; travel, adventure, prestige, familial obligations and profit were all motivational factors. With this diverse range of motivations, such a group could not sustain these newly formed capitalist networks through the principles of profit alone. So it was this social framework, built on trust not profit motive that constructed the initial trade networks that capitalism relied upon. In taking a broad based Atlantic perspective to capitalism Haggerty demonstrated that in order to understand the phenomenon historians will have to take an ever larger view of capitalist endeavors, they will have to step beyond Atlantic perspectives into a global or even transnational look at the subject. This is exactly what Sven Beckert attempts in Empire of Cotton: A global History. Beckert take on the study of capitalism by closely examining the evolution of a single ubiquitous commodity, cotton.
