A Brief Background
Nawabshah is a city in the District of
Shaheed Benazir Abad, in Sindh.
Shaheed Benazir Abad is basically a
fertile agricultural region. The significant
crops of this city are sugarcane, mango
and banana.

5. A brief background The region of Nawabshah is established by Syed
family in 1907 century who donated land of 200
acres to the British Rulers for a railway station.
It is named after Nawabshah, who belong to this
noble family of Syed,and given status of tehsil in
1907. The town originally called Nusrat.
The area was a part of Hyderabad before 1912
and was considered an unfamiliar and smallest
town.
In 1912 British Rulers upgraded the town to
given status of district.
At the establishment of the district in 1912,
the seven talukas were included in this district.

The district was renamed in September 2008 when most of the MPAs
of Nawabshah demanded the district be renamed to honor the late
party leader.
The renaming of the district was criticized by the family of Syed
Nawabshah and others who, while saddened at the death of Bhutto, felt
that Nawabshah was a historic district and ought to have kept its name.

The District lies between 25°59”-27°15” north latitudes
and 67°52”-58°54” east longitudes; in the heart of Sindh.
It has Naushahro Feroze and Khairpur districts on the
north, on the west bounded by Indus River, Jamshoro and
Dadu districts, on the east by Sanghar and on the south by
Matiari district. It covers an area of about 4,665 Sq. kms
with four talukas named Nawabshah, Sakrand, Qazi
Ahmad and Daur. Nawabshah Town is the district
headquarter town of the district.
Indus is the only river of the district which runs along the
western boundary of the district for about 90 kilometers. There
are no other rivers in the district but a nallah from river Indus to
Sakrand. Roughly whole of the district except eastern portion of
Nawabshah taIuka, which is a desert is suitable to produce
crops

Nawabshah Town has recently gone through a development
phase, where various institutional expansions are developed
in past 5 years from 2013.
The recently developed Nawabshah- Qazi Ahmed Road, and
Nawabshah-Sakrand Road are hub of Low Density Sprawl
and catering major population to act as pull for inward
growth of population. Total area of the town covers 4239 sq.km
with the density of 240/sq.km. Nawabshah town gets its
growth from 2004 to 2017 in between two major roads,
Sakrand road and shahpur chakar road by its reformation
of two major housing societies like: Quaid-e-awam colony
on Shaheed Bhutto road and airport road. The city extended
in three directions constantly i.e. northern part, southern
part and western part of town area. Town’s spatial growth
during last 10 years shows that town spread at 58% in its
built up area.The city grew mainly in north-south and
east-west directions. Nawabshah town’s center builds up along

LAND USE AND SPATIAL EXPANSION:
The built-up area of Nawabshah town comprises of around 8,174 acres of land which is 38.4% of the total area as compared to consultant’s urban boundary which is
21,296 acres. The land use analysis indicates that almost 52% of total urban boundary area is in use of residential purpose only. 42.5% of the area is covered by
agriculture fields.

11. Zone 1:
Zone 1 contains Nawabshah Junction (railway Station). It comprises of high density residential areas
consisting of various housing colonies like Santa Singh colony, Ghareebabad, Daulat Colony etc. This zone
also contains Liaquat Market, Mohini Bazaar and other Bazaars. Thus it is the highly compact zone of the
city.
Zone 2:
This zone is characterized by presence of heavy industries, new development and agriculture. In heavy
industries Habib Sugar Mill private Ltd. is the big name. The new housing development is going through at
the expense of agricultural land parcels.
Zone 3:
This zone seems to be a planned area of Public Administration, Recreational, Educational and Health
Institutions. It includes major landmarks like DC Office, Session Court, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University,
Peoples University of Medical and Health Sciences for Women (PUMHSW), Bilawal Sports Stadium,
Gymkhana. Thus this could be referred as the CBD of the town.
Zone 4:
Most of the future development is being carrying out in this zone. Other than new housing potential it
also contains new Nawabshah Hospital for Mother and Child Care, Shaheed Benazir Public School and an
old abandoned Dry Port.
Zone 5:
This zone is an Industrial cum Educational Zone. It has small Industries such as Ginning factory, cotton
factory, chemi visco fibre and oil mills. Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science & Technology
Nawabshah (Q.U.E.S.T) also exist in this zone, on both sides of Sakrand Nawabshah Road.
Zone 6:
It is an exclusive zone comprises of the existing airport and related activities. This zone seems to be have
some restrictions regarding new development and high rise buildings due to the presence of airport.

13. About half a million people of Nawabshah are forced to drink contaminated water in the presence of Asia’s largest
water filtration plant. The contaminated water is becoming main source of spreading diseases like typhoid,
hepatitis, diarrhoea, and other waterborne diseases. The Asia’s largest water filtration plant was installed during
the tenure of Asif Ali Zardari at a cost of Rs1.5 billion in order to provide clean and potable water to the citizens of
Nawabshah. The facility has a capacity to filter 14 million gallons of water on daily basis.

15. Solid waste management
urban areas of Shaheed Benazir Abad generated total waste quantity of 87,989
kg/day with estimation for the year 2020 as 126,246 kg/day. The total and estimated collection efficiency was found as 75%.
MC is officially responsible for the entire solid waste management of the district under the directives of SSWMB. At present SSWMB has directed the municipal
committees for identification of land for Garbage Transfer Stations and Landfills so that garbage collection and transfer & transport operations can be handed over
to SSWMB for effective management of solid waste

1. DELEL DERO:
Dalel Dero Fort is situated in District Shaheed Benazirabad, via
Sarkrand-Nawabshah link road. The walls of the fort are made by
mud bricks and mud mortar covered with fired bricks. Presently, the
fort is in possession of the villagers, the tourist can visit the fort with
prior information.

1. Mausoleum of Thul Mir Rukan:
This is a Buddhist stupa in Daulatpur, some 15 kilometres (9 miles) south of the city. It has four stages, each smaller
than the one below, and is topped with a dome. The tiers are divided by string courses and are embellished with
pilasters at intervals. This historical and archaeological mausoleum is 60 feet tall.

1. SHAHEED BENAZIR BHUTTO MESEUM AND ART GALLERY:
In April 2008, the city administration of Nawabshah created a museum to house Nawabshah's artworks and photographs. The
museum's major attraction is a gallery depicting culture, as well as a gallery where radio sets and gramophones are shown,
demonstrating the locals' passion for art. Sansar Samachar, a newspaper from February 18, 1938, is also on display.

TOMB OF MIAN NOOR M KALHORO:
This mausoleum is located near Nawabshah, approximately 9 kilometres west of Moro town. Except for a stretch of one
furlong near the tomb that is "Katcha," the approach to the tomb along a metalled road is pretty excellent. The tomb is
enclosed by a rectangular walled enclosure with a single domed entrance on the eastern side. The inside and outside of
the almost 8-foot-high wall are covered with typical arched recessed panels.
