Ernest Everett Just
Ernest Everett Just, an African American biologist, was born on August 14, 1883 in Charleston, South Carolina to Charles Frazier Just Jr. and Mary
Matthews Just, who gave birth to a stillborn child and both a boy and a girl before Just was born, making Just the youngest of three children. Sadly,
however, both of his older siblings died approximately two months after he was born due to disease. His father, Charles Just Jr. died of alcoholism
when Just turned four and his widowed mother was left to care for them alone. Determined, Just's mother, Mary Matthews Just, purchased several acres
of land and founded Maryville, which was known for creating "one of the first black town governments in the state and became a model for blacks

In 1915, Just became the first recipient of the NAACP 's Spingarn Medal, which is a prestigious award given to a person of African descent who
had "performed the foremost service to his race." Just was elected to the American Society of Naturalists and the American Society of Zoologists. In
1930, he became "the first American to be invited to the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute in Berlin, Germany, where several Nobel Prize winners conducted
research." He gave a detailed account of his experiments in scientific journals in three countries including Germany, Italy, and France. He became "the
world's leading expert on fertilization of the egg, the beginning of every life in the animal world," and earned a new title as the "scientist's scientist,"
given to him by his colleagues. He made fairly significant breakthroughs in specific areas of science that would include the role of environmental
factors in development; "he investigated the effect of a number of variables – dilute or concentrated sea water, ultraviolet irradiation, temperature,
hydration or dehydration– on embryo development." He observed "the 'wave of negativity' that sweeps over the egg cell at the onset of fertilization
envelope separation, preventing fertilization by more than one spermatozoon" and "correctly reasoned that it was this wave, not the physical separation
of the envelope, that is

Swot Analysis Of Starbucks
Introduction 2008 was the start of the Great Recession. Up until that point, many were enjoying the finer things in life as the economy grew at a fast
pace, and many began to live beyond their means. What began with the burst of the housing bubble, this ubiquitous event affected all facets of the
economy to include massive job losses which caused sharp cutbacks in consumer spending (Economic Policy Institute, n.d.). Consumers were forced to
change their everyday way of life to include cutting out "luxury" items, such as Starbucks coffee. It is well known that coffee is a generally cheap
commodity that is often served complementary. However, Starbucks made its millions on creating a brand, which is defined as an "entity that engenders

Schultz's vision and direction was "reigniting the emotional attachment with customers" (Husain, Khan, & Mirza, 2014). In order to do this, Schultz's
plan was to reconnect with the customer and its partners (Starbucks refers to its employees as its "partners"), allowing them to express their views and
ideas through technology using social media. This plan fostered an environment of passion and involvement of the community. In order to embark on
this initiative and attempt to return to its brand, Starbucks approached the initiative with a transformational and authentic leadership style, teamwork,
and renewed organizational structure.
Leadership Style There are many leadership styles that can be employed to be effective in business. Examples of these include but are not limited to
autocratic, democratic, laissez–faire, path–goal theory, bureaucratic, transformational, transactional, charismatic, authentic, servant, etc., all of which
have their own attributes and limitations (Mindtool Editorial Team, n.d.). In some cases a combination of leadership styles are combined for a desired
outcome. In the case of Howard Schultz, a combination of transformational and authentic leadership was used (Coulson, 2016).
Transformational leaders inspire their team members because they expect the best from everyone, and they hold themselves accountable for their
actions. They set clear goals, and they have good conflict–resolution skills. This leads to high productivity and

Not Just Minor Characters In April Morning, By Howard Fast
Not Just Minor Characters Pop! Ping! Bang! These are the sounds that rang throughout the morning of April 19th, 1775, in Lexington, Massachusetts.
Howard Fast writes in the book April Morning about the day of the Battle of Lexington through the eyes of Adam Cooper, but Adam is not the only
important character in this story. Granny Cooper, Sarah Cooper, and Ruth Simmons do not seem to have a major role, but they are not just minor
characters. GrannyCooper is the mother of Moses Cooper and the grandmother of Adam Cooper. Even though Granny never picked up a gun the entire
book, she is still a very important character within the story. Fast writes in April Morning that Adam makes the comment, "My own opinion was that
Granny could win hands down in any argument, but she would not argue with her son in front of his own children." Adam means that Granny Cooper

She is always shown in the role of a housewife. She does not grow over the course of the book. She is the wife of Moses Cooper and the mother of
Adam Cooper. In April Morning, Fast writes, "I don't see how it gives her the right to talk to you the way she down. You're a grown man, not a
boy." (pg 46). Sarah conveys that she does not approve of the way Granny Cooper talks to Moses Cooper. She is defensive of her husband's pride. She
also seems annoyed that her mother–in–law talks that way to her husband like he is a child, not a grown man. After Sarah discovers that Moses is
dead, she is very upset. "If I don't appear just the same –I mean the way you think about me as your mother –today and even tomorrow, you understand
–." (Fast pg 195). Sarah is in shock that her husband is dead. She has never had this happen to her, so she does not know how to process her
emotions. She tells Adam that she may not be able to act as his mother right now, because she is mourning Moses. Sarah Cooper is painted as a static
character and she does not change over the course of the

The internet is one of the most dynamic inventions in the history of mankind. It spreads knowledge and allows for rapid communication amongst
untold numbers of people on a scale previously unimaginable. It has revolutionized countless aspects of the modern world, ranging from its effects on
business practices and the economy to creating new forms of leisure activities and educational content. The multitude of ways the internet has affected

Dean trailed in the polls miserably, garnering support that was typically less than the margin of error. But Dean was a unique candidate. Part of his
appeal was that he was not a traditional polished politician, but was an "outsider" to the political game. The Dean campaign was not getting much
media coverage (Trippi called them "dismissive"). The Dean camp felt the only way to succeed was to bypass the traditional means of building a
campaign and "appeal directly to the American people" (Rampton, 2004).
Joe Trippi brought with him a background of working for dot–coms in Silicon Valley, giving him significant exposure to the web. He noticed that while
Dean trailed in the polls, the social networking portal Meetup.com (where users group up on a specific topic and propose meeting times at local
venues) had 432 members for the Howard Dean group, more than any other political candidate. Trippi put a link to the Meetup.com portal on the Dean
campaign site–membership leapt to 2,700, while the next closest Democratic candidate, John Kerry, had only 330 members (Rampton, 2004). These
numbers would continue to grow: in January of 2004, just before the Iowa caucuses, Dean boasted 177,000 people registered

He has developed and promoted a strategic vision from the beginning: to make Starbucks "the most respected brand name in coffee and for the
company to be admired for its corporate responsibility." Two key values that supported this vision were "to build a company with a soul" and to
pursue "the perfect cup of coffee." Simple phrases, but they have given direction to a highly successful enterprise!
1.2.2 Setting the objectives as standards for measuring the company 's performance and evolution
Thompson, et al (2005: 26) states that the managerial purpose of setting objectives is to convert the strategic vision into specific performance targets
В– results and outcomes the management wants to achieve В– and then use these objectives as yardsticks for tracking the company 's performance and
progress.
When Schultz became CEO of Starbuck 's they had a total of nine stores. He 's objectives included opening 125 new stores in five years – 15 in year
one, 20 the second year, 25 the third year, 30 the fourth year, and 35 in the fifth year. This they achieved with huge success and had 161 stores open
compared to the 125 envisaged in the original objectives.
After suffering losses in the first years of expansion Schultz set further objectives which included:
1.Attract a management team beyond Starbucks expansion needs
2.Build a world–class roasting facility
3.Acquire a sophisticated information system to

Decreasing the Wait Time for Cafeteria Food at Howard...
In my proposal plan I recommend that the average wait time at each food station in the cafГ© be decreased, especially during high rush hour time
for example during the lunch and dinner rushes. We can help reduce the time by having servers make up pre portioned plates that way students can
grab and go instead of wait in a line for upwards of thirty minutes for cold food. We can also have different food options added that serve different
options because as of now the food lines operate on a schedule with the same food options every week. Another recommendation would to be expanded
the cafeteria as a whole. As of now Howard University as roughly 10,000 undergraduate students, the cafeteria can barely hold 800 students
comfortably. This will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I also learned that during peak hours of operation at both cafeterias the same amounts of workers are on duty, to deal with the mass volumes of
students. Students find that when they receive their meals the food is often cold which is a health concern when food is not properly heated. This can
cause other concerns for student health for example food poisoning, which I reluctantly got from eating food from the Howard university cafeteria.
Some of the alternatives that I propose are to increase the amount of workers during rush hour times to decrease the wait time. Also increase food
options in what is Howard's food court "Punch Out," Determining what changes to the current system that will be most effective above will have to be
analyzed in a most cost effective way.
To asses the current situation at the annex and Blackburn cafeteria, I would like to use a simulation or decision–making model to see if my proposal
would be a particle plan. The simulations will what we do not know as opposed to the information we already know. The simulations will allow us to
test what effect a change will have on the current system of reaching out in the community around Howard University while also fixing the problem
internally. The model relies on the strength of the opinions of the student body and faculty members on the practicality of the situation. It will replicate

April Morning By Howard Fast Analysis
"A redcoat soldier raised his musket, leveled it at Father, and fired" (Fast 100). April Morning is written by Howard Fast and takes place on April
17th, 1775 at the start of the revolutionary war in Lexington, Massachusetts. Moses Cooper is a major character and also the antagonist to Adam
because he and Adam are always fighting and Moses doesn't let Adam grow up. Although Moses was hard to understand, he was an affectionate,
opinionated and respected man. Moses and affection do not go hand and hand and its only sometimes when he says he loves Adam. "Hate him!" My
father exploded. "Of all the crazy notions! Of all the idiotic ideas! There a boy, my first–born son – why how could any man love a son any more than I
love that boy? Now where could he have gotten an idea as unreasonable as that" (Fast 45)? Moses is now realizing how Adam feels about him and
although Moses does not say he loves him outright, Adam hears him and has a new perspective of his dad. Moses realizes that his words have a
bigger impact on Adam than he thinks. "Come to think about it, I have been hard on the boy. That... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adam Cooper describes him as very argumentative. He had strong feelings towards people who held slaves and thought they were some of the
worst people. "My father, on the other hand, held that slavers were the lowest form of life existents on earth, the devil in the flesh, the Haman of
our time" (Fast 33). Moses uses many descriptive words show how he feels and he has opinions just as strong about how to handle the British. "We
have a position and principles... and if they do come and see that we stand firm with some show of force, why, then they'll respect us" (Fast 74). The
last thing Moses wanted to do was to fight the British, he didn't believe in fighting and thought the town could just talk the British out of war. Using
his strong opinions, Moses became a very respected person in his

3. Male leaders put tasks before relationships Men are considered to set tasks before relationships, while women on the other hand are more people–
oriented and focus more on establishing interpersonal relationships. They are warmer and softer compared to their male counterparts.
4. Male leaders are more inclined to an authoritative style
Male leaders more frequently operate in mediums bound by hierarchy, status, rules and orders. In contrast, women normally function with connectivity
and closeness as paramount. For women, status and hierarchy are not key and women are not predisposed to giving orders, but rather express
preferences and suggestions which are likely accepted.
5. Male leaders communicate "to–the–point"
Male leaders usually keep it short and sweet. No personal talk, just down to business and go. Female leaders on the other hand talk on a more personal
note while addressing subordinates.
According to Rolf GranГ©r there are general scattered attitudes which make men and women function differently (GranГ©r, 1994). Those attitudes are
the following:
Male properties| Female properties| Result oriented| Relation oriented| Logical| Intuitive| Independent| Dependent| Focused on competition|
Cooperativeness| Restrained| Emotional| Investigating| Caring| Selfish| Understanding| Powerful| Soft| Bold| Careful|

The World War 2 Rotary Wing Aviation
At the close of World War 2 rotary–wing aviation began its transition into a so–called "renaissance" period. New and exciting advancements were being
made to give new aircraft greater stability and range. After many demonstrations on exactly what an aircraft could do, the United States Army decided
to adopt rotary wing aircraft to fill a search and rescue (SAR) role initially. During the Korean War, medical evacuations and search and rescue
missions took up the majority of missions for our pilots. However, we were very limited in what we could achieve. The technology was primitive in
using piston driven engines along with heavier parts than necessary. Seeing how useful slow moving aircraft were to our forces, Army Aviation leaders

As the title suggested, the program goal was to stock a dedicated light–class, rotary–wing system with a multipurpose battlefield role. The helicopter
would be called upon to undertake various missions including that of SAR, MEDEVAC, observation, transport, reconnaissance, escort, Close Air
Support (CAS) and direct attack. (p.1)
During the Korean War, our internal rotary–winged aviation assets were performing duties in a very limited role. Although used extensively and often,
the majority of missions that took place were either lift oriented, medical evacuation and in some cases reconnaissance. The helicopter most suited for
this role at the time was the Bell H–13 Sioux. The H–13 saw its first flight on 8 December 1945, and marked the first large–scale procurement of a
helicopter by the United States Army, being utilized from 1948 onwards. While great for its time, the H–13 was very limited in what it could achieve. It
was originally fitted with a piston driven engine. Eventually it would be upgraded to a turbine engine; however the frame was still heavy and even the
upgraded turbine engine didn't make up for the lack of lift being generated by its measly two–bladed rotor system. To say it bluntly, it was overweight
and underpowered, and we wanted something better.
With Technical Specification 153 released, civilian companies immediately started building and presenting concepts to secure the

Starbucks 's Mission Statement Of Starbucks
Starbucks All around the globe people have either purchased a coffee or have heard of the coffee chain Starbucks. As the #1 coffee house chain in the
world, with just over 19,700 stores, Starbucks has managed to stay at the top of their game with reinventing themselves and how they do business.
Whether that is due to the change in leadership, structure or cultural change, this chain has surpassed the market place by overpowering the second
place Dunkin Donuts by almost 8,000 stores worldwide. Nothing seems to slow down this powerhouse and they have the numbers to prove just that.
The company has spent decades growing only the best for their franchise. Starbucks has included "Our mission: to inspire and nurture the human spirit
– one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time" (Jurevivius, "Mission Statement of Starbucks"). How is it that one chain can take the world by
storm? Within every company, there is always a need for a multitude of structures such as organization and control. Without defining how the company
will run and who will run each portion, this global giant could crash. The structures contain everyone within Starbucks from the individual branch
employees and supervisors to the presidents and CEO. Each team member has an important role and should take that role with respect and passion.
Each structure set forth determines the modes in which Starbucks will operate and perform. Like any other chain, Starbucks has placed an organizational

Character Of Joseph Simmons In April Morning By Howard Fast
April Morning by Howard Fast takes place near Lexington, Massachusetts, on the verge of the American Revolution. The story takes just a day,
which is on April 18th, 1775. One person who stands out in the story is Joseph Simmons; he is a man vs. society individual. Joseph has many traits
to describe him, but the three main ones are nice, brave, and strong. Joseph can be described as being nice. One example is when the committee had
appointed him to write a statement on the rights of man, to which they would all put their names, and which would be posted to Boston. In Adam's
opinion, "Joseph was a nice enough man, but when it came to the fine points of disputation, he simply wasn't there." (20) This shows that even
though Joseph was a poor choice to speak in front of the committee, he was nice enough to do it. Another example is when everyone was making a
plan to prevent the war; Cousin Simmons came and comforted Adam. "Cousin Simmons came to me and put an arm around my shoulder. 'It's a long
night, Adam. 'he smiled." (89) From both these examples, it is clear that Joseph is always a nice person.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is apparent when Joseph came to the center of the common to go against the British. "At the same time, Cousin Simmons came from another
direction, carrying an iron torch with a pitch cup at the top of it." (82) This shows that Joseph is brave enough to show up and be prepared for
anything. In addition, while Cousin Simmons and Adam were walking, they saw three men that had stripped a dead corpse of his musket and
equipment, and now they were pulling his boots and jacket off. "Simmons chases away the corpse robbers, yet when Adam is ready to go home, to
'live and let live.'" (147) For these reasons, Joseph is

Freedom Road by Howard Fast
Freedom Road is book written by the renowned novelist Howard Fast. Fast has written many novels including Citizen Tom Paine, Spartacus and

of this affiliation. This did not deter Fast from utilizing his creative abilities in writing novels. He wrote his most famous novel Spartacus while
incarcerated. Howard Fast died on March12, 2003. Freedom Road follows the life of a former slave named Gideon Jackson during the Reconstruction

Management Theories Of Starbucks
"We are not in the coffee business, serving people. We are in the people business, serving coffee", Howard Schultz's philosophy has shaped and
continues shape Starbucks, the world's number one specialty coffee retailer with over 21,000 outlets in more than 65 countries nowadays (Starbucks,

Starbucks Corporation. Starbucks, as everyone knows, is the leader of coffee retailers in the world today. Despite the competitiveness in the market,
Starbucks has still been the best and most famous company among those coffee companies. Success of Starbucks is due to its application of the

April Morning Howard Fast Quotes
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be in the middle of the start of a war? This book takes place just before the beginning of the
Revolutionary war in Lexington, Massachusetts. The Reverend is the minister to the people who live there and is a dynamic character as well as
one of the main protagonists. War has an effect on everyone involved, and usually brings out sides of people we do not normally see. In the book
April Morning by Howard Fast, this is evident in the Reverend's character before conflict, during conflict, and after the conflict. Throughout the
book, you can see changes in the Reverend. From the beginning, it is obvious that he is both a leader to the townspeople, and that he is a peaceful
man. The main example of him being a leader comes right before the British arrive at Lexington. In the book, the people gathered and elected him as
their spokesperson to the soldiers (Fast 90). The people usually turn to their leaders in times of need much like we do today, and in this example that

Towards the end of the book the Reverend states, "We are a town of sorrow and tragedy–and it happened too quickly" (Fast 198). This quote explains
how he feels about the conflict after it is over. The way he describes the town shows that he feels sorrow for all the losses. The Reverend, although
sad, still carries on his duties and remains a caring man. An example of his characteristic as a caring man occurs when he agrees to use the candles
Adam's mother had delivered to him in order to help her cope with the tragedies that had occurred (Fast 198) This shows that even when he had been
through so much himself, he was still looking after others. These are the last traits we observe the Reverend having and it becomes clear that while he

Analysis Of April Morning By Howard Fast
Children always think they are old enough to do whatever they please no matter what age they are. They think they have it hard living the life
they do so, think about how it was back in 1775. In the book April Morning, by Howard Fast, there was a fifteen year old boy named Adam,
growing up in a colonial village in Lexington, Massachusetts. Adam believed his father, Mosses, didn't love him. He could never do anything right
and he just wanted to prove that he was a man. He did all of this in one day on April 19th, 1775. Adam just wants to be accepted by his father so, he
signs up for the army. Throughout the book he changes from a child, to a soldier, and finally into a man.
Before Adam can become a man he has to prove to his family and others that he truly is one. To do so, he has to find a way to show the will to work
and speak his mind. Adam has the features of a man but, just because he is as tall as one doesn't mean he acts like one. Mosses always criticizes
Adam and is very hard on him to the point where Adam doesn't believe he is loved by his dad. Just before dinner he goes and talks to granny about
his father and what to do about it. "Granny acts shocked by the question, Adam asks her why his parents criticize him for everything he does,"
(Novelguide Editors). The way Adam lives his life is terrible to him he just wants his parents to understand that he is capable of doing the same things a
man does. Judgment is the only thing he thinks he's getting from his parents

Role Of Minor Characters In April Morning By Howard Fast
Can one day really turn a boy into a man? The novel April Morning, written by Howard Fast is about a boy Living in prewar America. He changes
throughout the novel in just one day. This change would not have happened if it were not for the minor characters of the novel. Minor characters may
not have the biggest role in a story, but they help shape the main character of a story. Levi Cooper, the childish and scared little brother, Granny Cooper,
the wise and loving grandmother, and Ruth Simmons the sassy but very caring, loving interest, are the minor characters' help change Adam for the

not show much emotion throughout the book. "I'm older than you, Adam, by a year or two. You said yourself that age doesn't teach a blessed

conflicts led to battle of Lexington and Concord. The battle of Lexington and Concord marked the begging of the American revolutionary war. Fast

the British army was very well disciplined. They followed the orders of their major and everyone knew their specific job. While on the other hand

Analysis Of April Morning By Howard Fast
Generally speaking, through the violence of war, many would agree that being able to keep your values would be a feat in itself. April Morning by
Howard Fast explores the journey of a young boy named Adam whom is forced to grow up quickly after the shot heard around the world in Lexington,
Massachusetts on April 19, 1775. A youngboy's father dies, and one non–violent leader of the community helps, along with many others, to show a boy
the path of a man. "The Reverend... argues against killing and war... and quotes the Bible to justify the rebel cause" (Novelguide Editors). Historically
known as Jonas Clarke (Novelguide Editors), the Reverend, an advocate of the community, is argumentative, accepting, and kind throughout the
fighting. Before the fighting, the Reverend kept "the minutes of the Committee meetings under his Bible and quotes the Bible to justify the rebel
cause" (Novelguide Editors). He protested fighting and tried to use reasoning, the Bible, and common sense to prove his points. In April Morning, the
Reverend states "Now it's all very well to talk about our rights, but just what are we going to do with seventy–nine men facing a thousand?" (Fast 62).
Through this, he shows how he is willing to stand up for what he thinks is best for the community. He also argues that "The only man in my
congregation who shot another is poor Israel Smith, when he put a load of bird shot into his brother Joash's sitting place... and he'll tell you it's not a

Advantages Of Starbucks Business Strategy
3:2 Starbucks basic Strategy:
According a research carried out by John Dudovskiy (2017), Starbucks business strategy is based on the following four pillars:
1. Present 'third–place' experience: Apart from selling coffee and snacks, the cafe giant is design to offer third–place experience. The business place is
so relaxing that customers tend to stay longer and purchase more coffee and snacks and wants to come back again.
2. Offers high quality coffee: The coffee industry is highly competitive, so one of the Starbucks basic strategies is its product differentiation. Even with
the high price range of their product, customers are ever willing to pay premium price. Their customer service is outstanding, which gives them more
competitive advantages. The cafe giant plans to speed up the presentation of the roaster ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Starbucks recent strategy that was announced by Howard Schultz, chairman and chief executive officer of the brand was good but lacks some vital
component that has the capacity of enhancing their market share. This day's people are becoming more and more concern about global warming, so

responsibilities, Starbucks need to carry out a massive orientation on the steps they are taking as a corporate organisation to save the planet. Take for

The decision maker of the war
Have you ever had to make hard decisions that could affect other people's life? The Reverend had to make decisions based on his situations he was
in. The book takes place on April 19 of 1775, in Lexington, Massachusetts, in the book April Morning by Howard Fast. The book gives off the
daily life of Adam Moses, as he is becoming a man from a boy in a day also the coming of the revolution. The community has to decide who will
fight in the war against the red coats or British army. The book explains each characters roles in the book. Especially the reverend with the role he
plays in the book plus the decisions he has to make. The Reverend is a religious, protective, caring man for his people. He makes the hard decisions
when war is around the corner.
The reverend is a religious man with his references to the Bible. "If the Reverend hadn't taken the situation in hand and preached one of his hottest
sermons on the relationship of the fruits of the earth to plain, downright human foolishness, I don't know where it would have all ended."(Fast 28).

Leadership Styles and Group Communication Before discussing leadership styles and their affects on group communications of a specific company, it
is important to first identify the organizational structure of that company. Different organizational structures may lend themselves more toward specific

company to control, coordinate, and motivate employees so a common goal can be achieved" (George & Jones, 2005, p. 505). Coordinate in this

April Morning by Howard Fast is a story about the Battle of Lexington, and the day to day struggles of Adam Cooper. The story takes place in Adam's
hometown of Lexington, Massachusetts. The novel opens with a glimpse into the daily life of the Cooper family. As Adam comments on the harsh
perfectionist that is his father, his only escape from his father's high expectations is his Granny Cooper and his next door neighbor Ruth Simmons.

3.3 Leadership & Direction
Leadership is important to survive through each and every kind of situation (Burrow, et al. 2007). The main leader of every company is the CEO,
who is not only a president but also a chairman. The strong leadership of the company is the reason that it has continued in achieving right place in
list of the "World's Most Ethical Companies" which is held by Ethisphere Institute. The CEO is regarded several times by Fortune, Ethisphere

The main reason behind the success as well as growth of the Starbucks is the high rate of hard work shown by the workers. This is the reason that it
was the first company who introduced the right and benefits for the part time workers. Pensions, grocery shopping discounts, healthy environment and
stock options are the basic opportunities offered by the company (Starbucks, 2014). The company make full use of the intrinsic as well as extrinsic

The Nature of Online Communities Essay
The Nature of Online Communities
What brings people together on the internet? Is it the desire to find a friend and a community or is it the other extreme of finding someone to argue
with and release all the anger that has built up inside? Do people not like who they are in real life and find the internet as a place to have a new identity,
the person that they have always wanted to be? Or, is it what Rheingold states in his article "The Virtual Community," "virtualcommunities treat them
as they always wanted to be treated – as thinkers and transmitters of ideas and feeling beings, not carnal vessels with a certain appearance and way of

After searching through the "Who's Who" board and the member profiles, I discovered that a majority of the members are adults, mostly in their
thirties or forties. A majority of the members are females, but there are a few male chocolate and coffee lovers sprinkled throughout the bunch.
Ironically though, these adults have filled the general post board full of games to play. Rarely are there any personal stories or "serious" posts on the
board. Most of them consist of "let's post cool quotes that we've found," "post pictures of cute animals" (Animal GIFs 10–6–02), or the most
interesting one, "type a message in wingdings font and decipher that and write a new message in response in wingdings" (The Wingdings Game

site and communicate with each other on a regular basis. I did observe one serious post when one of the women had a personal crisis and posted on
her experiences. She instantly received a tremendous amount of support from a majority of the members. Her virtual community was there to offer
encouragement and love in her times of trials.

Starbucks Corporation is a globally well–known America company, who has been successfully maintained its stable loyal customer basis around the
world. The company was initially established in Seattle, Washington, providing quality premium coffees with a superior level of customer service. The
goal for Starbucks coffee is to grow under the highest standards of quality, using ethical sourcing practices, being dedicated in serving the world's finest

members in organizations towards the vision of it, reaching externally adaptive and internally cohesive. Identity and image can be strengthened via
intense integration, coordination and monitoring activities across different areas of corporate communication functions, and based on different
communication approaches.
I'd like to discuss four perspectives of identity based on Starbucks Corporation, relating to different elements evolved with image shaping. Starbucks has
its desired image viewed internally and externally via dominant communication link between organizational goals and strategies. While marketing and
financial communication address the outside views of the cooperation.
To start off, Mind Identity, which refers to a set of values and philosophies that are believed by everybody in the corporation.

Howard Hughes Impact On Aviation
Howard Hughes has had an outstanding impact on aviation's history. Next to his strange paranoia and wealth from countless movies, he had a
lifelong passion for aviation! Although there was a film produced about his life, there is a lot that the world doesn 't know about Mr. Hughes.
Howard Hughes was born on December 24, 1905 in Humble, Texas to Allene and Howard R. Hughes Sr. He had an early fascination for mechanics
around age 10. By 12, he had built his own motorcycle. I believe that his fascination began with his father's tool company that was built in 1909. His
father has patented rotary oil drilling equipment that allowed miners to dig in areas that were once inaccessible. His father's company was passed

Upon further reading, it is said that the U.S. Air Force was willing to help Howard due to his pioneering work in aviation. I'm sure Howard was

his movies, his first love was aviation (Simonsen, 2005). During and after the filming of his movies, his passion for aviation had exploded! In
1928 he received his pilot license. In 1932, Howard started Hughes Aircraft Company, which was part of his father's previously known business,
Hughes Tool Company. It was originally developed to turn a military aircraft into a racer, but it eventually developed aviation inventions (Lerner,
2004). The first plane that Hughes Aircraft Company invented was built in 1935. The name of which is the H1, also known as the Hughes 1B.
This gorgeous plane was a length of 27 feet, height of 7.87 feet, and a width of 31.73 feet. Howard was the first man to fly the H1 on September
13, 1925. This beast of an airplane set a world air speed record of 353 miles per hour. On January 13, 1937, the H1 set a United States
transcontinental speed record of 7 hours, 28 minutes, and 25 seconds (Writer, 2016). Before doing further research, I thought the speed Howard set
was pretty fast, but I quickly found that I was wrong! I came to a conclusion that the fastest air speed

How Does Howard Fast Present Joseph Simmons
Joseph Simmons
A monster of a man with a heart of gold. This is how I picture Joseph Simmons from April Morning by Howard Fast. This book is about the first
battles of the Revolutionary War. It is seen through the eyes 15–year old Adam Cooper. Over the period of a few days, Joseph Simmons goes from
being a pretty flat character who is seen as the big, silent type, to stepping up and helping lead some attacks on the British. He goes from looking to
others for approval to stepping up and finding his own voice. He also gains a son in Adam, when his father, Moses Cooper, is lost in the battle. A
good man overall, Joseph Simmons is somewhat simple, extremely moral, and very kind.

that the tears were pouring down his cheeks." (Fast #126) You can tell by that bit from the book just how kind he is, how much he cares, and how
he is not afraid to show it. After the battle he also steps up to fill a hole in Adam's life, now that his father is dead. "...and then he took hold of my
hands and told me, plain and quiet, that while nothing could ever replace Moses Cooper in my head, I could turn to him just as I would to a father."

Transformation leadership often encompasses a mix of Autocratic and Democratic leadership. Autocratic with the sense that the entire team is driven by

Starbucks 's Marketing Plan For Starbucks
Introduction and Overview
Founded in 1971 at Pike's Place Market in Seattle, Washington, Starbucks coffee went from a high–quality, do–it–yourself whole bean retailer to an
international 6.4 billion dollar empire. As of 2005, there were 10,500 stores worldwide where customers could enjoy a cup of the internationally
recognized coffee at a convenient location. Starbucks achieved this through a series of strategic movements all while offering a great in–store
experience and quality coffee.
After CEO Howard Schultz took over the company in 1982, he implemented an idea he derived from Italian CafГ©s: Serving freshly–brewed,

Starbucks valued simplicity and quality over technical mediocrity; in other words, Howard Schultz wanted to position Starbucks as a traditional coffee
company, aligning with the coffee industries of Italy, Sumatra, and Ethiopia which are known for producing high–quality coffee. He also recognized
that convenient store locations were very important to the customers, in conjunction with great service. In addition, Schultz put emphasis on
innovation; "innovation" did not necessarily mean technology as far as the coffee making process is concerned, but Starbucks did innovate in
packaging to protect the flavor and freshness of the coffee beans.
Moreover, Schultz organized an experienced corporate team composed of leaders from several successful companies, such as Nike, Deloitte, and
Macy's, to help manage the company and make sure Starbucks continuously aligned with its proposed values. Yet, Schultz did not just strive for an
excellent corporate management team; he also wanted his front line workers to be the best. Therefore, he invested more money in training his
employees than marketing the brand.
The core Starbucks values described above take a more concise form in the company's mission statement (See: Pg. 326, Exhibit 2). Put simply, those
values are: 1) Respect for employees 2) cultural diversity 3) product quality (including where it purchased beans and their preparation method) 4)

Why have Starbucks customer satisfaction scores declined? Has the company's service declined, or is it simply measuring satisfaction the wrong
way? Overall, Starbucks customer satisfaction scores began to decline due to their steps of service and customer centric service in the stores.
Starbucks differentiated itself by providing more beverage choices and allowing the customers to customize their drinks. However, this worked
against them because they were in heavily dense areas that contributed to longer wait time. Additionally, that led Starbucks customers to believe the

Analysis Of A Rounded Version: The Theory Of Multiple...
In "A Rounded Version: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences", Howard Gardner illustrates how there are a variety of intelligences. Gardner starts off
with an example how IQ tests may predict achievement in school but may not predict achievement in life. After finding out certain parts of the brain
are responsible for certain functions, such as "Broca's Area" which is responsible for sentence production, Gardner proposes the existence of multiple
intelligences. Multiple studies later led him to propose seven distinct intelligences; Musical, bodily–kinesthetic, logical–mathematical, linguistic,
spatial, interpersonal, and intrapersonal. Each intelligence has certain classifications. According to Gardner's classifications, I realized my intelligences
are bodily–kinesthetic, logical–mathematical, and intrapersonal.
Gardner describes bodily–kinesthetic knowledge as being able to solve problems with the body (Gardner 513). Sports is the best example for this
intelligence. Gardner believes that you are born with this intelligence. He gives the example of Babe Ruth knowing what his "instrument" was upon

Gender Stereotypes In Australia
British Australia was built on the ruins of Aboriginal Australia, and the modern nation federated on a consensus of racial exclusion.
So it's not too surprising that there are racist elements; the country was founded on the concept.–0:21 MORE ENTERTAINMENT VIDEOS
More remarkable is how far Australia has come. It's a national story of pragmatic redefinition, of trial and error, of steady improvement.
We think of the US as being the ultimate immigrant nation. Thirteen per cent of America's population was born in another country, according to the
OECD.
In Australia today, it's more than double that at 28 per cent, a greater proportion than that of
Israel or Canada.
It's a fundamental national interest that multiculturalism work as well as possible. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So how should the political system respond to Hanson and the constituency she represents?
We've seen this movie before. We don't need to guess;John Howard deflated and defeated her and her party.
He left a guidebook for today's politicians.
When she was disendorsed by the Liberal party but elected to the House nonetheless,
Howard's response was threefold.
First, despite urgings to the contrary, he was firm but not furious in dealing with her. He did not single her out for regular attack. To do so would only
have inflamed her supporters.
Second, he did what he could to address the grievances of her supporters. All far–right politics feeds on economic suffering and insecurity. It was no
coincidence that the rampant fascism of the 1930s followed the Great Depression that started in the 1920s.
Nor is it coincidence that Trump and UKIP and the far right in Europe are rising after the long stagnation of the living standards of the working and
middle classes in their countries.
Third, Howard co–opted some of her support with policies that appealed to her constituency.
His asylum seeker policy and turning back boats was central to this.
The government needn't pander to Hanson nor demonise her, but, when her policies

Ernest Everett Just

  • 1. Ernest Everett Just Ernest Everett Just, an African American biologist, was born on August 14, 1883 in Charleston, South Carolina to Charles Frazier Just Jr. and Mary Matthews Just, who gave birth to a stillborn child and both a boy and a girl before Just was born, making Just the youngest of three children. Sadly, however, both of his older siblings died approximately two months after he was born due to disease. His father, Charles Just Jr. died of alcoholism when Just turned four and his widowed mother was left to care for them alone. Determined, Just's mother, Mary Matthews Just, purchased several acres of land and founded Maryville, which was known for creating "one of the first black town governments in the state and became a model for blacks throughout... In 1915, Just became the first recipient of the NAACP 's Spingarn Medal, which is a prestigious award given to a person of African descent who had "performed the foremost service to his race." Just was elected to the American Society of Naturalists and the American Society of Zoologists. In 1930, he became "the first American to be invited to the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute in Berlin, Germany, where several Nobel Prize winners conducted research." He gave a detailed account of his experiments in scientific journals in three countries including Germany, Italy, and France. He became "the world's leading expert on fertilization of the egg, the beginning of every life in the animal world," and earned a new title as the "scientist's scientist," given to him by his colleagues. He made fairly significant breakthroughs in specific areas of science that would include the role of environmental factors in development; "he investigated the effect of a number of variables – dilute or concentrated sea water, ultraviolet irradiation, temperature, hydration or dehydration– on embryo development." He observed "the 'wave of negativity' that sweeps over the egg cell at the onset of fertilization envelope separation, preventing fertilization by more than one spermatozoon" and "correctly reasoned that it was this wave, not the physical separation of the envelope, that is ... • 2. Swot Analysis Of Starbucks Introduction 2008 was the start of the Great Recession. Up until that point, many were enjoying the finer things in life as the economy grew at a fast pace, and many began to live beyond their means. What began with the burst of the housing bubble, this ubiquitous event affected all facets of the economy to include massive job losses which caused sharp cutbacks in consumer spending (Economic Policy Institute, n.d.). Consumers were forced to change their everyday way of life to include cutting out "luxury" items, such as Starbucks coffee. It is well known that coffee is a generally cheap commodity that is often served complementary. However, Starbucks made its millions on creating a brand, which is defined as an "entity that engenders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Schultz's vision and direction was "reigniting the emotional attachment with customers" (Husain, Khan, & Mirza, 2014). In order to do this, Schultz's plan was to reconnect with the customer and its partners (Starbucks refers to its employees as its "partners"), allowing them to express their views and ideas through technology using social media. This plan fostered an environment of passion and involvement of the community. In order to embark on this initiative and attempt to return to its brand, Starbucks approached the initiative with a transformational and authentic leadership style, teamwork, and renewed organizational structure. Leadership Style There are many leadership styles that can be employed to be effective in business. Examples of these include but are not limited to autocratic, democratic, laissez–faire, path–goal theory, bureaucratic, transformational, transactional, charismatic, authentic, servant, etc., all of which have their own attributes and limitations (Mindtool Editorial Team, n.d.). In some cases a combination of leadership styles are combined for a desired outcome. In the case of Howard Schultz, a combination of transformational and authentic leadership was used (Coulson, 2016). Transformational leaders inspire their team members because they expect the best from everyone, and they hold themselves accountable for their actions. They set clear goals, and they have good conflict–resolution skills. This leads to high productivity and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Not Just Minor Characters In April Morning, By Howard Fast Not Just Minor Characters Pop! Ping! Bang! These are the sounds that rang throughout the morning of April 19th, 1775, in Lexington, Massachusetts. Howard Fast writes in the book April Morning about the day of the Battle of Lexington through the eyes of Adam Cooper, but Adam is not the only important character in this story. Granny Cooper, Sarah Cooper, and Ruth Simmons do not seem to have a major role, but they are not just minor characters. GrannyCooper is the mother of Moses Cooper and the grandmother of Adam Cooper. Even though Granny never picked up a gun the entire book, she is still a very important character within the story. Fast writes in April Morning that Adam makes the comment, "My own opinion was that Granny could win hands down in any argument, but she would not argue with her son in front of his own children." Adam means that Granny Cooper is a very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is always shown in the role of a housewife. She does not grow over the course of the book. She is the wife of Moses Cooper and the mother of Adam Cooper. In April Morning, Fast writes, "I don't see how it gives her the right to talk to you the way she down. You're a grown man, not a boy." (pg 46). Sarah conveys that she does not approve of the way Granny Cooper talks to Moses Cooper. She is defensive of her husband's pride. She also seems annoyed that her mother–in–law talks that way to her husband like he is a child, not a grown man. After Sarah discovers that Moses is dead, she is very upset. "If I don't appear just the same –I mean the way you think about me as your mother –today and even tomorrow, you understand –." (Fast pg 195). Sarah is in shock that her husband is dead. She has never had this happen to her, so she does not know how to process her emotions. She tells Adam that she may not be able to act as his mother right now, because she is mourning Moses. Sarah Cooper is painted as a static character and she does not change over the course of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Part of his appeal was that he was not a traditional polished politician, but was an "outsider" to the political game. The Dean campaign was not getting much media coverage (Trippi called them "dismissive"). The Dean camp felt the only way to succeed was to bypass the traditional means of building a campaign and "appeal directly to the American people" (Rampton, 2004). Joe Trippi brought with him a background of working for dot–coms in Silicon Valley, giving him significant exposure to the web. He noticed that while Dean trailed in the polls, the social networking portal Meetup.com (where users group up on a specific topic and propose meeting times at local venues) had 432 members for the Howard Dean group, more than any other political candidate. Trippi put a link to the Meetup.com portal on the Dean campaign site–membership leapt to 2,700, while the next closest Democratic candidate, John Kerry, had only 330 members (Rampton, 2004). In my proposal plan I recommend that the average wait time at each food station in the cafГ© be decreased, especially during high rush hour time for example during the lunch and dinner rushes. We can help reduce the time by having servers make up pre portioned plates that way students can grab and go instead of wait in a line for upwards of thirty minutes for cold food. We can also have different food options added that serve different options because as of now the food lines operate on a schedule with the same food options every week. Another recommendation would to be expanded the cafeteria as a whole. As of now Howard University as roughly 10,000 undergraduate students, the cafeteria can barely hold 800 students comfortably. This can cause other concerns for student health for example food poisoning, which I reluctantly got from eating food from the Howard university cafeteria. Some of the alternatives that I propose are to increase the amount of workers during rush hour times to decrease the wait time. Also increase food options in what is Howard's food court "Punch Out," Determining what changes to the current system that will be most effective above will have to be analyzed in a most cost effective way. • 8. April Morning By Howard Fast Analysis "A redcoat soldier raised his musket, leveled it at Father, and fired" (Fast 100). April Morning is written by Howard Fast and takes place on April 17th, 1775 at the start of the revolutionary war in Lexington, Massachusetts. Moses Cooper is a major character and also the antagonist to Adam because he and Adam are always fighting and Moses doesn't let Adam grow up. Although Moses was hard to understand, he was an affectionate, opinionated and respected man. Moses and affection do not go hand and hand and its only sometimes when he says he loves Adam. "Hate him!" My father exploded. "Of all the crazy notions! Of all the idiotic ideas! There a boy, my first–born son – why how could any man love a son any more than I love that boy? Now where could he have gotten an idea as unreasonable as that" (Fast 45)? Moses is now realizing how Adam feels about him and although Moses does not say he loves him outright, Adam hears him and has a new perspective of his dad. The Reverend is the minister to the people who live there and is a dynamic character as well as one of the main protagonists. War has an effect on everyone involved, and usually brings out sides of people we do not normally see. In the book April Morning by Howard Fast, this is evident in the Reverend's character before conflict, during conflict, and after the conflict. Throughout the book, you can see changes in the Reverend. From the beginning, it is obvious that he is both a leader to the townspeople, and that he is a peaceful man. The main example of him being a leader comes right before the British arrive at Lexington. In the book, the people gathered and elected him as their spokesperson to the soldiers (Fast 90). Starbucks valued simplicity and quality over technical mediocrity; in other words, Howard Schultz wanted to position Starbucks as a traditional coffee company, aligning with the coffee industries of Italy, Sumatra, and Ethiopia which are known for producing high–quality coffee. He also recognized that convenient store locations were very important to the customers, in conjunction with great service. In addition, Schultz put emphasis on innovation; "innovation" did not necessarily mean technology as far as the coffee making process is concerned, but Starbucks did innovate in packaging to protect the flavor and freshness of the coffee beans. Moreover, Schultz organized an experienced corporate team composed of leaders from several successful companies, such as Nike, Deloitte, and Macy's, to help manage the company and make sure Starbucks continuously aligned with its proposed values. Yet, Schultz did not just strive for an excellent corporate management team; he also wanted his front line workers to be the best. Gardner starts off with an example how IQ tests may predict achievement in school but may not predict achievement in life. After finding out certain parts of the brain are responsible for certain functions, such as "Broca's Area" which is responsible for sentence production, Gardner proposes the existence of multiple intelligences. Multiple studies later led him to propose seven distinct intelligences; Musical, bodily–kinesthetic, logical–mathematical, linguistic, spatial, interpersonal, and intrapersonal. Each intelligence has certain classifications. According to Gardner's classifications, I realized my intelligences are bodily–kinesthetic, logical–mathematical, and intrapersonal.
