• Ricky
• Just come out of prison, this shows us that he has done something wrong
and was in trouble with the law.
• Grey Clothing shows his lower status, compared to the prison guards.
• He also has bling around his neck, perhaps trying to revive his status with
what he is allowed in prison.
• Little Brother
• Dressed in school uniform, he has a good education, his uniform is smart,
and must have been expensive.
• He is also wearing a coat, this shows us that his family is not short of
money as they can afford a full school uniform and coat.
• Best Mate
• Owns a run down car. Perhaps cant afford a smarter car.
• Smokes
• Wears earrings and a necklace, just like Ricky, maybe to raise his status
• He swears at the child, showing the audience that this is a normal and
regular occurrence and that the child is used to it.
• Prison Guards
• Higher status shown by their uniform, and the fact that the police are a
higher status to prisoners.
• Her friendly yet assertive attitude shows us that she’s used to working with
people like Ricky.
Dirty, Pretty, Things.
• Okwe
• Dressed in brown smart clothes, however they are old and worn, this could
signify that they are his only set of smart clothes and that he works a lot.
• He speaks 3 different languages showing that he is very smart, however
working as a taxi driver he perhaps can’t reach his full potential.
• ‘Okwe’ is a Nigerian name, we can also see that he is an illegal immigrant.
• Business men
• Dressed in smart suits, however different to Okwe’s. Their immaculate
suits show their high class.
• Also the setting of the airport shows how wealthy they are as flights are
exepensive. They can also afford a taxi to take them home.
• Taxi company owner
• The taxi company is based in the middle of an estate, as we see when
Okwe is driving there.
• In the bathroom there is no towel or soap, showing what they can’t
afford or do not care about, e.g. health, as we see when he asks
Okwe to look at one of his health matters.
• The company owner has a cross on a chain around his neck,
representing his religion.
• The lighting in the shop is red, this could be referring to the red light
district.

wears a fish net top, perhaps echoing the films title, and hoop
earrings.
• The setting is on a housing estate, this shows that she isn’t wealthy
and does not have ideal living conditions
• She seems to be a 15 year old girl, who like other children on the
estate, does not attend school, showing that she is not currently in
education.
• Group of Boys
• Dressed some without tops on, and tattoos on their body, they jeer at the
dancing girls.
• Some are holding Rottweilers, often associated with gangs, and known for
being violent dogs.

storyline or reality of life on an estate.
• Group of girls.

boys. They don’t seem embarrassed in anyway, showing that this is
normal for them.
