BULLET BOY
Storyline
In one of East London's most volatile neighbourhoods,
pride, rivalry and revenge are the only codes on the
street. Touted as a British Boyz in the Hood, Bullet Boy is
a gripping and authentic drama that takes an unflinching
look at two troubled, street-smart boys. Fresh out of jail,
18-year-old Ricky and his 12-year-old brother, Curtis,
struggle to walk the straight and narrow when a minor
street clash escalates into an all-out neighbourhood war.
For Ricky and Curtis, friendships, family and loyalty will
be tested to the extreme in a world where guns are a fact
of everyday life and boys try to be men before they're
even teenagers.
BULLET BOY – RICKEY
Rickey is presented…
• He is dressed in a grey tracksuit, possibly meaning he does not care much about
his appearance and is very layed back.
• He is currently in prison, meaning he is a person who doesn’t obey by the rules
and is a bad reflection on society.
• He seems to be very young and if he is in prison know his future won't seem to
promising.
BULLET BOY – RICKEY'S BROTHER (CURTIS)
Curtis is presented…
• We see Curtis in his school clothes, suggesting he is out of school – which could
cause effect upon his future, just like his brother.
• We first see him in the trunk of Rickey's’ friends care, hinting that he is escaping
(from school) without wanting people to know. Possibly meaning he knows what
he is doing is wrong.
• We later find out he wants to see his brother come out of prison. Suggesting he
has a close relationship to his brother and looks up to him – Curtis could possibly
go down the same path as his brother.
BULLET BOY – RICKEY'S FRIEND
Rickey friend is presented…
• This is the first person we see in the film as he goes to pick Rickey up from
prison. He travels there in his car. Its old and rundown, suggesting he doesn’t
have much.
• We also see he doesn’t have much from his broken lighter. As these are cheap it
connotes he is penny less.
• The lighter also tells us about his health, as smoking is bad for your health it
shows he doesn’t think into the future just like Rickey and how actions have
consequences.
• Rickey’s Friend uses bad language and dresses casual like Rickey connoting his
outlook on life is not serious.
BULLET BOY –OTHER ASPECTS
Lighting and Colour
Low key lighting is mainly used to
portray the mood and atmosphere. This
could be because of the budget the film
was made on or this could be on
purpose.
Setting and Props
There are many props used such as
guns, torches, handcuffs etc. This
connotes that the film will be based
around crime. This allows the audience
to be familiar with the genre and also
have an idea about the narrative of the
film.
The locations at the start are the
countryside and the prison with have
great juxtaposition as one is peaceful
and beautiful and the other dark and
cold.
DIRTY PRETTY THINGS
Storyline
Okwe is an illegal Nigerian immigrant leading a hard life
and struggling to survive in London's underground. He
works as a hotel receptionist in the night time and as he
has a doctor degree he practices some medicine, during
the day, in a very odd way . Besides that he must
constantly escape from Immigration officers. One day
Okwe discovers by chance an illegal scheme of surgeries is
being lead by Juan, his boss in the hotel. Juan quickly
comes up with a tempting proposal: if Okwe accepts to
perform the illegal surgeries he makes a lot of money and
gets legalized situation in the U.K. Can Okwe keep his
moral values intact?
DIRTY PRETTY THINGS -OKWE
Owke is presented..
• Owke is the main character and we know this as he is the first person we see at
the start of the film. He is a Nigerian Taxi driver, possibly meaning he is of the
lower class and does not withhold great power within society.
• At the start he asks people in many languages at the airport if the need and taxi.
This highlights his intelligence; further on we find out he is a doctor but not as a
job. We don’t know why he doesn’t have a higher class job but it could be
because he has not been in the country long and is a possible illegal immigrant.
• He was often turned down at the airport, this could be because of his casual look
or the colour of his skin and how people automatically judge.
DIRTY PRETTY THINGS –OTHER ASPECTS
Lighting and Colour
The lighting is dark and dull, meaning
its evening. But when Okwe drives
through the tunnel there is red lighting
which could have a link to the red light
district.
Settings and Props
The film is set in London, a capital city
with great opportunity's, possibly why
Okwe is there.
The area is extremely run down,
meaning that there is not much wealth.
THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS
Storyline
Three grown prodigies, all with a unique genius of some
kind, and their mother are staying at the family household.
Their father, Royal had left them long ago, and comes back
to make things right with his family.
THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS – MARGOT
TENENBAUM
Margot is presented…
• Blunt-end haircut matches her severe, unanimated, cold expressions. Almost
zombie-like, distant and cynical
• Margots desire for secrecy fills a void to emptiness and loneliness in her life.
Something she knows that no one else does, she does not fit into the world, she
creates her own.
• She is dressed in retro striped lacoste dresses, loafers, fur coat. This shows the
audience that she has wealth.
THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS – CHAS
TENENBAUM
Chas is presented…
• He has a go getter attitude to stay in shape in the hope of preventing life-threatening
situations. As a direct impact of wife's’ death.
• He feels he must maintain a strong sense of responsibility now that’s he's a
widow.
• He and his two sons wear Adidas tracksuits to symbolize Chases obsessive desire.
THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS – RICHIE
TENENBAUM
Richie is presented…
• He was a professional tennis star until he got deeply depressed and retired from
it to travel the ocean for a year. Symbolising his desire for escapism and time to
get better.
• However he holds on to any symbol of Margot because he deeply loves her and
this also shows how he cannot let things go.
THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS – ROYAL
TENENBAUM
Royal is presented…
• He was an absent father, then decided to return home – he was kicked out of his
hotel, wanted to prevent his ex-wifes second marriage and to rekindle a
relationship with his children. This tells the audience he is caring and will do any
thing to create happiness.
• Ambitious character: Conflicting, depthless nostalgia.
THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS –OTHER
ASPECTS
Lighting and Colour
For the most parts , the color and
lighting remain the same throughout
the film. The scenes are very brightly lit
with warm tones that vary in yellow,
red and orange tints. The use of the
bright lighting and warm tones results
in a very lighthearted, but warm feel for
the movie. The colours can often be
associated with the 'warm-heartedness'
of family and love, but they can also be
representative of anger and hate.
Setting and Props
The objects in the film play great
significance as they fill the void of their
absent farther, as well as define the
identity of the three Tenenmaum
children.
Its set in New York city but Wes
Anderson intentionally avoids
distinctive New York landmarks, to
make the storyline the main aspect of
the film.

  • 15. THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS –OTHER ASPECTS Lighting and Colour For the most parts , the color and lighting remain the same throughout the film. The scenes are very brightly lit with warm tones that vary in yellow, red and orange tints. The use of the bright lighting and warm tones results in a very lighthearted, but warm feel for the movie. The colours can often be associated with the 'warm-heartedness' of family and love, but they can also be representative of anger and hate. Setting and Props The objects in the film play great significance as they fill the void of their absent farther, as well as define the identity of the three Tenenmaum children. Its set in New York city but Wes Anderson intentionally avoids distinctive New York landmarks, to make the storyline the main aspect of the film.
