The document compares and contrasts the main characters of the films American Psycho and Menace. Patrick Bateman of American Psycho and the unnamed main character of Menace are both professionals who wear suits to fit in with their colleagues and hide their psychopathic tendencies. While their living rooms both show a lack of family photos, Bateman's home is modern and minimalist while the Menace character's home is old-fashioned and comfortable. Both protagonists must conceal their psychopathic nature, but Bateman is an extrovert who sometimes reveals it through strange statements, whereas the Menace character is an introvert who thinks carefully before speaking.

2. Appearance
Both characters are professional, they both wear suits for their
high key office jobs (Lawyer, Broker). They are also self obsessed,
they like to look after themselves which explains the slick back
hair styles. They like to show off their wealth by wearing expensive
suits ties and shoes and also through their tasteful home
environment. They do these things to fit in with their colleagues
and people of the same class, a common trait of psychopaths is to
put on a mask of sanity that is likeable and pleasant.

3. Home environment
The living rooms of American Psycho and Menace share many similar
traits and differences. Above, on the left, you can see Patrick
Bateman’s living room, a modern and minimalistic environment, shown
through the monochrome palette, lack of ornaments, and clean lined
furniture. However, on the right, you can see the living from Menace,
an old fashioned and comfortable environment, shown through ornaments ,
patterned rug and curtains, and fireplace. They do also show
similarities, in both rooms you can see high tech entertainment systems
and expensive taste in original artwork (American Psycho. Another
similar trait is the lack of any family photographs and pictures
of/with loved ones, this is purposely done to show how psychopaths
don’t are incapable of feeling or expressing love.

4. Role In Film
Both characters are the protagonists of their films, they are also
both anti-heroes. In both films they are tasked with hiding their
psychopathic tendencies from co-workers and loved ones, the
difference between them though is that the protagonist of American
Psycho is an extrovert who is very loud and obnoxious which leads
him to, at times, reveal his psychopathic side by blurting out
sentences that sound very strange and confusing to people listening.
However, the protagonist of Menace is an introvert, who rarely says
anything without thinking carefully first, we know this because
throughout the whole opening sequence, he doesn’t say a word.
