1. “Crisis – Emergencies Management”
1.1 Define Emergencies Management:
DisasterManagement or Emergency Management is the creation of plans through
which communities reduce vulnerability to hazards and cope with disasters. Disaster
management does not avert or eliminate the threats, instead it focuses on creating plans to
decrease the impact of disasters. Failure to create a plan could lead to damage to assets, human
mortality, and lost revenue. Events covered by disaster management include acts of terrorism,
fire, natural disasters (such as earthquakes,Flood, etc.), public disorder, industrial
accidents, and communication failures.
1.2. Natural Disasterin Pakistan:
Tsunami, Cyclone,Flood and Earthquakes are identified as some of the key natural
hazards National Disaster Risk Management Framework (NDRM).
1.3 Other type of Disasters:
Elimination and prevention of fire hazards.
maintenance of electrical equipment.
Standard fire prevention through awareness.
Smoke detectors, Sprinkler systems.
1.4. Important Measures to mitigating Fire Risk are:
doors of classrooms and buildings open outwards for safe evacuation.
exit doors are clearly marked (above and below).
exit route maps are posted on each corridor and in each classroom.
fire suppression equipment is available on each corridor.
2. fire suppression equipment is maintained regularly (eg. annual testing).
staff and older students receive fire suppression training (use of fire extinguishers,
blanket, bucket, sand, hose).
schools conduct regular fire drills.
1.5. Crisis Plan:
Lock down.
Evacuation (Move on the building).
Room Clear.
Bomb Threat.
Releasing student.
Fire/Explosion.
Active shooter (armed assailant).
First Aid equipment.

1.7 . What Should Educational Leader do?
Those available to help include:

3. Local academic, scientific and technical experts.
Local and Regional Non-Governmental Organizations and activists in disaster.
risk reduction.
International agencies including UNICEF, UNDP and UNESCO, UNISDR and
their regional offices.
International and regional advocacy coalitions.
1.8. School Location and its Environment
Due to health reasons (influence of noise, exhaust gases from vehicles, and
potential risk of accident), schools in an urban and suburban areas should be
located more than 100 meters away from major traffic and causeways.
Some studies suggest it is best to orient and design a school building so
that natural light can be a part of the lighting scheme of the school, and that
buildings should avoid being placed in a valley, due to air quality issues.
