This image of the artist Rihanna creates an
image of sophistication and style. Rule of
thirds is used well in the photo as the features
of the persons face are in the centre, drawing
attention to it. The use of the brown colour
scheme throughout the photo also creates an
image of romance and flirtatious.
Coldplay
The rule of thirds is very well in this image as
the primary optical area is empty. The effect
this has is that it draws attention to the image
of the band. As a result the area that is seen
first has nothing in it. The black suits and
glasses that the band is wearing create an
image of rebellious, rocky and loud.
Beyonce
The colour scheme in this image is very plain and
natural. This is emphasised by the light fall on the
left side of the face. This could suggest that the
artist is like an ordinary person. The rule of thirds
in this image focuses the viewer on the face of
Beyonce. A flirtatious expression is shown on the
face of the artist which could appeal to the male
audience.

I chose this image as it creates a strong image
of romance. The colours of red and pink used
throughout the photo symbolises romance.
This links to the genre of the artist as they are
a hip hop band and like to be seen a
womaniser. In this photo the rule of thirds
well as the primary optical area is left blank.
The main person in the photo is also
intercepting the third to the right of the
frame and is partially in the terminal area.
Therefore this draws attention from the
primary optical area the terminal area.
Drake
Throughout this photo the use of a
monochrome colour scheme gives an
impression of gang culture. The colour scheme
also gives an authentic feel to the image. In
this image informal balance is used where
each side is similar. This creates a traditional
portrait photo. The use of dark glasses on the
artist could suggest mystery and people have
to listen to his music to find out more about
him.
The Beatles
I chose this picture as it is a very iconic
picture that was taken of the Beatles. The
colour of this photo is old fashioned with
the contrast enhanced a little. This creates
the feeling that the photographer is trying
to make the photo look classic and
sophisticated. I chose this photo as is a
good example of rule of thirds. The rule of
thirds makes the viewer focus on the first
member of the band and then moves down
to the last. As the photograph is set on a
street, it gives the impression that the men
are just ordinary normal people in
Liverpool.
