The document discusses the effectiveness of combining an artist's main product with ancillary tasks. Specifically, the creator made a digipack, magazine advertisement, and music video for indie/pop artist Ivy. Neutral colors and consistent use of the artist's image and font helped maintain a cohesive style across all products to familiarize audiences with the artist. This combination is effective because audiences will already be aware of Ivy before viewing the music video, allowing them to relate to her. Close-up shots in the video also relate back to the close-up image used in the digipack.
How combining a product with related tasks increases effectiveness
1. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?
For my ancillary tasks I had to create a digipack for the release of an artist’s new album as
well as a magazine advertisement for its release. The artist in which I created is Ivy who is an
indie/pop artist. For the dgigpack I created a front cover, back cover and CD label.
Throughout the three tasks I kept the convention of an indie/pop artists running
throughout. I used neutral colours such as grey, white and yellow to portray to the audience
what the type of music is. A convention of an indie/pop music that I used throughout my
ancillary tasks is a picture. On all of my ancillary task that I have used a character I have used
the same person so that it allows the audience to relate and remember them if they see
their face more than once. Although the image on my magazine advertisement is different it
is still recognisable that it is the same artist to the audience. As well as using this artist in my
ancillary tasks I also used her in my main product. The effectiveness that this combination
has is that the audience will already be aware of the artist before they watch the video so
therefore will be able to relate to her more.
Throughout my ancillary tasks there is a house style that follows the conventions of an
indie/pop digipack. On all of the products that I created for my ancillary 1 and ancillary 2 the
name of the artist is written in the same sans serif font therefore allowing the audience to
relate that writing to the artist. Another way in which my ancillary products are similar is
that the artists name is also always placed in the top left hand corner. I decided to place it
here as it is the first place in which the reader looks at so they will therefore know who the
artist is.
This consistent theme of an indie/pop artist running through my ancillary products translate
in my main product as that I also seen to be the same genre. The synergy that my ancillary
products have created allows the person to have an understanding on what they are going
to expect from the music video. The use of the low tone colours on all my products give the
feeling that the music is going to be meaningful and about love. This fact is emphasised by
the use of a guitar in the picture on my magazine advertisement as it shows the indie aspect
to the music. Throughout my main product of a music video I also use many close up shots
that express the characters feelings which can relate back to my ancillary 1 tasks. This is
because the image on my ancillary 1 task is a close up shot the main character which I took
whilst on the beach filming the video.
