Kathmandu: Nepal was
struck by the worst earth-
quake in 80 years, leaving
nearly 1,500 people dead in
flattened houses and build-
ings including the iconic
Dharhara tower and
renowned Darbar Square in
the heart of Kathmandu.
Many priest were rescued
like Shri Maha Shraman Ji
and others who were pres-
ent in Nepal.
Another 34 were killed in
India, six in Tibet and two in
Bangladesh. Two Chinese
citizens died at the Nepal-
China border. Given the
scale of the destruction, the
death toll is almost certain to
rise, said Home Ministry offi-
cial Laxmi Dhakal.
The quake with a prelimi-
nary magnitude of 7.8 struck
before noon and was most
severely felt in the capital as
well as the densely populat-
ed Kathmandu Valley. A
magnitude-6.6 aftershock hit
about an hour later, and
smaller aftershocks contin-
ued to ripple through the
region for hours.
Dozens of people with
injuries were being brought
to the main hospital in cen-
tral Kathmandu.
The earthquake also shook
several cities across north-
ern India, and was felt as far
away as Lahore in Pakistan,
Lhasa in Tibet, and in
Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Following the quake,
Kathmandu’s international
airport was shut down.
A senior mountaineering
guide, Ang Tshering, said an
avalanche swept the face of
Mt. Everest after the earth-
quake, and government offi-
cials said at least 30 people
were injured.
The quake’s epicenter was
80 kilometers northwest of
Kathmandu, and it had a
depth of only 11 kilometers,
which is considered shallow
in geological terms. The
shallower the quake the
more destructive power it
carries, and witnesses said
the trembling and swaying of
the earth wen
t on for several minutes.
This U.S. Geological Survey
map, shows the epicentre of
the earthquake near
Lamjung, Nepal.
As the quake began to
intensify, residents ran out
of homes and buildings in
panic. Clouds of dust began
to swirl around them. Large
cracks opened up on streets
and walls.
Several buildings collapsed
in the center of the capital,
the ancient Old Kathmandu,
including centuries-old tem-
ples and towers, said resi-
dent Prachanda Saul to
reporters.
Among them was the nine-
storey Dharahara Tower,
one of Kathmandu’s land-
marks built by Nepal’s royal
rulers as a watchtower in the
1800s and a UNESCO-rec-
ognized historical monu-
ment. It was reduced to rub-
ble and there were reports
of people trapped under-
neath.
Video footage showed peo-
ple digging through the rub-
ble of the bricks form the
collapsed tower, looking for
survivors. In Kathmandu,
dozens of people were
gathered in the parking lot
of Norvic International
Hospital, where thin mat-
tresses were spread on the
ground for patients rushed
outside, some wearing hos-
pital pajamas. A woman
with a bandage on her head
sat in a set of chairs pulled
from the hospital waiting
room. Doctors and nurses
hooked up some patients to
IV drops in the parking lot,
or were giving people oxy-
gen.
The U.S. Geological
Survey revised the magni-
tude from 7.5 to 7.9 but
then lowered it to 7.8. It
said the quake hit at 11-56
a.m. local time (0611 GMT)
at Lamjung. It was the
largest shallow quake since
the 8.2 temblor off the
coast of Chile on April 1,
2014.

New Delhi: As per Insurance Regulatory and
Development Authority of India (IRDAI) men-
tally challenged people get covered under
medical insurance policies sold by Public
Sector General Insurance Companies
(PSGICs). Presently, the PSGICs provide
mental illness cover to children if covered with
or both parents simultaneously in the policy.
Some PSGICs also provide mental illness
cover to the persons under Employer-
Employee Group Health Insurance Policies.
While Life Insurance Risk coverage is offered
to handicapped and mentally challenged per-
sons by the life insurance companies (both
public sector and private sector) based on their
board approved underwriting policy, the disclo-
sures made in the proposal form, every life
insurance company will rate the persons to be
insured from the point of view of risk assess-
ment and underwriting as standard or sub-
standard lives in order to determine accept-
ance of proposal and the premium to be
charged. While there are no restrictions for
providing insurance facilities to handicapped
and mentally challenged persons, it is the pro-
fessional decision of the insurance company
based on their own risk bearing capacity and
approach. There are no specific
Regulations/Guidelines issued by the Authority
in this regard.
The Government of India is implementing a
scheme by name ‘NIRAMAYA’ through which
the handicapped and mentally challenged per-
sons are covered for medical treatment upto
Rs. 1 lakh. Aam Admi Bima Yojana (AABY) is
also a Government Social Security Scheme
being administered through Life Insurance
Corporation of India (LIC) that provides
life/accident insurance protection to the rural

As individuals, it’s easy
to feel powerless in the
face of global climate
change. We can make
individual choices to live
with less, and cut down
on our own personal car-
bon footprint, but how do
we really make a differ-
ence?
To sensitize students
towards the protection of
the environment and
active participation in mit-
igating Climate Change
the Corporate Resource
Cell,at Asian Business
School, invited an emi-
nent ,sensitive environ-
mentalist, having several
ecological initiatives
under his belt, to interact
with the students.Dr KD
Gupta is theEx Director
personnel CCI,Govt of
India.
Dr KD Gupta was warmly
welcomed by the Director
Asian Business
School,Dr Lalitya Vir
Srivastava and the entire
student fraternity .Before
being invited to address
the students and faculty
on this raging issue ‘The
Ecological impact on the
Global Economy’,his pro-
file was read.
Dr Gupta began by say-
ing that we are affecting
climate change as much
as it is affecting us.
And this is how we are
implicated in this
issue:Each time one
drives a car or truck, one
is contributing to a large
percentage of emissions,
with personal transporta-
tion accounting for nearly
one-fifth of all emissions.
When including planes,
freight, ships, and trains,
transportation as a whole
makes up nearly 30% of
greenhouse gases pro-
duced in the US.In our
homes and at the office,
we use large amounts of
electricity, water treat-
ment, waste disposal,
and heating and cooling
— all utilities that create
harmful emissions when
produced and supplied to
us.
Electricity alone
accounts for 32% of
greenhouse gas emis-
sions. Commercial and
residential settings con-
tribute 10% of emissions,
while industrial produc-
tion accounts for
20%.The various appli-
cations of developing
crops and animal live-
stock for the food we eat
are responsible for
approximately 18% of
emissions produced
globally.The additional
land use and forestry
effects of agriculture are
also significant.
.He said though it may
feel like so much is out of
our control, the good
news is there is a lot of
change to be made on
our own through educa-
tion, teaching, and prac-
tice of sustainability and
climate change mitiga-
tion.
For years already we’ve
seen how greenhouse
gases bring about rapid
melting and rising sea
levels, severe weather,
and health and food
risks. Unfortunately, if a
global effort isn’t made to
quickly reverse our pat-
terns of behavior, these
problems will accelerate
even faster. The dire con-
sequences of our actions
are immediate and tangi-
ble: We are seeing
•Severe weather, more
severe rain,and droughts.
•Melting polar ice and
glaciers
•Threats to electricity
supply
•Flooding and rising sea
levels
•Disruptions to food sup-
plies
•Increased health risks
•Increased forest
destruction and wildfires
•Plant and animal life dis-
ruptions
He added,that an educa-
tion in climate change
and sustainable practices
is one of the best meas-
ures one can take to lead
real and practical global
change, and many peo-
ple are doing this already
by implementing sustain-
ability into their business-
es and communities.
He urged the students to
be a part of this move-
ment toward sustainabili-
ty and join the conversa-
tion about climate
change and become pio-
neers in this field, to
affect real change in the
sustainability of their
communities, at a time
when doing so is more
important than ever.
Dr Lalitya Vir Srivastava,
thanked the guest for his
valuable inputs and said
that it was high time
everybody woke up to the
fact that the environment
needs to be conserved
and taken care of ,for the
coming generations. At
the closing he presented
a memento and awarded
the‘Lifetime membership’
of The International
Business & Management
Research Centre,to Dr
KD Gupta.

Creative thinking skills are as
much about attitude and self-
confidence as about talent.
Who would know this better
than a management student?
Creativity is generated through
a state of mind.
To touch on this aspect and to
emphasize the connection
between spirituality and man-
agement the Cultural Club at
Asian Business School, invited
a very eminent personality,
Swami Bodhanand Ji, the
founder of several ashrams and
the Sambodh Foundation, to
deliver a talk to Students at
Asian Business School under
the theme ‘Living life
Creatively’. Dr Lalitya Vir
Srivastava welcomed Swamiji
with a bouquet.
The dignitaries on stage includ-
ed Dr Sangeeta Menon,-
Professor at National Institute
of Science,Dr BP Mathur-for-
mer member Indian Audit
&Accounts Service,and Dr
Lalitya Vir Srivastava-Director
Asian Business School.
In his welcome
address,Director Asian
Business School,Dr Lalitya Vir
Srivastava ,informed the stu-
dents and faculty members of
the journey of this brilliant aca-
demician in search of
divinity,and invited him to
address the gathering.
Swami Bodhanand Ji,initiated
his talk with the belief , that
strong emotional self-manage-
ment is often needed in order to
allow creative thinking states to
emerge. It is important to be
able to cope with risk, confu-
sion, disorder and feeling that
you are not progressing quick-
ly. According to him,creativity is
often less ordered, structured
and predictable.
As you are not looking for 'one'
answer, you are likely to come
up with lots of suggestions that
are not 'right'. This can be diffi-
cult if you are more used to
analytical and logical
approaches. It can also be
experienced as 'risky' as the
prospect of making a mistake
or not coming up with an
answer is more likely.There is
no limit to ways there are of
thinking creatively. Some
Creative thinking techniques
suggested by SwamiJi are:
•Brainstorm ideas on one topic.
Ask questions such as 'what
if….?' Or 'supposing….?'
•Ask the same question at least
twenty times and give a differ-
ent answer each time.
•Combine some of the features
of two different objects or ideas
to see if you can create several
more.
•Change your routine. Do
things a different way..
•Let your mind be influenced by
new stimuli such as music you
do not usually listen to.
•Be open to ideas when they
are still new: look for ways of
making things work and push-
ing the idea to its limits.
This eminent and powerful
speaker enthralled the audi-
ence with his masterful oratory,
laced with lively humour, giving
valuable insights to the gather-
ing,on how to attain excellence
in life,by being creative.
This rare treat ended with a
scintillating question answer
session, which Swami ji,grace-
fully handled.
Towards the end, Swamiji was
awarded with the ‘Lifetime
Membership’ of, The
International Business &
Marketing Research Centre
which ,was presented by Dr
Lalitya Vir Srivastava.

direct sellers under the tax net.
CAIT National President Mr. B. C. Bhartia & Secretary
General Mr. Praveen Khandelwal in communication sent

panies to its members or franchises are taxed at origin
stage only. After that the said goods travel through chan-

is filed with Tax Authorities.
The current VAT Taxation system is a destination based
taxation system and the ultimate consumer has to pay
the tax while each sale in supply chain attracts VAT Tax.
