Question. 1. Elaborate the concept of computer networks. Briefly
explain the different types of networks.
a) Concept of computer networks
Answer: A computernetworkordata networkisa telecommunicationsnetwork whichallows nodes
to share resources.Incomputer networks, networked computing devices exchange data with each
otherusinga data link. The connectionsbetweennodesare established using either cable media or
wireless media. The best-known computer network is the Internet.
Network computer devices that originate, route and terminate the
b) Types of computer networks
Answer: One wayto categorize the differenttypesof computernetworkdesigns is by their scope or
scale. For historical reasons, the networking industry refers to nearly every type of design as some
kind of area network. Common types of area networks are:
 LAN - Local Area Network
 WAN - Wide Area Network
 WLAN - Wireless Local Area Network
Question. 2. Write Short notes on:
a) Connectors
Answer: Anelectrical connector,isanelectro-mechanical device usedtojoinelectrical terminations
and create an electrical circuit.Electrical connectorsconsistof plugs(male-ended)andjacks(female-
ended). The connectionmay be temporary, as for portable equipment, require a tool for assembly
and removal, orserve asa permanentelectrical jointbetweentwo wires or devices. An adapter can
be used to effectively bring together dissimilar connectors.
b) PC Cards
Answer: In computing, PC Card is a configuration for computer parallel communication peripheral
interface, designedforlaptopcomputers.Originally introduced as PCMCIA, the PC Card standard as
well asitssuccessorslike CardBuswere defined and developed by the Personal Computer Memory
Card International Association (PCMCIA).
It was originally designed as a standard for
c) Hubs
Answer: A hub isa commonconnectionpointfordevices in a network. Hubs are commonly used to
connect segments of a LAN. A hub contains multiple ports. When a packet arrives at one port, it is
copied to the other ports so that all segments of the LAN can see all packets.
What Hubs Do
d) Bridges
Answer: “A device used to connect two separate Ethernet networks into one extended Ethernet.
Bridgesonly forwardpacketsbetweennetworksthatare destinedforthe othernetwork. Term used
by Novell to denote a computer that accepts packets at the network layer and forward them to
another network.”
Why Use Bridges?
Question. 3. Explain the Elements of Communication System.
Elaborate on Modulation/Demodulation (Modem)
a) Explanation of the Elements of Communication System
Answer: As mentioned before, the purpose of a communication system is to transmit intelligence
signal froma source to a destinationat some pointawayfromthe source.Figure 1 is a blockdiagram
of a communication system. This system consists three
b) Elaborate on Modulation/Demodulation (Modem)
Answer: QAM(quadrature amplitude modulation) is a form of modulation, to provide an example.
It's the technology that allows data (digital information) to be transmitted over a medium, using
frequency and amplitude (as a signal). There are many modulation variations, based on one more
more concepts: amplitude, frequency, phase and others.
The idea is, a modem is able to modulate (co
Q4. Identify and explain the five types of classes of IP Address. Also
write few points on Private and Public IP Addresses.
a) Explanation to the five types of classes of IP Address.
Answer: The 5 classes of IP addresses were created as the original Internet routing scheme in the
1970's. These 5 classeswere proposedbythe IEEE committee.These classeswerenotcreated,after
the fact, to meet the needs of an ever expanding Internet. When the IEEE proposed these classes;
each of the 5 classes were 'designed' for a specific purpose.
b) Private and Public IP Addresses.
Answer: A public IP address is an IP address that can be accessed over the Internet. Like postal
address used to deliver a postal mail to your home, a public IP address is the globally unique IP
address assigned to a computing device. Your public IP address can be found at What is my IP
Addresspage.Private IPaddresson the other hand is used to assign computers within your private
space without letting them directly expose to the Internet
Question. 5. Briefly discuss concept of Network Management Tools
and Applications.
a) Network Management Tools.
Answer: The NetworkManagementtoolsetof the OpUtilssoftware monitorsnetworkperformance,
calculates the bandwidth utilization, and scans the traffic for errors through SNMP. The tool also
provides asset details such as the OS, installed software, and hardware and informs you about the
general availability and performance of the network
b) Network Management Applications.
Answer: In the network management model, a network management application (NMA) is the
software thatsitson the networkmanagementstation(NMS) andretrieves data from management
agents (MAs) for the purpose of monitoring and controlling various devices on the network. It is
defined by the ISO/OSI network management model and its subset of protocols, namely Simple
Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and Common
Question. 6. Explain the Working, benefits and limitations of Cloud
Computing.
a) Explanation to the Working of Cloud Computing.
Answer: From floppy disks to CDs to USB flash drives, file saving and sharing has undergone a
significantevolutionoverthe pastdecades.The devicestoshare filesare becomingsmallerandhave
higher capacities, increasingly destined to serve an on-the-go lifestyle.
Today you no longer need to save all your documents on one particular device. Instead, you can
access your files from any terminal at any time, thanks
b) Explanation to the benefits of Cloud Computing.
Answer: Advantages
 Worldwide Access.Cloud computing increases mobility, as you can access your documents
from any device in any part of the world. For businesses, this means that employees can
work from home or on business trips, without having to carry around documents. This
increasesproductivityandallowsfaster exchange of information. Employees can also work
on the same document without having to
c) Explanation to the limitations of Cloud Computing.
Answer: Disadvantages
 Security.Whenusingacloudcomputingservice, you are essentially handing over your data
to a third party. The fact that the entity, as well as users from all over the world, are
accessing the same server can cause a security issue. Companies handling confidential
information might be particularly concerned

Elaborate on Modulation/Demodulation (Modem) a) Explanation of the Elements of Communication System Answer: As mentioned before, the purpose of a communication system is to transmit intelligence signal froma source to a destinationat some pointawayfromthe source.Figure 1 is a blockdiagram of a communication system. This system consists three b) Elaborate on Modulation/Demodulation (Modem) Answer: QAM(quadrature amplitude modulation) is a form of modulation, to provide an example. It's the technology that allows data (digital information) to be transmitted over a medium, using frequency and amplitude (as a signal). There are many modulation variations, based on one more more concepts: amplitude, frequency, phase and others. The idea is, a modem is able to modulate (co Q4. Identify and explain the five types of classes of IP Address. Also write few points on Private and Public IP Addresses. a) Explanation to the five types of classes of IP Address. Answer: The 5 classes of IP addresses were created as the original Internet routing scheme in the 1970's. These 5 classeswere proposedbythe IEEE committee. These classeswerenotcreated, after the fact, to meet the needs of an ever expanding Internet. When the IEEE proposed these classes; each of the 5 classes were 'designed' for a specific purpose. b) Private and Public IP Addresses. Answer: A public IP address is an IP address that can be accessed over the Internet. Like postal address used to deliver a postal mail to your home, a public IP address is the globally unique IP address assigned to a computing device. Your public IP address can be found at What is my IP Addresspage.Private IPaddresson the other hand is used to assign computers within your private space without letting them directly expose to the Internet Question. 5.
