GRATIFICATIONS’?
• A Theory devised by Blumler and Katz in 1974.
• It is about how people view the media.
• These uses and gratifications use the media in 4 different ways.
3. DIVERSION
• Diversion is escaping everyday problems.
• This could be buying a magazine for example.
• Mainly used to distract you from your life and people around
you.
4. SURVEILLANCE
• Surveillance is about gaining information about the world.
• This could be something like a magazine telling you about
where they will be at certain times in concert.
5. PERSONAL IDENTITY
• Personal Identity is about finding parts of Media which suit you.
• This can be something that you familiarise yourself with, like a
rap artist acting a certain way which you can relate to.
6. PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
• Personal Relationships is about using the media to find out
about the background of celebrities.
• This is used when finding out what for example Rock Stars do
in their free time and their relationships.
7. USE OF DIVERSION:
• On this contents page the diversion
on it will be the entire magazine, as it
is being sold in attempt to make you
want to be distracted.
8. USE OF PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
• On this contents page an example of
personal relationships will be at the
bottom written from James talking
about things unrelated to his job.
9. USE OF PERSONAL IDENTITY:
• On this contents page an example of
personal identity will be that All Time
Low are stood together in a way no
different to how those who aren’t in a
famous band would act, relating to
the reader.
10. USE OF SURVEILLANCE:
• The main use of surveillance on this
page will be the main picture in the
centre with the meet and greet, below
this it shows times and dates of when
you can meet and greet them.
