to becoming an icon
• Born May 8th in the Bronx, New York
• studied part-time at the Art Students League in
Manhattan
• attended night classes with György
Kepes at Brooklyn College
• Worked as a graphic designer for print
advertisements
• He then works in Hollywood where his work is seen
by Otto Preminger
• Preminger is so impressed by Bass’ poster design
for his film Carmen Jones (1954) he asks him to
create a title sequence
4. • After Carmen Jones Bass created the
poster and sequence for another of
Preminger's films, The Man With They
Golden Arm. This made Bass widely
known and he was soon working with
other great directors such as Alfred
Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick.
