Media Format (film, The media format for my final project will be a music video. I wanted to
documentary, motion make a music video because I have done it in another lesson and I enjoyed
graphics, it and if made properly it looks very good when finished.
photography,
animation, graphic
design etc)
Synopsis of Idea The video will be a narrative/concept based music video which will
(content, narrative, accompany the song Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff by Deadmau5 ft. Rob Swire. The video
genre) will take place at night basically feature a man being chased around by men
in scary masks.
Target Audience? The video would be aimed mainly at teenagers and young adults because
(demographic NOT the type of music accompanying the song is preferred by this audience and
age range) the content of the music video would be enjoyed more by this
demographic. I think the video could appeal to either gender because
generally both genders are into horror, however in terms of the genre of
music and the style of the video I think it may appeal slightly more to
females. It will appeal more to people who are into electronic/dance music
because of the song which accompanies the video and the video fits in a lot
better with the song and is the kind of video which accompanies a dance
song very well.
Target Audience The target audience will require something they can focus on as opposed to
Needs? something dull where not much is going on, however it would have to be of
a professional standard and look good to keep their attention. Generally
something of a horror genre is set in a dark place which is usually quite
creepy, quite often there will be trees surrounding to make the viewer’s
feel more isolated. Camera angles for horror usually require making the
audience feel immersed, allowing them to feel what the character’s feel
and feel part of the video. They should also be quite jumpy to shock the
audience in places. Editing will require making it generally quite slow
moving to build up suspense but then quick cuts to show something is
happening and to keep the audience’s attention. Horror is usually
associated with people wearing masks or some kind of abnormal costume
to identify that they are a threat and to make it different from just a regular
serial killer. These are all the basic elements of a horror video and what the
audience will expect to see when watching it.

How will your project My project will be an interesting video where something is constantly
meet the needs of happening in order to keep the audience’s attention focussed on the video
your target audience? and give them what they want; the content of the video will appeal
(Make reference to specifically to the target audience to keep them fully interested. Also when
content you think will finished, it should be of a professional standard. The setting for my video
appeal to your target will be in a dark field, set at night with lots of trees surrounding to add a
audience) creepy effect and to make the audience feel isolated, as they require. The
camera work will be shots which make the audience feel more immersed in
the video, such as over shoulder shots or point of view shots so they see it
from the character’s point of view and there will be plenty of jumpy shots
to show something bad is happening and some shaky camera shots to add
to the feeling of being there. The costume in my video will be all black with
a creepy mask, the black so it is difficult to see the character’s and add to
the creepy effect and the mask just fits the horror genre and gives the
audience what they want.
What production The pre-production stage of my idea will require things such as
techniques will you brainstorming ideas and using software such as MindGenius to put these
use to realise your ideas down. It will also require looking at different possibilities of how to
project? make the video, what kind of shots I will use and creating storyboards to
show this. Production for my film will require filming equipment, camera,
tripod, possibly lighting kit etc. Post-production will require editing
software such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects. After Effects
will be used for title sequences which I can import into premiere to
accompany the video. Premiere will be used to make sure the editing is
done the way the audience requires it, lots of jump cuts, fast paced editing
where required but also slow paced in some parts to add effect.
