I have chosen to do a short film based on a horror genre. As it is nearly
Halloween I will get some great footage from everyone dressing up and
trying to be scary. I will get a few of my friends around to help me shoot this
short movie. When I am happy with the amount of shots I have got I will
then out it all together on the computer and maybe add some effects to
make it look creepier. I am going to base the film around zombies.
Synopsis of Idea
(content, narrative,
genre)
The genre of this short movie will be horror and it will have all the codes
and conventions you expect from a horror genre e.g. creepy surrounding,
dark, raining and spooky things happening to the main cast. In the short film
it will be based around a house and the streets around it. The story will be
easy to follow, the plot will be clear and there will only be a few twists in it
so that a wider range of audiences can follow it.
Target Audience?
(demographic NOT
age range)
The target audience that I am aiming for will be anywhere between
teenagers to middle aged adults, or anyone that enjoys watching the genre
horror. Especially with it turning Halloween soon the film will be more
appealing to a larger audience.
Target Audience
Needs?
The target audience needs to experience what they love in that specific
genre e.g. in a horror they will be looking out for scary scenes, suspense,
violence and maybes monsters. Also suspense, a good horror movie keeps
its audience on the end of there seats.
How will your project
meet the needs of
your target audience?
(Make reference to
content you think will
appeal to your target
audience)
Well I’m going for a spooky short film, with suspense, shock and just the
classic horror movie feel. What I am going to have to do to catch my
audience’s attention is get the right environment outdoors and indoors,
maybe night time for when we go out in the film, flickering street light,
weird noises, fog. Hopefully I will be able to find most of these things
around the area I live; as that is where I will be filming I will have a good
idea of where to film. Also make sure that there are no dry scenes, if it’s
going to be a short film I might as well keep it running smoothly rather than
waiting for one thing to happen, keep the audience interested.
What production
techniques will you
use to realise your
project?
I was going to do the film in a POV style considering a lot of horror movies
recently are shot in that style and it still delivers that scary feeling. But
having thought about it I’m going to do a bit off both, POV and a standard
tripod shots. Getting the scenery in the shot as well is a good technique,
allowing the audience to be in the area as well, noticing things the
characters may not. I will be using all the gadgets on the camera as well,
that includes the zoom, focus, using light to get a better image also wide
angles.
