The format that i have chosen is Music Video because I have experience in
this media format and will be able to apply my knowledge and develop my
ideas further in making a better music video. The music video will be a
performance and narrative piece in the acoustic/indie genre of music. This
media format is adequate to show better development throughout the
stages compared to the other media formats such as; Motion Graphics,
Animation or Movie Trailers.
I would film my narrative backwards (the ending would be filmed first and
the start would be filmed last). I would then playback the footage in reverse
for the narrative to be the right way around but the footage would be going
backwards this would allow good camera angles and techniques to be used.
Also different shots can change to be abit more adventurous such as a glass
or papers being dropped, someone falling over. As the footage would be
reverse and everything would reform. The atmosphere of the music video
would start quite sad then develop to a happy ending when the pieces are
being put back together. The artist would be in reverse returning the
original place he was but the audience don’t know what this place is.
A solo male artist (singer/main actor) fits the profile for this song. There
would be only one main character throughout the video to not complicate
the production and the way the footage will be edited. This helps focus
better on the camera techniques/angles around one character.
There will be a performance between certain shots to break the flow and
not kill the effect and strength of the narrative.
I believe that the target audience that my music video is aimed at is young
male and female adults. This is because they can relate to artist and his
problems where as a young child would not have experience these
problems so they would be able to see the meaning behind the video.
The male and females in tis target audience would have a passion for
acoustic music and most would play a type of instrument that would fit into
this song e.g. acoustic guitar. They would listen to these types of songs for a
calming and relaxing atmosphere.
Target Audience
Needs?
The needs of the target audience is to be entertained throughout the video
no matter what the atmosphere of the Music Video is this can be achieved
by the performance and the story that goes into the video and how well
thought out the ideas are.
The audience would want to feel an attachment towards the main
artist/actor to be able to relate themselves to the situation or person in the
video.
The artist and music video should be remembered by the audience after
they have watched the video and want them to pass it on to other people.
The biggest need that the target audience is enjoyment factor of the Music
video and would they view it again or would they share it to other people.
How will your project
meet the needs of
These needs would be achieved by selecting a good candidate for the main
acting role for the main artist this is for someone that the audience can

respect and want to watch. This would then be put down to the
performance that is given from this person. They would have to show a
good sense of personality and charisma to engage the audience. If this is
achieved then the audience will be entertained and enjoy what they are
watching. The performance is the biggest part of the music video because
the camera is most always around the main character as I want the
audience to become attached.
Secondly the music video will have to have a good narrative to back up the
performance. This would mean that there are no loop holes in the story
and that the audience don’t get confused with the way the reverse
narrative is working (What’s the start and what’s the end). Abit of humour
will be used to change the atmosphere of the video at times to keep the
audience entertained
I will be using a variety of camera shots ad techniques to develop the
quality of my project and make it look as professional as I can. This would
mean shooting the same shots over and over again until they align together
and I have enough footage to take away and edit efficiently.
A lot of the production will be used in editing as I will have to reverse the
footage to make the narrative the fight the footage. This edit is good
because it is not a conventional method used in this particular genre of
music.
At parts of the video I will be shooting in slow motion to capture certain
events to add to the atmosphere of the music video and give a surreal
feeling to the audience as the music stays the same tempo but the video
slows down.
