What does the EU Commission means with Education and Training?
1. Education and Training
The EU Youth Strategy aims to reduce the current skills mismatch in Europe and ensure
that the young are able to transition from education to employment.
Therefore, the EU is active in the following areas:
- Ensure equal access to high quality education and training;
- Develop youth work and other non-formal learning opportunities;
- Provide links between formal education and non-formal learning;
- Improving transition between education and training and the job market;
- Reduce early school leaving.

What does the EU Commission means with Employment and Entrepreneurship?
2. Employment & Entrepreneurship
Increasing youth employment is central to the EU's employment policy, within the
context of the Europe 2020 growth and job strategy.
To promote youth employment & entrepreneurship, the EU works together to:
- Invest in th skills employers look for;
- Develop career guidance and counselling service;
- Promote opportunities to work and train abroad;
- Support quality internships/apprenticeships;
- Encourage entrepreneurship.

What does the EU Commission means with Health and Well-being?
3. Health & Well-being
The EU Youth Strategy aims to support the health and well-being of young people with
a focus on:
- Promoting mental and sexual health, sport, physical activity and healthy lifestyles;
- Preventing and treating injury, eating disorders, addictions and substance abuse;
- Promoting cooperation between schools, youth workers, health professionals and
sport organisations;
- Making health facilities more accessible and attractive for young people;
- Raising awareness of how sport can promote teamwork, intercultural learning and
responsibility.

What does the EU Commission means with Social Inclusion?
4. Social Inclusion
Since social exclusion and poverty among young people has increased during the
economic crisis, the EU aims in particular to:
- Realise the full potential of youth work and youth centres as means of inclusion;
- Encourage a cross-sector approach to address exclusion in areas such as education,
employment and social inclusion;
- Address the issues of homelessness, housing, and poverty;
- Promote access to quality services – e.g. Transport, e-inclusion, health, and social
services.
- Promote specific support for young families.

What does the EU Commission means with Creativity and Culture?
5. Creativity and Culture
The EU supports young people's creativity and innovation through access to and
participation in culture. Specifically, the EU Youth Strategy aims to:
- Increase access to culture and creative tools;
- Support the development of creativity;
-Make new technologies available to empower young people's creativity and
innovation, boost interest in culture, the arts and science;
- Promote specialised training in culture, new media and intercultural skills for youth
workers;
- Promote knowledge about culture and cultural heritage.

What does the EU Commission means with Participation?
6. Participation
How to encourage young people to participate in the democratic process and in
society?
The EU Youth Strategy seeks to:
- Develop mechanisms for engaging in dialogue with young people and facilitating their
participation;
- Support youth organisations, including local and national youth councils;
- Promote participation by under-represented groups of young people in politics,
youth organisations;
- Support ways of “learning to participate” from an early age.

What does the EU Commission means with Voluntary Activities?
7. Voluntary Activities
Volunteering is an excellent example of non-formal learning for young people.
The EU Youth Strategy promotes:
- Greater recognition of the value of voluntary activities and the skills it promotes;
- Good working conditions for young volunteers and opportunities for enriching work;
- Intergenerational solidarity;
- Transnational volunteering.
The European Voluntary Service (EVS), part of the Erasmus+, offers young people aged
17-30 the chance to volunteer in another Member State as well as outside the EU.

What does the EU Commission means with Youth and the World?
8. Youth and the World
How to encourage young people to engage with regions outside Europe and to become
more involved in global policy processes?
The EU has the objectives to:
- Raise awareness of global issues among young people;
- Provide opportunities for young people to exchange views with policy makers on
global issues;
- Encourage young people to volunteer (i.e. “green volunteering”);
- Promote entrepreneurship, employment, education, and volunteering opportunities
outside Europe;
- Foster mutual understanding among young people from all over the world.

  • 2. European Youth Strategy (2010- 2018) What does the EU Commission means with Education and Training? 1. Education and Training The EU Youth Strategy aims to reduce the current skills mismatch in Europe and ensure that the young are able to transition from education to employment. Therefore, the EU is active in the following areas: - Ensure equal access to high quality education and training; - Develop youth work and other non-formal learning opportunities; - Provide links between formal education and non-formal learning; - Improving transition between education and training and the job market; - Reduce early school leaving. Employment & Entrepreneurship Increasing youth employment is central to the EU's employment policy, within the context of the Europe 2020 growth and job strategy. To promote youth employment & entrepreneurship, the EU works together to: - Invest in th skills employers look for; - Develop career guidance and counselling service; - Promote opportunities to work and train abroad; - Support quality internships/apprenticeships; - Encourage entrepreneurship. Health & Well-being The EU Youth Strategy aims to support the health and well-being of young people with a focus on: - Promoting mental and sexual health, sport, physical activity and healthy lifestyles; - Preventing and treating injury, eating disorders, addictions and substance abuse; - Promoting cooperation between schools, youth workers, health professionals and sport organisations; - Making health facilities more accessible and attractive for young people; - Raising awareness of how sport can promote teamwork, intercultural learning and responsibility. Social Inclusion Since social exclusion and poverty among young people has increased during the economic crisis, the EU aims in particular to: - Realise the full potential of youth work and youth centres as means of inclusion; - Encourage a cross-sector approach to address exclusion in areas such as education, employment and social inclusion; - Address the issues of homelessness, housing, and poverty; - Promote access to quality services – e.g. Transport, e-inclusion, health, and social services. - Promote specific support for young families. Creativity and Culture The EU supports young people's creativity and innovation through access to and participation in culture. Participation How to encourage young people to participate in the democratic process and in society? The EU Youth Strategy seeks to: - Develop mechanisms for engaging in dialogue with young people and facilitating their participation; - Support youth organisations, including local and national youth councils; - Promote participation by under-represented groups of young people in politics, youth organisations; - Support ways of “learning to participate” from an early age.   • 8. European Youth Strategy (2010- 2018) What does the EU Commission means with Voluntary Activities? 7. Voluntary Activities Volunteering is an excellent example of non-formal learning for young people. The EU Youth Strategy promotes: - Greater recognition of the value of voluntary activities and the skills it promotes; - Good working conditions for young volunteers and opportunities for enriching work; - Intergenerational solidarity; - Transnational volunteering. The European Voluntary Service (EVS), part of the Erasmus+, offers young people aged 17-30 the chance to volunteer in another Member State as well as outside the EU. Youth and the World How to encourage young people to engage with regions outside Europe and to become more involved in global policy processes? The EU has the objectives to: - Raise awareness of global issues among young people; - Provide opportunities for young people to exchange views with policy makers on global issues; - Encourage young people to volunteer (i.e. “green volunteering”); - Promote entrepreneurship, employment, education, and volunteering opportunities outside Europe; - Foster mutual understanding among young people from all over the world.
