Assessment Mapping
This presentation introduces three examples of
Assessment Mapping Models
• Assessment Alignment Map
• Timeline of Assessments
• Mapping skills/knowledge across a programme

Assessment Alignment Map
Grant Agreement Number: 2020-1-UK01-KA203-079045
Assessment Alignment Map
Maps the assessments/assignments against the
programme learning outcomes (graduate
attributes), to ensure that they are addressed in
full within the degree programme as a whole
(all assessments across all years and in all
modules/courses that the student will study).

Assessment Alignment Map
It shows a table where you
can identify each assignment
across a programme as a
whole.
It is challenging using this
approach to see how each
assessment builds on
another progressively across
the length of the course.

Timeline of Assessments
Grant Agreement Number: 2020-1-UK01-KA203-079045
Timeline of Assessments
Useful for looking at
the timing of
assessments across a
semester or an
academic year
Either within a
module or across
several modules.
Could also be presented as a Gantt chart
Grant Agreement Number: 2020-1-UK01-KA203-079045
Timeline of Assessments
Shows how the assessments fit in a timeline and route-map.
Students can see where they receive their assessment briefings,
how long they have to work on each assessment, and when the
deadlines are, so they can plan their time more effectively.
Educators can identify potentially problematic times.
E.g. three assessments are due at the end of Week 5/start of
Week 6. This is also the point where the guidance for Module 1
Assessment 2 is released.
Are the students likely to be able to focus on the details of this
assessment guidelines?

Mapping skills/knowledge
across a programme
This approach
enables links to be
drawn between
assessments which
address a particular
academic skill or
progression of
knowledge and
understanding.

Mapping skills/knowledge
across a programme
The timing of the assessments can be
reviewed, in order to ensure that there
is sufficient time for the learner to build
on their experiences sequentially.
There is also the potential to verify (for
educators) and inform students of the
kinds of feedback provided for each
assessment, and how it can be applied
to the subsequent assignment that
addresses the same skill.
