Good Health and Well-being
for all at all ages

Background
• More than 6 million children still die before their fifth birthday every
year.
• 16,000 children die each day from preventable diseases such as
measles and tuberculosis.
• Every day hundreds of women die during pregnancy or from child-
birth related complications. In many rural areas, only 56 percent of
births are attended by skilled professionals.
• AIDS is now the leading cause of death among teenagers in sub-
Saharan Africa, a region still severely devastated by the HIV epidemic.
These deaths can be avoided through…
•prevention and treatment,
• education
• immunization campaigns
• and sexual and reproductive healthcare
Mawa CareGroup model
• The Mawa care group aims to promote and support effective
implementation and quality service delivery for improved health
behaviors and outcomes in communities.
• This uses android mobile apps as a job aid for community based
health workers to deliver nutrition counselling messages and support
monitoring for improved nutrition status for beneficiaries
• It is a youth developed software adopted by the government.
Farming Initiatives
• Being healthy means good nutrition.
• Over 70 percent of human diseases originate in animals. Healthy
animals contribute to healthy people and to sustainable food
production.
• FAO contributes to improving animal health by promoting approaches
aimed at making animal production more efficient and sustainable,
and in establishing best practices in preventing and controlling
diseases which threaten animal production, public health and trade

• Improved Self-awareness and self confidence
• Better understanding and comprehension of sexual and reproductive
health topics such as HIV/AIDS, Contraceptive use, STI’s, Sexual abuse,
early and forced child marriage, etc
• Reduced number of girls dropping out of school and getting married
or getting pregnant
• Improved academic performance
• Clarity of personal vision and career choices
• Sister--‐to--‐sister Relationships created among the girls, CRZ Staff,
donors.
• Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) impose a large burden on human
health worldwide. Currently, 63% of all deaths worldwide stem from
NCDs – chiefly cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory
diseases and diabetes.
Sani Foundation
• Educating and training individuals with Mental disabilities with
various skills gardening, cooking, crafting, home management, art,
drama, physical exercise and life coaching.
• The project uses evidence-based approaches, adapted to the local
setting to establish a holistic and relevant education, in which persons
with intellectual disabilities are stimulated and aided to create and
sell products using recycled materials.
• The project also profiles each member’s needs, identify their
aspirations, talents and skills, and beyond the training, find short
term internship experience for members to have a real feel of the
employment world before accessing a permanent job or setting up a
business concern.

  • 1. Youth Involvement in Ensuring Good Health and Well-being for all at all ages Presenter: Sopani R Muzumara 7th African RCE Conference, Lusaka, Zambia
  • 2. Background • More than 6 million children still die before their fifth birthday every year. • 16,000 children die each day from preventable diseases such as measles and tuberculosis. • Every day hundreds of women die during pregnancy or from child- birth related complications. In many rural areas, only 56 percent of births are attended by skilled professionals. • AIDS is now the leading cause of death among teenagers in sub- Saharan Africa, a region still severely devastated by the HIV epidemic.
  • 3. These deaths can be avoided through… •prevention and treatment, • education • immunization campaigns • and sexual and reproductive healthcare
  • 4. Mawa CareGroup model • The Mawa care group aims to promote and support effective implementation and quality service delivery for improved health behaviors and outcomes in communities. • This uses android mobile apps as a job aid for community based health workers to deliver nutrition counselling messages and support monitoring for improved nutrition status for beneficiaries • It is a youth developed software adopted by the government.

  • 6. Farming Initiatives • Being healthy means good nutrition. • Over 70 percent of human diseases originate in animals. Healthy animals contribute to healthy people and to sustainable food production. • FAO contributes to improving animal health by promoting approaches aimed at making animal production more efficient and sustainable, and in establishing best practices in preventing and controlling diseases which threaten animal production, public health and trade

  • 12. • Improved Self-awareness and self confidence • Better understanding and comprehension of sexual and reproductive health topics such as HIV/AIDS, Contraceptive use, STI’s, Sexual abuse, early and forced child marriage, etc • Reduced number of girls dropping out of school and getting married or getting pregnant • Improved academic performance • Clarity of personal vision and career choices • Sister--‐to--‐sister Relationships created among the girls, CRZ Staff, donors.
  • 13. • Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) impose a large burden on human health worldwide. Currently, 63% of all deaths worldwide stem from NCDs – chiefly cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes.
  • 14. Sani Foundation • Educating and training individuals with Mental disabilities with various skills gardening, cooking, crafting, home management, art, drama, physical exercise and life coaching. • The project uses evidence-based approaches, adapted to the local setting to establish a holistic and relevant education, in which persons with intellectual disabilities are stimulated and aided to create and sell products using recycled materials. • The project also profiles each member’s needs, identify their aspirations, talents and skills, and beyond the training, find short term internship experience for members to have a real feel of the employment world before accessing a permanent job or setting up a business concern.
