This document provides guidelines for non-chemical and chemical management of tree borers. Non-chemical methods include pruning out local infestations, removing extensively bored trees, and using beneficial nematodes or wire probes to kill clearwing moth larvae. Chemical treatments are only recommended for preventing infestations on high-value trees, and must be applied to kill adults before serious infestation. Proper identification of borers is needed for effective management. The most important steps are keeping trees healthy to avoid borer attacks in the first place.
