Bob Dylan s Song The Hurricane
Bob Dylan s song, The Hurricane is a story communicated through song. It is a tribute to a man whom
Mr. Dylan felt compelled to tell the story of. It is a song of protest, fighting against racism. The
Hurricane is not a real person, it doesn t breath, eat, or have a need to be safe and loved, it is not a
man. Rubin Carter is a man, one who spent over 15 years of his life falsely imprisoned, robbed for
time no one could ever replace.
One of the first pivotal moments in this journey towards freedom is when Rubin sends
Bob a copy of his autobiography, titled The Sixteenth Round: From Number 1 Contender to
#45472. After reading Carters book, Dylan went to visit him while incarcerated. He felt a
philosophical connection to Carter, and went on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Thomas Middleton s The Crucible
Analytical Research Paper
Thomas Middleton s, Women Beware Women and Arthur Miller s The Crucible, are both set in the
1600s a time when women did not have any rights. Although both stories are completely different
from each other, they share a common trait of bold, powerful women. In The Crucible, Abigail s
jealousy and desire to have revenge on Elizabeth Proctor has her manipulate everyone in the town of
Salem causing hysteria. Livia, the widow in Women Beware Women strategically manipulates every
person to turn their backs on each other which creates a tragedy. Abigail and Livia are the villains in
their community but how they acquire their power is very different. While Abigail s power comes
from her intense desire for revenge on a specific person and then spreads throughout the community,
Livia s motivation for power originates from her own boredom and desire for control on a large scale.
Both of these characters are nothing short of cynical. They are motivated by self interest and cannot be
trusted. Livia, is the sister to Hippolito and Fabritio and the aunt to Isabella. She is a wealthy woman
on her own but her life went down hill after losing two husbands. There is no question that she is the
essence of evil in Women Beware Women because she wants other people to be miserable as she once
was. In The Psychological Drama of Women Beware Women written by Charles A. Hallett, he says,
Cynicism is, in a sense, a mechanism developed by the unimaginative designed

The Benefits Of NCAAAthletes
With another year going by, fans watched another exciting NCAA Basketball Tournament and another
football season filled with highlights and heartbreak. Many people think that the NCAA is as popular
as professional sports. It s a fact that it s annual revenue can challenge this opinion. College football
and basketball generate more than the National Basketball Association, a total of more than $6 billion
yearly (Nocera, Joe). There is one major difference between the two associations, however. NBA
players get paid for the all the money they help bring in, while NCAA athletes receive no
compensation. Getting an education for free is not enough anymore; especially if the NCAA wants to

The NCAA must decide whether if it is a business or not. If the NCAA became a nonprofit
organization, then the association would have an argument against paying players. An article from the
Sport Journal, the author relates to Kahn s argument that the NCAA acts as if it s a cartel with how it
they go about their actions. According to his study, in 2005 a football player on draft boards out of
high school is worth $495,000 and a draft ready basketball player is worth more than $1.5 million to
the NCAA! (Johnson, Dennis A). This mean that a scholarship player is losing money and that their
actual worth to the school is worth way more than the scholarship itself. That combine with players
receiving no compensation for their play in sports that have major revenue, and are also restricted to
when they can go professional, shows an oppressive policy meant to use these players for

Dr. Manhattan is Majorly Misunderstood
Dr. Manhattan s new calculating mind in Watchmen, by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, forces him to
keep his thoughts on the past, present and future. With all of these thoughts, he has to put aside all the
emotions he once felt because his thinking capacity is being used for more important things. He knows
that his works is more important than other people. Therefore, he has put aside his feelings for
humanity and doesn t care what happens to those around him. It can be concluded that he no longer
loves those who were once closest to him. At times, it seems as though he doesn t feel anything at all
anymore. His lovers think of him as an emotionless monster. However, even though his thoughts are

It is only that his mind can know think in a more sophisticated manner that people misunderstand him
because their own minds are not as high functioning. People also fear his power. They view him as
more of a god when he does not even believe that there is one. However, even though the fear that
many other people have of him keeps the United States out of war, it was not this fear that ended his
relationship with Janey. What caused Janey to leave Jon was his lust for a younger and more attractive
new girl who caught his eye. The scene in chapter four when we see him standing at the first, official
meeting of the Watchmen is where we see him looking at Laurie. It was this that lead to Janey s
jealousy. She used that growing spite to go to the newspaper about her cancer and testifying that it was
Jon who had caused it. Everybody s gonna know what he did . It is almost as if she is getting back at
him for going to this new girl by forcing people to pity her because he gave her cancer. It almost leads
one to think if she talking about the cancer or about the girl that he left her for. Still, it is obvious that
Jon still feels love. He even still feels love for Janey. His reaction in chapter three at the interview,
when he is told that he is giving people cancer, is how we can tell. He begins to heave into emotional
imbalance as he shouts out that he just wants to be left alone. That is exactly what ends up happening.
He leaves to be alone. His emotions of having just been

Ap Courses Should Not Be Offered At New West Essay
Many schools in the country offer students the chance to take Advanced Placement courses. Every
student has heard time and time again that taking these courses are necessary to prepare for life after
high school. Unfortunately, that claim is not the truth and is being proven to be false each day. AP
courses should not be offered at New West because they do not offer the opportunity to go into deep
discussion on topics being taught, selective schools such as Dartmouth and Brown are not giving them
as much importance, and because the courses affect the quality of the school for the worse.
AP courses are not allowing students to delve into the material they are being taught. Students and
school officials would be surprised on knowing this realization because many would argue that AP
courses provide students with the best education the school offers. These courses are having
instructors teach to the test so that the students have a better chance of getting into their preferred
college. Many teachers are having to resort to teaching terrible skills to have the students excel in the
AP exam. Students are taught to skip on the foundations of an essay and to score the maximum points
on the grading rubric with just enough evidence to squeeze by, according to retired high school teacher
Keith Bernstein. This type of teaching gives the example that students only need to meet the limit and
not show their true potential. Offering these courses will also require teachers to move quickly on

Domestic Violence Against Women Act Of 1994
Domestic Violence
Health Policy
Yuliet Pozo Martinez
South University
Abstract
Despite the fact the physical effects of domestic violence could be the similar as for other forms of
violent crime, the emotional effects can be much worse. Domestic violence happens when a crime is
committed against a victim by someone with whom the victim is or has previously found, in a close
relationship or somebody living in the same household as the victim. Domestic violence regulations
differ from state to state. These variances range from conceptualization to the requirements under
required reporting laws. Because of all these differences, the entire process of avoidance a domestic
violence situation rest on each state. The Violence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Legislation Types The Congress of the United States in 1994, as part of the Crime Bill, passed law
allowing the federal government to take part in the battle against domestic violence. This new law,
named The violence against Woman Act (VAWA), To fight this violent crime problem, VAWA made
federal domestic violence crimes to be act against by the Department of Justice. Reliable with this
federal inventiveness, the Crime Bill also modified the Gun Control Act to embrace domestic violence
related crimes. Congress reiterated its commitment to fight domestic violence crimes by the
performing in the fall of 1996 of extra federal domestic violence crimes in both VAWA and the Gun
Control Act. The federal government has largely lacked authority over several domestic violence
crimes. However domestic violence remains primarily a matter of state and local jurisdiction
(Lindhorst, Casey, Meyers, 2010).
Federal Legislation The Violence against Women Act (VAWA) delineated funding programs to avoid
violence against women and set a national domestic violence hotline. Also, new protections were
given to victims of domestic abuse, such as confidentiality of new address and modifications to
migration regulations that permit an abused partner to apply for permanent residency. This act also
discourses federal tools to accuse domestic violence offenders in certain situations including firearms
or interstate travel or activity. The federal domestic violence statutes offer

Russian Jewry Research Paper
The vast territories of the Russian Empire at one time hosted the largest population of Jews in the
world.[7] Within these territories the primarily Ashkenazi Jewish communities of many different areas
flourished and developed many of modern Judaism s most distinctive theological and cultural
traditions, while also facing periods of antisemitic discriminatory policies and persecutions. Russian
Jewry consists predominantly of Ashkenazi Jews but also comprises a number of other Diasporan
Jewish groups, such as Mountain Jews, Crimean Karaites, Krymchaks, Bukharan Jews, and Georgian
Jews.
The presence of Jewish people in the European part of Russia can be traced to the 7th 14th centuries

Barium Enema Essay
Everyone should know that a lower GI is a very common and important exam used to diagnose many
colon conditions. A lower GI examination, also know as a barium enema, is an x ray examination of
the large intestine. The large intestine, or large bowel, consists of the entire colon, including the
appendix, rectum, and sigmoid colon. This commonly performed test is essentially the predecessor to
the more familiar colonoscopy. A lower GI is used worldwide to help diagnose fatal diseases and
many other problems that affect the large intestine.
Some of the reasons that your doctor might order this exam are if you are experiencing diarrhea,
constipation, blood in your stool, unexplained weight loss, anemia, to screen for colon polyps or ...

The barium is then released from the bag and begins to flow slowly into your colon. As the barium
begins to fill your bowel you will feel some pain and pressure, and an urgency to have a bowel
movement. The doctor will watch the barium as it moves through your intestine on a TV screen, using
a special live x ray called fluoroscopy. You will be asked to turn to different positions, and the table
may be tilted slightly to help the barium flow through your colon and to take x rays from different
directions. Sometimes a slightly different version of the test may be done. It is called a double contrast
barium enema. If a double contrast study is being done, the barium will be drained out, and then air
will be injected into your colon. As you can imagine with the air contrast study, the amount of
cramping and pain increases, due to the expansion of the bowel with air. After all of the films are
taken the enema tube is removed, and you are taken to the restroom to expel the remaining barium and
air. One or two films may be taken afterwards, to check how much barium is remaining in your bowel.
The entire test takes anywhere from thirty minutes to one hour. After the exam you may resume a
regular diet, and be sure to drink plenty of liquids to replace those you have lost and to help flush the
remaining barium out of your system.

Roland s Heroic Hero
The loss of his men deeply troubles Roland into portraying the heroic quality of honoring the dead. As
the battle against the Saracens slowly diminishes the French forces, Roland scans the mountains pass
and cries out,
Barons, my lords, may God give you his grace, may he grant Paradise to all your souls, make them lie
down among the holy flowers.
I never saw better vassals than you.
All the years you ve served me, and all the times, the mighty lands you conquered for Charles our
King! (140. 1854 59)
The feeling of despair in Roland is evident in these lines. None of the rearguard ran away when they
saw a fierce battle approaching. Instead, they followed orders and fought honorably under the
command of Roland. At the sight of all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is notable to realize that Roland is physically about to die, yet the obligation of blessing his
companions is his top priority. Roland returns, lays the brave men down according to their rank, and
watches as the Archbishop blesses each one. Roland shows particular emotion when he sees Oliver
lying on the plain When Roland fixes his eyes on Oliver s cold body, he
felt such grief and pity, he begins to weep; and his face lost its color with what he felt: a pain so great
he cannot keep on standing, he has no choice, falls fainting to the ground. (164. 2215 20)
Roland and Oliver s relationship is much more meaningful than friendship. Although the two
arguments between Oliver and Roland seem like they pit each vassal against each other, they still
resemble brothers in arms (Ailes). No matter how different they may seem, Roland honors Oliver in
the end. In addition, the Twelve Peers that fought so bravely by Roland s side. Through the

Examples Of Racism In A Gathering Of Old Men
Racism Racism is a huge problem, especially here in the United States. The United States has come a
long was, but there is no doubt that there is much more progress to be made. People seem to follow
the patterns of others and fall in to the same issues. It is important that the cycle breaks and individual
learn to be independent and speak their own minds instead of following the thoughts and beliefs of
others. Until the chains are broken and people fall out of this endless loop, racism will continue to be a
major issue. Throughout many of the reading this semester, we have encounter serious racism. In
some cases the individual being a target of racism in turn exhibits acts of racism themselves. The
anger that these character feels can cause them to label all individuals in a group as racist, which isn t
fair at all. Some of the characters lose themselves due to racism. They try to fit to the ways of another
culture that is more excepted than theirs. In A Gathering of Old Men, the characters are set a little
further back in time when areas were still segregated. The characters do not get along with the
majority of the white population, which is completely understandable. The white community has
moved in and taken over so much of their land. They have caused these characters so much pain and
suffering. The white community even takes over the farming in their area. These characters can t do all

Theme Of The Movie Hugo
HUGO : AN INTERPLAY OF HUMANS AND MACHINES

Martin Scorsese s celebrated movie Hugo is widely considered to be a timely reminder on the need for
preserving the old movies. But in spite of being adapted from a children s novel, Hugo reveals layers
of hidden meaning within the story. One of the major themes recurring throughout the movie is the
relationship between humans and technology, or more specifically, humans and machines.Though
shown explicitly only in a single dream sequence, the theme of humans turning into machines and vice
versa is present throughout the movie.

clocks, present throughout the movie, gives the viewer a very vivid awareness of time passing.Like

Georges Melies (Ben Kingsley).Time has stolen everything from him, and only a broken shell of a

Essay on Media Effects on Body Image
With the tremendous effect the media has on men women s body image/self esteem, there are things
the media and those being effected can do to limit the impact. The media can change the portrayal of
models in magazines, television, billboards, etc. By portraying unrealistic models, studies can
conclude that it causes a negative effect on men and women leading to eating disorders, self esteem
problems, and possibly even sometimes more dramatic actions such as suicide (Groesz, Levine, and

Last, more organizations such as, About Face, fighting against negative images of women in the media
could possibly help to decrease the problem. About Face is a non profit organization out of San
Francisco. It began in August of 1995 and their purpose is to combat negative and distorted images of
women in the media. They first started when an advertisement of Kate Moss for perfume was
displayed and her body image was altered and adjusted and made her look skeletal. They took that
same poster had Emaciation Stinks in bold printed across the top and Stop Starvation Imagery across
the bottom of the poster and hung hundreds of their version all over the streets of San Francisco. This
event gave many others the motivation to voice their opinions on media s negative images of women
and to also get involved in organizations such as About Face (About Face). If more and more people
learn about how much the media is effecting not only women but men and both of all ages, and get
involved in more organizations that battle against this, it might not stop the media from doing what
they are doing, but it could help others to follow their footsteps instead of falling into the media s

Free Soda Pop And The Promise Of A Five Course Breakfast
If you would have told me twenty years ago that I would be where I am today I would have probably
laughed at you. Growing up I never wanted for nothing and I had everything a little girl like me could
possibly want. My parents ran a lake and a small local bait shop. For sixteen years we ran this little
lake and I had it all. I had over eighty acres to play on, five different playgrounds with different
equipment at every one of them, fishing, plenty of kids to play with during the summer time, a golf
cart that I learned how to drive, free soda pop and the promise of a five course breakfast every
weekend from some of our campers, I had a dad that I idolized, a mom who tried to teach me the
important lessons in life, a sister to drive crazy, and a brother whom I got to see once in a while. I had
it all when I was growing up and some of my class mates would make fun of me for being big, for
being in a lower class, or simply because I was different. On the worst of days I would seek refuge in
a little hidden world. The pine trees canopied over a certain spot and make different patterns across
your skin. I would lay there for hours until Mama called for supper and watch as the bugs made a
home and sometimes a squirrel would skitter around me in a hurry to get home to his family. The wind
would blow through the trees and the sweet perfume would fill the air. Sometimes I would lay there

Affordable Food Argument Essay
The United States prides itself on its freedoms and the many rights it guarantees to its citizens. A
person has the right to religious freedom, to a trial by jury, to free speech, to free expression but what
about the right to healthful food? At this point, no right in the United States explicitly guarantees
citizens access to nutritious, affordable food. A possible reason for this is that guaranteeing equal
access to food across the nation is a daunting task. How does one even begin to accomplish such a
goal? But despite its difficulty, this is an end to which the nation must work. It is too important an
opportunity to miss because of indolence. Access to healthful, affordable food should be a right of
citizenship in the United States because the nation recognizes such access as a basic human right and
because such access is arguably a more important right than many that we currently enjoy. While
practically, realizing this goal will be a challenge, the United States can do so by simply protecting
other human rights, such as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Buachaillin Should Be Banned
Listening Journal An Buachaillin Ban is a tune that is a sean nòs, and thus considered a traditional
Irish song. There are no instruments and it is sung solo and in the Gaelic language. The melody is
unmetered with a varying rhythm in each verse and likely based on the young lady s own pattern of
speech. Because the song is unaccompanied, the singer is using a great deal of ornamentation to give
the tune more interest and aesthetic appeal. She has a small bit of nasal timbre that is more noticeable
at the end of certain phrases and, using some vibrato, she slides her notes to join words or phrases
together. The ornamentation differs in each verse adding character to the very long and very stylized
melody. She is telling a story and though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Around the 1:47 mark the tune changes and switches from The Reel of Rio to The Woman of the
House . Both tunes have an extremely fast rhythm and are written in 4/4 time making them simple
quadruple metered with 4 beats per measure. The rhythmic pattern appears to repeat itself in binary
form, though it is difficult to follow. The tone in The Reel of Rio distinctly changes from low to high
after two measures and in The Woman of the House the tone remains mostly the same up to the end.
Both tunes are reels , which is the most popular tune type within the Irish dance music tradition
(Reel). As with all reels, they have the same structure, consisting largely of quaver (eighth note)
movement with an accent on the first and third beats of the bar. (Reel). These accents make it difficult
for this writer to count out the beats and therefore, unable to imagine dancing to these tunes.

Teaser: About four million Americans suffer from constipation are you one of them?
Article: The modern day toilet, while certainly convenient has one major flaw, it s built for sitting.
And while sitting to eliminate is considered civilized , there s another position that may improve how
you poop. And better elimination means less bloating, straining, hemorrhoids and constipation.
A little history behind sitting
What if I told you there was a more efficient way to poop? The bowel is the body s main elimination
organ, yet amongst many Americans today, this central elimination system is compromised by
something as simple as the position you choose to poop in. If you have less than three bowel
movements a week, then you may be one of the millions suffering from constipation. So, before
constipation gets the best of you, maybe it s time to go back to basics.
The first seated toilets ever built were used primarily for royalty and the disabled. However, after the
advent of indoor plumbing in the 1800s, the water closet was adapted with a porcelain throne to fit the
average home. That meant, common folk could now poop in a civilized manner just like the queen.
But prior to that, our ancestors were squatting

Tort Law Can Be Defined As An Area Of Law
Tort law can be defined as an area of law that deals with the wrongful actions of an individual or
entity, which cause injury to another individual s or entity s person, property, or reputation, and which
entitle the injured party to compensation (Tort Law). In other words, a tort case occurs when a person
has broken civil law by inflicting injury, whether physical, emotional, or that of one s reputation, onto
another person. When a crime such as this has been committed, tort law allows for the injured party, or
plaintiff, to seek out compensation for the wrongs that have been committed against them (Tort Law).

committed negligently or accidently (B. Sexton). The final type of tort case is Products Liability. This
occurs when injury or harm has been caused by a defective product (Products Liability). In this type of
tort case, there are three types of product defects that cause liability issues. These are design defects,
manufacturing defects, and marketing defects (Products Liability). A design defect is when the overall
design of the product causes the harm or injury to the plaintiff (Products Liability). A manufacturing

only a few of the products are flawed (Products Liability). Finally, a defect in marketing occurs when
harm is caused to the plaintiff because the product was not labeled with any warnings about possible
dangers with use of the product (Products Liability). Even though there are six types of tort cases, torts
can also be broken down into three main, general categories of torts. The three categories are
Intentional Torts, Negligence Torts, and Strict Liability Torts (Tort Law). An intentional tort can be

Selling Violent Video Games to Minors, Is It Good?
In the year 1972, something happened that would forever change
the world of home entertainment and personal enjoyment. The first
video game to break through the confines of reality, was a game
called Pong. From Pong, to Call of Duty, people come a long way in
the world of video games. However, some games have struck up
controversy with their gratuitous violence and their questionable
motives. It has become so controversial, that it has been taken
up and noticed by our own government. So, what s the problem with
violent video games, and how can the next generation be protected, so
that they will not get influenced by these games in real life?
So how did all of this begin? Let us go back to a time where
change needed to happen to the flow of digital
entertainment. In the year 1993, a new arcade cabinet just
made it s way to the arcades and is getting played more and more
every single day. That game was called Mortal Kombat. Mortal Kombat
is a fighting game on the arcade that would soon debut on home
consoles. But that sounds very similar to Street Fighter 2 , some people may ask right now, what was
so special about Mortal Kombat?
Well there were 2 very distinct differences between these games.
First were the designs of the characters, and the second(and most
obvious) was the ABSOLUTELY GORY FATALITIES! This quote from

The Demon Lover And The Disturbing Lover
Marriage has been an important aspect of life for thousands of years. While the world has not always
married people formally, the link between a wife, her husband, and both their families has been a
significant part of history; however, things change. Many women cheat and have children that are not
their husbands . It has been a problem since Mesopotamian society; at least, that is as far back as
society can trace it. Ancient societies started making laws against the adultery of a woman and
punished them for cheating. While the laws have disappeared, adultery has still continued through
history. Both the The Demon Lover by Elizabeth Bowen and the Scottish ballad The Daemon Lover
deliver messages in order to warn women to stay faithful to their partners, no matter the
circumstances. Bowen s The Demon Lover expresses a warning to women during times of war. The
story takes place at the beginning of World War 2 and tells the tale of a woman, Mrs. Drover, who
remarried after her fiance was presumed dead during his time in the war, but many years later,
received a letter from him. She was awestruck, but she had a husband and kids ... Show more content

couple going to hell and Bowen s story ends in the taxi speeding away without mercy, (arguably)
taking the taxi driver, the Devil, and Mrs. Drover to hell. Both stories varied in details. The number of
children changed and the story of the woman changes. The ballad is more straight to the point and
conveys the message quickly in contrast to The Demon Lover in which the story is more descriptive
and is left to deeper

Waugh Presents Change Consistently as a Destructive Force...
Waugh presents change consistently as a destructive force in the novel To what extent do you agree?
Within the context of pastoral literature, change is typically seen as a destructive force, intrinsic with
the movement away from a harmony with the natural world towards modernisation and corruption. In
Brideshead Revisited the same pattern appears to be followed; moving from the peaceful harmony of
Sebastian and Charles life in Oxford into corruption and turmoil or the shifting power balance
between the social classes, from the nobility to the lower classes. However, change is not exclusively
a negative force in the novel. Charles and Sebastian s first encounter into Rex s world of manipulation

Looking beyond Hooper, the soldier s treatment of Brideshead adds to a sense of carelessness and lack
of awareness in the lower classes. The painting that Charles spent hours working on is made absolute
hay of , Charles created something of wonderful beauty, only to be destroyed by unappreciative men;
symbolic for the fate of Britain, in Waugh s eyes, in the hands of the Youth . In respect of the changes
Sebastian makes to Charles life, Waugh presents change as the antithesis of destructive. Before
Sebastian, Charles friends are described as grey figures , lifeless and colourless boys whom scrambled
fiercely for facts . Scrambled brings forth images of desperation, fiercely for facts heightening the
mocking tone of the description, as though they had nothing other than facts to be passionate about.
The first thing Waugh mentions about Sebastian, on the other hand, is the magical day him and
Charles lay underneath a tree in the country with the sweet scent of tobacco merged with the sweet
scents of summer around us and the fumes of the sweet, golden wine lifting them a finger s breadth
above the turf . The repetition of sweet makes this description even more sensuous as it draws upon
one s sense of taste and smells simultaneously, the heavy sibilance in the phrase sweet scents making

Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Stages
Erikson s Psychosocial Stages Erik Erikson discussed psychosocial stages, his theory however was
predicated upon Sigmund Freud s theory of psychosexual stages. According to Erikson, the ego
develops as it prosperously resolves crises that are distinctly gregarious in nature. These involve
establishing a sense of confide in others, developing a sense of identity in society, and availing the
next generation prepare for the future. Erikson proposed a lifespan model of developing , taking in
five stages up to the age of 18 old age and three further levels beyond, well into adulthood. Erikson
suggests that there is still plenty of room for continued emergence and development throughout one s
life. Erikson put a great mountain of stress on the adolescent time period , feeling it was a crucial stage
for developing a person s identity. The outcome of this maturation timetable is a wide and integrated
set of life skills and abilities that function together within the autonomous individual. However,
instead of focusing on sexual development (like Freud), he was interested in how children socialize
and how this affects their sense of self. Psychosocial Stages Erikson s (1959) theory of psychosocial
development has eight distinct stages. 1. Trust vs. Mistrust Erikson s first psychosocial crisis occurs
during the first year of life, during this stage the infant is uncertain about the world in which they live.
To resolution these feelings of uncertainty the baby looks towards

Meditation is very difficult for some to practice, especially for those who are new to meditating. Most

sources and carefully selecting the most important ones, it revealed an interesting part of European
history. By examining various factors such as the inner and outer factors regarding the destruction of
The Berlin Wall, the paper revealed how much the people suffered during the Soviet Union s rule in
Eastern Europe. In the search for some reliable sources, the study stumbled upon an article in a Danish
newspaper, who had a special issue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
De fire sejrherre er Frankrig, England, Sovjetunionen og Amerika. Tyskland bliver inddelt i fire zoner,
som bliver fordelt imellem sejrherrerne. Derudover bliver Berlin også inddelt i fire zoner på trods af,
at Berlin ligger i den Sovjetiske zone. Tysklands spørgsmålet bliver tilsidesat, frem for omgivelsernes
sikkerhedsbehov. Sejrherrerne ønsker, at forhindre en tysk revanchisme, ligesom efter første
Verdenskrig. Denne opgave undersøger ved hjælp af en grundig redegørelse, hvad der er baggrunden
for, at Berlinmuren bliver opført i 1961.

Wells Fargo Research Paper
Wells Fargo has one of the longest and storied histories of any of today s companies. The company
was established by Henry Wells and William G. Fargo, who also co founded the American Express,
and several other investors in 1852. The company was to provide express banking services in
California, which caught their attention due to the economic boom of the gold rush. They offered
many diverse services and continually merged or took over existing companies to become the leader
in western transportation by the end of the 1860 s. They have continued to adapt and grow by
demonstrating innovations like establishing the transcontinental Express line during the emergence of
the railroads and identifying and branching out into other areas throughout the years.
As they quickly established themselves as the leaders in stage coach operations they helped launch the
Overland Mail company. By 1910 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To expand beyond their financial offering they also decided to move into insurance. Insurance
compliment the financial services and added to the impressive array of service that Wells Fargo could
offer. The Insurance division of Wells Fargo started in 1903. Wells Fargo has become a leader in the
insurance world. They have grown to become the largest bank affiliated insurance brokerage firm in
the U.S. (WFIS About Us, 2016) Wells Fargo offers many different types of insurance through WFIS,
Wells Fargo Insurance Services, as well as other companies that are owned and operated by Wells
Fargo. Most of which are not available through other insurance brokerages. To achieve this Wells
Fargo has purchased many companies and had many mergers and acquisitions. All this has this has
made Wells Fargo very successful at managing and implementing organizational changes. During the
2000 s they continued to both experience growth and setbacks but have continued to endure and, as of

Essay on Critical Issue on Psychological Debriefing
Critical Issue on Psychological Debriefing
Two facts presented by Mitchell of the critical issue (Mitchell, 1983).
The CISD protocol that Mitchell described was a group process of seven distinct phases. Prior to this
Mitchell used a six stage model (Mitchell, 1983).
The Society working party on psychological debriefing was given the aim of evaluating the available
information and opinions and producing a clear statement on the status of psychological debriefing
(Mitchell, 1983)
Two facts presented by Devilly and Cotton on Critical issue Cotton and Devilly, (2003):

It was said from the studies they all failed because they did not demonstrate a clear benefit of
debriefing (McNally et al., 2003), with intervention groups and control groups reporting equivalent
posttraumatic symptoms.
Psychological debriefing responded to these results by claiming there is only one component of a
comprehensive approach to crisis management and it is meaningless to evaluate the effectiveness of
this one component as a singular intervention strategy (McNally et al., 2003). The heart of this debate
is the issue of whether psychological debriefing might be a waste of resources (Brewin, 2001;
McNally, 2004). Mitchell has been shown to be credible because of the seven steps he believes to be
workable. In 1983, he introduced Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD). The model he developed
was designed to prevent and manage the horror resulting from traumatic stress, and reduce the
casualties among emergency service personnel. Mitchell model poses the below seven unique phases,
which are integrated with stress education and information throughout the process.
Introductory phase (rules and process explained).
Fact phase (what they saw, heard, smelled, touched and did).
Thought phase (first thoughts).
Feeling phase (emotional reaction).
Assessment phase (physical or psychological symptoms).
Education phase (stress response syndrome).
Re entry phase (referral information), (Kenardy et al., 1996, pg 38)

Response Paper On Rituals
Response Paper #2 By Yaffa Segal From my understanding, a ritual is something that occurs more
than once and has a meaning behind it. For example, a prayer. A more basic example could be
brushing your teeth every morning after you wake up. Rituals are used both by humans and animals.
Animals often have mating rituals. Humans have been performing rituals since the earliest of times for
a variety of reasons. In the Stone Age, rituals could have been used to communicate with gods or dead
ancestors. They could also have been used to mark different times of the year. For example, the
different seasons. Rituals were a form of symbolic activity. Some rituals even involved masks or other
carvings. Perhaps there was even a ritual for making a carving. ... Show more content on

We use many forms of expression in this ritual. First of all, there are certain prayers that are said in
synagogue. The prayers take a lot longer than normal, and generally finish around 2:30pm. On both
the first evening and the second evening we eat simanim, which are symbolic foods. The first is honey
in order to pray for a sweet new year. The custom is to dip an apple in honey. Another food is carrots
so that G d will nullify any bad decrees. We eat beets so that our enemies will be removed. Another
food is the head of a fish. Not everyone eats it, as many do not find it appealing. However, most
people have a tiny piece from it. This is to symbolize that we be like the head and not the tail; always
moving forward, not backwards. We eat leak (or cabbage) so that those who want to hurt us will be cut
off. Other symbolic foods include dates, gourd, beats, and pomegranate seeds. We say a blessing on
each one. One Rosh Hashanah, we wish others a shanah tova which means a good year. Rosh
Hashanah is a time for judgement. G d writes your fate for the year. On Rosh Hashanah it is written
and on Yom Kippur (about a week later) it is sealed. On Rosh Hashanah we are praying that G d will
give us a sweet, new year and that nothing bad will happen to us. A major part of Rosh Hashanah is to
blow the shofar, which is a hollowed out ram s horn. This shofar is a wake up call for us in order to
remind us to wake up and repent for any of our wrongdoings. Although I have celebrated Rosh
Hashanah every year since I was born, I actually do not know the origins of it. I have never thought
about that before, and it is something I am definitely going to look

Evolution Of The Carcharodon Carcharias ( Great White Shark )
Maverick Wagner Evolution
2/20/15
Evolution of the Carcharodon carcharias (Great White Shark) Did you know that sharks appeared in
the fossil record about 450 million years ago (Natural History Museum, N.D.)? Since we know that
sharks have existed for 450 million years we know that they have had to survive many mass
extinctions. In these mass extinctions many of the predators that preyed on sharks were killed off.
These mass extinctions that the sharks were able to survive gave them the perfect opportunity to rise
up in the food chain. The most well known shark of our time, the great white shark, is said to have
appeared about 11 million years ago (Shark Savers, N.D.).
The great white shark is one of many different species of cartilaginous fish that exist today. There are
approximately 350 species of sharks worldwide (SeaWorld, N.D.). Of these 350 different species of
sharks the great white shark in particular has become one of the most feared predators in the sea
leaving the question as to how it achieved this success. Some of the primary factors that have played a
big role in the great white s success as a predator are its keen sense of smell and its sharp teeth. One
interesting fact about its keen sense of smell is that great whites can detect one drop of blood in 100
liters of water and sense tiny amounts of blood up to three miles away making them adept at finding
prey that it has injured or an easy meal (National Geographic, N.D.). When it comes to

Thesis Statement On The Gettysburg Address
The tone and stage are set with the background of the great battle field of Gettysburg s. Our nation is
involved in a great civil war between its brothers with two different views and divisions. President
Lincoln has the daunting task as the President of the United States to bring healing to this torn
country; to remind the country that it was only 87 years earlier that this young country started on its
great experiment. The thesis statement answers the question and reminds the audience that all men are
created equal and that the basis on which our country was founded on was liberty and equality.
President Lincoln was trying to tie together the key principles of our founding fathers with freedom,
equality, and democracy which are embodied ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Panthers Research Paper
Front runner
In Carolina s two games this postseason, the Panthers have jumped out to huge leads. Leading 31 0
against the Seattle Seahawks in the Divisional Round and 24 7 against the Arizona Cardinals in the
NFC Championship Game at halftime of both games, the Panthers have become accustomed to front
running. Carolina has been a front running team all year, scoring early and often en route to a league
high 15 wins. If the Panthers can get out to a big early lead against the Broncos, Denver s offense
doesn t seem equipped to make a big comeback. Carolina quarterback Cam Newton, who was named
NFL MVP Saturday night, was the runaway front runner to win the award after a stellar regular
season.

The Panthers also have a knack of getting a little complacent and letting their opponents sneak back
into the game. Against the New York Giants in the regular season and against Seattle in the playoffs,
Carolina held an overwhelming lead but let both teams climb nearly all the way back. In the biggest
game of their lives, can the Panthers maintain their composure throughout the entire game? An extra
long half time break and the pre game hype that surrounds the Super Bowl could be a factor. Manning
hasn t always played well in the big game, just look at the Broncos 43 8 loss to the Seattle Seahawks
in the Super Bowl two years ago. Yet, Manning s and his teammates Super Bowl experience could be

Factory Farming Benefits
Pushing the Boundaries of Science: Industrial Agriculture
What is Industrial Agriculture? Also known as Factory Farming, Industrial Agriculture is a modern
type of agriculture, which involves high inputs of money, eliminating jobs (as well as creating
pollution) by using pesticides in place of heavy machinery, and a dense population of animals raised
on limited land requiring massive amounts of sustenance. (Sustainabletable.org, Industrial Livestock
Production ) FarmSanctuary.org states that Factory Farms abuse animals and exploit the environment
for profit in order to dominate U.S. food production. Environmentalists and animal lovers criticize
Factory Farms due to the controversy surrounding the treatment of animals and the potential effects ...

In chapter five, Victor Frankenstein expresses his horror: I beheld the wretch the miserable monster
whom I had created...His jaws opened, and he muttered some inarticulate sounds, while a grin
wrinkled his cheeks. He might have spoken, but I did not hear...fearing each sound as if it were to
announce the approach of the demoniacal corpse to which I had so miserably given life. The creature
to whom he has given life now terrifies Victor and makes him regret his decision. This raises the
question: When does science go too far? Like Frankenstein s creation of life, Factory Farms push the
limits of science by attempting to control a set part of nature. Industrial Agriculture exploits nature for
profit which is much like Frankenstein s desire to create life from dead matter; where the desire to
gain is more important than the consequences. Farm animals are similar to the Creature since they are
mistreated for no reason other than being non human. By detaining animals and making them suffer
for the sole means of food production, Agriculturists become a modern day

  • 2. Bob Dylan s Song The Hurricane Bob Dylan s song, The Hurricane is a story communicated through song. It is a tribute to a man whom Mr. Dylan felt compelled to tell the story of. It is a song of protest, fighting against racism. The Hurricane is not a real person, it doesn t breath, eat, or have a need to be safe and loved, it is not a man. Rubin Carter is a man, one who spent over 15 years of his life falsely imprisoned, robbed for time no one could ever replace. One of the first pivotal moments in this journey towards freedom is when Rubin sends Bob a copy of his autobiography, titled The Sixteenth Round: From Number 1 Contender to #45472. • 3. Analysis Of Thomas Middleton s The Crucible Analytical Research Paper Thomas Middleton s, Women Beware Women and Arthur Miller s The Crucible, are both set in the 1600s a time when women did not have any rights. Although both stories are completely different from each other, they share a common trait of bold, powerful women. In The Crucible, Abigail s jealousy and desire to have revenge on Elizabeth Proctor has her manipulate everyone in the town of Salem causing hysteria. Livia, the widow in Women Beware Women strategically manipulates every person to turn their backs on each other which creates a tragedy. Abigail and Livia are the villains in their community but how they acquire their power is very different. While Abigail s power comes from her intense desire for revenge on a specific person and then spreads throughout the community, Livia s motivation for power originates from her own boredom and desire for control on a large scale. Both of these characters are nothing short of cynical. They are motivated by self interest and cannot be trusted. Livia, is the sister to Hippolito and Fabritio and the aunt to Isabella. She is a wealthy woman on her own but her life went down hill after losing two husbands. There is no question that she is the essence of evil in Women Beware Women because she wants other people to be miserable as she once was. In The Psychological Drama of Women Beware Women written by Charles A. Hallett, he says, Cynicism is, in a sense, a mechanism developed by the unimaginative designed ... Many people think that the NCAA is as popular as professional sports. It s a fact that it s annual revenue can challenge this opinion. College football and basketball generate more than the National Basketball Association, a total of more than $6 billion yearly (Nocera, Joe). There is one major difference between the two associations, however. NBA players get paid for the all the money they help bring in, while NCAA athletes receive no compensation. The NCAA must decide whether if it is a business or not. If the NCAA became a nonprofit organization, then the association would have an argument against paying players. An article from the Sport Journal, the author relates to Kahn s argument that the NCAA acts as if it s a cartel with how it they go about their actions. According to his study, in 2005 a football player on draft boards out of high school is worth $495,000 and a draft ready basketball player is worth more than $1.5 million to the NCAA! (Johnson, Dennis A). This mean that a scholarship player is losing money and that their actual worth to the school is worth way more than the scholarship itself. That combine with players receiving no compensation for their play in sports that have major revenue, and are also restricted to when they can go professional, shows an oppressive policy meant to use these players for ... • 6. Ap Courses Should Not Be Offered At New West Essay Many schools in the country offer students the chance to take Advanced Placement courses. Every student has heard time and time again that taking these courses are necessary to prepare for life after high school. Unfortunately, that claim is not the truth and is being proven to be false each day. AP courses should not be offered at New West because they do not offer the opportunity to go into deep discussion on topics being taught, selective schools such as Dartmouth and Brown are not giving them as much importance, and because the courses affect the quality of the school for the worse. AP courses are not allowing students to delve into the material they are being taught. Students and school officials would be surprised on knowing this realization because many would argue that AP courses provide students with the best education the school offers. These courses are having instructors teach to the test so that the students have a better chance of getting into their preferred college. Many teachers are having to resort to teaching terrible skills to have the students excel in the AP exam. Students are taught to skip on the foundations of an essay and to score the maximum points on the grading rubric with just enough evidence to squeeze by, according to retired high school teacher Keith Bernstein. This type of teaching gives the example that students only need to meet the limit and not show their true potential. A lower GI examination, also know as a barium enema, is an x ray examination of the large intestine. The large intestine, or large bowel, consists of the entire colon, including the appendix, rectum, and sigmoid colon. This commonly performed test is essentially the predecessor to the more familiar colonoscopy. As the barium begins to fill your bowel you will feel some pain and pressure, and an urgency to have a bowel movement. The doctor will watch the barium as it moves through your intestine on a TV screen, using a special live x ray called fluoroscopy. You will be asked to turn to different positions, and the table may be tilted slightly to help the barium flow through your colon and to take x rays from different directions. Sometimes a slightly different version of the test may be done. It is called a double contrast barium enema. If a double contrast study is being done, the barium will be drained out, and then air will be injected into your colon. As you can imagine with the air contrast study, the amount of cramping and pain increases, due to the expansion of the bowel with air. After all of the films are taken the enema tube is removed, and you are taken to the restroom to expel the remaining barium and air. One or two films may be taken afterwards, to check how much barium is remaining in your bowel. The entire test takes anywhere from thirty minutes to one hour. After the exam you may resume a regular diet, and be sure to drink plenty of liquids to replace those you have lost and to help flush the remaining barium out of your system. During the ... This event gave many others the motivation to voice their opinions on media s negative images of women and to also get involved in organizations such as About Face (About Face). If more and more people learn about how much the media is effecting not only women but men and both of all ages, and get involved in more organizations that battle against this, it might not stop the media from doing what they are doing, but it could help others to follow their footsteps instead of falling into the media s negative wrath of unrealistic body image ... • 19. Free Soda Pop And The Promise Of A Five Course Breakfast If you would have told me twenty years ago that I would be where I am today I would have probably laughed at you. Growing up I never wanted for nothing and I had everything a little girl like me could possibly want. My parents ran a lake and a small local bait shop. For sixteen years we ran this little lake and I had it all. I had over eighty acres to play on, five different playgrounds with different equipment at every one of them, fishing, plenty of kids to play with during the summer time, a golf cart that I learned how to drive, free soda pop and the promise of a five course breakfast every weekend from some of our campers, I had a dad that I idolized, a mom who tried to teach me the important lessons in life, a sister to drive crazy, and a brother whom I got to see once in a while. I had it all when I was growing up and some of my class mates would make fun of me for being big, for being in a lower class, or simply because I was different. On the worst of days I would seek refuge in a little hidden world. The pine trees canopied over a certain spot and make different patterns across your skin. I would lay there for hours until Mama called for supper and watch as the bugs made a home and sometimes a squirrel would skitter around me in a hurry to get home to his family. The wind would blow through the trees and the sweet perfume would fill the air. Sometimes I would lay there until the tears would dry on my face and other times I would doze off until the sun started to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Affordable Food Argument Essay The United States prides itself on its freedoms and the many rights it guarantees to its citizens. A person has the right to religious freedom, to a trial by jury, to free speech, to free expression but what about the right to healthful food? At this point, no right in the United States explicitly guarantees citizens access to nutritious, affordable food. A possible reason for this is that guaranteeing equal access to food across the nation is a daunting task. How does one even begin to accomplish such a goal? But despite its difficulty, this is an end to which the nation must work. It is too important an opportunity to miss because of indolence. Access to healthful, affordable food should be a right of citizenship in the United States because the nation recognizes such access as a basic human right and because such access is arguably a more important right than many that we currently enjoy. There are no instruments and it is sung solo and in the Gaelic language. The melody is unmetered with a varying rhythm in each verse and likely based on the young lady s own pattern of speech. Because the song is unaccompanied, the singer is using a great deal of ornamentation to give the tune more interest and aesthetic appeal. She has a small bit of nasal timbre that is more noticeable at the end of certain phrases and, using some vibrato, she slides her notes to join words or phrases together. Both tunes have an extremely fast rhythm and are written in 4/4 time making them simple quadruple metered with 4 beats per measure. The rhythmic pattern appears to repeat itself in binary form, though it is difficult to follow. The tone in The Reel of Rio distinctly changes from low to high after two measures and in The Woman of the House the tone remains mostly the same up to the end. Both tunes are reels , which is the most popular tune type within the Irish dance music tradition (Reel). As with all reels, they have the same structure, consisting largely of quaver (eighth note) movement with an accent on the first and third beats of the bar. (Reel). These accents make it difficult for this writer to count out the beats and therefore, unable to imagine dancing to these tunes. Bibliography Cervantees, Lorna Dee. Article: The modern day toilet, while certainly convenient has one major flaw, it s built for sitting. And while sitting to eliminate is considered civilized , there s another position that may improve how you poop. And better elimination means less bloating, straining, hemorrhoids and constipation. A little history behind sitting What if I told you there was a more efficient way to poop? The bowel is the body s main elimination organ, yet amongst many Americans today, this central elimination system is compromised by something as simple as the position you choose to poop in. If you have less than three bowel movements a week, then you may be one of the millions suffering from constipation. So, before constipation gets the best of you, maybe it s time to go back to basics. The first seated toilets ever built were used primarily for royalty and the disabled. However, after the advent of indoor plumbing in the 1800s, the water closet was adapted with a porcelain throne to fit the average home. That meant, common folk could now poop in a civilized manner just like the queen. But prior to that, our ancestors were squatting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While the world has not always married people formally, the link between a wife, her husband, and both their families has been a significant part of history; however, things change. Many women cheat and have children that are not their husbands . It has been a problem since Mesopotamian society; at least, that is as far back as society can trace it. Ancient societies started making laws against the adultery of a woman and punished them for cheating. While the laws have disappeared, adultery has still continued through history. Both the The Demon Lover by Elizabeth Bowen and the Scottish ballad The Daemon Lover deliver messages in order to warn women to stay faithful to their partners, no matter the circumstances. Bowen s The Demon Lover expresses a warning to women during times of war. The story takes place at the beginning of World War 2 and tells the tale of a woman, Mrs. Drover, who remarried after her fiance was presumed dead during his time in the war, but many years later, received a letter from him. Within the context of pastoral literature, change is typically seen as a destructive force, intrinsic with the movement away from a harmony with the natural world towards modernisation and corruption. In Brideshead Revisited the same pattern appears to be followed; moving from the peaceful harmony of Sebastian and Charles life in Oxford into corruption and turmoil or the shifting power balance between the social classes, from the nobility to the lower classes. The painting that Charles spent hours working on is made absolute hay of , Charles created something of wonderful beauty, only to be destroyed by unappreciative men; symbolic for the fate of Britain, in Waugh s eyes, in the hands of the Youth . In respect of the changes Sebastian makes to Charles life, Waugh presents change as the antithesis of destructive. Before Sebastian, Charles friends are described as grey figures , lifeless and colourless boys whom scrambled fiercely for facts . Scrambled brings forth images of desperation, fiercely for facts heightening the mocking tone of the description, as though they had nothing other than facts to be passionate about. The first thing Waugh mentions about Sebastian, on the other hand, is the magical day him and Charles lay underneath a tree in the country with the sweet scent of tobacco merged with the sweet scents of summer around us and the fumes of the sweet, golden wine lifting them a finger s breadth above the turf . Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Stages Erikson s Psychosocial Stages Erik Erikson discussed psychosocial stages, his theory however was predicated upon Sigmund Freud s theory of psychosexual stages. According to Erikson, the ego develops as it prosperously resolves crises that are distinctly gregarious in nature. These involve establishing a sense of confide in others, developing a sense of identity in society, and availing the next generation prepare for the future. Erikson proposed a lifespan model of developing , taking in five stages up to the age of 18 old age and three further levels beyond, well into adulthood. Erikson suggests that there is still plenty of room for continued emergence and development throughout one s life. Erikson put a great mountain of stress on the adolescent time period , feeling it was a crucial stage for developing a person s identity. The outcome of this maturation timetable is a wide and integrated set of life skills and abilities that function together within the autonomous individual. However, instead of focusing on sexual development (like Freud), he was interested in how children socialize and how this affects their sense of self. Psychosocial Stages Erikson s (1959) theory of psychosocial development has eight distinct stages. 1. • 42. Essay on Critical Issue on Psychological Debriefing Critical Issue on Psychological Debriefing Two facts presented by Mitchell of the critical issue (Mitchell, 1983). The CISD protocol that Mitchell described was a group process of seven distinct phases. Prior to this Mitchell used a six stage model (Mitchell, 1983). The Society working party on psychological debriefing was given the aim of evaluating the available information and opinions and producing a clear statement on the status of psychological debriefing (Mitchell, 1983) Two facts presented by Devilly and Cotton on Critical issue Cotton and Devilly, (2003): Psychological debriefing is a technique employed by social workers, clinicians, etc in which victims are encouraged to relive traumatic experiences and are warned of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was said from the studies they all failed because they did not demonstrate a clear benefit of debriefing (McNally et al., 2003), with intervention groups and control groups reporting equivalent posttraumatic symptoms. Psychological debriefing responded to these results by claiming there is only one component of a comprehensive approach to crisis management and it is meaningless to evaluate the effectiveness of this one component as a singular intervention strategy (McNally et al., 2003). The heart of this debate is the issue of whether psychological debriefing might be a waste of resources (Brewin, 2001; McNally, 2004). Mitchell has been shown to be credible because of the seven steps he believes to be workable. In 1983, he introduced Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD). The model he developed was designed to prevent and manage the horror resulting from traumatic stress, and reduce the casualties among emergency service personnel. Mitchell model poses the below seven unique phases, which are integrated with stress education and information throughout the process. Introductory phase (rules and process explained). Fact phase (what they saw, heard, smelled, touched and did). Thought phase (first thoughts). Feeling phase (emotional reaction). Assessment phase (physical or psychological symptoms). Education phase (stress response syndrome). Re entry phase (referral information), (Kenardy et al., 1996, pg 38) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Response Paper On Rituals Response Paper #2 By Yaffa Segal From my understanding, a ritual is something that occurs more than once and has a meaning behind it. For example, a prayer. A more basic example could be brushing your teeth every morning after you wake up. Rituals are used both by humans and animals. Animals often have mating rituals. Humans have been performing rituals since the earliest of times for a variety of reasons. In the Stone Age, rituals could have been used to communicate with gods or dead ancestors. They could also have been used to mark different times of the year. For example, the different seasons. Rituals were a form of symbolic activity. Some rituals even involved masks or other carvings. Perhaps there was even a ritual for making a carving. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We use many forms of expression in this ritual. First of all, there are certain prayers that are said in synagogue. The prayers take a lot longer than normal, and generally finish around 2:30pm. On both the first evening and the second evening we eat simanim, which are symbolic foods. The first is honey in order to pray for a sweet new year. The custom is to dip an apple in honey. Another food is carrots so that G d will nullify any bad decrees. We eat beets so that our enemies will be removed. Another food is the head of a fish. Not everyone eats it, as many do not find it appealing. However, most people have a tiny piece from it. This is to symbolize that we be like the head and not the tail; always moving forward, not backwards. We eat leak (or cabbage) so that those who want to hurt us will be cut off. Other symbolic foods include dates, gourd, beats, and pomegranate seeds. We say a blessing on each one. One Rosh Hashanah, we wish others a shanah tova which means a good year. Rosh Hashanah is a time for judgement. G d writes your fate for the year. On Rosh Hashanah it is written and on Yom Kippur (about a week later) it is sealed. On Rosh Hashanah we are praying that G d will give us a sweet, new year and that nothing bad will happen to us. A major part of Rosh Hashanah is to blow the shofar, which is a hollowed out ram s horn. This shofar is a wake up call for us in order to remind us to wake up and repent for any of our wrongdoings. Although I have celebrated Rosh Hashanah every year since I was born, I actually do not know the origins of it. I have never thought about that before, and it is something I am definitely going to look ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Evolution Of The Carcharodon Carcharias ( Great White Shark ) Maverick Wagner Evolution 2/20/15 Evolution of the Carcharodon carcharias (Great White Shark) Did you know that sharks appeared in the fossil record about 450 million years ago (Natural History Museum, N.D.)? Since we know that sharks have existed for 450 million years we know that they have had to survive many mass extinctions. In these mass extinctions many of the predators that preyed on sharks were killed off. These mass extinctions that the sharks were able to survive gave them the perfect opportunity to rise up in the food chain. The most well known shark of our time, the great white shark, is said to have appeared about 11 million years ago (Shark Savers, N.D.). The great white shark is one of many different species of cartilaginous fish that exist today. There are approximately 350 species of sharks worldwide (SeaWorld, N.D.). Of these 350 different species of sharks the great white shark in particular has become one of the most feared predators in the sea leaving the question as to how it achieved this success. Some of the primary factors that have played a big role in the great white s success as a predator are its keen sense of smell and its sharp teeth. One interesting fact about its keen sense of smell is that great whites can detect one drop of blood in 100 liters of water and sense tiny amounts of blood up to three miles away making them adept at finding prey that it has injured or an easy meal (National Geographic, N.D.). Also known as Factory Farming, Industrial Agriculture is a modern type of agriculture, which involves high inputs of money, eliminating jobs (as well as creating pollution) by using pesticides in place of heavy machinery, and a dense population of animals raised on limited land requiring massive amounts of sustenance. The creature to whom he has given life now terrifies Victor and makes him regret his decision. This raises the question: When does science go too far? Like Frankenstein s creation of life, Factory Farms push the limits of science by attempting to control a set part of nature. Industrial Agriculture exploits nature for profit which is much like Frankenstein s desire to create life from dead matter; where the desire to gain is more important than the consequences.
