The Infancy Gospel Of James

The Infancy Gospel of James: Extracanonical Exposé
Controversial and embellished , the Infancy Gospels of James, otherwise known as the
Protoevangelium of James, has an extensive history in the archaeological sources of early canonical
Christian writings; yet, the precise date when it was first transcribed is unknown. However, scholars
know of two other ancient manuscripts that seem to refer to the Protoevangelium of James. Origen and
Clement of Alexandria both wrote in their personal commentaries on the synoptic gospels, of aspects
and storylines found in the Infancy Gospel. From this, one can reason that the Gospel would have to
be written some time before the two writers deaths. Origen died in 254 AD, while Clement of
Alexandria died in 215 AD. So the death of Clement of Alexandria and his explicit references to the
Infancy Gospel has helped scholars determine that the original document must have been written by
215 AD at the latest. Otherwise, the Infancy Gospel of James would have to have been written at just
before Origen and Clement of Alexandria had been born since there is no other evidence of scholars or
theologians writing about the Gospel prior to the aforementioned writings.
Concerning the proliferation of the Infancy Gospel, elements of the Gospel are found in over 130
Greek manuscripts, the vast majority of which can be dated back to the tenth century or

Assyrian Art And Its Influences Of Assyrian Art And Their...
Assyrian Art and Its Influences Assyrian art was long buried under the sands of time. The palaces
collapsed, and the grave of the city was unrecognizable. In Wilkinson s Some New Contacts With
Nimrud and Assyria he discusses these ancient people and their prevalence in today s museum society,
as well as their possible influences. The Assyrian people were very vicious and many descriptions of
them in the Bible do not describe them to the extreme that they describe themselves. Since Assyrian
art was buried for the longest time, people did not really understand them and their culture that well,
which is why people such as Layard, an archeologist, were eager to discover more. Wilkinson
describes how many museums didn t have any Assyrian exhibits until around the eighteen forties to
the eighteen fifties. Wilkinson uses descriptive details, and references to describe Assyrian artwork
and its prevalence to museum culture. Wilkinson describes Assyrian artwork in a very detailed way.
He does this too support his claims that Assyrian artwork is a mixture of many cultures. Wilkinson
states the since the Assyrian people conquered so many different groups of people, you are really able
to see that influence within their artwork. The descriptions of these pieces allow the audience to
follow his claims and make connections between artworks as well. For example, Wilkinson describes
one of the ivory carvings found stating that the row of pretty gazelles, with one of them licking her

Problems of Pressure Ulcers
Boettger, J. (1997). Effects of a Pressure Reduction Mattress and Staff Education on the Incidence on
Nosocomial Pressure Ulcers. Journal of Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing. 24 (1): 19 25.
Overview Pressure ulcers are serious problems surrounding hospital care. They cause the patient
considerable pain and interrupt recovery. There is physiological pain associated with serious tissue
necrosis as well as psychological trauma that is as a result of altered body image and dependency
needs. The problem is quite serious; about 9% of hospital patients and almost one quarter of all
nursing home patients are affected by pressure ulcers, with 60,000 deaths attributed to ulcer related
complications (Balestrino, 2000). The purpose of the Boettger study was to determine if a two
pronged approach to the issue would decrease the incidence of pressure ulcers: 1) replacing standard
hospital mattresses with a pressure reduction mattress, and; 2) educating and training the patient care
team on Agency for Health Care Policy and Research prevention guidelines for pressure ulcers
(Boettger, 1997).
Protection of Human Participants Consent to perform the research was obtained from an academic
institutional review board, but required no individual consent because the subject s privacy rights were
not violated and the variables studied were non sensitive. To protect patient confidentiality, study
numbers were used. The study was pre and post intervention, and the variables were meant to find

Positive Effects Of Deregulation In Airlines
The impact of deregulation
Deregulation provided a freely competitive market that would provide air service efficiently changes
due to deregulation eliminate of restrictions on which routes airlines could fly that airlines can add
new routes and remove old routes by themselves, not controlled by Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB).
Thus, deregulation make rapid expansion of the airline operations, also emerged of new airlines such
as low cost carriers (LCC), smaller airlines which would not squeezed out from the airline industry
base on the deregulation, also they can survive in airline industry with large airlines now.
After deregulation, airlines have developed a hub and spoke structure as spatial and the commercial

Also, the another factor is travel season. In the peak season for travelling, the number of traveller is
more than other travel season that more travellers and flights use the airport. Also, the airport need
more staff for the airport operation, so the revenue and cost of airport would be increase. However, in
the low season, the airport revenue and costs would be decrease because the number of traveller is less
than peak season, so no more people who use the airport than no more flight provide for traveller, and
the airport no need more staff for airport operation. Thus, airport s revenue and costs would be lower.
The main techniques for measuring airport economic performance
Furthermore, airport measure the economic performance based around the work load unit (WLU)
which mean handle 1 passenger or 100 kg freight how many costs would use, for example per WLU

Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry Of The Children
Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry of the Children Like many writers in the Victorian Age,
Elizabeth Barrett Browning used her poetry as a platform to reach a larger audience to bring
awareness to contemporary social issues (Greenblatt, Elizabeth Barrett Browning pp. 1,123). Common
issues that were written about during the Victorian Age included inequality between men and women,
child labor and the American abolitionist movement (1,123). According to the first footnote referenced
in her poem The Cry of the Children , Barrett Browning composed this literary piece in reaction to a
report distributed by a parliamentary commission following a government investigation that had
uncovered the mistreatment of child workers; and to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later in the poem, the poet suggested that the children should spend time picking flowers in a meadow
(57 59), however, the children implied that they would not know the difference between a cowslip and
a weed, Are your cowslips of the meadows / Like our weeds anear the mine? [ ] (61 62). Barrett
Browning brought awareness to the fact that children who were working in factories or mining for
coal had no time to play, relax or to just be kids. The loss of play time for these employed children
was one of the issues Barrett Browning stressed in her poem; whereas, other problems that these
children encountered included exhaustion and facing hazards daily. She conveyed to her readers how
tired the children were and how little energy they possessed (65 71); If we cared for any meadows, it
were merely / To drop down in them and sleep (67 68). She wrote about the exhaustion they
experienced and its consequences for the children, Our knees tremble sorely in the stooping / We fall
upon our faces, trying to go (69 70). She informed her audience of the dangers and difficulties that the
adolescents experienced each day. The children were required to move heavy loads, For, all day, we
drag our burden tiring (73). The adolescent workers were subjected to load noises that made their head

The Relevance of Maps in Natural and Human Sciences
In my opinion, a map is a representation of real life situations scaled onto paper, used to further
explain, describe and simplify information. It can be in the form of a model, a diagram or an actual
map showing features of the earth. When my Geography teacher in Form 4 taught the class about
Population, we couldn t really grasp the concept of how to determine the stages of countries in terms
of their birth rate and death rate, so he used the Demographic Transition Model that shows the stages
of birth rate and death rate as well as population growth of countries to further explain the stages of
development in countries, in relation to population. After his explanation of the model, 15 out of 17
students stated that they fully understood the topic as opposed to 5 out of 17 students in the class
before the class was introduced to the model. This goes to show that the model successfully simplified
the knowledge and aided us in further understanding the topic, thus proving its convenience only
when it simplifies knowledge. If it wasn t used to simplify the knowledge, it wouldn t have been
relevant in the situation. What I plan to do in this essay is to explore what it means to simplify
knowledge as well as discussing the relevance of maps in two areas of knowledge; Natural Sciences
and Human Sciences, as well as discuss the extent to which a map simplifies knowledge.
Simplifying knowledge means breaking it down from a complex form to a form in which most people

The Federal Health Care Act
The Federal Health Care Push: How Congress can Increase Insurance Affordability, Improve
Individual Access Reduce Wasteful Spending. According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
Services (CMS), health care spending in the United States has grown at a rate of 3.7 percent since
2012 to $2.8 trillion, costing the U.S. 17.9 percent of total its GDP and ranking it number one
spending on health care (Martin et al 67; world bank). Despite having the most expensive healthcare

One way the Federal Government can make healthcare more effective is to make it more affordable.
This can be accomplished by reintroducing the originally slated public option to the Affordable
Healthcare Act. The public option was originally included in the ACA and even passed the initial
House vote. However, it was later removed by the Senate Financial Committee and not included in the
final Senate bill that passed (citation needed). There are three reasons why the public option should to
be reintroduced into the health care system: to help control premium costs, increase marketplace
competition in rural areas and increase the quality and diversity of offered plans. Indeed, what is so
important about the national option is that it will naturally function as a benchmark , or price and care
baseline, within the current insurance exchange system mandated by the ACA (citation needed). By
virtue of currently existing systems such as Medicare, the public option will have access to superior
negotiating leverage that will help keep private competitive rates affordable. Indeed, according to the
Congressional Budget Office (CBO), administrative costs under the public Medicare plan are less than
2 percent of expenditures, compared with approximately 11 percent of spending by private plans
under Medicare Advantage (Nichols et al. 6). Furthermore, according to the Medicare Payment

Essay On Trusses
There are many different construction features and materials being used in the newer lightweight
construction. There are benefits and detriments to this advancement, most of which have been
detriments to the fire service. These new features have caused a lack of structural stability sooner in a
fire making it more dangerous for firefighters. For example, trusses and wooden I beams are made
with more lightweight materials. Trusses are now being made of lightweight wood connected by
metals gusset plates. These trusses are usually enclosed with particle board that has been breached by
utilities and ductwork. This allows for fire to spread quicker and for the truss to be exposed to fire
sooner. Wooden I beams are also made of plywood sheeting and lightweight wood glued together.
These I beams sometimes also may be breached by utilities and ductwork. Both of these makes it
dangerous for the firefighters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example a fire occurred on March 7th, 2002. It was a lightweight construction house where the
roof and floors were made of pre engineered wood truss, enclosed with a plywood sheeting. The fire
was in the basement and caused the first floor to collapse trapping two firefighters. Attempts were
made to rescue the down firefighters but they could not make access. If the firefighters were more
educated on the new lightweight construction they would have been more aware that with the
basement under heavy fire conditions and entering into the stairway that they would be aware of the
possible damage to the structure stability of the floor and not have sent the second crew in on the first
floor. The benefits of the new lightweight construction is that some are being built with sprinkler
systems and they are more airtight. With the buildings being more airtight it does not allow for more
oxygen to reach the fire but it also makes it dangerous because of the possibility for a

The artist creates a focal point with the only woman whose face viewers cannot see. The women s
dress appears to have caught on fire and produces luminosity around the chandelier, forming a shadow
within the corners of the room, which brings the viewers eyes from the main woman, up to the
chandelier, as shown in the picture to the left. Heffernan s paintings express her untamed imagination
with majestic fantasy, dream like subjects, yet she paints with a very classic technique. When I first
viewed The Self Portrait as Wunderkabinett, Michelangelo s Sistine Chapel came to mind.
Michelangelo illustrates the desire and describes the oneness that humans anticipate with God through
salvation. The artists painting technique is traditional, with the sensible and realistic proportions of the
human body, the distinguishing lines, the application of shadow, the intricate detail on every object
within the painting, and the use of traditional complementary color pairs. Julie Heffernan was born in
1956. She was raised in Northern California but resides in Brooklyn, New York today. She received a
BFA from the University of California, Santa Cruz and incredibly, her Masters of Fine Art in Painting
from the Yale School of Art. A significant moment that contributes to her talent as an artist was in

Heteronormativity In The Classroom Essay
Heteronormativity: The adverse aftermath of assumption
Heteronormativity. When you announce that word to a group of people, you will most likely be met
with blank stares. It may be a bit of a mouthful, but it is a topic becoming more of an issue in our
society, and one I wish to acknowledge. To put it simply, heteronormativity is the belief that everyone
falls into complementary genders (man and woman to you and me) with roles in life, and within these
roles heterosexuality is the only acceptable sexual orientation. This pigeonholing exists in all parts of
life, but let us turn our attention to school; that blissful utopia where opinions about what is acceptable
begin to form. Allow me, then, to take you back through time to your first day of school: trembling
and quivering you sit on a colourful carpet and your teacher begins to read...
Once upon a time... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These stories are patronisingly simplistic: we are indoctrinating these 5 year olds with stereotypes
about gender and families. Added to the mix is a lack of female representation as seemingly gender
neutral characters (exhibit A: Winnie the Pooh) are almost always presented as male. The books
teachers read to children in a classroom should be representative of the world we live in; not everyone
will live in a three bedroomed house, daddy in the office; mummy in the kitchen. So why are we
telling children, in reading them such stories, that this is the case? Further proof of this lies in the
phrase Boys will be boys that I m sure you will all have heard in the classroom, and at home. This
originated in the 16th century, a time when gender inequality was rife. So why are we still using it? By
using it nowadays we re giving boys to misbehave without consequence and perpetuating outdated
expectations of the way boys and girls behave. There must be a reason why 95% of prisoners are adult

Sterilization In Canada
Canada is a country that is undergoing advancements in all regions day to day. This growth has also
changed the mentality of people towards getting married and having kids, there has been a drastic
decrease in the fertility rate of Canada during the last 100 years; furthermore, the shrinkage of families
are linked to factors like medical advancements, economic trends, historical and psychological reasons
etc. We will discuss some of the major factors a family takes into consideration while planning about
expanding their family.
CHANGES IN LAW
Changes has happened in the areas of birth control, adoption and sterilization during the last decade.
Contraceptives were found illegal, liable to serve a two year jail sentence under the criminal code until
July 1 of 1969 (Mary, 2014), even jailed a druggist in Canada for selling condoms. Women then had to
rely on folk recipes and illegal abstinence to control fertility. Elizabeth bagshaw one of the first female

of undesirable physical and mental conditions which had the fear of inheriting and for the people who

Energy Radiation And Its Effect On The Cells
In the past, the applications of light, more specifically laser, in health and clinical applications have
been focused on its destructive phototoxic effects. This effect is associated with high energy radiation,
whereas low energy radiation has been found to induce a stimulating effect on the cells. The heat
inducing laser tissue ablation effect used in surgery and the disinfectant antimicrobial effect of light
therapy are distinctly different from the beneficial healing response stimulated by photobiomodulation
(PBM). The nonionizing and low power lasers used in PBM are in wavelengths of visible (660 nm),
near infrared (810 and 940 nm), and in some rare cases, mid infrared (1040, 2940, 9400 or 10400

penetration depth. Another prominent challenge is that, even though clinical studies using low level
light therapy (LLLT) or PBM has been shown to be successful through a variety experimental
studies6,8, the study of the molecular mechanisms involved in the trigger release effects haven t been
well documented. Most of the molecular level studies have been based on inclusion exclusion of
certain genetic dispositions, growth factors and receptors9,10. This article will, however, focus more
on the low power laser technology its selection, modulation, application, potential improvements, and
also brief description on some of the important optical imaging techniques that can be used in this

Professional Singers Enhanced Voice Quality
As a result of training, professional singers enhanced voice quality may be related to respiratory,

How Did Technology Shape American Culture
Technology and music have always been interlinked. As technology improves ways of recording and
distributing music improves. Over history we have gone from scratchy records to clear and portable
MP3s. New and innovative technology have helped to shape America s culture as a nation.
In 1877 the first human voice was recorded by Thomas Edison using tinfoil. He was attempting to
improve the telegraph when he realized that when he moved tape through the machine it made a noise
that sounded similar to speech. He then placed a stylus on to a cylinder made of tinfoil and spoke the
words of Mary had a little lamb into the makeshift machine.

Before music radio stations broadcasted things such as sermons, sports and the news. Department
stores would also have their own stations and they used them to advertise their merchandise.
In 1926 the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) began the National Broadcasting Network (NBC).
These were groups of stations that worked with local stations to syndicate radio shows. These shows
focused mostly on music and featured several different live performers. The types of music were
diverse and could vary from country to jazz.
The Golden Age of Radio was the time period of 1930 1955. During this time was the great depression
and radio was a way to listen to music and receive the news for free. It was a cheap way to have
entertainment instead of more expensive ways such as going to a live concert or the movies.
Eventually radio shows and broadcasts about news decreased in popularity. All that was left was
music. Radio networks transitioned to playing prerecorded music of popular artists. The most popular
type of station was a station that plays Top 40. Top 40 is the top 40 songs on the music charts in that
particular time period. FM or radio was introduced soon after this and it instantly became popular
because it offered music in a high

your common 9 to 5 work days. All surgeons work night shifts. Night shifts can last all night long (12
hours!) Some surgeries can even last over 12 hours. There are about 708,300 surgeons in the U.S.
(2014), and they get paid around 240, 440 dollars a year (BLS.gov). Surgeons get paid more by how
many years of experience they have. Also, they can get more because of how they work and if they re

but that s why they can go home and be on call to get some

James Levine Essay
Capping a career spanning 40 years as musical director for the Metropolitan Opera, with over 2,500
performances and 85 operas conducted, James Levine is to conduct one of his favorite operas, Die
Entführung aus dem Serail as his final work before retiring to the new position of Musical Director
Emeritus. In the final dress rehearsal, on the twentieth of April, Levine conducted the piece with the
energy, eccentricity, and excellence known nearly exclusively to him in his field. In the rehearsal,
Levine, as well as the standout coloratura soprano Albina Shagimuratova as Konstanze and bass Hans
Peter König as Osmin, displayed the gravitas and mastery of the Mozart opera to perfection. When W.
A. Mozart was a young boy, he was toured around Europe s courts as a prodigy by his father, Leopold
Mozart. Although tumultuous and nerve wracking for the young boy, his traveling did provide him
with the different styles and sounds from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The set designer, Jocelyn Herbert, through various pastel colors and Arabic architectural motifs, very
clearly articulates the middle eastern atmosphere. The set is also designed perfectly in a fashion so that
it does nothing to subtract from the context of the opera itself, but rather adds color and substance to
the action without requiring the audience to suspend very much disbelief. The costumes for the opera,
also designed by Ms. Herbert, were brilliant; the colors of the clothes of the Turks matched their
colorful surroundings, whilst the European characters were dressed in more monochrome, but elegant
garments that clearly distinguishes between the two. Along with the setting and costume, the blocking
of the opera is also very well done. The stage manager, John Dexter, was very clear to make each
movement sensical, whether it be for the libretto or the music, as opposed to some operas in which
movements are extremely grandiose and

Picture Day Narrative
Come on guys, we have to leave! my father says as I panic to find a shirt to wear. It is picture day,
usually an exciting day for my brother Mathew and I. I tear through my closet to find an okay fitting
shirt that isn t too tight, but doesn t look like I m hiding something. Trying on virtually every shirt in
my wardrobe, I settle on a black polo with brown buttons and a fading collar. It grabs my hips, my
stomach, and loose on my chest. Because the photo is only from the chest up, this is the perfect fit.
Running five minutes late, I see my reflection in the mirror while I brush my teeth, and realize I can t
see my jaw line anymore. I have no defined boarder between my chin and my neck. Trying to change

After having been compared to my brother for so long, our differences in athleticism being the
greatest among us, I finally was free to be my own person for no longer was I forced to fit into this
preconceived idea of what I should look like, and eventually, surpassing this standard my physique
was held to. Among other changes, my most gratifying moment was when I bought all new clothes,
for I had dropped from an XL in shirt size to an S, and my pants went from a 38 inch inseam to a 31

America s Expansion To The Appalachian Trail
The Appalachian Trail is America s first Scenic Trail. It stretches from Katahdin Mountain in Maine to
Springer Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest in Georgia. This stretch of the trail includes
some of the most difficult sections. Some trails are suitable for day hikes or short backpacking hikes.
There are 22 different hiking trails within the state of Maine. The first six are considered to be in
eastern Maine and provide several days worth of hiking adventure and natural wonders.
The trail is usually hiked south to north from Georgia to Maine between May and September to avoid
the brunt of the bad weather. There is also an unofficial expansion to the Appalachian Trail, which
starts from Canada, through Quebec and down into Maine.

The Watchmen Mythology
The Watchmen is a action, mystery, and sci fi film which is directed by Zack Snyder and tells the story
of a dystopia 1985. Each character in the film has their own significance and through the flashbacks of
certain characters we find out how the world, and the characters, ended up the way they did. When the
group of retired superheroes return from their retirement, they are called back together once again to
investigate the murder of the comedian who is one of their own. The death of the comedian leads to
his investigation which also leads Rorschach on the journey of a monumental conspiracy. After
analyzing the film the evidence of philosophy ideas and theories is very clear. With this particular sci

An example of a character representing an ethical theory is Ozymandias. Ozymandias represents the
theory of pleasure and pain as he focuses particularly on organized crime and earning a reputation as
the smartest man on the planet. Jeremy Bentham the philosopher believed that pleasure and pain are
the two motivating forces in life. Ozymandias knows that to gain the pleasure in what he wants can
cause pain but he chose the decision in life in which would give him a higher output of pleasure and a
lower output of pain and in the end he is deemed as the smartest man in the world. Another example of
ethical theories is how Ozymandius has a utilitarianism approach. He believes that the greatest amount
of good done to the greatest amount of people is the right way to go, even if it involves killing or lying
and this belief if called utilitarianism. In The Watchmen, Ozymandius displays his own ethical theory
which leads to him sort of helping save millions of lives because in the film he tries to make Doctor
Manhattan seem like the bad guy. He believes that humans are not capable of avoiding a nuclear war
because in his eyes World War III is inevitable and billions will be killed for sure. In the end,
Ozymandius actions are right because they are useful and are for the benefit of a majority of people.
Finally, Rorschach is also an example of a character in The

James Paul Gee Literacy Discourse Analysis
Linguist James Paul Gee introduces the concept of literacy discourse by defining language as both
what an individual says and how they present it. Literary language an important factor to maintaining
academic discourse, because as Gee suggests this influences discourses being used correctly .
Furthermore Gee suggests that in order to follow the intended guidelines correct discourse must say or
write the right thing in the right way while playing the right social role. (pg.6) Indeed, within my
academic experience using discourse here at Wayne State University, I agree with Gees definition of
student s adaptation of behavioral roles set by the institution. For example, students at Wayne State are
expected to achieve a steady progression ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the language that I use at home is not an acceptable form of academic discourse.
Therefore Gee illustrates the importance of the correct use of secondary discourses as a whole,
because as Gee suggests the demands of socialized institutions that require discourse fluency in
exchange for allowed apprenticeship is essential to maintaining participatory roles. (pg.8)Essentially
these roles as Gee suggests, within secondary discourse establish the characteristics of dominant and
non dominant discourse. Gee explains that dominant discourse requires a level of mastery of which, at
a particular place and time, brings with it the potential acquisition of social goods (pg.8) Contrary to
dominant discourse, non dominant discourse entails the mastery of which often brings solidarity with
a particular social network. (pg.8) In addition to the importance of discourse clarification, mush fake
discourse is defined as pretending to be a native speaker of the discourse. Which is similar to my
experiences with academic discourse as a college student at Wayne State University, by which overall
is not within mastery level. In conclusion, although I consider myself to be a part of the student
community, I also feel like I am pretending in

Reviewing Dr. Parker s new book Life s Work: A Moral Argument for Choice, Dunham expressed
amazement at the abortionist s work for religious women who are afraid to undergo the procedure. She
also revealed that she donated to Parker s abortion fund and urged her readers to also do the same to
help women have access to abortion, Breitbart relays.

Essay Victorian Era Fashion
Introduction The Victorian Era is a remarkable time in history with the blooming industries, growing
population, and a major turnaround in the fashion world. This era was named after Queen Victoria
who ruled United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from June 1837 until she passed away 64
years later in January 1901.When Victoria received the crown, popular respect was strikingly low. The
lack of respect for the position she had just come into did not diminish her confidence. Instead she
won the hearts of Britain with her modesty, grace, straightforwardness, and her want to be informed
on the political matters at hand even though she had no input. She changed Britain into a flourishing
country. She also impacted how women interacted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Queen Victoria was born on May 24, 1819, in Kensington Palace in London. Her parents were
Edward, the Duke of Kent, and Princess Victoria of Saxe Coburg. When Queen Victoria was 8 months
old her father passed away, and her mother reacted by shunning Victoria s uncles on her father s side,
William IV and George IV. Having had a secluded upbringing her personality hardened and she grew
into having strong prejudices towards others and became very stubborn. She was also inclined to self
pity. Her mother s advisor Sir John Conroy twisted her childhood from her. He was the one who had
convinced her mother to shun the uncles, and convinced her to raise Victoria by the Kensington
system. This system isolated Victoria from most, and, in Conroy s hopes, would make her depend on
him to rule the country. When both her uncle s passed away before succeeding the throne, at 18 years
old she became the Queen, and she did so alone. The one thing her mother did teach her was to be
cautious in who she friended. Victoria s memory held firm of those who mistreated her, and she was
not one to forgive and forget . Queen Victoria disagreed with some of the traditions and values that
had been around. For one she hated childbirth and everything to do with children, yet she was
supposed to represent motherhood and family and she did. Even though she

Case Mw Petroleum
3. Differences between APV and option valuation
Valuing MW Acquisition by using APV method assumes in practice that exploiting of all MW s
reserves is certain and happens right after the acquisition. In other words, the APV method excludes
the flexibility in future decision making. In this case, Apache has both an option to defer the exploiting
of reserves into future and Apache may also choose not to exploit the MW reserves at all.
As some of MW s reserves are actually real options, the APV valuation method actually
underestimates the real value of MW acquisition. If Apache defers the exploiting of the reserves, there
exists a possibility for the future cash flows becoming even more valuable. For example, Apache
could have more precise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is important to remember that the APV valuation and the option valuation calculations in
Exhibit 1 and 3 aren t straight forward comparable, since APV assumes financing the acquisition with
new $300 million debt and real option valuation is calculated assuming total equity financing. If the
tax rate remains constant, the real option valuation could be performed by taking the present value of
the tax shields into account. In this case the values obtained by real option valuation would be even
higher than the ones presented in the table.
As discounted cash flow method assumes all equity financed acquisition, it presents more comparable
value for the real option values shown. The value of Apache s possibility to decide whether to exploit
the reserves equals the difference between DCF value and the real option value.
4. Option valuation method
The future cash flows of MW s reserves contain a great amount of risk and have many possible future
outcomes. The real option valuation method takes into account the flexibility rising from this
uncertainty. Real options often are valued using financial option pricing techniques. However, there
are several things to be considered when treating reserves as options by using more specific Black
amp; Scholes model.
Firstly, there are some simplifications to be done to get all the necessary inputs for the Black amp;
Scholes model. One approximation to be made is the estimation of the

Character Analysis Of Spider Man
Peter Parker was having a great day at his field trip to Oscorp, until a radioactive spider bit him and
changed his life forever. Radioactive spiders are sadly not a scientific reality in our world today. If
they were, perhaps someone like Peter Parker would emerge as a real life web slinging superhero.
However, since no spiders are likely to bite any teenage boys from Queens, Peter Parker and Spider
Man will remain fictional characters. Despite this limitation, the character of Peter Parker manages to
inspire people of all ages and backgrounds across the world to achieve great things with the gifts they
have been given. Spider Man himself is a global phenomenon that has sparked countless

Peter chooses to help people around Queens out of the goodness of his heart, because he knows he has
the power to. Before Uncle Ben dies, he tells Peter that with great power comes great responsibility
(The Amazing Spider Man). Peter takes this advice to heart and uses his powers to protect those who
are unable to protect themselves. When asked by Tony Stark why he chooses to fight crime, Peter
says, When you can do the things that I can, but you don t... and then the bad things happen, they
happen because of you. (Captain America: Civil War). This statement shows how Peter has taken on
the burden of powers by devoting himself to stopping bad things from happening. Peter s willingness
to take up his responsibilities to save innocent lives makes him a great character. Peter Parker s
devotion to his family elevates his character to a higher standard. Peter is devastated when his uncle
dies but doesn t allow his grief to pull him away from his aunt. He does everything in his power to
protect Aunt May from finding out his secret, because he knows how much she would worry about
him. After his best friend finds out about Spider Man, Peter begs him not to tell Aunt May by saying
You know what she s like, if she finds out that there are people out there who try to kill me every night
she won t let me do this anymore! (Spider Man: Homecoming). By saying this, he shows that he is
willing to deceive his aunt in order to protect his city.

African Americans And Its Impact On Society
African Americans have been through so much since being uprooted from their home in Africa. Most
people do not understand what happened to African Americans and they understand what they had to
go through to be where they are today. It went from being kings in the comfort of their home to being
thrown on a boat packed like sardines to be forced to work in the fields. The trip was a massacre itself
because many did not make it due to the treatment from others. African Americans have always been
treated like outsiders and it took many people to sway the perception of others to be where they are
today. Through all the ups and downs African Americans persevered and made it out the struggle.
African Americans has always been treated badly all groups of people and they always looked down
on African Americans. Throughout the history involving African American, it showed the constant
inferiority treatment. African Americans were slaves years ago, people still look at blacks as less
important than other people. Slavery has a huge impact on our society today because people are still
bias and unfair towards African Americans, most African Americans are still living in poverty and don
t have proper education beyond high school which is why they don t have the equal opportunity for
jobs. African Americans still continue to sit in the shadow behind white people.
In the past history, African Americans were slaves and were looked at and thought of as less important
than whites. Still today

was a key player in what is regarded as one of the greatest American football games of the 20th
century. Starring in the 1967 USC vs. UCLA football game, his 64 yard touchdown run in the 4th
quarter tied the game. Simpson enjoyed the attention of the nation playing in a national championship

Short Answer Questions On Life Policy
Short Answer Questions Question 1 Rod and Trudi, both aged 35, are married and have two children
aged 8 and 5. Outline the possible advantages of them taking out a whole of life policy to cover their
family s financial protection needs, in preference to a level term assurance There are key benefits that
Rod and Trudi would receive if they took out a whole of life policy as opposed to a level term
assurance policy: Because life assurance companies know that they will have to pay out at some stage
on a whole of life policy, premiums are used to build up a reserve, to be paid out when death occurs. If
the policy is surrendered while the lives assured are still alive, a surrender value can be available. This
value could be used to fund a number of family needs, such as future education costs. Term assurance
is only payable if death occurs, which means there will be no value in cash should the policy be
stopped. A whole of life policy has no term, which means that as long as the premiums are maintained,
the policy will be in place until the policyholder s death, whenever that occurs. This is important for
Rod and Trudi, because although life assurance protection is particularly important while the children
are growing up, there will probably be a need for permanent life cover continuing beyond that. Term
assurance on the other hand, only runs for a set term of years. This means that there would be no life
assurance protection if death occurred after the policy

The Perception Of Human Attitudes And Values
From this class I learned that the circumstances that you are born into and raised in help shape who
you become. Our attitudes and values are shaped early on by those who around us most frequently and
hold positions of power in our estimation. As children we both listen and observe the adults around us.
Without realizing it, we often take on their points of view until we are challenged. Moreover, few
people realize that their deeply held beliefs actually exist because of someone else. Most people are
not challenged on their beliefs and values, instead we tend to congregate with other people who share
and reinforce our values. When we are challenged and even presented with empirical facts that run
counter to our beliefs we are hesitant to change our minds. This is called belief perseverance. Humans
use inductive reasoning to support their cognitive bias. Most humans do this. It is hard to simply let of
an ingrained notion and take a counter stance. Since facts and information to the contrary does not
work effectively to change people s minds, the only option is repeated exposure and experience with
the irrefutable facts. An example would be someone being raised to believe that all homosexual men
are also violent pedophiles, despite not knowing any homosexual men in real life. Simply telling them
that this is not the case is not likely to change their minds, but repeated positive experiences with a
friendly gay neighbor who is a parent, a doctor, a church goer and never

Alka Seltzer Dissolving Lab
In this lab we tested how changing the content of the water affects the speed of the alka seltzer
dissolving. My hypothesis was that the tap water would dissolve the tablet fastest, the salt water would
be second fastest, and the sugar water would be the slowest. I was correct that the tap water would
dissolve the fastest, but I was wrong in that the salt water would dissolve faster than the sugar water. I
think that our results came out the way they did because of the amount of sugar and salt we put into
the water. When we put the sugar and salt into the beakers, we came up with those measurements on
the spot. After the salt and sugar had been added, the salt water was very cloudy, but you could barely
tell the tap water from the sugar water.

  • 2. The Infancy Gospel Of James Ryan Scott Travis, Chelsea Wales, Paige Woods, Daniel Zydel Dr. Ann Coble REL 3015 3 February 2015 The Infancy Gospel of James: Extracanonical Exposé Controversial and embellished , the Infancy Gospels of James, otherwise known as the Protoevangelium of James, has an extensive history in the archaeological sources of early canonical Christian writings; yet, the precise date when it was first transcribed is unknown. However, scholars know of two other ancient manuscripts that seem to refer to the Protoevangelium of James. Origen and Clement of Alexandria both wrote in their personal commentaries on the synoptic gospels, of aspects and storylines found in the Infancy Gospel. From this, one can reason that the Gospel would have to be written some time before the two writers deaths. Origen died in 254 AD, while Clement of Alexandria died in 215 AD. So the death of Clement of Alexandria and his explicit references to the Infancy Gospel has helped scholars determine that the original document must have been written by 215 AD at the latest. Otherwise, the Infancy Gospel of James would have to have been written at just before Origen and Clement of Alexandria had been born since there is no other evidence of scholars or theologians writing about the Gospel prior to the aforementioned writings. Concerning the proliferation of the Infancy Gospel, elements of the Gospel are found in over 130 Greek manuscripts, the vast majority of which can be dated back to the tenth century or ... • 3. Assyrian Art And Its Influences Of Assyrian Art And Their... Assyrian Art and Its Influences Assyrian art was long buried under the sands of time. The palaces collapsed, and the grave of the city was unrecognizable. In Wilkinson s Some New Contacts With Nimrud and Assyria he discusses these ancient people and their prevalence in today s museum society, as well as their possible influences. The Assyrian people were very vicious and many descriptions of them in the Bible do not describe them to the extreme that they describe themselves. Since Assyrian art was buried for the longest time, people did not really understand them and their culture that well, which is why people such as Layard, an archeologist, were eager to discover more. Wilkinson describes how many museums didn t have any Assyrian exhibits until around the eighteen forties to the eighteen fifties. Wilkinson uses descriptive details, and references to describe Assyrian artwork and its prevalence to museum culture. Wilkinson describes Assyrian artwork in a very detailed way. He does this too support his claims that Assyrian artwork is a mixture of many cultures. Wilkinson states the since the Assyrian people conquered so many different groups of people, you are really able to see that influence within their artwork. The descriptions of these pieces allow the audience to follow his claims and make connections between artworks as well. For example, Wilkinson describes one of the ivory carvings found stating that the row of pretty gazelles, with one of them licking her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Journal of Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing. 24 (1): 19 25. Overview Pressure ulcers are serious problems surrounding hospital care. They cause the patient considerable pain and interrupt recovery. There is physiological pain associated with serious tissue necrosis as well as psychological trauma that is as a result of altered body image and dependency needs. The problem is quite serious; about 9% of hospital patients and almost one quarter of all nursing home patients are affected by pressure ulcers, with 60,000 deaths attributed to ulcer related complications (Balestrino, 2000). The purpose of the Boettger study was to determine if a two pronged approach to the issue would decrease the incidence of pressure ulcers: 1) replacing standard hospital mattresses with a pressure reduction mattress, and; 2) educating and training the patient care team on Agency for Health Care Policy and Research prevention guidelines for pressure ulcers (Boettger, 1997). Protection of Human Participants Consent to perform the research was obtained from an academic institutional review board, but required no individual consent because the subject s privacy rights were not violated and the variables studied were non sensitive. To protect patient confidentiality, study numbers were used. The study was pre and post intervention, and the variables were meant to find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry Of The Children Elizabeth Barrett Browning s The Cry of the Children Like many writers in the Victorian Age, Elizabeth Barrett Browning used her poetry as a platform to reach a larger audience to bring awareness to contemporary social issues (Greenblatt, Elizabeth Barrett Browning pp. 1,123). Common issues that were written about during the Victorian Age included inequality between men and women, child labor and the American abolitionist movement (1,123). According to the first footnote referenced in her poem The Cry of the Children , Barrett Browning composed this literary piece in reaction to a report distributed by a parliamentary commission following a government investigation that had uncovered the mistreatment of child workers; and to ... Later in the poem, the poet suggested that the children should spend time picking flowers in a meadow (57 59), however, the children implied that they would not know the difference between a cowslip and a weed, Are your cowslips of the meadows / Like our weeds anear the mine? [ ] (61 62). Barrett Browning brought awareness to the fact that children who were working in factories or mining for coal had no time to play, relax or to just be kids. The loss of play time for these employed children was one of the issues Barrett Browning stressed in her poem; whereas, other problems that these children encountered included exhaustion and facing hazards daily. She conveyed to her readers how tired the children were and how little energy they possessed (65 71); If we cared for any meadows, it were merely / To drop down in them and sleep (67 68). She wrote about the exhaustion they experienced and its consequences for the children, Our knees tremble sorely in the stooping / We fall upon our faces, trying to go (69 70). She informed her audience of the dangers and difficulties that the adolescents experienced each day. The children were required to move heavy loads, For, all day, we drag our burden tiring (73). • 8. The Relevance of Maps in Natural and Human Sciences In my opinion, a map is a representation of real life situations scaled onto paper, used to further explain, describe and simplify information. It can be in the form of a model, a diagram or an actual map showing features of the earth. When my Geography teacher in Form 4 taught the class about Population, we couldn t really grasp the concept of how to determine the stages of countries in terms of their birth rate and death rate, so he used the Demographic Transition Model that shows the stages of birth rate and death rate as well as population growth of countries to further explain the stages of development in countries, in relation to population. After his explanation of the model, 15 out of 17 students stated that they fully understood the topic as opposed to 5 out of 17 students in the class before the class was introduced to the model. This goes to show that the model successfully simplified the knowledge and aided us in further understanding the topic, thus proving its convenience only when it simplifies knowledge. If it wasn t used to simplify the knowledge, it wouldn t have been relevant in the situation. What I plan to do in this essay is to explore what it means to simplify knowledge as well as discussing the relevance of maps in two areas of knowledge; Natural Sciences and Human Sciences, as well as discuss the extent to which a map simplifies knowledge. Simplifying knowledge means breaking it down from a complex form to a form in which most people would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), health care spending in the United States has grown at a rate of 3.7 percent since 2012 to $2.8 trillion, costing the U.S. 17.9 percent of total its GDP and ranking it number one spending on health care (Martin et al 67; world bank). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One way the Federal Government can make healthcare more effective is to make it more affordable. This can be accomplished by reintroducing the originally slated public option to the Affordable Healthcare Act. The public option was originally included in the ACA and even passed the initial House vote. However, it was later removed by the Senate Financial Committee and not included in the final Senate bill that passed (citation needed). There are three reasons why the public option should to be reintroduced into the health care system: to help control premium costs, increase marketplace competition in rural areas and increase the quality and diversity of offered plans. Indeed, what is so important about the national option is that it will naturally function as a benchmark , or price and care baseline, within the current insurance exchange system mandated by the ACA (citation needed). By virtue of currently existing systems such as Medicare, the public option will have access to superior negotiating leverage that will help keep private competitive rates affordable. Indeed, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), administrative costs under the public Medicare plan are less than 2 percent of expenditures, compared with approximately 11 percent of spending by private plans under Medicare Advantage (Nichols et al. 6). Furthermore, according to the Medicare Payment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Essay On Trusses There are many different construction features and materials being used in the newer lightweight construction. There are benefits and detriments to this advancement, most of which have been detriments to the fire service. These new features have caused a lack of structural stability sooner in a fire making it more dangerous for firefighters. For example, trusses and wooden I beams are made with more lightweight materials. Trusses are now being made of lightweight wood connected by metals gusset plates. These trusses are usually enclosed with particle board that has been breached by utilities and ductwork. This allows for fire to spread quicker and for the truss to be exposed to fire sooner. Wooden I beams are also made of plywood sheeting and lightweight wood glued together. These I beams sometimes also may be breached by utilities and ductwork. Both of these makes it dangerous for the firefighters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example a fire occurred on March 7th, 2002. It was a lightweight construction house where the roof and floors were made of pre engineered wood truss, enclosed with a plywood sheeting. The fire was in the basement and caused the first floor to collapse trapping two firefighters. Attempts were made to rescue the down firefighters but they could not make access. If the firefighters were more educated on the new lightweight construction they would have been more aware that with the basement under heavy fire conditions and entering into the stairway that they would be aware of the possible damage to the structure stability of the floor and not have sent the second crew in on the first floor. The benefits of the new lightweight construction is that some are being built with sprinkler systems and they are more airtight. With the buildings being more airtight it does not allow for more oxygen to reach the fire but it also makes it dangerous because of the possibility for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The building was designed with a contemporary style and is an outward expression of its artistic, belongings inside. I visited the Museum on Tuesday, July 02, 2013, at around 2 in the afternoon. I was within the museum for about 2 ½ hours, observing the exhibits. The building itself exceeded my expectations, but the inside took my breath away. The artist creates a focal point with the only woman whose face viewers cannot see. The women s dress appears to have caught on fire and produces luminosity around the chandelier, forming a shadow within the corners of the room, which brings the viewers eyes from the main woman, up to the chandelier, as shown in the picture to the left. Heffernan s paintings express her untamed imagination with majestic fantasy, dream like subjects, yet she paints with a very classic technique. When I first viewed The Self Portrait as Wunderkabinett, Michelangelo s Sistine Chapel came to mind. Michelangelo illustrates the desire and describes the oneness that humans anticipate with God through salvation. The artists painting technique is traditional, with the sensible and realistic proportions of the human body, the distinguishing lines, the application of shadow, the intricate detail on every object within the painting, and the use of traditional complementary color pairs. Julie Heffernan was born in 1956. She was raised in Northern California but resides in Brooklyn, New York today. She received a BFA from the University of California, Santa Cruz and incredibly, her Masters of Fine Art in Painting from the Yale School of Art. • 12. Heteronormativity In The Classroom Essay Heteronormativity: The adverse aftermath of assumption Heteronormativity. When you announce that word to a group of people, you will most likely be met with blank stares. It may be a bit of a mouthful, but it is a topic becoming more of an issue in our society, and one I wish to acknowledge. To put it simply, heteronormativity is the belief that everyone falls into complementary genders (man and woman to you and me) with roles in life, and within these roles heterosexuality is the only acceptable sexual orientation. This pigeonholing exists in all parts of life, but let us turn our attention to school; that blissful utopia where opinions about what is acceptable begin to form. Allow me, then, to take you back through time to your first day of school: trembling and quivering you sit on a colourful carpet and your teacher begins to read... Once upon a time... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These stories are patronisingly simplistic: we are indoctrinating these 5 year olds with stereotypes about gender and families. Added to the mix is a lack of female representation as seemingly gender neutral characters (exhibit A: Winnie the Pooh) are almost always presented as male. The books teachers read to children in a classroom should be representative of the world we live in; not everyone will live in a three bedroomed house, daddy in the office; mummy in the kitchen. So why are we telling children, in reading them such stories, that this is the case? Further proof of this lies in the phrase Boys will be boys that I m sure you will all have heard in the classroom, and at home. This originated in the 16th century, a time when gender inequality was rife. So why are we still using it? By using it nowadays we re giving boys to misbehave without consequence and perpetuating outdated expectations of the way boys and girls behave. Energy Radiation And Its Effect On The Cells In the past, the applications of light, more specifically laser, in health and clinical applications have been focused on its destructive phototoxic effects. The heat inducing laser tissue ablation effect used in surgery and the disinfectant antimicrobial effect of light therapy are distinctly different from the beneficial healing response stimulated by photobiomodulation (PBM). The nonionizing and low power lasers used in PBM are in wavelengths of visible (660 nm), near infrared (810 and 940 nm), and in some rare cases, mid infrared (1040, 2940, 9400 or 10400 nm)1. Outline the possible advantages of them taking out a whole of life policy to cover their family s financial protection needs, in preference to a level term assurance There are key benefits that Rod and Trudi would receive if they took out a whole of life policy as opposed to a level term assurance policy: Because life assurance companies know that they will have to pay out at some stage on a whole of life policy, premiums are used to build up a reserve, to be paid out when death occurs. If the policy is surrendered while the lives assured are still alive, a surrender value can be available. This value could be used to fund a number of family needs, such as future education costs. Term assurance is only payable if death occurs, which means there will be no value in cash should the policy be stopped. A whole of life policy has no term, which means that as long as the premiums are maintained, the policy will be in place until the policyholder s death, whenever that occurs. This is important for Rod and Trudi, because although life assurance protection is particularly important while the children are growing up, there will probably be a need for permanent life cover continuing beyond that. Term assurance on the other hand, only runs for a set term of years. This means that there would be no life assurance protection if death occurred after the policy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Perception Of Human Attitudes And Values From this class I learned that the circumstances that you are born into and raised in help shape who you become. Our attitudes and values are shaped early on by those who around us most frequently and hold positions of power in our estimation. As children we both listen and observe the adults around us. Without realizing it, we often take on their points of view until we are challenged. Moreover, few people realize that their deeply held beliefs actually exist because of someone else. Most people are not challenged on their beliefs and values, instead we tend to congregate with other people who share and reinforce our values. When we are challenged and even presented with empirical facts that run counter to our beliefs we are hesitant to change our minds. This is called belief perseverance. Humans use inductive reasoning to support their cognitive bias. Most humans do this. It is hard to simply let of an ingrained notion and take a counter stance. Since facts and information to the contrary does not work effectively to change people s minds, the only option is repeated exposure and experience with the irrefutable facts. An example would be someone being raised to believe that all homosexual men are also violent pedophiles, despite not knowing any homosexual men in real life. Simply telling them that this is not the case is not likely to change their minds, but repeated positive experiences with a friendly gay neighbor who is a parent, a doctor, a church goer and never ... • 36. Alka Seltzer Dissolving Lab In this lab we tested how changing the content of the water affects the speed of the alka seltzer dissolving. My hypothesis was that the tap water would dissolve the tablet fastest, the salt water would be second fastest, and the sugar water would be the slowest. I was correct that the tap water would dissolve the fastest, but I was wrong in that the salt water would dissolve faster than the sugar water. I think that our results came out the way they did because of the amount of sugar and salt we put into the water. When we put the sugar and salt into the beakers, we came up with those measurements on the spot. After the salt and sugar had been added, the salt water was very cloudy, but you could barely tell the tap water from the sugar water. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
