My Observation Of Large Group Speech At The Iowa State...
While sitting between two of the best speech coaches in Northwest Iowa, I felt my heart race as
they began announcing the Critic s Choice Award for the ten different areas of large group
speech. The atmosphere was that of the Academy Awards in CY Stephens Auditorium at Iowa
State University for the 31st IHSSA All State Large Group Speech Festival on Saturday,
February 18. Students sat on the main level of the packed auditorium while family and friends
filled the balcony. As I glanced over at Joel Stauffer and Todd McDonald, I realized there was no
other place I would rather be. Our choral reading, Wild at Heart earned a chance to perform at the
festival. The only times our school has won a banner was in 1991 for the ensemble, Night
Mother under the direction of Mr. McDonald and in 1981 for duet acting. Earning a banner is a
hard thing to do. There are no classes in speech competition; all 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A schools are
grouped together. According to the Iowa... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He told us there was no question about it. Everything felt like a whirlwind as we made our way
up to the stage in front of thousands of people. As I nervously stood on stage, I took the time to
look at each of my speech kids, sitting there celebrating their success. This was definitely a team
accomplishment. I thought about the 104 students who participated in sixteen groups this year and
all of the students who have touched my heart in previous years. I also thought of my time serving
as an assistant coach to an amazing head coach, Joel Stauffer. I smiled as I thought about all the
times Todd McDonald made me laugh aloud during practices this year. I reminisced about my time
working with an awesome coach, Tracy Jacobsma. I realized how blessed I am to have the
opportunity to work with such wonderful students, parents, teachers, and

Gender Inequality In Sociology And Gender Roles
In Sociology, gender roles are a big part of everyday discussion. With that comes the controversy
with gender inequality. The differences of what it really means to be an equal gender nation has
been around for years, but it has been becoming more and more popular with politics and media
recently. Females are portrayed as inferior to males when they should be treated as equals in today
s society. We have come a long way since the Women s Rights Movement in the 1800s, but there is
still work to be done. To better understand genderinequality, it is important to understand the root
where it came from, specific manifestations dealt with gender inequality, and solutions on how to
make gender inequality a term of the past. Gender inequality is the social process by which
people are treated differently and disadvantageously, under similar circumstances, on the basis of
gender (Gender inequality, 2017). This means that one gender is not being treated equally
compared to another gender and in most cases it is women. The roots of gender inequality are not
from any recent time. In China, they actually are dated back 2,500 years to the Bronze Age
according to a recent study from Queens College in New York City. Studies were done by
scientists who examined Neolithic Age graves from the Chinese Central Plains about 5,000 years
ago. They reported their findings when they examined their bones for signs of stress. Their
examinations concluded that there was a significant change in

Axonal Nerve Injuries
Introduction
Nerve injury is not fatal but can severely impact quality of life. Peripheral nerve injuries occur in
an estimated 2 3% of all patients admitted to a Level 1 trauma center (1) and are commonly caused
by trauma to the upper limbs. The economic impact of nerve injuries can be large with operative
costs, hospital charges, rehabilitation visits, and lost time at work. Only subtle improvements to
peripheral nerve repair have been made recently, and our current knowledge of nerve physiology
and regeneration vastly exceeds our current repair capabilities.
Poor outcomes of peripheral nerve injury are largely due to the slow process of axonal outgrowth.
After nerve injury, severed proximal axons with intact cell bodies can grow up ... Show more

The proposed mechanism is PEG induced lipid bilayer fusion by removing the hydration barrier
surrounding the axolemma and reducing the activation energy required for membrane fusion to
occur. In an axonal injury without PEG, axonal endings seal after an influx of calcium,
preventing axonal fusion (6). Figure 1 demonstrates the bioengineered process of PEG fusion.
When severed axonal endings are exposed to calcium free hypotonic saline and an antioxidant
(i.e. Methylene Blue or Melatonin), vesicle mediated sealing is decreased, keeping membrane
leaflets open. PEG is then applied to artificially induce closely apposed membranes of severed
axonal ends to flow into each other and fuse. This produces a partial repair of the plasmalemmal
membranes that are then perfused with calcium containing saline, which causes vesicles to
accumulate and seal remaining holes at the injury site. This process is known as PEG fusion.
The success of our PEG fusion technique is based on multiple factors including PEG, calcium,
nerve stump approximation, and an antioxidant Methylene Blue (MB) (Figure 1). PEG, a
hydrophilic compound, enhances axonal fusion in either severed or crushed settings and restores
the ability to generate compound action potentials across the site of injury. PEG potentially
facilitates lipid bilayer fusion by removing water molecules from the lipid bilayer at or near the
damage site (Figure

Argumentative Essay On Community Colleges
Community colleges are meant to be largely funded by tuition localities and states. However, as
reported by the Washington Post, this is not the case in Florida (Danielle 2016). In 2008, the
counties offered no support to the community colleges because of the financial crisis. This has
changed over the past few years, though very little funding is still given to the community colleges
by the counties. Since community colleges are meant to offer opportunities to people who cannot
continue with higher education, the needs of these students may be higher than the funding that
the county offers for tuition. As a result, the community colleges are divided into bronze, silver
and gold schools. The largest share is allocated to the gold schools whereas the silver and bronze
receive smaller shares or none at all for the bronze schools. Most students in Florida are
encouraged to pass through community colleges before proceeding to universities to polish their
grades (Danielle 2016). Florida s universities on the other hand get funded by both federal and state
government. There are other ways in which these community colleges and universities in Florida
and other higher learning institutions in the US get funded. These include: personal or family loans
and savings, provision of scholarships by the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

George Eliot s Middlemarch
In George Eliot s Middlemarch, Will Ladislaw is introduced as Mr. Casaubon s young cousin.
He is seen in the gardens at Lowick Manor and described as a gentleman with a sketch book [...]
and light brown curls (49). Mr. Casaubon describes him as a young man who with a mercurial
temperament, general inclination to resist responsibility and an affinity towards grand artistic
endeavors. Later in the book, town gossip Mrs. Cadwallader refers to him as a dangerous little
sprig [...] with his opera song and his ready tongue. A sort of Byronic, amorous conspirator (237).
In Middlemarch, Eliot weaves a character with a Romantic character into the social web of a
provincial Victorian village. Eliot s depiction of Ladislaw s coming of age journey... Show more

In his Preface, Wordsworth claims that the principle objective of his poetry was, to choose
incidents and situations from common life, and to relate or describe them, throughout, as far as
was possible in a selection of language really used by men, and, at the same time, to throw over
them a certain coloring of imagination, whereby ordinary things should be presented to the mind in
an unusual aspect. (294)
The Victorian approach to knowledge which took on the form of large scale surveys, like Mr.
Casaubon s Key to All Mythologies, and factual explorations of absolute truths, like Dr. Lydgate s
practice of medicinal research. Unlike these grandiose projects, Wordsworth and Ladislaw stand
for an exploration of the world through human understanding. In explaining the nature of his work,
Ladislaw tells Dorothea that being a poet is having the kind of soul in which knowledge passes
instantaneously into feeling, and feeling flashes back as a new organ of knowledge (142). In
stating this, Eliot is in direct conversation with Wordsworth s claim regarding the objective of the
Romantic poet. The Romantics believed that the physical nature of objects was intrinsically
attached to the effect they had on the perceiver and the true pursuit of knowledge didn t discount
either of these two aspects. There is a key difference in the

Debussy s Portfoliographie-Personal Narrative
Shoving the door open with my hip, I enter the dingy practice room, my hands full of books and
school supplies. It takes me two strides to walk from the door to the mahogany piano up against
the far wall, where it sits exactly as I left it last night. I drop my things on the floor, pull the small
bench out from beneath the pianoand sit upon it, making myself as comfortable as possible on the
worn cushions. Debussy s Reverie erupts from my fingers without even thinking twice. The old
piano keys don t shy away from my touch; in fact, they almost seem to quiver with delight at
every note I play. Of course, playing one piano alone for an entire year may have that effect. My

cold. Even if you lived in Africa, you d still be cold. Derik s comment makes me laugh, but the
door to the practice room inching open stops it in my throat. Derik notices me eyeing the door
and glances at it. What? What did you see? I don t know. I shake my head, rubbing my eyes. I
thought I saw someone opening the door. Derik gets off of the piano bench and creeps over to
the doorway. He grabs the edge of the door and opens it slowly. A hand suddenly reaches out and
grabs Derik by the wrist. He starts and I almost scream, but I realize that I recognize those
perfectly French manicured nails. It takes me two seconds to walk from the piano to the door and
by that time, Brielle has already started dragging Derik down the hall. Autumn! He whispers,

The Case Of Sino Forest And Ernst And Young
The Effects of Fraud:
The Case of Sino Forest and Ernst Young
In today s global economy, investors must rely on information provided by the various companies
listed on the stock exchanges in order to determine if a company is a good investment, or a poor
one. In order to make informed decisions, investors want to see financial statements that have been
proven to be correct; they do not want to risk losing the amounts they have invested if they were to
choose to invest in a company that was not being truthful about their financial standings. To reduce
this risk, publicly traded companies must have and audit of their annual financial statements. These

Though the situation of fraud appears to be black and white, what is there to be said about the
auditors who do not detect the fraud committed by their clients? Where they incompetent in their
audit of the financial statements, or were they somehow involved in the fraudulent activities? A
case that demonstrates the consequences to auditors when fraud is found to have been perpetrated
by a client is that of Ernst Young and the lumber company, Sino Forest. Sino Forest is a Canadian
Chinese timber company that was listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange; before the fraud
allegations, it was the most valuable forestry company on the TSX. (The Canadian Press, CBC,
2012) However, it was accused of fraudulently overstating its timber assets, supposedly located in
China. Through its investigation, the Ontario Securities Commission found that
Sino held undisclosed control over the network of third parties through which it conducted purchase
and sale transactions. In turn, these deals were backed by fraudulent contracts that were not drafted
until the quarter after they allegedly took place and revenue from them was recognized. (Koven,
2012)
In other words, Sino Forest did not inform the auditors, or the public, that they had control over
their third party suppliers and customers.

Wisdom In Ancient Greek And Greek-American Culture
Wisdom, for the majority of people, is viewed as valuable or desirable, but how is wisdom
defined? Aside from Oxford Dictionaries description of wisdom: The quality of having
experience, knowledge, and good judgment; the quality of being wise, in what other degrees can
wisdom be characterized? Regularly, in many cultures, children are taught to respect their elders
because they are wise; because wisdom resides in their elders as old age has brought them
crystallized intelligence. In Greek and Greek American culture, old age is honored and celebrated,
and respect for elders is central to the family; and in Korea, respect for one s parents, filial piety

Shen Congwen The New And The Old Summary
Writer Shen Congwen is not as straightforward politically involved as Lu Xun is in his short
stories. Shen Congwen writes about revolution through a series of lenses that is quite different
from that of Lu Xun. Where Lu Xun takes a more rational stance on how things should progress
in China through revolution, Shen Congwen wants the reader to see the beauty in revolution and
life as a Chinese citizen. In his short story The New and the Old, the reader experiences a
dramatic scene about a soldier who is called upon to carry out an execution. As the story continues,
the reader discovers that this executioner is the best one in town, and that his executions are seen

The Death Of A Bullet
Bang! A gunshot went off at night in the town of Hartsville, Montana. Diana Dixon died at 60
years of age. The police found her body when the neighbors called them. It was that same night her
son David was found with blood on his coat. Diana was murdered and the town was in shock.
The police took David to the station questioning him about the night his mother was murdered.
David was the son of Diana Dixon, who adopted him as well as his sister Jennifer. He worked at a
gas station just down the road from his house, the place his mother was murdered.
At the crime scene, the shell of a bullet was found as well as footprints belonging to someone
with size 13 shoes. The same size David wore. The blood belonging to Diana, type AB+, was found
on David. David would keep telling the police he didn t kill his mother. In fact, David and his
mother got along well. They spent time together and went to church every Sunday. Everybody
thought David was guilty, except for one man who was about to uncover the facts.
The night Diana was murdered, October 19, a man by the name of James Mccullough was eating
at his favorite restaurant when he saw a car speeding by with two men. It looked like someone
was just driving until James saw masks on the men. He also saw the car stop. One of the men
stepped out and threw a bag in a dumpster. James later investigated the dumpster and found a gun!
After reporting this to the police, they ran the gun for fingerprints. One set was found. They

Navajo Nation s General Transportation Plan
An Evaluation of the Navajo Nation s General Transportation Plan
If everything in life is very simple and predictable, then we do not need any planning, (Kim).
However, this is not the case today because most developing cities and communities need planning
in order to guide their goals and visions for future land use. A document called a general plan(also
known as a comprehensive plan), helps guide developing cities and communities with a detailed
framework for its land use. The Navajo Nation, one of the largest Indian reservations in the United
States, is an example of a community that utilizes a general plan. In December 2009, the Navajo
Nation submitted the Navajo Nation Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) to the Transportation

NTS operates on seven fixed routes connecting small urban areas and also connects with other
transit systems like Greyhound Busline. The use of NTS has increased from 66,000 to 80,000
riders over a two year period (LRTP II F2). Due to poor road conditions the safety for NTS has
become an issue. The general plans provided background information on the Navajo Nation Indian
Reservation Road (IRR) system and this helps to understand how the nation s road network
operates. Since the nation overlaps different boundaries the IRR system administers the various
highway programs, these include tribal, state, county, Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), and other
agency roads. Almost half of the nation s highways are BIA roads and majority is unpaved. The
interesting part of this section is how these roads are different agency roads but the nation manages
to overlook all these roads through the IRR system.
In conclusion, the transportation system on the Navajo Nation needs vast improvements to benefit
its people. For a general plan, the transportation plan is one of the most important elements for cities
and communities. When planning, it is very important to learn and know the area, city or
community. A city or community will be forever changing and developing. For this reason, a city
or community will need a plan to develop, maintain, and improve its use of

strategy deals with the way a corporation manages a number of different businesses. Lynch, R, in

Post-colonialism in The Hunger Games
The success of the books, The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins, is remarkable
considering that the storyline is of a game in which children kill each other. The books have
reached iconic status in America and is an anomaly in the Young Adult Literature genre in that it
has a female protagonist yet is popular with male and female readers of all ages. Collins wrote
the series in response to her fears of the blurred lines between Reality Shows and televised news
events (Blasingame 726). The dystopian world portrayed in the book is rife with Post colonial
themes. There are many opinions about the proper definition of Post colonialismeven going so far
as to argue about whether the prefix post should be added to the word Colonialism. For the sake
of clarity, I will use the term Post colonialism as it is broadly defined in Post colonial Studies:
The Key Concepts, the effects of colonization on cultures and societies (Ashcroft, Griffiths and
Tiffin 186). Many critics such as Bhaba, Spivak and Said define this critical theory as
predominately characterized by race; however there are other critics, such as Jessica Langer, who
believe that the injustices perpetrated by colonialism, in all its forms (152) should be considered in
Post colonial studies. I will argue that the Post colonial concepts of Hybridity, Othering and
Imperialism go beyond racial barriers and reverberate throughout the The Hunger Games.

that ketosis can help you burn off fats for energy. Lots of people, even those people who are
following low carb diet programs, do not really comprehend ketosis or exactly why it does the
job. The majority of diets are generally calorie reduction diet programs. They help you shed
weight. However, a part of the weight loss will be coming from body fat and then a part of it
will be coming from lean body mass. Although you might have lost weight on the scale, your
metabolic function is slowing. The more muscle tissue you eliminate the more sluggish the
metabolic process is going to be. This will make losing weight harder and also gaining pounds
again even easier. The Atkins diet plan, however, is carb restricted. It causes ketosis within your
body that will burn just body fat rather than muscle tissue. A major source of your energy is
going to be body fat as ketones. The liver will turn body fat into ketones but it can never be
changed back again. It is going to be passed out of your body by natural means.

We see these features of emerging markets as symptoms of underlying market structures that share
common, important, and persistent differences from those in developed economies.
A fundamental premise of our work is that emerging markets reflect those transactional arenas
where buyers and sellers are not easily or efficiently able to come together. Ideally, every economy
would provide a range of institutions to facilitate the functioning of markets, but developing
countries fall short in a number of ways. These institutional voidsmake a market emerging and are a
prime source of the higher transaction costs and operating challenges in these markets.
By relying on outcome criteria to assess markets, managers often overlook the ways in which
emerging markets operate differently than do developed economies. Ranking the world s
economies by per capita gross domestic product would suggest that the United Arab Emirates, for
example, is among the world s most developed economies, but it is an emerging market nonetheless

Nature of competition
The airline industry is in a state of oligopoly, bordering onto the state of imperfect competition. The
various aspects that have a bearing on the nature of competition will be covered subsequently.
Imperfect information. There is imperfect information about the airline market. This can be gauged
by the fact that airlines are never sure as to what is the exact demand for seats on any route over
the period of the year. While airlines make fairly accurate guesses about the number of passengers

This is because there is considerable scope to outsource common services such as catering, ground

current trends of leasing aircraft and also by the fact that aircraft purchases span several years,

Corporate and Personal Income Tax Fraud
Corporate and personal income tax fraud is not a new phenomenon; it is a part of day to day
business in the global economy. Where there is worship of money there seems to be fraud in one
form or another. China is no different than any other country on this planet; it has honest
corporations and dishonest ones also. China is listed as number 8 on the top 10 countries for tax
fraud (Berr, 2011). United States is still listed as number one and Canada not even in the top 20.
Hong Kong is listed as four as The ten Biggest Tax Havens within the World (Said, 2013).

international co operation to combat tax fraud and evasion will be stepped up according to the
South China Morning Post (Shih, 2014). China would fulfil its responsibilities as a big nation in

Paris this week. (Shih, 2014). Fatca, which will take effect on July 1, requires foreign financial

Venomous Snakes In Australia
Snakes instill fear in humans more than an animal alive. We are superior to the snakes, however;
with just one bite from a venomous snake, we might just say our goodbyes. Are there venomous
snakes in the sea? The answer is yes. The deadliest one is the Beaded sea snake. Three venom
drops from this snake kill eight people. Fortunately, their fangs cannot penetrate a diver suit easily.
If only they are threatened, that s when they strike. Australia is the country that possesses a wide
variety of venomous snakes. Cases of snakebites only come from the Eastern Brown Snake yet it
has 50 different kinds of snakes.

It is known not to be vicious and aggressive, but when it bites it usually produces neurotoxic
symptoms that lead to a respiratory collapse. Nevertheless, it does not affect the circulatory system.
Before anti venom treatment was discovered, people in Australia mostly died from this snake bite.
The saw scaled viper (Echis carina tuis): This viper is found in the Far East and the Middle East. It
commonly causes deaths among field workers. Its main hazardous feature this creature brings into a
human being s body is that, its venom is slow acting and the casualty may delay in treating the bite
thus leading to death. This viper s venom is hemotoxic causing massive bleeding internally and
collapse of the circulatory system. Studies have shown that without the immediate availability of
anti venom, death is inevitable.
Philippine Cobra: While most cobras inspire fear, most of them do not make this list. The
Philippine Cobra does not have to bite you to kill you. If you are only within the range of three
meters, it spits and its venom reaches you. If not treated it causes paralysis and death within thirty

Employee Morale Project
1.1 INTRODUCTION In every organization, people are working within a suitable environment of
attitudes. Each employee has attitudes that range over the entire spectrum of human behavior. All
managers have a constant concern for the morale of the group, which they lead. However,
considerable confusion prevails over the use of the term moralebecause of variation in defining
characteristics of the term.
In certain cases job satisfaction and morale is considered as individual concern; in other cases job
satisfaction is considered as individual phenomenon and morale as group phenomenon. From one

Introduction
Domestic violence in the United States is a serious and grave social concern. Alarmingly, the rate
at which this very intimate violence occurs is increasing. The recent events concerning the
criminal trial of former football star O.J. Simpson have shed light upon domestic violence as a
national and social ill. The fate Nicole Brown Simpson endured is identical to that of thousands of
women who are caught within the vicious cycle of abuse and pay the ultimate price of death as a
result.
Domestic violence essentially affects everyone. It is not merely a personal or private problem
within families. With this idea in mind, just how horrifying are the facts about domestic violence?
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics (US Department of Justice), a woman is beaten every
15 seconds somewhere in the United States. The FBI reports that domestic violence is the leading
cause of injury to women between 15 and 44 in the United States more than car accidents,
muggings, and rapes combined. Furthermore, the US Surgeon General recounts that battered
women are more likely to suffer miscarriages and to give birth to babies with low birth weights.

Diffusion Of Altruism Essay
This paper looks at the theories relevant to the diffusion of prosocial behavior as it spreads through
social media. Altruism is delineated from other types of prosocial behavior because it is directly
related to empathy. The two theories of motivation for prosocial behavior are the Empathy Altruism
Hypothesis and Social Exchange Theory. These two motivational states outline the paradox of
altruism, which infers that selfless behavior can provide benefits to those engaging in it. When
looking at the chasm in the Diffusion of Innovation, presented by Everett Rogers, these theories can
be applied in order to accelerate the diffusion across the chasm. Messages that elicit empathic
responses should target the innovators and early adopters. This... Show more content on

The first opinion lies in the Empathy Altruism Hypothesis. This hypothesis, created by Daniel
Batson, studies altruistic behaviors and links their production to empathic concern for others
(Batson, 2011). Batson (2011) would argue that prosocial behavior can be elicited from empathic
concern, whereas others have argued there are only self serving processes at work. The alternate
opinion comes from Social Exchange Theory, which applies economic principles to social
relationships (Miller, 2013). As Shari Miller describes in her article from the Salem Press
Encyclopedia, social exchanges happen because people make choices that create maximum benefits
and minimize personal disadvantages (Miller, 2013). When this theory is applied to prosocial
behavior as its primary motivation, the actions can quickly be reduced to social behavior instead.
The reductionist approach of Social Exchange spins the motivations for any social behavior as
purely self serving. While this may be true of some surface level prosocial behavior, there is still
the observation that it can be selflessly motivated. Empathy generated altruism falls directly
opposite of reward seeking prosocial behaviors. These two concepts create a polarization in
motivational states. The altruism paradox, is defined in the Salem Press Encyclopedia of Health
as the difference between prosocial behavior that is self serving and prosocial behavior that is

Apologization Of Apology
An apology is an admission that you have done something wrong and regret doing so. It can be
difficult to admit that you have made a mistake. You have to let go of any defensiveness and ego
and refrain from backtracking. No one likes the complicated, defeated feelings that come from
being wrong. Apologizing requires humility and the willingness to place the needs of those you
have wrong above your own. It is imperative that you specify whether you are really sorry for
your actions or if you are only sorry that you were caught. With that said, I once had to apologize
for making fun of a friend s weight without realizing the effect that it would have on her. Before
apologizing, I first had to specifically recount what I was sorry for and acknowledge

Why spend money that is really needed for other things? Why live uncomfortably? Why be
trapped in this hole called a home that belongs to another person? Why not live free and
peacefully? When a person rents he or she usually throws away money that could be used to
purchase something that belongs to them. Money is not easy to come by so why pay out hundreds
toward something that is not benefit to the person paying it out. There is no good explanation for
making a decision like this. The best option in a situation like this is to buy a house. Buying a

Buying a house provides stability forever unless the owner decides to sell or to move into
another home in which the owner gains equity for selling. This is still a huge benefit. Owning a
home is a very huge security measure. When a person is an actual homeowner and not a renter
he or she can control who actually enters his or her home (Map, 2011). It is easier to purchase
home alarm systems and everything that goes on in a person s home is controlled by the owner.
As a homeowner the option of what is allowed and what goes on is controlled by the actual
homeowner. If an issue comes up and the owner has to move somewhere else then this is a huge
benefit. As a seller a person can earn so much money and it can build equity (Media, 2010).
Usually homes sell for way more than the purchase prices, especially if the owner has
customized the home, in which was discussed earlier (RP Reality, 2011). The selling price could
be a huge benefit to any owner who is selling their home and moving. These benefits cannot be
earned by an apartment renter. Buying a home is the best route to choose in any situation. Buying
a home means actually owning something. There is no more following another person s rules, no
more paying out unnecessary money. It means a sense of security and stability for a person s
family. It is the key to a better lifestyle. The benefits are all there. There is

taking a Look at Infant Mortality
Infant mortality is the death of a child that is less than one year of age. Infant mortality rates are
measured by the number of deaths in infants per number of live births. Infants are usually up to that
age of one year. The health outcomes of a pregnancy is mainly influenced by a woman s health.
Other risk factors include race, ethnicity, age, and income. Socioeconomic status and geographic
location are major influences for infantmortality of a child. Most babies that die before their first
year can be because they are born with a serious defect, is a preterm birth (Born too small or too
early/37 weeks), infections, affected by maternal complications of pregnancy, victims of injuries
and victims of sudden infant death syndrome also known as SIDS. National Vital Statistics Reports
studied the infant mortality rates for the top five leading causes of infant death from 2005 to 2009.
The top five leading causes were congenital malformations, preterm birth or low birth weight, SIDS,
maternal complications, and unintentional injuries. Congenital malformations had the biggest
decrease from 2005 to 2009 while the other four causes decreased only a little bit or not at all.
National Vital Statistics Reports also studied infant mortality rates, by the race and ethnicity of the

Essay on Fascism
What is Fascism?
Fascism is a 20th century form of nationalistic, militaristic, totalitarian dictatorship that seeks to
create a feasible society through strict regimentation of national and individual lives. Total
subordination to the service of the state and unquestioning loyalty to its leader would adjust
conflicting interests. It is a modern political ideology that looks to regenerate the social, economic,
and cultural life of a country by basing it on a heightened sense of national belonging of ethnic
identity. Fascism rejects liberal ideas of freedom and individual rights, it often presses for the
destruction of elections, legislatures and other elements of democracy. Despite fascism s idealistic

Fascist movements set out to create a new type of total culture in which values; politics, art,
social norms and economic activity are all part of a single organic community. In this way
fascism is directly opposed to consevatism. The fascist movements in Italy and Germany also
represented attempts to create revolutionary new modern states. Even though fascist movements
try to bring about revolutionary change, they emphasis the revival of a mythical ethnic, racial or
national past. They revise conventional history to create a vision of an idealised past. The
mythical histories claim that former greatness has been destroyed by such developments as the
mixing of races, the rise of powerful buisness groups and a loss of a shared sense of the nation. A
fascist movement always asserts that the nation faces a profound crisis. The fascists present the
national crisis as resolvable only through a radical political transformation. They claim the nation
has entered a dangerous age of mediocrity, weakness and decline. They are convinced that through
their timely action they can save the nation from itself. Fascists promise that with their help the
national crisis will end and a new age will begin that restores the people to a sense of belonging,
purpose and greatness. They believe that the end result of a fascist revolution will be the
emergence of a new man and woman. This

Analysis Of George Berkeley s Philosophy
George Berkeley is considered one the greatest modern philosophers, yet when he is studied he is
seen as misguided and inaccurate. It seems that sometimes we study his errors more than his
achievements. Many critiques of Berkeley are results of misunderstanding Berkeley s philosophy.
One very famous critique is from Samuel Johnson who lived around the same time as Berkeley.
Johnson kicked a stone and said, I refute it thus . Why did Johnson believe he could refute
Berkeley by kicking a stone? Did he misunderstand Berkeley, and if not what did he mean by this?
To discover what Johnson meant we must first learn about what he was refuting. Berkeley has
three main beliefs: 1. Idealism: the only things that exist are minds and their ideas; 2.
Phenomenalism: Physicals objects are big collections of possible senses; and 3. Immaterialism:
there is no such thing as a physical substance (something that exists independently). With Berkeley
s beliefs he has two motivations: 1. to oppose skepticism and 2. to promote religion, Berkeley was
a bishop of the Anglican church so you can see why promoting religion was so important to him.
Berkeley was an empiricist. Empiricism is the theory that all knowledge is derived from sense
experiences. Some other famous empiricists are Thomas Locke and David Hume. Berkeley is
thought to be the bridge between Locke and Hume. Locke believed that primary qualities such as
length, shape, and motion existed in the world. While secondary qualities such

The miners location and fate were unknown for 17 days, until a drill probing for air pockets poked

The miners had listened to the drills approaching for days and had prepared pre written notes to

The Early Disagreements Within Christianity
I believe this is one of the reasons Christianity thrived because people needed some shrivel of
hope. 7.Outline some of the early disagreements within Christianity. See (Christianity for the
First 3,000 Years) for details. Consider the nature of Jesus, the Gnostic gospels, the Council of
Nicaea etc. The resurrection of Jesus himself is a concept that is hard to believe. How can a man
come back to life, and why is this the first time this has happened? Jesus was not written about
till after his death. The gospels were told by Jesus apostles and their recollection of Jesus and his
teachings. The Council of Nicaea were Christian theologians who decided which stories about
Jesus to include in the Bible. The Council of Nicaea left out the Gnostic gospels hidden
knowledge which talked about Jesus s early childhood. Why should we believe the council when
they left out the parts of Jesus life they did not agree with. Even those whose hearts were inclined
to accept the new faith required some intellectual satisfaction before they were willing to commit:
How can God be three separate beings God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit and one indivisible being
at the same time? If Jesus is coeternal with God, why is there no mention of him in the two
thousand year tradition of Hebrew writings? If Jesus is the divine Son of God, how could he
experience such human emotions as temptation, fear, and loneliness? 1 (pg. 229) 8.Discuss the

Isolation In Death Of A Salesman Essay
In today s society, there is an abundance of ways to isolate one s self. Many do not realize the
complications that come with prolonged isolation. Arthur Miller, an American playwright of
multiple plays, specifically Death of a Salesman, has won multiple awards, such as; Pulitzer Prize
for Drama, and a Tony Award for Best Play. Miller, is able to distinctly represent complications,
that are coupled with isolation, for Linda and Willy Loman, coping mechanisms for isolation are
vastly different from one another, and still they both succeed in contributing to Willy s own
isolation.
For some isolation is due to themselves, others are faced with isolation from another. Linda

many good things, it also seems to create a few problems. Many individuals are of the opinion that
the media has little to no effect on murderous acts of violence, and others tend to lean in a very
different direction thinking that it is mere corruption. Media involving violence is believed by
several to initiate vicious acts, leading normal situations to change into dangerous ones.

In 1956, kids in a study who watched a violent episode of Woody Woodpecker were more likely to
hit other children and break toys than kids who watched a nonviolent cartoon (Hermes 2). All of
these things made parents wonder what was happening to their children.
Television was going strong by the 1960 s, and world events were aired for families to see. On
November 22, 1963, a CBS radio news bulletin interrupted As The World Turns to report that
John F. Kennedy had been seriously wounded by shots fired at his motorcade (Sneed 5). The
incident was reported in newspapers all across the world. The Vietnam War was escalating and the
Civil Rights Movement was in progress. All of these events were greatly affected the music. Most
households had a telephone on a party line with another family. Many loved to pick up the phone
and listen to personal conversations resulting in gossip. Every individual was affected by media at
this point in time.
In the decade of the 1970 s television was beginning to be more open about sex. Daytime TV was
all about the soap opera. These television shows were erotic and involved romance and sex. Not
only was television changing but the game industry was starting to evolve. The game console had
been on the market for several years. In 1976, this form of entertainment brought the beginning of
game violence to the public. Death Race, an 8 bit arcade game in which a vaguely car shaped blob
ran over stick figures, turning them

1Cloud Computing in Daily Operations Cloud computing refers to the delivery of computing
services over the internet. The computing services include: infrastructure, development platforms
and software applications. Cloud services are privately owned for the purpose of remotely
provisioning scalable and measured IT resources from data centers located around the world.
Cloud computing can assist organisations improve the creation and delivery of IT solutions by
allowing them to access services more flexibly and cost effectively. In public cloud computing,
services are delivered by a third party to its external customers. In private cloud computing, IT

Scalability: Growing organisations need solutions that are able to grow with them. Mobility: As
the adoption of smart phones and smart devices increase, so does user demands and the need to
have highly available platforms and resources that are easily accessible. Other key drivers behind
the adoption of cloud computing are operational costs and improved performance to existing
systems. Key points to consider: What are your business drivers for moving daily operations to the
cloud? 1.2Office Automation Organisations are progressively considering the change of on premise
base collaboration and communication tools to a cloud office system such as Microsoft Office 365
or Google Apps for Work. Exchange, Lync and SharePoint are heavily reliant on Active Directory.
The manner in which the SoftArc s domain name is affected depends on whether you choose to
maintain an on premise Active Directory and whether identity federation is used. There are a
number of compliance and security issues associated with SharePoint in the cloud, organisations
must ensure that SharePoint is being used in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, industry
standards and company policies. Key points to consider: Identity federation vs partial re delegation

Does Catherine Sedgwick s Use Of The Rhetorical Appeals In...
Dogs Rhetorical Exercise In Catharine Sedgwick s, Dogs, she uses the rhetorical appeal, logos, to
help make it clear to the reader that animal cruelty is wrong, and to argue that goodness trumps
genius. Sedgwick makes her argument clear, and logical, by telling the short anecdotes of the
different dogs, throughout the short story as a whole. Each different story, whether it be the story
of Apollo, the story of Misnias, the story of the bulldogs, the story of the bloodhounds, the story of
foot, or even the story of the bunnies, all help to logically build Sedgwick s argument, that animal
cruelty is wrong, and that the goodness trumps genius, Yes, William, such sports would certainly,

Sedgwick appeals to emotions by pulling on the heart strings of her audience, Poor Clary is
sometimes seized with her fits by the road side. During the paroxysms, and the long sleep, which
sometimes succeeds them, Foot never quits her side. I saw him on one of these occasions, his
paws placed on her arm, looking intently in his poor mistress face, and yelping most piteously
(Sedgwick, P.40 41). Sedgwick creates a powerful image of poor Clary having a seizure, with her
dog never leaving her side. This powerful image, pulls on the heart strings of the reader, and shows

Mr Keating Conformity
1. Define and explain conformity as you see it play out in the film. Give a few examples.
Conformity was present multiple times throughout the film. Not only did I observe it, but it was
also defined by Mr. Keating during class time. Conformity is when one or a few people are
influenced by a majority of other individuals to follow suit, hence not being themselves or
expressing any creativity. Conformity is negative because it causing an individual to not express
their opinions/beliefs and it is a non individualized way of living. The obvious example from the
filmwas when Mr. Keating explained conformity and how all the boys were walking at different
paces and then it eventually became synchronized. Also, some of the boys began clapping along
which then in turn resulted in all of the other boys clapping too. Another example is at the end...

Mr. Keating stresses the importance of carpe diem within the very first class. He has a unique
way of addressing this topic through showing them the pictures of the older individuals in the
showcases in the hallway and how they once were in the same position of feeling invincible. The
importance of this saying is that it is a constant reminder to make the most of our lifetime
because someday we are all going to die. We cannot keep waiting to do great things in the future,
but instead we need to be determined and take advantage of the now instead of the future. As Mr.
Keating said, we need to make our lives extraordinary. This cannot happen if we do not live each
day to it s fullest. Carpe diem made an impact on all of the boys which was noticeable throughout
the movie. Two examples are, Neil trying out for the play and Knox calling the girl he likes.
Whenever the boys needed motivation or wanted to do something scary, they shouted carpe diem
which truly helped them seize their

  • 2. My Observation Of Large Group Speech At The Iowa State... While sitting between two of the best speech coaches in Northwest Iowa, I felt my heart race as they began announcing the Critic s Choice Award for the ten different areas of large group speech. The atmosphere was that of the Academy Awards in CY Stephens Auditorium at Iowa State University for the 31st IHSSA All State Large Group Speech Festival on Saturday, February 18. Students sat on the main level of the packed auditorium while family and friends filled the balcony. As I glanced over at Joel Stauffer and Todd McDonald, I realized there was no other place I would rather be. Our choral reading, Wild at Heart earned a chance to perform at the festival. The only times our school has won a banner was in 1991 for the ensemble, Night Mother under the direction of Mr. McDonald and in 1981 for duet acting. Earning a banner is a hard thing to do. There are no classes in speech competition; all 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A schools are grouped together. According to the Iowa... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I thought about the 104 students who participated in sixteen groups this year and all of the students who have touched my heart in previous years. I also thought of my time serving as an assistant coach to an amazing head coach, Joel Stauffer. • 3. Gender Inequality In Sociology And Gender Roles In Sociology, gender roles are a big part of everyday discussion. With that comes the controversy with gender inequality. The differences of what it really means to be an equal gender nation has been around for years, but it has been becoming more and more popular with politics and media recently. Females are portrayed as inferior to males when they should be treated as equals in today s society. We have come a long way since the Women s Rights Movement in the 1800s, but there is still work to be done. To better understand genderinequality, it is important to understand the root where it came from, specific manifestations dealt with gender inequality, and solutions on how to make gender inequality a term of the past. Gender inequality is the social process by which people are treated differently and disadvantageously, under similar circumstances, on the basis of gender (Gender inequality, 2017). This means that one gender is not being treated equally compared to another gender and in most cases it is women. The roots of gender inequality are not from any recent time. In China, they actually are dated back 2,500 years to the Bronze Age according to a recent study from Queens College in New York City. Studies were done by scientists who examined Neolithic Age graves from the Chinese Central Plains about 5,000 years ago. They reported their findings when they examined their bones for signs of stress. Their examinations concluded that there was a significant change in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Axonal Nerve Injuries Introduction Nerve injury is not fatal but can severely impact quality of life. Peripheral nerve injuries occur in an estimated 2 3% of all patients admitted to a Level 1 trauma center (1) and are commonly caused by trauma to the upper limbs. The economic impact of nerve injuries can be large with operative costs, hospital charges, rehabilitation visits, and lost time at work. Only subtle improvements to peripheral nerve repair have been made recently, and our current knowledge of nerve physiology and regeneration vastly exceeds our current repair capabilities. Poor outcomes of peripheral nerve injury are largely due to the slow process of axonal outgrowth. After nerve injury, severed proximal axons with intact cell bodies can grow up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The proposed mechanism is PEG induced lipid bilayer fusion by removing the hydration barrier surrounding the axolemma and reducing the activation energy required for membrane fusion to occur. In an axonal injury without PEG, axonal endings seal after an influx of calcium, preventing axonal fusion (6). Figure 1 demonstrates the bioengineered process of PEG fusion. When severed axonal endings are exposed to calcium free hypotonic saline and an antioxidant (i.e. Methylene Blue or Melatonin), vesicle mediated sealing is decreased, keeping membrane leaflets open. PEG is then applied to artificially induce closely apposed membranes of severed axonal ends to flow into each other and fuse. This produces a partial repair of the plasmalemmal membranes that are then perfused with calcium containing saline, which causes vesicles to accumulate and seal remaining holes at the injury site. This process is known as PEG fusion. The success of our PEG fusion technique is based on multiple factors including PEG, calcium, nerve stump approximation, and an antioxidant Methylene Blue (MB) (Figure 1). PEG, a hydrophilic compound, enhances axonal fusion in either severed or crushed settings and restores the ability to generate compound action potentials across the site of injury. PEG potentially facilitates lipid bilayer fusion by removing water molecules from the lipid bilayer at or near the damage site (Figure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Argumentative Essay On Community Colleges Community colleges are meant to be largely funded by tuition localities and states. However, as reported by the Washington Post, this is not the case in Florida (Danielle 2016). In 2008, the counties offered no support to the community colleges because of the financial crisis. This has changed over the past few years, though very little funding is still given to the community colleges by the counties. Since community colleges are meant to offer opportunities to people who cannot continue with higher education, the needs of these students may be higher than the funding that the county offers for tuition. As a result, the community colleges are divided into bronze, silver and gold schools. The largest share is allocated to the gold schools whereas the silver and bronze receive smaller shares or none at all for the bronze schools. Most students in Florida are encouraged to pass through community colleges before proceeding to universities to polish their grades (Danielle 2016). Florida s universities on the other hand get funded by both federal and state government. There are other ways in which these community colleges and universities in Florida and other higher learning institutions in the US get funded. These include: personal or family loans and savings, provision of scholarships by the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike these grandiose projects, Wordsworth and Ladislaw stand for an exploration of the world through human understanding. In explaining the nature of his work, Ladislaw tells Dorothea that being a poet is having the kind of soul in which knowledge passes instantaneously into feeling, and feeling flashes back as a new organ of knowledge (142). In stating this, Eliot is in direct conversation with Wordsworth s claim regarding the objective of the Romantic poet. The Romantics believed that the physical nature of objects was intrinsically attached to the effect they had on the perceiver and the true pursuit of knowledge didn t discount either of these two aspects. Navajo Nation s General Transportation Plan An Evaluation of the Navajo Nation s General Transportation Plan If everything in life is very simple and predictable, then we do not need any planning, (Kim). Lots of people, even those people who are following low carb diet programs, do not really comprehend ketosis or exactly why it does the job. The majority of diets are generally calorie reduction diet programs. They help you shed weight. However, a part of the weight loss will be coming from body fat and then a part of it will be coming from lean body mass. Although you might have lost weight on the scale, your metabolic function is slowing. The more muscle tissue you eliminate the more sluggish the metabolic process is going to be. This will make losing weight harder and also gaining pounds again even easier. The Atkins diet plan, however, is carb restricted. It causes ketosis within your body that will burn just body fat rather than muscle tissue. A major source of your energy is going to be body fat as ketones. The liver will turn body fat into ketones but it can never be changed back again. It is going to be passed out of your body by natural means. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The fate Nicole Brown Simpson endured is identical to that of thousands of women who are caught within the vicious cycle of abuse and pay the ultimate price of death as a result. Domestic violence essentially affects everyone. It is not merely a personal or private problem within families. With this idea in mind, just how horrifying are the facts about domestic violence? According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics (US Department of Justice), a woman is beaten every 15 seconds somewhere in the United States. The FBI reports that domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between 15 and 44 in the United States more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined. Furthermore, the US Surgeon General recounts that battered women are more likely to suffer miscarriages and to give birth to babies with low birth weights. • 27. Diffusion Of Altruism Essay This paper looks at the theories relevant to the diffusion of prosocial behavior as it spreads through social media. Altruism is delineated from other types of prosocial behavior because it is directly related to empathy. The two theories of motivation for prosocial behavior are the Empathy Altruism Hypothesis and Social Exchange Theory. These two motivational states outline the paradox of altruism, which infers that selfless behavior can provide benefits to those engaging in it. When looking at the chasm in the Diffusion of Innovation, presented by Everett Rogers, these theories can be applied in order to accelerate the diffusion across the chasm. Messages that elicit empathic responses should target the innovators and early adopters. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first opinion lies in the Empathy Altruism Hypothesis. This hypothesis, created by Daniel Batson, studies altruistic behaviors and links their production to empathic concern for others (Batson, 2011). Batson (2011) would argue that prosocial behavior can be elicited from empathic concern, whereas others have argued there are only self serving processes at work. The alternate opinion comes from Social Exchange Theory, which applies economic principles to social relationships (Miller, 2013). As Shari Miller describes in her article from the Salem Press Encyclopedia, social exchanges happen because people make choices that create maximum benefits and minimize personal disadvantages (Miller, 2013). When this theory is applied to prosocial behavior as its primary motivation, the actions can quickly be reduced to social behavior instead. The reductionist approach of Social Exchange spins the motivations for any social behavior as purely self serving. While this may be true of some surface level prosocial behavior, there is still the observation that it can be selflessly motivated. Empathy generated altruism falls directly opposite of reward seeking prosocial behaviors. These two concepts create a polarization in motivational states. The altruism paradox, is defined in the Salem Press Encyclopedia of Health as the difference between prosocial behavior that is self serving and prosocial behavior that is ... • 28. Apologization Of Apology An apology is an admission that you have done something wrong and regret doing so. It can be difficult to admit that you have made a mistake. You have to let go of any defensiveness and ego and refrain from backtracking. No one likes the complicated, defeated feelings that come from being wrong. Apologizing requires humility and the willingness to place the needs of those you have wrong above your own. It is imperative that you specify whether you are really sorry for your actions or if you are only sorry that you were caught. With that said, I once had to apologize for making fun of a friend s weight without realizing the effect that it would have on her. Buying a house provides stability forever unless the owner decides to sell or to move into another home in which the owner gains equity for selling. This is still a huge benefit. Owning a home is a very huge security measure. When a person is an actual homeowner and not a renter he or she can control who actually enters his or her home (Map, 2011). It is easier to purchase home alarm systems and everything that goes on in a person s home is controlled by the owner. As a homeowner the option of what is allowed and what goes on is controlled by the actual homeowner. If an issue comes up and the owner has to move somewhere else then this is a huge benefit. As a seller a person can earn so much money and it can build equity (Media, 2010). Usually homes sell for way more than the purchase prices, especially if the owner has customized the home, in which was discussed earlier (RP Reality, 2011). The selling price could be a huge benefit to any owner who is selling their home and moving. These benefits cannot be earned by an apartment renter. Buying a home is the best route to choose in any situation. Buying a home means actually owning something. There is no more following another person s rules, no more paying out unnecessary money. Fascism is a 20th century form of nationalistic, militaristic, totalitarian dictatorship that seeks to create a feasible society through strict regimentation of national and individual lives. It is a modern political ideology that looks to regenerate the social, economic, and cultural life of a country by basing it on a heightened sense of national belonging of ethnic identity. • 32. Analysis Of George Berkeley s Philosophy George Berkeley is considered one the greatest modern philosophers, yet when he is studied he is seen as misguided and inaccurate. It seems that sometimes we study his errors more than his achievements. Many critiques of Berkeley are results of misunderstanding Berkeley s philosophy. One very famous critique is from Samuel Johnson who lived around the same time as Berkeley. Johnson kicked a stone and said, I refute it thus . Why did Johnson believe he could refute Berkeley by kicking a stone? Did he misunderstand Berkeley, and if not what did he mean by this? To discover what Johnson meant we must first learn about what he was refuting. Berkeley has three main beliefs: 1. Idealism: the only things that exist are minds and their ideas; 2. Phenomenalism: Physicals objects are big collections of possible senses; and 3. Immaterialism: there is no such thing as a physical substance (something that exists independently). With Berkeley s beliefs he has two motivations: 1. to oppose skepticism and 2. to promote religion, Berkeley was a bishop of the Anglican church so you can see why promoting religion was so important to him. Berkeley was an empiricist. Empiricism is the theory that all knowledge is derived from sense experiences. Some other famous empiricists are Thomas Locke and David Hume. Berkeley is thought to be the bridge between Locke and Hume. Locke believed that primary qualities such as length, shape, and motion existed in the world. While secondary qualities such ... The Early Disagreements Within Christianity I believe this is one of the reasons Christianity thrived because people needed some shrivel of hope. 7.Outline some of the early disagreements within Christianity. See (Christianity for the First 3,000 Years) for details. Consider the nature of Jesus, the Gnostic gospels, the Council of Nicaea etc. The resurrection of Jesus himself is a concept that is hard to believe. How can a man come back to life, and why is this the first time this has happened? Jesus was not written about till after his death. The gospels were told by Jesus apostles and their recollection of Jesus and his teachings. The Council of Nicaea were Christian theologians who decided which stories about Jesus to include in the Bible. The Council of Nicaea left out the Gnostic gospels hidden knowledge which talked about Jesus s early childhood. Why should we believe the council when they left out the parts of Jesus life they did not agree with. Even those whose hearts were inclined to accept the new faith required some intellectual satisfaction before they were willing to commit: How can God be three separate beings God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit and one indivisible being at the same time? If Jesus is coeternal with God, why is there no mention of him in the two thousand year tradition of Hebrew writings?
