Fear In Finding Nemo
Finding Nemo (2003) is a very touching animated film about a father s journey to find his son. Marlin,
the father, is known as overprotective and wary of all dangers of the sea. Nemo is his only son, and
after a near death experience, Marlin spends his days mostly confined to his sea anemone home
avoiding all possible dangers of the world. Nemo is a very curious and sheltered fish who wants to
experience the world. When this curiosity gets him kidnapped by a sea diver, Marlin s worst fear is
now his reality. Finding Nemo is a heartwarming tale with a strong theme of facing and conquering
your fears. The first scene in Finding Nemo, the audience sees Marlin and his wife admiring their soon
to be babies when suddenly the scene turns dark. The music in the film stops, along with all sounds of
ocean life. Dark shadows are created in the film to fill the audience with fear and dread. The fish are
then attacked by a larger hungry fish leaving Marlin s wife and all but one of their babies dead. The
fear and sadness is apparent when Marlin sheds a tear whilst holding the quivering egg that would
soon be his son. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The audience is easily able to identify moments during the film where danger is imminent by studying
the patterns. Before every dangerous scene, there is a pause a stop, of all activity going on around the
characters. The makers of the film tried to create a realistic oceanic scene while still adding a little
fantasy as well. Realism is a natural style of acting used to make the movie seem 100% possible and
real in the eyes of the audience, (Goodykoontz Jacobs, 2014). The use of underwater sound effects,
fish activity, and bright, scientifically accurate color schemes pulls the audience in and begs them to
stretch their imagination to accept this new reality. Before every scene, all activity ceases, all music
ends, and the colors become dull or even dark

Why Is Banquo Important In Macbeth
To be sensible is to be realistic, reasonable, and rational. Many characters throughout various writing
pieces are portrayed as sensible. Amongst all, one of them is the Thane of Lochaber. In Macbeth by
William Shakespeare, Banquo is much more sensible in contrast to Macbeth because he questions
unnatural events, seeks help from light, and reacts to murder smartly. To begin, when Banquo and
Macbeth encounter the witches, Banquo asks the more realistic question when Macbeth wants to get
more deceitful information. Banquo says Good sir, why do you start and seem to fear/ Things that do
sound so fair? I the name of truth,/ Are ye fantastical, or that indeed/ Which actually ye show? (I.iii.54
56). Banquo is logical and asks the important question of whether the witches are illusions trying to
fool them or not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And to be king/ Stands not within the prospect of belief,/ No more than to be Cawdor. Say from
whence/ You owe this strange intelligence? Or why. Upon this blasted heath you stop our way/ With
such prophetic greeting? Speak, I charge you, (I.iii.76 81). The fact that Banquo asks of the witch s
realism, while Macbeth trusts their words, proves that Banquo is a sensible character. Furthermore,
Banquo seeks help from holy beings to hide his desires, unlike Macbeth, who calls out to darkness.
Banquo states, A heavy summons lies like lead upon me,/ And yet I would not sleep. Merciful
powers,/ Restrain in me the cursed thoughts that nature/ Gives way to in repose! (II.i.7 10). Banquo
chooses to pray to angels to keep away his nightmares. In contrast, Macbeth is unwise because he calls
out for darkness to hide light from seeing his motives. Stars hide your fires;/ let not light see my black
and deep desires, (!.iv.57 58). Banquo s plead to angels is a more sensible appeal then to Macbeth s
asking darkness to hide away light, an unwise

How Did Beethoven Change The World
A deaf person composed beautiful music. Ludwig Van Beethoven, a deaf german composer was born

Standing on the fire escape outside the apartment and getting a cigarette allows Tom to temporarily
find peace from Amanda s nagging inquisition and commands, as he said, I d rather smoke when
Amanda complains to him about smoking too much. Through Amanda s sighing, A fire escape landing

Tom could readily escape from the world of Amanda to a world of new dimensions. Other than

have an even stronger will of escape. Hence, going to movies or having drinks in the bar every night

depressed life. In Scene Four, Amanda asks, Why do

Byzantine Empire Dbq Essay
Through the chaos and anarchy from the destruction of Rome emerged a powerful empire. It all began
in 323CE when a young general named Constantine became the Emperor of Rome. He was quick to
make some changes, including moving the imperial capital from Rome to Byzantium, but he renamed
it Constantinople. The Byzantine Empire was separated from the Roman Empire s collapse so it
managed to survive and maintain order in the east. In 1054 the Byzantines split from the Roman
Catholic Church in the west and developed the Eastern Orthodox Church. They prospered for almost a
thousand years, but fell to the Turks in 1453. Byzantine history is often over looked, but there are
many reasons they should be taught about in classrooms including their advanced military technology,
the development and influence of Justinian s code, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

2012 Presidential Elections
The results of both the 2004 and 2012 Presidential elections were the same as both incumbents were
able to capitalize on the voters being comfortable with them. Additional, since both incumbents had
access to national assets, four years of on the job training, and insider information they were able to
speak in depth on a wide range of issues both foreign and domestic. In 2004, the largest and most
important issue to the nation was the war in Iraqi and in 2012 it was the nation s economy. Given the
incumbents access to firsthand information on the issues at large, they were able to weaken their
opponents in the nation s eyes by dismantling the candidate s strategies on the issues. History has

Campaign Strategies used by the incumbents in both the 2004 and 2012 presidential elections were
direct and aggressive, using media outlets to launch phased targeting to discredit candidates by
highlighting indecisiveness and lacking of understand on controversial issues. In both elections the
candidates that successful used the media were able to garnered support from nation as they were able
to stay steps ahead of their opponents, forcing them to constantly defend themselves and legalize their
campaigns. For example, President Obama used ads to undermine Mitt Romney s time running the
investment firm Bain Capital (strength of Romney s campaign) against him, stating that because of
Mitt Romney s time at Bain he would be unable to relate to average. This forced Romney to alter his
campaign strategy as more Americans began to question Romney stance on multiple issues, especially
taxes, during an election in which the primary issue was the nation s economy. Similar strategies were
utilized in the 2004 and 2012 elections, giving the incumbents a huge advantage from day one. When
you combine the election results and campaign strategy with the voter turnout with only a 2 5 percent
difference in voting age population turnout, it is clear why both elections resulted in the incumbent
being reelected. I believe that the nation applied the old saying, if it is not broke, then don t fix it

Erica Fryberg
Friendships is a poem by Erica Fryberg that can relate to almost anybody who has experienced real
and fake friendships, as it is about the speaker s perspective on friendships, and the difference between
having real and fake friends, forced friendships and real friendships. Through a comparison of
friendships and furniture, the poet uses a humorous tone to describe friendships, making the speaker
relatable. I particularly enjoyed this, as on a personal level I was able to relate to this, as a student at a
school where teachers attempted to force unnatural relationships multiple times. Overall, this poem
was an engaging poem, which, through language and poetic devices, clearly described the difference
between real and fake friendships.
As the title implies, the subject matter of this poem are friendships, and real and fake friends. The first
stanza describes how forced friendships are often fake, and are only an idealized image of real
friendships, made only for the purpose of pleasing the teacher. Through a comparison of furniture and
friendships, the poet depicts the fakeness of the forced friendships, and how they seem polished and
shine like glass, yet are also easily shattered. On a personal level, this particularly is ... Show more

imagery, as shown in the lines A coat hanger for others whims./Very pretty upholstery/Comfortable

How Much Influence Has A Little Country Have On The Great...
Just how much influence could a little country have on the great United States of America? One may
be surprised. With a size slightly less than twice the size of New Jersey, Switzerland has a lot to offer
for its size (The World Factbook). The country is located in central Europe, north of Italy and east of
France, and shares their temperate climate. This landlocked terrain mostly consists of mountains, with
a central plateau of rolling hills, plains, and large lakes (The World Factbook). Despite their relatively
small size and their centralized location, they have a large influence on the rest of the world.
Specifically to the United States, the Swiss have brought their culture, merchandise, and services to
share with the people of America. Switzerland has a relatively short history. In 1291 A.D., the Swiss
Confederation was founded as a defense alliance between three cantons of modern day Uri, Schwyz,
and Unterwalden (Schelbert). Wars of conquest and arranged alliances grew the confederation
(Schelbert). In 1499, the Confederation gained its independence from the Holy Roman Empire (The
World Factbook). In 1515, the now 13 canton confederation ended their expansion with their defeat in
northern Italy at the battle of Marignano (Schelbert). The Swiss Confederation then started conducting
the practice of armed neutrality (Schelbert). Despite this neutrality, the Protestant Reformation had the
people of the Confederation split into hostile camps and threatened the

Summary Of Brahms Symphony No. 4
Brahms wrote Symphony No. 4 in E Minor in 1884. The work was first performed in Meiningen,
Germany in October 1885 and was an instant success because of its masterful composition and unique
style. Brahms s music and his fourth symphony are often viewed as a bridge between the music of the
baroque and romantic era. Although Brahms is considered to be a romantic composer, his music is
unique from others because you can hear both the style of older era composers and features of
romantic style in the texture of his works. This combination of baroque and romantic style in his
music helps create more balance in the music, which gives it a blend that captured audiences and still
entrances them today. Brahms was also inspired by study of Beethoven s symphonies for their
orchestral color and harmonic structure; Brahms incorporates these features he enjoyed into his
writing. The fourth movement of Brahms symphony No. 4 is titled Allegro energico e passianato and
is known for its use of the Baroque style of Chaconne and other features that are found in the
Romantic style as well. Some of these include chromaticism, a melody that jumps between major and
minor keys but does not settle into a single mode, and extended techniques to creature a richness and a
wide pallet of sounds.
Brahms was a scholar and had a strong interest in Baroque music. His fourth movement makes use of
the Chaconne style. It is a series of repeated variations and chord progressions, a form of ostinato or

Charlie and Elie have both been challenged by the concept of identity. In Flowers for Algernon and

Brief Summary And Theoretical Molar Heat Of Combustion
Graph 1 Description:
This graph is identical to experiment 1 graph 1 as it compares the experimental and theoretical molar
heats of combustion. Being the same concept this graph shows how the experimental molar heat of
combustion is a scale less than the theoretical molar heat of combustion. The significance behind the
scale of this graph where the experimental is lower that the theoretical, is how there is a pattern for
which every fuel follows the same trend. Also it shows the average heats of combustion and which
alkane has the leading heat output rate.
Graph 2 Description:
This graph is identical to experiment 1 graph 2 as it shows a pattern between the scales of carbon
atoms. The higher amount of carbon in a longer chain results in a higher molar heat of combustion.
This supports the theory behind bond energy as more bonds break, more bonds form which add up to

As the change in mass and temperature is small for both candle wax (and paraffin in this experiment),
it is clear that there is little changes when these fuels are combusting in their physical states. This
means that these fuels last longer but are an unreliable source of energy as a fuel. The change in
temperature being small suggests that these alkanes produce poor heat output, however that fully
contradicts their high experimental and theoretical heats of combustion and percentage yields. The fact
that the change in temperature was so low can be experimental side effects. One being that candle wax
particularly produces the extra energy source of light possibly more so than paraffin and even the

Leadership Styles From The Point Of View
Comparative Analysis
The articles under analysis explore leadership styles from the point of view of their relation to gender
(Merchant, 2012) and personality (Yahaya et al., 2011). Merchant (2012) provides a valuable research,
which is focused on gender as the major determinant of leadership styles in individuals. Providing an
analysis of literature, Merchant (2012) indicates that many studies analyzing the intersection of gender
and influence tactics have resulted in mixed finding (p. 24). It proves the argument that gender
stereotypes play a major role in attributing particular roles for females and males on the basis of their
biological sex and what is expected of them. Whereas Merchant (2012) does not present a particular
argument ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I happened to work under both female and male leadership, and I should admit that the difference
between them is not evident everything depends on personality, and dissimilarities in influence tactics
are attributed to situational circumstances such as individual setting (Merchant, 2012, p. 26).
Personal Leadership Style
My leadership style is both Participative and Democratic, and it is influenced by the three variables
gender, personality, and age. Democratic Leader makes the final decision, only after receiving the
input and recommendations of all team members, (Goetsch, 2002). I focus on getting to the bottom of
the problem with working through it.
Effect of Gender
Though gender is a contradictory variable in affecting leadership styles, I should note that gender does
play an important role in the way I influence other people. In this aspect, I should agree with Merchant
(2012), who indicate, women value cooperation [...] and have a less clear focus on where the
boundaries of their friendships end and their individual identities begin (p. 18). As a female, I feel I
have to work harder than a male doing the same job. Even though, I feel that I have to work harder
than a man, I also think that it s not always about your gender, but how a person is a leader. Kanter,
argues that males and females who occupy the same organizational role theoretically differ very

Essay Comparing the Culture of Cambodia and American Culture
Comparing the Culture of Cambodia and American Culture
After reading the novel Children of the River, I have learned some customs that people in Cambodia
practice in their country. In this essay, I shall describe some examples of their traditions and contrast
them with the American culture as shown in the novel and Honduran culture of which I am most
familiar.
One good example of this contrast is when Sundara, the main character of the novel, explains to
Jonathan (Pg 23) that in Cambodia, students at school show respect to their teachers. Students don t
ask questions to their teachers if they don t understand a lesson. In their culture, asking such questions
is a sign of disrespect. Sundara explains in the novel that people ... Show more content on

Not using the husband s last name in this manner would be offensive to the husband and his family.
Still another example of Cambodian customs is when Soka tells Sundara (Pg. 80) about Naro s mother
feeling disappointed of lack of respect for the elderly in America. In Cambodia it is impolite and rude
not to show respect to adults. They bow and show consideration to them. In my opinion, this practice
is used in many countries too. In Honduras, if a person doesn t show respect for the elderly, he or she
would be considered rude to others.
In addition, in page 84, Sundara tells Jonathan that in Cambodia a girl doesn t go out with a boy alone.
Cambodian girls are not allowed to go out without company. It is not part of their customs; it is not
acceptable in her country. For Sundara it is difficult to explain to Jonathan that she must not be
disobedient even though they are not doing anything wrong. She needs to follow her traditions.
Another interesting Cambodian custom (Pg. 109) is when Sundara tells Jonathan that in Cambodia
people believe that is bad to touch a little kid s head. They believe that it might make them lose their
intelligence or their soul.
In my opinion, it is fascinating to learn different customs from diverse countries because that way we
can avoid make other people feel uncomfortable. It is important to know how a simple touch can
disturb an entire culture.

The Strategies of Globalization and Regionalization
Globalization and Regionalization: As a concept that has become common since the 1990s,
globalization is described as the technological, economic, cultural, ideological, and economic changes
across borders. It can also be regarded as the transformation of the global economy through the
anarchy of financial markets or a technological revolution with social impacts. In contrast,
regionalization is the growth of societal integration within a specific area that incorporates all the
undirected procedures of economic and social interactions among the units in the region. Since these
concepts are different in nature, they contain various strategies that are only effective in specific
situations.
Strategies of Globalization and Regionalization: The concept of globalization has become a prevalent
phenomenon in the past two decades because of the changes it has brought and the adoption of its
strategies by multinational corporations or companies. The economic changes of globalization include
the strengthening of economic inter dependence, internationalization of production, and enhanced
mobility of transnational corporations. On the other hand, trade liberalization, privatization, and
deregulation are the ideological changes emanating from this concept. Kacowicz (1998) states that the
technological changes include information and communication revolutions that have minimized the
world while the trends towards a universal world culture and synchronization of standards are

corrupted by the war, which leads to his own death by the end of the book. The war transforms Elijah
into a person that Xavier no longer recognizes. He becomes insane. His transformation was due to the
abuse of morphine, loss of his identity and his endless fame in the war. These are just some points that
contribute to Elijah s mentality. The transformation of Elijah to become insane is due to his use of
morphine to escape reality. Elijah uses morphine on raids with Xavier to help himself. He improves

In the beginning, Eliah wanted to fit into the army. His English was very well spoken but he decided
to adapt a British accent among the other soldiers. His second step was when he went against his
traditional Cree way. During the raid, Xavier and Elijah were sent as part of a raiding party to scout
out the large craters in No Man s land. They would lob grenades over the German trenches, killing the
people inside. When they returned from the raid, Corporal Thompson asked how the last days were
and Elijah responded with, It s in my blood, (75). Elijah was never taught to love the death of others.
He embraced the concepts of war and killing himself and in his process, it had changed him into a
person that only cares about his reputation as a deadly sniper. Therefore, Elijah has gone insane in the
war because of his lack of identity. Finally, the transformation of Elijah to become insane is due to his
endless fame in the war. Others in the unit started to treat Elijah differently (100). Xavier is always
with Elijah but he never gets the same attention that Elijah gets. He remains unknown even though he
was the one who taught Elijah how to hunt and he covers Elijah while he

My First Year Of My Life
For years, I convinced myself that the story of my life began when I arrived in America at eleven
months old. I tumbled through the clichéd white picket fence childhood, never realizing how
impossible it was to completely discard the first year of my infancy. While I had always known about
being adopted from China, I did not fully comprehend the weight of this detail until my late teenage
years. I grew up in a loving and somewhat sheltered environment. My parents made my adoption
seem like a grand fairytale, and they were my happy ending. To them, adoption made me more special
than the average kid, causing me to never think twice about my beginnings. I was the miracle child
who brought joy to everyone I met. As a child, people would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the midst of my clarifying Farm Fresh experience, I took a public speaking class at Regent
University. I had to give an informative speech on a current issue for my final assignment. To this day,
I still have no idea why, but I chose to talk about China s One Child Policy. I conducted intense
research on the topic, and I fell into a depression during that time. So many abortions voluntary and
forced, early and late term. So much abandonment. As I read an article about all of China s abandoned
and orphaned children, I, for the first time in my life, wholly came to terms with the fact that I had
been one of those abandoned infants. I had been an almost victim of this cruel, unjust policy. When I
presented, I used my own story to open and close my speech. I addressed myself by my middle name
my Chinese name, the name they called me in the orphanage. This is Louzhi, I somberly declared. She
was abandoned and placed in an orphanage as a small child, and she is one of the millions of babies
who are affected by China s One Child Policy. I discussed the policy s history and how the only hope
for abandoned Chinese babies was adoption. Throughout that ten minute speech, I felt like an
ambassador for Louzhi. Part of me was this Chinese baby, but an even larger part of me, the part that
had no memory of my infancy, was simply Lili. I finally became Lili Louzhi as I ended my
presentation. Remember Louzhi? That was me.... I was

The Pros And Cons Of The 15th Amendment
The three Civil war amendments, the 13th, 14th, and 15th, were intended to restructure the United
States from a country that was half slave and half free to one in which the entire populace was
guaranteed blessings of liberty including former slaves and their descendants. That was the intention
at least. They attempt to grant equality to all those born or naturalized in the United States, but
through certain states continued discriminatory policies and laws, and the lack of enforcement at the
federal level to limit states power, the full promise of each Amendment were resisted for almost a
century, and still has not yet been fully realized. The 13th Amendment was more successful than the
other two with its goal of ending slavery within the United States. But some cite sharecropping as a
continuation of black servitude under white masters. Moreover, many argue the prison system s
inmate labor is a modern form of slavery. The fact that the amendment itself places punishment for
crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted as the only unprohibited form of slavery and
the disproportionately higher number of convicted African Americans contributed to this view. Many
soon realized that one Amendment was not enough to protect the rights of freed slaves, due to the
passing of Black Codes, so congress soon ratified the 14th and 15th Amendments. The 15th
Amendment prohibits voting discrimination based on race or former slave status, but not any other

The Pros And Cons Of Guerilla Warfare
Insurgency must not be jumbled up with terrorism as they overlap somehow but are totally different
entities. These two such concepts probably lead to more confusion than any other thing. Guerilla
warfare and insurgencies are often inferred to be similar with terrorism. One rationale for this is that
insurgencies has similar targets as that of terrorism. However, if we examine specific differences, a
prime difference is that an insurgency is a movement against the authorities with specific aim. Its
motive is to challenge the government regarding control of certain parts of its territory and for that
they require some support of the population, on the contrary, a terror group does not require active
support of the population. It just works for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a creative force, not an antagonistic one in some scenarios. If their approach is to improve the
spaces that belong to all of us, then that is the positive aspect of such movements. Taking a very small
example like installing temporary seating at bus stops, for people who are fed up of waiting for bus,
after their jobs and stay standing. When the authorities take no step to accommodate them, that s when
the guerillas come in. I won t naively support such acts as profound, or say that they have the strength
to solve the deep rooted problems in our cities, but the spirit of the guerilla urbanists to fix small
issues in appreciable ways should be appreciated. These are the acts that lay the foundation of a
reformatory movement, for the betterment of locales. They change the direction of our vision towards
the city. Guerrilla urbanists are not given the reform projects by the government like turning roads into
sidewalks and setting up shop in vacant buildings, which is illegal in most cities. Gradually though,
some governments have approved these projects after witnessing the positive public reception they
gain. Others have gone further and initiated such projects themselves, one of the most famous
examples is pedestrianizing Times Square in New York

Oceanic Victor claim that the tuna cage will not attract any more sharks than usual, which is odd to
say as in other circumstances in tuna pens shark wranglers have been hired to cut free sharks that have
been stuck in the nets.[4] Tuna cages attract sharks, which are drawn to fish which sometimes die in
the pens and settle in the bottoms of the floating nets. Inquisitive sharks may bite holes in nets and
enter the cages or become entangled in the nets and subsequently become distressed or drown. In
response, employees of tuna ranching operations will either enter the water and attempt to wrestle the
sharks out of the pens, or kill the shark. Species known to interact with southern bluefin tuna
operations include hammerhead sharks, bronze whalers and great white sharks. The latter species is
protected under federal Australian legislation while the former two are not. Some of these interactions
are shown in the documentary film, Tuna Wranglers (2007). [3]

CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1. INTRODUCTION TO SMART LIGHTING INNOVATION 
Everyday people expect new device and technology to simplify their day to day life. Lighting devices
are operated by the mechanical switches. In this system necessary operator is physically present to
operator the switches and operate cannot control the switches from any other places.  So to
overcome this type of problem we can design IoT technology based system for lighting appliances
which can be control from any remote places though web based graphical user interface.  This
system is a means that allow users to control electric appliances of varying kind. The goal of this
project is to operate home appliances smartly through a web server using IoT. IoT is the network of
things or physical objects which includes electronics, software, sensors, actuators and network
connectivity. All these things collect and transfer data between themselves. People have more
knowledge about these technologies and are more comfortable with its use.  We have two blocks in
our system. Transmitter block client and Receiver block user respectively.  In the transmitter block,
the client is check and control appliances like bulb. Microcontroller is control the appliances with
Feedback unit. Client is operating different lights a different mode like morning, evening and night. 
In the receiver block, server is connected to Wi Fi and receives the signal. As well as perform to the
received signal with return feedback.

The Effects Of Capitalism On The Relationships People
Durkheim perhaps provides the most analysis specifically on the effects of capitalism on the
relationships people have. In general, he argues that the Expansion of the division of labour led to a
change in social solidarity and thus the relations people had with each other. In terms of the change in
social solidarity he argues that pre capitalism society was less individualistic, as can been in his
statement that It was because men were grouped, and thought of themselves in the forms of groups,
that in their ideas they grouped other things, and in the beginning the two modes of grouping were
merged to the point of being indistinct (Durkheim, E Emirbayer, M.2003.pg.93). Durkheim refers to
this kind of social solidarity as Mechanical solidarity which means society is thus divided into quite
small components which completely envelop the individual (Durkheim,E.1902.as quoted in.
Lukes,S.1992.pg.149) therefore creating no room for individual interests and actions in societies
characterized by this form of solidarity. Durkheim further argues that this is done through the
conscience collective which is extensive and strong and harmonizes men s movements in detail
(Durkheim.1902 as quoted in.Lukes,S.1992.pg.151/152). Most importantly, Durkheim explicitly states
that Segmented social structures were further characterized by a low degree of interdependence
(Durkheim 1902 as quoted in Lukes,S.1992.pg.150). However, this form of solidarity is not what

Labor Unions And The Civil War Essay
Labor unions have existed in one way or another since the birth of our country in 1776. They were
created in an effort to protect the working population from abuses such as sweatshops and unsafe
working conditions. From the start of our Nation there were a few unions organized unions in a
scattered fashion, but many were disbanded after they had achieved their goals, such as when the
printers and shoemakers briefly unionized in Philadelphia and New York City in 1778 to conduct the
first recorded strike for higher wages. Three years later in 1971 the first successful strike happened,
when Philadelphia carpenters campaigned for a ten hour workday. This caused the need for skilled and
unskilled laborers to skyrocket during the Industrial Revolution and the Civil War and also got the ball
rolling with Labor unions. At this point in our Country, there had been nothing done yet for workers
rights, conditions, pay, and so on. People at this time saw that they could come together and do
something to make their lives better for themselves and their families. Many of these dates were
important in shaping our country s labor policies into what they are today. In 1847 New Hampshire
enacts as the first state to enforce a 10 hour workday law. In 1909 the International Ladies Garment
workers Union calls a strike in New York, demanding a 20 percent raise and a 52 hour workweek.
Within two days, more than 20,000 workers from 500 factories walk off the job. This largely

Everyday Use By Alice Walker Point Of View
Everyday Use by Alice Walker is told from the point of view of Mama who goes by no other name.
She could be referred to as Mrs. Johnson, but the line, Who ever knew a Johnson with a quick tongue?
(Walker, 337), leads me to believe that Johnson is her maiden name. To be a mother is who and what
she is, in this story, with no especial plans for when her youngest gets married. While she would be
considered the protagonist, I feel that both Maggie and Dee are as equally integral to the story, and all
have their own and share antagonists. The short story may be told from Mama s point of view but the
plot truly revolves around all three. Each of the three main characters have at least one antagonist in

they were out of style. Now, it seems, she sees the value in them, and the need to preserve. What
would happen to the quilts on the wall or the pieces of the churn when they went out of style? What if
she never thought of anything artistic to do with the dasher? What if she moved and didn t have an
alcove with a table large enough for a centerpiece, or the room for these pieces of art? We can only

Dee without the quilts (342), it s obvious which girl deserves them. This isn t lost on Mama, and in
taking action giving quilts to Maggie she stands up to her own personal antagonist and in doing so,
negates Maggie s antagonistic idea that her lot in life is to lose.
If it weren t for Dee s entitled attitude towards her family and outward lack of respect for them, you
could feel more easily that the time period was her antagonist, as well. She was not all bad, and had a

The Effects Of Estrogen And Postmenopausal Women
In this article, researchers wanted to assess the effects of estrogen and progesterone treatment on
visual and verbal cognitive function in postmenopausal women. In the abstract, researchers identified
estrogen, progesterone, and synthetic progestin as the hormones in question. However, researchers did
not identify the ultimate reason why these hormones were important to women who experienced
menopause. In fact, the researchers did not define postmenopausal women, the symptoms they
experience, or the need for hormone treatment. This presents a minor flaw; without detailing the
importance of the study, it gives off the perception that the researchers were only researching a

Even with the references that they provided, they did not extract the information and present it in a
way that made it comparable, detail by detail, to estrogen and progesterone. They were able to list why
synthetic progestin was a risk, but not as to why it was a benefit, or why synthetic progestin was being
administered in the first place for hormonal treatment. Even on line 6, on page 3, the researchers
stated despite the significant distinctions between progesterone and synthetic progestins... , but failed
to identify the significant distinctions between them. On page 2, line 15, they stated that progesterone
is likely to be more beneficial and carry fewer risks than its synthetic counterpart , but did not include
an analysis of the difference, or why cognitively they are important.
The researchers emphasized the need for a closer investigation of progesterone effects in
postmenopausal women, but continue to exclaim that it is potentially so much better than synthetic
progestin or estrogen. Results from previous studies were not operationalized to be used within means

Microcontroller Based Dc Motor Conditioning and Monitoring...
Microcontroller based DC motor Speed Conditioning and Monitoring System Abstract: The proposed
system is based on concept of monitoring and control of the various speed of a DC motor. The speed
of DC is monitor by optical decoder sensor and which is being collcted on a microcontroller which
will subsequently control the DC motor through a motor driver circuit. The values of the speed also
displayed on an LCD. The DC motor speed can be set controlled manually using a keypad.(3) The

The current flow through the motor drops as the rotational speed increases, and a free spinning motor
has very little current flow. It is only when a load is applied to the motor that slows the rotor that the
current draw through the motor increases. In an experiment of this kind made on a motor with
separately excited magnets, the following figures were obtained: |Revolutions per minute |0 |50 |100
|160 |180 |195 | |Amperes |20 |16.2 |12.2 |7.8 |6.1 |5.1 | Apparantly, if the motor had been helped on to
run at 261.5 revolutions per minute, the current would have been reduced to zero. In the last result
obtained, the current of 5.1 amperes was absorbed in driving the armature against its own friction at
the speed of 195 revolutions per minute. (6) D.C. Motors: Direct current motors are used in many
applications that require adjustable speed. In uses requiring quick stops, a dc motor can minimize the
size of a mechanical brake or make it unnecessary. This is done by dynamic braking (motor generated
energy fed to a resistor grid), or by regenerative braking (motor generated energy returned to the ac
supply). DC motor speed can be controlled smoothly down to zero, followed immediately by
acceleration

John Proctor As A Hero In John Miller s The Crucible
A spanish essayist by the name of Miguel de Unamuno once said, The greatest height of heroism to
which an individual, like a people, can attain is to know how to face ridicule. . A hero is anybody who
is willing to go above themselves to help another person, even if helping that person means sacrificing
their own life. In the book The Crucible character John Proctor does just that; he sacrifices his own
life for the greater good, he also had to face humiliation but he dealt with it well. This leads me to
believe that John proctor is a hero based upon the actions that he took throughout the entire story.
In act four John Proctor gave up his life so that his wife and children could live their lives without
being looked down upon by the society they live in. At the end of act four Proctor had two choices:
live and lose his good name, or die and defend his good name. John proctor chooses to be hanged
specifically to protect his children, his intentions are displayed when he says, I d have you see some
honesty in it. Let them that never lied die now to keep their souls. It is pretense for me, a vanity that
will not blind God nor keep my children out of the wind... ( Miller, The Crucible, pg. 143). At that
moment John Proctor realized that he would be doing himself no good, because either way he will not
be forgiven by God and by losing his good name it puts his children in harm s way. But, Proctor
choose the hard way like any true hero would; he chooses to die because he only

The Correlation Of Mental Health And Substance Use Disorder
The Correlation of Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder
Just as complex as the trillions of cells that keep our bodies functioning are the effects and correlations
of mental health and substance use disorders. The effect of substance use disorder and psychiatric
illnesses impact individuals biologically, psychologically, and sociologically, however, the correlation
among mental illnesses and substance use disorders are not clearly defined. Due to a lack of
knowledge of substance use as a disorder and the correlation with mental health, the individuals who
suffer from these conditions are marginalized and pushed to tattered edges of their social strata.
Mental health and substance use disorder can create devastating effects on the individuals as well as
their micro, meso, exo, and macrosystems, which perpetuate the negative effects and realities of these
individuals. In our current times with the mass amount of substance use the plagues our society, and
the continued high volume of mental health, it is critical that we gain an understanding of the
correlation between mental health and substance use disorders to better treat and support those whose
realties are filled with unknown pain and exile. Mental health and substance use disorder and their
affects are clearly related, however, the question that remains is whether or not substance use disorders
can create the manifestation of mental illnesses?
Mental Illness Mental illnesses are vast and far reaching, and

Allen Ginsberg Howl Essay
Allen Ginsberg s Howl portrays many different metaphors, images, and analogy s to explain his
perception of the 1950s. Howl is divided into three segments all having a different tone, style, and
significance. The first segment introduces his belief on his generation, the second explains why his
generation remained dreadful and the third is a series of personal metaphors with an assumed friend of
his. The three segments can easily remind one of the transcendentalism movement, which is based on
individualism and nonconformity. Self Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson kickstarts the movement
and its convictions, these beliefs can be easily seen in Allen Ginsberg s Howl. One potentially could
even call Allen Ginsberg a transcendentalist based on the comparison between the two writings. Both
Emerson and Ginsberg believe in the same ideals, however, the perspective in which they are writing

In both Ginsberg s poem and Waldo s essay, society creates additional harm rather than aid. Ginsberg
writes I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked,
dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix... Ginsberg reflects on
how backward his generation turned out to be because of society and the culture already at bay. A
culture of white picket fences that camouflage the mass culture and bigotry that put a strain on the
individual. The best minds were outcast of the society who didn t conform but used drugs as an angry
fix to relieve themselves. Relating this quote to Self Reliance, Emerson would compare these outcasts
to children as Emerson puts it Their mind being whole, their eye is as yet unconquered, and when we
look in their faces, we are disconcerted. Infancy conforms to nobody: all conform to it (3 Self
Reliance). Clearly expressing similarities of Emerson and Ginsberg just only from different

Opositions to Thomas Malthus Theory on Population Growth
Thomas Malthus was an early 19th century English scholar who specializes in political economy and
demographics. One of his most well known and influential works An Essay on the Principle of
Population argued that the increase in population growth would ultimately create social and economic
problems for a nation. On the contrary, many famous political economists such as Ester Boserup and
Julian Simon suggested different views about population and resource growth; which contradicts the
Malthus theory. Thomas Malthus wrote An Essay on the Principle of Population argued that the
increasing rate of population growth is the impetus of many social and economic issues that affects
our society. His belief was that population increases in geometrical scale whilst basic supply for
humans increase in arithmetical scale, I SAID THAT POPULATION, WHEN UNCHECKED,
increased in a geometrical ratio, and subsistence for man in an arithmetical ratio. (Quoted from An
Essay on the Principle of Population, Chapter 2, page 6) Malthus believed that overpopulation would
lead to mass malnutrition, famine, disease and even war. He proposed two kinds of method that could
keep the population in a sustainable level. First is preventative checks, which suggested using moral
restrains such as the practice of abstinence and criminal punishments for those who had children that
they could not support. The other method is positive checks. Positive checks are factors that could
increase the death

In exchange, the encomendero could force the Native Americans to pay tribute in forms of bullion and
labor. Eventually, the native people began to die off from the harsh labor and foreign diseases that the
Spanish brought from Spain. The Native Americans rejected Spanish control and returned to their
customs. Angered by this, the Spanish captured 46 Pueblo leaders, which started the Pueblo Revolt.
After years of fighting, the Spanish regained control. In New England, relationships with local Native
Americans started out peaceful. The Native Americans and settlers of New England began to trade
with each other. Native Americans, who were used to their elementary weapons, acquired better
weapons from the Europeans. This once beneficiary exchange between the two cultures eventually
grew tense. As years went on and more settlers came to America, conflicts arose. An agreement
formed between Dutch settlers of New York and the English settlers of New England about the
division of the Pequot lands. When no immediate decisions were reached of who would gain the land,
New Englanders started to settle in the area without notice. The Pequot took this unplanned invasion
as a form of attack, and fought back. After a series of attacks, New England called for reinforcements
from allies. By joining forces with Plymouth and the Narragansett people, the English gained control

Asset-Liability Management
Asset Liability Management
Asset Liability Management (ALM) can be defined as the ongoing process of formulating,
implementing, monitoring and revising strategies related to assets and liabilities to achieve an
organization s financial objectives, given the organization s risk tolerances and other constraints [1].
ALM also is known as balance sheet management. In banking activity the gap between assets and
liabilities can bring some consequences where the following risks are arose. And as a whole it
influences badly on the bank s functioning. Solving that problem is the primary goal of ALM. The
good balance sheet management means that the return on loans and securities as the highest as

Benefits and drawbacks of asset securitization
Before asset securitization was created, banks lent money to households and companies and these
loans existed in the banks balance sheets until they mature or are paid off. This creates a mismatching
of assets and liabilities because typically banks use deposits and issuance of debts as a provision of
loans. And both of them have shorter period of maturity then banks lending especially cars and
mortgages loans. Since the bank started to use securities backed by assets or in other words it started
to transfer the ownership of the assets to SPVs, the great opportunities have began widely available for
the bank. And the main of that fee income and additional trading opportunities are providing.
Securitization is the process of transforming illiquid assts into marketable securities. This helps banks
to maintain or even increase their liquidity because long term loans are replaced to SPVs. As a
consequence, the gap between balance sheet sides also is diminished. And as a result the position of
the bank becomes more stable and it frees up capital to provide new loans. In other words, the
opportunity for bank to lend additional funds to the consumers appears. Moreover, securitization
provides quick access to funds that

Ned Kelly, A Hero Or A Villain
Ned Kelly was certainly a villain rather a hero
Ned Kelly was certainly a villain due to his violent and bloodthirsty behavior throughout his life. Even
as a child, Ned was involved in trouble and developed an early life of crime. To contribute to the
crimes, Ned Kelly is to blame for infamous attack at Stringybark Creek. Finally Kelly was the gang
leader in the merciless shootout of the Glenrowan Siege. Kelly s trouble with the law quickly
escalated through indecent behaviour, assault and stock theft to police killer.
Ned Kelly is definitely a villain because of his development of an early endless life of crime. Kelly did
not receive a normal childhood and was instead meddling with the law. The Kelly s were often in
trouble with the police over horse and cattle theft. At the age of fourteen in 1869, Kelly was arrested
and served seven weeks in jail for the alleged assault of Ah Fook, a Chinese pig farmer. At such a
young age, Ned Kelly was already known for his crimes and explains why he is undeniably a villain.
Furthermore, as Kelly grew older his crimes started to worsen. Again in 1869, Ned was alleged of
being assistant to thief turned bushranger Harry Power and was charged for helping out during some
robberies. Due to these interactions with people doing crime, Kelly was further drawn into the world
of crime. Kelly was again jailed in 1870 for three years after assaulting a hawker (salesperson) and
also being in possession of a stolen horse. Ned Kelly s criminal actions didn t end there. On the 15th
of April, 1878, Kelly shot at Constable Alexander Fitzpatrick in the wrist after he became too friendly
with his sister Kate. Kelly s crime rate was endless.Later the Kelly gang led by their leader Ned Kelly,
committed some major robberies in the National Bank branches at Euroa and Jerilderie. At Jerilderie,
the gang even held police and civilians hostage while stealing all the money from the bank s vaults.
Ned Kelly s early life was corrupted in crime with theft and assault and added towards his increase in
villainy.
Ned Kelly was certainly a villain rather than a hero due to his barbaric actions at Stringybark Creek.
Stringybark Creek was the new hiding point for the Kelly gang. On the 26th of October

Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska Research Paper
Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska was born Helena Kowalska on August 25, 1905 in Głogowiec, Poland.
Helena s family was very religious, so she and her nine siblings grew up with an understanding of the
Catholic faith, despite their immense poverty. It was apparent that she was deeply interested in
Catholicism from a very young age. She first attended Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at the
impressionable age of seven. From there, her love of prayer and devotion to the Lord only increased.
She celebrated her first Holy Communion at age nine. Helena only had a three year education. Right
when she got out of school, she wanted to enter a convent. However, her parents refused to give her
permission. Once she became old enough, Helena got a job as a housekeeper to support herself and
her family. She never could have expected the coming wonders the Lord had in store for her. Around
1924, Helena had the privilege of experiencing her first vision of Christ. She was at a dance with her
sister when she saw an image of Jesus covered in wounds from his suffering on the cross. Helena
rushed to a cathedral and began to pray. There, she heard a voice tell her to leave immediately and set
off for a convent in Warsaw, Poland. She complied and joined the Sisters ... Show more content on

mercy. After being advised to do so by her spiritual counselor, she recorded this image in her diary,
along with many following enncounters with Christ. One of her other visions was of Jesus telling her
to have someone create a painting of him as the King of Divine Mercy. Throughout the years, Sister
Faustina continued to speak to Christ and acted as his advocate for

Management 1.1 WHAT IS SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT? Fierce competition in today s global
markets, the introduction of products with shorter life cycles, and the heightened expectations of
customers have forced business enterprises to invest in, and focus attention on, their supply chains.
This, together with continuing advances in communications and transportation technologies (e.g.,
mobile communication, Internet, and overnight delivery), has motivated the continuous evolution of
the supply chain and of the techniques to manage it effectively. In a typical supply chain, raw
materials are procured and items are produced at one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although many of these concepts are useful and insightful, for the purposes of this text, we will use
supply chain management as the generic name for the set of concepts, approaches, strategies, and
ideas that we are discussing. What makes supply chain management difficult? Although we will
discuss a variety of reasons throughout this text, they can all be related to some or all of the following
observations: 1. Supply chain strategies cannot be determined in isolation. They are directly affected
by another chain that most organizations have, the development chain that includes the set of activities
associated with new product introduction. At the same time, supply chain strategies also should be
aligned with the specific goals of the organization, such as maximizing market share or increasing
profit. 2. It is challenging to design and operate a supply chain so that total systemwide costs are
minimized, and systemwide service levels are maintained. Indeed, it is frequently difficult to operate a
single facility so that costs are minimized and service level is maintained. The difficulty increases
exponentially when an entire smi8239X_ch01_001 026.qxd 2/27/07 11:22 PM Page 3 CHAPTER 1:

Cafo s Essay
Concentrated animal feeding operations, also known as CAFO s, are large industrialized agricultural
operations that confine thousands of animals in an enclosed location for feeding, breeding and
production farming purposes. These operations are taking over smaller, family run farms that are
raising animals ethically and environmentally friendly. CAFO s are raising beef cattle, dairy cattle,
poultry, fish and other animals for mass production to feed the ever growing demand for meat and
poultry consumption. These large scale operations are cutting out the small farms that cannot compete
in the food production industry.
This inhumane way of raising animals is upsetting many environmentalists who see this type of
farming as animal cruelty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This mass production creates a scale of economy that allows the finished product to be available to
consumers at a lower cost. CAFO s are an economic necessity that allows enough meat, poultry, fish
and other animal products to be produced to feed humans globally. While some small farms may not
be able to compete, there is a trickle down effect that helps boost the regional and national economies.
CAFO s create local jobs in rural areas, increase tax dollars and also support other economic
development.
CAFO s are a direct response to globalization, as well as to increasing demand as the population
continues to grow. People want to buy a food product that is of the same quality, a standardized
product, every time. With the help of technological advancement, humans can harness the tools they
have available to produce enough food, therefore, more farms should switch to the best methods
available. Environmentalists who oppose CAFO s are fundamental Luddites and will only obstruct

How Did Humanism Influence Renaissance Art
Humanism is the intellectual movement of the Renaissance based on the study of the humanities,
which include grammar, rhetoric, poetry, moral philosophy, and history. Humanities were very
important during the Renaissance and still are today. As the power of the Catholic Church decreased,
many people turned away from religious morality and focused on studies of the liberal arts to prepare
for life. As a result of this, humanism influenced the whole continent of Europe. Along with literature,
art was a very important part of Renaissance culture. With the expansion of humanism throughout
Europe, art became significantly influenced by this movement throughout the Renaissance. Artists
began to make paintings of human bodies and their realities and dramas. Two main developments
affected the result of artistic works. First, artists utilized the laws of perspective to organize outdoor
space and light through geometry. Second, artists portrayed their understanding of the development of
movement and human anatomy through details in the faces and bodies of figures in their paintings.
Three pieces of Renaissance art exhibit a substantial use of humanism: the Mona Lisa, School of
Athens, and The Tribute Money.
The Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci has been renowned as the best known piece of art in the world.
Da Vinci was quite ingenuous, as he was a successful artist, scientist, inventor, and visionary. He
synthesized his background of science with his work in the arts. For example, da

  • 2. Fear In Finding Nemo Finding Nemo (2003) is a very touching animated film about a father s journey to find his son. Marlin, the father, is known as overprotective and wary of all dangers of the sea. Nemo is his only son, and after a near death experience, Marlin spends his days mostly confined to his sea anemone home avoiding all possible dangers of the world. Nemo is a very curious and sheltered fish who wants to experience the world. When this curiosity gets him kidnapped by a sea diver, Marlin s worst fear is now his reality. Finding Nemo is a heartwarming tale with a strong theme of facing and conquering your fears. The first scene in Finding Nemo, the audience sees Marlin and his wife admiring their soon to be babies when suddenly the scene turns dark. The music in the film stops, along with all sounds of ocean life. Dark shadows are created in the film to fill the audience with fear and dread. The fish are then attacked by a larger hungry fish leaving Marlin s wife and all but one of their babies dead. The fear and sadness is apparent when Marlin sheds a tear whilst holding the quivering egg that would soon be his son. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The audience is easily able to identify moments during the film where danger is imminent by studying the patterns. Before every dangerous scene, there is a pause a stop, of all activity going on around the characters. The makers of the film tried to create a realistic oceanic scene while still adding a little fantasy as well. Realism is a natural style of acting used to make the movie seem 100% possible and real in the eyes of the audience, (Goodykoontz Jacobs, 2014). The use of underwater sound effects, fish activity, and bright, scientifically accurate color schemes pulls the audience in and begs them to stretch their imagination to accept this new reality. Before every scene, all activity ceases, all music ends, and the colors become dull or even dark ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Why Is Banquo Important In Macbeth To be sensible is to be realistic, reasonable, and rational. Many characters throughout various writing pieces are portrayed as sensible. Amongst all, one of them is the Thane of Lochaber. In Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Banquo is much more sensible in contrast to Macbeth because he questions unnatural events, seeks help from light, and reacts to murder smartly. To begin, when Banquo and Macbeth encounter the witches, Banquo asks the more realistic question when Macbeth wants to get more deceitful information. Banquo says Good sir, why do you start and seem to fear/ Things that do sound so fair? I the name of truth,/ Are ye fantastical, or that indeed/ Which actually ye show? (I.iii.54 56). Banquo is logical and asks the important question of whether the witches are illusions trying to fool them or not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And to be king/ Stands not within the prospect of belief,/ No more than to be Cawdor. Say from whence/ You owe this strange intelligence? Or why. Upon this blasted heath you stop our way/ With such prophetic greeting? Speak, I charge you, (I.iii.76 81). The fact that Banquo asks of the witch s realism, while Macbeth trusts their words, proves that Banquo is a sensible character. Furthermore, Banquo seeks help from holy beings to hide his desires, unlike Macbeth, who calls out to darkness. Banquo states, A heavy summons lies like lead upon me,/ And yet I would not sleep. Merciful powers,/ Restrain in me the cursed thoughts that nature/ Gives way to in repose! (II.i.7 10). Banquo chooses to pray to angels to keep away his nightmares. In contrast, Macbeth is unwise because he calls out for darkness to hide light from seeing his motives. Stars hide your fires;/ let not light see my black and deep desires, (!.iv.57 58). Banquo s plead to angels is a more sensible appeal then to Macbeth s asking darkness to hide away light, an unwise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Byzantine Empire Dbq Essay Through the chaos and anarchy from the destruction of Rome emerged a powerful empire. It all began in 323CE when a young general named Constantine became the Emperor of Rome. He was quick to make some changes, including moving the imperial capital from Rome to Byzantium, but he renamed it Constantinople. The Byzantine Empire was separated from the Roman Empire s collapse so it managed to survive and maintain order in the east. In 1054 the Byzantines split from the Roman Catholic Church in the west and developed the Eastern Orthodox Church. They prospered for almost a thousand years, but fell to the Turks in 1453. Additional, since both incumbents had access to national assets, four years of on the job training, and insider information they were able to speak in depth on a wide range of issues both foreign and domestic. In 2004, the largest and most important issue to the nation was the war in Iraqi and in 2012 it was the nation s economy. Campaign Strategies used by the incumbents in both the 2004 and 2012 presidential elections were direct and aggressive, using media outlets to launch phased targeting to discredit candidates by highlighting indecisiveness and lacking of understand on controversial issues. In both elections the candidates that successful used the media were able to garnered support from nation as they were able to stay steps ahead of their opponents, forcing them to constantly defend themselves and legalize their campaigns. For example, President Obama used ads to undermine Mitt Romney s time running the investment firm Bain Capital (strength of Romney s campaign) against him, stating that because of Mitt Romney s time at Bain he would be unable to relate to average. This forced Romney to alter his campaign strategy as more Americans began to question Romney stance on multiple issues, especially taxes, during an election in which the primary issue was the nation s economy. Similar strategies were utilized in the 2004 and 2012 elections, giving the incumbents a huge advantage from day one. When you combine the election results and campaign strategy with the voter turnout with only a 2 5 percent difference in voting age population turnout, it is clear why both elections resulted in the incumbent being reelected. • 9. Erica Fryberg Friendships is a poem by Erica Fryberg that can relate to almost anybody who has experienced real and fake friendships, as it is about the speaker s perspective on friendships, and the difference between having real and fake friends, forced friendships and real friendships. Through a comparison of friendships and furniture, the poet uses a humorous tone to describe friendships, making the speaker relatable. I particularly enjoyed this, as on a personal level I was able to relate to this, as a student at a school where teachers attempted to force unnatural relationships multiple times. Overall, this poem was an engaging poem, which, through language and poetic devices, clearly described the difference between real and fake friendships. As the title implies, the subject matter of this poem are friendships, and real and fake friends. The first stanza describes how forced friendships are often fake, and are only an idealized image of real friendships, made only for the purpose of pleasing the teacher. Through a comparison of furniture and friendships, the poet depicts the fakeness of the forced friendships, and how they seem polished and shine like glass, yet are also easily shattered. • 10. How Much Influence Has A Little Country Have On The Great... Just how much influence could a little country have on the great United States of America? One may be surprised. With a size slightly less than twice the size of New Jersey, Switzerland has a lot to offer for its size (The World Factbook). The country is located in central Europe, north of Italy and east of France, and shares their temperate climate. This landlocked terrain mostly consists of mountains, with a central plateau of rolling hills, plains, and large lakes (The World Factbook). Despite their relatively small size and their centralized location, they have a large influence on the rest of the world. Specifically to the United States, the Swiss have brought their culture, merchandise, and services to share with the people of America. Switzerland has a relatively short history. In 1291 A.D., the Swiss Confederation was founded as a defense alliance between three cantons of modern day Uri, Schwyz, and Unterwalden (Schelbert). Wars of conquest and arranged alliances grew the confederation (Schelbert). In 1499, the Confederation gained its independence from the Holy Roman Empire (The World Factbook). In 1515, the now 13 canton confederation ended their expansion with their defeat in northern Italy at the battle of Marignano (Schelbert). The Swiss Confederation then started conducting the practice of armed neutrality (Schelbert). • 11. Summary Of Brahms Symphony No. 4 Brahms wrote Symphony No. 4 in E Minor in 1884. The work was first performed in Meiningen, Germany in October 1885 and was an instant success because of its masterful composition and unique style. Brahms s music and his fourth symphony are often viewed as a bridge between the music of the baroque and romantic era. Although Brahms is considered to be a romantic composer, his music is unique from others because you can hear both the style of older era composers and features of romantic style in the texture of his works. This combination of baroque and romantic style in his music helps create more balance in the music, which gives it a blend that captured audiences and still entrances them today. Brahms was also inspired by study of Beethoven s symphonies for their orchestral color and harmonic structure; Brahms incorporates these features he enjoyed into his writing. The fourth movement of Brahms symphony No. 4 is titled Allegro energico e passianato and is known for its use of the Baroque style of Chaconne and other features that are found in the Romantic style as well. Some of these include chromaticism, a melody that jumps between major and minor keys but does not settle into a single mode, and extended techniques to creature a richness and a wide pallet of sounds. Brahms was a scholar and had a strong interest in Baroque music. His fourth movement makes use of the Chaconne style. • 13. Brief Summary And Theoretical Molar Heat Of Combustion Graph 1 Description: This graph is identical to experiment 1 graph 1 as it compares the experimental and theoretical molar heats of combustion. Being the same concept this graph shows how the experimental molar heat of combustion is a scale less than the theoretical molar heat of combustion. The significance behind the scale of this graph where the experimental is lower that the theoretical, is how there is a pattern for which every fuel follows the same trend. Also it shows the average heats of combustion and which alkane has the leading heat output rate. Graph 2 Description: This graph is identical to experiment 1 graph 2 as it shows a pattern between the scales of carbon atoms. The higher amount of carbon in a longer chain results in a higher molar heat of combustion. As the change in mass and temperature is small for both candle wax (and paraffin in this experiment), it is clear that there is little changes when these fuels are combusting in their physical states. This means that these fuels last longer but are an unreliable source of energy as a fuel. The change in temperature being small suggests that these alkanes produce poor heat output, however that fully contradicts their high experimental and theoretical heats of combustion and percentage yields. The fact that the change in temperature was so low can be experimental side effects. One being that candle wax particularly produces the extra energy source of light possibly more so than paraffin and even the experiment 1 alcohols. Leadership Styles From The Point Of View Comparative Analysis The articles under analysis explore leadership styles from the point of view of their relation to gender (Merchant, 2012) and personality (Yahaya et al., 2011). Merchant (2012) provides a valuable research, which is focused on gender as the major determinant of leadership styles in individuals. Providing an analysis of literature, Merchant (2012) indicates that many studies analyzing the intersection of gender and influence tactics have resulted in mixed finding (p. 24). It proves the argument that gender stereotypes play a major role in attributing particular roles for females and males on the basis of their biological sex and what is expected of them. Personal Leadership Style My leadership style is both Participative and Democratic, and it is influenced by the three variables gender, personality, and age. Democratic Leader makes the final decision, only after receiving the input and recommendations of all team members, (Goetsch, 2002). I focus on getting to the bottom of the problem with working through it. Effect of Gender Though gender is a contradictory variable in affecting leadership styles, I should note that gender does play an important role in the way I influence other people. In this aspect, I should agree with Merchant (2012), who indicate, women value cooperation [...] and have a less clear focus on where the boundaries of their friendships end and their individual identities begin (p. 18). As a female, I feel I have to work harder than a male doing the same job. Essay Comparing the Culture of Cambodia and American Culture Comparing the Culture of Cambodia and American Culture After reading the novel Children of the River, I have learned some customs that people in Cambodia practice in their country. In this essay, I shall describe some examples of their traditions and contrast them with the American culture as shown in the novel and Honduran culture of which I am most familiar. One good example of this contrast is when Sundara, the main character of the novel, explains to Jonathan (Pg 23) that in Cambodia, students at school show respect to their teachers. Students don t ask questions to their teachers if they don t understand a lesson. In their culture, asking such questions is a sign of disrespect. Sundara explains in the novel that people ... In Cambodia it is impolite and rude not to show respect to adults. They bow and show consideration to them. In my opinion, this practice is used in many countries too. In Honduras, if a person doesn t show respect for the elderly, he or she would be considered rude to others. In addition, in page 84, Sundara tells Jonathan that in Cambodia a girl doesn t go out with a boy alone. Cambodian girls are not allowed to go out without company. It is not part of their customs; it is not acceptable in her country. For Sundara it is difficult to explain to Jonathan that she must not be disobedient even though they are not doing anything wrong. She needs to follow her traditions. Another interesting Cambodian custom (Pg. 109) is when Sundara tells Jonathan that in Cambodia people believe that is bad to touch a little kid s head. The Strategies of Globalization and Regionalization Globalization and Regionalization: As a concept that has become common since the 1990s, globalization is described as the technological, economic, cultural, ideological, and economic changes across borders. It can also be regarded as the transformation of the global economy through the anarchy of financial markets or a technological revolution with social impacts. In contrast, regionalization is the growth of societal integration within a specific area that incorporates all the undirected procedures of economic and social interactions among the units in the region. Since these concepts are different in nature, they contain various strategies that are only effective in specific situations. Strategies of Globalization and Regionalization: The concept of globalization has become a prevalent phenomenon in the past two decades because of the changes it has brought and the adoption of its strategies by multinational corporations or companies. The economic changes of globalization include the strengthening of economic inter dependence, internationalization of production, and enhanced mobility of transnational corporations. On the other hand, trade liberalization, privatization, and deregulation are the ideological changes emanating from this concept. • 22. The Pros And Cons Of The 15th Amendment The three Civil war amendments, the 13th, 14th, and 15th, were intended to restructure the United States from a country that was half slave and half free to one in which the entire populace was guaranteed blessings of liberty including former slaves and their descendants. That was the intention at least. They attempt to grant equality to all those born or naturalized in the United States, but through certain states continued discriminatory policies and laws, and the lack of enforcement at the federal level to limit states power, the full promise of each Amendment were resisted for almost a century, and still has not yet been fully realized. The 13th Amendment was more successful than the other two with its goal of ending slavery within the United States. But some cite sharecropping as a continuation of black servitude under white masters. Moreover, many argue the prison system s inmate labor is a modern form of slavery. The fact that the amendment itself places punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted as the only unprohibited form of slavery and the disproportionately higher number of convicted African Americans contributed to this view. Many soon realized that one Amendment was not enough to protect the rights of freed slaves, due to the passing of Black Codes, so congress soon ratified the 14th and 15th Amendments. • 29. The Effects Of Capitalism On The Relationships People Durkheim perhaps provides the most analysis specifically on the effects of capitalism on the relationships people have. In general, he argues that the Expansion of the division of labour led to a change in social solidarity and thus the relations people had with each other. In terms of the change in social solidarity he argues that pre capitalism society was less individualistic, as can been in his statement that It was because men were grouped, and thought of themselves in the forms of groups, that in their ideas they grouped other things, and in the beginning the two modes of grouping were merged to the point of being indistinct (Durkheim, E Emirbayer, M.2003.pg.93). Durkheim refers to this kind of social solidarity as Mechanical solidarity which means society is thus divided into quite small components which completely envelop the individual (Durkheim,E.1902.as quoted in. Lukes,S.1992.pg.149) therefore creating no room for individual interests and actions in societies characterized by this form of solidarity. Durkheim further argues that this is done through the conscience collective which is extensive and strong and harmonizes men s movements in detail (Durkheim.1902 as quoted in.Lukes,S.1992.pg.151/152). Most importantly, Durkheim explicitly states that Segmented social structures were further characterized by a low degree of interdependence (Durkheim 1902 as quoted in Lukes,S.1992.pg.150). They were created in an effort to protect the working population from abuses such as sweatshops and unsafe working conditions. From the start of our Nation there were a few unions organized unions in a scattered fashion, but many were disbanded after they had achieved their goals, such as when the printers and shoemakers briefly unionized in Philadelphia and New York City in 1778 to conduct the first recorded strike for higher wages. Three years later in 1971 the first successful strike happened, when Philadelphia carpenters campaigned for a ten hour workday. This caused the need for skilled and unskilled laborers to skyrocket during the Industrial Revolution and the Civil War and also got the ball rolling with Labor unions. At this point in our Country, there had been nothing done yet for workers rights, conditions, pay, and so on. People at this time saw that they could come together and do something to make their lives better for themselves and their families. Many of these dates were important in shaping our country s labor policies into what they are today. In 1847 New Hampshire enacts as the first state to enforce a 10 hour workday law. In 1909 the International Ladies Garment workers Union calls a strike in New York, demanding a 20 percent raise and a 52 hour workweek. She could be referred to as Mrs. Johnson, but the line, Who ever knew a Johnson with a quick tongue? (Walker, 337), leads me to believe that Johnson is her maiden name. To be a mother is who and what she is, in this story, with no especial plans for when her youngest gets married. While she would be considered the protagonist, I feel that both Maggie and Dee are as equally integral to the story, and all have their own and share antagonists. The short story may be told from Mama s point of view but the plot truly revolves around all three. What would happen to the quilts on the wall or the pieces of the churn when they went out of style? What if she never thought of anything artistic to do with the dasher? What if she moved and didn t have an alcove with a table large enough for a centerpiece, or the room for these pieces of art? We can only imagine, because as soon as Maggie says that Dee can have them, and that she can member Grandma Dee without the quilts (342), it s obvious which girl deserves them. This isn t lost on Mama, and in taking action giving quilts to Maggie she stands up to her own personal antagonist and in doing so, negates Maggie s antagonistic idea that her lot in life is to lose. If it weren t for Dee s entitled attitude towards her family and outward lack of respect for them, you could feel more easily that the time period was her antagonist, as well. The Effects Of Estrogen And Postmenopausal Women In this article, researchers wanted to assess the effects of estrogen and progesterone treatment on visual and verbal cognitive function in postmenopausal women. In the abstract, researchers identified estrogen, progesterone, and synthetic progestin as the hormones in question. The current flow through the motor drops as the rotational speed increases, and a free spinning motor has very little current flow. It is only when a load is applied to the motor that slows the rotor that the current draw through the motor increases. In the book The Crucible character John Proctor does just that; he sacrifices his own life for the greater good, he also had to face humiliation but he dealt with it well. This leads me to believe that John proctor is a hero based upon the actions that he took throughout the entire story. In act four John Proctor gave up his life so that his wife and children could live their lives without being looked down upon by the society they live in. At the end of act four Proctor had two choices: live and lose his good name, or die and defend his good name. The Correlation Of Mental Health And Substance Use Disorder The Correlation of Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Just as complex as the trillions of cells that keep our bodies functioning are the effects and correlations of mental health and substance use disorders. The effect of substance use disorder and psychiatric illnesses impact individuals biologically, psychologically, and sociologically, however, the correlation among mental illnesses and substance use disorders are not clearly defined. Helena s family was very religious, so she and her nine siblings grew up with an understanding of the Catholic faith, despite their immense poverty. It was apparent that she was deeply interested in Catholicism from a very young age. She first attended Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at the impressionable age of seven. As a result of this, humanism influenced the whole continent of Europe. Along with literature, art was a very important part of Renaissance culture. With the expansion of humanism throughout Europe, art became significantly influenced by this movement throughout the Renaissance.
