The Svalbard Global Seed Vault
With all of the going s on in the world today, a disruptive political Presidential campaign, global
warming, countries at war with each other, financial deficit, drug abuse, refugee problems, political
and social instability, unequal distribution of financial resources, unemployment, population growth,
and the worlds top problems which are poverty, hunger and water crisis the world seems to be in a
pretty bleak place to be in. (listverse.us) The world s natural resources are quickly being used up to
extinction or are very close to that. From different species of animals to the planet s natural resources
from natural gas to fresh water, our planet s natural resources are quickly eroding. The Food and
Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has the prediction of complete water scarcity by 2025

What Is The Domino Theory Related To The Vietnam War
During World War II there was a total of about 40 days of combat in four years, whereas during the
Vietnam War there were 240 days of combat in one year. The Vietnam War was both devastating and
deceiving. America was not able to successfully save South Vietnam from communist rule, and yet
they still suffered a great amount of loss. The Vietnam War presented a plethora of issue to the United
States and Southeast Asia. The United States suffered a lot of casualties and the U.S. lost a lot of
money. Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos also suffered many casualties and Cambodia and Laos were no
longer peaceful. The war was deceiving because the United States government was not completely
honest about secret attacks on Laos and Cambodia. The Vietnam War should not have happened
because it affected citizens in America, it brought neutral countries into a war, and all of the countries
involved suffered tremendous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
President Dwight Eisenhower said, You have a row of dominoes set up; you knock over the first one,
and what will happen to the last one is that it will go over very quickly, which supports that he firmly
believed in this theory. Because of the domino theory, the United States felt it was their duty to stop
the spread of communism in Asia. So, the United States did have good intentions in the Vietnam War,
but in the end, the goal of protecting South Vietnam was not successful. The United States, after many
years of fighting, started to withdraw troops from Vietnam in June of 1969. Finally, on January 27,
1973, the United States fully withdrew from the Vietnam War. Even though the United States
withdrew before the end of the war, the damage was already gone. On April 30, 1975, Saigon fell to
North Vietnam; the United States had failed to complete their end goal and the loss was not worth

During my time as Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET), I was exposed to best manufacturing practices
in the automotive industry and provided with an opportunity to learn as well as implement engineering
principles to various projects. My first assignment was to Stabilise Production and Delivery of Tata
Super Ace vehicle , where I was made in charge of a production shift and had to supervise 18 workers.
This assignment provided me with an opportunity to interact with workers and manage them. I
prepared a Skill Matrix Chart of these workers which helped me identify their skills and expertise, and
areas for improvement. Hence by assigning right person to do the right job and exposing them to
necessary training programs, I was able to substantially increase their workmanship skills. The
improvement in their skills had positive impact on their working and resulted into not only increasing
the productivity by 28% but also drastically increasing the build quality of the vehicles. My second
project was Mapping production capacities of Suppliers at Tata Motors Vendor park . As our plant was
targeting to reach production of 1250 vehicles per day, we had to map out existing capacities of the 65
odd suppliers located at our vendor, from whom we sourced 80% of our components. This opportunity
provided me with a platform to be exposed to diverse manufacturing

Asian Americans And African Americans
By the time of a century ago, Asian America has been considered lazy and stupid. So model minority
were described Asian Americans as a hard working, Well educated, successfully minority race. But
otherwise it s not the truly idea to believe in positive model minority because sometimes it s also
negative. It s happened to most of Asian Americans and they realized that, at the start point it s been
100 percent positive, but when you go along, then it will turn to be negative and sometime it s hurting
you. Even know that the result of the American based on an untruth of a model minority, the truth is
telling a different story. Consequently Asian Americans are twice as likely to be poor as non Hispanic
whites. They also have an incapacity of reading and writing rate that is five times over those non
Hispanic. So that, how could they say that Asian Americans are hard working, Well educated,
successfully minority race by looking at this situation. It s a stereotyping that hurting people by
looking down on the background, but exactly they don t. However, the half truth of the model
minority has not entirely gone off the mark. By the estimate of the bureau data Facts for Features:
Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month: May 2014 , there is some truth of thinking that American is
better educated and more successful. For example, The percentage of Native Hawaiians and Other

Comparing Ray Bradbury s Dark They Were, And Golden-Eyed
In the story Dark They Were, and Golden Eyed by Ray Bradbury, there is this group of intelligent
human beings who realized that Earth would one day receive an atomic bomb that would end the
populations on Earth. These humans became very frightened of their predictions so they bought a
ticket to Mars and flew off to safety, or what they thought was safety. The humans thought they found
the perfect place to repopulate their species but they were wrong, they were restarting the Martian
species. They were completely changed and lost all memory of Earth. After this story was written,
Michael McDonough produced a radio play that had had different interpretations and details of the
original text. These two versions of the story both have differences and similarities of each ... Show

The wind is mention in both of the stories constantly and is described just about the same way. Even
though the wind is constantly mentioned throughout the versions of the story almost in the same way,
in the radio play the producers add in sound effects of the wind, music and silence that there original

Technology Is The World Keep Changing
Introduction Technology is said to be usage of knowledge of various tools, techniques and other
sequence of mathematical coded electronic instruction by man to fabricate a model to solving
problems or to improve upon preexisting ones. Also, one may just say it is an application in which
human apply to solving problems. As the world keep changing, so do technology. Today technology
has inspired a lot of change into the way we do things or relate to certain problems. We will all agree
that, we cannot talk about technology without mentioning inventions. Most importantly, it is an
undeniable fact that, all the sophisticated gadget we see around were invented through the application
of science and technology. Some of these gadgets such as cell phones, computers, tablets, etc. have
indeed made life so easy to operate and also help in creating non existing jobs. Burkhardt, M. E.,
Brass, D. J. (1990) states that, the computer system offered distributed processing capabilities,
including file editing, data base management, statistical analysis, spreadsheet analysis, and word
processing to all employees. Prior to the introduction of distributive processing capabilities, an
external computing facility was accessed for computer analysis of research data for all employees .

The Stranger
After only a few days of trial, the jury in The Stranger declares that the main character, Meursault, is
to be executed by guillotine in the town square. The trial and its verdict are one of the important parts
of the novel, as Albert Camus uses them as a metaphor to summarize the two main tenets of
absurdism. Camus uses the trial and persecution of Meursault to express his belief that the justice
system is flawed because of his absurdist ideals that truth does not exist, and human life is precious. In
order to reform the justice system, Albert Camus believes that capital punishment needs to be
abolished.
The trial portrays the absurdist ideal that absolute truth does not exist. This ideal destroys the very
purpose of the trial, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All the facts the prosecutor presents are valid and true, though unrelated to his case. From the
prosecutor s point of view, Meursault is a monster, a man without morals (96). Even Meursault agrees
that what he was saying was plausible (99). The reader, who knows all of Meursault s thoughts, knows
how absurd the prosecution s accusations are. Throughout the trial, Camus explains that perception
means everything, and there is no absolute truth.
The conviction of Meursault represents another main point of absurdism, that life is precious. It only
takes forty five minutes for an entire jury to unanimously decide to send Meursault to the guillotine,
which is unreasonable. Camus is trying to point this out as one of society s wrongdoings. The
prosecutor s argument had appealed to the jury s emotions and society s standards rather than reason.
If the jury had not felt the emotions that were supposed to influence their decision, the prosecutor s
argument would have seemed completely irrational. In a rational world, Meursault s emotions
regarding his mother or her funeral would not have influenced his verdict. Meursault commits a crime
against an Arab, while Raymond, who had also done so earlier in the book, did not get into any
trouble. He would still be found guilty, but only for the crime he committed. This would have
definitely lightened his sentence; however, Meursault is sentenced to death. Camus proves the court s
hypocrisy and shows how human

Examples Of Medical Discourse
Medical Discourse
An example of a major discourse operating in the contemporary world is a medical discourse. Frow
states that discourse is a mode of organization of knowledge in relation to material institutions (2005,
pg. 93); some of these institutions include hospitals, government health care, and the World Health
Organization.
Constructs the topic:
According to Hall, discourse is the production of knowledge through language (1997, pg. 44) and it is
through discourse that the topic is constructed. It is because of medical discourse that we have a
universal definition of health and a set of socially accepted rules that dictate how we should talk about
and discuss illness. Medicine is the term we use to describe the science of treating ... Show more

93) which lends itself to the idea that medical interaction is shaped by the context in which it takes
place (Anspach 1988, pg. 358). In a hospital, when doctors or nurses are discussing patients, the
language would usually be technical and clinical, perhaps using abbreviations and slang, and that is
what makes sense in the context of that conversation. However, if a doctor were to be talking to the
patient instead, the language would still be quite scientific but the doctor would likely adjust what they
re saying so the patient can understand them better. Both of these are customary ways of
communicating within the medical discourse and are accepted because of their individual contexts; as
Frow put it, certain regimes of treatment...are legitimized and prevail against others (2005, pg. 12).
However, if a patient went to the hospital and told the doctor they were getting migraines because of a
blockage in their third eye chakra the doctor would assert that that wasn t the case and would then
ascribe the patient s symptoms to a legitimate illness. The fact that the patient thought their illness was
related to their chakras would make sense if they had gone to a naturopath, but in the context of
modern medicine and the medical discourse this seems

Economic Theories and Policies After World War II
Throughout the United States history, especially after World War I, there have been many competing
economic theories about government policy. The architects of the most referenced policies tend to be
John Maynard Keynes, Friedrich Hayek of the Austrian School of economic thought and Ayn Rand
(though it can be argued Rand s ideas are more philosophy than economic theory.) These three
theories seem to be always in the forefront of any economic discussions taking place in the United
States. Ayn Rand s main belief in the economic system is to have a completely unregulated laissez
faire economy. She espoused the need for government to leave the people alone, and let them try to
fulfill their own desires. She argues that the government are looters that take with threat of force the
earnings of the people and then redistributes the ill gotten capital to moochers , or people who depend
on the government for some sort of assistance (Seabrook, NPR). She contends that government
interference will cause the producers or capitalist to pack up and leave everyone else behind. She
demonstrates her argument through her most well known novels, The Fountainhead and Atlas
Shrugged (Ayn Rand, Wikipedia). Ayn Rand s theory tends to mesh well with libertarian and
conservative ideals, and has found a home with Congressman Rand Paul, Congressman Steve King,
and many Tea Party idealists (Seabrook, NPR). Friedrich Hayek s theories are based more on the
macro level than Ayn Rand s. Hayek

Immature Satire
I always seem to fall for boys named after angels and saints. You were one of the best and worst things
to ever happen to me. I remember being an infant of a third grader when you first sat next to me in
class. I ate peanut butter every day at snack time and one day you told me you were allergic when my
meek hand offered some to you in the back row of the Catholic school classroom, but you avoided
telling me sooner because you saw the joy it brought to my juvenile face. I catch myself laughing at
the immature jokes of the boys who sit next to me and sometimes think that you would say something
like that. You are still rather immature it seems. Very immature indeed.

Fairies In A Midsummer s Night Dream
In A Midsummer s Night Dream by William Shakespeare, the struggle of balance and accord is
predominant, in many of the characters story. The mortal world and the fairy world have crossed over
many times in this play, and throughout their interactions, there has been forces of who is superior and
who is the weaker of the two. The Athenian lovers are just like any modern couples, and they have
fights or arguments at times, for example, both Lysander and Demetrius try to show their authority
and powers in their respective relationships. Puck is a mischievous fairy that tries to mess with the
mortals lives in any way possible. These interactions show to the mortals what the possibilities the
fairies have at their use, or to show that mortals are weaker than the fairies. The struggle of balance
and accord can be seen more clearly through the interactions of the fairy world and the ... Show more

Puck s mistake, he has made both Demetrius and Lysander fall in love with Helena. This can be seen

Of Hospitality By Jacques Derrida
Jacques Derrida created controversy and theories that have influenced philosophy, literature,
linguistics, anthropology and a number of other fields. The scope of his work is so large that some
argue it unreasonable to accept his word as legitimate in0 certain fields. In Of Hospitality, Derrida
describes and brings to the forefront one of the primary issues of cosmopolitan ethics; what is the
appropriate approach to extending and receiving hospitality and what are the implications of such
action? Through an intensive understanding of this work, Derrida eventually reaches the conclusion
that the balance between being absolutely hospitable and conditionally hospitable is completely
necessary. Is it more just and more loving to question or not to question? (Of Hospitality, 29). Each
has the ability to corrupt the other but both are needed in order for hospitality and, in general, socially
responsible behavior.
Why this is important
Hospitality cannot be practically applied without the host establishing some set of limits, but at the
exact time these limits are created, the visitor/guest is put into a position of wanting in freedom. This
is the aporia that Derrida is concerned with. According to Niall Lucy in A Derrida Dictionary; Aporia
is a Greek term denoting a logical contradiction. The word choice here is interesting because
contradiction implies an issue that is resolvable in a certain light as well as being a foundation on
which to build. As Derrida puts

My Thoughts About Worldviews Essay
A worldview, in my opinion, is the way you look at the world and how you see God; a worldview is a
set of beliefs that directs the way you act. To determine your worldview, you must ask yourself a few
questions. Some of these questions include: Who is God? Where did I come from? Why do I exist?
What is my purpose in life? Answers in Genesis defines a worldview as the overall perspective from
which one sees and interprets the world. A worldview is a collection of beliefs about life and the
universe held by an individual or a group. [1] To make this definition easier to understand, I ll use an
analogy. A worldview is like a pair of glasses. If you get the right prescription, you ll be able to see

They believe that Allah is god and that Muhammad is his messenger. They do not think Allah is a
knowable god and they do not believe in the Trinity. They do not believe in heaven but they believe in
a paradise and to go there you must do a certain amount of good deeds. Also, Muslims must complete
some tasks, often called pillars. These pillars include: confession, prayer, fasting, almsgiving,
pilgrimage, and in some cases, jihad. Like Christians, Muslims have a book of scripture, called the
Qur an, written by Muhammad. Islam philosophy also believes in the supernatural because of Allah.
Muslim philosophers, and some Christian philosophers, use the Kalam Cosmological Argument for
the existence of God. Although Muslims do believe in miracles, Muhammad never performed any.
This created some doubts but they still had faith in Muhammad. Some great Islamic philosophers are
Ahmad and Yusif Ali Hammuda Abdalat. Like Christians, Muslims believe in moral absolutes.
However, these absolutes come from Muhammad and the Qur an (or Hadith), rather than Allah,
because Muslims believe that Allah cannot be known. To help Muslims follow moral obligations, they
follow the Five Pillars. Unlike Christians, Muslims are motivated to do good because of their fear of
judgement. Another similarity with Christians and Muslims is the belief that a god created the earth
with order, design, and purpose. Sometimes, there can be

Ethanol Interactions with Receptors
Introduction
Ethanol, the alcohol found in alcoholic beverages, has a wide range of effects. Unlike many drugs,
ethanol does not have a specific area of the brain in which it exerts its effects. For this reason, ethanol
has a large diversity of symptoms and varying effects among individuals. In general, it binds with and
alters the function of voltage gated ion channels. Typically ethanol inhibits neurons directly or
stimulates the release of inhibitor neurotransmitters. Ethanol may have undesirable side effects such as
deficits in cognitive ability and long term brain damaged if used frequently.
Ethanol Interactions with Receptors
Ethanol interacts with the several neurochemical systems that play a role in the effects and reinforcing
factors during consumption. It is a depressant that interacts with ion gated channels in a way that
generally decreases brain activity. These interactions either facilitate the channel, opening mostly Cl ,
but also facilitate 5 HT3 receptors that are NA+ and K+ channels, or the interactions inhibit the
opening of channels usually NA+, CA+, and K+. Some of the receptors that it affects include,
GABAA, GABAB, NMDA, serotonin, and Dopamine. The GABAergic systems play a major role in
the reinforcing factors of alcohol consumption. Ethanol tends to enhance GABA activity, most likely
by increasing GABA release from the neurons. However, the mechanism is not the same for every
GABA receptor, and the exact mechanism may be difficult to determine

Alice In Wonderland Loss Of Identity
When one s identity is lost, the happiest place is one of which is the most familiar to us. In Lewis
Carroll s Alice in Wonderland, Alice is having a history lesson before she decides to follow a rabbit
down a rabbit hole. Inside the rabbit hole, Alice is unable to sustain a sense of herself (insecurity)
which contributes to the reader seeing her lost of object of desire (objet petit a) in the form of images
standing in for the womb (female imagery). As a result, Alice goes through regression, which is a
return to previous psychological state. Carroll uses the rabbit hole scene to show Alice regressing as
she searches for her identity within society, ultimately suggesting, one desires to escape rather than

Comparison Of Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory
Everyone grows up with their favorite childhood movies. Whether born in the 1970s or the 2000s, you
were able to enjoy Roald Dahl s, Charlie in the Chocolate Factory. Dahl originally wrote the book in
1964, which sold over twenty million copies worldwide. With such huge success with his book he
wrote the 1971 screenplay as well. The 1971 screenplay was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,
as it focused more on the Charlie s life than Willy Wonka, but the film used Willy Wonka for the title
because Quaker Oats was financing the movie and wanted to release their Wonka bars at the same
time as the movie (Paur). Shortly after the 1971 film was released, Dahl revised his book and re

to Act. When Louis (Head Penguin) acknowledged there was legitimacy to Fred s worries about their

exhibited by Alice and Buddy. Mate shows his comprehension of youth control to realize change by
enabling the individuals who did not have the immediate energy to achieve change. In building up the
arrangement, Buddy s significant part in the arrangement was to converse with the kindergarten
instructor. This prompted the kindergarten educator to tell the understudies stories of courageous

Rhetorical Pathos In Never Cry Wolf By Farley Mowat
What do you think of wolves? Do you think they re blood thirsty killers, or do you think they are
rather friendly animals? In the book, Never Cry Wolf, (1963) the author, Farley Mowat, writes about
his excursion to the sub arctic Barren Lands of Canada to study how wolves act and how the
community is being affected by the wolves. The people of Churchill lead Mowat to believe the wolves
are something that they aren t, which is a blood thirsty killer. Mowat then uses the rhetorical strategy
Pathos throughout the book to show you how he personifies the wolves and how fear is all in our
minds. Pathos represents an appeal to the emotions of the audience. Mowat uses this rhetorical
strategy to get us to feel the emotions that he felt. When arriving in Churchill, Mowat says that he
discovered that although wolves reputedly devour several people in the Arctic Zone every year, they
will always refrain from attacking a pregnant eskimo (24). In Chapter 4 When is a Wolf Not a Wolf?,
Mowat shares his fear. He hears howling in the distance and quickly hides saying I found myself
wishing I were a pregnant eskimo (42). Although this is funny, it made me feel fear for Mowat
because of Churchill s rumors that you would be eaten. It turns out the howling was just huskies which
led Mowat to the realization that maybe everything that the people said isn t true. A couple chapters
later in Chapter 7 The Watcher Watched, Mowat learned that maybe wolves aren t savage killers and
maybe just the opposite of that. This lesson was learned when Mowat was out searching for the
wolves and they were behind him the whole time. A struck of shock lit Mowat up when he realized
that the wolves had any chance to attack him and they didn t, instead they sat quietly and observed
Mowat. This sent fear through me because it led Mowat to new ideas which means he s going to put
more trust into the wolves and go right into it with an open mind. From Chapter 7 on, the whole
perspective changes. Personification is the attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to
something nonhuman, or the representation of an abstract quality in human form. To get you attached
to the wolves, Mowat personifies them. This mostly starts in Chapter 9

Training Battle Technique
Imagine a samurai and a knight face to face ready to fight. Even though their training battle technique,
and their codes of honor were very similar, the knights have more advantages in a battle against a
samurai. In a one on one battle, the advantage would be to the knight and this can be seen in their
training, weapons and armor, also their beliefs. One important way that knights have an advantage is
in their training. In document C2 adapted by the PBS Series Warrior Challenge it states, ... sent to
serve as a page (youth training to be a knight)... This included practice with...wooden swords. He
would also refine his horse riding skills...Squires would continue with weapons training...a squire
gained approval... to become a knight around the age of twenty one. This goes to show that to become
a knight you started young so they would be training their whole life. So only the best would go out
into battle. They had different ranks that pushed them to be proficient to move up a level so knights
had to master all skills which gives them the advantage of knowing exactly how to use the sword and
to control the horse. Another piece of evidence that supports the claim is in document C1, again ...

When it comes to a decision, there is only the quick choice of death...This is the heart of the Way of

in document F by Christine de Pizan it states ...not certain that an oath made to save one s life should
be kept...even worse to put yourself in a position to be killed. A knight should not feel bound by such
an oath, for it is not valid...if he avoids his own death. Knights did not view death the same giving

How Does Emerson Characterize The Scholar
Emerson elaborates upon the necessity of the scholar by describing his pivotal role in society. He first
describes the responsibilities of the scholar as to cheer, to raise, and to guide men by showing them
facts amid appearances. The description introduces the idea that the world brims with illusions
intended to prey upon the weakness of the common man, and that the scholar must help him navigate
this labyrinth of truths and inaccuracies. Furthermore, Emerson elucidates that the scholar s
responsibility encompasses interpreting the world around him by personifying Reason as an entity that
pronounces on the passing men and events of today, and tasking the scholar with interpreting her
observations. Emerson goes on to characterize the scholar

The Daunting Task of Buying a Computer
Buying a computer can be a daunting task fraught with many choices, depending on your needs. The
process can be simplified by determining what your primary use for the computer will be and picking
specific components geared towards your use. The main components that one must select from is the
CPU, Video Card, Hard Drive, and Memory or RAM as it s known in the Tech world. The CPU is an
acronym for the Central Processing Unit . The CPU is the brains of the computer, where all the
calculations take place. The faster the CPU, the faster your computer will run, calculating intensive
tasks. A good place to start researching for CPU s is on the internet at http://www.cpubenchmark.net/.
One glance at the website will show the multitude of CPU s available. In fact, this website ranks over
1,200 processors against each other based on based on 8 different tests (PassMark Software), and lists
them in a chart based on how they do on all the tests combined. When deciding on the CPU, one must
decide if they want the traditional Intel chip, whose chips have been integrated into IBM compatible
machines since the start of the personal computing era, or if the want an AMD chip, which is a
younger company that makes a comparable product at a cheaper price. One must also look at the
overall speed of the CPU, as this determines how fast it operates. A huge difference in the CPU is if it
is a Single Core, Dual Core, or a Quad Core. Simply put, a Dual Core processor, can process

Medea Internal Conflict Essay
In Medea, by Euripides, conflicts play a major role in the creation of the play. Some examples of these
conflicts are with Medea and Jason, Medea and herself, and Medea and Creon. Medea is shown to be
a strong, independent woman who does what she wants as well as doesn t let anything stand in her
way. She shares qualities of a traditional male at the time, and the qualities of a traditional female.
Euripides makes this clear in the play by creating conflicts to prove women can be a powerful
character and that the play in general challenges the idea of misogyny.
Internal conflicts within Medea shed light on her true character and her difficulties to make decisions.
Throughout the play, there are many cases of Medea contemplating her ... Show more content on

It shows how she does have a heart and a conscience, which was something readers weren t too sure
about prior to this internal conflict, since she killed her brother without any issues. Euripides makes it
obvious that she is strong, and headstrong about her decision to destroy Jason.
Medea s conflict with Jason proves to be the main conflict in the play, which really sheds light into the
fact that Euripides created this play to challenge the notion of feminism. After Jason s betrayal, Medea
decides to take control. It is evident in the way she manipulates other characters within the play, and
how she handles situations she is in, that she is quite intelligent. Her motivation and will to
accomplish her own goals, portrays Medea as the complete opposite of a typical patriarchal woman
who embodies the norms of patriarchy in Greek society. In the play, Jason says, I married you, chose
hatred and murder for my wife no woman, but a tiger... (1. 1343 44) This quote shows the misogyny
with Jason, because he is saying that him and the society have made Medea this way. But maybe
Medea started acting
McBane 3 this way because of how Jason lacked respect for her and drove her to do the horrendous
actions. Medea lashing out on Jason further proves the fact that she is her own woman, and becomes
the first symbol of feminism in the Greek culture. Another example of Medea s

founder of Detroit, Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, a name that makes reference to
the little French town of Cadillac situated in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region. Historically
Cadillac is a bastide founded in 1280 by the Edward I, King of England for the defense of Bordeaux.
In 1315 the bastide surrounds itself with a defensive wall form which we still can see 2 gates, 3 towers

Proposed Stand Alone Store Near The Auburn Market
The recommendation is for Shuzworld to build the proposed stand alone store near the Auburn market.
As we will get into the details of this decision, it is important to understand the outcome and
recommendation early in case there are key questions to answer during the presentation. A decision
tree was used to analyze all of the data provided by Gloria Rodriguez. The results show that
Shuzworld should build a stand alone store in Auburn. The decision tree analysis has broken down the
expected monetary value (EMV) for each alternative.
In the decision tree, the squares represent decision nodes. A decision node is where the decision maker
will need to chose between one or the other option presented. The decision maker will need to
evaluate the impacts and expected results of each option in order to intelligently choose the best
strategy. The other symbol in the decision tree is a circle. A circle represents a state of nature, which is
an occurrence where the decision maker has little or no control. (Heizer Render, 2001, p. 669)
The decision tree approach is the best method because of the multiple sequential decisions and
dependency of outcome between the decisions. Decision trees are best when there are two or more
sequential decisions. A decision tree should be structured to define the problem, write the decisions,
assign respective probabilities to each states of nature, and estimate the payoffs for each likely
combination. The end result is to solve for the expected

Australopithecus Sediba
In a 2010 article in Science , Dr. Berger and a team of experts described the fossils of a boy and a
woman, who were discovered near Johannesburg. The bones were a surprise because they displayed a
mixture of primitive and modern human attributes, therefore qualifying as a distinct species. They
have been named Australopithecus sediba, and lived about 2 million years ago.
These individuals travelled upright on long legs, with human shaped hips and pelvis, but still climbed
through trees on ape like arms. They had the small teeth and more modern face of Homo genus that
includes modern humans, but the relatively primitive feet and tiny brain of Australopithecus. Its
primitive anatomy included a brain the size of an average orange. Other Australopithecines and early
species of Homo, like H. naledi, were its contemporaries. Dr. Berger indicated that the species evolved
near or at the root of the Homo genus, about 2.5 million to 2.8 million years old. Geologists think the
cave in which they were located is no older than three million years.
The Australopithecines in general, succeeded for millions of years in Africa. Then new experimental

Roles Of Men And Women
When you think of the roles for men and women in a relationship, what do you think of? Do you see
both men and women working full time jobs or do you only see the man working and the wife staying
at home? Roles are continuing to change in many ways. People can choose to either get married young
or wait until they are older. We get this picture in our head of how our love lives are supposed to be
from the media. Some people consider their jobs to be just as important as their relationships.
Expectations of relationship roles of men and women have changed greatly from in the past. Katherine
Davis stated, Wilson and I are fortunate to have a relationship that allows us to be as committed to our
professions as we are to each other (Davis 257). I believe that is the way it is now in the world, both
the men and women focusing on their careers. In the past, men were expected to go to work and
provide for their families. The women were expected to stay home and take care of the house and the
children if they had any. Some people take the same route that Katherine Davis took. She was not
necessarily looking for love and she was focused on her career. She then met her fiancé at her summer
internship. Back in the day, women were expected to find husbands and have kids as soon as possible.
They were unable to just sit around and wait while being occupied by their jobs. Love can be
perceived in many different ways. Part of the reason for that is the way the media has changed our

Essay about Reasons behind Suicidal Terrorist Attacks
Emile Durkheim s theory of suicide:
Any form of public death be it an execution, a disaster, a brutal murder, or a suicide sends shockwaves

Suicide bombing, or suicidal terror, is an effective means of achieving political and psychological
devastation to societies and cultures the world over. This violent tactic is the weapon of choice for
Islamic militants seeking to undermine the American dominance in the 21st century. Obviously, the

Fueled by the prospect of becoming heroes and lacking the maturity to understand the dangers they
are seeing, young Palestinians are easily provoked to enter into harms way. The children on the front
lines of this uprising are not accidental. The Palestinian Authority (PA) has intentionally provoked
children to drop their toys and pick up stones against the occupying forces of Israel. A number of
Palestinian teenagers, some as young as 13 and 14 have gone on suicide missions because the societal
conditioning has deceived children into believing that combat and a heroic Death for Allah are
expected of them. The subject matter of the PA national curriculum and state owned media coach the
children into armed conflict. The objective; to irrevocably plant seeds of hatred into entire generations.
The children are almost conditioned to take up collective behavior that conforms to violent ideological
social movements. For many in the Palestinian society the one goal in life is death. The PA leadership
consistently accuses Israel of violating human rights for the killing of innocent children while they are
fully responsible for placing the children in the heat of the battle. This is a cynical attempt to
undermine human rights tensions.

The parents reported that their child s pre and post natal development was normal without illness or
injury. However, as an infant/toddler, he had been difficult to soothe when upset and demanded
constant attention which his parents found difficult to manage.
Twelve months before attending the agency the client began to demonstrate increasing levels of
anxiety. This anxiety commenced with significant difficulties being separated from his mother or
father at home, to go to school, stay with family and play with friends. The parents said the client s
behaviours included clinging on to them and chasing after them as they were leaving the house or
school. He would also check their location in the house to confirm that they were still there. On
occasion his behaviour deteriorated into tantrums, although this only happened at home. The parents
also expressed concern that the boy s teacher noticed he was refusing to eat at school. The parents also
reported their child was unable to get to sleep without their presence. He would awaken with
nightmares at least three times a week saying he was frightened something bad was happening to
them. The parents stated that it was becoming increasingly difficult for them to manage their son s
behaviour.
The client s parents reported that there was no known family history of anxiety and depression on

A Rainbow Comes After The Storm Short Story
A Rainbow Comes After the Storm
Newaygo, Michigan, a small, little, suburban town north of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Their tubing and
rafting was a hotspot for families to spend quality time together. I was part of one of them. I was filled
with excitement. While we were waiting in line, we were cracking jokes and having a good time.
Group number 43, head your way to the pink bus! the announcer called. My family of 7 got onto the
bus. It was my uncle, my aunt, my 6 year old cousin, Avi, My 11 year old cousin, Preet, my parents

the radio, Don t be frightened, we are almost there! Just a few more of these sharp turns and you ll be

The bridge, the bridge, the bridge. I kept on repeating that in my head so I would not forget. Suddenly,
everyone started clapping. It was finally time to get off. Preet and I rushed to get the tubes for
everyone in our family, and some twine to attach it. We were filled with excitement. Time flew by, and
we were finally on the dock. We got our tubes tied up, and went into the water. The sun was shining
through the dancing, tall, trees and everyone was smiling. Groups started to pass us by, to the point we
were isolated. We couldn t see anyone else in the vast river. There was no possible way to get of

property. I was slightly worried about this.
Mommy, is that a sea monster? My cousin, Avi questioned. Then all of a sudden there was a BOOM!
A tree log stuck us. This tree log was gigantic; it looked like it weighed a million pounds. It was so big
that we couldn t get around it. We couldn t use it to hold onto as it was all mushy and wet. I thought to

The Impact Of Globalisation And Globalization

Particularly English words and slang became very prominent around the world and can be found in
nearly every home or store from Japan to Spain. The English language has also been affected and
influenced by foreign speech. The Oxford English Dictionary has fairly recently added words such as
Izakaya (a type of Japanese bar) or shvitz (sauna or steam bath) (Arau, 2016), however, languages
even centuries ago assimilated and exchanged words from different cultures. To see the consequences
of prolonged linguistic contact we can observe the Latin American people who have travelled and
settled in North America. Hispanic Americans who speak both English and Spanish welded the
languages lexical and grammatical items to create a new urban dialect Spanglish . This can be seen in
many minority communities since common language is a tool of sharing a way of life by social
groups, this way they feel connected and unique in their environment where not many other people

Carraway observes his odd behaviors and soon discovers of the sparkling love within these two. He

The Use Of Sexual Gratification On College Campuses
Hookups are a type of brief sexual relationship that typically occur on only one occasion between two
people who are usually strangers or have briefly become acquainted (Paul, McManus Hayes, 2000).
Hooking up may be considered to be the contemporary term for the older phrase one night stand
which also implies a no strings attached interlude. In this sort of association, sexual gratification can
be the primary goal, with companionship being a distant consideration. This variety of alliance can
certainly involve both heterosexual and homosexual couples and can be facilitated through friends or
like minded individuals. According to one study, this casual and non committal sexual encounter
based form of interaction now finds itself as the predominating heterosexual relationship on college
campuses (Stinson, 2010). It may be easy to see why this is the case as the lifestyles of students are
busy ones and often little time is available to devote to what is necessary to maintain a more serious
involvement. Friends with Benefits Friends with benefits relationships are generally considered to be a
relationship that occurs between friends of the opposite sex who participate in sexual practices but
view their bond as being non romantic (Hughes, Morrison, Asada, 2007). However, there is no reason
to believe that this type of strictly platonic relationship cannot have its equivalent parallel with
members of the same sex. There are advantages to this type of arrangement that are

Essay on Fight Club and Our Consumer Identity
Fight Club and Our Consumer Identity
The narrator in the film Fight Club is questioned about his devastated condo and declares, That condo
was my life, okay? I loved every stick of furniture in that place. That was not just a bunch of stuff that
got destroyed, that was me! This attitude of defining self identity through a consumer culture has
become institutionalized in the American society. The film Fight Club addresses the excessive
consumerism as a sign of emotional emptiness and as a form of self distinction. While the title
suggests that it is just another cliché action movie, it is not so shallow or narrowly focused. It instead
provides the viewer with a provocative view on American society and it raises valid questions about ...

Together, they end up creating the underground fight club that becomes wildly popular with blue
collar workers. Shirt less men beat each other into bloody messes every Saturday night in the
basement of a bar. As the movie progresses, this underground club becomes more of a renegade
resistance group that causes mayhem to corporate America. While Tyler is leading his cult to more
mischief and mayhem, Jack thinks it has gotten out of hand. Fight club has spread across the country
and Tyler s next mission is to blow up all the major credit companies to erase everyone s credit thus
leveling the economic playing field. Jack, in an attempt to stop him, chases Tyler around the country
but it always appears that he has just missed Tyler. Jack slowly comes to the conclusion that he
himself and Tyler are the same person. While Jack thought he was sleeping, in reality his
schizophrenic other half was working Tyler s jobs, making soap and trying to blow Americas
materialistic views to pieces. Jack is able to destroy his alter ego by over coming Tyler s influence and
shooting himself through the cheek; however, he is not able to stop Tyler s explosions. The last scene
shows the buildings collapsing while Jack and Marla are kissing.
Fight Club challenges the typical American consumer identity by creating two contradicting
characters. Jack starts out as a consumer defining his life by possessions, while Tyler lives his life on
his own terms. One of the better

Is Mormonism Really A Cult
Mormonism Is it really a cult?
Many people see The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, also known as LDS or Mormonism,
as a cult. But are they really a cult? Again others see them as a valid denomination of Christianity.
Which of these is more correct?
A great deal of people consider Mormonism to be a cult. They think that they have strange customs,
such as not eating fruit. It is true that Mormonism is different in many ways from most Christianity,
but does that really make it a cult? To quote the textbook: A cult represents a distinct break from other
traditions . So by that definition, all religion is cultist in nature. One major difference between
Mormonism and most Christianity is Baptism of the Dead. Mormons believe that

Essay How to Tame a Wild Tongue
Natalie Gonzalez 3/14/2007 Gloria Anzaldua, author of the article How to tame a Wild Tongue ,
expresses very strong views on how she feels her native Chicano Spanish language needs to be
preserved in order to maintain cultural unity when used as a private form of communication. Her
statement, for a people who cannot identify with either standard (formal, Castilian) Spanish, nor
standard English, what recourse is left to them but to create their own language? suggests that despite
the societal pressures of needing to learn more formal and ‘properly accepted English and Spanish,
the very nature of the Chicano language is a unique creation of acceptance, through language within
the Mexican culture. She is opposed to assimilation on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The English language is universal. It has very set rules, forms and functions. The Chicano language at
best represents a personal story, a private communication that is not understandable or even acceptable
by non chicanos. By contrast, Richard Rodriquez, in his article entitled Aria , strongly believes in
surrendering to learning the proper English language, despite how strongly he feels his native tongue
is a private language that once functioned to unite his family. Rodriguez creates a division of a public
and a private discourse. He feels that he has a ‘right to learn the public language of los gringos . He
creates a visual clash of two worlds: a public world as represented by school and the need to learn
English; and a private world as represented by his family and the use of Spanish within the home. He
feels that in order to adapt and create assimilation that he needs to abandon the comfort of using
Spanish to communicate and force himself to learn English – even if it meant alienating his family
members. He does not believe as Anzaluda does that you have to create your own language if you
cannot identify with more formal forms of acceptance. Although he admits it is heartbreaking to have
shared fewer words with his parents because of the language barrier, he thinks his choice in learning
and practicing English was necessary. In fact, the more he learned

Running head: ETHICAL DILEMMA: BRAIN DEATH
Ethical Dilemma: Brain Death
Mike Baker
University of Phoenix
Introduction
There has been an increase in the number of organs donated for transplantation since the development
and acceptance of brain death. (Guidelines for the determination of death, 1981) The strict rules
surrounding the diagnosis and the ability to develop individualized Policy and Procedures in the
determination of brain death has removed the fear of law suite surrounding this definition of death.
(Guidelines for the determination of death, 1981)
Old vs. New
Until brain death was introduced the diagnosis of death was the lack of cardiac function. Without a
heart beat blood did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case AMH has requested the SWOB to responded and recover organs for transplant. Once the
brain death diagnosis is made the attending doctor does not have any more contact with the patient.
This prevents the conflict of interest question from being raised.
The responding organ bank, as well as the centers that receive the organs for transplant, provide on
call doctors to assist in the recovery process. The hospital however maintains control of the patient.
This chain of command is for the protection of all involved in the recovery and transplant process.
In this situation the organ bank was challenging the diagnosis of brain death made by a member of the
professional staff of AMH. Not only was there a challenge but it was being made by some one other
then a doctor. Only a doctor can pronounce a patient dead. So here was another dilemma in that there
was a challenge to the doctor s diagnosis being made by a nurse. This in it self goes against the State
Nursing Rules for licensure. Nurses are not allowed to diagnosis nor practice medicine.
The transplant coordinator nurse needed the support of the organ bank s medical staff. The organ bank
s medical staff was not on scene and thus had to take the word of the transplant coordinator.
In this case the transplant coordinator could have just continued with the recovery and not said
anything. The coordinator could have

Cyber Bullying And Its Effects On Society Essay
Cyber bullying
The saying, if sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me was ever true, it
sure isn t true today (Alexander, 2011). The survey of 9 years olds in 35 countries found that New
Zealand is the one most second highest rate of school bullying. (nzherald, 2012). Especially in this
case parents really need to take a stand against bullying to help prevent it and to stop it. We as parents

encourages poor behaviour many harshly affect the victim and makes the internet an unsafe
environment for children.
Children should be able to live a life free from bullying and harassment and it is time that we all took
a stand against this (Katherine,2015). Of course cyber bullying has showed itself in popular
networking sites such as twitter, Facebook and Tumblr. Those websites are meant to be socializing
between friends and family. Cyber bullying is a big concern in New Zealand society. How are children

What Is The Domino Theory Related To The Vietnam War During World War II there was a total of about 40 days of combat in four years, whereas during the Vietnam War there were 240 days of combat in one year. The Vietnam War was both devastating and deceiving. America was not able to successfully save South Vietnam from communist rule, and yet they still suffered a great amount of loss. The Vietnam War presented a plethora of issue to the United States and Southeast Asia. The United States suffered a lot of casualties and the U.S. lost a lot of money. Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos also suffered many casualties and Cambodia and Laos were no longer peaceful. The war was deceiving because the United States government was not completely honest about secret attacks on Laos and Cambodia. The Vietnam War should not have happened because it affected citizens in America, it brought neutral countries into a war, and all of the countries involved suffered tremendous ... President Dwight Eisenhower said, You have a row of dominoes set up; you knock over the first one, and what will happen to the last one is that it will go over very quickly, which supports that he firmly believed in this theory. Because of the domino theory, the United States felt it was their duty to stop the spread of communism in Asia. So, the United States did have good intentions in the Vietnam War, but in the end, the goal of protecting South Vietnam was not successful. The United States, after many years of fighting, started to withdraw troops from Vietnam in June of 1969. Finally, on January 27, 1973, the United States fully withdrew from the Vietnam War. Even though the United States withdrew before the end of the war, the damage was already gone. During my time as Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET), I was exposed to best manufacturing practices in the automotive industry and provided with an opportunity to learn as well as implement engineering principles to various projects. My first assignment was to Stabilise Production and Delivery of Tata Super Ace vehicle , where I was made in charge of a production shift and had to supervise 18 workers. This assignment provided me with an opportunity to interact with workers and manage them. I prepared a Skill Matrix Chart of these workers which helped me identify their skills and expertise, and areas for improvement. Hence by assigning right person to do the right job and exposing them to necessary training programs, I was able to substantially increase their workmanship skills. The improvement in their skills had positive impact on their working and resulted into not only increasing the productivity by 28% but also drastically increasing the build quality of the vehicles. My second project was Mapping production capacities of Suppliers at Tata Motors Vendor park . As our plant was targeting to reach production of 1250 vehicles per day, we had to map out existing capacities of the 65 odd suppliers located at our vendor, from whom we sourced 80% of our components. So model minority were described Asian Americans as a hard working, Well educated, successfully minority race. But otherwise it s not the truly idea to believe in positive model minority because sometimes it s also negative. It s happened to most of Asian Americans and they realized that, at the start point it s been 100 percent positive, but when you go along, then it will turn to be negative and sometime it s hurting you. Even know that the result of the American based on an untruth of a model minority, the truth is telling a different story. Consequently Asian Americans are twice as likely to be poor as non Hispanic whites. They also have an incapacity of reading and writing rate that is five times over those non Hispanic. So that, how could they say that Asian Americans are hard working, Well educated, successfully minority race by looking at this situation. It s a stereotyping that hurting people by looking down on the background, but exactly they don t. However, the half truth of the model minority has not entirely gone off the mark. Also, one may just say it is an application in which human apply to solving problems. As the world keep changing, so do technology. Today technology has inspired a lot of change into the way we do things or relate to certain problems. We will all agree that, we cannot talk about technology without mentioning inventions. Most importantly, it is an undeniable fact that, all the sophisticated gadget we see around were invented through the application of science and technology. Some of these gadgets such as cell phones, computers, tablets, etc. have indeed made life so easy to operate and also help in creating non existing jobs. Burkhardt, M. E., Brass, D. J. • 10. The Stranger After only a few days of trial, the jury in The Stranger declares that the main character, Meursault, is to be executed by guillotine in the town square. The trial and its verdict are one of the important parts of the novel, as Albert Camus uses them as a metaphor to summarize the two main tenets of absurdism. Camus uses the trial and persecution of Meursault to express his belief that the justice system is flawed because of his absurdist ideals that truth does not exist, and human life is precious. In order to reform the justice system, Albert Camus believes that capital punishment needs to be abolished. The trial portrays the absurdist ideal that absolute truth does not exist. This ideal destroys the very purpose of the trial, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All the facts the prosecutor presents are valid and true, though unrelated to his case. From the prosecutor s point of view, Meursault is a monster, a man without morals (96). Even Meursault agrees that what he was saying was plausible (99). The reader, who knows all of Meursault s thoughts, knows how absurd the prosecution s accusations are. Throughout the trial, Camus explains that perception means everything, and there is no absolute truth. The conviction of Meursault represents another main point of absurdism, that life is precious. It only takes forty five minutes for an entire jury to unanimously decide to send Meursault to the guillotine, which is unreasonable. Camus is trying to point this out as one of society s wrongdoings. The prosecutor s argument had appealed to the jury s emotions and society s standards rather than reason. If the jury had not felt the emotions that were supposed to influence their decision, the prosecutor s argument would have seemed completely irrational. In a rational world, Meursault s emotions regarding his mother or her funeral would not have influenced his verdict. Meursault commits a crime against an Arab, while Raymond, who had also done so earlier in the book, did not get into any trouble. He would still be found guilty, but only for the crime he committed. This would have definitely lightened his sentence; however, Meursault is sentenced to death. Camus proves the court s hypocrisy and shows how human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Examples Of Medical Discourse Medical Discourse An example of a major discourse operating in the contemporary world is a medical discourse. Frow states that discourse is a mode of organization of knowledge in relation to material institutions (2005, pg. 93); some of these institutions include hospitals, government health care, and the World Health Organization. Constructs the topic: According to Hall, discourse is the production of knowledge through language (1997, pg. 44) and it is through discourse that the topic is constructed. In a hospital, when doctors or nurses are discussing patients, the language would usually be technical and clinical, perhaps using abbreviations and slang, and that is what makes sense in the context of that conversation. However, if a doctor were to be talking to the patient instead, the language would still be quite scientific but the doctor would likely adjust what they re saying so the patient can understand them better. Both of these are customary ways of communicating within the medical discourse and are accepted because of their individual contexts; as Frow put it, certain regimes of treatment...are legitimized and prevail against others (2005, pg. 12). However, if a patient went to the hospital and told the doctor they were getting migraines because of a blockage in their third eye chakra the doctor would assert that that wasn t the case and would then ascribe the patient s symptoms to a legitimate illness. The fact that the patient thought their illness was related to their chakras would make sense if they had gone to a naturopath, but in the context of modern medicine and the medical discourse this seems ... • 12. Economic Theories and Policies After World War II Throughout the United States history, especially after World War I, there have been many competing economic theories about government policy. The architects of the most referenced policies tend to be John Maynard Keynes, Friedrich Hayek of the Austrian School of economic thought and Ayn Rand (though it can be argued Rand s ideas are more philosophy than economic theory.) These three theories seem to be always in the forefront of any economic discussions taking place in the United States. Ayn Rand s main belief in the economic system is to have a completely unregulated laissez faire economy. She espoused the need for government to leave the people alone, and let them try to fulfill their own desires. She argues that the government are looters that take with threat of force the earnings of the people and then redistributes the ill gotten capital to moochers , or people who depend on the government for some sort of assistance (Seabrook, NPR). She contends that government interference will cause the producers or capitalist to pack up and leave everyone else behind. She demonstrates her argument through her most well known novels, The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged (Ayn Rand, Wikipedia). Ayn Rand s theory tends to mesh well with libertarian and conservative ideals, and has found a home with Congressman Rand Paul, Congressman Steve King, and many Tea Party idealists (Seabrook, NPR). • 15. Of Hospitality By Jacques Derrida Jacques Derrida created controversy and theories that have influenced philosophy, literature, linguistics, anthropology and a number of other fields. The scope of his work is so large that some argue it unreasonable to accept his word as legitimate in0 certain fields. In Of Hospitality, Derrida describes and brings to the forefront one of the primary issues of cosmopolitan ethics; what is the appropriate approach to extending and receiving hospitality and what are the implications of such action? Through an intensive understanding of this work, Derrida eventually reaches the conclusion that the balance between being absolutely hospitable and conditionally hospitable is completely necessary. Is it more just and more loving to question or not to question? (Of Hospitality, 29). Each has the ability to corrupt the other but both are needed in order for hospitality and, in general, socially responsible behavior. Why this is important Hospitality cannot be practically applied without the host establishing some set of limits, but at the exact time these limits are created, the visitor/guest is put into a position of wanting in freedom. This is the aporia that Derrida is concerned with. According to Niall Lucy in A Derrida Dictionary; Aporia is a Greek term denoting a logical contradiction. The word choice here is interesting because contradiction implies an issue that is resolvable in a certain light as well as being a foundation on which to build. As Derrida puts ... To determine your worldview, you must ask yourself a few questions. Some of these questions include: Who is God? Where did I come from? Why do I exist? What is my purpose in life? Answers in Genesis defines a worldview as the overall perspective from which one sees and interprets the world. A worldview is a collection of beliefs about life and the universe held by an individual or a group. [1] To make this definition easier to understand, I ll use an analogy. These pillars include: confession, prayer, fasting, almsgiving, pilgrimage, and in some cases, jihad. Like Christians, Muslims have a book of scripture, called the Qur an, written by Muhammad. Islam philosophy also believes in the supernatural because of Allah. Muslim philosophers, and some Christian philosophers, use the Kalam Cosmological Argument for the existence of God. • 17. Ethanol Interactions with Receptors Introduction Ethanol, the alcohol found in alcoholic beverages, has a wide range of effects. Unlike many drugs, ethanol does not have a specific area of the brain in which it exerts its effects. For this reason, ethanol has a large diversity of symptoms and varying effects among individuals. In general, it binds with and alters the function of voltage gated ion channels. Typically ethanol inhibits neurons directly or stimulates the release of inhibitor neurotransmitters. Ethanol may have undesirable side effects such as deficits in cognitive ability and long term brain damaged if used frequently. Ethanol Interactions with Receptors Ethanol interacts with the several neurochemical systems that play a role in the effects and reinforcing factors during consumption. It is a depressant that interacts with ion gated channels in a way that generally decreases brain activity. These interactions either facilitate the channel, opening mostly Cl , but also facilitate 5 HT3 receptors that are NA+ and K+ channels, or the interactions inhibit the opening of channels usually NA+, CA+, and K+. Some of the receptors that it affects include, GABAA, GABAB, NMDA, serotonin, and Dopamine. The GABAergic systems play a major role in the reinforcing factors of alcohol consumption. Ethanol tends to enhance GABA activity, most likely by increasing GABA release from the neurons. However, the mechanism is not the same for every GABA receptor, and the exact mechanism may be difficult to determine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Rhetorical Pathos In Never Cry Wolf By Farley Mowat What do you think of wolves? Do you think they re blood thirsty killers, or do you think they are rather friendly animals? In the book, Never Cry Wolf, (1963) the author, Farley Mowat, writes about his excursion to the sub arctic Barren Lands of Canada to study how wolves act and how the community is being affected by the wolves. The people of Churchill lead Mowat to believe the wolves are something that they aren t, which is a blood thirsty killer. Mowat then uses the rhetorical strategy Pathos throughout the book to show you how he personifies the wolves and how fear is all in our minds. Pathos represents an appeal to the emotions of the audience. Mowat uses this rhetorical strategy to get us to feel the emotions that he felt. When arriving in Churchill, Mowat says that he discovered that although wolves reputedly devour several people in the Arctic Zone every year, they will always refrain from attacking a pregnant eskimo (24). In Chapter 4 When is a Wolf Not a Wolf?, Mowat shares his fear. He hears howling in the distance and quickly hides saying I found myself wishing I were a pregnant eskimo (42). Although this is funny, it made me feel fear for Mowat because of Churchill s rumors that you would be eaten. It turns out the howling was just huskies which led Mowat to the realization that maybe everything that the people said isn t true. A couple chapters later in Chapter 7 The Watcher Watched, Mowat learned that maybe wolves aren t savage killers and maybe just the opposite of that. This lesson was learned when Mowat was out searching for the wolves and they were behind him the whole time. A struck of shock lit Mowat up when he realized that the wolves had any chance to attack him and they didn t, instead they sat quietly and observed Mowat. This sent fear through me because it led Mowat to new ideas which means he s going to put more trust into the wolves and go right into it with an open mind. From Chapter 7 on, the whole perspective changes. Personification is the attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something nonhuman, or the representation of an abstract quality in human form. Medea is shown to be a strong, independent woman who does what she wants as well as doesn t let anything stand in her way. She shares qualities of a traditional male at the time, and the qualities of a traditional female. Euripides makes this clear in the play by creating conflicts to prove women can be a powerful character and that the play in general challenges the idea of misogyny. Medea s conflict with Jason proves to be the main conflict in the play, which really sheds light into the fact that Euripides created this play to challenge the notion of feminism. After Jason s betrayal, Medea decides to take control. It is evident in the way she manipulates other characters within the play, and how she handles situations she is in, that she is quite intelligent. Her motivation and will to accomplish her own goals, portrays Medea as the complete opposite of a typical patriarchal woman who embodies the norms of patriarchy in Greek society. I kept on repeating that in my head so I would not forget. Suddenly, everyone started clapping. It was finally time to get off. Preet and I rushed to get the tubes for everyone in our family, and some twine to attach it. We were filled with excitement. Time flew by, and we were finally on the dock. We got our tubes tied up, and went into the water. The sun was shining through the dancing, tall, trees and everyone was smiling. Groups started to pass us by, to the point we were isolated. We couldn t see anyone else in the vast river. There was no possible way to get of neither. The land was all slanted, so you would have to climb, along with that it was all private property. I was slightly worried about this. Mommy, is that a sea monster? My cousin, Avi questioned. Then all of a sudden there was a BOOM! A tree log stuck us. This tree log was gigantic; it looked like it weighed a million pounds. It was so big that we couldn t get around it. We couldn t use it to hold onto as it was all mushy and wet. I thought to myself, should I go under the log, but it s way too low, I would drown. We are going to be stuck here forever. We have nothing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They can be easily spread and shared due to our interconnected world; globalisation allows everyone to connect and find information in a matter of minutes. Societies are no longer secluded and can affect each other with ease. This can end in cultural appropriation or appreciation of the different cultures that surround us. Cultural identity is the feeling of belonging to a certain social group, it is related to nationality, ethnicity, social class, generation, locality and others (Moho, 2005). Particularly English words and slang became very prominent around the world and can be found in nearly every home or store from Japan to Spain. The English language has also been affected and influenced by foreign speech. The Oxford English Dictionary has fairly recently added words such as Izakaya (a type of Japanese bar) or shvitz (sauna or steam bath) (Arau, 2016), however, languages even centuries ago assimilated and exchanged words from different cultures. To see the consequences of prolonged linguistic contact we can observe the Latin American people who have travelled and settled in North America. Hispanic Americans who speak both English and Spanish welded the languages lexical and grammatical items to create a new urban dialect Spanglish . This can be seen in many minority communities since common language is a tool of sharing a way of life by social groups, this way they feel connected and unique in their environment where not many other people share the same experiences and struggles as them. In our globalised world a lot of individuals have internalised more than one culture. Contrary to popular belief, biculturalism and bilingualism do not have to coincide, however, it is highly common for a bicultural person to use more than one language while navigating between their different cultures. Immigrants, refugees, international students and ethnic minorities have knowledge about multiple customs and often adjust their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. The Use Of Sexual Gratification On College Campuses Hookups are a type of brief sexual relationship that typically occur on only one occasion between two people who are usually strangers or have briefly become acquainted (Paul, McManus Hayes, 2000). Hooking up may be considered to be the contemporary term for the older phrase one night stand which also implies a no strings attached interlude. In this sort of association, sexual gratification can be the primary goal, with companionship being a distant consideration. This variety of alliance can certainly involve both heterosexual and homosexual couples and can be facilitated through friends or like minded individuals. According to one study, this casual and non committal sexual encounter based form of interaction now finds itself as the predominating heterosexual relationship on college campuses (Stinson, 2010). It may be easy to see why this is the case as the lifestyles of students are busy ones and often little time is available to devote to what is necessary to maintain a more serious involvement. Friends with Benefits Friends with benefits relationships are generally considered to be a relationship that occurs between friends of the opposite sex who participate in sexual practices but view their bond as being non romantic (Hughes, Morrison, Asada, 2007). However, there is no reason to believe that this type of strictly platonic relationship cannot have its equivalent parallel with members of the same sex. There are advantages to this type of arrangement that are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Fight Club and Our Consumer Identity Fight Club and Our Consumer Identity The narrator in the film Fight Club is questioned about his devastated condo and declares, That condo was my life, okay? I loved every stick of furniture in that place. That was not just a bunch of stuff that got destroyed, that was me! This attitude of defining self identity through a consumer culture has become institutionalized in the American society. The film Fight Club addresses the excessive consumerism as a sign of emotional emptiness and as a form of self distinction. While the title suggests that it is just another cliché action movie, it is not so shallow or narrowly focused. It instead provides the viewer with a provocative view on American society and it raises valid questions about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Together, they end up creating the underground fight club that becomes wildly popular with blue collar workers. Shirt less men beat each other into bloody messes every Saturday night in the basement of a bar. As the movie progresses, this underground club becomes more of a renegade resistance group that causes mayhem to corporate America. While Tyler is leading his cult to more mischief and mayhem, Jack thinks it has gotten out of hand. Fight club has spread across the country and Tyler s next mission is to blow up all the major credit companies to erase everyone s credit thus leveling the economic playing field. Jack, in an attempt to stop him, chases Tyler around the country but it always appears that he has just missed Tyler. Jack slowly comes to the conclusion that he himself and Tyler are the same person. While Jack thought he was sleeping, in reality his schizophrenic other half was working Tyler s jobs, making soap and trying to blow Americas materialistic views to pieces. Jack is able to destroy his alter ego by over coming Tyler s influence and shooting himself through the cheek; however, he is not able to stop Tyler s explosions. The last scene shows the buildings collapsing while Jack and Marla are kissing. Fight Club challenges the typical American consumer identity by creating two contradicting characters. Essay How to Tame a Wild Tongue Natalie Gonzalez 3/14/2007 Gloria Anzaldua, author of the article How to tame a Wild Tongue , expresses very strong views on how she feels her native Chicano Spanish language needs to be preserved in order to maintain cultural unity when used as a private form of communication. Her statement, for a people who cannot identify with either standard (formal, Castilian) Spanish, nor standard English, what recourse is left to them but to create their own language? suggests that despite the societal pressures of needing to learn more formal and ‘properly accepted English and Spanish, the very nature of the Chicano language is a unique creation of acceptance, through language within the Mexican culture. The Chicano language at best represents a personal story, a private communication that is not understandable or even acceptable by non chicanos. By contrast, Richard Rodriquez, in his article entitled Aria , strongly believes in surrendering to learning the proper English language, despite how strongly he feels his native tongue is a private language that once functioned to unite his family. Rodriguez creates a division of a public and a private discourse. He feels that he has a ‘right to learn the public language of los gringos . He creates a visual clash of two worlds: a public world as represented by school and the need to learn English; and a private world as represented by his family and the use of Spanish within the home. He feels that in order to adapt and create assimilation that he needs to abandon the comfort of using Spanish to communicate and force himself to learn English – even if it meant alienating his family members. He does not believe as Anzaluda does that you have to create your own language if you cannot identify with more formal forms of acceptance. Although he admits it is heartbreaking to have shared fewer words with his parents because of the language barrier, he thinks his choice in learning and practicing English was necessary. In fact, the more he learned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Once the brain death diagnosis is made the attending doctor does not have any more contact with the patient. This prevents the conflict of interest question from being raised. The responding organ bank, as well as the centers that receive the organs for transplant, provide on call doctors to assist in the recovery process. The hospital however maintains control of the patient. This chain of command is for the protection of all involved in the recovery and transplant process. In this situation the organ bank was challenging the diagnosis of brain death made by a member of the professional staff of AMH. Not only was there a challenge but it was being made by some one other then a doctor. Only a doctor can pronounce a patient dead. So here was another dilemma in that there was a challenge to the doctor s diagnosis being made by a nurse. This in it self goes against the State Nursing Rules for licensure. Nurses are not allowed to diagnosis nor practice medicine. The transplant coordinator nurse needed the support of the organ bank s medical staff. The organ bank s medical staff was not on scene and thus had to take the word of the transplant coordinator.
