The Biggest Slippery Slope-Personal Narrative
I was running down the field against Inter Lakes biggest rival Moultonborough. As the ball floats
through the air heading towards the goalie I know I can reach, but I knew it would be close. As I
approached the now rolling ball, I realize that the goalie would make it just before me. Desperate for a
goal I go to the last resort and decide to slide for the ball. I slide as quickly as possible which resulted
in me getting the slightest of touch on the ball that it slips past the goalie. I now realized that I had a
chance to score the goal I had worked for since the beginning of the game. With the goalie out of
position, I go to propel my body back up with my hand. As my hand hits the frozen fall ground it bent
back and the sound of my bone braking ran through my body.
I have to get back up and score the goal my brain was saying but my body was in shock and I laid
there in the cold grass. The ref blew the whistle and my good friend Brandon comes over to help me
while the others tell my coach to get out on the field or wait for me to get back up.
You good? asked Brandon.
I responded with, Yeah I m good but I broke my wrist. .
Brandon looked up and gave my coach a sign that something had broken.
By then my coach had ordered everyone for some space and he knelt down and said, Whats wrong .
My left wrist broke I replied ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once we got to the hospital I had noticed that I still had my shorts and jersey on from the game. On
top of that the bag of ice had a hole in the side and was leaking all over me and the hospital waiting

played soccer. Forty minutes later, I was finally getting a x ray done and they did confirm it was
broken. In result of the swelling I had to wait to cast and they temporarily gave me an arm

The Children s Hour by Lilly Hellman
Lillian Florance Lilly Hellman is deemed as one of the first important American woman dramatists.
She lived up to her last name by challenging the American public with unpopular beliefs of
Communism as well as other non traditional beliefs causing herself to be blacklisted by the House
Committee on Un American Activities. She was born in an affluent, Jewish family on June 20, 1905 in
New Orleans, Louisiana. Her mother, Julia Newhouse, stemmed from a successful bankers and liquor
dealers, while her father, Max Hellman, was a lucrative shoe salesman. She attended New York
University for two years after graduating from high school then transferred to briefly attend Columbia
University. In 1929, Hellman traveled Europe and settled in Bonn to continue with her education. At
the same time, she became attracted to a Nazi student group which advocated for a form of socialism.
However, Hellman immediately returned to the United States after being pressed about her Jewish
heritage. She became a short term member of the Communist Party from 1938 to 1940 in America.
However, Hellman drifted away from the Communist Party because it seemed to be the wrong place
for her. She described her own maverick nature [to be] no more suitable to the political left than it had
been to the conservative background from which [she] came. Lilly Hellman s career began and grew
during a time when writers were celebrities and their recklessness was admirable . Along with being a
restless dramatist,

Tobacco Smoking In Arlington Texas
Most smokers, if not all of them, are aware of the health implications of their habit. There is a reason
tobacco smoking is considered an addiction. Yet in spite of an understanding of the short and long
term consequences of tobacco use and the clamping down of the law on smokers, a significant
percentage of the population still lights up every day. Most smokers, when asked, say they want to
kick the habit, and have tried to on several occasions. But these attempts have been in vain. If this
applies to you, then perhaps dentists in Arlington Texas can provide you with the encouragement you
need to finally bridge the gap in your resolve! We all know that smoking causes lung cancer and heart

The Music Of The Band Heart
I imagine this doesn t apply to everyone, as each person is different and I know some people don t
listen to music (Gasp!). But in general, it seems as if music has the ability to move us. I ve thought
about this quite a bit, but the video of the band Heart s live cover of Led Zeppelin s Stairway to
Heaven really made me wonder (pun not intended. Seriously, though, if you haven t seen it, it s
nothing short of mind blowing; one of the best Stairway covers in a long time). I enjoy listening to
almost every kind of music, but my personal favorite has to be classic, golden age rock and roll (1960s
through 1980s, with some songs from other decades scattered throughout). I know some people who
will roll their eyes and mentally groan, I know! , at me bringing up my three favorite bands again (for
the record, they re 1) Queen, 2) Alice Cooper, 3) Aerosmith; not in order of preference, but the order
of when I got into them) but I don t let it get to me. (If I do, that s what my music binges are for). To
me, they never stop sounding amazing. Anyways, when I listen to it, it seems to control my emotions.
I have a chemical and physical response to the music. I know this happens with a lot of people. Why
do we seem to have such a powerful connection with music? Well, maybe because it affects each one
of us differently, there is no set answer; instead, there are many possible effects, such as... Dancing:

Poverty In Newark
Newark is a broken city, with years of neglect, corruption, and greed that have put generations of
families in a cycle of poverty. The generations of poverty have festered in a city filled with crime and
drugs. People can argue for years on how to approach and fix Newark s problems. Many can agree on
the significant problems of Newark, but the problems of Newark are not something that can be fix
overnight. It will take many years for Newark to recover. How does the Brick City get lifted out of
poverty and crime? A good place to start is with education both at the student level and offering
training programs for adults. The next step would be to create jobs beneficial to the people of Newark.

Minimum Wage and Poverty
Poverty is a significant topic that is being investigated, talked about and most importantly lived in by
millions in America. Many American citizens, specifically the children are not only living in poverty,
but they are living below the poverty line due to low minimum wage (Gidfar). A child living in
poverty can face serious problems in the future. Reducing poverty should not be charity work. As
citizens of the world it should be a social responsibility to find a way in which poverty can no longer
be a living status, especially for a developed country like America. It is one of the top countries before
Mexico with the highest rate of child poverty (Gidfar). In context, minimum wage has a large impact
on poverty within a country, as the higher the minimum wage the more disposable income families
have access to. The discussion of how the elasticity of demand of unskilled workers determines
whether or not the minimum wage should be raised to reduce child poverty is essential when
validating the relationship between the two variables (Rutkowski 7). While the analysis of William
Even and David Macpherson s study emphasizes the importance of taking employment in to account
as a variable as an indication to prevent job loss (2), through the clarification that although the United
States view child poverty as being an intractable problem (WaldFogel 3), there is evidence to support
that a raise in the disposable income of families can lead to reduction in child poverty (Dahl and

Monuments Essay
Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope. His full length portrait is carved into the Stone of
Hope as the stone itself is emerging from two boulders known as the Mountain of Despair. These
powerful words were derived from the side of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial that was
created to represent his soul rousing I Have A Dream speech. The memorialization of MLK and this
event s significance and impact on history was exquisitely executed, in my opinion. If you had to take
the responsibility of memorializing someone or a noteworthy event, how would you go about doing

Another example of a muddled purpose lies within The Maine Lobsterman. Maine is known for its
fishermen, so H. Elroy Johnson, a resident of Maine who trapped lobsters for a living, was chosen to
be memorialized. As his statue was moved from place to place its purpose was lost because he truly
represented his home state of Maine only. When developing a monument, its purpose is at the root of
its success and should be timeless and/or clear to those who will view it in the general public.
Secondly, placement is a key factor in creating a monument of someone or an event. As described in
Source E, placement could offend the surrounding population. In this source, the Holocaust Museum
is located in The Mall in Washington, DC and it offended both Jewish and non Jewish communities.
This is primarily due to the fact that a museum dedicated to the memory of the Holocaust would be
built in the United States, who did little to stop the Holocaust from occurring, or... ...open our shores

The Transformation of Gilgamesh in the Epic of Gilgamesh
The Transformation of Gilgamesh in the Epic of Gilgamesh
In The Epic of Gilgamesh by we see significant transitions in the hero s character as the story is
developed. In this narrative poem, we get a glimpse of who he is and what his purposes and goals are.
We see Gilgamesh act in many different ways. As an overbearing ruler resented by his people, a
courageous and strong fighter, a deflated, depressed man, and finally as a man who seems content
with what he s accomplished. Through all of these transitions, we see Gilgamesh s attitude toward life
change. The goals he has for his own life alter dramatically, and it is in these goals that we see
Gilgamesh s transition from being a shallow, ruthless ruler to being an introspective, content man.
The epic begins with the men of Uruk describing Gilgamesh as an overly aggressive ruler. Gilgamesh
leaves no son to his father; day and night his outrageousness continues unrestrained; And he is the
shepherd of Uruk, the enclosure; He is their shepherd, and yet he oppresses them. Strong, handsome,
and wise. . . Gilgamesh leaves no virgin to her lover. (p.18, Line 23 27) The citizens respect him, but
they resent his sexual and physical aggression, so they plead to the gods to alleviate some of their
burden. The gods resolve to create an equal for Gilgamesh to tame him and keep him in line. This
equal, Enkidu, has an immediate impact on Gilgamesh. When they first meet, both having never
before met a man equal in stature,

Anecdotal Evidence On The Classroom Engagement
Anecdotal Evidence Milman (2012) notes, the flipped or inverted classroom, used in K 12 and higher
education, has been receiving attention. According to Milman (2012), advocates of the strategy make
numerous benefits known, for example increasing classroom engagement. Milman (2012) notes there
are both advantages (it seems to be a good fit to teach procedural knowledge) and disadvantages
(students may not watch the videos and or it may not be the best way to learn the concept).
Additionally Milman (2012) notes, no empirical research exists to substantiate its use (p. 2); however,
many instructors support its use as a teaching strategy. According to Hamdan, McKnight, McKnight,
and Arfstrom, (2013) both quantitative and qualitative research is limited; however, there is research
that supports the model and the instruction of strategies that engage students in learning. Hamdan et al
(2013) state Flipped Learning has been mainly a grassroots movement (p. 9), although more
administrators and parents are researching this teaching method. Speak Up s annual online survey
(Fall of 2012) contained questions specific to the Flipped Learning method, 6% of respondents
indicated they were using some form of video enhancement and 18% of teachers indicated interest in
trying the method (Hamdan, McKnight, McKnight, Arfstrom, 2013). In Addition, 60% of grade 6 12
students agreed this method would be a good way for them to learn (Hamdan et al., 2013). Sophia, an

The Wisdom Of Whores-Bureaucrats Chapter Summary
Elizabeth Pisani s The Wisdom of Whores Bureaucrats, Brothels and the Business of AIDS is a great
book (along with a great website). Elizabeth Pisani is an epidemiologist with years of experience
working on HIV/AIDS (or sex and drugs, as she puts, which sounds a lot, well, sexier) at a variety of
agencies, including UNAIDS. The book is the story of her frustrations at the way the international
community, national governments, NGOS and AIDS activists have dealt with the epidemics, as well as
her hopes in some of the progress made. To me, precisely because the book is data driven, it was not
controversial. My reaction was more, well, if that s what the data show, so be it. But also, I think, the
book was billed as controversial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The writer on the contrary points out that the initiatives have not achieved the required target because
some of them advocate for things which are not practical. Instead, she proposes that emphasis should
be laid on educating people about safe sex and not trying to restrict and control individual liberty
supposedly for the greater good. She believes the disease is not about poverty and gender related
issues, it is behavior change. Many people in African countries get the virus because of having unsafe
sex with multiple partners. This is why the rates of infection are not declining despite the billions
being spent. The honesty box tries to bring out hidden facts behind the myths told by various
researchers concerning HIV/AIDS. Some of these myths are based on the data presented which are
usually inflated to favor funding and to act as a precautionary measure that AIDS exists everywhere.
The book opens the honesty box on drawbacks of medical research within the tropics. Pisani tackles
highly contentious issues with zest, including the possible public health shortcoming of antiretroviral
treatment, in addition to the benefits of mandatory HIV/AIDS testing. The author also presents data to
show that if couples living in Thailand were to have further premarital sex, then their men would be
the least likely to use commercial sex workers and the

True Feelings in Billy Collins Taking Off Emily...
True Feelings in Billy Collins Taking Off Emily Dickinson s Clothes
Upon first look, Billy Collins Taking Off Emily Dickinson s Clothes seems to be a wild fantasy for
Emily Dickinson that he is entertaining. Upon closer examination, however, the poem reveals his
subconscious desire to have sex with his mother and his frustration about his inability to do so,
resulting in the displacement of his sexual desires onto Dickinson.
From the beginning, Collins is very detailed with his description. In fact he is quite anal retentive in
explaining everything about the encounter. He starts from her outside clothing, first, her tippet made
of tulle (1) and on through her mass of clothing until finally reaching her corset ... Show more content

The mother of pearl buttons on the back (7 8) of the dress can be seen as an unconscious Freudian slip
which reveals Collin s true sexual feelings toward his mother. He could have referred to the buttons as
any color, but he chooses to use the term mother of pearl (7). Collins then says that he buttons are so
tiny and numerous that it takes forever before [his] hands can part the fabric (9 10). He seems to be
very methodical in his act of undressing Dickinson. He is the one doing the undressing, he is the one
in charge, and it is he who is in control of every detail. The simile like a swimmer dividing the water,
and slip inside (11 12) might refer to Collins slipping into his unconscious and thinking about his
mother, forgetting about Dickinson.
The fourth stanza begins with the line You will want to know that she was standing by an open
window in an upstairs bedroom (13 15) This seems to be more of Collin s anal retentiveness trying to
prove that he is in control. Se is motionless, a little wide eyed (16), which demonstrates her innocence
and how helpless she seems to be in this whole situation. By her lack of participation and his over
zealous control, one would think that it is more of a rape than a sexual encounter. The phrase looking
out at the orchard below (17) seems to be a phallic symbol. Dickinson is

The World Trade Center On The Wall Of A Chicken...
This site contains blocked messages these were the words spray painted on the back wall of a chicken
slaughterhouse. Looking at that this seemingly innocuous sentence it seems to convey the simple
message of how certain industries have been attempting to push the government to put more
restriction on what information people can share on the Internet. Not only that but pushing for an
increase in the censorship of certain websites and how they let there users interact. However, if one
really looks into the history of this message on the wall, they can see an interesting correlation as to
what occurred on the day it was painted. On the same day it was painted the New York Times had
denied a famous artist from publishing his article about his opinion on the history and design of a
memorial for an infamous event that occurred in New York, that event being the attack on the World
Trade center on September 11th, 2001. Now were these two seemingly separate events really
connected? Only a short time later the artist released the answer to this question, when the article that
had been previously denied by the New York Times, was mocked up by the artist and shared with the
world proving that the two events were connected. What could have caused the New York Times to
deny such an article and why did this artist feel the need to write it. In order to understand the
following arguments about the subject one must truly understand what happened on that fateful day.

Argument Of Morality
The Authors have debated the (de)criminalization of Section 309 on three grounds, morality
constitutionality and rationality. The contention of the Authors is that there is an inherent flaw in the
mechanism of criminalizing an attempt to suicide, the reasons for which are dealt with below.
A. ARGUING THE QUOTIENT OF MORALITY
Christianity puts an absolute prohibition over the attempt to suicide by mortal beings. Suicide is
directly contrary to the will of God, and finds origin in the realm of the demonic host, who come only
to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. Similarly, Hindu scriptures also portray the attempt of suicide to be
against the will of God and therefore, immoral.
The three major religions of India, namely Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity, all proclaim that suicide
as unacceptable. Teachings of both the Bible and Quran say that as God is the one who gives life, He
is the only one entitled to end it, and thus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hinduism considers human life is seen as the highest form of life and to cut that short would be
considered bad karma and would send a person back to a lower form of life. If this life is cut short
prematurely, then the person will become wandering spirit until the allotted time for them to move
onto the next life. Sati, the outlawed practice of a widow joining her dead husband on the funeral pyre,
could also be seen as suicide, but the cultural and social issues here are somewhat different. Hinduism
does have some acceptable forms of suicide that are considered self sacrifice rather than suicide:
agnipravesa offering of the body to fire, prayopravesa offering of the body to air, and samadhi offering
of the body to the earth. These ascetic religious practices can only be carried out when a person has

Romeo And Juliet Pyramus And Thisbe Essay
Many people have heard or read about Romeo and Juliet. There are also people who have heard or
read about Pyramus and Thisbe. There are many arguments claiming that both stories are very similar
and that there are hardly any differences but that is not true. Here are some similarities and differences
between these stories. Romeo and Juliet have a different plot compared to Pyramus and Thisbe.
Romeo and Juliet fall in love with each other but unfortunately their parents hate each other. There are
two separate groups, one is called Capulet and the other is called Montague. They try to find a way to

Then one day they decide they had enough and decided to meet each other privately. The
characteristic between Romeo and Juliet is also very like Pyramus and Thisbe. Romeo is very brave
and would do anything to see or meet Juliet. Juliet is very obedient, quiet, and innocent. We may have
thought that Juliet is very shy but that doesn t seem to be the case as when she meets Romeo she
speaks as much as Romeo and they kissed twice. Pyramus is also very brave and talks as much as
Romeo. Thisbe is also very like Juliet and loves Pyramus so much. Pyramus is very ignorant as when
he sees a piece of Thisbe s cloth he immediately presumes that an animal killed her and he kills
himself. The same goes for Romeo as when he sees that Juliet is dead he also takes his own life. Juliet
and Thisbe also take their own life when they see that their love is dead. The conflict is also very like
Pyramus and Thisbe. Romeo and Juliet are both from different groups. One group is called Capulet
and the other is called Montague. Romeo is from the Montague while Juliet is from Capulet and this
causes a lot of trouble for both. The Capulets don t get along with the Montagues and if they ever see

The skill which I am going to discuss about is impulse...
The skill which I am going to discuss about is impulse control. It means regardless of what is asked or
done, one is unable to control the need to act upon something. In other words, impulse can be
described as an immediate action or reaction that is particularly evident in emotions. This is an
important skill in today s environment which can indicate the adaptability of an individual in an
external environment and potentially determine future success. For instance, if one is unable to control
his/her impulse and bursts out of anger at every occasion; that person may not be emotionally fit to be
successful because of the lack of self control on their impulses. In the EQ report, the result indicates

SELF REGARD: It helps to assess both external capabilities and internal strength. It is an individual s
ability to maintain a positive self view in terms of personality, self esteem, and individual regard to

the result indicates that I am self assured in my abilities to perform responsibilities in various settings.
Of course, it is a correct evaluation because I usually think of the consequences of my actions upon
others. I agree to anything with a full satisfactory level by seeing the positive side alone. In my point
of view, positive thought beats negativity. Rather than dwelling on frustrations or things that cannot
change, I will devise a plan of action and ask others for assistance and advise to resolve the problems.
For example, I asked my brother s suggestion before selecting my course. He advised me to take an
accounting course since it has lots of job vacancies in Canada and it gives me a different experience in
this field. Even though it is totally different from my education background, I decided to do this

Evaluation Of A Powerpoint Video Essay
Introduction
The artifact I am reflecting on is a voice project, which is a PowerPoint video that I developed during
the Health Education Methods and Materials (HLED 558) course, that held on the Summer of 2015
semester at Eastern Michigan University. The PowerPoint video was made as a part of the plan to
advocate the EMU Tobacco Free Policy that went on effect July 1st, 2015. Also, it was made to market
the STOP cessation program that will be implemented later to help student quitting smoking. This
PowerPoint is mainly a collecting of some pictures showing different places at EMU campus in a very
beautiful view. In addition, the PowerPoint also include the EMU free zone map moreover, the logo of
the policy, and the logo of STOP program that were designed by two of my class peers and the. The
EMU website was used as a source for some picture. The idea of the PowerPoint is based on showing
the beauty of the EMU campus and making the connection of that to the EMU environment and
student health regarding tobacco free campus. That connection was made by adding some thoughtful
words emphasizing the hidden meaning I want to show behind those picture. Then delivering the
message about the policy and the program, all that with a companion of music.

all women, and it is reflected in the story. For instance, the main character Beatrice is this aesthetic,
sweet, and a naïve woman and Giovanni is just focused more on her beauty rather than anything else.
Moreover, when Giovanni first sees Beatrice in the garden, he describes her as the most beautiful
woman he s ever seen and is just blinded by her beauty. What he doesn t know is that her father,
Doctor Rappaccini, is a scientist who cares more about science more than anything else. The place
where Beatrice and Giovanni spend all their time together is in the garden, which represents loneliness
, and unfortunately one of the main characters will learn that the hard way. When Giovanni meets
Professor Baglioni, a professor of medicine who is Rappaccini s rival he helps him get Beatrice, or at
least that s what Giovanni thinks. However, what Giovanni does not know is that the love of his life
isn t who he thinks she is. Beatrice Rappaccini is the daughter of a scientist who is experimenting with
plants, and they have a beautiful garden in the backyard. She is the most beautiful woman that
Giovanni has ever seen and people around the village agree that she is beautiful, but nobody knows
the real her, they just notice her appearance. She is full of life, full of energy, and her heart is so big
and there isn t a drop of evilness in her body. For an instance, the reptile contorted itself violently, and
then lay motionless in the sunshine. Beatrice observed this remarkable phenomenon, and crossed
herself (Hawthorne 411). When people cross themselves it s because they re at a funeral, something
horrible just happened to one, or someone important to them. Beatrice and Giovanni spend all their
time together in the garden and it symbolizes a place of isolation and beauty because the flowers are
poisonous but beautiful. For example, a shrub catches his eye from the color, which is purple, and its
fragrance draws him

Ph Buffers To Amylase On The Rate Of Starch
Research Question: What is the affect of adding different pH buffers to amylase on the rate of starch
digestion measured using starch and iodine?
Background information:
pH is a measure of the concentration of ions in a solution. In other words, concentration of H+ and
OH molecules compose pH. When the concentration of H+ and OH ions are balanced (equal), the
solution is considered neutral. When the H+ dominates the OH molecules, the solution is considered
acidic. When the OH dominates the H+ molecules, the solution is considered basic.
Buffer is to be able to add either strong acid or base to a solution avoiding a great change in the pH.
Iodine is a significant element for life commonly needed by living organisms. Amylase is an enzyme

This mixture of amylase and pH buffer will be modified by the addition of more pH buffer into water
down (diluted) amylase enzyme. Also, the pH buffers used in this experiment vary by 1, 4, 7, 10 and
14.
Dependent Variable: Rate of starch hydrolysis, which will be determined by the change of color; if the
iodine turns blue black it indicates that the enzyme is denatured and if the iodine turns orange yellow
it indicates that the enzyme is working properly by digesting the starch.
Controlled Variables:
Amount of iodine. 50µL of iodine will be equally added into each micro plate.
Amount of starch and amylase mixture. 5ml of starch solution and 500µL of enzyme solution
composed of amylase and pH buffer.
Temperature. The experiment will be maintained in the lab at temperature (30°C)
Uncontrolled Variable:
Microorganisms might get in the tubes. To reduce this pollution, I will have to clean the lab
beforehand.
Sunlight may slightly disturb the maintenance of the room temperature.
Apparatus:

Narrative Voice In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet

Mary Wigman Research Paper
Mary Wigman rejected ballet technique in her dance style, perceiving classical ballet technique as
artificial and confining. Wigman believed that the emphasis should be on the transcendent nature and
spiritual purpose of the dance, while embodying essentialism (pg. 6, Newhall). She knew she was not
the best dancer in the room, but she knew how to be in touch with her emotions while dancing. She
drew upon sources from what was going on in the world during the early 1900 s from war to the
rebellion against the authoritarian tradition of the church, monarchy, and feudalism (pg. 73, Newhall).
Wigman freed dance from its slave like overtone with music and reestablished its independence of an
absolute language (pg. 7, Newhall). Wigman choose to look within and present the mind, spirit, and

discovery of the subconscious. Wigman wanted to unsettle the viewer, while taking the dancer and

For Wigman and her cohorts, this flight into archaic rituals seemed at once regressive, progressive,

The book Last of the Mohicans is about a group of Native Americans called the Mohicans. The
characters are Hawkeye, his adopted father Chingachgook, and his adopted brother Uncas. They re are
the last of the Mohicans, the last of the bloodline. The story takes place in the 18th century during a
seven year war between Britain and France. Hawkeye and the Mohicans try to save the daughter of a
British colonel when a conflict arises. Magua of the Hurons attempts to kill the Mohicans and kidnap
the two girls. Magua is the trouble maker and wants revenge against Col. Munro by trying to marry
one of the daughters and hurt his pride. There was a lot of racial conflict between white and Indian
race at a time when racism was at its height. The relationship between Chingachgook and Uncas is a
bit complicated. Their love for each other isn t portrayed well in the story. It s a distant love that
parents and children have endured throughout time. He s very protective of his daughter. She doesn t

Cultural Exchange In Africa
In the year 1235 C.E a new empire arose in africa just after the fall of the strong ghana years before
this empire, Mali was one of the strongest and wealthiest empires in Africa. Mali was one of the three
strongest and wealthiest empires,it is located in west Africa and above the Niger river. Mali became a
site of cultural exchange because when the people of the north seen their wealth they went to
trade,exchange ideas and share religion.
Mali became a cultural exchange because years before the empire of Mali arised the empire of ghana
was already there it had already attracted people from the north to trade for gold.
The first reason Mali became a site of cultural exchange is because they were the wealthiest empire in
africa located west of africa and people up north started traveling down west africa to trade for gold
and when people from foreign countries come to a new country they will share their culture along with
trading their goods.
According to The Ghana empire by U.C Davis Social Science in the year 2014 it states Mali was one
of three medieval kingdoms that ruled over West Africa. The first empire was Ghana, which was ruled
by a king from the Soninke people and Trade with the Arabs did not create the Ghana empire, but it
certainly made the rulers and merchants of Ghana much richer .These quotes show that Ghana was
one of the strongest and wealthy kingdoms and Mali was one of those strong, wealthy kingdoms and a

Lamar mocks Washington politicians with the names of gangs in his native Los Angeles, berating

depression and finding self love. On Mortal Man, Lamar speaks of his survivor s guilt at escaping the

One of Kendrick Lamar s singles I emulates self love in a society where that is frowned upon,

Descartes on Human Freedom
Having consider that Rene Descartes believed the presence of human freedom, it is not discernible and
clear what he held this freedom to consist in. Following to Descartes s argument that man are the
supreme source of human mistake or error and certainly not God based on the Fourth Meditation, he
offers and presents an interpretation of the activity of the human will and how it may be described as
free will. Assumed that Descartes discusses the freedom of choice and will as similar and compatible
in his argument, critics opt to emphasis on it to know Descartes s certain notions on human freedom.
Descartes illustrates an analogy between human will and the divine, stressing that it is human will
which is utmost perfect function because it lets them to bear in some way the image and likeness of
God (CSM 2:40). Rene Descartes understands and identifies that God s will is certainly much higher
than man s own in power. Though, Descartes also confesses that regardless of this, God s will does not
seem any greater than mine when considered as will in the essential and strict sense. (CSM 2:40)

A Thin Layer Of Fiction Are Looking Backward By Edward...
Throughout the years, literature has often been used as a means to spread social critique. When it
unfavorable or even dangerous to publicly speak out against the society of the time, the written word
can act as a shield. Adding a mask of fiction to these novels allows the author to get their message out
to the public who otherwise would not take the time for such issues. Two novels that exemplify this
social critique behind a thin layer of fiction are Looking Backward by Edward Bellamy and Herland
by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Both of these novels offer a critique to certain aspects of American
society during the time period, and do so in very similar ways. Each of these novels, Looking
Backward and Herland, depict utopian societies in order to fully illustrate the issues that the authors
see in their current society. Although the issues being addressed may be different, the way Bellamy
and Gilman discuss them contain numerous parallels. Ranging from the cause of these utopian
societies, to the mindset of the individuals living in them, both novels are very similar in their
approach to social critique of America. Even the differences between the two are caused by common
reasons. These parallels show the underlying format used by both Bellamy and Gilman that allowed
them to identify the flaws in American society and offer solutions to them. One such parallel found
within the novels is the cause of the utopian societies. Both Looking Backward and Herland depict

Issues surrounding the life or death of a person come with many sensitive areas of concern, including
financial, legal, ethical, spiritual, and medical matters. Today, physician assisted suicide has only been

These patients whose degenerating conditions cannot be fixed are forced to live each day in

People should respect the wishes of those who are simply exercising their freedom to die, rather than

The Impact Of The Mental Health Act
The Mental Health Act R.S.O. (1990) is a comprehensive piece of provincial legislation which
regulates mental health care in Ontario. Although it can be assumed that the legislation applies to all
mental health services and supports (Schizophrenic Society of Ontario, 2013), the laws described in
the Mental Health Act ( MHA ) apply only to psychiatric units in hospitals, and specialized psychiatric
facilities within the province (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health [CAMH], 2012), and to the
patients who are under observation, care or treatment in these facilities or under a community
treatment order (Mental Health Act, 1990). Although amendments have been made (Ontario. Ministry

These amendments include references to disordered behaviour, thought, or perception that severely
impairs judgement or capacity, of which psychiatric intervention is advised (Involuntary Psychiatric
Treatment Act, 2005). The broad definition contained within the MHA leaves the term mental disorder
open to interpretation, which may result in inconsistencies among Ontario psychiatric admissions.
According to the Mental Health Act (1990), a community treatment order offers a less restrictive
alternative to being held in a psychiatric unit or facility. Introduced to the MHA in 2000, a community
treatment order is a comprehensive plan of community based care that sets out the criteria for the
management and treatment of psychiatric outpatients (Byrick, K., Walker Renshaw, B., 2016).
However, research by Mfoafo M Carthy and Williams (2010) has suggested that community treatment
orders are unethical. Under a community treatment order, treatment typically requires an individual to
comply with medications that a physician believes is necessary for their normal function in the
community (Ontario. Ministry of Heath and Long Term Care, 2016). The MHA has been termed
unconstitutional based on its violation of the human right to life and liberty by mandating that an
individual participate in outpatient treatment (Picard, 2013), including medication compliance.
Apprehensions under the MHA attempt to divert an individual with a mental

The Good Soldier And Brideshead Revisited
The beauty of modernist literature lies within its attempt to seek greater meanings within a novel s
many contextual facades, including nothing short of skeptical and often times insightful interpretations
of culture, along with philosophical positions and literary criticisms. In this way, each description,
metaphor, and seemingly simplistic sign attributes a deeper meaning; nothing is as simple as it seems
and should not be taken as a coincidence or just as a means of setting description, but rather as a
metaphor for a character s true feelings, indirect reference to social changings of the time period, or
even a reflection of the author s inner philosophies and personal conflictions. Though different in plot,

both the physical and mental forms. Dowell along with his wife are acquainted with a wealthy British

Dowell remains a man searching for order in a world which has turned chaotic through his wife

Injury plague in the NFL catalyst for greater innovation
The game of football is still in its infancy. The invention of the forward pass and its official adoption
in 1906 is proof positive that fundamentally the game has room to advance. By all accounts, the
forward pass was the invention that saved the game of football after a great rugby player from Yale in
the 1880s, Walter Camp, pioneered rules changes that slowly transformed rugby into the new game of
American Football. Birth of Pro Football
Player safety has been the catalyst for football evolution. A fact currently supported by the NFL s 1st

@nflcommish gets booed often but, in my opinion, he was right to legislate the violent hits out of the

The wave of change has now begun and history seems to be repeating itself. Former NFL players

order to return players to the field. The deal avoids the need for a trial and means the NFL might never

Social Hierarchy And The Twisted Lip
Social Hierarchy and The Establishment of Identity:
The Man with the Twisted Lip
The short story by Doyle, The Man with the Twisted Lip, is based on disguises of wealth and
appearance and how these disguises change the point of view that people have in the social classes and
what they think about each other during the Victorian Era. Disguises can be used to create an identity
for one s own personal gain or to protect an individual s identity. Neville St. Claire uses disguise to
validate his place as a gentleman. His status as a beggar allows him to become the successful
gentleman that he should be, by concealing his true self to the social class system. Sherlock Holmes
uses his persona as a protection to keep the people of London safe and out of harms way. Between the
two personalities of St. Claire and Holmes is the outcome of what others may think of them; St. Claire
knows the identity that he has created is not accepted by the social class while Sherlock Holmes
identity is seen as a hero and is accepted by the social class. One uses his disguise purely for monetary
gain and the other uses the identity in order to solve mysteries and protect his city. As shown in the
The Man with the Twisted Lip , disguise is only allowed when the social class accepts the identity.
Despite the fact that St. Claire and Holmes created new identities through disguise, St. Claire is
shamed of his identity while Holmes is respected. Both disguises have various goals. St. Claire hides

Cyrano De Bergerac Analysis
France is usually equated with love and romance, and a love triangle is especially a favourite of most
audiences. The French movie Cyrano de Bergerac, an 1990 adaptation of the original 19th century
play of the same title, is going to satisfy the appetites of those who are hooked on everything about
love and French literature. Cyrano de Bergerac is a comedic remake of the same play, except with
exceptional cast members, completed with supremely poetic dialogues. Even if you are not a fan of
French poetry, the opulent costumes and enchanting music will surely bewitch your aesthetic senses.
Director Jean Paul Rappaneau intended this 2 hours, 18 minutes, PG rated dramatic comedy to feed
the eyes and ears of young adults. His cinematic adaptation remained loyal to the original play: the
movie starts off with the hero of the story Cyrano (Gerard Depardieu) falling in love with his cousin

Cyrano ferociously convinced that Roxane will never grow to love him. This changes when Christian

the Academy Award for Best Costume Design at the 1990 Academy Awards. The acting was as

Gymnastics Springboard
The topic of this experiment is to determine which type of gymnastics springboard will give the
highest elevation. There are two types of springboards used in vaulting the traditional springboard and
the air board. Based on research the hypothesis states that if a gymnast jumps on an air board then the
height off the board will be higher than if jumping on a traditional springboard.
To begin with, the vault has been in the Olympics for men since 1896 and for women since 1952. The
vault requires a gymnast to run down a runway, jump on a springboard, and flip over the vault table.
The springboard is a very important piece in the vault. It is made up of a platform and springs and is
used to help get the gymnast up in the air. This experiment was chosen to determine if one type of
springboard gives and advantage over the other. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both the traditional and air springboards are widely used and sanctioned by USAG guidelines. The
traditional springboard uses up to six vertical springs while the air board uses up to 40 horizontal
springs. Gymnasts appear to defy gravity when they are doing their flips but it is really physics and
Newton s 3rd Law in action. When a gymnast jumps on a springboard the springs compress and then
decompress pushing the gymnast into the air. This is an example of Newton s 3rd Law of Motion
which states that every action has an equal but opposite reaction (tackk.com/c003hs). Before the
gymnast jumps on the springboard the board and springs have potential energy. When the gymnast
jumps on the springboard it turns into kinetic energy and causes the board to push the gymnast up. The
larger number of springs in the air board have more potential energy which leads to the hypothesis that
it will provide the greatest

  • 2. The Biggest Slippery Slope-Personal Narrative I was running down the field against Inter Lakes biggest rival Moultonborough. As the ball floats through the air heading towards the goalie I know I can reach, but I knew it would be close. As I approached the now rolling ball, I realize that the goalie would make it just before me. Desperate for a goal I go to the last resort and decide to slide for the ball. I slide as quickly as possible which resulted in me getting the slightest of touch on the ball that it slips past the goalie. I now realized that I had a chance to score the goal I had worked for since the beginning of the game. With the goalie out of position, I go to propel my body back up with my hand. As my hand hits the frozen fall ground it bent back and the sound of my bone braking ran through my body. I have to get back up and score the goal my brain was saying but my body was in shock and I laid there in the cold grass. The ref blew the whistle and my good friend Brandon comes over to help me while the others tell my coach to get out on the field or wait for me to get back up. You good? asked Brandon. • 3. The Children s Hour by Lilly Hellman Lillian Florance Lilly Hellman is deemed as one of the first important American woman dramatists. She lived up to her last name by challenging the American public with unpopular beliefs of Communism as well as other non traditional beliefs causing herself to be blacklisted by the House Committee on Un American Activities. She was born in an affluent, Jewish family on June 20, 1905 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her mother, Julia Newhouse, stemmed from a successful bankers and liquor dealers, while her father, Max Hellman, was a lucrative shoe salesman. She attended New York University for two years after graduating from high school then transferred to briefly attend Columbia University. In 1929, Hellman traveled Europe and settled in Bonn to continue with her education. At the same time, she became attracted to a Nazi student group which advocated for a form of socialism. However, Hellman immediately returned to the United States after being pressed about her Jewish heritage. She became a short term member of the Communist Party from 1938 to 1940 in America. However, Hellman drifted away from the Communist Party because it seemed to be the wrong place for her. She described her own maverick nature [to be] no more suitable to the political left than it had been to the conservative background from which [she] came. Lilly Hellman s career began and grew during a time when writers were celebrities and their recklessness was admirable . Along with being a restless dramatist, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Music Of The Band Heart I imagine this doesn t apply to everyone, as each person is different and I know some people don t listen to music (Gasp!). But in general, it seems as if music has the ability to move us. I ve thought about this quite a bit, but the video of the band Heart s live cover of Led Zeppelin s Stairway to Heaven really made me wonder (pun not intended. Seriously, though, if you haven t seen it, it s nothing short of mind blowing; one of the best Stairway covers in a long time). I enjoy listening to almost every kind of music, but my personal favorite has to be classic, golden age rock and roll (1960s through 1980s, with some songs from other decades scattered throughout). I know some people who will roll their eyes and mentally groan, I know! , at me bringing up my three favorite bands again (for the record, they re 1) Queen, 2) Alice Cooper, 3) Aerosmith; not in order of preference, but the order of when I got into them) but I don t let it get to me. (If I do, that s what my music binges are for). To me, they never stop sounding amazing. Anyways, when I listen to it, it seems to control my emotions. I have a chemical and physical response to the music. I know this happens with a lot of people. Why do we seem to have such a powerful connection with music? Well, maybe because it affects each one of us differently, there is no set answer; instead, there are many possible effects, such as... Dancing: Dancing is a major part of almost every culture. • 7. Minimum Wage and Poverty Poverty is a significant topic that is being investigated, talked about and most importantly lived in by millions in America. Many American citizens, specifically the children are not only living in poverty, but they are living below the poverty line due to low minimum wage (Gidfar). A child living in poverty can face serious problems in the future. Reducing poverty should not be charity work. As citizens of the world it should be a social responsibility to find a way in which poverty can no longer be a living status, especially for a developed country like America. It is one of the top countries before Mexico with the highest rate of child poverty (Gidfar). In context, minimum wage has a large impact on poverty within a country, as the higher the minimum wage the more disposable income families have access to. The discussion of how the elasticity of demand of unskilled workers determines whether or not the minimum wage should be raised to reduce child poverty is essential when validating the relationship between the two variables (Rutkowski 7). While the analysis of William Even and David Macpherson s study emphasizes the importance of taking employment in to account as a variable as an indication to prevent job loss (2), through the clarification that although the United States view child poverty as being an intractable problem (WaldFogel 3), there is evidence to support that a raise in the disposable income of families can lead to reduction in child poverty (Dahl and ... • 9. The Transformation of Gilgamesh in the Epic of Gilgamesh The Transformation of Gilgamesh in the Epic of Gilgamesh In The Epic of Gilgamesh by we see significant transitions in the hero s character as the story is developed. In this narrative poem, we get a glimpse of who he is and what his purposes and goals are. We see Gilgamesh act in many different ways. As an overbearing ruler resented by his people, a courageous and strong fighter, a deflated, depressed man, and finally as a man who seems content with what he s accomplished. Through all of these transitions, we see Gilgamesh s attitude toward life change. The goals he has for his own life alter dramatically, and it is in these goals that we see Gilgamesh s transition from being a shallow, ruthless ruler to being an introspective, content man. The epic begins with the men of Uruk describing Gilgamesh as an overly aggressive ruler. Gilgamesh leaves no son to his father; day and night his outrageousness continues unrestrained; And he is the shepherd of Uruk, the enclosure; He is their shepherd, and yet he oppresses them. Strong, handsome, and wise. . . Gilgamesh leaves no virgin to her lover. (p.18, Line 23 27) The citizens respect him, but they resent his sexual and physical aggression, so they plead to the gods to alleviate some of their burden. Milman (2012) notes there are both advantages (it seems to be a good fit to teach procedural knowledge) and disadvantages (students may not watch the videos and or it may not be the best way to learn the concept). Additionally Milman (2012) notes, no empirical research exists to substantiate its use (p. 2); however, many instructors support its use as a teaching strategy. According to Hamdan, McKnight, McKnight, and Arfstrom, (2013) both quantitative and qualitative research is limited; however, there is research that supports the model and the instruction of strategies that engage students in learning. Elizabeth Pisani is an epidemiologist with years of experience working on HIV/AIDS (or sex and drugs, as she puts, which sounds a lot, well, sexier) at a variety of agencies, including UNAIDS. The book is the story of her frustrations at the way the international community, national governments, NGOS and AIDS activists have dealt with the epidemics, as well as her hopes in some of the progress made. True Feelings in Billy Collins Taking Off Emily Dickinson s Clothes Upon first look, Billy Collins Taking Off Emily Dickinson s Clothes seems to be a wild fantasy for Emily Dickinson that he is entertaining. Upon closer examination, however, the poem reveals his subconscious desire to have sex with his mother and his frustration about his inability to do so, resulting in the displacement of his sexual desires onto Dickinson. Collins then says that he buttons are so tiny and numerous that it takes forever before [his] hands can part the fabric (9 10). He seems to be very methodical in his act of undressing Dickinson. He is the one doing the undressing, he is the one in charge, and it is he who is in control of every detail. The simile like a swimmer dividing the water, and slip inside (11 12) might refer to Collins slipping into his unconscious and thinking about his mother, forgetting about Dickinson. The contention of the Authors is that there is an inherent flaw in the mechanism of criminalizing an attempt to suicide, the reasons for which are dealt with below. A. ARGUING THE QUOTIENT OF MORALITY Christianity puts an absolute prohibition over the attempt to suicide by mortal beings. Suicide is directly contrary to the will of God, and finds origin in the realm of the demonic host, who come only to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. Similarly, Hindu scriptures also portray the attempt of suicide to be against the will of God and therefore, immoral. Through my research, I have found that the Naval Academy has very interesting Alumni/post school experiences, wonderful extracurriculars and an extensive history. Many colleges and universities have unique alumni and a unique after college experiences, but none are quite as daring and interesting as those of the USNA. This would later change to two years of study preceding and following three years aboard a ship. He is the new voice of Compton, filling in big shoes for Tupac and Snoop Dogg. His sophomore album, To Pimp a Butterfly, explores institutional and internalized racism. On Mortal Man, Lamar speaks of his survivor s guilt at escaping the inner city only to be embroiled at what he described as a new struggle against discrimination. • 35. A Thin Layer Of Fiction Are Looking Backward By Edward... Throughout the years, literature has often been used as a means to spread social critique. When it unfavorable or even dangerous to publicly speak out against the society of the time, the written word can act as a shield. Adding a mask of fiction to these novels allows the author to get their message out to the public who otherwise would not take the time for such issues. Two novels that exemplify this social critique behind a thin layer of fiction are Looking Backward by Edward Bellamy and Herland by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Both of these novels offer a critique to certain aspects of American society during the time period, and do so in very similar ways. Each of these novels, Looking Backward and Herland, depict utopian societies in order to fully illustrate the issues that the authors see in their current society. Although the issues being addressed may be different, the way Bellamy and Gilman discuss them contain numerous parallels. Ranging from the cause of these utopian societies, to the mindset of the individuals living in them, both novels are very similar in their approach to social critique of America. Even the differences between the two are caused by common reasons. These parallels show the underlying format used by both Bellamy and Gilman that allowed them to identify the flaws in American society and offer solutions to them. People should respect the wishes of those who are simply exercising their freedom to die, rather than arguing that society has an obligation to protect all life (Andre). The broad definition contained within the MHA leaves the term mental disorder open to interpretation, which may result in inconsistencies among Ontario psychiatric admissions. According to the Mental Health Act (1990), a community treatment order offers a less restrictive alternative to being held in a psychiatric unit or facility. Introduced to the MHA in 2000, a community treatment order is a comprehensive plan of community based care that sets out the criteria for the management and treatment of psychiatric outpatients (Byrick, K., Walker Renshaw, B., 2016). However, research by Mfoafo M Carthy and Williams (2010) has suggested that community treatment orders are unethical. Under a community treatment order, treatment typically requires an individual to comply with medications that a physician believes is necessary for their normal function in the community (Ontario. Ministry of Heath and Long Term Care, 2016). The MHA has been termed unconstitutional based on its violation of the human right to life and liberty by mandating that an individual participate in outpatient treatment (Picard, 2013), including medication compliance. In this way, each description, metaphor, and seemingly simplistic sign attributes a deeper meaning; nothing is as simple as it seems and should not be taken as a coincidence or just as a means of setting description, but rather as a metaphor for a character s true feelings, indirect reference to social changings of the time period, or even a reflection of the author s inner philosophies and personal conflictions. The Good Soldier is a novel about how crucial the differences between appearance and reality truly are, and about the reluctance of human willingness to accurately perceive events in light of undesirable affairs that are outside of our protagonist s domain of control. The protagonist, John Dowell, is the unreliable narrator of the novel and a naive man who is easily taken by appearances in both the physical and mental forms. Dowell along with his wife are acquainted with a wealthy British couple known as the Ashburnhams, who all together form the two couples whose dwindling relationships shape the subject of the novel. For the duration of the affairs in The Good Soldier, Dowell remains a man searching for order in a world which has turned chaotic through his wife Florence s infidelity. Presenting himself as tolerant, just, and as the victim of the novel; Dowell unintentionally paints himself to be a man who has faith in others and in tradition, and who accepts that people are as they appear to be as his true colors are brought to light in his recollection of the saddest story ever told . (Ford 1) For nine years, Dowell assumes that Edward Ashburnham is perfectly honorable and trustworthy in every sense of the way, because of Edward s high class status and reputation of being a good soldier. The invention of the forward pass and its official adoption in 1906 is proof positive that fundamentally the game has room to advance. By all accounts, the forward pass was the invention that saved the game of football after a great rugby player from Yale in the 1880s, Walter Camp, pioneered rules changes that slowly transformed rugby into the new game of American Football. Birth of Pro Football Player safety has been the catalyst for football evolution. A fact currently supported by the NFL s 1st and Future initiative dealing with this very topic and others. Social Hierarchy And The Twisted Lip Social Hierarchy and The Establishment of Identity: The Man with the Twisted Lip The short story by Doyle, The Man with the Twisted Lip, is based on disguises of wealth and appearance and how these disguises change the point of view that people have in the social classes and what they think about each other during the Victorian Era. Disguises can be used to create an identity for one s own personal gain or to protect an individual s identity. Neville St. Claire uses disguise to validate his place as a gentleman. His status as a beggar allows him to become the successful gentleman that he should be, by concealing his true self to the social class system. Sherlock Holmes uses his persona as a protection to keep the people of London safe and out of harms way. Between the two personalities of St. Claire and Holmes is the outcome of what others may think of them; St. Claire knows the identity that he has created is not accepted by the social class while Sherlock Holmes identity is seen as a hero and is accepted by the social class. One uses his disguise purely for monetary gain and the other uses the identity in order to solve mysteries and protect his city. As shown in the The Man with the Twisted Lip , disguise is only allowed when the social class accepts the identity. There are two types of springboards used in vaulting the traditional springboard and the air board. To begin with, the vault has been in the Olympics for men since 1896 and for women since 1952. The vault requires a gymnast to run down a runway, jump on a springboard, and flip over the vault table.
