Writing An Essay About A BookWriting An Essay About A Book
Jonathan Swift s A Modest Proposal
The story A Modest Proposal makes the readers feel a sense of dread and disgust. The Modest
Proposal is a pamphlet written by Jonathan Swift, a satirist from the Dublin literary world, and it
is about a proposal being proposed and narrated by the economic projector [and] an ostensibly
genuine voice which can usefully be called Swift s (Phiddian 610). The proposalis a plan to make
20,000 poor people breed, sell the rest for money, for the 20,000 poor, in order to raise 20,000 of
the children and to repeat this process for forever as far as the narrator s concerns go. While the
first true sign that the pamphlet is a deterrent comes from the sentence before the proposal, this
will begin with the proposal. In the beginning of the proposal the narrator seems like a man of
logic, making a logic based proposal, but after the semicolon and comma and before the last
comma the narrator goes from a man of logic to an emotional arguer who hates the savages that the
kingdom created, and form the structure the savages could be the those who can t raise their
children. But it could also be the people making other proposalswhich are more likely by the words
that follow it and that in Swift s Modest Proposal: The Biography of an Early Gregorian
Pamphlet In the letter concerning the Weavers he says: I am weary of so many abortive projects
... of so many crude proposals in letters sent to me (Wittkowsky 94) which supports that the
savages are the proposer s previous to him.

Herb Lubalin Graphic Design
Advertising in the Lubalin and Brodovitch Era
Graphic design started many years ago. Over time, graphic design skills changed, as well as the
implementation of ideas. Different designers from around the world practiced design, and each one
had their own way. Designers experiences helped them to do more modern work. Some of them
brought new ideas to graphic design and developed it. There are many professional designers, but
Herb Lubalin and Alexey Brodovitch deserve to be known in the history. They bring creative and
modern ideas to the art deco movement.
Herb Lubalin was an American graphic designer, born in New York, March 17, 1918 and died
March 17, 1981. He entered Cooper Union at age of 17 and he became entranced in the
possibilities presented by typography (history graphic design). He practiced his considerable
skills and attracted an array of designs when he worked with Sudler and Hennessey for 18 years.
Lubalin had his own private studio in 1964 and this gave him the freedom to do a range of
projects. Also, he created his first typeface called Pistilli Roman in1964. He worked for magazines
published by Ralph Ginzburg: Eros, Fact, and Avant Garde (history graphic design). The
International Typeface Corporation was a type manufacturer founded in New York in 1970 by
Aaron Burns, Herb Lubalin, and Edward Rondthaler.
Alexey Brodovitch was a Russian photographer and graphic designer, born in Russia in 1898, and
died on April 15, 1971 in France. His father was a physician

Alexander The King s Impact Of Alexander III The Macedon
Alexander III the Macedon, known as Alexander the Great ruler (21 July 356 BCE 10 or 11 June
323 BCE),he was the child of King Philip II of Macedon. He end up being lord upon after his
dad s demise in 336 BCE and went ahead to vanquish the vast majority of the known universe of
his day. He is known as the immense both for his military brightness and his discretionary
abilities in dealing with the different overall public of the areas he prevailed At the point when
Alexander was youthful, he was prepared to battle and ride by Leonidas of Epirus, a relative of
his mom Olympias, and to manage hardships, for example, constrained walks. His dad, Philip, was

A Balanced Literacy Program Is a Necessity for a Child s...
A balanced literacy program is a necessity for a child s education. The program should include
multiple instructional activities being consistently implemented in the classroom. The National
Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) determined, 37% of fourth graders
read below basic level and much higher in minority groups. (INSERT CITATION) More than 60%
of African American and Latino children are below grade level. A variety of instructional activities
are needed to teach children to read effectively. Each of the activities play a necessary role, but can
not stand alone when teaching children to read. These activities include: phonemic awareness,
phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing. (CITE INFORMATION)
Effective teachers use balanced literacy instruction in their classroom, teachers see the results in
their children s ability to effectively read. In a study conducted by the National Reading Research
Center supervisors were asked to select their highly effective teachers to be surveyed about their
literacy programs in their classrooms. The 89 teachers reported integrating explicit skills instruction
and opportunities to read and write whole, authentic texts (INSERT CITATION). The teachers
consistently reported using authentic lessons. The lessons were modeled, guided explanations;
follow up mini lessons, and assessments. Lessons were taught using a variety of instructional
methods including: whole group, small groups, and

Essay about Beowulf as a Messianic Narrative
Beowulf as a messianic narrative has been a subject of great controversy. Given the time period,
Christianity was not completely established, and it was entwined with cultural paganism, as seen
woven throughout the text. The definition of a messianic narrative (containing the ultimate
messianic figure) is found in Isaiah53, a prophecy spoken by God through the Hebrew prophet
Isaiah. This is the standard to which Beowulfmust be compared to determination the nature of the
poem. Many scholars such as Harold Bloom (quoting E. Talbot Donaldson), Roberta Frank, Rich
Lawson, Seamus Heaney, and J. R. R. Tolkien (quoting R. W. Chambers) have critically viewed
Beowulf to determine the nature of the epic, resulting in a diverse range of... Show more content on

Bloom and Donaldson argue that whilst Christian elements are present, heroic paganism is more
prevalent in Beowulf. This is supported by the death of Beowulf, reading, of all the world kings,
[he was] keenest for fame, summarising Beowulf, and suggesting his life only amounted to self
glorification.
In assessing the Christianity of Beowulf, Frank suggests that, like King Alfred did of Remiguis s
commentaries, the author of Beowulf used pagan analogies for Christian concepts. Lawson
explores this in the role fate has throughout the poem. The Geat prince placed all his trust in...his
Maker s favour, Then Beowulf speaks, The Father...shall apportion the honours...to whichever
side shall seem to Him fit, . The poet wrote, Fate had not assigned him the glory of battle, . The
composer s personification of Fate portrays the place it has taken God s place. Lawson writes of
this, The pagan concept of fate...is tied to God, suggesting that Beowulf is resigned to fate, but the
author is using this to illustrate the nature of God. Frank also states, What matters is how the
rulers...served God s purpose, , also calling Beowulf a, Pagan prince of peace, . While Beowulf
demonstrates a pagan trust in fate, Lawson and Frank believe it was the author using paganism to
convey the messianic narrative, and that Beowulf was instrumental in doing so.
In analysing Beowulf, Lawson concluded it was a messianic narrative including a messianic figure,

Comparing Dermot Bolger s The Holy Ground and In High Germany
Some call it Ireland. Others instead choose to call it the Holy Ground. In the end, it doesn t
matter which name is used to refer to the Emerald Isle. To those with Irish heritage, the mere
mention of Ireland is enough to evoke many emotions: pride, happiness, nationalism, anger, just to
name a few. They feel strongly about the country. It is not just the place where they were born.
Love it or hate it, it is home. Dermot Bolger explores the feelings of two Irish in his plays The
Holy Ground and In High Germany. These plays have been performed together under the joint title
The Tramway End. Some may think that there is not enough in common between these two plays for

These lines may call to mind the relationship of Myles and Monica in The Holy Ground. When
Eoin says, that his parents were, awkward together in public like any Irish married couple, it

Analyzing Howard Becker s Labeling Theory
Labeling Theory
The labeling theory is another important theory in the groups of sociological theories. It essentially
states that no acts is intrinsically deviant, but rather are established by those in power through the
formulation of laws and the interpretation of those laws by police and criminal justice system
(Schmalleger, 2014). In other words until someone or a group in society says that XYZ is an
illegal act then it is considered non deviant (Schmalleger, 2014).
The person associated more often than not with the labeling theory is Howard Becker. Howard
Becker in the 1950s used symbolic interactionist approach to study deviance and focused on the
way in which negative labels get applied to individuals and on the consequences that this
labeling process creates (Becker, n.d.). In his 1950 s book Outsiders, Howard Becker focused
his attentions on what he called moral entrepreneurs or those who engage in the process of
getting particular behaviors and acts as being deviant and therefore illegal. As an example think
about marijuana laws as opposed to laws against alcohol. Smoking marijuana was deemed illegal
while alcohol is approved by society (Becker, n.d.). Howard Becker felt that most individuals who
were given a label were the misfortune victim of an act deemed deviant and never ... Show more

This theory has also been criticized for its primary focus on a relatively limited range of
behaviors. It lacks the awareness of everyday crime such as property crime. Finally the labeling
theory does not say much on those who engage in deviant behavior in secret, or those who are
simply never caught committing a crime. So since they are not given a label it stands reasonable to
ask if they would continue down the same path of criminality (Schmalleger,

Essay on Women s Roles and World War II
If you were born right now, this instant, at you re present age without any knowledge about how
women used to be treated, the assumption could be made that men and women are basically equal.
Yes, men are a little stronger physically, but overall the two sexes are both equal. Things weren t
always so picturesque, though. Since people first settled here, on what is now the United Statesof
America, women were thought of as inferior. Ever so slowly though, the men s view on women
began to change. The change started in the 1920 s but it was going slowly and needed a catalyst.
World WarII was that catalyst. So much so that women ended up participating in the rise of the
United States to a global power.

Thus where there were men in jobs before, there was nobody and with that women flowed into
factories and offices, taking over jobs previously thought that only men could do (Palmer, Colton,
p.719).
May 22, 1942, will surely go down on the record, predicted the Christian Science Monitor. It was
the day that women joined up with the army... It was obvious; the U.S. needed a larger military
force. Thus women joined the army within organizations. From there came Oveta Culp Hobby, the
director for the first American military organization of women. This organization was called the
WAAC (Women s Army Auxiliary Corps). Many people were impressed by the strength of the
WAAC and it is said that within three months, the AAF was discussing the possibilities of obtaining
more members of the WAAC (Weatherford, p.34).
In 1943 there was a U.S. male pilot shortage. In August, the WASPS (Women Airforce Service
Pilots), were formed to aid the shortage. For the most part the WASPS weren t used for actually
fighting. They were used mainly used for ferrying bomber and fighter planes from factories to
airbases. Even in the Airforce, while helping the men, women were still antagonized by the men.
The WASPS lasted only for one year and in 1944, when the male pilot shortage ended, a proposal
to make the WASPS a part of the Airforce was submitted. The

Lab Report On Luciferase
Introduction
In this experiment, the enzyme Luciferase (Luc) was purified using differential centrifugation,
precipitation, and a simplified chromatography procedure, followed by an enzyme activity assay
using the enzyme s natural substrate, Luciferin, to confirm the presence of Luc.
Luciferase is a 61 kD enzyme naturally found in the tails of fireflies, a member of the Lampyridae
family. Luc acts as a catalyst in an oxidation reduction reaction with Luciferin, which allows these
insects to exhibit bioluminescence for mating and communication ( Firefly Luciferase, n.d.). In this
reaction, Luciferin is adenylated and oxidized to produce Oxyluciferin, along with carbon dioxide,
adenosine monophosphate, and light ( Luciferase Mechanism, ... Show more content on

Following the purification process, the enzyme activity assay should reveal luminescence in the
supernatant fraction of the tail sample. SDS PAGE of the samples should reveal a band at 61 kD
in the tail sample and no distinct banding in the head sample.
Materials and Methods
Protein Purification:
To begin, samples of both firefly heads and firefly tails were divided amongst the groups. Our
group was assigned the firefly head to use as a negative control, while the other was assigned to
the tail. The firefly tissue was lysed by grinding with a pestle in the tube (Tube A) both before
and after adding 250 L of Lysis buffer (1X PBS with 1% SDS). This mixture was then sonicated
for two minutes to complete the lysing process.
The tubes were then centrifuged at 1,000 rpm for 3 minutes to remove the large tissue pieces. The
supernatant of this tube contained the soluble compounds and proteins that were present in the
cytosol of the cells present in the tissue. The supernatant was removed using a micropipette and
transferred to a new 1.5 mL Eppendorf tube (Tube B), and the pellet Tube A was discarded.
The supernatant in Tube B was then mixed with 1 mL of ice cold acetone in order to separate the
proteins from the other compounds present in the aqueous solution. Tube B was spun in the
centrifuge at 10,000 rpm for 2 minutes. The resulting supernatant was removed and discarded to
isolate the pellet, containing the

Analysis Of Stop All The Clocks
W. H. Auden s poem, Stop all the clocks, expresses the meaning of massive grief, a tragic loss,
and a tireless hopelessness best represented in the last lines, For nothing now can ever come to
any good. Personally the mood of the poem felt a bit depressing and a sadness that I know all too
well. The title and first line of the poem explains the author s heartbroken grief by including the
audience to do something which we all know is not possible, Stop all the clocks. This itself let
us know that time could not be stopped, yet when a loved one has pass it feels like at that
particular time we don t want to believe that the love of our life is gone. So we want the clocks to
stop. The time could also signify to the deathand shortness... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The funeral parade described in lines 7 and 8 serves to further represent both the importance of
the deceased and the grief caused by this person s death. The third verse, especially lines 9, 10,
and 11, again bring the closeness of the relationship between the author and the deceased. The
author shows great respect for this person by using overstatement, figure of speech to imply how
important this person meant to the author. In line 9, He was my North, my South, my East and
West, indicates the intimacy between the two individuals and incorporated with the next line,
My working week and my Sunday rest, indicates their relationship to be of a very devoted nature.
This is also stated in line 12, I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong. This can be
interpreted to represent the speaker s unawareness toward an inescapable death. The author s
love for this man is very rare as he can describe it, to the points of end of time. This love between
them is so strong that anyone reading this poem would believe their love will last forever, but as
you read on you realize not until the death of this person that he loved; was the realization made
that this thing called love, like everything else, must and will come to an end. The last verse mainly

World War I During The World Of Russia

strategically vital to Russiafor two reasons. First, access routes to both the Black Sea and Caspian

The Chechens were the most active opponents of Russia s conquest (1818 1917) of the Caucasus.

The Patriot Movie Historically Accurate Analysis
The Realism of The Patriot
I think that the movie The Patriot was somewhat historically accurate. I think that it was somewhat
historically accurate because of Benjamin Martin, Colonel Tavington, and the Battle of Cowpens.
Also because some things that were demonstrated in the movie; are true facts. Some things that
happened in the movie are not, some things are fabricated by the producers of the movie. So the
movie cannot be completely historically inaccurate, and the movie cannot be completely
historically accurate. So I think that The Patriot was somewhat historically accurate.
The first reason that I think that The Patriot was somewhat historically accurate is because of the
man named Benjamin Martin. Benjamin Martin is based on a man named Francis Marion.

They are also correct about Tarleton/Tavington being sent by Cornwallis to fetch Martin/Marion,
and not accomplishing the task. Hollywood was wrong about some things though. According to
The Patriot Tavington had a bad relationship with Cornwallis, but history says that Tarleton
considered Cornwallis his mentor. Hollywood also says that Tavington/Tarleton was killed in
battle and had a face to face encounter with Martin and his sons. This cannot be historically
correct because : 1. Marion had no kids until after war. 2. Tarleton never actually had a face to

director added this for a happy ending. So the character of Tarleton was not captured

Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disorder
Abstract
Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a metabolic disease commonly
associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and inflammation all features of insulin resistant syndrome.
However, very limited data are available regarding the association of subclinical inflammation and
insulin resistance with NAFLD in a prediabetic state. We, therefore, conducted the study to assess
this relationship among this population.
Methods: We studied a cross sectional analytical design of 140 [male/female, 77/63; age in years
(ranges), 45 (25 68)] prediabetic subjects after confirming with 75 g oral glucose tolerance test
(OGTT). The diagnosis of NAFLD was made by ultrasonic examination of the liver and divided into
groups of without NAFLD (n = 63) and NAFLD (n = 77). All individuals underwent anthropometric
and clinical examinations. Among laboratory investigations, serum glucose was estimated by
glucose oxidase method, serum lipid profile and liver enzymes were measured by the enzymatic
colorimetric method and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) was measured by high performance liquid
chromatography (HPLC) technique. Serum insulin and high sensitivity C reactive protein (hsCRP)
were measured by enzyme immunoassay technique. Insulin resistance (HOMA IR) was calculated
by homeostasis model assessment (HOMA).
Results: There was significantly higher levels of hsCRP (2.82 В± 1.60 vs. 1.39 В± 0.66 mg/l, P

The Violation Of Norm Violations Essay
Norm Violations Norm violations are a form of actions that do not seem right to some people.
Let s say that you are in a public place, you are expected to act respectful and normal. Norms
describes the expectation of a behavior. (James M. Henslin) One can perform a norm violation by
doing the opposite of that, like invading personal space. There can be different reactions to violated
norms which sociologists call sanctions. (Henslin) Mores, folkways, and values revolve around
norms as well.
Mores and folkways are two different types of norms. Folkway being one norm that is not really
being enforced (Henslin). It can be not smiling when a stranger gives you a smile or, not waving
back when someone waves at you. Mores is the opposite of that, it involves something for the
most part everyone hates i.e. killing, robbing, raping (Henslin). Specifically it can be a
pedophile. One can say that many parents across the United States dislike pedophiles. Parents do
not want their kids experiencing getting touched by someone older than them in inappropriately
or even worse rape them. Now that would be a negative sanction. Values can be a person s ideal
way on how to behave in certain places or their principles, just like ethics, beliefs, or standards
(Henslin). Values can vary in cultures or religions as well. For example, when it comes to the
LGBT community, which is also known as the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, I
believe that everyone deserves to be happy

Scientific Evidence For Warming Of The Climate System Essay
Introduction
Scientific evidence for warming of the climate system is unequivocal according to the
intergovernmental panel on climate change ( Climate Change Evidence ). This climate change has
caused sea levels to rise, temperatures to rise, oceans to warm and rise, ice sheets to melt, and
extreme weather events along with many other impacts. 97% of scientists believe global warming is
caused by humans and it needs to be addressed ( Scientific Consensus ). Countries and
individuals have been trying to help on whatever level they can. Individuals are making small and
easy changes in their daily lives to help address the problem. One way society has tried to address
the issues of global warming is to create products which are more environmentally friendly. These
goods are often called natural , green , eco friendly , or they carry other eco labels to tell consumers
that they are better for the environment than alternative products.
When a consumer walks down the aisle of a shopping market they are bound to see various
products that claim to be green or eco friendly . Many large retailers including Target, one of the
nation s largest retailers, have exponentially expanded the number of eco labeled products they
carry (Harris). When 97% of shoppers at Target say they are buying some product that is natural,

Type And Topology Of Lan
Type and topology of LAN
In the early beginnings of a Local Area Network consisted of mainframe computers and terminals.
Now networks consist of front ends which interface with the network, back ends take care of
requests by clients, clients are systems or applications that request services, Servers manage the
network and its resources, routers link the two or more networks together, and switches allow
multiple computers on a network interface to communicate. These are for small locations like an
office building.
A Hybrid topology can incorporate multiple topologies to give it other routes to travel. They can
use a central hub or switch using the unshielded twisted pair Ethernet cables for the Star topology.
They can have a backbone network using the Fiber Distributed Data Interface or FDDI.
They can also use the Wireless topology using access points as part of the hybrid topology. This
is a great feature for both employees and customers. The range is up to 100 meters and is fast
when needing to access applications. It uses the 2.4 and 5 GHz band. It is also cheap and cost
effective.
LAN cabling
The two types that can be use are the twisted pair and fiber optical cabling. There are two types
of twisted pair cables. They are shielded and unshielded Ethernet cables. They are copper wires
being twisted around to protect from emissions and noise. They are mainly used in an internal
network or office because it is cheaper and easier to install. They use an RJ45 connecter and

Greenhouse Gas Pollution
In the United States, the two largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions are transportation and
electricity. Although limiting the emissions from electricity will be important in the future,
transportation would be much easier to fix now. Greenhouse gases such as methane, carbon
dioxide, water vapor and nitrous oxide not only pollute the air we breathe, but they also store
energy that could be causing climate change. These molecules trap heat from leaving our
atmosphere which is believed to cause the earths increase in heat. Most Americans see climate
change to be an issue that should be acted on, and since greenhouse gases could be causing climate
change the emissions of these gases need to be limited. Recent studies show that transportation
produces nearly 27% of greenhouse gases in the United States(Sources of Greenhouse Gas
Emissions, 2017). In addition, the leading producer within the transportation category is light duty
vehicles. Many people say that airplanes and ships are to blame for the majority of greenhouse gas
production in transportation, but the majority of the pollution actually comes from the cars
Americans drive every day (Fast Facts on Transportation Greenhouse Gas Emissions, 2015). The
United States government needs to take charge and make changes that will help limit the
production of greenhouse gases. To fix these issues, the government could limit the cars that
citizens are allowed to own or change existing tax laws to benefit drivers of fuel

writing a book that is meant to provide information that it is detailed enough. He did an excellent
job explaining very important details.
Another strength would be that the arguments that he chose supported his thesis statement. The
evidence provided makes it obvious that you cannot blame it on Custer. He chose appropriate

The last strength would be the short section of pictures in the middle of the book. Most of the
pictures were the portraits of the people involved with captions. It s nice to have an idea of what
the people in the book look like when reading a history book or any book. They are also older

Chronicle of a Death Untold by Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez
TQ: To what extent do the Machismo and Marianismo ideals act as a catalyst to the plot of
Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez?
Honor over Love Honor can be earned and built throughout years of work and commitment but
lost in just one single action. When looking at many Latin American cultures it is the women s
duty to preserve the honor, and the male s job to protect it if there is ever a threat. The social
ideologies of machismo and marianismo act as a source of pressure to follow through the different
events and conflicts that took place in the novel Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia
Marquez. The standards held to men and women, along with multiple examples of the ideologies
present in the book assist in the revelation of how much the social norm and peer pressure effect a
person s decisions. The Columbian town Marquez transports the reader to appears no different
than the rest of Latin American in social standards. Machismo the idea of a man being the rock and
foundation of a family; along with marianismo the standard women are held against to be pure and
preserve their family, and their own, honor, virtue, and status. The idea of machismo and
marianismo are extremely contradistinctive when it comes to the standards being set. Santiago

Interracial Dating and Marriage
Interracial dating and marriage is a very touchy subject. Society today and in the past has always
discriminated against interracial intimate interaction; and this is not limited to the United States.
Today, interracial dating and marriageis beginning to be accepted simply because love triumphs all.
However, there are still a vast amount of people, communities, and ethnic groups that oppose
intimate interracial interaction. They believe that such intimate relationships between two different
races should never be developed or maintained. So the real question is, will love be enough to
break the barrier and change the minds of those who oppose interracial marriage? ... Show more

Interracial dating and marriage is a highly controversial topic among the Indian community. In
the eyes of most Indians interracial mingling is not acceptable under any circumstances. To be
frank, they abhor the thought of their children or fellow Indians dating or even marrying people
from other races. Now the big question is why? Why do Indians detest interracial dating and
marriage? The answer to this question is not a simple one. For each person it may be a different
answer. But the most prominent answer you will receive is that there is a vast cultural difference
between races. Indians pride themselves with their culture; it s what makes each Indian who he
or she is. So if you try and break that culture you will face issues from all around. Most Indians
who marry people of other ethnicities face problems from not only other Indians within their
community, but also their own family members. Sadly sometimes the answer to the question, will
love be enough to break the barrier, is a no. You would think that even if society, your community,
and friends oppose you, your family would support you. Sadly that s not the case in most Indian
families. Instead of showing love, compassion, and understanding they are ridiculed and mocked;
and all for what? For loving someone outside their race? Some families go as far as to disown their
children, nieces/nephews, uncles/aunts, and

Oxidation Of Benzoin To Benzil
This experiment performed the second step in a multistep synthesis. The reaction carried out was
an oxidation of benzoin to benzil using a recyclable copper catalyst, cupric acetate. The cupric
acetate acted as an electron acceptor in a redox type reaction. The benzoin donated an electron to
cupric acetate and formed the Cu+ ion while becoming a benzoin radical cation. The benzoin
radical cation lost a hydrogen to the Cu+ ion forming acetic acid. Another redoxcycle between
Cu2+ and the benzoin radical took place, forming a second Cu+ ion and the benzoin cation lost a
proton to another acetate ion to form the product benzil. The benzoin was oxidize to benzil as well
as the Cu+ ion was oxidized to Cu2+ using the ammonium nitrate, which was

Improve Your Sax
One of the most common struggles new saxophone players must overcome is the quality of the
tone. The saxophone isn t the easiest instrument to play, as you need to learn to manipulate the
airflow in order to create the unique and pure tone.
If you are struggling with a rough tone, sudden squeaks or bad intonation, the following tips will
help you improve your control of the airstream. These exercises will improve the tone of your sax
and take your playing to the next level.
Improve Your Breath Support
First, it s important to learn the right breathing technique. You need to breath from the abdomen, as
this guarantees you use the muscles in your abdomen and back to push out air. It gives you much

Boost Your Vocal Cords
You also want to focus on your vocal cord, also known as the larynx. This is because it regulates
the air speed and will help make the sound clearer.
A simple way to exercise your larynx is to sing sirens up and down. You could also try to sing the
vowel sounds A, E, I, O and U at a steady pitch. This is a great exercise to do right before your
playing sessions.
Focus on Avoiding Puffed Cheeks
Most saxophonists starting out make the mistake of puffing their check when they play. You
shouldn t intentionally puff them, as this will inhibit some of the muscles you should be using to
fix intonation.
Try playing a high E while saying first the word heel and the word pool . Notice the difference?
You can see how the tongue affects the sound of your saxophoneand you can use this to your

Assembling In The Iliad

Assembling in The Iliad
(Holding councils of war or holding assemblies) Every great war in history has been determined,
to some extent, by the powerful strategies executed by one party of the war. These strategies ,
most of the time, are not the brainchild of one individual, but more or less a group of people
collaborating toward one strategy effective enough to turn the tides of battle. The most effective
way for important leaders to voice their opinions for their next endeavor is achieved through the
use of assemblies. Assemblies were very important to the armies in the Trojan War
, as both sides
had great power, meaning that cunning strategy would be the winning factor for one of the
parties involved in the Trojan War. However, assemblies held during the Trojan War were more
one sided toward the authoritative figures rather than a true collaboration between leaders and
wise men. These assemblies follow a simple pattern: a leader calls out to the army to form an
assembly when he sees it fit; then, the leaders and wise men then collaborate and voice their
opinions on the matter at hand; and finally, the figure with the highest authority in the assembly
decides what to do next as a result of the assembly. The assembly begins with an important leader
calling for one when he sees it fit to form one. For example, an assembly was called by Achilles
due to concerns from the plague in Book 1; it was revealed that

Origin Myths Research Paper
Origin myths explain the mysteries of the world and answer the question of how the earth was
created and humans purpose on earth. Each culture has a different myth; in these myths, generally,
the gods or the god created mankind, earth, animal, and heaven. Many of these stories present the
gods with a paternalistic attitude toward the human species. The gods care for humans and provide
them with essential items needed for survival. Also, the gods castigate mankind when the human
race was mischievous. This relationship is described as the relationship between a parent and child.

In Genesis from the Bible , God stated It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him
an help meet for him . A help meet is a helpful companion or a spouse. God created Woman for
Man, so Man could have help ruling over the animals and company. This demonstrates God s
compassionate toward mankind. God did not want a man to feel lonely or rule alone, so he
created Woman. Many parents want their child to get married and live their lives with a
companion who is successful and loved their child. Like these parents, God created Woman for
Man as a helpful companion and soulmate. Even though he does this, when Man and Woman
ate from the tree of knowledge, he cracked down on them. In The Fall from Genesis , God
punishes his people by multiplying [Woman] sorrow and thy conception... [Man] shall rule over
thee and Man shall in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground .
These are the punishments God had given Man and Woman, now called Adam and Eve, for
eating from the tree of knowledge and learning about good and evil. Eve and all women will
have pain before and during conception and will be a vassal to Adam and all men. Adam and all
men will have to work for his food until the day he dies. Like some parents, God punished mankind
when they go astray. Parent discipline their children by taking away their stuff like their phone or
by grounding them. Also parent makes their children do chores around the

Taiwan Taxi Icall System
Executive Summary With its great success in Singapore, a GPS based system like the iCall
seemed like the perfect fit for Taiwan Taxi. The company had plans of expanding its membership
to 20,000 and believed the iCall would help it achieve this goal. Unfortunately, the iCall did not
bring the success that Taiwan Taxi hoped it would which left management questioning why the
system worked so well in one country and not the other. The answer to this lies in the cultural
differences and a lack of understanding of the Taiwan labor force that is currently working in the
taxi industry. In order to successfully implement the iCall in Taiwan, management needs to tie value
to the system in order to gain support from its employees and the... Show more content on

This negative perception of the iCall system is limiting Taiwan Taxi s ability to obtain more
subscribers and explains why the company is having difficulty reaching their goal of 20,000
members. This identifies a clear disconnect between management and the cab drivers. The
managers associate the iCall with direct value and make the assumption that the cabbies will do the
same. However, many cabbies have not figured out how to strategically utilize the technology to
increase proficiency and maximize profit.
Regulatory Differences In Singapore, the taxi industry was highly regulated and organized. Drivers
are required to hold a valid Taxi Driver s Vocational License which could be obtained after
completing their training course at the Singapore Taxi Academy and passing a theory test.
Comparatively, Taiwan drivers only need to pass a basic driving test to become a cabbie. This
difference in credentials shows the control and regulatory differences between the two cultures in
the taxi industry. As a result of the rules and regulations in Singapore and the lack of rules and
regulations in Taiwan, the regions gain two completely different types of taxi drivers. The
Singapore taxi industry acquires employees that are professional and dedicated to their job
because they see it as a career. The drivers there plan on staying in the profession for an extended
period of time. In Taiwan the lack of rules and regulation in obtaining professional licenses

Another misconception I had was that gangsters/mobsters controlled only corrupt policemen and
judges when in fact, they controlled people at all levels of the government, occasionally even the
president. Important characters like president James K. Polk, the Kennedy s, and several senators
had a relationship with Irish American gangsters that contributed to the politician as well as the
gangster s success. Their strongest relationships though, were with the police force. Becoming a
policeman was encouraged by the White Anglo Saxon Protestants because who better to take on
the dangerous, low paying job than a Paddy? (61) And so, Irishmen who often had grown up
with famous mobsters ended up as the majority of the police force; mobsters not only gained
more power in the local area due to this, but the stage was now set for corruption at all levels as
well.
In addition to the educational facts, I also learned some neat fun facts about gangsters and their
traditions. Old Smoke Morrissey was the first true Irish Mob Boss, and as such he was the one who
established the looks, desires, and attitude that we derive our stereotypes from. He started the
tendency of wearing striped suits, hats, big rings, and pocket watches, as well as having a well
kept beard and hoping to be accepted by aristocratic society through money. The famous book The
Great Gatsby was actually inspired by the mixture of glamour and danger that

Cultural Appropriation Is Inevitable Like Globalization
Into
In the summer people wear flower crowns and get excited for the music festivals that come with
the season. Their hair is in braids and they have henna sticker tattoos on them. Tanned, smiling and
holding hands they head towards the festival s entrance. One could say this is the new version of
the Flower Power era from the nineteen sixties and seventies (). However people continue to make

Cultural appropriation is inevitable like Globalization The cultural exchanges of ideas, beliefs, and

What Does Darkness Symbolize In The Fall Of The House Of...
The Fall Of The House Of Usher is a suspense, novel written by the famous dark romantic Edgar
Allen Poe . Poe is a master at making the creepy, even more horrifying by using specific tone. His
tone is is the idea of prevailing darkness and pure gloom. Just about everything in this story is
draped in darkness to add to his sinister plot. And at no point is there a happy feeling, the plot just
keeps dragging the character into a deeper pit of despair. Showing us how there is evil in every
one even between siblings. Darkness is used a little less than the idea of gloom in this short
story but its just as important. This story wouldnt be as sinister if darkness itself wasn t
involved. The whole of a dull, dark and soundless day in the autumn of the year, when the clouds
hung oppressively low in the heavens, . . . . (1 2). This was a quote from the very beginning of
the story, that can put in perspective how dark and ieiri this story was going to be. While the

Introduction/Theoretical Background: A common task in chemistry is the determination of a
substance present in a product. If the product contains a substance that can be oxidized, then it is
possible to determine the number of moles of that substance by titrating the sample with a solution
of a strong oxidizing agent. In this lab, a solution of KMnO4, an oxidizing agent, will be
standardized by titrationwith a solution containing a known concentration of iron (II) ions, (Fe+).
The concentration of oxalic acid solution will be determined by titration with the MnO4 solution

The nullification crisis The nullification crisis was a crisis that began ,1828 when a new tariff was

A Revolution of the Distressed Essay
A Revolution of the Distressed
The world today is faced with many obstacles concerning all the peoples of the world. The issues
range from globalization to the state of the environment with every political, economic, and human
interest lying in between. It is these human interests that will be brought to light by examining the
revolutions of the Incan indigenous beginning in the early part of the twentieth century. Running
parallel to their North American neighbors, the native peoples of Peru have lived in seriously
impecunious conditions as the result of ethno racial discrimination handed them by their colonial
occupiers; Spanish speakers. These revolutions, namely Shining Path, would eventually define the
gap between the rich ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ever since the time of Spanish colonial rule, Incans were being treated completely unfairly. And
in the late 18th century, Peru began to see the first of its native revolutions under Jose Gabriel
Tupac Amaru II in 1780. These uprisings were headed by Indian nobility who showed antipathy
towards the Spanish administration as a result of being forced to subject their own people to
taxes, unfair market prices, and slave labor. The Incans throughout the time of Spanish colonial
rule had hopes for the renewal of their age old empire. However despite at least 100 revolts against
colonialism the empire was never revived. (Strong 41)
It was not until the 1920 s that the Incan rebellion would make any significant progression
excluding the pride they may have taken in brutal revenge and retaliation murders and massacres
against Spaniards. In this decade Peru witnesses the first shift from predominantly unorganized
revolution to serious political development. Although the movement known as Alianza Popular
Revolucionaria Americana (APRA) was crushed under the Leguia regime, the faction was the first
political party to legally call for reform in regard to the condition of the highland populations or
peasantry. Strong points out that its leader, Victor Haya de la Torre, had a poem

Social Darwinism in Cyberpunk Literature Essay
In the 1870s, the English sociologist Herbert Spencer applied Charles Darwin s theories of
biological evolution to human behavior and institutions. Spencer used the idea of survival of
the fittest in biology and theorized human society had evolved the same way (Cooper 15).
Social Darwinism, as Spencer s theory is called, pits everyone against each other to survive in the
world where humans are soldiers in a war for survival. If a person is poor, it is their fault and no
one should help that person rise above the poverty status. If a person is rich, they are worthy of
the position based on their actions, even if morally wrong. So if one is poor, the person will be
weeded out of society while the rich survive.

Not just the strong will survive, but the one with the strongest technology will triumph. This is
Cyberpunk.
For example, the story Burning Chrome by William Gibson illustrates the genre s theme of
characters manipulating technology to survive. The protagonists of Gibson s story are
Automatic Jack and Bobby Quine, a couple of hackers waiting for their big score to come
through. They need the financial windfall quickly too, since Bobby is loosing his edge at the
computer console and isn t getting any younger. He was twenty eight, Bobby, and that s old for a
console cowboy, (Gibson 170). Jack s job is to simply keep up with the hottest software to give the
pair a greater edge.
In general Gibson is describing two hackers losing the evolutionary battle for survival. At age
twenty eight, Bobby is already outdated. Cyberpunk is quick and dirty when it comes to survival.
The evolutionary fight is hard and normally a character has one shot, like these two characters.
What Jack and Bobby need is something to place them above the rest of the hacker world, and in
Cyberpunk that can only be found though manipulating technology. This edge above competition
comes in the form of a black object:
It was obviously some kind of plug in military program. Out of the mailer, it looked like the
magazine of a small automatic rifle, coated with nonreflected black plastic. The edges and corners
showed bright metal, it had been knocked around for a while. (Gibson

Essay On The Impact Of 1968
THE IMPACT OF 1968
The world revolution of 1968 of course primarily concerned a series of major political issues: the
hegemony of the United States and its world policies, which had led it into the Vietnam war; the
relatively passive attitude of the Soviet Union, which the 1968 revolutionaries saw as collusion
with the United States; the inefficacy of the traditional Old Left movements in opposing the status
quo. In retrospect, 1968, the year of global revolt halfway between the end of World War II and the
end of the Cold War, looked like a failed revolution. Nonetheless, the impacts of 1968 formulated
ever gradually progressing definitions of today s world system.

The belief among the protestors that the Old Left was deluded up with the establishment and had
become an obstacle to the stimulus of social change led to the inception of the New Left. Moreover,
its improvisations formulated the upheavals to be existentialist in nature with an aim to solidify
humanity. Thus, arose the revolutionary movements focus on various social issues such as peace
activism, anti racism, feminism, environmentalism and so on. These issues were of a social trend
rather than political or economic one. They were not trying to reform the system. They wanted to
dismantle the corporate system they have concluded had failed them.
Some of these student groups became a major part of the New Left, a broad based political
movement that challenged existing forms of authority, while others embraced a counterculture that
promoted sexual liberation and unabashed drug use. Moreover, the escalation of protests intensified
to be inclusive of other movements who sought to seize the opportunity to broadcast their own
interests. These movements were met with anti activist out lashes from the Conservative side of the

Unit 5 Exercise 1 Sip Papers
[5]. What is SIP? SIP as an app layer protocol aims to provide call sessions that is used by many
technologies such as VoIP. It is agreed that it somehow looks like HTTP since it uses HTTP based
technique for the authentication [how sip works2]. How SIP works: A classical SIP architecture
usually consist of the following: вћўUser Agents (UAs): UAs is typically end client or server client
tool which handle the incoming requests and reply to it. вћўUser Agent Client (UAC): UAC is
responsible of creating a request. вћўSIP Registrar Server: UAs check the SIP Register Server in
order to report the existing of itself. Also, SIP Register Server is DB consisting of references and

In this section, [how sip works2] provide some methods that might help to reduce the risks of
flooding and app attacks. System hardening: Detaching unneeded network services might be a
good way of hardening a system since it is considered as a way of securing the operating system.
Also, considering having a system that helps to track down the malicious packets such as an
antivirus system might help to deter the suspicious packets from going into SIP system. Strong
authentication: It is known that SIP has no security system, which means it has no authentication
techniques which makes it more exposed to getting attacked. The need of having such a technique
becomes more crucial nowadays. A practical method to sort out this issue is using an encryption
scheme that helps SIP traffic to be encrypted. Another issue of SIP authentication is having no
integrity level. This issue could be addressed by using an integrity mechanism such as TLS
(transport layer security). TLS provides high level of secured traffic by using key management,
which is very secured [security analysis]. VoIP aware

The Nervous System and Sexual Function Essay
The nervous system is divided into three components: the central nervous system, which
encompasses the brain, brain stem, and the spinal cord, the peripheral nervous system, which
includes the sensory receptors and effector muscles and organs in the body, and the autonomic
nervous system which is part of both the peripheral and central nervous systemand controls visceral
and largely unconscious functions (Barker Barasi, 2005). The sexual response activates all these
systems.

Several hypothalamic areas have been shown to modulate erections in rats, including medial
preoptic (MPOA) regions (MacLean, 1996), while Barker and Barasi (2005) s findings suggest the
ventromedial area is the main control centre for the sympathetic nervous system and the lateral
hypothalamic area being the main centre for parasympathetic activation. Steer (2000) reviews
lesion, electrostimulation, and tracing data and identifies two pathways from the hypothalamus to
sacral autonomic centres. The first goes from the dorsomedial hypothalamus through dorsal and
central grey matter, travels to the locus coeruleus, and then projects to the mesencephalic reticular
formation, where descending efferent input is sent through the dorsal columns of the spine down to
the thoracolumbar and sacral autonomic nuclei. The other pathway arises from the dorsomedial and
ventromedial hypothalamus, travels through the ventral and central tegmental regions, the pontine
reticular formation, and the substantia nigra, and finally through the ventrolateral area of the pons
and medula and into the dorsolateral funiculus in the spinal cord. The hypothalamus also has direct
projections from the paraventricular nucleus to the autonomic areas in the spine involved in
erection (Saper et al., 1976) as well the sacral ventral horn, a penile somatic motor nucleus.
Ascending genital sensory input also plays an important role in central

The Issues And Effects Of Military Families
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the issues and effects of military families and how they cope
with deployments and reintegration. That is, by exploring many interventions and programs such
as Operation Purple Camp, Military Child Education Coalition, and Families Overcoming under
Stress. These programs should be utilized more often in order for families and children to
effectively cope with military stress from deployments and reintegration. Three common themes
that were analyzed in the literature review which are 1) Effects of Deployment and Reintegration of
Military Families and Children; 2) Interventions for Children of Deployed or Reintegrated Parents;
and 3) Maltreatment with Children of Deployed and Reintegrated parents. Specifically, this paper
analyzes issues that fall under each of these three themes. That is, School and Educational Effects
and Deployment, Psychosocial and Behavioral Effects of Deployment, Education and School
Environment Intervention Programs, and Family Focused Intervention programs.
Introduction
One of the most difficult challenges that military families and children have to face is deployment
and reintegration. When Service individuals are deployed on extensive missions, the capacity to
viably adapt to the separation is imperative for keeping up individual well being and health for
families and children (Delahaij, 2016). Families and children deal with a lengthy amount of
stressors. The most commons stressors that

keep the system accurate and helps track the earning and loses of the investment plan, and the
expenses and benefit distributions to the participants accounts. Employees must have a plan
provided to them from their employer that includes all information on eligibility of the benefits
and the requirements. The advantages and disadvanages should be stated and a short summary
of the plan that will be provided. This is a must in any organization when offering a 401(k)

retirement plan that is similar to profit sharing. A trust fund is set up through the organization and
then the organization contributes new shares to buy new assets or existing stock. An organization
is able to borrow money from the ESOP to make cash payments to replay their loans. When a

Marjane Satrapi s Persepolis
Persepolis is an autobiography of Marjane Satrapi s childhood in her native Iran. She writes
about being a child in Iran through the Iranian revolution and the Iran Iraq war. As Satrapi
recounts stories of her youth, one can observe that the Iran Iraq war and the Iranian revolution
are the central events driving the entire story. When the revolution and war happens, the
dynamics of the book change completely. War creates a sense of unity and nationalism. Marjane
shows a large contrast between her life before and after the war. The war forces her and her
family to adapt in ways that they would have previously never thought possible. This process of
adapting to her environment proves to be very insightful for readers as it gives a very provides a
previously unseen perspective. Her community and family prove to be essential in dealing with the
atrocities as they adapt to their environment during the war.
The Iran Iraq war changes Marjane s family dynamics in a dramatic manner. This causes her
family to begin rely on each other in a ways that are previously unobservable in the text. As the
daily comforts of their wealthy lifestyle disappear and are replaced with perpetual terror, one
begins to see Marjane s family bonding on an entirely new level. Early in the war, Marjane s
family begins spending more time as a unit. This can be seen in the increase in frames ,in the text,
depicting her family conversing in rooms around the house. Her family begins to spend large

The Importance Of Emotional Intelligence And Emotional...
The EiQ assessment was in itself a big challenge to me. I have been a rational person all my life. In
my opinion, Emotional Intelligence and Emotional Quotient is influenced by people surrounding
you. With this assumption, I would like to review this EiQ assessment.
According to the EI assessment some of my greatest emotional strengths are self awareness, high
value integrity, empathy, good impulse control, healthy coping skills and healthy level of self
esteem. I would say the result in exactly what I expected it to be. I have always put value integrity
as my top priority and logic has always overpowered my emptions when it comes to dealing with
situations involving value integrity. Even during my time as an engineer, the company values and
processes were guiding light to me and I have always resented circumventing those value even when
asked by senior management. However, areas such as self awareness and empathy needs some
improvements and I believe leadership experiences in my career going forward would allow me to
develop these skills further.
There is a big list for areas of EI improvements. To begin with, my emotional self awareness is
very limited and I am not comfortable with emotions in general. This didn t surprise me at all. As
stated before, I am a rational person. Ability to understand where to draw a line between being
emotional and being rational has limited my emotional self awareness. The report also says that the
ability I would resolve conflict

Ms. Conlon Applies The Nursing Process System Or Processes...
Ms. Conlon applies the nursing process to systems or processes at the unit/team/work group
level to improve care. Deirdre has been the primary nurse for 6 hemodialysis patients. She has
involved patients and families in monthly interdisciplinary meetings to promote self efficacy and
quality of life. With the help of the interdisciplinary team Deirdre has worked collaboratively to
address and reinforce nutritional needs, social/family issues, barriers to care, and safety concerns.
All of her primary care patients have maintained a goal of 100% for dialysisadequacy (benchmark is
85%) and a vascular access rate of 100% and dictated by KDOQI standards.
Deirdre noted a downward trend of a veteran pts access. With quick intervention the access resulted
in a patent access with better clearances for this patient, and the preservation of the dialysis access.
During the transitioning process to the new hemodialysis unit, Ms. Conlon anticipated the
challenges acquired by learning to set up and use new water equipment in an acute situation. In
response to this, Ms. Conlon created and implemented a reverse osmosis flow sheet to assist her
colleagues with the quick set up of the portable RO in the ICU care setting. This tool resulted in a
smoother transition for her colleagues, improvement in the delivery of care to the acute dialysis
patient, and a decrease in the possibility of staffing overtime.
She created a flow sheet used by the nurses to import data useful for review at

The value of objective and subjective evidence in understanding mental health conditions
It is important to consider both subjective and objective evidences to gain a comprehensive picture
of any mental health condition. I am going to demonstrate through examples how parallel
considerations can be used by clinicians to gain a full understanding of mental health disorders.
Subjective evidence is how the patient interprets the working of his own mind. It includes what he
reports about his thoughts and feelings including any uncomfortable sensations or distressing
thoughts. Objective evidence on the other hand is measurable. It comprises of any signs of the

health, psychosocial or environmental problems, their ability to integrate into society and take care

Subjective evidence includes the thoughts and feelings of the patient. It comprises of the
symptoms the patient is reporting and the level of distress he is experiencing. A patient suffering
from depression for example might report symptoms of having dark thoughts, feeling blue, can
complain of persistent low mood, outbursts of crying, decreased appetite and activity levels, lack
of sleep. These are all examples of subjective evidence. Objective evidence about the condition
includes any signs noticeable to the clinician that can be taken as an indication of mental disease.
This can include slumped posture, poor hygiene, scruffy appearance, sadness, crying, sighing or
pacing. Lack of appetite can be a symptom a depressed person is complaining about, while the
amount of weight loss is measurable and objective. Aches, pains and flulike symptoms may not
have any biological basis in the body but can be psychosomatic manifestations of the depression.
Moreover depression usually accompanies many severe, long term conditions.

themselves or the various products developed using their seeds. He was interested. The grapes
became a hot commodity and over six months, he paid for orders and delivery has been prompt,
and no issues about payments even though they can be 15 to 30 days late. During one of the
deliveries, Marshall made my son signed a contract that includes a guaranteed price schedule
consistent with what he had been paying. Marshall told him that it was just a formality to
guarantee a continuing business relationship. The signing of that contract established a formal
business agreement between the two companies. Our business transactions were running
perfectly, we were trying to meet the demand for our product, and until recently when a
company in Texas offered to pay me twice the going rate for my products. I informed Marshall as
I don t want to leave him out to dry. He was very angry and he told me that he expects me to

Virtuoso Comparison Essay
At the time when people s moral codes are slackening, a community is in need of spiritual
guidance more than ever. That was why Virtuoso was founded in the first place. Just like all other
religions, Virtuoso is against violence and embraces humanity at its heart. Nevertheless, there are
major similarities and differences that are also need to be addressed. Virtuoso, by definition, is a
practice of faith that focuses on spiritual growth and harmony with nature. It shares the same
monotheistic structure with Hinduism, where there s only 1 all powerful God(Brahmin) that results
in a plurality of forms, also known as the deities . In Virtuoso, Mother Nature is the center of
worship, and she comes in 4 distinct forms: Ignis (Fire), Aqua (Water), Aer (Air) and Terra (Earth).
Each deity is a gender neutral divine being that symbolizes Willpower, Wisdom, Love, and
Integrity, respectively. Despite having different systems of beliefs (2), Children of Virtues and
Buddhists still have 1 thing held in common. They both put emphasis on spiritual growth and
certain aspects of kindness throughout their preaching especially on generosity and giving up on
material possessions. In fact, this is clearly demonstrated by the rule that each Child of Virtue
would need to submit 20% of their annual income to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Christians have done to Charles Darwin s Theory of Evolution), we choose to treat Science as
another practice of faith that is completely irrelevant to

  • 2. Jonathan Swift s A Modest Proposal The story A Modest Proposal makes the readers feel a sense of dread and disgust. The Modest Proposal is a pamphlet written by Jonathan Swift, a satirist from the Dublin literary world, and it is about a proposal being proposed and narrated by the economic projector [and] an ostensibly genuine voice which can usefully be called Swift s (Phiddian 610). The proposalis a plan to make 20,000 poor people breed, sell the rest for money, for the 20,000 poor, in order to raise 20,000 of the children and to repeat this process for forever as far as the narrator s concerns go. While the first true sign that the pamphlet is a deterrent comes from the sentence before the proposal, this will begin with the proposal. In the beginning of the proposal the narrator seems like a man of logic, making a logic based proposal, but after the semicolon and comma and before the last comma the narrator goes from a man of logic to an emotional arguer who hates the savages that the kingdom created, and form the structure the savages could be the those who can t raise their children. But it could also be the people making other proposalswhich are more likely by the words that follow it and that in Swift s Modest Proposal: The Biography of an Early Gregorian Pamphlet In the letter concerning the Weavers he says: I am weary of so many abortive projects ... of so many crude proposals in letters sent to me (Wittkowsky 94) which supports that the savages are the proposer s previous to him. ... • 3. Herb Lubalin Graphic Design Advertising in the Lubalin and Brodovitch Era Graphic design started many years ago. Over time, graphic design skills changed, as well as the implementation of ideas. Different designers from around the world practiced design, and each one had their own way. Designers experiences helped them to do more modern work. Some of them brought new ideas to graphic design and developed it. There are many professional designers, but Herb Lubalin and Alexey Brodovitch deserve to be known in the history. They bring creative and modern ideas to the art deco movement. Herb Lubalin was an American graphic designer, born in New York, March 17, 1918 and died March 17, 1981. He entered Cooper Union at age of 17 and he became entranced in the possibilities presented by typography (history graphic design). He practiced his considerable skills and attracted an array of designs when he worked with Sudler and Hennessey for 18 years. Lubalin had his own private studio in 1964 and this gave him the freedom to do a range of projects. Also, he created his first typeface called Pistilli Roman in1964. He worked for magazines published by Ralph Ginzburg: Eros, Fact, and Avant Garde (history graphic design). The International Typeface Corporation was a type manufacturer founded in New York in 1970 by Aaron Burns, Herb Lubalin, and Edward Rondthaler. Alexey Brodovitch was a Russian photographer and graphic designer, born in Russia in 1898, and died on April 15, 1971 in France. His father was a physician ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. A Balanced Literacy Program Is a Necessity for a Child s... A balanced literacy program is a necessity for a child s education. The program should include multiple instructional activities being consistently implemented in the classroom. The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) determined, 37% of fourth graders read below basic level and much higher in minority groups. (INSERT CITATION) More than 60% of African American and Latino children are below grade level. A variety of instructional activities are needed to teach children to read effectively. • 6. Essay about Beowulf as a Messianic Narrative Beowulf as a messianic narrative has been a subject of great controversy. Given the time period, Christianity was not completely established, and it was entwined with cultural paganism, as seen woven throughout the text. The definition of a messianic narrative (containing the ultimate messianic figure) is found in Isaiah53, a prophecy spoken by God through the Hebrew prophet Isaiah. This is the standard to which Beowulfmust be compared to determination the nature of the poem. Many scholars such as Harold Bloom (quoting E. Talbot Donaldson), Roberta Frank, Rich Lawson, Seamus Heaney, and J. R. R. Tolkien (quoting R. W. Chambers) have critically viewed Beowulf to determine the nature of the epic, resulting in a diverse range of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bloom and Donaldson argue that whilst Christian elements are present, heroic paganism is more prevalent in Beowulf. This is supported by the death of Beowulf, reading, of all the world kings, [he was] keenest for fame, summarising Beowulf, and suggesting his life only amounted to self glorification. In assessing the Christianity of Beowulf, Frank suggests that, like King Alfred did of Remiguis s commentaries, the author of Beowulf used pagan analogies for Christian concepts. Lawson explores this in the role fate has throughout the poem. The Geat prince placed all his trust in...his Maker s favour, Then Beowulf speaks, The Father...shall apportion the honours...to whichever side shall seem to Him fit, . The poet wrote, Fate had not assigned him the glory of battle, . The composer s personification of Fate portrays the place it has taken God s place. Lawson writes of this, The pagan concept of fate...is tied to God, suggesting that Beowulf is resigned to fate, but the author is using this to illustrate the nature of God. Frank also states, What matters is how the rulers...served God s purpose, , also calling Beowulf a, Pagan prince of peace, . While Beowulf demonstrates a pagan trust in fate, Lawson and Frank believe it was the author using paganism to convey the messianic narrative, and that Beowulf was instrumental in doing so. In analysing Beowulf, Lawson concluded it was a messianic narrative including a messianic figure, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the end, it doesn t matter which name is used to refer to the Emerald Isle. To those with Irish heritage, the mere mention of Ireland is enough to evoke many emotions: pride, happiness, nationalism, anger, just to name a few. They feel strongly about the country. It is not just the place where they were born. Love it or hate it, it is home. Dermot Bolger explores the feelings of two Irish in his plays The Holy Ground and In High Germany. • 8. Analyzing Howard Becker s Labeling Theory Labeling Theory The labeling theory is another important theory in the groups of sociological theories. It essentially states that no acts is intrinsically deviant, but rather are established by those in power through the formulation of laws and the interpretation of those laws by police and criminal justice system (Schmalleger, 2014). In other words until someone or a group in society says that XYZ is an illegal act then it is considered non deviant (Schmalleger, 2014). The person associated more often than not with the labeling theory is Howard Becker. Howard Becker in the 1950s used symbolic interactionist approach to study deviance and focused on the way in which negative labels get applied to individuals and on the consequences that this labeling process creates (Becker, n.d.). In his 1950 s book Outsiders, Howard Becker focused his attentions on what he called moral entrepreneurs or those who engage in the process of getting particular behaviors and acts as being deviant and therefore illegal. As an example think about marijuana laws as opposed to laws against alcohol. Smoking marijuana was deemed illegal while alcohol is approved by society (Becker, n.d.). Howard Becker felt that most individuals who were given a label were the misfortune victim of an act deemed deviant and never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This theory has also been criticized for its primary focus on a relatively limited range of behaviors. It lacks the awareness of everyday crime such as property crime. Finally the labeling theory does not say much on those who engage in deviant behavior in secret, or those who are simply never caught committing a crime. So since they are not given a label it stands reasonable to ask if they would continue down the same path of criminality (Schmalleger, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Women s Roles and World War II If you were born right now, this instant, at you re present age without any knowledge about how women used to be treated, the assumption could be made that men and women are basically equal. Yes, men are a little stronger physically, but overall the two sexes are both equal. Things weren t always so picturesque, though. Since people first settled here, on what is now the United Statesof America, women were thought of as inferior. Ever so slowly though, the men s view on women began to change. The change started in the 1920 s but it was going slowly and needed a catalyst. World WarII was that catalyst. Thus where there were men in jobs before, there was nobody and with that women flowed into factories and offices, taking over jobs previously thought that only men could do (Palmer, Colton, p.719). May 22, 1942, will surely go down on the record, predicted the Christian Science Monitor. It was the day that women joined up with the army... It was obvious; the U.S. needed a larger military force. Thus women joined the army within organizations. From there came Oveta Culp Hobby, the director for the first American military organization of women. This organization was called the WAAC (Women s Army Auxiliary Corps). Many people were impressed by the strength of the WAAC and it is said that within three months, the AAF was discussing the possibilities of obtaining more members of the WAAC (Weatherford, p.34). In 1943 there was a U.S. male pilot shortage. In August, the WASPS (Women Airforce Service Pilots), were formed to aid the shortage. For the most part the WASPS weren t used for actually fighting. They were used mainly used for ferrying bomber and fighter planes from factories to airbases. Even in the Airforce, while helping the men, women were still antagonized by the men. • 10. Lab Report On Luciferase Introduction In this experiment, the enzyme Luciferase (Luc) was purified using differential centrifugation, precipitation, and a simplified chromatography procedure, followed by an enzyme activity assay using the enzyme s natural substrate, Luciferin, to confirm the presence of Luc. Luciferase is a 61 kD enzyme naturally found in the tails of fireflies, a member of the Lampyridae family. Luc acts as a catalyst in an oxidation reduction reaction with Luciferin, which allows these insects to exhibit bioluminescence for mating and communication ( Firefly Luciferase, n.d.). In this reaction, Luciferin is adenylated and oxidized to produce Oxyluciferin, along with carbon dioxide, adenosine monophosphate, and light ( Luciferase Mechanism, ... Our group was assigned the firefly head to use as a negative control, while the other was assigned to the tail. The firefly tissue was lysed by grinding with a pestle in the tube (Tube A) both before and after adding 250 L of Lysis buffer (1X PBS with 1% SDS). This mixture was then sonicated for two minutes to complete the lysing process. The tubes were then centrifuged at 1,000 rpm for 3 minutes to remove the large tissue pieces. The supernatant of this tube contained the soluble compounds and proteins that were present in the cytosol of the cells present in the tissue. The supernatant was removed using a micropipette and transferred to a new 1.5 mL Eppendorf tube (Tube B), and the pellet Tube A was discarded. The supernatant in Tube B was then mixed with 1 mL of ice cold acetone in order to separate the proteins from the other compounds present in the aqueous solution. Tube B was spun in the centrifuge at 10,000 rpm for 2 minutes. The resulting supernatant was removed and discarded to isolate the pellet, containing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Analysis Of Stop All The Clocks W. H. Auden s poem, Stop all the clocks, expresses the meaning of massive grief, a tragic loss, and a tireless hopelessness best represented in the last lines, For nothing now can ever come to any good. Personally the mood of the poem felt a bit depressing and a sadness that I know all too well. The title and first line of the poem explains the author s heartbroken grief by including the audience to do something which we all know is not possible, Stop all the clocks. This itself let us know that time could not be stopped, yet when a loved one has pass it feels like at that particular time we don t want to believe that the love of our life is gone. So we want the clocks to stop. The time could also signify to the deathand shortness... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The funeral parade described in lines 7 and 8 serves to further represent both the importance of the deceased and the grief caused by this person s death. The third verse, especially lines 9, 10, and 11, again bring the closeness of the relationship between the author and the deceased. The author shows great respect for this person by using overstatement, figure of speech to imply how important this person meant to the author. In line 9, He was my North, my South, my East and West, indicates the intimacy between the two individuals and incorporated with the next line, My working week and my Sunday rest, indicates their relationship to be of a very devoted nature. This is also stated in line 12, I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong. This can be interpreted to represent the speaker s unawareness toward an inescapable death. The author s love for this man is very rare as he can describe it, to the points of end of time. This love between them is so strong that anyone reading this poem would believe their love will last forever, but as you read on you realize not until the death of this person that he loved; was the realization made that this thing called love, like everything else, must and will come to an end. Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disorder Abstract Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a metabolic disease commonly associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and inflammation all features of insulin resistant syndrome. However, very limited data are available regarding the association of subclinical inflammation and insulin resistance with NAFLD in a prediabetic state. We, therefore, conducted the study to assess this relationship among this population. Methods: We studied a cross sectional analytical design of 140 [male/female, 77/63; age in years (ranges), 45 (25 68)] prediabetic subjects after confirming with 75 g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). The diagnosis of NAFLD was made by ultrasonic examination of the liver and divided into groups of without NAFLD (n = 63) and NAFLD (n = 77). All individuals underwent anthropometric and clinical examinations. Among laboratory investigations, serum glucose was estimated by glucose oxidase method, serum lipid profile and liver enzymes were measured by the enzymatic colorimetric method and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) was measured by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) technique. Serum insulin and high sensitivity C reactive protein (hsCRP) were measured by enzyme immunoassay technique. Insulin resistance (HOMA IR) was calculated by homeostasis model assessment (HOMA). Results: There was significantly higher levels of hsCRP (2.82 В± 1.60 vs. 1.39 В± 0.66 mg/l, P 0.001) and HOMA IR (4.03 В± 1.39 vs. 1.98 В± 1.04, P 0.001) in NAFLD subjects ... • 16. The Violation Of Norm Violations Essay Norm Violations Norm violations are a form of actions that do not seem right to some people. Let s say that you are in a public place, you are expected to act respectful and normal. Norms describes the expectation of a behavior. (James M. Henslin) One can perform a norm violation by doing the opposite of that, like invading personal space. There can be different reactions to violated norms which sociologists call sanctions. (Henslin) Mores, folkways, and values revolve around norms as well. Mores and folkways are two different types of norms. Folkway being one norm that is not really being enforced (Henslin). It can be not smiling when a stranger gives you a smile or, not waving back when someone waves at you. Mores is the opposite of that, it involves something for the most part everyone hates i.e. killing, robbing, raping (Henslin). Specifically it can be a pedophile. One can say that many parents across the United States dislike pedophiles. Parents do not want their kids experiencing getting touched by someone older than them in inappropriately or even worse rape them. Now that would be a negative sanction. Values can be a person s ideal way on how to behave in certain places or their principles, just like ethics, beliefs, or standards (Henslin). Values can vary in cultures or religions as well. One way society has tried to address the issues of global warming is to create products which are more environmentally friendly. These goods are often called natural , green , eco friendly , or they carry other eco labels to tell consumers that they are better for the environment than alternative products. When a consumer walks down the aisle of a shopping market they are bound to see various products that claim to be green or eco friendly . Many large retailers including Target, one of the nation s largest retailers, have exponentially expanded the number of eco labeled products they carry (Harris). • 19. Greenhouse Gas Pollution In the United States, the two largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions are transportation and electricity. Although limiting the emissions from electricity will be important in the future, transportation would be much easier to fix now. Greenhouse gases such as methane, carbon dioxide, water vapor and nitrous oxide not only pollute the air we breathe, but they also store energy that could be causing climate change. These molecules trap heat from leaving our atmosphere which is believed to cause the earths increase in heat. Most Americans see climate change to be an issue that should be acted on, and since greenhouse gases could be causing climate change the emissions of these gases need to be limited. Recent studies show that transportation produces nearly 27% of greenhouse gases in the United States(Sources of Greenhouse Gas Emissions, 2017). In addition, the leading producer within the transportation category is light duty vehicles. Many people say that airplanes and ships are to blame for the majority of greenhouse gas production in transportation, but the majority of the pollution actually comes from the cars Americans drive every day (Fast Facts on Transportation Greenhouse Gas Emissions, 2015). Interracial dating and marriage is a highly controversial topic among the Indian community. In the eyes of most Indians interracial mingling is not acceptable under any circumstances. To be frank, they abhor the thought of their children or fellow Indians dating or even marrying people from other races. Now the big question is why? Why do Indians detest interracial dating and marriage? The answer to this question is not a simple one. For each person it may be a different answer. But the most prominent answer you will receive is that there is a vast cultural difference between races. Indians pride themselves with their culture; it s what makes each Indian who he or she is. So if you try and break that culture you will face issues from all around. Most Indians who marry people of other ethnicities face problems from not only other Indians within their community, but also their own family members. Sadly sometimes the answer to the question, will love be enough to break the barrier, is a no. Assembling In The Iliad Ethan Medley English 2332 877 Professor Brooks 28 September 2017 Assembling in The Iliad (Holding councils of war or holding assemblies) Every great war in history has been determined, to some extent, by the powerful strategies executed by one party of the war. These strategies , most of the time, are not the brainchild of one individual, but more or less a group of people collaborating toward one strategy effective enough to turn the tides of battle. The most effective way for important leaders to voice their opinions for their next endeavor is achieved through the use of assemblies. Assemblies were very important to the armies in the Trojan War , as both sides had great power, meaning that cunning strategy would be the winning factor for one of the parties involved in the Trojan War. However, assemblies held during the Trojan War were more one sided toward the authoritative figures rather than a true collaboration between leaders and wise men. These assemblies follow a simple pattern: a leader calls out to the army to form an assembly when he sees it fit; then, the leaders and wise men then collaborate and voice their opinions on the matter at hand; and finally, the figure with the highest authority in the assembly decides what to do next as a result of the assembly. The assembly begins with an important leader calling for one when he sees it fit to form one. • 34. What Does Darkness Symbolize In The Fall Of The House Of... The Fall Of The House Of Usher is a suspense, novel written by the famous dark romantic Edgar Allen Poe . Poe is a master at making the creepy, even more horrifying by using specific tone. His tone is is the idea of prevailing darkness and pure gloom. Just about everything in this story is draped in darkness to add to his sinister plot. And at no point is there a happy feeling, the plot just keeps dragging the character into a deeper pit of despair. Showing us how there is evil in every one even between siblings. If the product contains a substance that can be oxidized, then it is possible to determine the number of moles of that substance by titrating the sample with a solution of a strong oxidizing agent. In this lab, a solution of KMnO4, an oxidizing agent, will be standardized by titrationwith a solution containing a known concentration of iron (II) ions, (Fe+). Social Darwinism in Cyberpunk Literature Essay In the 1870s, the English sociologist Herbert Spencer applied Charles Darwin s theories of biological evolution to human behavior and institutions. Social Darwinism, as Spencer s theory is called, pits everyone against each other to survive in the world where humans are soldiers in a war for survival. If a person is poor, it is their fault and no one should help that person rise above the poverty status. Deirdre has been the primary nurse for 6 hemodialysis patients. She has involved patients and families in monthly interdisciplinary meetings to promote self efficacy and quality of life. With the help of the interdisciplinary team Deirdre has worked collaboratively to address and reinforce nutritional needs, social/family issues, barriers to care, and safety concerns. All of her primary care patients have maintained a goal of 100% for dialysisadequacy (benchmark is 85%) and a vascular access rate of 100% and dictated by KDOQI standards. Deirdre noted a downward trend of a veteran pts access. With quick intervention the access resulted in a patent access with better clearances for this patient, and the preservation of the dialysis access. During the transitioning process to the new hemodialysis unit, Ms. Conlon anticipated the challenges acquired by learning to set up and use new water equipment in an acute situation. In response to this, Ms. Conlon created and implemented a reverse osmosis flow sheet to assist her colleagues with the quick set up of the portable RO in the ICU care setting. This tool resulted in a smoother transition for her colleagues, improvement in the delivery of care to the acute dialysis patient, and a decrease in the possibility of staffing overtime. She created a flow sheet used by the nurses to import data useful for review at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The value of objective and subjective evidence in understanding mental health conditions It is important to consider both subjective and objective evidences to gain a comprehensive picture of any mental health condition. I am going to demonstrate through examples how parallel considerations can be used by clinicians to gain a full understanding of mental health disorders. Subjective evidence is how the patient interprets the working of his own mind. It includes what he reports about his thoughts and feelings including any uncomfortable sensations or distressing thoughts. Objective evidence on the other hand is measurable. It comprises of any signs of the illness that can be observed by a third person and any abnormality that has a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He takes into consideration not only the patient s mental state but also the patient s general physical health, psychosocial or environmental problems, their ability to integrate into society and take care of themselves. Subjective evidence includes the thoughts and feelings of the patient. It comprises of the symptoms the patient is reporting and the level of distress he is experiencing. A patient suffering from depression for example might report symptoms of having dark thoughts, feeling blue, can complain of persistent low mood, outbursts of crying, decreased appetite and activity levels, lack of sleep. These are all examples of subjective evidence. Objective evidence about the condition includes any signs noticeable to the clinician that can be taken as an indication of mental disease. This can include slumped posture, poor hygiene, scruffy appearance, sadness, crying, sighing or pacing. Lack of appetite can be a symptom a depressed person is complaining about, while the amount of weight loss is measurable and objective. Aches, pains and flulike symptoms may not have any biological basis in the body but can be psychosomatic manifestations of the depression. Moreover depression usually accompanies many severe, long term conditions. During the psychological assessment the clinician gathers all information about a patient s medical health and mental health history, collects information from immediate family members, looks ... • 54. The High Antioxidant Qualities Of The Muscadine Grapes My... In a quest to explore Christianity, Marshall Petersen began visiting the Sunday school with the encouragement of his wife. I am his Sunday school teacher and upon further communication, I informed him of the high antioxidant qualities of the Muscadine grapes my family s produce company sells, and I asked him if he might be interested in promoting either the grapes themselves or the various products developed using their seeds. He was interested. The grapes became a hot commodity and over six months, he paid for orders and delivery has been prompt, and no issues about payments even though they can be 15 to 30 days late. During one of the deliveries, Marshall made my son signed a contract that includes a guaranteed price schedule consistent with what he had been paying. Marshall told him that it was just a formality to guarantee a continuing business relationship. The signing of that contract established a formal business agreement between the two companies. Our business transactions were running perfectly, we were trying to meet the demand for our product, and until recently when a company in Texas offered to pay me twice the going rate for my products. I informed Marshall as I don t want to leave him out to dry. He was very angry and he told me that he expects me to continue to supply him with all the product he needs, when he needs it, and at the prices he had always paid, per the requirements contract between our businesses and in accordance with an implied duty of ... • 55. Virtuoso Comparison Essay At the time when people s moral codes are slackening, a community is in need of spiritual guidance more than ever. That was why Virtuoso was founded in the first place. Just like all other religions, Virtuoso is against violence and embraces humanity at its heart. Nevertheless, there are major similarities and differences that are also need to be addressed. Virtuoso, by definition, is a practice of faith that focuses on spiritual growth and harmony with nature. It shares the same monotheistic structure with Hinduism, where there s only 1 all powerful God(Brahmin) that results in a plurality of forms, also known as the deities . In Virtuoso, Mother Nature is the center of worship, and she comes in 4 distinct forms: Ignis (Fire), Aqua (Water), Aer (Air) and Terra (Earth). Each deity is a gender neutral divine being that symbolizes Willpower, Wisdom, Love, and Integrity, respectively. Despite having different systems of beliefs (2), Children of Virtues and Buddhists still have 1 thing held in common. They both put emphasis on spiritual growth and certain aspects of kindness throughout their preaching especially on generosity and giving up on material possessions. In fact, this is clearly demonstrated by the rule that each Child of Virtue would need to submit 20% of their annual income to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of them is the perception of science. The contrary between Science and Religion seems neverending. In fact, as a religious group who promotes Mother Nature as a living entity, Science goes against almost every tenant of our belief. Nonetheless, Children of Virtue are taught to judge everything with an opened mindset. Hence, instead of discriminating it (like what a lot of Christians have done to Charles Darwin s Theory of Evolution), we choose to treat Science as another practice of faith that is completely irrelevant to ...
