2. Analyzing Bert Williams Song Nobody
Bert Williams, a popular Vaudeville performer was the bestselling African American artist before
1920. The song Nobody was Williams most popular song that he sang. It is said that Williams
referred to the song as both a blessing and a curse, because he was almost always commanded to
perform the song. It is no secret that African Americans were largely and disgracefully
discriminated against during the entire nineteenth century. Bert Williams was one of the most
famous African American performers during the Minstrel era that many referred to as the Jackie
Robinson of early Vaudeville entertainment. He appeared in the first African American
Broadway
show, was the first African American member of the legendary Ziegfeld s Follies, and was... Show

The story of his life is riddled with tragedy. When he wrote the song Nobody, I imagine that
Williams had no idea of what success he had in store, or that he would be so revered by so many
people of all different races. He truly was a pioneer for African American entertainment. The song
Nobody was written in 1905 during the time that African Americans were rarely allowed on stage
with white people. If an African American was ever seen on stage in shows performing, it was
usually a white actor/performer in Blackface or Cork as they call it; but strangely, African
Americans were only allowed to appear if they were painted in Blackface or Cork . To me, it
would have taken extreme dedication to the arts to have been faced with such discrimination, to
be forced to perform in blackface, and perform despite the prejudices. The song Nobody must
have encapsulated what Williams was feeling at the time. That Nobody cared for him. What a sad
state to be in. To me Bert Williams personifies what was going on in our nation at the time with
racism. To me, the song Nobody was not about just him. The way African Americans were treated
during this period, was

3. Article Analysis Of The North Korean Missile Launch
North Korean Missile Launch
After reading the articles about the North Korean missile launch on August 29th of 2017, Both
news sources portray bias in their own particular ways but Fox news seems to side. Fox states a
quote from Trump talking about all options are on the table due to the fact that North korea just shot
a missile over Japan. He talks about how the world is getting the message from North korea is
threatening. The misle showed that it could reach Guam if it really wanted to. Where the
Washington Post states that Trump and the President of Japan spoke about how they need to put
more pressure on North Korea due to their actions. Due to the test they did it looks aggressive to
Washington, Seoul and Tokyo. The pentagon is doing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The one that used more quotes was the Washington Post which from doing some research is a
democratic source. Which is why I think they used more quotes on what Trump had to say about
the situation to make it seem worse than it really was. Where Fox just got right to the point of what
was going on about the missile launch.
One thing that I noticed that was really strange about both articles were how similar the title and
the start of the articles were to each other. The titles are almost the exact same the word choice is
used a little differently but very similar. As for the start of each article they both start off with
the exact same line with President Trump said Tuesday that all options are on the table . Then
briefly after that get into the main subject of their stories. The washington post provided a
picture of trump right at the top of the article as well as a video of trump talking about the event
and a video of the missile being launched by north korea. Where Fox only provided one video of
just 2 males talking about the event. All of these are very different from each other and both are
setting different tones and giving setting a bias tone in my opinion.
The articles both had very different sources on where they got their information for the article. Fox
news claims that the associated press contributed to the report. Where on the other hand the
Washington Post got there sources

4. Being Prey Short Story
Stay on the path! From, altering the future, to getting attacked by a crocodile, staying on the path is
crucial. In Being Prey and A Sound of Thunder the protagonists, the setting, and the theme all
changed the outcome of the story. I will compare and contrast all of these literary elements to prove
why you should stay on the path.
The settings of both stories were very dangerous. The Sound of Thunder is in a prehistoric time
with dinosaurs, That Mr. Travis pointed is the jungle of sixty million, two thousand, fifty five
years before President Keith . Being Prey is in a present day marsh that is abundant with
crocodiles, There are the crocodiles, lots of them along the river. The Sound of Thunder was
untouched by humans while Being Prey was a little bit touched or altered by humans. Both stories
were different and similar but dangerous at the same time. The protagonists of both stories had a
trait that ultimately got them in grave trouble. In both stories there was a path that for some
reason or another the protagonist wanders off of. Eckels not looking back, walked blindly to the
edge of the path, his gun limp in his arms, stepped off the path, Eckels was petrified and ended up

5. The Ocean Of The Sky
Most often when a person gazez into the sky, during broad daylight, they see a whole array of
wonders. They see clouds; the faint wisp of the newly formed cloud, gently finding substance
within itself, or maybe the long lived cloud, traveling miles with the wind. They see the sun;
either on its own, glaringly bringing light to an entire half of our planet, or through the trees,
peeking through every single direct pathway to the eye it can find. They see blue; the ocean
reflecting with immense entirety onto the atmosphere. Most see much, much more than that,
and I know this because for the larger half of my life I was a part of this creative, insightful
majority. But then the tiny, insignificant half of my life suddenly began on one random day. On
that day, when gazing into the day sky, I could see nothing. Nothing at all. Not the fantastically
shaped clouds. Not the enormous light of the sun. Not the ocean in the sky. I saw in the abyss
above me a suffocating reality of what would soon be me; a very large and undeniable nothing.
When asking the average person how they feel about doctors, hospitals, nurses, basically any
person or thing even remotely associated with the medical field, they will likely use words
closely related to the word nightmare. Most people have this judgment based on small fears or
bad experiences, but I now understand why it is such a hated field. You enter the hospital and all
you see is sickness. Everything is sick, horrifyingly sick. The doors

6. The Importance Of Hardy Weinberg Equilibrium
Prior to 1908, scientists were unable to consider a single gene in a diploid organism let alone
being able to determine its proportions. Luckily two very important individuals, Godfrey Hardy
and Wilhem Weinberg, combined forces and derived a theorem to calculate equilibrium in allele
frequencies. Today, this theorem is referred to as Hardy Weinberg Equilibrium. In one Cell Journal
article, the importance of such a theorem is describe as, Population based genetic association
studies have proven to be a powerful tool in identifying genes implicated in many complex human
diseases that have a huge impact on public health. An essential quality control step in such studies
is to undertake Hardy Weinberg equilibrium (HWE) calculations... Show more content on

For the purpose of this experiment, I propose that if a population experiences forces such as genetic
drift, selection, and non random mating combined, then the fittest allele will express dominance,
leading to elimination of alternative alleles, and an extreme decrease in population size. Each
scenario was run through the Koi Fish pond simulation and then finally all run together to compare
how each force works on their own and then when combined.
Methods:
To simulate the introduction of genetic drift, selection, and non random mating into a population,
www.virtualbiologylab.org, specifically the PopGen Fish Pond was used. This simulator allows
experiments to be conducted online without the need of anything tangible besides a computer. The
website specifically describes the simulator as simulating natural environment with the way life
responds to changing conditions . Within the simulator, parameters and conditions can be adjusted
to model the population with the forces accordingly. For this experiment, parameters were set as
follows: initial size 50, carrying capacity 50, rr 1, Rr 0.5, RR 0.5, strength of assortment 0.6. The
remaining parameters were left as they were set by the simulator.

I completed my service learning at The Arbors of Bedford, a nursing home for older adults
suffering with memory loss due to dementia. Their mission is to care for the whole person in a
manner that promotes freedom, choice and the opportunity to live a meaningful life (n.a., 2017).
The Arbors of Bedford promotes a therapeutic environment by creating an open and welcome
environment and by giving the residents as much choice in their lives as possible. For example,
they can choose whether to sit by the window in a seat by themselves, or in a living room chair
with a group of people. There is usually a television or music playing in one section, while another
section is quiet which allows the residents to choose the setting that is best for them. They host a
variety of activities that focus on different therapy areas. The activities offered include listening to
spiritual hymns, tai chi, craft designs, piano performances, and invention trivia. These components
together, along with a caring and competent staff, allow The Arbors of Bedford to fulfill their
mission statement. In order to develop a therapeutic relationship with the residents I use active
listening skills to communicate effectively with them and I practice empathy to make them feel
understood. There is one resident at my site who is

8. Chiari Malformation Research Paper
There are 4 different types of Chiari malformations. Type 1 is the most common and occurs when
the cerebellar tonsil is found below the forman magnum; usually affecting older children or adults
and is the only type of malformation that can be acquired. Type II involves both the brainstem and
cerebellum below the forman magnum, this type is usually associated with other diseases such as
spina bifidaand myelomeningocele. This is usually found in children and this type is responsible for
the name Arnold Chiari malformation. Type III is the most severe it results in the cerebellum and
the brainstem producing a pouch like structure that protrudes from the back of the head and upper
neck. This pouch contains brain matter and causes severe neurological deficits. Finally, Type IV is
extremely uncommon and involves the complete underdevelopment of the cerebellum ( Different ,
n.d.).
There are several causes that can be associated with a Chiari malformation. Some of those causes
are associates with a structural defect of the spinal cord during fetal development, injury, or even a
lack of nutrients provided to the fetus during development. The cause associated with injury can be

most common symptoms are posterior headache on exertion with neck pain, hoarseness or

symptoms that are associated with it and other diseases as well. For instance, the symptom that is

9. The Effect Of Glass On Everyday Life
3.Discussion
3.1.Effect of Glass on Everyday Life
Mirrors and their applications were pivotal in the development of the sciences of optics, chemistry
and astronomy (Rasmussen, 2012). It has even been said that the Renaissance and the Scientific
Revolution might not have happened if not for the invention of mirrors (MacFarlane, 2002).
Eyeglasses have been said to be one of the greatest inventions ever because without them, people
born with poor vision not only find performing daily tasks much more difficult, but would also be
severely constrained in terms of the amount of education they can receive and thus in their life
opportunities.
This is further underlined when one takes into account the fact that approximately 6 out of 10
people in the world today either wear glasses, contact lenses, or have previously undergone
corrective eye surgery. Even for those born with good vision, they typically lose their ability to
focus by their mid 40s, which means that eyeglasses have considerably lengthened the intellectual
lifespan of a person. The impact of eyeglasses on society thus cannot be understated.

science. The modern discoveries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

10. Gender And Gender Socialisation
Socialisation is a term used to refer to the lifelong process of inheriting and disseminating norms,
customs and ideologies providing the individual with the skills and habits necessary for
precipitating within one s society, thus the means by which social and cultural continuity are
attained (Boundless.com, 2015). The process of socialisation involves an individual such as an
adolescent having interactions with various agents of socialisation. Agents of socialisation are
groups or institutions that play a crucial role in providing an individual with social and cultural
skills in accordance with the social norms and standards of the society one is located in (Brian
Furze, 2014). Socialisation contains two concepts, Primary and Secondary socialisation. Primary
socialisation is a concept that involves usually a family s influence over an individual during
childhood; this process supports one to attain essential skills necessary to function in society as a
child (Brian Furze, 2014). Secondary socialisation is a process that occurs after childhood and
involves interactions with agencies other than family such as; schools peer groups, media etc...
(Brian Furze, 2014). Gendersocialisation is the process of how individuals are socialised into
behaviours of the ascribed sex at birth and is the process of socialising into gender roles (Giddens,
1993). Gender Identityinvolves an individual s perception of his or hers gender which usually
correlates with ascribed status such as

The Impact of Nutrition and Sleep Upon the Learning Process
The effects of nutrition can begin before birth, with the nutrition of the mother. Under nutrition can
result in negative effects of the development of the brain that can become permanent and

iron deficiency is present nerve impulses tend to move slower. Iron deficiency...is associated with

An increase in poverty contributes to the lack of nutritional care within low birth weight children.
The rise in poverty and how it has affected young ones:
The rise in poverty has led to the increase in nutritional needs for young ones.
Children who live in low income housing tend to be under nutrition which results in lost of
knowledge, brain power and productivity. The children s ability to learn in school fails because of
diminished attention spans and memory due to the lack of nutrition.
Many school districts have tried to improve low income children s learning by providing
programs such as the School Breakfast Program. The School Breakfast Program is a wonderful
program that allows children to receive the nutrition they need. It is shown that children who
participate in school breakfast have lower rates of absence and tardiness (Nutrition for Learning,
2004). Children who have eaten breakfast also tend to show a general increase in math and reading
scores. Unable to distinguish among similar images, increase in error and slower memory recall are
all associated with children who skip breakfast. Overall, the effects of breakfast program
participation on school related outcomes, such as student achievement, cognition, attendance, and
psychosocial measures (Designs for Measuring How the School Breakfast Program Affect..., 2000)
have shown to be positive outtakes from the School Breakfast Program. The only

13. Mycenaean Civilization Essay
Mycenaean Civilization
The Mycenaean civilization flourished for four hundred years in the late Bronze Age before
collapsing in to small bands of subsistence farmers. Some historians attribute this decline to the Sea
People who terrorized the Egyptians, Anatolians and the Hittites. But could a mysterious people
who left no archeological proof of their existence really bring about the collapse of entire
civilizations?
Mycenaean civilization is characterized by the large palace like buildings that they created. These
huge structures contained dozens of rooms used for a variety of purposes.
The rooms were used for everything from industry to meeting places and even sleeping quarters.
The main function of these palatial buildings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Greek warriors depicted on Ramses III reliefs demonstrate that Mycenaean must have been
carrying out raids . The Mycenaean economy depended on surplus in order to trade. To maintain
that surplus, their society had to always be expanding. This made their social structure somewhat
delicate and it eventually led to its collapse. The collapse was not because of a single invasion
though, many factors led to it. Mycenaean civilization collapsed because of its overdependence on
trade and its inherent aggressive nature and was catalyzed by invasions and natural disaster.
The most common reason that historians give for the decline of Mycenaean civilization is that
they were invaded by foreign peoples. The two most common people that are credited with this are
the Dorians and the Sea People. The Dorians moved in to Greece from the north west in the late
Bronze Age. Coarse pots, not as artfully crafted as Mycenaean pots, have been found in
Korakou, Asine, and Mycenae . These pots have been found alongside Mycenaean IIIC pots and
is evidence that the Dorians arrived in small waves and were integrated in to Mycenaean society .
The Dorians were not terrible invaders that brought about the end of Mycenaean society, instead
they were immigrants. The term Sea People seems to apply to many different tribes of men.

14. Essay on Kinghthood
Knighthood
Knighthood and chivalry. The terms are often confused, and often pointlessly distinguished. The
term knighthood comes from the English word knight (from Old English, servant or boy) while
chivalry comes from the French chevalerie, from chevalier or knight. In modern English, chivalry
means the ideals, virtues, or characteristics of knights. But in actuality, the phrases quot;orders of
chivalry quot; and quot;orders of knighthood quot; are essentially synonymous.
Succinctly, a knight was a professional soldier. Professional armies had replaced the old citizens
armies of the distant past. This trend was reinforced by the appearance in the 8th century of the
stirrup, which made mounted men much more powerful and turned ... Show more content on

On the contrary to this not so balanced father, son relationship, heredity enters the knightly class in
the 13th century. The son of a knight is automatically a squire, thus making him eligible for
knighthood on the basis of his ancestry.
Men who were free provided military service, either personally or (if they were rich enough)
using others services. Thus, a man who held his estate in knight s fee owed service as a knight to
his lord. A more sizeable vassal, when called by his liege, would summon his knights and form a
contingent in his liege s army.
In the late 13th century, a decision of the Parliament in Paris forbade the count of Artois from
making unfree men into knights without the king s consent; interesting to note, the two men who
had been so knighted were allowed to remain knights subject to the payment of a fine. Knighthood
did not become a hereditary class in England, and instead the knightly class (those eligible to be
knights) became the nucleus of the gentry.
As a military institution, knighthood was on the wane from the late 13th century on. The end of
feudal society meant that sovereigns gained a monopoly on war making, and the old form of
military service owed to one s immediate lord became obsolete. Kings still summoned their knights
for wars, but increasingly they turned to other sources of manpower, namely mercenaries whose
use became common in the 14th

While the subject of My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke has spurred passionate academic debate
from professors, scholars, and students alike, the imagery, syntax, and diction of the poem clearly
support the interpretation that Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz as a loving relationship between an
imperfect father and young son.
Roethke s word choice focuses on the mixed emotions he feels towards his father. Although the
combination of the words death and waltzing in the first stanza, the poet describes a serious but
amusing atmosphere around him and his father. The image of a waltz illustrates the requirement of
two individuals to show the closeness of the pair. At the same time, Roethke loves his father, but
he also expresses fear. The poet shows this fear through the use of words as battered and scraped. ...

BASIC FACTS The oil on canvas Tears of Joy in the Garden of Giants by Michael Zancan was
created in south west France back in January of 2011. This surreal artist plunges into his fantasies
creating mystical worlds filled with vivid hues and outstanding details. A long process awaited this
particular piece. During one of his travels, the first draft got misplaced at a metro station for many
months. Filled with hope, Zancan continued his research of varying structural forms that 1900 s
dome glasshouses used in order to incorporate them into his masterpiece. Fortunately, he found
architectural inspiration within the walls of The Grand Palais in Paris. A digital paintingwas drafted
using the old sketch he had initially lost in the metro and on, December 2005 the first draft was
ready for critique. This digital prototype served as a guide for the 120 by 200 cm oil on canvas.
On to the drawing board! Fascinated by the vivid world, Zancan gave two additional coats of oil
on the art to enhance the painting s contrast before its final reveal. To this day, the original canvas
remains by romantic s side in France. Zancan is strategic, he wants to increase his popularity seeing
that, his art s value will growth along with it. In addition, high quality prints can be obtained and

The Importance of Brown V. The Board of Education To understand the importance of Brown V.
The Board of Education of Topeka, one must take into account the gravity of the prevailing law
and attitude that existed in 1954. In 1896, the Supreme Court established the separate but equal

In fact a series of cases from Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia and Delaware all found their way
to the Supreme Court. But a distinguished attorney with the NAACP named Thurgood Marshall
brought Linda Browns case to prominence. By this time, Thurgood Marshall was an
experienced Supreme Court advocate. He had already challenged all white primary elections in
Smith V. Allwright, and restrictive covenants in Shelley V. Kraemer. His style was
straightforward and plainspoken. He held no punches and got to his point without a lot of
dramatics. When asked for a definition of the word equal by Justice Felix Frankfurter, Marshall
replied, Equal means getting the same thing, at the same time, and in the same place. 2 This was
the basis of his case. Chief Justice Earl Warren presided over the case, and on May 17, 1954

that; separate education facilities are inherently unequal 3 and that racial segregation violates the
equal protection clause of the 14th amendment, thus overruling the Plessy case. Many Americans

20. William Damon s The Death Of Honesty
William Damon s The Death of Honesty presents a solemn analysis of the decline of modern
virtue due to a dysfunctional tipping point where honesty is no longer viewed as a moral
characteristic worthy of pursuing. Dishonesty is presented as both a virtue and a vice that is
shaping our contemporary society. The Hoover Institution of Stanford University published Mr.
Damon s article in 2012 under the Task Force on the Virtues of a Free Society, which would
provide a target audience of students, educators, parents or anyone with an interest in sociology,
specifically in the United States. A rhetorical analysis recognizes the appeals of ethos and pathos
as successful tools in creating a connection with the readers, yet it exposes flaws in the author s
appeal of logic. The lack of developed logic does not support his thesis that sustained civilization is
in lethal danger as a result of dishonesty alone.
The appeal of ethos is based on personal and academic achievement. As a senior fellow and
professor of Stanford University with a background in child development and psychology, Mr.
Damon has the experience to write on the subject of character development of children, as well as
the failings of the academic world. Writing in the online volume of Stanford University s
Endangered Virtues further validates the author s authority to speak on the subject. As a father, Mr.
Damon would have a vested interest in the ability of the school system to influence his children.

21. Why I Want To Be An Exchange Student Essay
I was born in a middle class family. My father and my mother are both teachers in the same high
school. I have always seen education as a big part of one s life. I think I am a hard working
person. I always get good grades. I feel like that was all I cared when I was young. At the age of
14, I had my first determination in my life. I wanted to be an exchange student. I love to learn new
things such as languages and cultures. And being exchange student seemed to be a perfect idea. At
the age of 15 when I was a 10th grade student I became an AFS exchange student going to Hungary.
I have my best experience there. I have 2 lovely host families and a lot of friends from around the
world. Being exchange student gave me an opportunity to learn a new language which is
Hungarian. I completed the Hungarian language test, and I got 74% on the elementary level. I
basically can communicate in Hungarian. When I was there I had chances to visit many countries
in Europe such as Finland, Romania, Slovakia, Austria, and Germany. When I came back to

Rome has grown since its humble beginnings that it is now overwhelmed by its own greatness.
Titus Livius (59 BC 17 AD). The fall of the Roman Empire is one of the most well known events
in history. However, as thoroughly as it may be studied very few people know the many reasons
for the fall of this empire. This paper s intent is to argue that there are two major internal and two
major external reasons for the fall of this massive empire. Although the Romans were known for
the spread of Christianity, we see that all good things must come to an end. Before discussing why
Romefell we must introduce the time, place, events and people that were a part of it. The Roman

To understand how the expansion of Rome led to its fall we must first look at how much
territory was truly under the control of the empire. Firstly, in 291 BC after the Samnite Wars,
the Roman Empire colonized the Samnite City of Venosa. In 29 BC, Moesia (modern day
Serbia) was added to Rome. Furthermore, in 16 BC Raetia and Noricum (modern day Austria
and Slovenia) were conquered and added to Rome. In 17 BC, Tiberius expanded his territory to
the province of Syria. In addition, Claudius , in 43 AD added Lycia (modern day Turkey) into
the Roman Empire as a province. Now that we comprehend how large Rome really was, we can
explain how it led to the fall of the empire. As Rome continued to expand more and more, it
became difficult to rule and to have a constant military presence. Even though Rome had already
established an excellent road system, it was still difficult to transmit a message from the capital to
all the provinces, ultimately this became one of the main reasons that the Roman Empire

controlling the people or using them for their own amusement. An example of this would be

27. Solving the Foreclosure Crisis Essay
The Foreclosure Crisis is the direct effect of the mortgage crisis that became apparent in 2007, so
in order to solve the current crisis we must tackle the cause, not just the symptoms. The issue at the
heart of the mortgage crisis is that in most cases the cost of the mortgage has risen above the
market value of the home, trapping the homeowner. To solve the crisis both in the short term and to
prevent similar crises in the long term, steps must be taken to achieve two broad goals: make
mortgages affordable by regulating mortgages and mortgageproviders and lowering interest rates,
and stabilize the market value of homes by increasing demand and decreasing supply.
In the past, governmental regulations on banks and mortgage lenders ... Show more content on

These actions will protect debtors from unjust rates and will ultimately protect creditors from
defaults on their loans.
The next essential regulatory act is to limit the size of mortgages. A regulation should be put in
place that prohibits the granting of a mortgage that is over 100% of the market value of house. In
the past, when house prices were rising it seemed safe to take out a mortgage higher than the value
of a house, but that is a root cause of all mortgage crises. The economy naturally grows and shrinks
and so does the market value of a house. When mortgages represent more than the market value of
the collateral and the value of the house drops, homeowners cannot sell their house for the
equivalent of the principal and if the homeowner cannot make payments, foreclosure or bankruptcy
are the only options. This clearly limits the lenders, but it is a necessary regulation to protect
lenders from losing money. In the case of a foreclosure in which the mortgage is worth more than
the collateral, the lender suffers the difference and risks its own bankruptcy. While this regulation
may seem to hurt lenders, truly it protects them.
Debtors who are close to foreclosure should have further rights protected by law. In the case where
a debtor cannot make their monthly payments due to financial situations beyond their control, they
should have the right to renegotiate for lower payments through

Groups such as the Masons, the Church of Scientology, and political parties can be considered cults
that share different ideologies. In addition, cults have the ability to influence society in terms of
changing an individual s perspective on certain things. Furthermore, people seem to show a strong
interest in the mysteries behind cults despite the dangerous aspect of joining a cult. Over the years,
the number of individuals joining cults has increased. To understand this a bit more, Dr. Adrian

Furnham argues the motives behind joining a cult, the different characteristics of a cult, and the
misconceptions that individuals have in their initial encounter with a cult.
Dr. Furnham analyses the reasons why individuals join cults. In his initial assessment, he argues

In the early 1940 s, foreign films were made and created an important impact to filmmaking all
around the world. Foreign films allowed viewers to see different cultures and traditions of other
countries. Most of these films were shot in black and white with subtitles to go along against the
background. They were sometimes grainy and did not have as good sound quality as Hollywood
films had because they were produced with such a small budget. This transition of new camera
techniques and editing began to end the Production Code era and started what was known as the
neorealism movement in Italy. Films with subtitles are not very mainstream nowadays, although,
people loved foreign films with subtitles post war because mostly everyone was reading
newspapers, letters and books during that generation. These foreign films were often played in art

dimensions individually and clearly detect primary comparisons and contrasts of this model. Key

Geert Hofstede defines national culture as the collective programming of the mind distinguishing

The penultimate research of national culture referring to the study of value dimensions was
conducted by Michael Harris Bond. Bond carried out further exploration among a group of students
by leading a survey developed by Chinese professors, undertaken in 23 countries. This factor was
called long term orientation, which then resolved in becoming the fifth cultural dimension.
By 2010 the model was completed after a final two more dimensions were added, named
pragmatism and indulgence. The research carried out was conducted by Michael Minkov, who
studied modern World Values Survey data taken from population samples nationally. Author Robert
R.McCrae supports Hofstede s dimensions by believing that they represent a well validated
operationalization of differences between cultures as manifested in dominant value systems
(McCrae, 2004). However, as studied on the Geert Hofstede website, only 6 dimensions are needed
and necessary in defining culture attributes, resulting in pragmatism being dropped because of
overlapping of meanings with long term orientation.
Firstly, Hofstede s interpretation of power distance in comparing cultures is that it expresses the
amount by which a smaller amount of authoritative members of a civilisation agree and assume that
power in a culture is dispersed unequally.

35. Comfort Zone Definition Zones
Someone once said Great things never come from comfort zones. That is basically saying that if
people have a comfort zone they won t fully be able to enjoy the things that make them happy.
With comfort zones it holds people back from becoming the best. The dictionary states that
comfort zones are a place or situation where one feels safe or at ease without stress . Relief ,
soothe , and ease are just some of the synonyms of this phrase. Discomfort , stress , and
unhappiness are some of the antonyms of this word. Comfort zones make one feel happy or safe,
and they tend to go back to that place or state of mind when times get hard. Most people don t
have a very large comfort zonewhich means they are scared to do stuff that scares them, they don
t take risks. All of these people were forced to go out of their comfort zone because they didn t
believe in what was going on, they wanted to make a change, or just simply because they wanted
to be remembered as something more. There are more good things about not having a comfort zone
vs having a comfort zone. The good thingis that people who don t have a comfort zone never are
afraid to do anything they re not comfortable with. The people that have a comfort zone are afraid
to do anything. The first example is Temple Grandin, she was a woman with autism that was

young boys will be influenced by both the positive and negative aspects of their lives. This is
clearly evident through the boys attitude towards smoking and the types of clothing they each wear.
Throughout the film, the boys are continually imitating Ace and his gang to gain respect amongst
the older boys.
The treehouse scene is a very significant scene in terms of understanding how the boys are growing
up. Through both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The gun is a motif in this film and represents the death of Ray Brewer and the protection which
he did not have. Similarly, it could also represent the safety which the four boys didn t have in
their lives. It also refers to the significance of guns to American s and their right to keep and bear
arms. The director, Rob Reiner has used a close up camera angle to show the expression on
Gordy and Chris s face. The excitement on their faces gives the idea that they have never seen a
gun before, and hence are growing up due to this new experience. As a result of these new
experiences, the boys are becoming more aware and vulnerable to the would around them. This is
also evident when the boys return back to Castle Rock after their journey. They find their home
town a little smaller compared to when they left and this is because they have matured and grown

39. Erikson s Eight Stages Of Psychosocial Development
When I look back to my transition to college and how my family has supported me throughout
my life, I realized that many developmental theories could apply. In Erikson s Eight Stages of
Psychosocial Development, he uses different ranges of age to portray one s crises and dilemmas
in various stages of life (Bjorklund, 2015). As an 18 year old college student, I feel connected to
the fifth stage of Erikson s Stages of Psychosocial Development: Identity versus Role Confusion.
In the fifth stage, Erikson describes that during the ages 13 18, most teens are transitioning to
young adults and this is the stage in human development where they are trying to find their
identity in their occupation, gender/sex role, religion, and politics (Bjorklund, 2015). Either they
have found their identity or they have failed to find their identity which leads into a role
confusion. During my transition into college, I experienced an identity crisis for not knowing
what I wanted to study or pursue as a career. Before I came to college, I was considering a career
in Math and I thought I knew what I wanted to study. However, as I grew older and saw different
perspectives of my intended career as a college student, I changed my mind. Although I have begun
to answer some of these questions about gender roles, religion, and politics, I am still uncertain of
my occupational identity. Although Erikson s stages of human development might have fit with the
expectations in his generation, I think his

40. Albert Bandura Theory
As the pioneering social learning theorist in the 1960s, Albert Bandura refuted the common belief
that studying thoughts and emotions was unscientific. He was adamant that although one could not
see these internal processes, they were still important to study. He has proven that to understand
children, we must first understand their cognitive processes and the ways in which they think and
reason. In my opinion, one of Bandura s most underrated theories is his study of the effects that
exposure to violencehas on children. I believe that it has shaped the way many of us think about
what children are witnessing, and is vital in this time where most children have constant access to
technology.
Bandura extensively studied modeling; he believed that children learn by watching. This applies
to a variety of circumstances. For example, children learn how to behave in a social setting by
watching the interactions of their peers. Children also learn through symbolic models, like stories
and television. He also proposed the idea of no model learning; a child can watch someone else do
something and replicate it perfectly on their first try, without ever having been formally taught. In
what seems to me like a natural progression of thought, Bandura next wondered that if children
absorb what they are seeing effortlessly, how are they be affected by seeing negative things, such
as violence or rough behavior?
In Theories of Development, William Crain (2005) describes a study Bandura conducted in
1965. Four year olds were individually shown a movie with one of three endings. In all three,
the model beat up a Bobo doll. In the first, the model was praised and rewarded for doing this. In
the second, the model was reprimanded and punished for his actions. And in the third, the model
was neither rewarded nor punished. The children were put in a room with a Bobo doll. Those
who had seen the first and third versions of the movie imitated the model many more instances
that those who had seen the second version. This indicates that while seeing a model punished
will make an activity less desirable, and seeing a model rewarded will made it more desirable,
seeing the model neither punished nor rewarded will make the activity just as

42. Bowen Family s System Theory And Structural Family Theory...
Introduction
According to Bowen, we have less autonomy in our emotional lives than we like to think. Most of
us are more reactive to one another than we realize. Bowen s theory describes how family, as a
multigenerational network of relationships, shapes the interplay of individuality and togetherness,
using five interlocking concepts differentiation of self, multigenerational emotional processes,
emotional cutoff, and societal emotional processes (Nichols Davis, 2017). It is the nature of a family
that its members are intensely connected emotionally. Often people feel separate or disengaged
from their family, but this is more feeling than fact. Families so profoundly affect their members
thoughts, feelings, and actions that it often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The change in my family s dynamic created significant emotional problems for the entire family,
however, I was especially affected as she turned her emotional needs from my father towards me
as I was the oldest child. My mother became extremely needy and overly dependent. She
excessively relied on my emotional support which precipitated an enormous amount of anxiety.
She was so preoccupied with spending time with me she hardly ever made time for herself nor
time for her marriage that was on the rock. Essentially, her emotional reaction as a result of my
father s absence created significant changes in her parenting style. My mother was often
demanding, critical, and resentful about anything I wanted to do outside the family which
impeded my need for self autonomy and independence as a developing adolescent. I hardly ever
hung out with friends and she repeatedly made excuses why it was not feasible. I often felt
trapped as well as lethargic in view of my limited outside socialization and limited participation in
outside of the family activities. Most of the time, I was compelled to discard my own personal
desires and objectives to placate my mother s needs which precipitated a significant amount of
anxiety. I tried to convey my feelings, but both of my parents simply minimized them as
disrespectful and inconsiderate. They both frequently accused me of being
