More Specifically, I Am Very Interested In Increasing Female
More specifically, I am very interested in increasing female enrollment in STEM in my college due to
the low enrollment in computer science and engineering classes. There are a significantly lower
number of female community college students enrolled in the STEM field, especially in the areas of
computer science, engineering, and technology. Per the US Census Bureau statistics, women comprise
48% of the total workforce but only make up 27% of computer workers, 24 % of STEM, and only
13% of engineers. This implies that many engineering products that influence our daily lives have
been created without input from women, who make up a large portion of the population. Increased
diversity in STEM occupations encourages creativity and innovation ... Show more content on

By targeting the number of enrolled female students at community colleges, we can increase the
number of women college graduates and thus address the issue of the gender gap in the workforce.
This would help achieve the overall goal of facilitating creativity and innovation by increasing
diversity in STEM occupations. Any initiatives and programs designed for this purpose should also
take into account possible etiologies of this gender discrepancy. Some well known contributing factors
to the lower number of female community college students enrolled in STEM courses include
negative gender stereotypes regarding aptitude towards mathematics and science, and a decreased
number of female faculty members in college and universities.
I am personally invested in looking for solutions to the question: how can we increase female
community college enrollment in STEM and thereafter to decrease the gender gap in the workforce?
In order to find these solutions, it is important to understand how the brain and mind function
differently between students with gender and cultural differences in community college. I am
fascinated with learning and applying a knowledge of both neuroscience and cognitive theory to
improve teaching and learning. I am constantly investigating how and what I can do as a community
college educator to improve the current gender gap in STEM classrooms and thereby the workforce. I

Business Needs Of Mr. Smith s Bakery Essay
ntroduction:
In this project, we address the business needs of Mr.Smith s Bakery. This business is a bakery that
deals mostly with larger orders meant for parties, restaurants and large events. The bakery is primary a
business to business entity and customers call ahead to place orders. These orders are generally a bulk
order of a few products. Although the bakery is fictitious, this sort of business exist and is very
common way to operate a bakery. With the hassle of trying to keep paper and Excel records on
multiple tabs and folders, an Access database was the ideal solution.
The business has four currently employees, including Mr.Smith. The product categories is extensive
but for the sake of the database, we only included a handful to demonstrate that the database works
and that the calculations are done accurately and timely. Each product has a few ingredients that
should be tracked so that Mr.Smith knows how much of each ingredients are needed, giving the
business a better estimate of what is needed and if they can fulfill the orders.
The process of finding out the business rules, developing the database and solving the problems is
shown in greater detail in the following sections.
Project Background:
Mr.Smith s Bakery is not a real bakery that any of us are aware of. However, producing large
quantities of products as demanded by large customers is the ideal way to run a large bakery. Running
a business to business bakery is an efficient way to make use of a

National School Lunch Program Regulations
Lunchtime
Ring. Ring. Ring. The twelve o clock bell sounds for lunch. Hundreds of thousands of students around
the United States of America rush from their classes to the school cafeteria. Children and teenagers
ranging from grades K 12 grab a lunch tray and jump in line. The food that these students get to
choose from has changed over the past years because of the new National School Lunch Program
regulations, which limit the different foods that can be offered in schools. The passing of the National
School Lunch Program has led to the implementation of new nutritional standards when deciding what
foods can be served, changed the type of foods that are required to be served, established new rules on
how the regulations are monitored, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The National School Lunch Program enforced a rule, which sought to improve school meals (United
4088). The rule includes many different parts to it, which requires state agencies to acquire and check
many different pieces of data. The first thing the state agencies are required to do, according to the
United States Department of Agriculture, is to Conduct a nutritional review of school lunches and
breakfasts as part of the administrative review process (4088). By having these checks, the USDA can
ensure that schools are following the dietary restrictions as well as meeting the FDA nutritional
standards. The second step for state agencies is to Determine compliance with the meal patterns and
dietary specifications based on a review of menu and production records for a two week period (4088
4089). This guarantees that schools will follow the FDA regulations because the state agencies force
schools to follow and be compliant. To conclude the first rule, the third and final action that state
agencies must take is to Review school lunches and breakfasts every three years, consistent with the
HHFKA (Healthy Hungry Free Kids Act) (4089). This assures that schools are adhering to the FDA
guidelines over the long run. The agencies check the school menu over the past three years, to make

Herma The Shepherd Research Paper
In modern times he is sometimes referred to as The Demon, The Devil, or The Ruler of Hell. These
are titles given to him to show his purpose in most of the modern world. Today he is portrayed as the
evil ruler of Hell who seeks the destruction of Mankind. This belief began in early Christianity, and
was reinforced by Lutherans, Protestants, and Catholics alike. Before the second century ages it was
thought that Satan and his demons could possess your body and cause physical ailments such as
blindness, impotency, and madness. This change had a great deal to do with Herma s The Shepherd
where everyone is depicted as having an angel and a Demon guiding them at all time. The angel
responsible for all the good, and the demon for the bad. This led

Essay about Richard as an Anti-hero
Richard as an Anti hero:
To what extent does Richard embody this archetype?
In William Shakespeare s play, Richard III, Richard is portrayed as physically deformed and
psychologically affected. It is believed that his inner soul is a reflection of his physical deformities.
Richard is considered as the protagonist of this play, however this is highly contradictive. A
protagonist is the hero of the story who exhibits characteristics of courage and perseverance, and is
admired for their brave deeds as well as their noble qualities. Richard however, contradicts the
character portrayal of a hero and demonstrates himself as the exact opposite: an anti hero. The play

Richard says to Lady Anne: Your beauty was the cause of the effect:
Your beauty, that did haunt me in my sleep
To undertake the death of all the world,
So I might live one hour in your sweet bosom (1.2.126 129)
Richard takes a huge risk, handing Anne a knife and demanding she take away his life for he had
murdered both her father and husband. He insists to her it is only fair that she take his life in response.
Lady Anne rejects, falling for Richard s trap for she accepts his proposal of love. Richard succeeds in
manipulation. In the scene, Richard plays the role of a lover who will provide Anne with the emotional
support she would need; especially after suffering two loses. By persuading and manipulating Lady
Anne, Richard was able to get what he was really after; the power and a truce with the house of
Lancaster. This method of persuasion and manipulation are the basic fundamentals that Richard uses
on those he sees as useful in accomplishing his devilish deeds.
Family, loyalty, trust and marriage are some of the values and traditions that Richard ignores. Richard
acts like a caring brother (to Clarence), devoted lover, the innocent who is unjustly accused, a pious
man of God and the simple fellow who is too modest to become King (Cambridge 235). I will deliver
for you or else lie for you (1, 1,115.) are the exact words that Richard expresses to Clarence when
Clarence was being sent to the tower. As soon as Clarence is out of sight, Richard s

Creating A Better Recognition System
ABSTRACT
Bangla word recognition is extremely challenging and there are too few works reported on online
cursive Bangla word recognition. Bangla is a complicated script and it needs rigorous investigations to
implement a better recognition system. While we have sophisticated classifiers like Hidden Markov
Models or BLSTM Neural Networks for recognition of complicated scripts, we have very little
comparative studies about the appropriate feature sets for such scripts. In this paper, our aim is to
implement an appropriate recognition system for author independent unconstrained Bangla word
where a modified feature set is proposed. To construct the modified feature set, we modify existing
feature sets and add new features for improvement of recognition accuracy. We test performances of
various existing feature sets and proposed feature set on same Bangla dataset for fair comparison and
report the comparative results using various lexicons upto 20,000 word lexicon. Each time an HMM
based classifier is used to test the feature set. Finally, a recognition system is built over the
combination of existing and modified feature sets.
Keywords: Online handwriting recognition, online character recognition, lexicon driven approach,
Bangla script, Indic script, cursive text recognition.

Canada s Annual G20 Summit
In the summer of 2010, Canada s largest city had the honour of hosting the annual G20 summit to
discuss contemporary global economic issues. Given that such international events typically attract
thousands of protesters, organizers formed an Integrated Security Unit consisting of police officers
from across the country to provide security during the summit in downtown Toronto. Little did
Torontonians know, public safety and security came with the heavy price tag of surrendering certain
rights and freedoms, such as the right not to be unreasonably searched and the freedom of expression,
which are guaranteed by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. According to Ombudsman Andre Marin,
Regulation 233/10, which permitted police officers to infringe on these fundamental rights and
freedoms, would almost certainly be illegal and unconstitutional under the Charter therefore its
implementation was as a result of a one time governmental error. However, Carl Schmitt argues that a
country s positive laws simply hide the actuality of sovereignty, since the sovereign is he who decides
the exception. This paper will argue that the extensive authority granted to the police during the G20
reveals the fundamental reality of the inherent need for violence in the preservation of national
sovereignty as contended by Carl Schmitt. The first part of this essay will discuss the necessity and
justification of extraordinary measures that must be taken in times of emergencies. The second part of

The landscape of education has changed tremendously over the past several decades. Gone are the
days when students attended the public school in their community with the occasional student

options for students. In addition to public schools there are parochial, charter, private, home schooling,
and school choice options all vying for the same students. The scope of school public relations must

Analysis Of Robert Hayden s Those Winter Sundays
Showing love and gratitude goes a long way in strengthening relationships and makes us better
understands the sacrifices others make on our behalf. In those winter Sundays, Robert Hayden stated a
lot with very few words. This was possible due to brilliant use of imagery, metaphor and sound. His
striking words invoke thoughts in the mind of the reader of this dedicated father, up alone exposed to
the harsh elements who works hard each day to make his family comfortable, however they don t
value his acts of good will, nor did they give him any credit. In many cases, we glance back at one
point in our lives with lament. We feel that had it been, what we currently know, we knew back then
we would have made different choices, things would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Great use of imagery throughout the poem really emphasized Hayden s message. Hayden recollects
the memory of this specific Sunday morning. Using the word too suggests that the father rises early
consistently, regardless of what day it is. He dresses in the severe cold. His hands have cracks because
of the cold weather and the grueling work that he does each day.
When his dad turns on the chimneys and stoves, to make the house warm for his loved ones. His
striking words make me invoke thoughts in my mind of this persevering dad up alone wide open to the
harsh elements. When he noted his dads, hands were cracked, and that they ached it was a great use of
imagery. This was used to portray how hard working he was, as well as a symbol for all the agony and
inconvenience he was willing to bear for his family.
Hayden depicted sounds and in addition pictures in the same elucidating way when he wrote I awoke
and heard the cold splintering, breaking. Possibly, what Hayden heard was cracking noises that came
from the fire or ice softening off the windows. In any case, this decision of imagery is utilized to show
the devotion of his dad. He was willing to go out in the cold to break the ice of the windows for those
he cared about. Furthermore, Hayden s inclusion of the word blueback cold, was to stress that the sun

America is one of the most powerful countries in the world, with the ability to make or break other
nations and to completely dictate the world economy; however, many fail to realize that this
magnificent country is in danger of falling into the wrong hands. One of the most talked about and
debated topics of today is the race for presidency, and the nominations for the Democratic Party
concerning Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Hillary Clinton. With a very tight race, the two
being quite popular among different states and groups of people, it s almost impossible to tell who will

According to Huffington Post, Sanders beats Trump in this [NBC News/Wall St.] poll by 16 points, as

polls by an average of 5.2 points, as opposed to the 2.5 points for Clinton. Although many people
refuse to believe it, Trump actually does have a very terrifying chance of winning the Republican
nomination, especially considering the amount of people supporting him already. Sanders thankfully
beats Trump by 5.2 points, which is more than twice as many points that Clinton has, giving him more
of a chance of winning presidency. By voting for Hillary, you re putting everything on the table, in
danger of losing it all! Not only does Bernie have a better chance of winning against Trump and the
other Republican potentials, he s always been on the right side of history, knowing what decisions
would impact both America and the world negatively, and vise versa. For example, Sanders had voted
against the Iraq War, knowing that there would be unavoidable consequences if America jumped in
and fought. Clinton, however, had voted for the Iraq War and actually said, I made it very clear that I
made a mistake, plain and simple. And I have written about it in my book, I have talked about it in the
past. Another example would be the Keystone XL Pipeline, which would be a pipeline carrying heavy
oil from Canada to the refineries on the Gulf Coast of Texas, that would threaten water acquirers.
Bernie had always been against Keystone, unlike his opponent who only recently decided to change
her mind like many other issues. Making mistakes is simply not justifiable for the President of the
United States, because those mistakes are almost impossible to fix without full blown wars and the
future of the country being jeopardized. Hillary acts as though

John Brown s Life And Life
John Brown came from a line of men who were passionate about their convictions. In 1620, Peter
Brown, a passenger aboard the Mayflower and signer of the Mayflower Compact, began the Brown
legacy in America (Weiser). John Brown s grandfather, his namesake, was a captain in the
Revolutionary War when he lost his life to dysentery while fighting for his beliefs in 1776. He left
behind his wife and ten children, including his five year old son, Owen Brown.
When his father died, Owen Brown s family suffered. Without any help, the family s crops failed that

Owen Brown continued this pattern, but once he turned nineteen, he met Ruth Mills, a reverend s
daughter. Their biggest similarity was the importance of religion in their lives; they were both devout
Calvinists. Calvinism is a division of Protestantism. Calvinists believe that people are naturally selfish
and unwilling to follow God. They also believe in predestination, or that God has already chosen who
is going to be saved, and there is nothing one can do to alter that decision. This focus on religion was
passed down to the couple s children, and would prove a defining factor in John Brown s life.
Another event that shaped Owen Brown s views on slavery occurred in the 1790 s. In the 1770 s, a
minister had traveled to Connecticut, and he had brought his slaves with him. The man returned to the
South for a while, leaving his slaves behind. When he returned to retrieve his slaves, they would not
return with him. This act of defiance led to a public hearing where the minister defended the act of
slavery. Brown found his arguments unsettling, and became an abolitionist (Horn, 18). In 1793, Owen
Brown and Ruth Mills were married and they remained in Norfolk, Connecticut. They then had a son,
Salmon, who died before he turned two. After this disappointment, the two moved to Torrington,
Connecticut and had their second son. In his autobiography, Owen Brown wrote, In 1800, May 9, John

Identification In Voting
Legislations are attempting to pass laws that prevent voters from showing a form of identification.
Many including myself, think that voters should present a form of identification when voting no
matter what. If people were not required to have a form of identification when voting than anyone,
citizen or not would be able to vote. Also not having and ID. when voting could become advantageous
for either Republicans or Democrats. We show some form of identification for smaller reasons, I don t
see the positive outcomes, if any of not showing an ID. when voting.
For as long as I can remember Identifications have been used to show, and verify one s identity,
whether it is to buy a small box of cigarettes or get into a place, we must show and prove who are.
There is really no excuse to not have an identification for something more important like voting.
Voters should be required to show IDs when voting in person, so that no one can vote twice. It is
pretty self explanatory. Fraud within the elections is all too common, and having to show an
Identification is a necessary risk we have to take to ensure that the person who wins, is the person

Apparently, African Americans and Hispanics are more likely than whites to report transportation
problems and bad time and location as reasons for not getting to the polls, while white voters were the
most likely to cite disapproval of candidate choices (Weeks). The surveys state that if a white citizen
decides not to vote it is because they don t like the choices rather than having obstacles preventing
them from voting like African Americans and Hispanics do. All in the voting process requiring
identification may not have any effect on voter turnout if people poor or not would simply choose to

Engineering Design Process
Engineering Design Process Flight decks on planes are a complex series of buttons, switches, knobs
and lights. But pilots use each of these controls to operate a different piece of equipment and navigate
the plane safely. How do engineers design the flight deck so it works most efficiently for a pilot? Its
questions like that which must be asked and successfully answered for a piece of equipment to be
functional and successful in a plane. Kirschen Seah is a systems engineer for a commercial avionics
electronics company. She works closely with other engineers in her company, as well as with
customers to imagine, design and evaluate new flight deck controls. Understanding the Design Process

The designer starts making a rough model by using simple things like clay and ping pong balls.
Keeping the materials and design simple and flexible allows the designer to easily experiment with
and change the prototype. A prototype is the first working draft of a piece of equipment. Once the
designer is satisfied with the shape, they make a drawing of the controller on a computer. Using the
computer allows the team to change the components shape and move the knobs and switches around
easily. Once they have an initial
concept drawn up for the controller, they can print a three dimensional copy of the controller using a
special device called a stereolithography printer. This lets them handle the controller and check out the
feel and position of the buttons, knobs and trackball. If they want to change their position it is still
easy to do at this phase. If this all goes well, they are ready for testing. Kirschen helps with the
projects by providing hardware and software, which simulate an aircraft flight deck. This mockup
allows designers to test out new designs. Here designers can evaluate their projects in a dynamic flight
simulation and make sure they work correctly and are easy for the pilots to use. Once the component
has successfully passed on the requirements it is ready for delivery to the client. How Can You Think

Dual Language Classrooms
Introduction
The research I will be investigating will be the effectiveness of dual language classrooms. Dual
language classrooms often referred to as bilingual education are academic programs that are taught in
two languages throughout the school year. There are two types of dual language classrooms. Often
determined by population and current demographics within the school district one way or two way
classes will be offered. One way dual language classrooms are classrooms of only one type of native
language speaker. As an example, a one way dual language classroom would have only students who
speak Spanish as their first language in the classroom. Often these students speak only Spanish at
home and would receive instruction in both

Oil Drilling Endangers Arctic National Wildlife Riches
Oil Drilling Endangers Arctic National Wildlife Riches Can you imagine the grocery stores and
restaurants in your neighborhood disappearing bit by bit? The oil drilling in North Slope Borough,
Alaska, has affected 95,000 square miles of wildlife s habitat. The development of oil industry takes
away what is essential to the lives of the Gwich in: the Caribou. Gwich in villages rely on caribou to
supply their food and clothes. As the oil industry develops in a close proximity to the Gwich in
village, caribou do not go near the area anymore. The villagers can hardly find any caribou now. In her
book Silent Spring, Rachel Carson questions how powerful agents, like the oil industry, can have such
a devastating impact on others: [t]he decision is that of the authoritarian temporarily entrusted with
power; he has made it during a moment of inattention by millions to whom beauty and the ordered
world of nature still have a meaning that is deep and imperative (Carson, 376). We human beings
carry the responsibility of ensuring harmony amongst the living organisms inhabiting all of this planet.
We need to ensure that our ecosystem is protected. In order to prevent further damage to habitats and
extinction of species, we should stop developing oil drill in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR)
in Alaska.
We know that the oil in Alaska is valuable. Yet, their development and drilling only benefit a small
group of people in society. In A First American Views His Land, N. Scott

After the end of World War II there was great need for speedy industrial expansion in the whole world.

The Wage Gap, Worker Discrimination And Varying...
In terms of attributing to the wage gap, worker discrimination and varying preferences occurs largely
based on views surrounding what jobs are male or female dominated. Although worker discrimination
and wage discrepancies are a reality in Brazil, the labor market conditions for women are becoming
better over time. Despite gender segregation in the labor market, the wages of women are sometimes
evenly or positively affected. For instance, For industries and occupations where women receive
higher remuneration than men, we observe that women have higher education levels, indicating that
their higher remuneration is due to individual characteristics (Madalozzo 165). Even though a positive
correlation has been observed regarding women s education level and wage, in general, men still
benefit more based on their individual characteristics, which is why they are generally paid more.
According to Madalozzo, This diļ¬€erence in pay is decreasing but was still a signiļ¬cant 15.4 percent,
on average, in 2007, and ...the present study improves the quantiļ¬cation of this wage gap, showing
that the trend of a decreasing gap remains, but is losing pace overtime (165 66). In order to combat the
presence of the wage gap, policies regarding bettering women s education and incentivizing women to
enter the labor market should be implemented because the current system discourages women to enter
the market. According to Galor and Weil, ...increasing women s relative wages reduces fertility by

Premenstrual Syndrome Essay
Introduction Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) affects about half of women who are of reproductive age,
and the global prevalence for PMS is roughly 47.8% with percentages of women affected varying by
country1. Symptoms of PMS are cyclic, occur during the luteal phase, and diminish with the onset of
the menses2. There are more than 200 symptoms that have been associated with PMS, but the most
common symptoms can be categorized into 3 groups: behavioral, psychological, and physical
symptoms. Behavioral symptoms include fatigue, insomnia, dizziness, change in sexual interest, food
cravings, and/or overeating2. Psychological symptoms include irritability, anger, depressed mood,
crying, anxiety, tension, mood swings, difficulty concentrating, ... Show more content on

Iron is also a crucial part of menses, as it is found in blood, and the menstrual cycle can deplete a
woman s stores. While food sources are the recommended vehicles in which to meet the
recommendations for these vitamins and minerals, supplementation is another way a woman could
ensure she is getting the recommended dose of the aforementioned vitamins and minerals.
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of vitamin and mineral supplementation on
reducing PMS symptoms in women between the ages of 20 and 30. Half of the female population
suffers from PMS, while others experience significant symptoms that are not severe enough for a
clinical diagnosis, but occur during the luteal phase and affect daily living. This study is important
because PMS affects many women, and if this study successfully found a supplement or nutrition
prescription that reduced symptoms, women could live life regularly again.
Study Aims and Hypothesis One of the aim of this study is to identify if women with PMS have a
nutritional deficiency that could be an underlying factor in the symptoms they are experiencing.
Another aim of the study is to assess the effectiveness of different vitamins and minerals on reducing
symptoms of PMS by testing various vitamin and mineral supplements on

Research Project On Global Solar Radiation
1 Methodology
The flow chart below shows the methodology used in this research project. The difficulty encountered
in the project was putting together data from the internet data base. Also, actual meteorological data
requests for the sites under study were made but no respond. Hence, developed forecast models data
base to put together the data needed for the study.
1.1 Data Source and Sorting
Meteorological parameter data for four regional towns in PNG were collected for this study. In
addition, geographical locations and each sites geometrical standard parameters were calculated using
formulas used by [43] in developing empirical solar radiation prediction models. Global solar
radiation (GRS) data were obtained from National Aeronautics ... Show more content on

A combine total of 19,240 data for the four regional sites were supposed to be sampled for the neural
network training (including the leap days). However, substantial amount of missing daily mean data
were observed for each site. Table 1 summarizes the breakup of data sample used for this project..
All the data were sorted into daily and monthly mean as inputs for training, testing and validation,
with solar radiation as target output data. The 2016 meteorological data (January to September) were
sample data used for training and predicting solar radiation.
In data pre processing, the raw data is normalized to remove the outliers and inaccurate data in the
hope of achieving good results. Several statistical procedures are used in this purpose as highlighted
by [38, 39]. However, in order to fully appreciate the importance and reliability of ANN in actually
predicting solar radiation without using normalized or pre processed data, it was necessary to use the
primary data [48]. The dates that had no recordings, that is missing data, blanks, errors, and zeros were
deleted with their corresponding rows of values [40].
The four regional sites have varying seasonal weather patterns, therefore it was important that to
improve the reliability of the ANN training output, geographical information of the locations had to be
included in the models. Similar studies

How Does Shakespeare Use Humor In Twelfth Night
Humans have been on this planet for an estimated 200,000 years and yet we are still a cruel and
immoral species that finds the pain and manipulation of others amusing. Though the Twelfth Night
written by William Shakespeare takes place 400 years ago the humor in it has not changed as people
still find humour in Sir Andrew s antics, laugh at Malvolio s imprisonment, and giggle at the
misfortune of Antonio. The reason for that is simple; it is in human nature to mock others.
One example of Sir Andrew s abuse comes from before his first line is spoken. Maria is reprimanding
Sir Toby for his drinking and bringing is a knave too woo lady Olivia Sir Toby reasons with her saying
Why, he has three thousand ducats a year. (the Twelfth Night, William Shakespeare 1.3.20) This
shows that Sir Toby does not care to reason that he has a kind heart or a fine personality but only
wealth for drinking. Because of this fact Sir Toby reveals his manipulation in the final act resulting in
humour at Sir Andrews expense. Sir Toby is shown to be one of the main contributors to Sir Andrew s
manipulation like when Sir Andrew wishes to leave on the grounds that Olivia is being ... Show more

ones that will / use the devil himself with courtesy.) Say st thou that the / house is dark? (4.2.30 34)

Empowerment Of Water In Annie John, By Jamaica Kincaid Water
Oceans cover most of the Earth. They are essential for our environment since they produce more than
half of the oxygen in the atmosphere. Without our vast sea, humankind would not be able to survive.
In Annie John, written by Jamaica Kincaid water is demonstrated as a motif in literature showing the
coming of age story of a young girl growing up in the Caribbean. The protagonist, Annie, grows
learning how to properly balance the values of the colonized world and the native Caribbean culture,
Obeah. Kincaid uses the motif of water as an empowerment to Annie s growth by curing, nurturing,
and transforming her. Annie s safe haven as a young child consists of baths to help heal her from
bodily aches. In the Obeah culture it is believed that water can cure someone from any body aches.
Annie informs the reader of her childhood when she went to bathe in the sea after church, It was at a
time when I was thought to have weak kidneys and a bathe in the sea had been recommended as a
strengthening remedy (Kincaid 42). Bathing in the water is a remedy for Annie s body. The sea
demonstrates a higher power since three quarters cover the earth s surface. Oceans are a natural force
no mankind can replicate; therefore, they hold an influential component to heal Annie s weak kidneys.
The Obeah culture is woven into Annie s lifestyle even through the colonized world; both cultures are
simultaneously respected in her childhood. Thus, allowing water to heal Annie from any bodily aches

  • 2. More Specifically, I Am Very Interested In Increasing Female More specifically, I am very interested in increasing female enrollment in STEM in my college due to the low enrollment in computer science and engineering classes. There are a significantly lower number of female community college students enrolled in the STEM field, especially in the areas of computer science, engineering, and technology. Per the US Census Bureau statistics, women comprise 48% of the total workforce but only make up 27% of computer workers, 24 % of STEM, and only 13% of engineers. This implies that many engineering products that influence our daily lives have been created without input from women, who make up a large portion of the population. Increased diversity in STEM occupations encourages creativity and innovation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By targeting the number of enrolled female students at community colleges, we can increase the number of women college graduates and thus address the issue of the gender gap in the workforce. This would help achieve the overall goal of facilitating creativity and innovation by increasing diversity in STEM occupations. Any initiatives and programs designed for this purpose should also take into account possible etiologies of this gender discrepancy. Some well known contributing factors to the lower number of female community college students enrolled in STEM courses include negative gender stereotypes regarding aptitude towards mathematics and science, and a decreased number of female faculty members in college and universities. I am personally invested in looking for solutions to the question: how can we increase female community college enrollment in STEM and thereafter to decrease the gender gap in the workforce? In order to find these solutions, it is important to understand how the brain and mind function differently between students with gender and cultural differences in community college. I am fascinated with learning and applying a knowledge of both neuroscience and cognitive theory to improve teaching and learning. I am constantly investigating how and what I can do as a community college educator to improve the current gender gap in STEM classrooms and thereby the workforce. I believe ... The product categories is extensive but for the sake of the database, we only included a handful to demonstrate that the database works and that the calculations are done accurately and timely. Each product has a few ingredients that should be tracked so that Mr.Smith knows how much of each ingredients are needed, giving the business a better estimate of what is needed and if they can fulfill the orders. The process of finding out the business rules, developing the database and solving the problems is shown in greater detail in the following sections. Project Background: Mr.Smith s Bakery is not a real bakery that any of us are aware of. Hundreds of thousands of students around the United States of America rush from their classes to the school cafeteria. The food that these students get to choose from has changed over the past years because of the new National School Lunch Program regulations, which limit the different foods that can be offered in schools. The rule includes many different parts to it, which requires state agencies to acquire and check many different pieces of data. The first thing the state agencies are required to do, according to the United States Department of Agriculture, is to Conduct a nutritional review of school lunches and breakfasts as part of the administrative review process (4088). By having these checks, the USDA can ensure that schools are following the dietary restrictions as well as meeting the FDA nutritional standards. The second step for state agencies is to Determine compliance with the meal patterns and dietary specifications based on a review of menu and production records for a two week period (4088 4089). This guarantees that schools will follow the FDA regulations because the state agencies force schools to follow and be compliant. To conclude the first rule, the third and final action that state agencies must take is to Review school lunches and breakfasts every three years, consistent with the HHFKA (Healthy Hungry Free Kids Act) (4089). This assures that schools are adhering to the FDA guidelines over the long run. The agencies check the school menu over the past three years, to make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Essay about Richard as an Anti-hero Richard as an Anti hero: To what extent does Richard embody this archetype? In William Shakespeare s play, Richard III, Richard is portrayed as physically deformed and psychologically affected. It is believed that his inner soul is a reflection of his physical deformities. Richard is considered as the protagonist of this play, however this is highly contradictive. A protagonist is the hero of the story who exhibits characteristics of courage and perseverance, and is admired for their brave deeds as well as their noble qualities. Richard however, contradicts the character portrayal of a hero and demonstrates himself as the exact opposite: an anti hero. He insists to her it is only fair that she take his life in response. Lady Anne rejects, falling for Richard s trap for she accepts his proposal of love. Richard succeeds in manipulation. By persuading and manipulating Lady Anne, Richard was able to get what he was really after; the power and a truce with the house of Lancaster. This method of persuasion and manipulation are the basic fundamentals that Richard uses on those he sees as useful in accomplishing his devilish deeds. Family, loyalty, trust and marriage are some of the values and traditions that Richard ignores. Richard acts like a caring brother (to Clarence), devoted lover, the innocent who is unjustly accused, a pious man of God and the simple fellow who is too modest to become King (Cambridge 235). Bangla is a complicated script and it needs rigorous investigations to implement a better recognition system. While we have sophisticated classifiers like Hidden Markov Models or BLSTM Neural Networks for recognition of complicated scripts, we have very little comparative studies about the appropriate feature sets for such scripts. In this paper, our aim is to implement an appropriate recognition system for author independent unconstrained Bangla word where a modified feature set is proposed. To construct the modified feature set, we modify existing feature sets and add new features for improvement of recognition accuracy. We test performances of various existing feature sets and proposed feature set on same Bangla dataset for fair comparison and report the comparative results using various lexicons upto 20,000 word lexicon. Each time an HMM based classifier is used to test the feature set. Finally, a recognition system is built over the combination of existing and modified feature sets. Keywords: Online handwriting recognition, online character recognition, lexicon driven approach, Bangla script, Indic script, cursive text recognition. 1. Given that such international events typically attract thousands of protesters, organizers formed an Integrated Security Unit consisting of police officers from across the country to provide security during the summit in downtown Toronto. Little did Torontonians know, public safety and security came with the heavy price tag of surrendering certain rights and freedoms, such as the right not to be unreasonably searched and the freedom of expression, which are guaranteed by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. According to Ombudsman Andre Marin, Regulation 233/10, which permitted police officers to infringe on these fundamental rights and freedoms, would almost certainly be illegal and unconstitutional under the Charter therefore its implementation was as a result of a one time governmental error. However, Carl Schmitt argues that a country s positive laws simply hide the actuality of sovereignty, since the sovereign is he who decides the exception. This paper will argue that the extensive authority granted to the police during the G20 reveals the fundamental reality of the inherent need for violence in the preservation of national sovereignty as contended by Carl Schmitt. Analysis Of Robert Hayden s Those Winter Sundays Showing love and gratitude goes a long way in strengthening relationships and makes us better understands the sacrifices others make on our behalf. In those winter Sundays, Robert Hayden stated a lot with very few words. This was possible due to brilliant use of imagery, metaphor and sound. His striking words invoke thoughts in the mind of the reader of this dedicated father, up alone exposed to the harsh elements who works hard each day to make his family comfortable, however they don t value his acts of good will, nor did they give him any credit. His striking words make me invoke thoughts in my mind of this persevering dad up alone wide open to the harsh elements. When he noted his dads, hands were cracked, and that they ached it was a great use of imagery. Hayden depicted sounds and in addition pictures in the same elucidating way when he wrote I awoke and heard the cold splintering, breaking. Sanders thankfully beats Trump by 5.2 points, which is more than twice as many points that Clinton has, giving him more of a chance of winning presidency. By voting for Hillary, you re putting everything on the table, in danger of losing it all! Not only does Bernie have a better chance of winning against Trump and the other Republican potentials, he s always been on the right side of history, knowing what decisions would impact both America and the world negatively, and vise versa. Clinton, however, had voted for the Iraq War and actually said, I made it very clear that I made a mistake, plain and simple. And I have written about it in my book, I have talked about it in the past. Another example would be the Keystone XL Pipeline, which would be a pipeline carrying heavy oil from Canada to the refineries on the Gulf Coast of Texas, that would threaten water acquirers. In 1620, Peter Brown, a passenger aboard the Mayflower and signer of the Mayflower Compact, began the Brown legacy in America (Weiser). Owen Brown continued this pattern, but once he turned nineteen, he met Ruth Mills, a reverend s daughter. Their biggest similarity was the importance of religion in their lives; they were both devout Calvinists. Calvinism is a division of Protestantism. Calvinists believe that people are naturally selfish and unwilling to follow God. They also believe in predestination, or that God has already chosen who is going to be saved, and there is nothing one can do to alter that decision. This focus on religion was passed down to the couple s children, and would prove a defining factor in John Brown s life. Another event that shaped Owen Brown s views on slavery occurred in the 1790 s. In the 1770 s, a minister had traveled to Connecticut, and he had brought his slaves with him. The man returned to the South for a while, leaving his slaves behind. When he returned to retrieve his slaves, they would not return with him. This act of defiance led to a public hearing where the minister defended the act of slavery. Brown found his arguments unsettling, and became an abolitionist (Horn, 18). In 1793, Owen Brown and Ruth Mills were married and they remained in Norfolk, Connecticut. They then had a son, Salmon, who died before he turned two. After this disappointment, the two moved to Torrington, Connecticut and had their second son. In his autobiography, Owen Brown wrote, In 1800, May 9, John was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Using the computer allows the team to change the components shape and move the knobs and switches around easily. Once they have an initial concept drawn up for the controller, they can print a three dimensional copy of the controller using a special device called a stereolithography printer. How Does Shakespeare Use Humor In Twelfth Night Humans have been on this planet for an estimated 200,000 years and yet we are still a cruel and immoral species that finds the pain and manipulation of others amusing. Though the Twelfth Night written by William Shakespeare takes place 400 years ago the humor in it has not changed as people still find humour in Sir Andrew s antics, laugh at Malvolio s imprisonment, and giggle at the misfortune of Antonio. They are essential for our environment since they produce more than half of the oxygen in the atmosphere. Without our vast sea, humankind would not be able to survive. In Annie John, written by Jamaica Kincaid water is demonstrated as a motif in literature showing the coming of age story of a young girl growing up in the Caribbean. The protagonist, Annie, grows learning how to properly balance the values of the colonized world and the native Caribbean culture, Obeah. Kincaid uses the motif of water as an empowerment to Annie s growth by curing, nurturing, and transforming her. Annie s safe haven as a young child consists of baths to help heal her from bodily aches. In the Obeah culture it is believed that water can cure someone from any body aches. Annie informs the reader of her childhood when she went to bathe in the sea after church, It was at a time when I was thought to have weak kidneys and a bathe in the sea had been recommended as a strengthening remedy (Kincaid 42).
