Tissue Engineering Scaffold
Preliminary Data 3: Tissue engineering scaffolds comprised of decellularized myocardial extracellular
matrix effectively emulate the natural cardiac environment. In order to best reconstruct the damaged
tissue of a heart following myocardial infarction, the chemical and biological cues that dictate cell
recruitment and differentiation in the native tissues are required. Each human tissue contains its own
specific combination of proteins and proteoglycans within the ECM to facilitate this process, so it
serves that scaffold material obtained from the heart would best serve to reconstruct cardiac tissue
(Singelyn et al. 2009). Modifying the scaffold into an injectable form would allow for the noninvasive
delivery of the therapy directly to the affected site. Previous studies on the gelation of a decellularized
porcine myocardium ECM scaffold have found it satisfactory in mimicking the natural environment of
the heart (Singelyn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To prepare the injectable ECM hydrogel, ventricular porcine myocardium will be decellularized with
SDS and processed into an injectable solution through lyophilization and partial pepsin digestion
(Singelyn et al. 2009; Singelyn et al. 2012). Final solubilized myocardial matrix will be brought to pH
8 and kept on ice until gelation. Fluorinated PCL beads will be fabricated by mixing a liquid PCL
solution with 0.14 M pentadecafluorooctanoyl chloride. After mixing at low speed for 24 hours at
room temperature, the solution will be dialyzed, lyophilized, and exposed to UV light (365 nm) to
polymerize into beads (Wijekoon et al. 2013). Prior to combination with the solubilized myocardial
matrix, the PCL beads need to be placed in an aseptic oxygen chamber (7.5 x 6.0 x 4.0 cm3; O2 flow
rate, 5 mL/hour) for oxygen saturation. Afterwards, the oxygenated fluorinated PCL beads should be
immediately combined with the solubilized myocardial matrix to form the liquid hydrogel precursor

Piaget s Developmental Stages Essay
Piaget s developmental stages are ways of normal intellectual development. There are four different
stages. The stages start at infant age and work all the way up to adulthood. The stages include things
like judgment, thought, and knowledge of infants, children, teens, and adults. These four stages were
names after Jean Piaget a developmental biologist and psychologist. Piaget recorded intellectual
abilities and developments of infants, children, and teens. The four different stages of Piaget s
developmental stages are sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational.
Sensorimotor is from birth up to twenty four months of age. Preoperational which is toddlerhood
includes from eighteen months old all the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I handed my infant niece, Harper, a set of keys, thinking she would shake them and giggle at the noise
they made. I thought this because in Piaget s developmental stage, sensorimotor, it states that infants
learn from experimenting and their main focus is what is happening in that very moment. My
prediction was correct. As soon as I held the keys in front of her she began to reach for them. Then
once I handed the keys to her, she rattled them making a clanging noise.
The preoperational stage is when infants become older, young children and they are able to think in a
more symbolic way. In this stage children start to learn the difference between real and make believe,
past and future. They tend to have more of an imagination as they grow older. Children in the
preoperational stage still are not completely logical with their thinking. They go more off intuition. Do
more of what they want to do, not what is the best thing to do. They are still too young to grasp the
concept of cause and effect. They also do not understand time and comparison yet.
My niece, Arianna, plays house and has baby dolls. She pretends like she is a mother to her baby dolls.
Even though this is make believe she is playing the role of a mother to her baby doll. This connects to
Piaget s developmental stage of preoperational because her thinking is not completely logical, but she
knows that the baby is not actually real. I think that this is how most little

On Being a Cripple , by Nancy Mairs
On Being a Cripple , Nancy Mairs In her essay On Being a Cripple , Nancy Mairs presents her
audience with an honest inside view of her life and perspective as a cripple, a word she openly uses to
define herself. She brings her world to us by discussing a wide variety of things including language,
family, and humor, and how these all relate to her life. Through various stories and insights, she allows
her readers to gain an understanding and acceptance of people with disabilities. She examines the
public s view of the disabled, as well as the views they have of themselves, and compares them to her
own. She makes it clear that she is not to be defined solely by her disability. In discussing honestly her
views, as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Human Population And Its Impact On The Environment
All populations of species are limited to a specific number, called its carrying capacity, which refers to
the ability of an ecosystem to support their needs. Once a population grows to the point where it
extends past the limit, the environment no longer has the capacity to support them and individuals
must die to stabilize the population. Humans are no exception to this rule, as their populations are
constrained by such density dependent factors as the availability of food, land, and other resources.
Growth in the human population in particular, profoundly worsens the effect on the environment as
well, based on the IPAT equation which states that population directly contributes to environmental
impact. With the rapid growth that the human population is undergoing, researchers predict that
humanity is overshooting their carrying capacity and will soon face a collapse; however, the ability to
use technology to efficiently maximize resource allocation while minimizing environmental impact
raises a debate of whether or not humans will be able to continue living as they are now.
The article, Limits to Growth was Right by the Guardian evaluates the predictions put forth in the
book, Limits to Growth, according to recent studies from the University of Melbourne. Published in
1972, Limits to Growth presents the results of a study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
in which researchers created a complex mathematical program to estimate the future of population,

Tex Wash Bridge Research Paper
The Tex Wash Bridge
The Tex Wash Bridge was built in 1967, listed as functionally obsolete in 2014, and failed do to
collapsing in July of 2015. After 2014 inspections were made and no flaws were detected so it was left
unchanged. In 1967, the construction crew had the task of spanning the Tex Wash to connect the
freeway between California and Arizona along the Chuckwalla Mountains. They decided the best, and
most cost effective, way of doing this is by channeling a dry riverbed and narrowing it where the
bridge was to stand. The columns of the bridge were to stand on their foundations which was sitting
on the soil and the banks of the bridges were given large rocks to protect their foundation from being
washed away (Kelman).

Alex Turner Interpretation
Do I Wanna Know? by the Arctic Monkeys is a song about a man who wants a girl back. The theme
that Alex Turner, the song s writer, could be trying to get across is that love is very difficult to let go
of. In the song, Turner writes Been wondering if your heart s still open and if so I wanna know what
time it shuts. These lyrics express his questions about the way she feels for him. Turner also
continually questions in the song Do I wanna know? , which really highlights the indecision he is
facing. He is afraid she doesn t feel the same way towards him and he doesn t want to hear that. The
chorus also contains the powerful lyrics: Ever thought of calling when you ve had a few?/ Cause I
always do (Turner). In this line he seems to explain

A Synagogue Experience Essay
I have always been interested in learning about religion in conjunction with experiencing it. Growing
up I was raised in a Christian home and learned very little about any other religion including other
monotheistic religion. Judaism is the religion that I knew the least about and decided that the best
possible way for me to learn more was to experience it. I had only ever heard of Judaism in a comical
or historical way. I chose to go to a Synagogue to further my knowledge and experience Judaism first
hand.
I called ahead to Temple Sinai in Denver and arranged a time to visit with Rabbi Richard Rheins. It
just so happened that a class from Red Rocks was also planning a visit and I was encouraged to join
them as well. I was able to attend a special service on November 11th, Veterans Day. This service was
very different than what I had expected. It was a Shabbat service that included a naming, an honoring
of veterans, as well as two bat mitzvah announcements. I had to dress in business casual attire and
received snacks and drinks at the end called nosh. I had heard previously that during a Shabbat service
the Torah was brought out and during the service that I had attended, it was not.

Hannibal Lecter s Identity and Ethos Essay
Hannibal Lecter s Identity and Ethos
Anthony Hopkins, as Hannibal raises a few interesting ideas about reality, identity and our perception
of the serial killer. First of all, the movie would have never been made if Hopkins, had not agreed to
do the sequel (Sterritt). Second, even though Hopkins, has taken on numerous roles, his memorable
roles (besides as Hannibal Lecter) are not so villainous such as his characters in Remains of the Day
or Shadowlands. In relation to this ethnography of the audience viewing the film, Hannibal s ethos is
directly tied to Hopkins, ethos and it shows in audience reactions.

The character, Hannibal, could be analyzed within any of Baudrillard s four orders, as aspects of his
character fit into any one of the categories. Under the first order, Hannibal may be seen as a symbol or
sign of an actual serial killer who may live in the present doing similar things. However, our morality
resists this notion because we don t want to believe such evil exists in
reality. But, to complicate matters, Dr. Lecter is a psychiatrist by trade. As a psychiatrist, he shows he
is educated, well mannered, and intelligent not our typical image of a serial killer. If the words and
images of the media represent reality within this first order, the psychiatrist or psychotherapist is
increasingly important in today s society as the person who guides decisions and lives of people in
therapy thus eliminating morality and replacing it with relativism to the self. Therefore, as a well
mannered and polite psychiatrist, Hannibal gains credibility with the audience and thus becomes a
protagonist figure. So our basic reality in resisting the evil nature of Hannibal is supported by his
occupation and intelligence.
Within the context of the second order, Hannibal s character represents something that masks reality.
An analysis of this order leads to questions of Hannibal s identity mixed in with his ethos and the
nature of the horror film genre. The largest

by the 105 freeway in the heart of Inglewood surrounded by many residential buildings. The huge
park has many visually stimulating and pleasurable attributes. There are various pathways in the park
and these pathways are surrounded by a large amount of big trees, which serve as shade for people

The Influences of Politics, Science, and Discovery on...
Jules Verne s science fiction novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea delivers profound insight
into historical events which influenced the work. Through Verne s descriptive style, one is able to
ascertain various political and foreign policy aspects that involved France during the time the novel
was written. In addition, worldly issues and struggles can be accurately assessed. Due to Verne s detail
and determination to explore questions of liberty and authority, it is evident that he largely
incorporates personal opinion and ideas into his works ( Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea
Literature and Its Times). Verne also integrates Victorian Era interest such as technology and science.

The destruction of the Russian warship provides a supreme indication of who Verne supported in the
conflicts between Russian and Poland. Verne sympathizes with the suffering of the Polish people and
aspires for them to obtain independence from their oppressors. It should be noted that Verne s opinion
reflects those of many in France who objected passionately to the Russians brutal punishment of the
Poles ( Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea Literature and Its Times). It became clearly evident
to Pierre Jules Hetzel, Verne s publisher, that a scene involving the destruction of a Russian warship
by a Pole would result in severe political ramifications. Hetzel feared that destroying a Russian
warship in Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea could anger the Russian government and produce
some form of retaliation. It should be noted that France had been in opposition of Russia in the
Crimean War, which came to a conclusion in 1856. Taking into consideration the closeness of the
Crimean War and the release of the first manuscript of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea in
1868, one can speculate that France did not want to risk engagement in another war with Russia. In
addition, during the time Verne was finishing his first manuscript, the Prussians were on the move in
Denmark and Austria, and many in the French government feared that France would be next on their
list ( Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea Literature and Its Times).

This article discussed diversion programs that are used to help adolescents who have been arrested for
first time misdemeanors. These diversion programs use group counseling as a mandatory component
of sentencing demonstrate initial success in reducing recidivism rates in national outcome studies. The
goal of these diversion programs are to keep adolescents out of the juvenile justice system whenever
possible (Lipsey, Howell, Kelly, Chapman, Carver, 2010). These diversion programs divert
adolescents from entering the juvenile justice system and offer alternatives to formal disciplinary
action. Teen courts (also called Youth Courts) are a growing type of diversion program that utilize a
therapeutic approach, with over 1,050 teen youth courts currently operating in the United States. They
are designed to promote restorative justice, encouraging the youth to restore the damages his or her
behaviors caused to the community. Teen courts have the flexibility to incorporate essential life skills
that are tailored to adolescents developmental needs. These groups sessions are within one year of
time and members have to complete six to eight of the sessions. These sessions include: the
introduction, communication styles, goal setting, career development, anger management skills,
healthy relationships, wellness and termination. Counseling Group Framework The philosophy of the

Religion In The Book Of Ephesians
Each verse in this passage is in the contexts of what a relationship between a husband and wife should
be. Paul writes as if he is speaking directly to husbands and their wives. Wives, submit to your
husbands as to the Lord, because the husband is the head of the wife as also Christ is the head of the
church he himself being the savior of the body. Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the
church and gave himself for her to sanctify her by cleansing her with the washing of the water by the
word, so that he may present the church to himself as glorious not having a stain or wrinkle, or any
such blemish, but holy and blameless. The passage itself is in the context of how the body of Christ is

In the context of the book as a whole, Paul is trying to encourage the believer in Ephesus by showing
how Christ is bringing a people together for himself that is made up of Jews and Gentiles. This is to
show his ultimate glory and triumph. The book of Ephesians itself is broken down into nine sections.
The first section Paul starts off with praising God. Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ. (Eph. 1:3) Paul praises God for two things, spiritual blessings and the redemption in Christ.
(Eph. 1:3 14) Next Paul takes time to give thanks and prays for the Ephesian believers in his letter. He
prays for they that might have wisdom and revelation so that they can be encouraged about what God
is doing. This of course sets the stage for the rest of his letter. In the third section, Paul talks about
reconciliation to God through Jesus. (2:1 10) He mentions that this is achieved by grace

Immigration And Citizenship
Immigration and Citizenship in Ancient Rome and Today An issue that has always been of concern in
America is that of Immigration, and citizenship. The United States has at times been a blessed
sanctuary for those of foreign nationalities, and has at others been an unwelcoming, ostracizing place.
However, for most of our history, the rights and privileges of United States citizenship have been an
alluring proposition for those of more underprivileged means. The same could be said about the rights
and privileges of Roman citizenship in ancient times. The infrastructure, safety and freedoms of Rome
and the Roman government where unmatched. When a nation attracts large masses the way that the
United States does and the way that Rome once did, the dilemma occurs of how exactly to go about
allowing people to immigrate to, and gain citizenship into the nation. Ancient Rome had very clear
regulations for dealing with these issue, and today, the United States does as well. If one were a person
living in the middle to eastern part of Europe from roughly 700 B.C.E to 450 A.D., there were many
ways one could have come across Rome. One may have heard stories of a warring nation, within
which there is revolutionary government, revolutionary civil rights for the time, and rich commerce,
one may simply live near the nation, and have found yourself interested, or alternatively, one could be
the former citizen of a nation or sovereignty which Rome has just conquered. In any of these

constant theme was about toxic and solid waste, but another underlining theme was the economy
versus environment.
In the 21st century, environmental justice examined government legislator and policies that placed
people and communities of color at risk. The authors presented the point on how the current system

The Theory And The Psychoanalytic Theory
Although used predominantly to explain the varying characteristics each individual possesses,
personality is also a term often coined to define and explain the reasons behind an individual s
motivations and reactions to certain events, entities and decisions. Defined by Larson Buss, 2005,
personality is the set of psychological traits and mechanisms within the individual that are organised
and relatively enduring, and that influence his or her interaction with, and adaptions to, the
intrapsychic, physical and social environments. As personality encompasses such a wide array of
concepts, there are many competitive theories battling to explain these dynamic ideas. Of these
theories, is the unorthodox Psychoanalytic theory, developed by ... Show more content on

In contrast, the humanistic approach emphasised the conscious awareness of needs, choices and
personal responsibilities of the individual (Lahey, 2009). They believed that the personal worth of the
particular individual, the centrality of human values, and the creative and active nature of human
beings was what defined the person (McLeod, 2007). Basically, the humanistic approach, according to
Abraham Maslow, was that humans are born good and that human nature is compassionate and
positive (Larsen Buss, 2012).
Both the psychoanalytic and humanistic theories differ from one another in multiple ways. One of the
most prominent differences is their view on human nature. As mentioned above, Freud and his
psychoanalytic concept, viewed humans as inherently bad. The id, he defined, operated solely on the
pleasure principle, craving immediate gratification without consideration about moral values and the
harm it could cause (McLeod, 2008). He also believed that the ego and the superego was the minds
way of controlling the id ((Lahey, 2009; Larsen Buss, 2012; McLeod, 2008).
In contrast, humanistic psychologists viewed human nature as fundamentally good. Maslow had a
positive view on men, believing that each had the ability to grow and mature into proper beings, and
make use of their full potential (Boeree, 2000 Larsen Buss, 2012). The main emphasis of the
humanistic approach, was that an individual has free will and this plays an important role in shaping

Since AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) is a disease of the immune system caused by
HIV, which is a retrovirus that causes acute immunosuppression. HIV can produce an increase in fatal
diseases which includes wasting syndromes and central nervous system disintegration. People with
acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) develop opportunistic infections once the immune
system becomes severely compromised. A patient s CD4 T cell is directly related to the risk of
developing an opportunistic infection. Additionally, HIV most frequently infects CD4 cells. The CD4
cell count is a key gauge of the health of the immune system. CD4 levels lower than 200 will be at
risk for an opportunistic infection. .Patients with AIDS routinely receives a test called the CD4 test.
This blood test is taken to count several types of cells. Moreover, this test do not count CD4 cells, it is
a calculation based on total white blood cells and the proportion of cells that are CD4. The blood
sample is tested to count several types of cells. Interpretation of this test does not count the CD4 cells
directly. Instead, the laboratory makes an estimate based on total white blood cells and the percentage
of cells that are CD4. Therefore, the CD4 count is not exact. When the CD4 cells has gone down, it is
indicative of a weakened immune system. The lower the CD4 cells, the more probable the patient will
become sick. A patient loses the ability to fight infection when the CD4 cells have gone down. Once
the patient has lost the ability to fight off germs, an opportunistic infection such as pneumonia, skin
infections, oral disorders, diarrhea, AIDS related dementia, Kaposi sarcoma, and CNS disorders may
occur. Routinely patients are advised to check CD4 cells every three to six months when initiating

greenhouse effect and global warming, deplete the ozone, increase occurrences of cancer and
respiratory disorders, and reduce the photosynthetic ability of plants. In addition, such hazardous
waste is primarily generated at growing rates, by various industries which utilize petroleum products
as energy sources and raw materials. The effective remediation of oily sludge has become a worldwide
problem due to its hazardous nature and increasing production quantity around the world. More

2.1 What is Oily Sludge?
It is worthwhile to examine the various definitions of oily sludge to recognize the multi layered issue
its clean up entails. It is also noteworthy that many definitions of systems engineering describe what it
does and not what it is. This is particularly prevalent in the earlier standards.
The definition that depicts what oily sludge is comprised is as follows: Oily sludge is one of the most
significant solid wastes generated in the petroleum industry. It is a complex emulsion of various
petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs), water, heavy metals, and solid particles.

Research Paper On The Bauhaus Movement
The Bauhaus Movement
The first decades of the 20th century in modernism was characterised by enormous social and political
changes with a radically changing lifestyle. Technology, manufacturing, science and art was the
driving force. The Bauhaus movement was one of the most influential modern design movements of
the 20th century reaching its peak between the two world wars. It was founded in 1919 in the city of
Weimar in Germany by architect Walter Gropius. Although the Bauhaus was founded by an architect,
it did not actually have architecture department during its early years. Instead, Gropius wanted to
focus on a study of art that would eventually encompass many different aspects of design, and tying
them all together. The word Bauhaus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gropius goal was to create a new guild of craftsmen . The Bauhaus movement created classic pieces
and inspirational work in Europe and around the world as many of these great figures had to emigrate
after the Bauhaus was forced to close in 1933 due to the political pressure from the Nazi movement.
Wassily Kandinsky taught basic design theory at the Bauhaus with association to form and colour.
Influenced by theosophy, his abstract artwork shows his use of the primary colours red, yellow and
blue and the geometrical elements such as circles, half circles, triangles, squares and simple lines. He
believed these certain colours in relationship to a certain shape represented how the reader would feel,
making them have an emotional connection.
It can be said that the Bauhaus was the first modern art school. Art schools are strongly influenced by
their teaching of design and skill. The Bauhaus curriculum model is still used in education today. The
Bauhaus curriculum combined theoretic education and practical training in the educational workshops.
It drew inspiration from the ideals of the revolutionary art movements and design experiments of the

Prison In To Kill A Mockingbird
Prisons are defined as buildings in which people are legally held as a punishment for a crime they
have committed or while awaiting trial. Prisoners are usually convicted of a crime, such as shoplifting
or murder. However, can imprisonment be caused by simply going against social dynamics? The
answer lies within Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird. Written by Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird
is a novel that was first published in the 1960s during the Civil Rights Movement. Thus, it is logical
that the novel is set in 1930s Maycomb, Alabama, a setting that contains deep rooted racism and social
dynamics. For instance, women in Maycomb are expected to act like perfect southern belles, by
maintaining a calm demeanor, wearing dresses, and participating ... Show more content on

Here, Scout s main parental figures are Atticus, Calpurnia, and Miss Maudie, who do not influence her
to act like a southern belle. Atticus, Scout s father, and Calpurnia, the Finch s cook, advocate solid
morals, such as consider[ing] things from [another] point of view, rather than attempting to change
Scout s character to match the social dynamics of Maycomb. Miss Maudie, a neighbor, does exert a
feminine influence on Scout by acting like a chameleon lady, for while she works in her garden, she
wears overalls and becomes dirty, however, later in the day, she displays aspects of a southern belle by
reign[ing] over the street in magisterial beauty. Although Miss Maudie projects an important message
to Scout, which is that one s personality does not always have to match expectations, her chameleon
like personality does not pressure Scout to change herself to fit the mold of women in the 1930s. Thus,
Scout does not have an effective womanly influence on her in the dawn of the novel, allowing her to
freely contradict social dynamics and pursue in boyish activities, such as rolling on a tire and playing
football. Therefore, Scout is not confined because there are not any social pressures put upon her.
However, she will soon be presented with a new parental figure, who will force Scout to leave this
personality behind and participate in ladylike

Naloxone Essay
To help with the quick admission, intranasal administration is a convenience to those who have to
administer Naloxone because intranasal Naloxone has a preset dosage. While intranasal Naloxone is
easier to administer, intravenous and intramuscular Naloxone administrators have a choice on the dose
to give. Advanced EMTs have enough knowledge to choose the dose of Naloxone to give the patient
to keep the patient alive. Intranasal was not approved until November of 2015 when the FDA
approved a highly concentrated spray form of Naloxone (Strang et al. 576). Intranasal administration
only allows one dose to be given compared to Intravenous administration which allows a more
adjusted dosage of Naloxone to be given. According to Ott, an ... Show more content on

Intravenous Naloxone reaches the brain two minutes faster than intranasal Naloxone, which could be
the difference between life or death. However, through an I.V., 100% of Naloxone reaches the brain.
On the other hand, Strang, McDonald, Tas, and Day discovered that when intranasal Naloxone is not
administered at a 90 degree angle or the nasal cavity is blocked with vomit, Naloxone gathers at the
back of the throat and is swallowed by the Naloxone recipient (576). This means that when intranasal
Naloxone is administered, Naloxone has to be administered repeatedly to fully reverse opioid
overdose. Often times, intranasal Naloxone is followed by administration of intravenous or
intramuscular Naloxone. While using intravenous and intramuscular administration, there is no way to
slow the absorption of Naloxone.
Nevertheless, several studies have shown that intranasal Naloxone absorbs in the same amount of time
as intravenous Naloxone when the administrator accounts for the time Naloxone takes for an I.V. to be
placed. Granted the absorption rate is slower for intranasal admission versus intravenous, the nasal
route still has a valuable blood supply allowing Naloxone to be absorbed efficiently (Robison and
Wermeling 2131). Intranasal administration is effective enough to reverse drug overdose. Intranasal
administration can be repeated every three minutes and last for 180 minutes while intravenous

negate the assimilationist progress script imposed upon ethnic groups (28). In other words, the
representation of a fluid gender conscious demonstrates the chicanoismo ideology of a new ethnically
blended identity to a gender blended identity which contests the attachment of roles on both a gender
conscious, an ethnic conscious and the majority world culture.
The Mexican American community supports the subservient female role in society portraying them as
docile, reliant and obedient to their male accompaniment. The domestic household utility of Mexican
American woman is symbolized in a variety of household objects including attire that capitulate their
gender representation. For example, as a child, Ermila recognizes her grandmother and female
compassion by her apron, an article of clothing symbolizing servitude. When she spots her without the
apron, she can hardly recognize her without the symbolic article of clothing. In turn, Grandmother

infiltrating the domestic household. However, unlike Ermila, Grandmother Zumaya is far too
entrenched by her upbringing and time stay in the older generational Mexican American patriarchal
society to break herself away from it, and her conflict against it never reaches farther from the front
doorstep of her household. Her immediate regression back to confines of the patriarchy, symbolically

Abel Tesfaye Essay
Abel Tesfaye, other known as The Weeknd, is a newly arising artist. The 25 year old singer became a
roaring sensation after his release of a trio of highly acclaimed mixtapes. Those being House of
Balloons, Thursday and Echoes of Silence. During the time these were released, Tesfaye was
completely mysterious, nobody knowing his real identity. This worked immaculately well with the
themes of his music, dark, sulky songs about meaningless sex and drug use. It was a more revealing,
less glamorous side of R B compared to the mainstream of the genre, this making the Weeknd the next
big thing. He eventually revealed his identity and was consistently making it to the top ten of the
Billboard charts with all his songs. He didn t seem like every other ... Show more content on

Now that he has gained attention, he s making music that would have been very unexpected years ago.
It all started in 2012, with the debut of Trilogy, a remastered collection of his original 2011 mixtapes.
A year after, he released his official debut album, Kiss Land, which was similar to his earlier work.
However, many fans felt the more polished version took away from what initially made them latch
onto Tesfaye s work on songs like Wicked Games. But to grow you must move forward. Tesfaye made
a 180 and changed roles into a pop star when he released Earned It in 2014, lead single from the
soundtrack to Fifty Shades Of Grey. This song has a much different vibe then many of The Weeknd s
other songs, this being more symphonic and magnificent. It was apparent that he was moving out of
his traditional and adapted sound of alternative R B to reach a bigger, more general audience. Can t
Feel My Face was more out of unlike him. This song having a funky, pop sound to it, produced by
super producer Max Martin sounds more like Michael Jackson than anything on past mixtapes.

announced a collaboration with pop singer Ed Sheeran, who is on the other side of the

Appalachian Mountains And Appalachians
Appalachians
The Appalachian Mountains region is roughly 360,000 km squared, taking up about 3.6 percent of
Canada s land surface. This region locates itself on the islands of Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova
Scotia, New Brunswick, and a bit of Quebec, with Moncton and Halifax as some of its major
cities. The rocks, most of which are mostly sedimentary, were changed drastically when Europe and
North America collided, causing its geography to be uneven, with many jagged peaks. Forestry,
agriculture, fishing, tourism, coal mining, logging, and manufacturing are their main industries.Their
overall population lands at a bit more than 25 million. Some interesting facts are that they have the
oldest mountains and the richest fishing.
Canadian Shield Despite covering 5 million km squared of land (over 50 percent) it does not have
ideal soil for crops while having the richest area for mining. The Canadian Shield occupies most of
Quebec, much of Ontario, Nunavut, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories and a small portion
of Alberta. Some of the jobs in this area of only 7 million are lumbering, mining, and manufacturing.
Their land contains mostly igneous and metamorphic rock plus many minerals (gold, nickel, lead,
copper, zinc,). When the tectonic plates collided the mountains, later eroded to flatland or rounded
hills. Its geography also contains rivers and lakes from glaciers. Some of their largest cities are
Montreal and Kugluktuk.

Death as Analyzed through Socrates and Hamlet
Death, the one appointment we all must keep, and for which no time is set (Charlie Chan). Although
many believe it to be ominous, death, signifies an end to this earthly and material life; the life of
which we are sure of. Plato s Phaedo and Shakespeare s play Hamlet offer different perspectives on
the life we are unsure of, namely death or the afterlife. Through the characters of Socrates and Hamlet,
readers are offered two contrasting outlooks on death. On one side, Hamlet is haunted by the fear of
the unknown, and leads his morality astray. Inversely, Socrates portrays a man who is relieved by the
prospect of death. Both Hamlet and Socrates demonstrate inherent differences in their internal
characteristics, but most notable difference is the characters contrasting outlooks on the meaning of
life and death. Socrates, considered the leader of philosophy, WANTS to die, because only in the
afterlife will he be able to see the truth without the distractions of his body. Hamlet, on the other hand,
fears what will happen in the afterlife. He would like to escape his life, which at the moment is
nothing short of depressing, but he worries that the afterlife might prove to be a bad dream, even
worse than his life at this moment.
In Phaedo, Socrates uses what he believes to be philosophical truths in order to convince his twice
seven that the soul is eternal, and the body corrupts it. Therefore Socrates goes on to comment that
any true philosopher would gladly face death

  • 2. Tissue Engineering Scaffold Preliminary Data 3: Tissue engineering scaffolds comprised of decellularized myocardial extracellular matrix effectively emulate the natural cardiac environment. In order to best reconstruct the damaged tissue of a heart following myocardial infarction, the chemical and biological cues that dictate cell recruitment and differentiation in the native tissues are required. Each human tissue contains its own specific combination of proteins and proteoglycans within the ECM to facilitate this process, so it serves that scaffold material obtained from the heart would best serve to reconstruct cardiac tissue (Singelyn et al. 2009). Modifying the scaffold into an injectable form would allow for the noninvasive delivery of the therapy directly to the affected site. Previous studies on the gelation of a decellularized porcine myocardium ECM scaffold have found it satisfactory in mimicking the natural environment of the heart (Singelyn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To prepare the injectable ECM hydrogel, ventricular porcine myocardium will be decellularized with SDS and processed into an injectable solution through lyophilization and partial pepsin digestion (Singelyn et al. 2009; Singelyn et al. 2012). Final solubilized myocardial matrix will be brought to pH 8 and kept on ice until gelation. Fluorinated PCL beads will be fabricated by mixing a liquid PCL solution with 0.14 M pentadecafluorooctanoyl chloride. After mixing at low speed for 24 hours at room temperature, the solution will be dialyzed, lyophilized, and exposed to UV light (365 nm) to polymerize into beads (Wijekoon et al. 2013). Prior to combination with the solubilized myocardial matrix, the PCL beads need to be placed in an aseptic oxygen chamber (7.5 x 6.0 x 4.0 cm3; O2 flow rate, 5 mL/hour) for oxygen saturation. Afterwards, the oxygenated fluorinated PCL beads should be immediately combined with the solubilized myocardial matrix to form the liquid hydrogel precursor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Piaget s Developmental Stages Essay Piaget s developmental stages are ways of normal intellectual development. There are four different stages. The stages start at infant age and work all the way up to adulthood. The stages include things like judgment, thought, and knowledge of infants, children, teens, and adults. These four stages were names after Jean Piaget a developmental biologist and psychologist. Piaget recorded intellectual abilities and developments of infants, children, and teens. The four different stages of Piaget s developmental stages are sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational. Sensorimotor is from birth up to twenty four months of age. Preoperational which is toddlerhood includes from eighteen months old all the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I handed my infant niece, Harper, a set of keys, thinking she would shake them and giggle at the noise they made. I thought this because in Piaget s developmental stage, sensorimotor, it states that infants learn from experimenting and their main focus is what is happening in that very moment. My prediction was correct. As soon as I held the keys in front of her she began to reach for them. Then once I handed the keys to her, she rattled them making a clanging noise. The preoperational stage is when infants become older, young children and they are able to think in a more symbolic way. In this stage children start to learn the difference between real and make believe, past and future. They tend to have more of an imagination as they grow older. Children in the preoperational stage still are not completely logical with their thinking. They go more off intuition. Do more of what they want to do, not what is the best thing to do. They are still too young to grasp the concept of cause and effect. They also do not understand time and comparison yet. My niece, Arianna, plays house and has baby dolls. She pretends like she is a mother to her baby dolls. Even though this is make believe she is playing the role of a mother to her baby doll. This connects to Piaget s developmental stage of preoperational because her thinking is not completely logical, but she knows that the baby is not actually real. I think that this is how most little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Human Population And Its Impact On The Environment All populations of species are limited to a specific number, called its carrying capacity, which refers to the ability of an ecosystem to support their needs. Once a population grows to the point where it extends past the limit, the environment no longer has the capacity to support them and individuals must die to stabilize the population. Humans are no exception to this rule, as their populations are constrained by such density dependent factors as the availability of food, land, and other resources. Growth in the human population in particular, profoundly worsens the effect on the environment as well, based on the IPAT equation which states that population directly contributes to environmental impact. With the rapid growth that the human population is undergoing, researchers predict that humanity is overshooting their carrying capacity and will soon face a collapse; however, the ability to use technology to efficiently maximize resource allocation while minimizing environmental impact raises a debate of whether or not humans will be able to continue living as they are now. The article, Limits to Growth was Right by the Guardian evaluates the predictions put forth in the book, Limits to Growth, according to recent studies from the University of Melbourne. Published in 1972, Limits to Growth presents the results of a study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in which researchers created a complex mathematical program to estimate the future of population, ... After 2014 inspections were made and no flaws were detected so it was left unchanged. In 1967, the construction crew had the task of spanning the Tex Wash to connect the freeway between California and Arizona along the Chuckwalla Mountains. They decided the best, and most cost effective, way of doing this is by channeling a dry riverbed and narrowing it where the bridge was to stand. The theme that Alex Turner, the song s writer, could be trying to get across is that love is very difficult to let go of. In the song, Turner writes Been wondering if your heart s still open and if so I wanna know what time it shuts. These lyrics express his questions about the way she feels for him. Turner also continually questions in the song Do I wanna know? , which really highlights the indecision he is facing. He is afraid she doesn t feel the same way towards him and he doesn t want to hear that. The chorus also contains the powerful lyrics: Ever thought of calling when you ve had a few?/ Cause I always do (Turner). In this line he seems to explain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. A Synagogue Experience Essay I have always been interested in learning about religion in conjunction with experiencing it. Growing up I was raised in a Christian home and learned very little about any other religion including other monotheistic religion. Judaism is the religion that I knew the least about and decided that the best possible way for me to learn more was to experience it. I had only ever heard of Judaism in a comical or historical way. I chose to go to a Synagogue to further my knowledge and experience Judaism first hand. I called ahead to Temple Sinai in Denver and arranged a time to visit with Rabbi Richard Rheins. It just so happened that a class from Red Rocks was also planning a visit and I was encouraged to join them as well. I was able to attend a special service on November 11th, Veterans Day. This service was very different than what I had expected. It was a Shabbat service that included a naming, an honoring of veterans, as well as two bat mitzvah announcements. I had to dress in business casual attire and received snacks and drinks at the end called nosh. I had heard previously that during a Shabbat service the Torah was brought out and during the service that I had attended, it was not. • 9. Hannibal Lecter s Identity and Ethos Essay Hannibal Lecter s Identity and Ethos Anthony Hopkins, as Hannibal raises a few interesting ideas about reality, identity and our perception of the serial killer. First of all, the movie would have never been made if Hopkins, had not agreed to do the sequel (Sterritt). Second, even though Hopkins, has taken on numerous roles, his memorable roles (besides as Hannibal Lecter) are not so villainous such as his characters in Remains of the Day or Shadowlands. In relation to this ethnography of the audience viewing the film, Hannibal s ethos is directly tied to Hopkins, ethos and it shows in audience reactions. The character, Hannibal, could be analyzed within any of Baudrillard s four orders, as aspects of his character fit into any one of the categories. Under the first order, Hannibal may be seen as a symbol or sign of an actual serial killer who may live in the present doing similar things. However, our morality resists this notion because we don t want to believe such evil exists in reality. But, to complicate matters, Dr. Lecter is a psychiatrist by trade. As a psychiatrist, he shows he is educated, well mannered, and intelligent not our typical image of a serial killer. If the words and images of the media represent reality within this first order, the psychiatrist or psychotherapist is increasingly important in today s society as the person who guides decisions and lives of people in therapy thus eliminating morality and replacing it with relativism to the self. Therefore, as a well mannered and polite psychiatrist, Hannibal gains credibility with the audience and thus becomes a protagonist figure. So our basic reality in resisting the evil nature of Hannibal is supported by his occupation and intelligence. Within the context of the second order, Hannibal s character represents something that masks reality. An analysis of this order leads to questions of Hannibal s identity mixed in with his ethos and the nature of the horror film genre. The largest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jules Verne s science fiction novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea delivers profound insight into historical events which influenced the work. Through Verne s descriptive style, one is able to ascertain various political and foreign policy aspects that involved France during the time the novel was written. In addition, worldly issues and struggles can be accurately assessed. Due to Verne s detail and determination to explore questions of liberty and authority, it is evident that he largely incorporates personal opinion and ideas into his works ( Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea Literature and Its Times). Verne also integrates Victorian Era interest such as technology and science. Although many facets of Twenty Thousand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The destruction of the Russian warship provides a supreme indication of who Verne supported in the conflicts between Russian and Poland. Verne sympathizes with the suffering of the Polish people and aspires for them to obtain independence from their oppressors. It should be noted that Verne s opinion reflects those of many in France who objected passionately to the Russians brutal punishment of the Poles ( Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea Literature and Its Times). It became clearly evident to Pierre Jules Hetzel, Verne s publisher, that a scene involving the destruction of a Russian warship by a Pole would result in severe political ramifications. Hetzel feared that destroying a Russian warship in Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea could anger the Russian government and produce some form of retaliation. It should be noted that France had been in opposition of Russia in the Crimean War, which came to a conclusion in 1856. Taking into consideration the closeness of the Crimean War and the release of the first manuscript of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea in 1868, one can speculate that France did not want to risk engagement in another war with Russia. In addition, during the time Verne was finishing his first manuscript, the Prussians were on the move in Denmark and Austria, and many in the French government feared that France would be next on their list ( Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea Literature and Its Times). ... These diversion programs use group counseling as a mandatory component of sentencing demonstrate initial success in reducing recidivism rates in national outcome studies. The goal of these diversion programs are to keep adolescents out of the juvenile justice system whenever possible (Lipsey, Howell, Kelly, Chapman, Carver, 2010). These diversion programs divert adolescents from entering the juvenile justice system and offer alternatives to formal disciplinary action. Teen courts (also called Youth Courts) are a growing type of diversion program that utilize a therapeutic approach, with over 1,050 teen youth courts currently operating in the United States. They are designed to promote restorative justice, encouraging the youth to restore the damages his or her behaviors caused to the community. Paul writes as if he is speaking directly to husbands and their wives. Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord, because the husband is the head of the wife as also Christ is the head of the church he himself being the savior of the body. Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her to sanctify her by cleansing her with the washing of the water by the word, so that he may present the church to himself as glorious not having a stain or wrinkle, or any such blemish, but holy and blameless. Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Eph. 1:3) Paul praises God for two things, spiritual blessings and the redemption in Christ. (Eph. 1:3 14) Next Paul takes time to give thanks and prays for the Ephesian believers in his letter. • 17. Immigration And Citizenship Immigration and Citizenship in Ancient Rome and Today An issue that has always been of concern in America is that of Immigration, and citizenship. The United States has at times been a blessed sanctuary for those of foreign nationalities, and has at others been an unwelcoming, ostracizing place. However, for most of our history, the rights and privileges of United States citizenship have been an alluring proposition for those of more underprivileged means. The same could be said about the rights and privileges of Roman citizenship in ancient times. The infrastructure, safety and freedoms of Rome and the Roman government where unmatched. When a nation attracts large masses the way that the United States does and the way that Rome once did, the dilemma occurs of how exactly to go about allowing people to immigrate to, and gain citizenship into the nation. Ancient Rome had very clear regulations for dealing with these issue, and today, the United States does as well. If one were a person living in the middle to eastern part of Europe from roughly 700 B.C.E to 450 A.D., there were many ways one could have come across Rome. One may have heard stories of a warring nation, within which there is revolutionary government, revolutionary civil rights for the time, and rich commerce, one may simply live near the nation, and have found yourself interested, or alternatively, one could be the former citizen of a nation or sovereignty which Rome has just conquered. In contrast, the humanistic approach emphasised the conscious awareness of needs, choices and personal responsibilities of the individual (Lahey, 2009). They believed that the personal worth of the particular individual, the centrality of human values, and the creative and active nature of human beings was what defined the person (McLeod, 2007). Basically, the humanistic approach, according to Abraham Maslow, was that humans are born good and that human nature is compassionate and positive (Larsen Buss, 2012). Both the psychoanalytic and humanistic theories differ from one another in multiple ways. One of the most prominent differences is their view on human nature. As mentioned above, Freud and his psychoanalytic concept, viewed humans as inherently bad. The id, he defined, operated solely on the pleasure principle, craving immediate gratification without consideration about moral values and the harm it could cause (McLeod, 2008). He also believed that the ego and the superego was the minds way of controlling the id ((Lahey, 2009; Larsen Buss, 2012; McLeod, 2008). In contrast, humanistic psychologists viewed human nature as fundamentally good. Maslow had a positive view on men, believing that each had the ability to grow and mature into proper beings, and make use of their full potential (Boeree, 2000 Larsen Buss, 2012). Although many believe it to be ominous, death, signifies an end to this earthly and material life; the life of which we are sure of. Plato s Phaedo and Shakespeare s play Hamlet offer different perspectives on the life we are unsure of, namely death or the afterlife. Through the characters of Socrates and Hamlet, readers are offered two contrasting outlooks on death. On one side, Hamlet is haunted by the fear of the unknown, and leads his morality astray. Inversely, Socrates portrays a man who is relieved by the prospect of death. Both Hamlet and Socrates demonstrate inherent differences in their internal characteristics, but most notable difference is the characters contrasting outlooks on the meaning of life and death. Socrates, considered the leader of philosophy, WANTS to die, because only in the afterlife will he be able to see the truth without the distractions of his body. Hamlet, on the other hand, fears what will happen in the afterlife. He would like to escape his life, which at the moment is nothing short of depressing, but he worries that the afterlife might prove to be a bad dream, even worse than his life at this moment.
