Evolution Of Athenian Democracy Essay
Evolution of Democracy and the Athenian Constitution
Democracy is defined in modern times as government by the people. To put that in perspective and
better understand all that democracy entails we must consider its origins. It is surprising indeed that
even today tyrannies and dictatorships exist in the world when more than two and a half thousand
years ago the ancient Athenians had developed a functional and direct form of democracy. What
contributed to this remarkable achievement and how it changed the socio political scene in Athens is
what will be considered in this paper.
The paper will have three sections, each detailing the various stages of political development from the
kings of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Honor was a competitive concept in Greek society. This held true not only for individuals but also for
the highly competitive city states or poleis. Hence they were constantly at war with each other whether
to add to their holdings or on issues of politics with the losing side ending up enslaved (for example
the Messenians who were defeated and enslaved by the Spartans). This constant internal military
pressure was the very catalyst that caused gradual changes over hundreds of years. Since kings were
hereditary therefore it was always not possible to find a capable general as well as administrator in one
person. The inevitable result was that the ancient warrior class the aristocrats who formed the bulk of
the army as the cavalry by virtue of owning horses took the power of the general for themselves. This
was the beginning of the second stage in the development of the constitution. Thus the office of
Polemarch (leader in war) was instituted due to incompetence in war of some kings (Aristotle and
Xenophon, p: 148).
Consequently the office of Archon was established to manage the administration of the state and now
the king, who was called King Archon, was left with only the vestigial religious functions. According
to Aristotle, for the early offices the tenure was initially for life and then for ten years. Though his

James Monroe s Beliefs During The Era Of Good Feelings
The War of 1812 was fought between the United States and Britain over British seizures of American
ships, British aid to Native American tribes, and the American desire to restore confidence in the
republican experiment. Two years after the Treaty of Ghent was signed in 1814, James Monroe was
elected as the fifth president of the United States. During his presidency, the term Era of Good
Feelings was coined. This phrase referred to the peace and prosperity of the United States between
1817 and 1824. During the Era of Good Feelings, there was an increase in nationalism and
sectionalism. These beliefs developed concurrently due to the unification of Americans through a
strong, independent economy, the spread of nationalistic literature, art, ... Show more content on

Besides authors like Washington Irving and James Fenimore Cooper who wrote books based in
America, there were also poets and distinguished individuals who spread the idea of unity. For
example, a poet named Joseph Rodman Drake wrote a poem titled The American Flag in 1819
(Document 2). His poem was a tribute to the American flag and to the principles which America was
founded on, such as freedom. The American Flag was similar to other poems and literature at that time
in that it made Americans proud of their country. Before the Era of Good Feelings, there were not
many books or poems that were about America, nonetheless about American pride and nationalism.
Drake s poem helped nationalism rise because it allowed the beliefs of pride and unity to spread
around the nation. Speech was another important method in the spread of nationalism. Stephen
Decatur was an American naval officer who helped lead a major military victory against the Barbary
Pirates. After the victory, he gave a patriotic toast that highlighted his pride for America. (Document
1) In the toast, Decatur stated that America would be right in any foreign affair, no matter the
situation. This statement in 1819 showed Decatur s unwavering loyalty and support to the United
States. Decatur s statement about the United States helped increase nationalism because it showed that

Essay on Ethical, Legal and Regulatory Analysis
Ethical, Legal and Regulatory Analysis Intro It has become a growing epidemic for company s to
regulate their ethical and legal standings. From the employee s working within the company, to those
consumers taking in the products and services that the company is shelling out, these specifics are
things that just about everyone would like to know. Within each company whether they conduct their

Defining Underachievement
Under achievement is a threatening position to educators and can be a disruptive force throughout
education systems. The idea of under achievement suggests that the systems is at fault because
students do not reach their potential under the guidance of that system. The purpose of this essay is to
analyze the idea or terminology of under achievement in the context of my specific teaching scenario.
I will present my argument by first, introducing literature that has been specifically enlightening
towards the subject. This essay will then highlight my personal experiences with this phenomenon in
my own class room and how certain experiences have helped me define what under achievement
actually is and can help me recognize its features in the future. Lastly, this essay will offer some
guidelines in fixing the problems that will be indentified in examining under achievement, and focus
on strategies that may be useful in improving this particular area of education and learning.
Defining Under Achievement Under achievement is a difficult idea to grasp in its entirety due to its
reliance on forecasted expectations. It is important to realize that educators are not prophets and
cannot successfully predict the academic success of students based on past performance. Although we
cannot fully capture, qualitatively what under achievement really consists of, this idea is better
understood in a subjective manner. Reiss (2009) suggested that there are six motives that can identify

Comparison Of Andrew Jackson And The Battle Of New Orleans
(Discredit) (Intro) Stories such as theses are fantastic tall tale, but it is not a true representation of the
real tale. (DS) This tale exaggerated a great deal about the details of the battle. Not to mention that it is
also a one sided story that makes it feel as if the Americans lost barely any men. Furthermore, this
story also brings a relatively unrealistic view of the military, as if they were a tangled grove of
unkempt trees with many species (Dendrographia). (TH) Truly, these are just a few of the reasons I
will refute Andrew Jackson and the Battle of New Orleans, and disorganized scrap of fiction.

(ST) Even if Jackson was the only one who could save the day, it is not likely that the outnumbered,

easily for untrained soldiers? (CA) Someone might say, It was the American spirit that helped them
win. (ACA) However one might retort, But the British, who had just beaten the French, would have
high in spirit similarly. (DL) Consequently, either the British did not think that defeating the French
was something to be proud of, or this never happened. (CA) The Americans had the upper hand, for
they had the barracks. Another might argue. (DL) In conclusion either the Redcoats had never been
trained to win battles that seemed to not bend in their favor, or they won the battle. (ST) It is unlikely
that the Americans defeated the Lobsterbacks. (Impossibility) (TR) Let us say that the vastly
outnumbered Americans defeated their foes, (RQ) why would the British infantry march out in the
open? (GT) It is quite impossible that a general would risk the lives of his militia by bringing them out
into the open. (RQ) If a grand, highly decorated general of war was known for demolishing large
French armies with ease, then how could he and his men loose to a motley mob of soldiers? (ST)

The Positive Impact Of Reconstruction
Just imagine that you were born when slavery was allowed in the United States. Better yet, imagine
yourself as an African American/ black and being born into slavery. What would you do? Would you
try to escape to freedom or remain a slave and serve your master until you die or until slavery is
totally abolished? Well that s when the Reconstruction Era comes in. The Civil War was a major cause
that led to the Reconstruction Era. This was due to the Union winning the war between them and the
South. The end of this war was thought to give freedom, peace, and stop the suffering of slaves all
over the country, but the South didn t want to let go of slavery that easily. Reconstruction was when
the South was rebuilding and also when the country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When people heard of what happened to Colby, it showed how much African Americans/ blacks have
grown in a country that would never allow them to have any kind of power, but that encouraged many
of them to keep moving up in power. Once they noticed that they made it really far, they start to speak
for other African Americans/ blacks and their voice is worth a lot because it started to have great
impact in society. Socially, the impact that reconstruction had on it was positive because African
Americans were starting to being allowed to vote and that s not all, they also started building more
churches. One example of how reconstruction had a positive impact socially can be found in
Document K. Within this document that was created by the U.S. Constitution, it provides us with brief
information about what the 13, 14, and 15th Amendments say. The 15th Amendment specifically
states, The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United
States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous conditions of servitude... This impact was
positive because for African Americans/ blacks being given the chance to vote for the country that
they were born in meant a lot. It meant a lot to them because for them, voting was the chance

1. What is the best way to increase value the most, given the following information for one customer?
Base Case: Perceived benefits $50 and Price $10.00
Improvement Option A: Perceived benefits $65 and Price $13.00
Improvement Option B: Perceived benefits $65 and Price $12.50
Improvement Option C: Perceived benefits $60 and Price $12.50
We derive the following (using the formula, value = perceived benefits / price (cost) to the customer):
* Base Case: value = (50/10) = 5 * Option A: value = (65/13) = 5 * Option B: value = (65/12.50) =
5.20 * Option C: value = (60/12.50) = 4.80
The option B is the best way to increase value the most (but the cost to the customer is higher, and the

Use productivity arguments to recommend whether or not to change the current system.
Using the formula:
= 50 / 1 = 50 = 90 / 3 = 30 It is better not to change the system, since a single worker can handle 50
cars per hour (taking orders, assembling them and acting as a cashier), on the other hand, 3 workers
(one taking orders, the second assembling them, and the third acting as cashier) would handle 30 cars
each. 10. What is the average value of a loyal customer (VLC) in a target market segment if the
average purchase price is $75 per visit, the frequency of repurchase is six times per year, the

The Latin Of Latin Language
The written Latin language changed minimally from the time it was used in Antiquity to the time it
was used in the Medieval Era due to it not being spoken frequently in everyday situations. Instead of
learning Latin by hearing others speak it, just as one learned Old English or French during this time,
one needed to have a connection with the Church in order to be taught the language, or they needed to
hear others speak it. The Latin taught by the Church was undeviating throughout Europe, and as a
result all students learned the same Latin for centuries. However, common people who were
uneducated still spoke the language as a second language during the early medieval era, and because
of their lack of education in the language, the grammar became less steadfast and the spelling saw
some changes. Although the written Latin language did not evolve as drastically as it had the potential
to, it underwent certain grammatical changes that were set off by Jerome s use of altered grammar in
the Latin Vulgate. Jerome borrowed constructions from the other languages the Bible had been written
in and other authors used these alterations later. As a result, these altered constructions, which had
gone unchanged for hundreds of years, were made permanent in time because the Vulgate was a
broadly used resource for Latin. If it had not been for Jerome s initial changes in the grammar of the
Latin in the Vulgate, then Latin would not have evolved and would have stayed even more similar to

Analysis Of Translation Nation By Hector Tovar
The book Translation Nation by Hector Tovar begins by telling his own story, and how migrating to
Los Angeles from Guatemala changed his parents and shaped his. Not only that, but how iconic Che
Guevara was to his family, even comparing him to god. He continued by showing the similarities in
Los Angeles and New York, how the Latino immigrants were following in the steps of those from
around Europe, assimilating and creating a community of their own. Then he began talking about the
border between Tijuana, Mexico, and California. Describing the emptiness of the beach that day, and
the fact that many people from all over Mexico were wandering the streets of Tijuana, waiting for
nightfall to cross the border. Also describing the tactics border patrol use to find the immigrants before
they cross. Even including interviews with people waiting to cross, some knowing the tactics of border
patrol and others clueless, following el coyote y el pollero. In addition, Tovar went undercover,
pretending to be an immigrant looking for work, and experienced first hand the process. Throughout
the book, he includes the story of many people who he met along the way. Their stories helped write
the book, and give a more personal meaning to it. The first group described in the book would be all
those trying to cross the border. Tovar met many people who were trying to cross the border or had
successfully crossed or got caught. All those who cross the border face exploitation, mediocre living

Summary
We recommend proceeding with proposed investment plan with some revision. Detail analyses and
rationalities state in the following sections.
Industry Analysis
Japan s beer industry is concentrated and highly regulated. The industry was projected to grow by
approximate 7.6% for 1988 as 1987 realized growth. There were mainly four kinds of beers: Dry,
Draft, Lager, Melt. Consumer taste was graduating changing. Their preferences were switching from
Lager beer to dry and draft beer. The government has tremendous power in this industry in terms of
price and distribution (a distributor or retailer needs a license issued by the government to sell beers).
Therefore, both the beer license and structure of distribution channels ... Show more content on

Absence, or even a poor execution, of any of these three elements could lead to the logic of strategy to
fail.
Investment Analysis
Strategic Perspective
Strategically, Asahi s investment plan was sound. Before the big hit of Dry Beer , Asahi was
considered a marginal player in the market with a 10% market share. As the taste of Japanese
consumers shifted towards dry beer, we expect that the dry beer sector would become the driver of the
beer industry. As shown in the case, the share of draft beer sales (dry beer was considered one type of
draft beers) had increased from 21% in 1980 to 50% in 1987. Asahi became a leader in this sector with
a 54.1% as calculated with the monthly sales numbers in 1988.
However, during the Dry War initiated by its competitors, Asahi was only able to supply 70% of the
orders placed in the summer of 1988. This caused not only lost sales, but also failure to match
distributors expectations of the firm, thus threatening the firm s leadership position in the sector. With
the expansion plan, Asahi would be able to satisfy demands in a fast increasing sector.
Since the retail price of beer in Japan was virtually regulated at a uniform level by the government, the
competition was about creating capacity to satisfy demand and delivering beers through the
distribution network. Two key factors are capacity and distribution network.

Eye-Opening Lessons Learned In Alex Haley s Popular Book
In 1977, the television miniseries Roots first aired on ABC. It was based of Alex Haley s popular book
released in 1976. The story is about Alex Haley s ancestors, tracing all the way to Africa. It starts with
a teenage boy, Kunta Kinte, who was born in Gambia in West Africa. When Kunta is looking for some
wood to make a drum, he gets captured and that is when the long adventure begins. There were three
really eye opening lessons I learned about slavery: the boat ride to American was painful and most did
not survive, slaves were not allowed to read or write, and after the Civil War and slaves were free,
they were still treated badly and still not considered equal. First, coming to America on the slave ship
was an awful ordeal. When Captain Thomas Davies saw the slave ship blueprints, the horrors started
to sink in. The slaves were chained up and squeezed in tight for maximum profit. They were put under
the deck and got sea sick alot. Workers on the ship would also rape the female slaves for pleasure. One
time, Captain Thomas Davies was in his cabin and Mr Slater came in and offered him a female slave
for pleasure. The female slave looked horrified and Captain Thomas Davies refused to take her

However, to embrace the exiles from Judah in their circumstances and reflect on the message of God

In chapter 29, one hears Jeremiah say to accept servitude to the Babylonians. The Judeans have come
under punishment from God for their sins. They have received the punishment due to them according
to God and their lives it seems at this point are at the hands of their enemies the Babylonians even
though their fate is in God s hands. Jeremiah continues to speak out prophetically fighting against
those who are false prophets who are intent on telling the people warm and fuzzy lies to cover up and
deny the brokenness that has caused them to be in exile. God has spoken to Jeremiah of why Judah
must be in exile, why Judah must come to terms with what has happened to them. Jeremiah knows
God wants Judah to turn and repent for turning away from God but the people do not listen to
Jeremiah. When the people finally listen to Jeremiah they are already in exile in Babylonia. Jeremiah
must send letters to proclaim God s Word to them. Jeremiah was one of those who were left behind in
Judah. Jeremiah was left behind seeing the destruction of Jeremiah s homeland first hand. Jeremiah
has been deemed the weeping prophet because of Jeremiah s deep care and love for the people of
Judah and for God. Jeremiah feels not only the grief God experiences for having to destroy the people
but Jeremiah feels the grief of the people being destroyed. Jeremiah weeps in chapter 9 because
Jeremiah knows what is coming. But on the other hand, Jeremiah wanted to see the truth of God s
reality come to fruition because Jeremiah knew of God s great love for God s people. The ethos
Jeremiah uses in the prophetic word Jeremiah speaks is genuine and in no way false as the words of

The Study Of Barbara Green
The Study of Barbara Green
Jaclyn Fallaria
Topic 1
Aging 200
Madjaroff
My patient, Barbara Green, has a daughter named Ivy. Ivy has come to me with concerns that her
mother has not been taking any of her medication to treat her diabetes and heart disease. She says that
if she does not prompt her mother to take the medication, she will forget to take it for days. Ivy is
worried about her mother and describes instances when Barbara seems to be day dreaming and
becomes confused. Sometimes Barbara does not know who Ivy is. That is worrisome. I am going to
do some research on Alzheimer s and dementia, and see if Barbara could be developing either or both
of these illnesses. I will analyze the symptoms, compare my findings to my patients symptoms, and
produce a diagnosis and treatment for my patient. I will start research on dementia before focusing on
Alzheimer s because dementia is a broad diagnosis and Alzheimer s falls under that disease. Majority
of the people that suffer from dementia also suffer with symptoms of Alzheimer s. In fact about 25
million people and counting are affected by it (Chong, 2005). The other common forms of dementia
include Lewy Body, Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration, and Vascular. October 28, 2015: Ivy Green
called today. She said she is very sure that something is wrong with her mother. She said when she
came home from buying groceries, Barbara was not home. Ivy searched for a couple hours until she
found Barbara at the park. Ivy

Carl Sandburg Research Papers
On January 6, 1878 Carl Sandburg was born in Illinois in a cottage situated near the railroad tracks.
He was born on top of a corn husk mattress, to his father and mother; August and Clara Sandburg.
Both August and Clara were Swedish immigrants. Carl s father disliked and discouraged his interest in
books while his mother heavily encouraged reading and his education. Sandburg s life was an epic
story that included him being a hobo and working a large variety of jobs. Carl dropped out of school
during the eighth grade and immediately started working. He spent short periods doing things like:
learning the tinner s business, washing bottles in a pop botteling works, learning the potter s skill,

This taught him to hear poetry in the everyday words and conversations, as well as see harmonies in a

delivered the papers from Chicago. He earned insight from the newspaper business and obtained an
interest in the newspaper field. His father bought him free pass to Chicago on the CB Q, in June 1896.
Carl s visit provided him with inspiration for many years. His first visit that June planted the seed of
his poetic vision, and made him the poet he was. When he turned eighteen he had experienced most of
the influences and developed the interests that would create the foundation of his work. After
returning from Chicago Carl said, I m going away. I m going to be a writer. And if I can t be a writer, I

The Progression Of Advanced Technology Single Handedly...
The progression of advanced technology single handedly alters humans at a biological level and shifts
human intelligence into a new frontier. We now have instantaneous access to the internet through our

This is the question many expert media theorists and journalists ask, and a clear answer is not manifest
due to it being pure supposition and speculation, regardless of the expertise and experience of these
experts. I think, along with many other distinguished technologists, that our future is optimistic,
assuming we gain the power to overcome upcoming obstacles with technology in the present. We will
have to learn to engineer technology based on human interaction and be able to regulate social
behaviors around these particular hindrances. These issues at hand, are widely debated nowadays, and
will most likely will be debated more and more as we draw nearer to the era of extraordinarily capable
and powerful artificial intelligence. This subject matter brings up many inherently significant
philosophical matters. This topic forces us to consider the foundation of human intelligence, and how
that groundwork could be expanded upon and implemented within our future s technology. If we
surpasses innate human boundaries with technology, do our mortal understandings of ethics and
morality still stand, when we are no longer the superior creatures? It is absolutely imperative that we
learn to observe and define how intelligence ran within computer processors varies from the intellect
that exists naturally within the human mind. To what degree will our biological

Emotional Infidelity And Gender Analysis
Over the course of evolution, men and women have developed different emotional responses to
unfaithfulness in relationships. Since men often have less parental investment and are more concerned
about reproduction itself and the passing of genes, they won t be as emotionally upset due to infidelity,
but rather would be sexually jealous if their partner was cheating. On the other hand, women tend to
be more involved in parenting, thus making it more difficult to raise offspring without their male
counterpart, making them more emotionally offended when their partner cheats. (Buss, Larsen,
Westen Semmelroth, 1992). The degree to which different ranges of emotions occur in men versus
woman have also been studied. Previous research indicates that ... Show more content on

Additionally, the overall lack of racial diversity in the sample may have adjusted the data since it is
likely that a large proportion of the participants were raised with similar values and perceptions of
emotional and sexual relationships. This issue may be attested to the fact that the overall composition
of the student body at this college lacks significant diversity; this particular sample of students was
fairly proportional to the population of the college as a whole. Finally, the methods used in no way

Essay Review of Shrek
Review of Shrek In traditional fairy tales, ogres are man eating beasts; they are regarded as being one
of the most evil and hideous creatures in fairytales. The prince is derived as a charming and handsome

Amazon And Starbucks Management Systems
Conviction of Amazon and Starbucks Fortune 500 companies are considered to be the prevalent and
best run businesses across the nation. The status symbol given to Fortune 500 companies proves that
the business is successful and the level of success for these industries is very few. This paper will
address comparing and contrasting Amazon and Starbucks management systems and how they support
innovation. In addition, pros and cons of their management system will be addressed to determine
their leadership and cultural differences.
Overarching Leadership Common leadership traits of both Amazon and Starbucks successful and
admired fortune 500 companies are their ability to adapt creatively and effectively to challenges and
change. Strong and active coping skills is how they recover from setbacks, are open to opinions of
other people around them and are ultimately aware of their strengths and shortcomings (cite).
Innovation at Amazon Incorporated in 1994 (cite), the admiration that comes from Amazon s
relentless focus on good execution and leadership principles is what makes Amazon such a successful
business. The premise that everyone at Amazon is a leader is the foundation of the leadership
approach used in this company. They start with the customer comes first and then work backwards.
Their vigorous strategy is to earn and keep the trust of their customers. Although attention is high in
the area of competition, they fixate over their customers.

The Negative Effects Of Smoking In Public Places
Smoking should be banned in public places
The government of the United States, should ban smoking in all public places because of the adverse
effects of passive smoking on smokers, non smokers and the environment.
In the recent years, the population of people who smoke in the US has significantly increased. People
still choose to smoke even when they have adequate knowledge of how unhealthy smoking can be.
Smoking is a personal choice for any individual. Moreover, it is a highly addictive habit. It is a
personal choice by any smoker to subject himself or herself to the health risks of smoking. The
government has no role or responsibility to decide whether an individual should be permitted to smoke
or not. However, smoking in public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Banning smoking safeguards one s life and also the life of the public. By prohibiting smoking in
public areas, it promotes a good healthier environment for all people. People of United States of
America will love it as a government effort to reinstate a healthier lifestyle of everybody.
On the other part, smoking should not be banned in public areas as any decision on banning smoking
will cause an adverse imbalance in the society. Many people rely on the employment generated by the
tobacco industry in the United States. The tobacco industry is a source of revenue to the government
used in the development of healthcare facilities and infrastructure. Smoking was ban in restaurants, in
non hospitality workplaces and bars. There was no state wide ban until July 2015 when it was
exercised in North Dakota but was ratified by voters in 2012.
The reasons why many people smoke in public is because it makes them lessen stress, relax and
improve concentration. People do smoke during office breaks. Students also smoke before exams.
Smoking is important to these individuals because it assists them to cope up with a different situation
and boosts their confidence. In some cases, people smoke when they feel bored. People are fully
satisfied and relieved when they smoke. Hence, smoking in public places should not be banned
because they will be compromising with the rights of smokers.
Another argument for smoking by teenagers in public places is

Sinus And Skull Base Surgery
Intra Operative Image Guidance in Sinus and Skull Base Surgery
Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) using rigid endoscopes has developed into becoming the
mainstay treatment for opening obstructed outflow tracts of the paranasal sinuses. However,
limitations surrounding FESS have resulted in intra operative Image Guidance Systems (IGS) to
improve outcomes in complex skull base procedures. A principal limitation of the endoscopic
endonasal approach is the availability of only a two dimensional view, with surgeons instead
localising instruments based partly on their depth of penetration and tactile sensation. The restricted
nature of the sinonasal tract and the complex arrangement of adjacent vital structures (carotid artery,

IGS were first developed for the application in neurosurgical procedures to determine precise
anatomical locations, which was deemed to be primordial. The 1970 s saw the trial of computed
tomography (CT) assisted location systems for focal destruction in stereotactic brain surgery. (3 5)
These early devices impeded efficient sinus surgery with the need for reference frames fixated to the
cranium and positioning of fiducial markers. During the 1980 s, multiple systems were constructed to
bypass the need for reference frames, localising instead by acoustic or ultrasound triangulation or even
articulated arms. During this timeframe, referencing was always in accordance to fiducial markers.(6)
Innovative systems dedicated to endonasal surgery progressed in the 1990s through the use of infrared
diodes and opaque radio markers.(7 9) In 1994, the Americans were the first to describe computer
assisted endoscopic sinus surgery, using a frameless stereotactic system with attached articulated arms
of an ISG viewing wand.(10) The technology pertaining to intraoperative IGS in endoscopic sinus and
skull base surgery continues to develop.
IGS using either electromagnetic or optical based technologies are designed to localise surgical
instruments in the operative field. Both technologies allow for: real time detection of the position of
instruments in three dimensional imaging; are accurate to within 2mm;

Twelfth Night Shame Quotes
Although Twelfth Night is renowned for its comical nature and cross dressing, on closer examination
it appears that Shakespeare has used this comedy to have a greater effect on the audience than pure
humour, supporting Berry s statement. However, before attesting that Berry is entirely correct, we
must evaluate three things: the way in which Shakespeare makes the audience feel ashamed, whether
this shame is felt by both contemporary audiences and Elizabethan/Jacobean audiences, and whether
shame is, as Berry writes the ultimate effect .
One of the ways in which Shakespeare could be seen to cast shame upon the audience is through their
reaction to the characters treatment of Malvolio. On receiving the letter, Malvolio expresses I thank
my stars I am happy (...) Jove and my stars be praised! (...) Jove I thank thee. I will smile, I will do
everything that thou wilt have me. (Act II, Scene V, lines ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, his statement Thou say thou art a man. (Act I, Scene V, line 30) Is short, blunt and definite,
proving that he is in fact oblivious to her deception. This is yet another example of dramatic irony, as
only the audience and Viola are aware of her true identity. This irony shows us that Orsino has been
outsmarted by a female, straying from the traditional patriarchal views of women and consequentially
reinforcing Dusinberre s critique of the text. In our modern society, with this current new wave of
feminism, this message is particularly relevant, and so would arguably have a greater impact on an
audience than the shame felt from Twelfth Night would. If it is to have a greater effect, then it is
superior to Shakespeare s evocation of shame, and thus feeling ashamed cannot be the ultimate effect
of Shakespeare s Twelfth

The Real Estate Industry Is An Industry
The real estate industry is an industry where consumers can purchase, rent, or lease real estate,
manage residential, commercial, and industrial properties, and provide other real estate related
services, including appraisals (CITATAION).
The demand for real estate is driven by economic growth, personal finance, and rates of employment,
interest rates, and access to funds. (CITATION) The return on investment of an individual relies on the
value and demand of the property, which are both influenced by the economy. Real estate investors
also depend on the amount of investment capital available. Seasoned investors have a competitive
advantage based on their financial resources. Beginning investors can compete closely by focusing on
local smaller markets within the industry
Within real estate investing there are various independent variables and services that collectively
contribute to the success and major functioning of one another. The realm of these dependencies
within the industry include property and investment management, brokerage services, leasing,
valuations, relocation services (CITATION). The entities in need of the above services include,
property owners, investors, home buyers, and renters. Real estate investors generally focus in
residential or commercial properties.

The Root Cause And Conflict Of The Conflict
Defined the root cause(s) of the conflict. I would submit that the root cause of the conflict was
contingent upon the individual that you focus on. Initially, there was no root cause for conflict on
behalf of my colleague (Dora). It would be a stretch to say that she would fall under Maslow s
hierarchy of needs. She had just graduated from a surgical assistant program and applied to the
position for an increase in pay, and due to being in her current role as a nursing assistant for over 7

she could handle the situation. To her, fighting this situation would be a loss cause. Due to these
feelings of not being able to advocate for herself, she initially displayed an avoidance conflict style.
As the conflict progressed and gaining the support of the CNO) she became more collaborative in her

fairness and procedural justice was the primary reason for the conflict. Dora,

The Beat Generation Subculture Essay
The Beat Generation Subculture
Every generation has its middle class, majority, and norm, which are decided by that era s standards of
behavior and thought. Similarly, each generation has a group that rejects these standards and rebels
against the norm. In the 1950 s a group of American writers that exemplified this behavior formed.
They were called the beat generation. The beat generation was particularly remarkable because
although it was began by an exceptionally small group of people, its cultural influence was enormous.
The beats rebelled against things like conformity and consumerism in the post World War II society.
Their writing challenged both traditional American values and contemporary writing styles.

Many writers in the group later renounced the term when they felt it lost its meaning. It took the beats
a long time before they gained fame however. Jack Kerouac s novel, On the Road, went through many
different publishers before anyone agreed to print it. When it did come out it was heavily criticized by
the press. In the 1950 s the lifestyle that On the Road explored was considered deviant. The stereotype
that emerged in the mass media was a spaced out beatnik, dressed in black, pounding on bongo drums
and muttering gibberish as poetry (Microsoft Encarta, 2001). America s youth, however, identified
with the feelings of despair and the need for freedom expressed in their work. The beats created a
revolution that began with many young people leaving their conventional lives to hitchhike around
American and find themselves. Like most subcultures, the Beat Generation rebelled against the social
and cultural norms of their time. For them it was the post World War II society that they rejected.
Cultural historians point out that acquisition of consumer goods, which had been scarce during
wartime, became a central feature of postwar life, driven by the mass media, advertising, and generous
loan terms (Encarta, 2001). The

Durkheim s theory consisted of finding a problem which was suicide. He then came up with a
dependent variable which was the suicide rate. The social forces became the independent variable. The
hypothesis would be what the suicide rate would vary with. When he collected his date Durkheim
would go into detail about each individuals life and any uprising problems that he could find. He
would then analyze the data into four categories which are the three most common types of suicide
(egoistic suicide, altruistic suicide and anomic suicide). After looking at the date and matching it up
with the proper suicide type Durkheim would then draw conclusions or form a theory. These are the
details of the three most common suicides. Egoistic suicide is committed by people who are weak and
supported by membership in a cohesive social group. They start to depend a huge amount on
themselves than on group goals and rules of conduct to sustain them in their lives. When stressful
times are around they feel isolated and helpless. Altruistic suicide is committed by people who are
extremely committed to group norms and objectives and who notice their own lives as insignificant.
These suicides involved dying for some type of cause. Anomic

Firefighting In London Research Paper
England: In the UK, London suffered great fires in 798, 982, 989, 1212 and above all in 1666 (the
Great Fire of London). The Great Fire of London in 1666 set in motion changes which laid the
foundations for organized firefighting in the future. In the wake of the Great Fire, the City Council
established the first fire insurance company, The Fire Office , in 1667, which employed small teams of
Thames watermen as firefighters and provided them with uniforms and arm badges showing the
company to which they belonged. The Great Fire of 1666 started in a baker s shop on Pudding Lane,
consumed about two square miles (5 km²) of the city, leaving tens of thousands homeless. Prior to this
fire, London had no organized fire protection system. Afterwards, ... Show more content on

Manual pumps, rediscovered in Europe after 1500 (allegedly used in Augsburg in 1518 and in
Nuremberg in 1657), were only force pumps and had a very short range due to the lack of hoses.
German inventor Hans Hautsch improved the manual pump by creating the first suction and force
pumpand adding some flexible hoses to the pump. In 1672, Dutch artist, and inventor Jan Van der
Heyden s workshop developed the fire hose. Constructed of flexible leatherand coupled every 50 feet
(15 m) with brass fittings. The length remains the standard to this day in mainland Europe whilst in
the UK the standard length is either 23m or 25m. The fire engine was further developed by the Dutch
inventor, merchant and manufacturer, John Lofting (1659 1742) who had worked with Jan Van der
Heyden in Amsterdam. Lofting moved to London in or about 1688, became an English citizen and
patented (patent number 263/1690) the Sucking Worm Engine in 1690. There was a glowing
description of the firefighting ability of his device in The London Gazette of 17 March 1691, after the
issue of the patent. The British Museum has a print showing Lofting s fire engine at work in London,
the engine being pumped by a team of

To put that in perspective and better understand all that democracy entails we must consider its origins. It is surprising indeed that even today tyrannies and dictatorships exist in the world when more than two and a half thousand years ago the ancient Athenians had developed a functional and direct form of democracy. What contributed to this remarkable achievement and how it changed the socio political scene in Athens is what will be considered in this paper. The paper will have three sections, each detailing the various stages of political development from the kings of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Honor was a competitive concept in Greek society. This held true not only for individuals but also for the highly competitive city states or poleis. Hence they were constantly at war with each other whether to add to their holdings or on issues of politics with the losing side ending up enslaved (for example the Messenians who were defeated and enslaved by the Spartans). This constant internal military pressure was the very catalyst that caused gradual changes over hundreds of years. Since kings were hereditary therefore it was always not possible to find a capable general as well as administrator in one person. The inevitable result was that the ancient warrior class the aristocrats who formed the bulk of the army as the cavalry by virtue of owning horses took the power of the general for themselves. This was the beginning of the second stage in the development of the constitution. Thus the office of Polemarch (leader in war) was instituted due to incompetence in war of some kings (Aristotle and Xenophon, p: 148). Consequently the office of Archon was established to manage the administration of the state and now the king, who was called King Archon, was left with only the vestigial religious functions. According to Aristotle, for the early offices the tenure was initially for life and then for ten years. Though his descriptions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

James Monroe s Beliefs During The Era Of Good Feelings The War of 1812 was fought between the United States and Britain over British seizures of American ships, British aid to Native American tribes, and the American desire to restore confidence in the republican experiment. Two years after the Treaty of Ghent was signed in 1814, James Monroe was elected as the fifth president of the United States. During his presidency, the term Era of Good Feelings was coined. This phrase referred to the peace and prosperity of the United States between 1817 and 1824. During the Era of Good Feelings, there was an increase in nationalism and sectionalism. Besides authors like Washington Irving and James Fenimore Cooper who wrote books based in America, there were also poets and distinguished individuals who spread the idea of unity. For example, a poet named Joseph Rodman Drake wrote a poem titled The American Flag in 1819 (Document 2). His poem was a tribute to the American flag and to the principles which America was founded on, such as freedom. The American Flag was similar to other poems and literature at that time in that it made Americans proud of their country. Before the Era of Good Feelings, there were not many books or poems that were about America, nonetheless about American pride and nationalism. Drake s poem helped nationalism rise because it allowed the beliefs of pride and unity to spread around the nation. Speech was another important method in the spread of nationalism. Stephen Decatur was an American naval officer who helped lead a major military victory against the Barbary Pirates. After the victory, he gave a patriotic toast that highlighted his pride for America. (Document 1) In the toast, Decatur stated that America would be right in any foreign affair, no matter the situation. I will present my argument by first, introducing literature that has been specifically enlightening towards the subject. Better yet, imagine yourself as an African American/ black and being born into slavery. What would you do? Would you try to escape to freedom or remain a slave and serve your master until you die or until slavery is totally abolished? Well that s when the Reconstruction Era comes in. The Civil War was a major cause that led to the Reconstruction Era. This was due to the Union winning the war between them and the South. The end of this war was thought to give freedom, peace, and stop the suffering of slaves all over the country, but the South didn t want to let go of slavery that easily. Socially, the impact that reconstruction had on it was positive because African Americans were starting to being allowed to vote and that s not all, they also started building more churches. One example of how reconstruction had a positive impact socially can be found in Document K. The 15th Amendment specifically states, The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous conditions of servitude... • 11. The Latin Of Latin Language The written Latin language changed minimally from the time it was used in Antiquity to the time it was used in the Medieval Era due to it not being spoken frequently in everyday situations. Instead of learning Latin by hearing others speak it, just as one learned Old English or French during this time, one needed to have a connection with the Church in order to be taught the language, or they needed to hear others speak it. The Latin taught by the Church was undeviating throughout Europe, and as a result all students learned the same Latin for centuries. However, common people who were uneducated still spoke the language as a second language during the early medieval era, and because of their lack of education in the language, the grammar became less steadfast and the spelling saw some changes. Although the written Latin language did not evolve as drastically as it had the potential to, it underwent certain grammatical changes that were set off by Jerome s use of altered grammar in the Latin Vulgate. Jerome borrowed constructions from the other languages the Bible had been written in and other authors used these alterations later. As a result, these altered constructions, which had gone unchanged for hundreds of years, were made permanent in time because the Vulgate was a broadly used resource for Latin. If it had not been for Jerome s initial changes in the grammar of the Latin in the Vulgate, then Latin would not have evolved and would have stayed even more similar to the ... He continued by showing the similarities in Los Angeles and New York, how the Latino immigrants were following in the steps of those from around Europe, assimilating and creating a community of their own. Absence, or even a poor execution, of any of these three elements could lead to the logic of strategy to fail. Investment Analysis Strategic Perspective Strategically, Asahi s investment plan was sound. Before the big hit of Dry Beer , Asahi was considered a marginal player in the market with a 10% market share. As the taste of Japanese consumers shifted towards dry beer, we expect that the dry beer sector would become the driver of the beer industry. As shown in the case, the share of draft beer sales (dry beer was considered one type of draft beers) had increased from 21% in 1980 to 50% in 1987. Asahi became a leader in this sector with a 54.1% as calculated with the monthly sales numbers in 1988. However, during the Dry War initiated by its competitors, Asahi was only able to supply 70% of the orders placed in the summer of 1988. This caused not only lost sales, but also failure to match distributors expectations of the firm, thus threatening the firm s leadership position in the sector. With the expansion plan, Asahi would be able to satisfy demands in a fast increasing sector. Since the retail price of beer in Japan was virtually regulated at a uniform level by the government, the competition was about creating capacity to satisfy demand and delivering beers through the distribution network. Two key factors are capacity and distribution network. The Ministry of Finance

Jeremiah continues to speak out prophetically fighting against those who are false prophets who are intent on telling the people warm and fuzzy lies to cover up and deny the brokenness that has caused them to be in exile. God has spoken to Jeremiah of why Judah must be in exile, why Judah must come to terms with what has happened to them. Jeremiah knows God wants Judah to turn and repent for turning away from God but the people do not listen to Jeremiah. When the people finally listen to Jeremiah they are already in exile in Babylonia. Jeremiah must send letters to proclaim God s Word to them. Jeremiah was one of those who were left behind in Judah. The 1970 s saw the trial of computed tomography (CT) assisted location systems for focal destruction in stereotactic brain surgery. (3 5) These early devices impeded efficient sinus surgery with the need for reference frames fixated to the cranium and positioning of fiducial markers. During the 1980 s, multiple systems were constructed to bypass the need for reference frames, localising instead by acoustic or ultrasound triangulation or even articulated arms. During this timeframe, referencing was always in accordance to fiducial markers.(6) Innovative systems dedicated to endonasal surgery progressed in the 1990s through the use of infrared diodes and opaque radio markers.(7 9) In 1994, the Americans were the first to describe computer assisted endoscopic sinus surgery, using a frameless stereotactic system with attached articulated arms of an ISG viewing wand.(10) The technology pertaining to intraoperative IGS in endoscopic sinus and skull base surgery continues to develop. • 32. Twelfth Night Shame Quotes Although Twelfth Night is renowned for its comical nature and cross dressing, on closer examination it appears that Shakespeare has used this comedy to have a greater effect on the audience than pure humour, supporting Berry s statement. However, before attesting that Berry is entirely correct, we must evaluate three things: the way in which Shakespeare makes the audience feel ashamed, whether this shame is felt by both contemporary audiences and Elizabethan/Jacobean audiences, and whether shame is, as Berry writes the ultimate effect . One of the ways in which Shakespeare could be seen to cast shame upon the audience is through their reaction to the characters treatment of Malvolio. On receiving the letter, Malvolio expresses I thank my stars I am happy (...) Jove and my stars be praised! (...) Jove I thank thee. I will smile, I will do everything that thou wilt have me. (Act I, Scene V, line 30) Is short, blunt and definite, proving that he is in fact oblivious to her deception. This is yet another example of dramatic irony, as only the audience and Viola are aware of her true identity. This irony shows us that Orsino has been outsmarted by a female, straying from the traditional patriarchal views of women and consequentially reinforcing Dusinberre s critique of the text. In our modern society, with this current new wave of feminism, this message is particularly relevant, and so would arguably have a greater impact on an audience than the shame felt from Twelfth Night would. If it is to have a greater effect, then it is superior to Shakespeare s evocation of shame, and thus feeling ashamed cannot be the ultimate effect of Shakespeare s Twelfth ... Initially, there was no root cause for conflict on behalf of my colleague (Dora). It would be a stretch to say that she would fall under Maslow s hierarchy of needs. She had just graduated from a surgical assistant program and applied to the position for an increase in pay, and due to being in her current role as a nursing assistant for over 7 years. These were the primary reasons for applying for the position. Once the conflict was initiated, and continued to progress, she began to demonstrate signs of disassociation, and denial, which as a result, asking for my help in the matter. She had become so emotionally overwhelmed by the situation that she did want to focus on a resolution, given that she was going against a manager and her feelings towards her. The sense of authority and her being at the bottom of the totem pole effected how she felt she could handle the situation. To her, fighting this situation would be a loss cause. Due to these feelings of not being able to advocate for herself, she initially displayed an avoidance conflict style. As the conflict progressed and gaining the support of the CNO) she became more collaborative in her conflict style. The Beat Generation Subculture Essay The Beat Generation Subculture Every generation has its middle class, majority, and norm, which are decided by that era s standards of behavior and thought. Similarly, each generation has a group that rejects these standards and rebels against the norm. In the 1950 s a group of American writers that exemplified this behavior formed. They were called the beat generation. The beat generation was particularly remarkable because although it was began by an exceptionally small group of people, its cultural influence was enormous. The stereotype that emerged in the mass media was a spaced out beatnik, dressed in black, pounding on bongo drums and muttering gibberish as poetry (Microsoft Encarta, 2001). America s youth, however, identified with the feelings of despair and the need for freedom expressed in their work. The beats created a revolution that began with many young people leaving their conventional lives to hitchhike around American and find themselves. I have never had any intentions on committing suicide and I never really understood why people commit suicide that s why I chose this topic to help me understand what problems people go through that makes them do such a thing. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Durkheim was very famous for his study of suicide. He defined the four types of suicide and supported his theory that changes in nonmaterial social facts cause differences in suicide rates. Durkheim s theory consisted of finding a problem which was suicide. He then came up with a dependent variable which was the suicide rate. The social forces became the independent variable. The hypothesis would be what the suicide rate would vary with. When he collected his date Durkheim would go into detail about each individuals life and any uprising problems that he could find. He would then analyze the data into four categories which are the three most common types of suicide (egoistic suicide, altruistic suicide and anomic suicide). After looking at the date and matching it up with the proper suicide type Durkheim would then draw conclusions or form a theory. These are the details of the three most common suicides. Egoistic suicide is committed by people who are weak and supported by membership in a cohesive social group. They start to depend a huge amount on themselves than on group goals and rules of conduct to sustain them in their lives. When stressful times are around they feel isolated and helpless. Altruistic suicide is committed by people who are extremely committed to group norms and objectives and who notice their own lives as insignificant. These suicides involved dying for some type of cause. Anomic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
