Image Handling: Understanding the Basics of WordPress Media
Good photos, logos, icons and other images on a site are key to a website's appeal, popularity and conversion rates. Rich Plakas will review uploading images in pages and posts, including the media settings, size options, as well as default image sizes – resizing images, creating thumbnails and the value of the alt tag and captions for SEO.
The presentation will also demonstrate how to use the WordPress built-in image alignment features and help attendees understand how images interact with the text; and will include wrapping text around images, changing margins, padding and borders around the images within the content and when and how to use the ‘Featured Image’ option. Photoblogs and Galleries will also be discussed, as well as some of the best plugins to use to manage and/or display images. We will close with a Q&A.

Hayley also learned how to make presentations more dynamic by uploading to SlideShare and how to record and edit videos using iMovie for her blog. She utilized websites like dafont.com and SlideShare to download fonts and presentations. Pages allowed her to design magazine spreads more professionally with columns. Working in Photoshop for the first time, Hayley learned how to edit text with effects like glows and shadows.

- A web page is a document that displays information on the internet using text, pictures, graphics, sound and video. Web pages are created using HTML, but packages now exist to simplify the process.
- Web page creation packages use a WYSIWYG interface, allowing users to see how the page will look without knowing HTML. Templates provide pre-made page structures to make the process even easier.
- Basic elements like text, images, tables and hyperlinks can easily be added and formatted. Larger elements like videos require ensuring the content can legally be used and shared.
