Hayley learned various technologies through creating a music magazine publication including Adobe Photoshop, Apple Pages, and the blogging platform Blogger. She gained experience saving documents in compatible formats between Mac and Windows systems. Hayley also learned how to make presentations more dynamic by uploading to SlideShare and how to record and edit videos using iMovie for her blog. She utilized websites like dafont.com and SlideShare to download fonts and presentations. Pages allowed her to design magazine spreads more professionally with columns. Working in Photoshop for the first time, Hayley learned how to edit text with effects like glows and shadows.
Technologies Learnt From Constructing a Music Magazine
1. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product By Hayley Gill
2. From constructing my music magazine publication I have gained experience and knowledge in using Adobe Photoshop, Pages and using the online site Blogger to report and record my research and planning process and the making of my magazine. Due to the fact that I was working on an an apple mac I learnt how to use different types of software that had been specifically created for macs, such as pages. In using software specifically designed for macs I had to learn how to save documents and make them compatible to open on a windows laptop. For example changing PSD files into JPEG’s so that they would be compatible to open on a non mac computer.
3. When transferring all my findings, work, progress and data onto my blog, I wanted to upload all my findings in a more dynamic way than just creating blog posts. One way I found how to do this was by uploading PowerPoint presentations from the website SlideShare. When answering the evaluation questions I learnt how to use iMovie ( a piece of software on macs that allows you to create small video clips ). When using iMovie I learnt how to record myself and save my short video. Afterwards I learnt how to change the settings, making my video suitable for web streaming. Finally I uploaded it onto my blog.
4. Uploading and Downloading Files I used dafont.com to download particular font styles for my magazine because they had a great variety of styles to choose from and had a vast selection that would ensure that I would be able to find one suitable for attracting my target audience. SlideShare was also a great website which I used to make my blog look more dynamic , technical and exciting.
5. Pages Pages was a great software programme to use for creating my double page spread because it allowed me to create columns, making my double page spread seem more organised and professional and making it easier and clearer for readers to read. I chose to use Pages instead of the software I used to create my front page and contents page because that particular programme lacked features that would help me to design the double page such as adding columns and it also had a more vast variety of ways of manipulating photographs such as adding special effects and morphing images into the background.
6. Photoshop Creating my music publication was the first time I had ever experienced using the software package Photoshop. I was quite excited about trying Photoshop as I know that it is a programme commonly used by professionals in industry. From experimenting with using Photoshop I learnt how to create documents and edit text such as adding inner and outer glows and shadows.
