WOMEN’S SUPPORT GROUP GLOBALLY
Battered Women's Support Services (BWSS)
-    started by a group of women in 1979
-   provide support & advocacy for women who have
    experienced abuse, as well as, training & education about
    violence against women.
-   As part of the feminist anti-violence movement, their long-
    term goal is the elimination of all violence against women.
-   launched The Violence Stops Here Campaign urging men
    to own their role in ending violence against women (2010)
- After retiring their Dating Violence Program in 2007 they
  have launch Youth Engagement in Violence Prevention in
  2010.
- They serve over 8,000 women, deliver over training and
  professional development to over 350 professionals each
  year.
WOMEN’S JOURNEY
 a support group that helps women regain self esteem and
  establish gender equality.
 a community that helps women to identify the silent
  discriminations that limit their lives and invades their
  personal identity.
 The founder, Ann Lewis Ph.D. is a licensed mental health
  counselor in the state of Florida, with a private practice
  that promotes healing from within; she has over 23 years
  clinical experience counseling individuals, couples, and
  groups.
Feminist Women's Therapy
Group
 a group just for women who are seeking a
  supportive place to meet and talk with other
  women in a feminist empowered space.
 Women who join this group may be dealing with
 general life issues such as career concerns, life
 transitions, anxiety or feelings of sadness,
 relationship issues, self-esteem issues, or other
 general life issues.
 It is a talk therapy group that is closed , meaning
  that members who join this group are willing to
  make a commitment to attend this group regularly
  for a minimum of 6 months or more because they
  want a safe, healing, emotional space to form
  deeper connections with other women.
 Typically women who join this group are
  professional or business women who are between
  30-55 years of age. Housewives or women who
  work part-time are also appropriate for this group
Sexual Abuse/Assault
Survivor's Group (SASS)
 for women who have been sexually abused as children,
  survivors of incest, and women who have been raped or
  sexually assaulted in childhood or adulthood.
 to discuss similar experiences and the lasting impact that
  it has had in their adult life.
- offer survivors a safe place to come talk about their
  sexual abuse/assault experiences with others
 Participants will learn about "Accommodation
  Syndromes," experiencing "Damaged Goods Syndrome,"
  stages of "Rape Trauma Syndrome," and explore
  similarities and differences members have experienced.
 members offer positive support to one another
  while coping with different issues that arise in the
  aftermath of incest, sexual abuse, sexual assault
  and rape.
WOMEN’S SUPPORT GROUP iN
Malaysia
The Women's Centre for Change (WCC)
 a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminate violence
  against women and children, empower women and
  promote gender equality.
 actively involved in campaign and community work to
  overcome gender violence in our society.
 also provides social services for abused women and their
  children.
Responsibilities:
 Enhance communication, advocacy and information
  materials (press release, news and feature writing) to
  promote WCC's work.
 Write, edit and oversee to the production of WCC
  publications, e.g. newsletter, annual reports, publications
  and brochures.
 Manage, generate and update the contents of WCC
  website.
 Assist in the development and implementation of a
  communication and advocacy strategy for WCC.
ALL WOMEN’S ACTiON SOCiETY
(AWAM)
 AWAM is an independent feminist organization
  committed to improving the lives of women
  in Malaysia. We are tax-exempt, non-profit
  organization established in 1985.
 AWAM operates on the strength of a dynamic group of
  volunteer members and a pool of dedicated staff. Both
  are responsible for the direction and policies of the
  organization.
Training and education is an area in which AWAM
 specializes. Our training expertise include:
 gender ;

 rape
 sexual harassment
 domestic violence
 women's rights & human rights
 women & the media
 feminist counseling
Talian Nur hotline
 Remember this number: 15999. It is the number of "Talian
  Nur", the hotline link to enable early intervention for
  victims of domestic violence, child abuse, and natural
  disasters.
 Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi,
  launched the integrated one-stop call centre set up by the
  Women, Family and Community Development Ministry
  Wednesday.
 He urged the public to use it properly and not make crank
  calls, adding that those responding to the calls must also
  act quickly to relay the information.
 Women, Family and Community Development Minister
  Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil said the 29 call agents would
  work on three shifts to answer calls 24-hours a day and
  seven days a week from the call centre based in Kuala
  Lumpur.
 the ministry's existing two helplines - TeleDera and
  Healthline had been consolidated with Talian Nur,
  adding that the police would also help dealing with
  calls involving criminal activities.
 The call centre allowed assistance to all types of social
  woes victims with greater speedadding
 the hotline was a necessity with the increasing number
  of social issues and natural disaster cases being
  reported

Women’s support groups and their roles

WOMEN’S SUPPORT GROUP GLOBALLY Battered Women's Support Services (BWSS) - started by a group of women in 1979 - provide support & advocacy for women who have experienced abuse, as well as, training & education about violence against women. - As part of the feminist anti-violence movement, their long- term goal is the elimination of all violence against women. - launched The Violence Stops Here Campaign urging men to own their role in ending violence against women (2010)
  • 3. - After retiring their Dating Violence Program in 2007 they have launch Youth Engagement in Violence Prevention in 2010. - They serve over 8,000 women, deliver over training and professional development to over 350 professionals each year.
  • 4. WOMEN’S JOURNEY  a support group that helps women regain self esteem and establish gender equality.  a community that helps women to identify the silent discriminations that limit their lives and invades their personal identity.  The founder, Ann Lewis Ph.D. is a licensed mental health counselor in the state of Florida, with a private practice that promotes healing from within; she has over 23 years clinical experience counseling individuals, couples, and groups.

Feminist Women's Therapy Group  a group just for women who are seeking a supportive place to meet and talk with other women in a feminist empowered space.  Women who join this group may be dealing with general life issues such as career concerns, life transitions, anxiety or feelings of sadness, relationship issues, self-esteem issues, or other general life issues.
  • 7.  It is a talk therapy group that is closed , meaning that members who join this group are willing to make a commitment to attend this group regularly for a minimum of 6 months or more because they want a safe, healing, emotional space to form deeper connections with other women.  Typically women who join this group are professional or business women who are between 30-55 years of age. Housewives or women who work part-time are also appropriate for this group

Sexual Abuse/Assault Survivor's Group (SASS)  for women who have been sexually abused as children, survivors of incest, and women who have been raped or sexually assaulted in childhood or adulthood.  to discuss similar experiences and the lasting impact that it has had in their adult life. - offer survivors a safe place to come talk about their sexual abuse/assault experiences with others  Participants will learn about "Accommodation Syndromes," experiencing "Damaged Goods Syndrome," stages of "Rape Trauma Syndrome," and explore similarities and differences members have experienced.
  • 9.  members offer positive support to one another while coping with different issues that arise in the aftermath of incest, sexual abuse, sexual assault and rape.
  • 10. WOMEN’S SUPPORT GROUP iN Malaysia The Women's Centre for Change (WCC)  a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminate violence against women and children, empower women and promote gender equality.  actively involved in campaign and community work to overcome gender violence in our society.  also provides social services for abused women and their children.
  • 11. Responsibilities:  Enhance communication, advocacy and information materials (press release, news and feature writing) to promote WCC's work.  Write, edit and oversee to the production of WCC publications, e.g. newsletter, annual reports, publications and brochures.  Manage, generate and update the contents of WCC website.  Assist in the development and implementation of a communication and advocacy strategy for WCC.
  • 12. ALL WOMEN’S ACTiON SOCiETY (AWAM)  AWAM is an independent feminist organization committed to improving the lives of women in Malaysia. We are tax-exempt, non-profit organization established in 1985.  AWAM operates on the strength of a dynamic group of volunteer members and a pool of dedicated staff. Both are responsible for the direction and policies of the organization.
  • 13. Training and education is an area in which AWAM specializes. Our training expertise include: gender ;  rape  sexual harassment  domestic violence  women's rights & human rights  women & the media  feminist counseling
  • 14. Talian Nur hotline  Remember this number: 15999. It is the number of "Talian Nur", the hotline link to enable early intervention for victims of domestic violence, child abuse, and natural disasters.  Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, launched the integrated one-stop call centre set up by the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry Wednesday.  He urged the public to use it properly and not make crank calls, adding that those responding to the calls must also act quickly to relay the information.  Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil said the 29 call agents would work on three shifts to answer calls 24-hours a day and seven days a week from the call centre based in Kuala Lumpur.
  • 15.  the ministry's existing two helplines - TeleDera and Healthline had been consolidated with Talian Nur, adding that the police would also help dealing with calls involving criminal activities.  The call centre allowed assistance to all types of social woes victims with greater speedadding  the hotline was a necessity with the increasing number of social issues and natural disaster cases being reported
