Back To School Night
I was given the task by school administration to develop and deliver a presentation to parents on the topic of social media.
The presentation was given during my school's open house and the audience consisted of parents with children in grades 6th through 8th grade.
The purpose of the presentation was to educate parents about social media:
How it works
Types of social media
Dangers of social media
Laws of sexting
How to protect your child
This presentation was prepared for a high school Parent Teacher Organization to inform parents of the social media apps and sites local teens are using in spring 2014. The presentation includes an overview of particular apps and sites, as well as their terms of service and appropriateness for teen users. Parents are also given tips about helping teens develop a good digital footprint and referred to resources that will help them make social media decisions for their own teens.
Tips for parents on what their kids are probably using right now, and how to keep kids safe online. The positives outweigh the negatives for allowing kids to use some types of social media and messaging, however it's important to be mindful that there are potential pitfalls. This reviews some of the most popular apps for kids, statistics on how kids use social media, texting, and messaging, and how to use parental controls. There is a list of resources for parents about internet safety, parental controls on computers and mobille devices, and tutorials on different social media platforms. There is a link to a contract parents and kids can both read, discuss, and sign to stay mindful of how to stay safe online and how older children and teens can safely use social media and messaging.

Should Children Be Allowed to Use Phones and Social Media?
What happens when a dry sponge meets water? It will absorb as much water as it can. Sometimes children are like a sponge: they will imitate the behavior of people around them or get information from the Internet and incorporate what they see into their lives. Due to the rapid development of the technological age, information on social media and the Internet is diverse. Moreover, in the past few years, there has been a significant increase in the number of children using mobile phones and social media. The data given by Jacqueline Howard in the article “What's the Age When Kids Start Social Media?” reflect the large number of children who own mobile phones and use social media: “The report found that, overall, 56% of the children had their own social media accounts, based on the parents’ survey responses. Among those children, the parents reported that the average age when initially signing up for the account was 12.6 years” (Howard). As a result, parents begin to worry about their children's use of technology and social media. The topic of whether or not children are allowed to use mobile phones and social media has attracted the attention of many parents and experts and generated different opinions. On the one hand, proponents believe that children should use social media to learn basic social and technical skills, to make friends with people around the world more easily, and to learn from their peers online. On the other hand, opponents believe that it would have a bad effect on children's mental health. Cyber bullying may occur and children may be unable to communicate better in real life. There are a number of pros and cons that come with using mobile phones and social media, and parental guidance can make a difference.
People who agree that children can use mobile phones and social media think they can better understand the latest technology and learn basic social skills. The Internet can broaden children's horizons, can help the children know current affairs new, and can help them obtain all sorts of newest knowledge and information. In later life, these children can do research themselves. Through the Internet, children can enrich their minds obtain learn a lot of knowledge that cannot be learned in school by teachers. In addition, they can use social media to communicate with others. Some children lack confidence and dare not talk and communicate with the outside world. Now with the Internet, these kids may overcome this psychological barrier and broaden their horizon in the process of this victual communication. Children can meet other people with the same interests, they can quickly make more friends through the topics they are interested in, and they can learn to build and maintain friendships and relationships. This can benefit for children. According to Ronaldo Tumbokon, “Social networks actually make kids more rela ...
Should there be a legal age for technological use? michellebuttigieg
There are legal ages for driving, drinking, etc., but why not on technology? Research concludes that screen time for young children is detrimental to their health. Legal ages are set in place in order to protect and benefit the individual. If technology is so bad for children, why are they allowed to use it?
Managing Screen Time - The Student's PerspectiveSecurly
The opportunities and perils of giving students access to devices like Chromebooks and iPads are well documented. Until now, however, conversations around topics such as screen time, web filtering, cyberbullying, and privacy have been dominated by adults. Very little is known about how today’s youth, the “1:1 generation”, are coping with an unprecedented use of technology in school and at home. We surveyed over 400 students to get their thoughts. Some of the results may surprise you.

Does the Usage of Internet harm Child Development?
Is the internet the safest technology in the world? Should parents have second thoughts before letting their children use the internet? These kind questions always run through my mind when someone refers about the internet, but I will explain what the internet really is about. The internet is a global communication interconnecting millions of computers. Children use the internet for various reasons, but the most significant reasons are for information, communication, entertainment and school performance. According to Thompson S.H Teo study, Internet users used the Internet mainly because they perceived the Internet to be more valuable to their job tasks and secondarily because it is enjoyable and easy to use (Omega, 27.1). The internet has many positive aspects, but it also seems to have adverse effects too. Vint Cerf, the creator of the internet predicted that this technology will affect the future and developing areas such as artificial intelligence and child development. Although the internet is the most useful technology for child development, it also has a harmful effect on social, physical and cognitive development of modern children lifestyle.
Social development refers to an alteration in the social structure of a social group or society to enhance the capacity of a society in order to finish their objective. It has a target in developing power to increase human activity. The internet can improve children and their school-based education and can be used as a tool for creativity and intellectual work in groups. Also, Gonca Karayagiz said:
“Computers have occupied increasingly central roles in children's world with the advance of technology. They have proved to be an ideal companion for children in developing and developed countries who spend most of their time at school or home with computers. As a measure of development and modernization, technology has made people's lives easier and contributed positively to social well-being so far while it has also brought about some problems and threats stemming from irresponsible use of the internet”( Karayagiz).
Creativity, intellectual work in group, school-based learning can be improved by the usage of the internet.
However, when excessively used, the internet can also take children away from their usual life work such as chores, homework, and engaging with family and friends. There are also other dangerous concern involving the usage of internet inappropriate content, such as violence, pornography and abusive language. Pornography is one of the severe impacts on child development. The erotic picture that has the intention to release sexual behavior is known as pornography. Pornography is an easy way harm children and their developing childhood. Pedophile is a person who is sexually attracted to children and many pedophiles is the one who indulge in making child pornography. Pedophile uses a tool to demolish children’s ...

The Internet and Social Safety among Elementary Kids
Internet and social media usage become inevitable and beneficial for children in every aspects of life. Children have subsequently been exposed, entertained, educated as well as socialized by the internet. As the world becomes more digitalized, more researches are done in order to determine whether or not the internet is beneficial for children. Even though many researches that are conducted on the effectiveness of internet and social media usage have shown that there are more advantages, there are still considerable negative sides. In this essay, I will attract attention to increased utilization of the internet and social media among the kids can groom them if the harmful sides of the internet usage be avoided. (Short intro please add some more)
With increased internet usage, particularly new discoveries of more educative websites that are rated children-friendly, internet become an educational tool. Children are able to ensure the knowledge necessary for expansive learning. Internet presents avenues for visual learning as young children are attracted to diagrams, images as well as photos that are academically designed to empower and enhance learning. This has presented the children with an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge as they learn and develop ability to navigate and do research work at early stages (Resources in Education 76). The result of this is reflected in the academic ability of the children as they grow based on the increased capability to understand search engines needed for particular data retrievals. Such children further develop interest and become good researchers in the future as they undergo the education ladder. They become brighter as they explore the massive relevant information from the peer-reviewed articles as well as books.
Internet is a great tool for children to learn more not only for academic success, but also for self-improvement. Many educative websites allows kids to get help for their schoolwork. One example would be Mathway, a websites that solves math problems and explain the answers. Grammarly is another website that helps students to fix their grammatical errors. Internet also helps students to improve themselves in many different ways. There are many tutorial videos on YouTube that can teach kids many different skills.
Internet is an important instrument for children to gather new information. It is also positive for the foreign students as internet has enabled them to use Google Translations to understand English. Children have also benefited from diverse knowledge and skills available on the internet sources besides being positively enlightened through games played, which has led to generation and incubation of relevant ideas (Dixon, Brian, and Julie 122). Children have found it easy to navigate the personal computers and to obtain necessary project information necessary for their class works.

Improving Workplace Safety Performance in Malaysian SMEs: The Role of Safety ...AJHSSR Journal
ABSTRACT: In the Malaysian context, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) experience a significant
burden of workplace accidents. A consensus among scholars attributes a substantial portion of these incidents to
human factors, particularly unsafe behaviors. This study, conducted in Malaysia's northern region, specifically
targeted Safety and Health/Human Resource professionals within the manufacturing sector of SMEs. We
gathered a robust dataset comprising 107 responses through a meticulously designed self-administered
questionnaire. Employing advanced partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) techniques
with SmartPLS 3.2.9, we rigorously analyzed the data to scrutinize the intricate relationship between safety
behavior and safety performance. The research findings unequivocally underscore the palpable and
consequential impact of safety behavior variables, namely safety compliance and safety participation, on
improving safety performance indicators such as accidents, injuries, and property damages. These results
strongly validate research hypotheses. Consequently, this study highlights the pivotal significance of cultivating
safety behavior among employees, particularly in resource-constrained SME settings, as an essential step toward
enhancing workplace safety performance.
