This document discusses the benefits of traditional tag games for children's development. It outlines benefits in three areas: physical, socio-emotional, and intellectual development. 2. Importance to the PHYSICAL
development
 Gross muscles and bones gain strength with
use and children gradually develop
coordination.
 Unlike a child who spends most of his or her
time sitting at home and playing video games,
a child who runs in this game of tag for
example, are better coordinated.
 How is this so? In the game of tag, children to
be tagged will be running all around the place,
left and right, back and forth.

3.  The person who tags, will have to move to the
left, to the right, or back and forth, depending on
the directions to where his or her friends run.
 Running burns fat and calories and children will
less likely to become overweight. (physically fit)
 Development in locomotor movement (running)
 A strengthening of the entire cardiovascular
system, including the heart and lungs. The heart
develops a higher “pump-activity” while the
child’s
heart and lungs are strengthened,
supporting the prevention of heart
disease.

4. Importance to the SOCIO
EMOTIONAL development
 When children are required to untag their friends
in this game of tag, they will gradually develop
teamwork skills.
 Each time one of their friends get tagged, they will
have to save him or her by undoing the tag.
 This game requires everybody to be active
participants because everybody will have to run,
or else, he or she will be tagged. This helps to
develop the sense of belonging to the group
because no one will be left behind to wait for their
turns, which most likely will get them bored.

5.  This game of tag is not just for the enjoyment
element, it also helps children to become very
social, and more cooperative! Child starts to
become aware of the fact that their actions have
consequences.
 If they do not run, they will be tagged, and if they
do not help each other in creating strategies, more
and more of them will be tagged, which means that
there will be less of them to untag the tagged,
resulting in harder work.
 In the course of playing with children who doesn’t
really know each other, this game will help them to
interact verbally as they call out names to help
untag them.
 Finally, everyone will know everybody’s names.

6. Importance to INTELLECTUAL
development
 Develop children’s thinking skills as this game
encourage children to think critically on strategies
to not get tagged.
 Children to be tagged might separate themselves
while running, run in different directions to confuse
the one who tags.
 While others run and distract the one who tags,
the others can untag their friends. Although this
game seems to let children running in all
directions and not organized, when children have
to decide on strategies learning through the fun
way will be more productive and meaningful.

7.  The one who tags will also have to think of
how to make himself run less, while at the
same time still be able to tag.
 He might want to target the slowest runner.
 Cooperation among children develop thinking
skills in the sense of them sharing ideas and
exchanging thoughts.

8.  Studies show that children who exercise
regularly (in the form of play) experience
longer, deeper, more restful sleep.
 Better sleep results in more energy and
alertness the following day, allowing better
concentration and ability to think on higher
levels. (important when it comes to the
schooling period)
