Wireless Gateway
- Routes packets from one network to another.
- Can be implemented as a software or a hardware or a combination of both.
- Software Implementation Example:-
Emerson
- Hardware Implementation Example:-
Universal IoT Gateway
- Software & Hardware Implementation Example:-
Emerson installed on Raspberry Pi

Wireless Gateway
Main Feature:-
Provides functions of:-
1. Wireless Access Points (WAP)
2. Routers
3. Firewall
[Ref.: International Journal of Sensors, Wireless Communications and Control, Volume 7 - Number 1]
Wireless Gateway
- Also perform the task of DHCP.
- DHCP (Dynamic Host Control Protocol):-
* A standard network protocol used on IP networks.
* Controlled by a DHCP server.
* Dynamically distributes network parameters.
* Save the funds.

Wireless Gateway
- Types of Wireless Gateway:-
1. Simple: Connected to a cable modem to connect to the ISP.
2. Complex: Termed Complex
Actually very simple
No need of any other hardware. Built-in modem to
connect to the Internet automatically.

Mobile Application Server
- Purpose:-
* Makes back-end accessible to the mobile apps.
* Much like web servers.
[Ref.: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_gateway]
Mobile Application Server
- Features:-
* Data Routing
* Authentication Service
* Offline support
* Security: Provide data encryption
[Ref.: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_gateway]
Mobile Application Server
- Deployment Models:-
* On Premise
* On Cloud
On Premise On Cloud
- Higher cost - Pay as-per-use
- High maintenance - No maintenance required
- Lack of elastic infrastructure - Use of IaaS
- Lack of robust platforms - Use of PaaS
[Ref.: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_gateway]
Mobile Application Server
- Challenges:-
* Limited power and bandwidth in mobile devices
* No continuous wifi coverage and cellular data
* Security issue due to Mobility and BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)
