AS Macro: The Effectiveness of UK Macro-Economic Policiestutor2u
We have considered the three key areas of macroeconomic policy – monetary policy, fiscal policy and supply-side policies.
In the longest essay questions on data response papers examiners often ask students to consider how effective these are when they are used to manage the economy. How can we judge whether the performance of the economy is improving as a result of them? In this session we will remember how to assess macroeconomic performance, think about some of the issues with measuring growth,
and focus on ways to evaluate the effectiveness of different policies
As Windows XP comes to the end of its natural life on 8 April 2014, thousands of applications that run under the old operating system will need to be upgraded for a move to Windows 7 or 8.
The majority of commercial applications are available in newer versions of the Windows operating system, and users simply need to stay current. However, some businesses may find that they are unable to do so for various reasons, perhaps because they have been developed in-house, or are one of the few commercial applications that don’t have an upgrade path to Windows 7 or 8.
In these instances, what are the options when it comes to applications that can’t be upgraded? How can businesses overcome issues associated with legacy apps when upgrading the rest of their applications to Windows 8?
This session will explore Windows 7 platform capabilities that provides enhanced security and control, secure anywhere access that make users more productive, and seamless desktop management that make it easier for IT Professionals and users to manage the desktop. We will discuss networking features such as Direct Access, Branch Cache, and Search Federation. Then we will explore management improvements such as Powershell V2.0, Group Policy improvements, deployment enhancements including virtual desktop infrastructure improvements, and Troubleshooting Packs. Next we will discuss data protection enhancements such as Bitlocker and Bitlocker to go, and core security improvements including UAC and Applocker to ensure secure desktop platform. Finally, the session will explore Windows 7 power efficiency improvements to reduce energy costs and improve battery life.
Windows 7 is the best OS for enterprise use from Microsoft and improves on 3 major pain points. Info-Tech recommends organizations running Windows XP as the primary desktop OS migrate to Windows 7 by end-of-year 2012. This storyboard addresses the following migration success factors:
•Preparation and planning are key to a successful deployment – focus on application, driver, and peripheral compatibility.
•Version selection is important to ensure that necessary features and functionality are deployed.
•Selecting the most appropriate deployment methodology will maximize resource allocation and minimize time and cost.
Take advantage of Microsoft’s free resources to help simplify and ensure the success of your Windows 7 deployment.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Main issues: Document conversion strategy related to new Office XML format. Risk of documents no longer working End-User Acceptance: the new User Interface (Ribbon) takes quite a lot of getting used to Service Desk peaks loads. The changes to the UI are so big that even with proper end-user training substantial peaks in service desk calls will arise. Additional gains: Moving to the new Office XML format may provide substantial storage and back-up savings We advise to: Test and fix Office document scope before migration Specifically organize for end-user support through end-user representatives and customer project-lead public / Windows7 & Office deployment

Editor's Notes
Object Model ChangesNew Object Models may cause compatibility issues which manifest themselves as Compilation or Run-Time errors DAO to ADO Active X D O. DAO - Data Access Objects original v1 in 1992, version 3.5 in office 97 did not require JET engine, latest/last version 3.6 in office XP, 2003, 2007 Data Access Object (DAO) is an object that provides an abstract interface to some type of database or persistence mechanism, providing some specific operations without exposing details of the database. This isolation separates the concerns of what data accesses the application needs, in terms of domain-specific objects and data types (the public interface of the DAO), and how these needs can be satisfied with a specific DBMS, database schema, etc. (the implementation of the DAO).Hidden commands“Hidden Commands” over 300 may still compile but cause runtime errors or no longer execute the same way, or at all. Newly dysfunctional commands may exist circumstantially. These commands may include “ChartObjects.Delete” or “Dialog.Show” and may not run so use of these commands, among others, must be identified and assessed for compatibility implications.Discontinued Support for VBA Syntax deprecated CommandsCertain command series such as “Diagram” are no longer supported by MS Word or their associated Office applications, and if used will result in compilation errors.Deprecated commands are no longer supported. Although they still compile and execute, use of such commands does not represent Microsoft “best practice” and they should be identified and re-evaluated.Unsupported Project ReferencesUse of certain project references, such as Utility.mda (add in) in MS Access will cause compilation errors and they need to be removed and possibly replaced.Changed Application Functionality File links will break as a result of the file name extension change from 3, to 4 or 5 character extensions in Office 2007 so finding the links and replacing them with the new file name extensions is be important to re-establish file link functionality.New “Invalid Range Names” have been introduced as a result of the greater number of rows and columns allowed by Excel 2007. 1,048,576 rows by 16,384 columns, in 2003 – 256 Cols x 65,536 rows. A range name of “QTR1” for example is now an invalid range name. Potential formatting problems introduced as a result of the Excel default font change from Arial 10 to Calibri 11, meaning column widths may need to be adjusted in templates or other Excel documents. Changed File & Object Security MethodsMS Access Workgroup Security is not supported in Access 2007 so security for Access files will need to be evaluated and re-established using network and folder based security methods. For Access 2007, the Microsoft development team wanted to make Access easier to use. They decided that the internal security system used in Access since the early 1990s made the software unnecessarily complex. Therefore, they deprecated the internal security system in both the ACCDB file format and the new version of the Access Database Engine that accompanies it.
