Electric Cloud develops software to accelerate software builds and provide insight into builds. Their main products are ElectricAccelerator and ElectricInsight. ElectricAccelerator significantly reduces build times by distributing builds across multiple servers using their dependency management system. It integrates with existing build tools like Make and Visual Studio. ElectricInsight provides graphical visualization of build information to help debug and optimize builds. Slow builds negatively impact developer productivity, integration testing, and software quality. Electric Cloud aims to address these problems through faster, more reliable parallelized builds.
Databases create a real challenge for automation and dealing with database deployments is a complex process. Databases contain our most valuable information, business data, which must be preserved and protected at all costs and yet the automation processes for database deployment are not widely adopted.
To successfully implement continuous delivery in an enterprise, there are specific needs and obstacles which must be addressed. In this webinar, we’ll address the pain points that most enterprises face, and how they can be overcome.
At the heart of traditional Continuous Delivery is the deployment pipeline. A build is generated, promoted through several testing environments and if it passes tests and is aligns with business needs is deployed to Production. This model struggles to account for complex systems where releases involve numerous inter-related builds and/or components that don't fit neatly into the model of "builds" such as incremental content migrations, configuration changes, database schema updates, or report / ETL migrations. This presentation examines the limitations of the build promotion model, architectural approaches for adapting applications to that model, and deployment approaches that realign the release pipeline around the migration of value, rather than the migration of builds.

The build pipeline model of continuous delivery works great for simple projects, but can be challenging for applications with many pieces and parts. In this deck, we look at two approaches for reconciling CD and these applications. In one approach, we force the applications into a simple pipeline, in the other, the pipeline is reimagined.
DevOps tools are continuously evolving. Join us in this webinar to learn more about the essentials you need to know now.
DevOps practices are rapidly changing how enterprises and software producers bring their applications and digital services to market. Those watching the DevOps market have seen it grow, with new processes and toolsets to support software delivery and infrastructure management. The market is changing so quickly that anyone who takes their eyes off it for a moment finds the tools available, and their capabilities, have changed.
Security Implications for a DevOps TransformationDeborah Schalm
If your organization is undergoing a DevOps transformation, you’re probably thinking about where security fits in. All too often, we tack on security testing at the end of the delivery process, which means significant problems go undetected until development is complete. As we adopt DevOps principles and practices, we enable a natural solution to this problem: ensure that security experts are involved throughout the delivery process.
In this webinar, DevOps.com and Puppet defined a reference implementation of DevOps from the ground up, by illustrating how the software delivery process evolves at a hypothetical startup. Once we've laid a technical foundation for DevOps, we discussed the implications for security. We also discussed:
Benefits for and challenges to security during a DevOps transformation
How to craft a DevOps-ready security practice
Refinements of a standard DevOps workflow to address security needs

Continuous integration is simple with a single development team. But when software projects grow to multiple teams and dependencies, continuous integration loses effectiveness due to parallel projects, varying release schedules, and differing cadences between teams. As a result, many teams unknowingly lose the benefits of continuous integration, and therefore suffer from a lack of feedback and poor quality.
In this webinar, UrbanCode’s Eric Minick and AccuRev’s Chris Lucca will explain how to:
- Scale continuous integration builds across multiple development teams working on parallel projects
- Share only code that has passed continuous integration from other teams to avoid broken builds and confusion
- Automate the configuration of your test environment to handle fluid projects done in parallel

The FDA recommends implementing a coding standard during medical device software development. In practice, this means running a static analysis tool to detect any problematic constructs that could lead to problems down the road.
But if you think you can simply download an analyzer and go, you might consider that the FDA requires documented details associated with code quality activities.
What standard are you going to check against? What rules in the analyzer cover the standard? Which rules are you suppressing? The implementation of static analysis is enough to cause headaches, gastrointestinal discomfort, and other side-effects.
This webinar prescribes some static analysis implementation best practices to relieve your FDA compliance symptoms, including:
The benefits of static analysis and what to look for in an analyzer
How to automate static analysis execution
How to integrate static analysis within your software development processes.
How to reduce noise and stop wasting time manually triaging results
Parasoft delivers a complete framework to create, manage, and extract greater value from unit tests. We help you exercise and test an incomplete system—enabling you to identify problems when they are least difficult, costly, and time-consuming to fix. This reduces the length and cost of downstream processes such as debugging. Moreover, since all tests are written at the unit level, the test suite can be run independent of the complete system. This allows you to isolate code behavior changes, reduces setup complexities, and makes it practical to execute the test suite on a daily basis.
This presentation is about applying test automation to embedded devices. It also contains recommendations on how to handle specific features of embedded devices, such as their “True Real Time” type, a non-PC platforms and absence of a debug port.

DevOps is a methodology capturing the practices adopted from the very start by the web giants who had a unique opportunity as well as a strong requirement to invent new ways of working due to the very nature of their business: the need to evolve their systems at an unprecedented pace as well as extend them and their business sometimes on a daily basis.
While DevOps makes obviously a critical sense for startups, I believe that the big corporations with large and old-fashioned IT departments are actually the ones that can benefit the most from adopting these principles and practices.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
