The aim of the syllabus is to develop in
each student the knowledge and
understanding, skills and values and
attitudes needed to lead a healthy, active
and fulfilling lives. In doing so, the syllabus
will form the basis for students to adopt a
responsible and productive role in society.
 Active lifestyle and physical education
 Growth and development – the body,
identity and human sexuality
 Interpersonal relationships – families and
peers, communication and relationships
 Personal healthy choices – nutrition, drug
education, decision making
 Safe living – road safety, personal safety
and safety at home and school.
If children are to become active, healthy and responsible
people they need to develop relevant knowledge skills and
values. PDHPE is an important key learning area for students
as it;
 Encourages an understanding and valuing of self and

 Promotes lifelong involvement in physical activity
 Emphasises informed decision making leading to effective
and responsible action
 Develops motor skills
 Encourages interpersonal relationships
