3. DEFINITION OF TERMS





Supreme Being – is believed to have total control
and power over the world.
Culture – The customs, traditions and civilization of a
particular society or group of people that we live and
work with.
Tolerance – the ability to allow people to express
attitudes, beliefs and behaviour different from those
of your own.
Denomination – one of the different branches of a
religion.
Deity – a god or goddess who is believed to have
supernatural powers.

4. REASONS WHY RE IS IMPORTANT: # 1

Religion encourages some very important
values. For a society to be happy and
successful its people must share common
values. Some of these values are
love, honesty, forgiveness, good
stewardship, kindness, helpfulness, courage,
justice, respect for others and environment
and finally freedom and equality for all.

5. REASON # 2

Religious Education helps us to develop life
skills by helping us to understand the
opinions of others and to practice the ability
to communicate their point of view, an
example is tolerance

6. REASON # 3

Religion inspires many aspects of our culture
and life. In Jamaica religion and everyday life
are closely linked together. To understand
Caribbean life we must know something
about the history of these groups and the
ways in which they have contributed to life on
the island, both in the past and in the
present.

7. CLASSWORK

You only have your books at the moment to
enter a quick competition to design a flyer for
distribution among other students in the
school, telling them about the importance of
Religious Education. This should be done on
a clean page in your notebooks. Marks will
be given based on design, content and
conciseness. All books must be submitted at
the end of class.
