The Evolution Of Owls
Owls are interesting nocturnal animals that have evolved in many ways other than birds. There are
over 200 different species of owls and they have all evolved differently but they share some common
characteristics. Some environmental adaptations that owls have are silent flight, keen eyesight, and the
ability to hunt. Owls have silent flight which helps them catch prey. They also fly without much effort,
because their wings are large compared with the size of their bodies. With large wings and a light
body one can see an owl fly past but they will most likely not hear them. Because of this owls can
carry heavy animals, fly among thick trees, and hover above open fields. Owls have silent flight from
fringed feathers that muffle the sound

Personal Narrative Of My Life
Personal Narrative One day in mid November, I thought that one of the worst days in my life had
come. I walked into my parent s room, and I found my mother rushing to gather things to go
somewhere. Curiously, I asked my mom where she was going, and why she was in such a rush. My
mom said, Julia was in a bad car accident on the way home from school and is headed to the hospital.
I m going up there to see if there is anything I can do to help. Immediately many questions came to
my mind, but I knew that it would be best to not ask until she was sure of the answers and had more
information. Julia was family to me, but not my blood. I have known her since I was born, and she has
always been around since. Her Aunt is my mother s best friend as well as my Godmother. She has
known Julia s family for over 30 years. I wasn t as close to Julia as I would ve liked to be, but I still
knew her very well. She was only 17 years old and it was her Senior year in high school. Since my
mom is a Pediatric nurse at Baptist, it was no surprise to me that my mom was going there to help. I
told her to update me as soon as she found out anything. After my mom left to go to the hospital, I sat
on the couch anxiously waiting for any information from her. Eventually my mom texted me saying
that she was in critical condition and in a coma. She also said that she had to be on a ventilator and
wasn t responding to anything. With that information, I knew that this was something very serious and

reimbursed, with those that are directly chargeable to the estate. As the Thacker court explained,
expenses related to a professionals overhead have a common characteristic in that they are incurred by
the firm on a day to day basis, no matter whom it represents. The traditional way to spread these kinds
of daily expenses among all the firm s clients is for the firm to structure its hourly rates to take such
expenses into consideration. In re Thacker, 48 B.R. at 164. On the other hand, [c]ompensable, out of

transcription fees, out of town travel expenses, delivery service, long distance telephone calls and
postage expenses, are examples of expenses which can be clearly traced to an applicant s
representation of Debtors, as opposed to the firm s other clients. Id. at 10.
This Court in Wyche noted:
The Thacker court s distinction between overhead and reimbursable expenses comports with the
Bankruptcy Code in that it permits reimbursement only for expenditures made to satisfy the particular
necessities of individual case administration. Meanwhile, the Thacker definition disallows costs
connected to the daily operations of a law firm. Such daily operations include efforts by individual
attorneys and staff to ensure that the service they provide merits compensation

China Pollution
China s Pollution Problem
China, one of the worlds largest industrial powers, is now facing a difficult situation. China s
industries rely largely on coal power which emits harmful gases, causing intense air pollution. The
Chinese government, in fear that the country would fall in a recession, has not done much to stop
these industries, so China has become the second largest greenhouse gas emitter in the world. The
types of pollution created by this include air pollution and water pollution, both of which are harmful
to people and wildlife. China s problem has become the world s problem. Nitrogen oxides and sulfur
oxides disgorged by coal fired power plants fall as acid rain on Seoul and Tokyo, and much of the
particulate pollution in Los ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And the country is pushing equally hard to build nuclear reactors and the most efficient types of coal
power plants. As China made great efforts to dominate renewable energy technologies, it has the
advantage of being the world s largest market for power equipment. The government spends heavily to
upgrade the electricity grid, committing $45 billion in 2009 alone and state owned banks provide
generous financing. China s commitment to renewable energy is expensive. Although costs are falling
steeply through mass production, wind energy is still 20 to 40 percent more expensive than coal fired
power and solar power is still at least twice as expensive as coal. The Chinese government charges a
renewable energy fee to all electricity users and the fee increases residential electricity bills by 0.25
percent to 0.4 percent, but for industrial users of electricity, the fee doubled in November, 2010, to
roughly 0.8 percent of the electricity bill. The fee revenue goes to companies that operate the
electricity grid, to make up the cost difference between renewable energy and coal fired power.
Renewable energy fees are not yet high enough to affect China s competitiveness even in energy
intensive industries, said the chairman of a Chinese industrial company, who asked not to be identified
because of the political sensitivity of electricity rates in China. Grid operators are unhappy because
they are reimbursed for the extra cost of buying renewable energy instead of coal fired

A Brief Biography of Victorian Author Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe s importance as a main stature in literature is based upon his dark and thought
provoking poems. His difficult life influenced his melancholy writings. Edgar Allan Poe was born
January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. His parent s occupation was traveling actors. At the age of
two, his father abandoned the family leaving young Poe without a father figure. Poe s mother was
poor, which resulted in him having an extremely hard childhood. His mother passed away as he was
growing up and his foster parent John Allan, a wealthy Richmond tobacco merchant, took Poe into his
household. Poe did not have the best relationship with John Allan, in fact he felt very uncertain about
it. When Poe turned seventeen he attended the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The constant answer of nevermore sent the narrator in a frenzy, just as Poe knew Virginia would no
longer come back and he turned to alcohol. At that moment the situation was made worse. The
narrator is hoping when he dies he s going to see Lenore in Heaven as Poe is hoping to see Virginia.
When the raven says nevermore it gives the narrator idea that she possibly did not make it to Heaven,
and he would not see Lenore anymore. Since Virginia was also known as Lenore, one could believe
that Poe is relating to the poem to him seeing Virginia again in Heaven. Poe s The Raven is the poem
that stands out the most because in it, Poe determines it is some kind of messenger coming to Poe to
answer whether he will ever see his love Lenore. Poe had many great poems and short stories such as
The Fall of the House of Usher . This portrayed a dark and gloomy theme of the Usher family. The
narrator approaches the house of Usher on a dark and quiet day at midnight. The narrator sees the
house; it looks to have been absorbed by a wicked spirit and contaminated atmosphere from the
rotting trees and unclear tarns in the area. Roderick was also the cause of the bad vibe the narrator got
when he arrived at the house. He lost communication with the outside world and buried his sister
alive. Their family had a hidden secret, which was incest. In the article Sprits of the Dead, Poe states,

Dislodged Cell Essay
Dislodged cells undergo a Special type of cell death named anoikis based on loss of cell matrix
interaction mediated by intrinsic and extrinsic apoptotic pathway. In intrinsic pathway after cell ECM
detachment, BH3 only proteins (Bim and Bid) stimulate Bax and Bak pro apoptotic proteins
oligomerization and pore creation in mitochondrial outer membrane. Because of these pores,
cytochrome C and SMAC/DIABLO proteins will be release from mitochondria into the cytosol.
Ultimately apoptosome complex formation induces executioner caspase activation and proteolysis.

Also in oxidative stress, inducing ATG proteins expression through PERK (Protein kinase RNA like
endoplasmic reticulum kinase) activate canonical autophagy. DUE TO the activation of these proteins
autophagy begins, (and consequently or so) sustains the required energy of the cell. Another
temporary saving strategy in physiological condition is Provisional disengagement occurs during cell
migration. Cells take a different type of motility style in their transient displacement like
Mesenchymal and amoeboid movement. Motile cells with Mesenchymal form exhibit pro survival
signals activation. In amoeboid motile cells interaction with ECM does not require for movement and
survival and they suppress anoikis by using cytokine and growth factor instead of ECM proteins.
Acquisition of the Mesenchymal phenotype is functionally associated with the ability to overcome
anoikis /another process involved in anoikis resistance is EMT which is an essential feature that
allows epithelial cells participate in physiological process like embryogenesis. EMT in cancer cells /
also cancer cells acquire Mesenchymal feature which allow/permit them to overcome anoikis and
become motile and metastatic/in this process, cancer cells launch chain of event that enable them to
acquire Mesenchymal feature and overcome anoikis. During EMT cancer cell downregulate cell

Thirty six years, for thirty six years he had been able to live with the dirty secret in his families past
hidden away. For thirty six years people had believed that Justin Delaney was the pure blooded heir of
the Delaney family, inheritor of a rather respectable fortune, and an expert in Arithmancy if one was

Most of those things were true except for the part about being a pure blood... most thought his mother
was Victoria Black Delaney, daughter of the famous Black household who had married another

The Feminization Of Poverty And Poverty
Poverty has increasingly become a noticeable issue worldwide over the past couple of decades. With
the middle class steadily decreasing, considerable amounts of people are becoming part of the lower
class, and even more of our world s population are beginning to live in poverty. It is important to
understand there are different definitions of poverty, and that is largely determined by what each
country s government determines as the cut off of poverty, otherwise known as the poverty line .
Although some people could live above the poverty line, and still be struggling financially, it goes
unrecognized by most research collection. However, what was initially noticed around the 1970 s is
that there was a significant rise in women s poverty statistics. More female headed households were
living in poverty, and a majority of those women belonged to a minority. This recognizable trend has
been deemed the feminization of poverty , which according research is not only a growing problem in
North America, but several other countries around the world. Information gathered about this issue in
the United States shows that female headed households is by far the fastest growing type of family
structure, and due to the fact there is a growing poverty level amongst this group, it now means that
approximately half of the all the poor in the United States live in a women headed family and
household. (Gimenez, 1999, p. 336) The biggest question when is comes to this particular topic is
why?

Sexism In The Film Industry
The film industry is one of the most prevalent industries in today s society and, as such, produces
large numbers of content every year. This content is indicative of larger systems of power and
oppression and is filled with many different instances of sexism.
Between 19995 and 2005, about 90% of films made were teenages films (Behm Morawitz and Mastro,
pg 134). In this specific genre, female characters were much more likely to engage in socially
aggressive behaviors like spreading rumors or using the silent treatment. They were also more likely
to be rewarded for such behaviors than their male counterparts (behm Morawitz and Mastro, pg 136).
When considering that the majority of movies released during this time frame depicted females being

Since the film industry is already a very gendered space, women have to work twice as hard to keep
their job because they do not want to be considered whiners or emotional, words that their male
coworkers never have to be worried about. Careers in the film industry are also a lot shorter for
women because of the societal ideas around women aging. People tend to judge women more harshly
as they age than they do with a man of the same age. In fact, many consider a woman to be in her
prime at a much younger age than men. Many also believe that woman s attractiveness decreases
much faster as she ages than a man (De Pater, Judge, and Scott, pg 410). While women manage to
breakthrough in the film industry, they still face a large number of obstacles that their male colleagues

Examples Of Ritzer Mcdonaldization In The Film Falling Down
In the movie Falling Down there are multiple examples of the Ritzer McDonaldization Theory. As
soon as the customer walks in he is greeted by a cashier who will take his order, this is an example of
efficiency. Soon after the customer started ordering food the cashier explained to him that breakfast
was over at 11:30 and he must order from the lunch menu. That was an example of predictability,
many chain restaurants have a set schedule of when they stop serving breakfast. When the cashier
informs the customer that he must order from the lunch menu, this makes the customer aggitated and
refers to her by her first name (Sheila). This occurs because the cashier is wearing a name tag, an
example of control monitoring for companies to make sure

Privatization Of Municipal Solid Waste
The privatization of municipal solid waste is a process by which municipalities decide to contract with
private organizations for the collection and processing of societal waste. President and CEO of Brolin
Enterprises which provides contracting services for pipeline maintenance, tank services, erosion
control, vacs trucking, one call monitoring, right of way clearing, pig tracking, and emergency
response believes municipalities should be more open to privatization of collection services (Begley
2011). Begley believes that communities have resisted privatization because solid waste management
systems have always been considered a utility provided by the public sector (Begley 2011). He points
to the economic downturn of 2008 as a major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Worrell and Vesilind (2012) private service providers will claim to have greater
efficiencies with less wastefulness, and more motivation for profit while public sector service
providers will claim it is more cost efficient because it is a non profit that does not pay taxes (Worrell
Vesilind 2012). Advocates of privatization such as Begley and Scott would argue that the bureaucratic
restriction of easily accessible resources required to effectively manage municipal solid waste is a
serious restriction which costs time and money. While proponents of public solid waste management
are concerned with the potential monopolization of these systems through mergers and acquisitions
which can stifle market competition (Worrell Vesilind 2012).
By using the situation of Carrollton, Texas in 2004 as an example we can clearly recognize that solid
waste management costs were reduced through privatization. According to Scott (2004) a public
sector department called Carrollton Solid Waste Division (CSW) lost a competition bid for solid waste
services because the department was not able to convince the committee members they would be able
to compete with productivity, experience, and customer service of private sector service providers.
Scott (2004) recognized that costs of service were to

Ida B. Wells was a woman dedicated to a cause, a cause to prevent hundreds of thousands of people
from being murdered by lynching. Lynching is defined as to take the law into its own hands and kill
someone in punishment for a crime or a presumed crime. Ida B. Wells amp;#8217; back round made
her a logical spokesperson against lynching. She drew on many experiences throughout her life to aid
in her crusade. Her position as a black woman, however, affected her credibility both in and out of

Her energetic campaign for truth and justice gave her a lot of attention to fuel her crusade. All these
factors support the fact that her background made her an ample spokes person for the anti lynching
campaign. Adding to her credibility, personal experiences also gave her more of a drive to continue
her crusade.
She became a leading community activist through a sequence of events. In 1884 Ida was riding a train
in a first class car, when she was asked to move to the smoking car. When she refused, two conductors
tried to physically move her. She instead got off the train and filed a discrimination lawsuit. The
lawsuit was initially won, but the Tennessee Supreme Court overturned the verdict. After the train
incident, in 1889, Ida went to The Free Speech paper; this is where her most promising worked
developed. In 1892, three of her friends were brutally killed during a lynching. This one particular
event opened the eyes of Wells and prompted her to write some of her most controversial works yet.
However this type of writing got the Free Speech office ransacked and destroyed. The other owner of
the Free Speech barely escaped with his life, but he carried the message that if Ida were to show her
face ever again in Tennessee she would be killed. Now with all this ammunition based on personal
experience, even as an African American woman, she had gained credibility to be able to speak with

Life On The Home Front During World War II

Life on the Home Front During World War II During the 1930s. the United States faced one of the
greatest economic depressions in history, known as the Great Depression. Since many people
essentially manipulated the stock market to their advantage, they eventually got richer. However, on
October 29,1929, the stock market crashed since so many people wanted to sell their stocks but so few
people wanted to buy these products, which caused prices to collapse. This led up to issues such as
banking crisis, where banks who invested so heavily on the stock market lost so much money. In fact,
people who deposited money lose everything they had. In addition, factories that has overproduced
goods had also lost tons of money since businesses were producing far more goods than people were
consuming. All these events that led to the Great Depression. Although Franklin D. Roosevelt came
into office in 1933 and released his plans known as the New Deal which were essentially government
programs that provided aid to Americans, it did not change the fact that the economy was still largely
suffering. Meanwhile, tensions in Europe also increased as European countries were devastated from
the hard times occurring in their nation. Following totalitarianism as a political system, many
European countries were led by dictators. One of the most important dictator, was German leader
Adolph Hitler. Germany, who had lost a lot power and land, after the loss in World War I and the

The Gas Of Houston Natural Gas
Enron was formed through the merger of Houston Natural Gas of Houston (HNG), Texas and
InterNorth. Houston natural gas covered the Florida and California market, their pipelines running
from east to west and InterNorth catered the Iowa and Minnesota market, their pipelines running from
north to south. HNG was formed in 1920, providing gas to retail customers in Houston. The company
sold its retail gas business in 1920 and ventured into the gas exploration and production business. In
the year 1984, HNG had $3.7 billion in assets, over $2 billion in sales and booked profits of $123
million. InterNorth was a natural pipeline company located in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1984 InterNorth
had revenues of $7.5 billion. The reason behind the merger was that InterNorth faced the threat of a
buyout by corporate raiders as it had low debt and high revenues. The conservative operations and low
debt of InterNorth made it a target for corporate raiders who planned to use its cash reserves and
borrowing capacity to extract funds for themselves. On the other hand HNG Company had borrowed
heavily to expand its pipelines in the Florida and California markets. Therefore merging with Houston
Natural Gas made perfect sense as it fended off corporate raiders. In May 1984 InterNorth acquired
HNG for $2.4 billion, under the leadership of Sam Segnar who was the CEO of InterNorth at that
time. The negotiations for HNG were handled by John Wing and he was able to negotiate a price for

Atoms Within Magnets
All magnets produce their own invisible magnetic field that s unable to be seen with the naked eye,
and each magnetic field interacts with other magnetic fields. Magnets are made of metals like iron ore,

certain metals such as iron, steel, nickel, or cobalt. They have two poles, one of them is north pole,
while the other is called the south pole. The opposite poles attract, while the same ones repel one
another. Everything is made of atoms, and magnets are no exceptions (Rutledge, McDaniel, Boudreau,

Acts were a way to punish the people of the Boston Tea Party. Once the British government found out

Pros And Cons Of Corporal Punishment In Schools
The bell rings. Students walk to art class where they are told not to drop the rulers on the floor. One
student accidentally drops the ruler, hoping the teacher will not notice, fearing he will be beaten.
However, the teacher sees it and paddles the student five times. The student now has severe bruising
on his bottom just for dropping a ruler. This is not how it should be. Thirty nine states have banned
corporal punishment because it is dangerous in schools and not a suitable punishment for
students(Morin). Corporal Punishment should not be allowed in schools because it promotes violence,
it creates an unsafe environment, and it has a lasting impact on kids. Corporal punishment should not
be allowed in schools because it promotes violence. Many students have been beaten by their teachers
for doing something negative in school, and have gotten the message that violence is a good thing.
The American Academy of Pediatrics has stated some examples of this in the article Should Corporal
Punishment Be Used in K 12 Schools .They explained that Children who experience corporal
punishment are more likely to hit or use violence against people to get their way. (Procon.com) This
example shows that schools that use corporal punishment, teach that it is ok to use violence to get
what students want. Students who see or experience corporal punishment get the message that
violence is necessary to get their way. In other words, when those kids are out in the real world, they

Procedural Programming Of Programming Languages
Programming Languages
Definition of the term program
A program in computing is a predefined list of instructions that, when run or executed , tell a computer
to carry out a task and how to it.
Overview of procedural, object orientated and event driven programs
In programming, there are many different paradigms, also known as structures or styles that allow the
programmer a means to build or structure different elements within a computer program. These
paradigms are: procedural, event driven and object orientated.
Applications that can be developed using these paradigms
Procedural programming uses a list of instructions to tell the computer what to do step by step.
Procedural programming relies on you guessed it procedures, also known as routines or subroutines. A
procedure contains a series of computational steps to be carried out. Procedural programming is also
referred to as imperative programming. Procedural programming languages are also known as top
down languages.
Procedural programming is intuitive in the sense that it is very similar to how you would expect a
program to work. If you want a computer to do something, you should provide step by step
instructions on how to do it. It is, therefore, no surprise that most of the early programming languages
are all procedural.
The procedural paradigm uses a list of instructions as a basis. These tell the computer what to do, and
how to do it step by step. The procedural paradigm does rely on subroutines or

What Are The Eight Assumptions Of Family Systems Theory
Smith and Hamon, chapter 5, discussed Family Systems Theory (FST), which I found to be not only
insightful, but also beneficial to me as I assess my patients and their families, but also as I reflect upon
my own family. FST addresses eight assumptions which I found to be engaging and shine light on how
families function and how we as APNs might begin to look at the family dynamic in order to better
assist these families cope with the stressors of life while at the same time address their family needs in
a productive and meaningful way. The following are the eight assumptions of the FST, 3 of which I

Straight Out Of Compton Any publicity is good publicity. Aspiring rapper Eric Eazy E Wright states to
the rest of his fellow N.W.A brothers as they sit to discuss the police and F.B.I threats that they have
been receiving in the mall. The movie Straight Out of Compton is based on the true story about six
troubled some young black men residing in Compton, California who rise unexpectedly to fame, using
their viciously honest rhymes, die hard beats, and frustrations about their lifestyle in the streets of the

The movie Straight Out of Compton is an intense rollercoaster of chaos and suspense, but is too

components help differentiate one company from another and the role this plays in contributing to
their success. We looked at which business model components, such as value proposition, target
customers, distribution channels, and revenue streams, are important. The type of e business models
each company used and the ones that are more successful were investigated. We discovered some

Dubosson Torbay et al. (2002) identify the principal dimensions user s role, interaction pattern, nature
of the offering, pricing system, level of customization, and economic control for classifying e business
models. Rappa (2001) describes companies by their value proposition and ways of generating revenue.
His classification has nine categories of e business models: brokerage model, advertising model,
infomediary model, merchant model, manufacturer model, affiliate model, community model,
subscription model and utility model. E business models are comprised of a set of components so we
need to choose the appropriate application framework to define the relationship between them. The
growth of e business has raised interest in transforming traditional business models to exploit
opportunities through innovation (Pateli and Giaglis, 2003). The internet has changed the idea of a
business model and this has practical implications for companies. Consequently, companies need to
redefine customer value propositions, and their business model. Enhancing customer experience helps
to reshape customer value propositions (Berman and Bell, 2011). Creating new digital capabilities
helps to refine the operating model by leveraging information to manage organizations, and
integrating and optimizing digital and physical components (Berman and Bell, 2011). Effective use of

An Integral Part Of All Modern Societies
Nikolay Kolev

Humanities 2
Dec, 15, 2015 Written works have been an integral part of all modern societies. This is even more so
true with the Puritans, whose life was governed by their religious principles. It is crucial to realise to
what degree religion is nested inside the Puritan mindset. Their faith was not simply common ideas
they shared. For them their religion was the only thing that could be important, it was the basis of their
values and communal structure. For example they left on the journey to america so they could freely
worship their religion and to show the rest of the world the moral high ground it represented. This was
because of the definite way their faith was structured. They believed in the concept of ... Show more

Consider the fearful danger you are in: It is a great furnace of wrath, a wide and bottomless pit, full of
fire of wrath, that you are held over in the hand of that God .
As is to be expected from their religion Puritan writing can be divided into three major categories
religious literature, poetry and journals. All Puritan writing had a common goal To transform a
mysterious god mysterious because he is separate from the world while also glorifying him. Another
important thing to notice that is common between all Puritan writing is that it always has a clearly
defined purpose.Looking at their religious literature it s easy to see that it is actually in fact influenced
by their religious devotion(...). Their sermons were usually plain in style as to stay with their original
idea and purpose without losing coherency, while also appealing to the common listener as straight to
the point and convincing. There are a couple of main themes a sermon could have. It could be
preaching to the people who do not share their beliefs with the Puritans. Such a sermon would
describe the danger in which nonbelievers are while urging them to rethink their way of life and
understand that fleeing to christ is their only salvation. An example of such a sermon would be Sinners

believe since my midterm reflection my oral communication has been well received by the audience. I
was able improve on my articulation with technical accounting terms and the feedback I received on
my listening and oral communication was positive with minor areas of improvement.
Personal Oral Communication Question
Question: What are some observations that you have made from other people you worked with that
will be beneficial to improving your oral communication?
Response: Some observations that I made during the second half of my co op terms were the non
verbal features and vocal aspects of oral communication. From observing my manager on my biggest

that he was engaged in the conversation at all times. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason why this class was the most valuable was because it taught me different techniques of
communication and to be aware of the bad habits that I was having. It was also taught in a small,
comfortable environment of 30 students which gave me more confidence to participate, thus giving
me more opportunities to practice speaking in front of other individuals. In addition, in SPCOM111
we had to do an individual presentation on a topic of our choice. This was a memorable experience
because it forced me to get out of my comfort zone and to present in front of 30 students, what I
learned from this experience was to be confident in myself and that it will show in my oral
communication. Overall, the takebacks from this experience was improvement in my confidence in
public speaking, different skills on how to communicate effectively in the work place as well as the
knowledge to consciously make an effort to break bad habits when

Apgar Score Lab Report
Dr. Virginia Apgar introduced the Apgar Score in 1952. Apgar was an obstetrical anesthetist and the
first woman to be named a full professor at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
By studying the effects of labor anesthetics on a new born baby, she invented the Apgar Scale. This
scale was created to determine how prepared the baby is for life outside of the womb. Standard Apgar
testing is done one minute post partum and then again at five minutes post partum. The first test is
done to see how well the baby managed the birthing process. The second test is used to see how the
baby is tolerating being outside of the womb. Using five different tests/assessments, the baby is either
determined healthy or dependent upon immediate medical attention. Babies are scored 0 2 with 0
being the worst and 2 being the best.
The five tests are simple and quickly determine the health of the baby. The tests can be performed by a
doctor, nurse, or midwife. The first test consists of checking the respiration effort of the baby. Crying
is scored at a 2 on the Apgar Score, labored or irregular breathing is a 1, and absence of breathing is a
0. The second test performed is the most crucial: the heart rate. ... Show more content on

body being pink is scored as a 2, but if the limbs and extremities are blue, a 1 is recorded. If the whole
body is blue (cyanotic), the score is a 0. Blue hands and feet are common in newborn babies, which is
why a 10 is very uncommon with the Apgar Score. The last test in the Apgar Score is the muscle test.

Comparing Goldilocks And Bill Cleaver s Where The Lilies...
The novel, Where the Lilies Bloom has a striking similarity to the tale of Goldilocks and the Three
Bears. When you take a look at Where the Lilies Bloom, by Vera and Bill Cleaver, the comparison
becomes eminent very quickly. Within the first couple of chapters, the characters in Where the Lilies
Bloom begin to resemble characters in Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Kiser Peace, an uneducated
and superstitious man, takes the role of the bear in this story. Mary Call Luther, an intelligent young
girl who has become the head of the household after her father s death, and Romey, Mary Call s 10
year old brother, start to both represent Goldilocks. Goldilocks and the Three Bears is definitely
comparable to Where the Lilies Bloom. This first quote can make it easier to see how these two books
coincide. Romey and Mary Call are outside of Kiser s house when Romey says, It s not latched. You
reckon it d be all right if we just went in (Cleaver 20)? If that s not enough later, Mary Call says, Let s
just step inside a minute, Romey (Cleaver 21). In the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears,
Goldilocks enters the bear s house without their permission. This quote clearly depicts how related
these books are. It is easy to see the resemblance here but there is much more evidence to back this up.

Goldilocks is in the house she steals some porridge. This certainly illustrates Romey and Mary Call

The Importance Of Conflicts In Victorian Literature
1. Introduction The introduction is designed to make the goals of a writer clear to the reader by
outlining the general topics discussed throughout the paper, and it provides a clear and concise thesis
statement to wrap all the topics together to convey a point. The introduction is probably the most
important part of a paper because it sets up the tone and argument strategy for the rest of the paper.
My introduction in paper 1B was revised in order to provide a thesis that was less broad and that
highlighted what the multitude of unusual conflicts (1) originated from in the story of The Lifted Veil .
As suggested by the professor, I borrowed ideas voiced in my conclusion to showcase that these
conflicts stem from this mental power of Latimer s rather than some vague source. Also, I specified
that the conflict characterizes Latimer s internal struggle to resolve any confusion as to what is being
characterized. It is highly important that the reader is not confused as to what the thesis is trying to
convey because then the paper could be interpreted in multiple ways, all of which may not align with
the author s intended message.
In the writing of paper 3A, I made sure to make my introduction specific and clear. First I started
broadly discussing Victorian writing as a whole, but I quickly narrowed down to the topic of
obsessively desiring a connection with a deceased loved one in order to prepare the reader for the
upcoming thesis statement. The thesis that

Analysis Of The Poem The Wife Of Bath Essay
Analytical Essay on the Wife of Bath.
By Chaucer s time, the antifeminism tradition was very strong and had grown up. Her faith on
marriage is surprising to men, especially during that period of time. She is a skilled woman, and
knows how to defend her views on marriage and sex, in which she blows the idealistic of
antifeminism by interpreting the bible to her benefit. And, when someone in authority disagrees with
her, she relies on her experience. Wife of Bath Tale provides insight and understanding of the women
change and their view mainly in matters of family, marriage, authority and marital affairs. The Prolog
is double the size of her Tale, a lot of information about marriage is given, the position of women in
the society and their quest for control and authority. Wife of Bath can be said to be a very progressive
woman (Minnis, 2008). To start with, her own Prolog has been displayed being twice the size of Tale.
The length Prologue is a clear indication of how much she is being focused upon and holding a lot of
attention and control in the whole Tale. Wife of Bath shares her information showing that she is a
woman of progress and activities as well as the change in her Tale. She announces about herself that
she has already have had five husbands near the holy grounds of the church place. Giving information
and description of how she has mastered the art of engaging men and handling them in bed and love
affairs, The Wife of Bath does not see anything wrong with

  • 2. The Evolution Of Owls Owls are interesting nocturnal animals that have evolved in many ways other than birds. There are over 200 different species of owls and they have all evolved differently but they share some common characteristics. Some environmental adaptations that owls have are silent flight, keen eyesight, and the ability to hunt. Owls have silent flight which helps them catch prey. They also fly without much effort, because their wings are large compared with the size of their bodies. With large wings and a light body one can see an owl fly past but they will most likely not hear them. Because of this owls can carry heavy animals, fly among thick trees, and hover above open fields. Owls have silent flight from fringed feathers that muffle the sound ... • 3. Personal Narrative Of My Life Personal Narrative One day in mid November, I thought that one of the worst days in my life had come. I walked into my parent s room, and I found my mother rushing to gather things to go somewhere. Curiously, I asked my mom where she was going, and why she was in such a rush. My mom said, Julia was in a bad car accident on the way home from school and is headed to the hospital. I m going up there to see if there is anything I can do to help. Immediately many questions came to my mind, but I knew that it would be best to not ask until she was sure of the answers and had more information. Julia was family to me, but not my blood. I have known her since I was born, and she has always been around since. Her Aunt is my mother s best friend as well as my Godmother. She has known Julia s family for over 30 years. I wasn t as close to Julia as I would ve liked to be, but I still knew her very well. She was only 17 years old and it was her Senior year in high school. Since my mom is a Pediatric nurse at Baptist, it was no surprise to me that my mom was going there to help. I told her to update me as soon as she found out anything. After my mom left to go to the hospital, I sat on the couch anxiously waiting for any information from her. Eventually my mom texted me saying that she was in critical condition and in a coma. She also said that she had to be on a ventilator and wasn t responding to anything. With that information, I knew that this was something very serious and that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ill. 1985) to distinguish between expenses that are mere overhead, and cannot be reimbursed, with those that are directly chargeable to the estate. As the Thacker court explained, expenses related to a professionals overhead have a common characteristic in that they are incurred by the firm on a day to day basis, no matter whom it represents. The traditional way to spread these kinds of daily expenses among all the firm s clients is for the firm to structure its hourly rates to take such expenses into consideration. In re Thacker, 48 B.R. at 164. On the other hand, [c]ompensable, out of pocket expenses are those which can be clearly and fairly charged to the Debtors. Court fees, transcription fees, out of town travel expenses, delivery service, long distance telephone calls and postage expenses, are examples of expenses which can be clearly traced to an applicant s representation of Debtors, as opposed to the firm s other clients. Id. at 10. This Court in Wyche noted: The Thacker court s distinction between overhead and reimbursable expenses comports with the Bankruptcy Code in that it permits reimbursement only for expenditures made to satisfy the particular necessities of individual case administration. Meanwhile, the Thacker definition disallows costs connected to the daily operations of a law firm. • 5. China Pollution China s Pollution Problem China, one of the worlds largest industrial powers, is now facing a difficult situation. China s industries rely largely on coal power which emits harmful gases, causing intense air pollution. The Chinese government, in fear that the country would fall in a recession, has not done much to stop these industries, so China has become the second largest greenhouse gas emitter in the world. The types of pollution created by this include air pollution and water pollution, both of which are harmful to people and wildlife. China s problem has become the world s problem. Nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides disgorged by coal fired power plants fall as acid rain on Seoul and Tokyo, and much of the particulate pollution in Los ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And the country is pushing equally hard to build nuclear reactors and the most efficient types of coal power plants. As China made great efforts to dominate renewable energy technologies, it has the advantage of being the world s largest market for power equipment. The government spends heavily to upgrade the electricity grid, committing $45 billion in 2009 alone and state owned banks provide generous financing. China s commitment to renewable energy is expensive. Although costs are falling steeply through mass production, wind energy is still 20 to 40 percent more expensive than coal fired power and solar power is still at least twice as expensive as coal. The Chinese government charges a renewable energy fee to all electricity users and the fee increases residential electricity bills by 0.25 percent to 0.4 percent, but for industrial users of electricity, the fee doubled in November, 2010, to roughly 0.8 percent of the electricity bill. The fee revenue goes to companies that operate the electricity grid, to make up the cost difference between renewable energy and coal fired power. Renewable energy fees are not yet high enough to affect China s competitiveness even in energy intensive industries, said the chairman of a Chinese industrial company, who asked not to be identified because of the political sensitivity of electricity rates in China. Grid operators are unhappy because they are reimbursed for the extra cost of buying renewable energy instead of coal fired ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His difficult life influenced his melancholy writings. Edgar Allan Poe was born January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. His parent s occupation was traveling actors. At the age of two, his father abandoned the family leaving young Poe without a father figure. Poe s mother was poor, which resulted in him having an extremely hard childhood. His mother passed away as he was growing up and his foster parent John Allan, a wealthy Richmond tobacco merchant, took Poe into his household. Poe did not have the best relationship with John Allan, in fact he felt very uncertain about it. When Poe turned seventeen he attended the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The constant answer of nevermore sent the narrator in a frenzy, just as Poe knew Virginia would no longer come back and he turned to alcohol. At that moment the situation was made worse. The narrator is hoping when he dies he s going to see Lenore in Heaven as Poe is hoping to see Virginia. When the raven says nevermore it gives the narrator idea that she possibly did not make it to Heaven, and he would not see Lenore anymore. Since Virginia was also known as Lenore, one could believe that Poe is relating to the poem to him seeing Virginia again in Heaven. Poe s The Raven is the poem that stands out the most because in it, Poe determines it is some kind of messenger coming to Poe to answer whether he will ever see his love Lenore. Poe had many great poems and short stories such as The Fall of the House of Usher . This portrayed a dark and gloomy theme of the Usher family. The narrator approaches the house of Usher on a dark and quiet day at midnight. The narrator sees the house; it looks to have been absorbed by a wicked spirit and contaminated atmosphere from the rotting trees and unclear tarns in the area. Roderick was also the cause of the bad vibe the narrator got when he arrived at the house. He lost communication with the outside world and buried his sister alive. Their family had a hidden secret, which was incest. In the article Sprits of the Dead, Poe states, The breeze the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In intrinsic pathway after cell ECM detachment, BH3 only proteins (Bim and Bid) stimulate Bax and Bak pro apoptotic proteins oligomerization and pore creation in mitochondrial outer membrane. Because of these pores, cytochrome C and SMAC/DIABLO proteins will be release from mitochondria into the cytosol. Cells take a different type of motility style in their transient displacement like Mesenchymal and amoeboid movement. Motile cells with Mesenchymal form exhibit pro survival signals activation. In amoeboid motile cells interaction with ECM does not require for movement and survival and they suppress anoikis by using cytokine and growth factor instead of ECM proteins. Acquisition of the Mesenchymal phenotype is functionally associated with the ability to overcome anoikis /another process involved in anoikis resistance is EMT which is an essential feature that allows epithelial cells participate in physiological process like embryogenesis. For thirty six years people had believed that Justin Delaney was the pure blooded heir of the Delaney family, inheritor of a rather respectable fortune, and an expert in Arithmancy if one was so inclined to seek guidance on that subject. Most of those things were true except for the part about being a pure blood... most thought his mother was Victoria Black Delaney, daughter of the famous Black household who had married another respectable pure blood... this wasn t true though as his father had enjoyed a dalliance with a Succubus... • 12. The Feminization Of Poverty And Poverty Poverty has increasingly become a noticeable issue worldwide over the past couple of decades. With the middle class steadily decreasing, considerable amounts of people are becoming part of the lower class, and even more of our world s population are beginning to live in poverty. It is important to understand there are different definitions of poverty, and that is largely determined by what each country s government determines as the cut off of poverty, otherwise known as the poverty line . Although some people could live above the poverty line, and still be struggling financially, it goes unrecognized by most research collection. However, what was initially noticed around the 1970 s is that there was a significant rise in women s poverty statistics. More female headed households were living in poverty, and a majority of those women belonged to a minority. This recognizable trend has been deemed the feminization of poverty , which according research is not only a growing problem in North America, but several other countries around the world. Information gathered about this issue in the United States shows that female headed households is by far the fastest growing type of family structure, and due to the fact there is a growing poverty level amongst this group, it now means that approximately half of the all the poor in the United States live in a women headed family and household. People tend to judge women more harshly as they age than they do with a man of the same age. In fact, many consider a woman to be in her prime at a much younger age than men. Many also believe that woman s attractiveness decreases much faster as she ages than a man (De Pater, Judge, and Scott, pg 410). Houston natural gas covered the Florida and California market, their pipelines running from east to west and InterNorth catered the Iowa and Minnesota market, their pipelines running from north to south. HNG was formed in 1920, providing gas to retail customers in Houston. The company sold its retail gas business in 1920 and ventured into the gas exploration and production business. In the year 1984, HNG had $3.7 billion in assets, over $2 billion in sales and booked profits of $123 million. InterNorth was a natural pipeline company located in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1984 InterNorth had revenues of $7.5 billion. The reason behind the merger was that InterNorth faced the threat of a buyout by corporate raiders as it had low debt and high revenues. The conservative operations and low debt of InterNorth made it a target for corporate raiders who planned to use its cash reserves and borrowing capacity to extract funds for themselves. On the other hand HNG Company had borrowed heavily to expand its pipelines in the Florida and California markets. Procedural Programming Of Programming Languages Programming Languages Definition of the term program A program in computing is a predefined list of instructions that, when run or executed , tell a computer to carry out a task and how to it. Overview of procedural, object orientated and event driven programs In programming, there are many different paradigms, also known as structures or styles that allow the programmer a means to build or structure different elements within a computer program. These paradigms are: procedural, event driven and object orientated. Applications that can be developed using these paradigms Procedural programming uses a list of instructions to tell the computer what to do step by step. Procedural programming relies on you guessed it procedures, also known as routines or subroutines. A procedure contains a series of computational steps to be carried out. Procedural programming is also referred to as imperative programming. Procedural programming languages are also known as top down languages. Procedural programming is intuitive in the sense that it is very similar to how you would expect a program to work. If you want a computer to do something, you should provide step by step instructions on how to do it. It is, therefore, no surprise that most of the early programming languages are all procedural. Apgar was an obstetrical anesthetist and the first woman to be named a full professor at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. By studying the effects of labor anesthetics on a new born baby, she invented the Apgar Scale. This scale was created to determine how prepared the baby is for life outside of the womb. Standard Apgar testing is done one minute post partum and then again at five minutes post partum. The first test is done to see how well the baby managed the birthing process. The second test is used to see how the baby is tolerating being outside of the womb. Using five different tests/assessments, the baby is either determined healthy or dependent upon immediate medical attention. Babies are scored 0 2 with 0 being the worst and 2 being the best. The five tests are simple and quickly determine the health of the baby. The tests can be performed by a doctor, nurse, or midwife. When you take a look at Where the Lilies Bloom, by Vera and Bill Cleaver, the comparison becomes eminent very quickly. Within the first couple of chapters, the characters in Where the Lilies Bloom begin to resemble characters in Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Kiser Peace, an uneducated and superstitious man, takes the role of the bear in this story. Mary Call Luther, an intelligent young girl who has become the head of the household after her father s death, and Romey, Mary Call s 10 year old brother, start to both represent Goldilocks. Goldilocks and the Three Bears is definitely comparable to Where the Lilies Bloom. This first quote can make it easier to see how these two books coincide. Introduction The introduction is designed to make the goals of a writer clear to the reader by outlining the general topics discussed throughout the paper, and it provides a clear and concise thesis statement to wrap all the topics together to convey a point. The introduction is probably the most important part of a paper because it sets up the tone and argument strategy for the rest of the paper. My introduction in paper 1B was revised in order to provide a thesis that was less broad and that highlighted what the multitude of unusual conflicts (1) originated from in the story of The Lifted Veil . As suggested by the professor, I borrowed ideas voiced in my conclusion to showcase that these conflicts stem from this mental power of Latimer s rather than some vague source. Also, I specified that the conflict characterizes Latimer s internal struggle to resolve any confusion as to what is being characterized. It is highly important that the reader is not confused as to what the thesis is trying to convey because then the paper could be interpreted in multiple ways, all of which may not align with the author s intended message. In the writing of paper 3A, I made sure to make my introduction specific and clear. First I started broadly discussing Victorian writing as a whole, but I quickly narrowed down to the topic of obsessively desiring a connection with a deceased loved one in order to prepare the reader for the upcoming thesis statement. It suggests the use of logs generated by cloud due to different activities performed, defining the policies of which log file should be kept and which files must be transferred, and reporting of the attacks and threats and attacks based on the analysis of these logs. Algorithms like map reduce are applied which can report about the patterns which can lead to attacks based on comparison with the stored values. Updating the policies based on the new findings during the analysis of the logs files. The paper Event Correlation for Log Analysis in the Cloud proposes an approach for correlating different log based events so that these logs can be segregated [4]. It uses Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) like OpenStack and through various correlation condition like Attribute Based Correlation, Conjunctive Correlation, and Disjunctive Correlation and through this correlation criteria are set.
