Dow Chemical Company
I decided to construct my essay on Dow Chemicals (DC) Company after reading an article in Business
Week. Dow Chemical appears to be developing an aggressive market strategy that aligns with our
class topics, and that I have found very interesting. Dow Chemical (DC) company, over the last seven
years has built their strategy around and focused on their niche , which is core chemicals amp; plastics
manufacturing operations, while simultaneously reducing infrastructure debt, expanding its market
share, and apparently building new strategic alliances. According to Dow Chemical CEO William
Stavropoulos, The mission and goals of Dow Chemical company is to be a world leader in chemical
and plastics manufacturing by developing new customer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was achieved by reducing the workforce by 30 percent and eliminating seven layers of
management. The current management structure contains only five people between the most junior
employee and the Chief Executive Officer. Dow Chemical appears to have embraced a Global
Strategy, which is increasing profitability by reaping the cost reductions that come from experience
curves and location economies and by expanding its market share outside of its home country. This
business savvy type of management approach seeks to penetrate a huge market availability, which as
global markets develop will gradually combine into just one market. In developing their mission goals
and corporate strategy, Dow Chemical has obviously considered both External and Internal
stakeholders and how strategic maneuvers would impact their ultimate goals. Examples of stakeholder
impacts are: External Stakeholders: Customers: Provide the core of revenue, especially in untapped
markets overseas. Suppliers: Provide input w/significant savings through combined purchasing with
Union Carbide Company and 13 other large companies. Governments: Significant reduced
manufacturing restrictions and potential incentives to conduct business in foreign countries. Unions:
Many foreign countries are not unionized, which could be a production cost incentive. Internal
Stakeholders: Stockholders: Maximizing their Return On Investment by expanding operations and
gaining access to difficult markets.

Management Theories In Classroom Management
2.4 Behaviour management theories While classroom management theory is constantly evolving.
There are many types of behaviour management and discipline strategies for the classroom. Some of
the theories are directly applicable and some theories can use with our own personal mix.
Understanding these theories can help educators define their own classroom management methods and
make decisions about how to best approach interactions with students (Hussung, 2016). 2.4.1 The
Assertive Discipline Model This theory, proposed by Lee Canter (1976), suggests that students
positive behaviours should be recognized and encouraged. As per his theory, teachers should inform
students about expectations they have as well as rules they have set. Once they inform students, they
will closely monitor who follow these guidelines. According to his theory, teachers should be
entrusted with the right to teach without any intervention, while students should learn without any
interruption (Edu excellence organisation, 2016). Most important thing in this model is teacher always
reinforced positive more than negative. However, if the student violates the rules persistently, then he
or she is punished. This include five steps namely; warning the student, giving 10 minute time out in
isolation, giving the student a 15 minute time out in isolation, calling the student s parents and finally,
sending the student to the principal s office. However, this approach is not practicable for the
teenagers. Because

The Differences between Normative and Pathological Child Behavior:
Oppositional Defiant Disorder
DEFINING OPPOSITIONAL DEFIANT DISORDER Children diagnosed with oppositional defiant
disorder, ODD, are characterized as displaying symptoms of age inappropriate recurrent pattern of
stubborn, hostile, disobedient, and defiant disorders , usually appearing prior to the child entering his
eighth year of age (Mash Wolfe, 2013). The DSM also lists impulse control disorders, substance abuse
disorders, and anxiety and mood disorders as comorbid disorders that children with ODD have a
considerable risk of developing. However, the diagnosis of oppositional defiant ... Show more content

The study compared rates of symptoms of oppositional defiant disorder between children referred to
behavior health clinics, and children who had not been referred. Symptoms studied included losing
temper, defying adult s requests, argues with adults, purposely annoys others, blames others, easily
annoyed, angry and resentful, and spiteful and vindictive (Keenan Wakschlag, 2004). Overall, the
study found that rates of oppositional defiant disorder symptoms were significantly higher in referred
than non referred preschoolers (Keenan Wakschlag, 2004). In other words, while only 4 8% of
children not believed to have oppositional defiant disorder exhibited the symptoms in question, a
significant amount of children diagnosed with oppositional defiant disorder, ranging from 30 73%, did
exhibit the symptoms. These numbers are strong evidence supporting the theory that oppositional
defiant disorder is, in face, a legitimate psychological disorder, and is not merely bad behavior.
COMORBIDITY
Oppositional defiant disorder, apart from being characterized by behaviors more severe than those
exhibited by children not diagnosed, is also correlated to an increased risk in several other disorders.
These disorders include impulse control disorders, substance abuse disorders, and mood and anxiety
disorders. A

Final Thoughts (Whole Book) This book is not like any other, and as a whole had four main impacts
on me. First it taught me about the complexity of elementary mathematics and not to underestimate it.
Secondly, it taught me about the consequences becoming overly dependent on mathematical aids
(leading to doing and not understanding). Thirdly, it taught me the reasons behind why we do certain
mathematical procedures. Lastly it gave me tips for future teaching and parenting.
One of the main themes in this book is challenging the notion of how simple it is to teach elementary
kids. In fact it is profound. Often times, professional mathematicians are so enveloped in their
complex and high level ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This reminds us not to underestimate and overlook elementary mathematics that appears basic.
Mathematical diversions, therefore, cannot be taught without the students understanding of the basic
mathematical foundations. It is like learning to play an instrument; one must know the basics before
being able to play a piece.
Learning about the long and tiresome process of transforming ordinary fractions into decimal fractions
has made me realize how much I had taken for granted using calculator for the past decade. There are
downsides to relying more on the calculator than relying on old fashioned mind. Patterns as Aids
becomes a problem when a student follows rules without understanding and calculates large numbers
mentally using tricks but fails to understand the purpose of the processes or steps. Therefore it is better
to understand less but thoroughly, than to be an expert in memorizing tricks and rules without any
understanding. Principles must be taken apart, and each ingredient learned and taught individually.
When something sounds hard or difficult, it usually means we did not break the problem into portions.
Often I take for granted and overlooked simple aspects of math that I automatically perform. This

How Did Lucy Burns Contribute To The Suffragist Movement
Alice Paul, Lucy Burns, and the Suffragist Movement
Alice Paul and Lucy Burns were two of the key cornerstones of the American Suffragist Movement.
Paul and Burns led to the creation of the 19th amendment that called for equal voting rights for men
and women in the United States and the Alice Paul amendment that called for total equality between
men and woman in the United States. The American Suffrage Movement took place in the 1900 s.
During the American Suffragist Movement Alice Paul and Lucy Burns the leaders of the National

Pros And Cons Of Abolishing Standardized Tests

Abolishing Standardized Tests Standardized tests determine such a drastic amount of one s future. Not
only do students fail standardized tests, but they also lack the knowledge that one expects a child to
learn in their current grade. In general, teachers focus on preparing students for tests and not truly
teaching the material. This forces the question of whether or not standardized tests measure what
students have learned or their test taking skills. Many students have terrible test taking skills, which
results in substantially low scores. This does not result from lack of knowledge of the material, but
rather because they do not understand how to effectively take and finish tests. Students deserve a
proper education, therefore require a reliable educator. The majority of these failures result in lower
graduation rates, and the percent of workforce drastically drops. Standardized tests such as the
American College Test, the ACT, Scholastic Aptitude Test, the SAT, and core state tests should not
remain a deciding factor for passing a grade level or getting accepted into a certain college. One
reason includes students inability to afford needed test preparation. Misevaluating students knowledge
and skills when using structured tests continues to exemplify the major flaws in today s education
system. Therefore, standardized testing should not exist.

Market Ratios Between Financial Year 2010 Essay
Market Ratios between Financial Year 2010 and Financial Year 2015 Harvey Norman s share
performance in the marketplace is unstable as you can see in Table __ and Fig __. Its Price per share
reduced from Financial Year 2010 which had a value of $15.2 to a low in Financial Year 2011 of $7.6,
before increasing to $17 in Financial Year 2015, its maximum was in the Financial Year 2013 with a
whopping $23.5. Across this period Earnings Per Share (EPS) have averaged $0.18 which again
makes no difference as it was changing simultaneously. Earnings Yield suddenly had a reduction, with
shareholders in Financial Year 2015 theoretically paying $18.3 on Harvey Norman s shares. Despite
recent share gains and losses, Harvey Norman s Market to Book Value has improved since Financial
Year 2013, on the back of an increasing share price and lower book value. This would imply that
despite recent financial gains and losses investors are possibly expecting the administration to be able
to create value from Harvey Norman s assets and operations in the future. 4. SWOT ANALYSIS:
SWOT is an abbreviation for Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats which shows the

The Seven Sins Of Memory
The seven sins of memory are transience, absentmindedness, blocking, memory misattribution,
suggestibility, bias, and persistence. These are all considered failures of memory. Daniel Schacter, who
was the chair of Harvard University s psychology department, taught these rules.
The first being, Transience, transience is having an experience pass through our memory quickly. This
is related to short term memory because it not last long nor stick with us. For example, having a short
and meaningless conversation with acquaintance will usually not stay with us for a long time.
The next sin is Absentmindedness. Absentmindedness is a lack of attention given, which causes the
memory to fail. This can come from attempting to multi task or having ADD or ADHD. These cause
people to become distracted while something else is going on. Prospective memory is a major key in
absentmindedness because you are thinking about the past or future and not focusing on the present.
Blocking is another one of the seven sins which most people experience in their life and it is not as
severe. Blocking is the inability to remember information when are trying to recall it. Most people
refer to this as a Tip of the Tongue Experience . The tip of the tongue experience is an expression used
when a memory cannot be remembered, but you are very close to doing so. For example, trying to
remember something very little like a name of someone you met in the past. Blocking and Tip of the

Demand For A Product Or Service Essay
Demand for a product or service can be defined as the amount of a particular economic good or
service that a consumer or group of consumers will want to purchase at a given price over a specific
period of time. The demand is usually downward sloping, since consumers will want to buy more as
the price decreases. Demand for a good or service is determined by different factors other than price,
such as the price of substitute goods and complementary goods. In extreme cases, demand may be
completely unrelated to price, or nearly infinite at a given price (in the case of the tobacco industry)
(Beardshaw, 1991).
According to Philp, Dan and Galt (2009) it could be deduced that demand relative to the tobacco
industry is caused by a number of aspects in which the key driver is the price of the cigarettes.
Newport menthol 100s average price for a pack is $4.70 and a carton cost around $42.00. This price is
relative to it s competitor Marlboro menthol red cigarettes, which is the number one cigarette of all
time. Marlboro menthol red average price for a pack is $4.91 and a carton cost around $44.00. The
price of Newports is set because it s a brand loyalty product. For example, in the clothes market,
individuals would think of what Calvin Klein s would cost. If Parada sell 30% cheaper, then they
would consider paying a much lower price.
Cigarette valuing has long been a champion amongst the most fundamental advancing frameworks
utilized by the tobacco relationship as a part of the USA

Origins of the N-Word Essay
The words Negro, nigger, and nigga have always been a sensitive topic, yet it is a topic that needs to
be addressed in light of the more common use of its vernacular. One word is used to describe a color,
while the others are used to define a people. It s very clear to many the negative connotation these
words carry, but where did these words come from? Furthermore, is there a difference between the
word nigger and nigga; and why is it that African Americans now use the word nigga to degrade each
other in today s society? These words, in spite of their spelling, still holds the same degrading power
as it did during the time of slavery, and they are still spoken out of cruelty and ignorance, but who is to

The Europeans no longer used the word to describe a color, but used it to describe a people. No matter
what the origin, this word was used as a weapon to destroy and kill the mind and spirit of a race, and
has become the self fulfilling prophecy for many African Americans today. So many people have
forgotten or either do not realize the destruction behind this racial slur; that it has simply become
another by word with a forgotten history. Ignorance is the state of being uneducated, unaware, or
uniformed. There is an old saying, What you don t know, won t hurt you, but I contend that what you
don t know can stifle you from moving ahead. There are so many young African Americans walking
in ignorance to the history of their race. For example, when I was growing up, my attentive parents
often took opportunities to teach me about and encouraged me not to sit on the back of a public
transportation bus. Their ideology came from the idea that there were many who fought for, were
imprisoned, and even died for my right to sit anywhere on a public bus. However, I consistently
watched as my African American friends immediately flocked to the back of a bus. I used to mentally
ask myself, Do they not know their history?

Comparing Tribunes And Julius Caesar
Tribunes and Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar is a great play written by William Shakespeare based on the real life historical
person, the Roman military tribune and dictator Julius Caesar. Caesar was the all powerful ruler
of Rome, who lived from July 12, 100 B.C., until his assassination, which took place March 15,
44 B.C. (Getlen). Shakespeare wrote the play Julius Casear 1600 years later, in 1599.
In reading the play, the reader often comes across words and phrases that are unknown, both
because of the era in which the events took place and because of the era in which the play was
written. One of the words discovered in Act I that an average American high school student
might not use in a typical conversation is tribune. To understand the play, the reader needs to
know this word and more about what life and the political world was like during the time Caesar
was alive. Then the student needs to learn what a tribune did and what his role in society was.
After that, the student can come to understand why the tribunes in the play, Marullus and Flavius,
were worried about Caesar.
According to Merriam Webster, a tribune is a Roman official under the monarchy and the
republic with the function of protecting the plebeian citizen from arbitrary action by the patrician
magistrates (Merriam Webster). Another definition explains a tribune as an officer or magistrate
chosen by the people to protect them from the oppression of the

The Colonization Of Africa Is A Significant Reason Why The...
The colonization of Africa is a significant reason why the educational system in Africa is split between
the countries it holds. Between the late 1800s and early 1900s Africa faced many military annexations
and diplomatic conquests. The impact of colonialism has influenced the conflicts in Liberia that
happened in the late 1900s. Liberia s civil wars held a responsibility for the devastation that is
implicated in its racial stance. Social Darwinism gave support for the superior rule over Africa. Liberia
s conflicts play a notable role in how westernization of education and race are viewed throughout
Africa. Liberia s education system emerged because of these conflicts. Colonizing Africa began
between the 1870s 1900. An important tragedy of colonization is the stripping of ethnicities. Modern
Africa is a product of European imperialism, not African heritage and tradition. Once the profits of the
slave trade collapsed, because of its abolition, European markets were looking for ways to keep a
steady way to make profits. Traditionally, Africa had been divided into groups by tribe, family, clan
and lineage. During the process of colonization these characteristics were social, economic and
political. Colonial state formation caused new values, institutions and operational principles to take
place. The African colonization required the taking of territories that were unknown to the political
world. The old views on who would run each group were diminished by the new rulers

alliances, pacts and treaties. Theses alliances are not the type of you would think of in the common
sense. Though these alliances were presumably and originally initiated with goal of both parties
mutually benefitting from winning or preventing a war, this would slowly change has the war

support but using the each other for their own agendas. This would be true for both the Allied Powers

Africa with an attempt to take Egypt from the British Empire. After a few encounters with Britain in

commences Operation Sonnenblume or Operation Sunflower, sending the Deustsche Afrikakorps
(DAK) commanded by Lt. Gen. Erwin Rommel to aid the Italians as a blocking force against the
British. Though the inclusion of Rommel and the DAK lead the Italians from defensive to offensive,
the outcome unfortunately leads to Italy s unsuccessful attempt at North Africa subjugating Italy under

length of a long board ranges from 32 to 60 inches. They are more suitable than skateboards for
cruising, as the larger wheels provide a smoother ride. These enable longboards to have varied
functions. Some of these are transportation, slaloming and free riding, riding downhill, dancing and

Puerto Rico Bourgeoisie Analysis
Before we Critique the bourgeoisie in Puerto Rico, we must first understand how they came to be.
How did a nation of enslaved people produce individuals who would rather subjugate themselves and
other for fringe benefits? In the present day, Puerto Rico is officially known as the Commonwealth of
Puerto Rico. But make no mistake about it Puerto Rico is a colony. A colony that has never
experienced freedom for the last 525 years. In 1493, Columbus landed on the island now known as

Man s Man Oktavian
What defines a man? A woman? A human? A lingering question that every individual has faced, trying
to uphold to a definition of what and who they should be. Los Angeles based artist Oktavian explores
this concept through vivid expressions of diverse emotions, honest depth, and a refreshing sense of
realism on his latest single Man s Man. The track s chopped and skewed heart of R B flourishes
against a bed of electronic beats which swim smoothly upon delivery of a soulful echo. Man s Man
recalls traits of Oktavian s father which cultivated him to the ideal of a real man ; acting as a constant
reminder of how Oktavian should be. The track s interchangeable line of standards resurfaces as a past
haunt through self talk: Never be afraid

Italian Migration To Australia
History of Migration to Australia Missionary work was conducted by Italian priests in Queensland,
Western Australia and Northern Territory during the nineteenth century. In the 1850s, during the gold
rush period, Italian communities were established in Victoria and Western Australia. When the gold
ran out, many Italians moved to work in other parts of Australia. An Italian community known as New
Italy was established in New South Wales by a group of migrants from northern Italy. This is now
known as Woodburn. Italian communities were also established by Italian fishermen along the south
coast of New South Wales, Port Pirie and Fremantle. Also during this time, Italian labourers that
arrived in Australia worked in the cane fields

Essay about Early American Literature
Early American Literature (1620 1820)
In the first half of the 17th century the New World found two groups of people
colonizing. The first group, the Puritans, had left England after years of exile due to
their lack of faith in the Church of England. With the reading and understanding of the
Bible almost completely laid in the hands of the preacher, the congregation was forced
to believe all the words that the preacher said. This all came to an end with John
Calvin.
His ideas were that God likes certain people better than others and those chosen
ones would get more land and more money. This idea took off with the Puritans as they
seeked religious freedom, a chance to start new churches ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All education was basedon religion and through that there was no questioning of God.
Along with this, their faith was based of that of the super natural world. They could
not see God, but saw him through thingslike a prosperous harvest or a winter blizzard,
both of these in reaction to actions taken by the Puritans.
With this lack of deductive reasoning the Puritans would find themselves thinking
about things done wrong if there was a life threatening winter blizzard or reflect the
things that were done right in the event of a bountiful harvest. In my eyes the Putians
were did not just leave England in search of religious freedom, they were casually asked
to leave the country and were used to colonize land that England was interested in.
Much like religious cults of today, they were against major religious beliefs of the
church and looked upon as radicals in their beliefs. Then, coming out, beheld a
space the flame consume my dwelling place. And when I could no longer look, I blest His
name that gave and took. A quote of this nature in modern day society would be
followed by the thought of radical nature in the person saying it. Things may have
changed as far as social acceptance goes, but I see the Puritans as outcasts of the
society in England.
The other group of

The Changing Role Of Flappers In The 1920 s
The 1920s, out with the old and in with the new. The Roaring Twenties was the decade of change and
prosperity where women wanted to be acknowledged for how they looked and dressed. Young women
also became more independent. This is how the famous term of a flapper came to be. Flappers are
young women and teenagers who dressed and acted differently with controversial behavior.
Flappers brought a dramatic change to society that made women realize how they should be treated. In
the past, women had to be submissive all the time and not voice their opinions. Back in the early
centuries, women were involved in domestic violence and their husbands and boyfriends would
control how they looked and acted. After World War I, many young men who fought did not return
home. This left women to explore the world and try new things. They realized that life was too short
to do anything but have fun. (The Rise of the Flapper). The 1920s was finally the breakthrough of
change women had been waiting for for centuries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Feminism, the advocacy of women s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality
to men, increased dramatically. They want to be treated equally as men are. Bruce Blivens, an
observer of flappers from the 1920s, stated, Women have highly resolved that they are just as good as
men, and intend to be treated so...they don t intend to be debarred from any profession or occupation
which they choose to enter (The Flapper, Feminism and Flappers). This statement means that women
want to be treated as good as men without the boundaries of gender

What Is Formative And Summative Assessment
Introduction
Assessment can be the engine of curriculum reform, or the principal impediment to its implementation
(Mary Barnes, 2000) is a thought which is of great debate in the Republic of Ireland today. Education
and curriculum are constantly evolving and often assessment gets left behind. The relationship
between student learning and an effective curriculum lies in the power of the assessment. One cannot
thrive without the other, and one cannot be entirely effective unless the other is equally as effective.
In this assignment I will explore the types of assessment, particularly formative and summative
assessment which are used worldwide in the classroom. As well as the history of assessment in
Ireland, the newest junior cycle programme and finally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research has shown that formative assessment is effective in all educational settings (Paul Black,
1998).One major difference between formative assessment and summative assessment is the way in
which formative assessment uses student involvement as an integral pillar. Without student
involvement in the assessment process, formative assessment is not reaching its full potential. Many
research papers have shown that student motivation is dramatically increased when students are
involved in both their own learning and in the learning of others (Pintrich de Groot, 1990).Teachers,
however, do not have a sit back role in formative assessment. They are still crucial to the proper use of
this assessment by ways of designing appropriate assessment tasks, identifying attainable learning
goals and outlining clear criteria for student success. One key factor in formative assessment is the
return of feedback to students. Many studies have shown that substantial learning gains are the
outcome of an effective and frequent feedback process from teacher to student (Wiliam,

Quinceaneras Analysis
Quinceaneras and the Heterosexual Imaginary The dream come true narrative that surrounds
quinceaneras is extremely similar to the way weddings and marriage are framed. In Ingraham s White
Weddings, she discusses how weddings are framed as the most important moment in a woman s life,
and how common it is for young girls to dream of their wedding days from the moment they can walk
and talk. A large part of Ingraham s work relies on the relationship between weddings and the
heterosexual imaginary. As she writes, the heterosexual imaginary relies on romantic and sacred
notions of heterosexuality in order to create and maintain the illusion of wellbeing (Ingraham pp. 26).

Oftentimes, quinceaneras are the subject of reality TV shows such as MTV s Quiero Mis Quinces or
TLC s Sweet 15: Quinceañera. Shows like these generally follow the most hectic parts of the planning
process and thrive on the over dramatization of the situation. Quiero Mis Quinces (first aired in 2009)
is described as providing the viewer with a behind the scenes peak at the lavish affairs as well as the
accompanying squabbles with jealous siblings, stressed out parents and school rivals. The TLC show
Sweet 15: Quinceañera is a more recent show, having first aired in 2016, however it still emphasizes a
similar narrative. Reality TV often portrays the teenage girls on its shows as crazier than the average
person, essentially as a tactic to turn people into entertainment rather than complex individuals. This
narrative is problematic especially when it relies on the stereotype of the crazy woman of color, or the
racist narrative that Latina woman are fiery or

The Decline Of Reading In The US
People today have lost interest in reading. Otis Kramer says in The Decline of Reading in the U.S.
Damages Our Intellectual Life, For the first time in modern history, less than half of the adult
population now reads literature. When children are not taught to enjoy reading they carry that through
life which causes problems that are hard to fix later in life. There is a loss of interest in reading
because of schools, parents and technology. This can cause problems with intellect and mental states.
Parents can solve this, if they teach their children to enjoy reading early on. The lack of interest in
reading is due to many things, but tends to begin with young children. Schools and parents do not
encourage their children to read for fun (Charleston). Parents do so because they were not taught to
enjoy reading, or they do not have time. Schools, on the other hand, create an environment where
reading becomes more of a chore than a fun activity (Denby). Schools do try to teach kids to enjoy
reading, teachers will set times or page numbers for their students to read. A study on this method has
shown that when told to only read a set amount of time or pages, children will only read the amount
required by the teachers. The things that children read are normally not something they chose. This
decision creates a hatred for reading in children, even if they loved to read before. In many case, such
as assignments make the students hate the book they have just read, no matter how

Andrew Rickley Analysis
Careless What separate s a person from their money is when they do not know how to stop spending,
but what keeps a person with money is when they know how to save. The different stories that I read I
learned that most people that come into a large amount of money do not know how to stop spending.
Saving money played an important role in many people s life that won the lottery, well the ones that
didn t end with them going broke after they won the lottery. Being able to buy a nice home, car, and
treat yourself to the finer things in life is cool. When you don t know when to stop that is when you

For example, when you re playing and thinking about the things that you will be able to buy with your
millions of dollars that you will win, such as that trip that you have been planning your whole life.
Even last week when my class and I decided to play the lottery; I was thinking about several many
things that I will be able to buy with my millions. On the other hand, most people do not think about
the money that they are spending on the tickets that they are buying. The little dollar that they are
spending starts to add up against them; Think about the other things that you would be able to do with
that dollar such as starting a savings account. Today, most people do not know the importance of
saving money, it seems like the meaning of saving money has been lost. When I was growing up I
always was taught to save money and not to spend your hard earned money on frivolous things. I was
taught to put half away because you would never know when you will need some extra cash.
Some people might say that, it s okay to spend your money on things that you always wanted. We all
would want to have that big house or that dream car that we always dreamed about, but that is when
you must draw the line. Going from having your dream car to having to take the bus is the outcome of
being carless with your money. No one would want to go back down that road; well I know I wouldn t

  • 2. Dow Chemical Company I decided to construct my essay on Dow Chemicals (DC) Company after reading an article in Business Week. Dow Chemical appears to be developing an aggressive market strategy that aligns with our class topics, and that I have found very interesting. Dow Chemical (DC) company, over the last seven years has built their strategy around and focused on their niche , which is core chemicals amp; plastics manufacturing operations, while simultaneously reducing infrastructure debt, expanding its market share, and apparently building new strategic alliances. According to Dow Chemical CEO William Stavropoulos, The mission and goals of Dow Chemical company is to be a world leader in chemical and plastics manufacturing by developing new customer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was achieved by reducing the workforce by 30 percent and eliminating seven layers of management. The current management structure contains only five people between the most junior employee and the Chief Executive Officer. Dow Chemical appears to have embraced a Global Strategy, which is increasing profitability by reaping the cost reductions that come from experience curves and location economies and by expanding its market share outside of its home country. This business savvy type of management approach seeks to penetrate a huge market availability, which as global markets develop will gradually combine into just one market. In developing their mission goals and corporate strategy, Dow Chemical has obviously considered both External and Internal stakeholders and how strategic maneuvers would impact their ultimate goals. Examples of stakeholder impacts are: External Stakeholders: Customers: Provide the core of revenue, especially in untapped markets overseas. Suppliers: Provide input w/significant savings through combined purchasing with Union Carbide Company and 13 other large companies. Governments: Significant reduced manufacturing restrictions and potential incentives to conduct business in foreign countries. Unions: Many foreign countries are not unionized, which could be a production cost incentive. Internal Stakeholders: Stockholders: Maximizing their Return On Investment by expanding operations and gaining access to difficult markets. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Management Theories In Classroom Management 2.4 Behaviour management theories While classroom management theory is constantly evolving. There are many types of behaviour management and discipline strategies for the classroom. Some of the theories are directly applicable and some theories can use with our own personal mix. Understanding these theories can help educators define their own classroom management methods and make decisions about how to best approach interactions with students (Hussung, 2016). 2.4.1 The Assertive Discipline Model This theory, proposed by Lee Canter (1976), suggests that students positive behaviours should be recognized and encouraged. As per his theory, teachers should inform students about expectations they have as well as rules they have set. Once they inform students, they will closely monitor who follow these guidelines. According to his theory, teachers should be entrusted with the right to teach without any intervention, while students should learn without any interruption (Edu excellence organisation, 2016). Most important thing in this model is teacher always reinforced positive more than negative. However, if the student violates the rules persistently, then he or she is punished. This include five steps namely; warning the student, giving 10 minute time out in isolation, giving the student a 15 minute time out in isolation, calling the student s parents and finally, sending the student to the principal s office. However, this approach is not practicable for the teenagers. Because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stacey Mermigos PSY 1270 Controversies in Child Psychopathology October 27, 2015 The Differences between Normative and Pathological Child Behavior: Oppositional Defiant Disorder DEFINING OPPOSITIONAL DEFIANT DISORDER Children diagnosed with oppositional defiant disorder, ODD, are characterized as displaying symptoms of age inappropriate recurrent pattern of stubborn, hostile, disobedient, and defiant disorders , usually appearing prior to the child entering his eighth year of age (Mash Wolfe, 2013). The DSM also lists impulse control disorders, substance abuse disorders, and anxiety and mood disorders as comorbid disorders that children with ODD have a considerable risk of developing. However, the diagnosis of oppositional defiant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The study compared rates of symptoms of oppositional defiant disorder between children referred to behavior health clinics, and children who had not been referred. Symptoms studied included losing temper, defying adult s requests, argues with adults, purposely annoys others, blames others, easily annoyed, angry and resentful, and spiteful and vindictive (Keenan Wakschlag, 2004). Overall, the study found that rates of oppositional defiant disorder symptoms were significantly higher in referred than non referred preschoolers (Keenan Wakschlag, 2004). In other words, while only 4 8% of children not believed to have oppositional defiant disorder exhibited the symptoms in question, a significant amount of children diagnosed with oppositional defiant disorder, ranging from 30 73%, did exhibit the symptoms. These numbers are strong evidence supporting the theory that oppositional defiant disorder is, in face, a legitimate psychological disorder, and is not merely bad behavior. COMORBIDITY Oppositional defiant disorder, apart from being characterized by behaviors more severe than those exhibited by children not diagnosed, is also correlated to an increased risk in several other disorders. These disorders include impulse control disorders, substance abuse disorders, and mood and anxiety disorders. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First it taught me about the complexity of elementary mathematics and not to underestimate it. Secondly, it taught me about the consequences becoming overly dependent on mathematical aids (leading to doing and not understanding). Thirdly, it taught me the reasons behind why we do certain mathematical procedures. Lastly it gave me tips for future teaching and parenting. Learning about the long and tiresome process of transforming ordinary fractions into decimal fractions has made me realize how much I had taken for granted using calculator for the past decade. There are downsides to relying more on the calculator than relying on old fashioned mind. Patterns as Aids becomes a problem when a student follows rules without understanding and calculates large numbers mentally using tricks but fails to understand the purpose of the processes or steps. Therefore it is better to understand less but thoroughly, than to be an expert in memorizing tricks and rules without any understanding. • 7. Pros And Cons Of Abolishing Standardized Tests Stolz 1 Jennie Stolz DC English Mrs. Colbert 3 November 2017 Abolishing Standardized Tests Standardized tests determine such a drastic amount of one s future. Not only do students fail standardized tests, but they also lack the knowledge that one expects a child to learn in their current grade. In general, teachers focus on preparing students for tests and not truly teaching the material. This forces the question of whether or not standardized tests measure what students have learned or their test taking skills. Many students have terrible test taking skills, which results in substantially low scores. This does not result from lack of knowledge of the material, but rather because they do not understand how to effectively take and finish tests. Students deserve a proper education, therefore require a reliable educator. The majority of these failures result in lower graduation rates, and the percent of workforce drastically drops. Standardized tests such as the American College Test, the ACT, Scholastic Aptitude Test, the SAT, and core state tests should not remain a deciding factor for passing a grade level or getting accepted into a certain college. One reason includes students inability to afford needed test preparation. Misevaluating students knowledge and skills when using structured tests continues to exemplify the major flaws in today s education system. Therefore, standardized testing should not exist. ... • 10. The Seven Sins Of Memory The seven sins of memory are transience, absentmindedness, blocking, memory misattribution, suggestibility, bias, and persistence. These are all considered failures of memory. Daniel Schacter, who was the chair of Harvard University s psychology department, taught these rules. The first being, Transience, transience is having an experience pass through our memory quickly. This is related to short term memory because it not last long nor stick with us. For example, having a short and meaningless conversation with acquaintance will usually not stay with us for a long time. The next sin is Absentmindedness. Absentmindedness is a lack of attention given, which causes the memory to fail. This can come from attempting to multi task or having ADD or ADHD. These cause people to become distracted while something else is going on. Prospective memory is a major key in absentmindedness because you are thinking about the past or future and not focusing on the present. Blocking is another one of the seven sins which most people experience in their life and it is not as severe. Blocking is the inability to remember information when are trying to recall it. Most people refer to this as a Tip of the Tongue Experience . The tip of the tongue experience is an expression used when a memory cannot be remembered, but you are very close to doing so. • 11. Demand For A Product Or Service Essay Demand for a product or service can be defined as the amount of a particular economic good or service that a consumer or group of consumers will want to purchase at a given price over a specific period of time. The demand is usually downward sloping, since consumers will want to buy more as the price decreases. Demand for a good or service is determined by different factors other than price, such as the price of substitute goods and complementary goods. In extreme cases, demand may be completely unrelated to price, or nearly infinite at a given price (in the case of the tobacco industry) (Beardshaw, 1991). According to Philp, Dan and Galt (2009) it could be deduced that demand relative to the tobacco industry is caused by a number of aspects in which the key driver is the price of the cigarettes. Newport menthol 100s average price for a pack is $4.70 and a carton cost around $42.00. This price is relative to it s competitor Marlboro menthol red cigarettes, which is the number one cigarette of all time. Marlboro menthol red average price for a pack is $4.91 and a carton cost around $44.00. The price of Newports is set because it s a brand loyalty product. For example, in the clothes market, individuals would think of what Calvin Klein s would cost. If Parada sell 30% cheaper, then they would consider paying a much lower price. • 14. Comparing Tribunes And Julius Caesar Tribunes and Julius Caesar Julius Caesar is a great play written by William Shakespeare based on the real life historical person, the Roman military tribune and dictator Julius Caesar. Caesar was the all powerful ruler of Rome, who lived from July 12, 100 B.C., until his assassination, which took place March 15, 44 B.C. (Getlen). Shakespeare wrote the play Julius Casear 1600 years later, in 1599. In reading the play, the reader often comes across words and phrases that are unknown, both because of the era in which the events took place and because of the era in which the play was written. One of the words discovered in Act I that an average American high school student might not use in a typical conversation is tribune. To understand the play, the reader needs to know this word and more about what life and the political world was like during the time Caesar was alive. Then the student needs to learn what a tribune did and what his role in society was. After that, the student can come to understand why the tribunes in the play, Marullus and Flavius, were worried about Caesar. According to Merriam Webster, a tribune is a Roman official under the monarchy and the republic with the function of protecting the plebeian citizen from arbitrary action by the patrician magistrates (Merriam Webster). Another definition explains a tribune as an officer or magistrate chosen by the people to protect them from the oppression of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Colonization Of Africa Is A Significant Reason Why The... The colonization of Africa is a significant reason why the educational system in Africa is split between the countries it holds. Between the late 1800s and early 1900s Africa faced many military annexations and diplomatic conquests. The impact of colonialism has influenced the conflicts in Liberia that happened in the late 1900s. Liberia s civil wars held a responsibility for the devastation that is implicated in its racial stance. Social Darwinism gave support for the superior rule over Africa. Liberia s conflicts play a notable role in how westernization of education and race are viewed throughout Africa. Liberia s education system emerged because of these conflicts. Colonizing Africa began between the 1870s 1900. An important tragedy of colonization is the stripping of ethnicities. Modern Africa is a product of European imperialism, not African heritage and tradition. Once the profits of the slave trade collapsed, because of its abolition, European markets were looking for ways to keep a steady way to make profits. Traditionally, Africa had been divided into groups by tribe, family, clan and lineage. During the process of colonization these characteristics were social, economic and political. Colonial state formation caused new values, institutions and operational principles to take place. The African colonization required the taking of territories that were unknown to the political world. The old views on who would run each group were diminished by the new rulers ... With the reading and understanding of the Bible almost completely laid in the hands of the preacher, the congregation was forced to believe all the words that the preacher said. This is how the famous term of a flapper came to be. Flappers are young women and teenagers who dressed and acted differently with controversial behavior. What Is Formative And Summative Assessment Introduction Assessment can be the engine of curriculum reform, or the principal impediment to its implementation (Mary Barnes, 2000) is a thought which is of great debate in the Republic of Ireland today. Education and curriculum are constantly evolving and often assessment gets left behind. The relationship between student learning and an effective curriculum lies in the power of the assessment. One cannot thrive without the other, and one cannot be entirely effective unless the other is equally as effective. Many research papers have shown that student motivation is dramatically increased when students are involved in both their own learning and in the learning of others (Pintrich de Groot, 1990).Teachers, however, do not have a sit back role in formative assessment. They are still crucial to the proper use of this assessment by ways of designing appropriate assessment tasks, identifying attainable learning goals and outlining clear criteria for student success. One key factor in formative assessment is the return of feedback to students. Otis Kramer says in The Decline of Reading in the U.S. Damages Our Intellectual Life, For the first time in modern history, less than half of the adult population now reads literature. When children are not taught to enjoy reading they carry that through life which causes problems that are hard to fix later in life. There is a loss of interest in reading because of schools, parents and technology. This can cause problems with intellect and mental states. Parents can solve this, if they teach their children to enjoy reading early on. The lack of interest in reading is due to many things, but tends to begin with young children. Schools and parents do not encourage their children to read for fun (Charleston). Parents do so because they were not taught to enjoy reading, or they do not have time. Schools, on the other hand, create an environment where reading becomes more of a chore than a fun activity (Denby). Schools do try to teach kids to enjoy reading, teachers will set times or page numbers for their students to read. A study on this method has shown that when told to only read a set amount of time or pages, children will only read the amount required by the teachers.
