Renal Cell Carcinoma Of The Kidney Essay
The most common genitourinary cancers are, renal cell carcinoma of the kidney, transitional cell
carcinoma of the bladder, and adenocarcinoma of the prostat.
1 Renal cell carcinoma, the most common cancer of the kidney, accounts for approximately 90%
of all renal malignancies. About 65,000 cases of renal cell carcinoma are diagnosed each year in
the U.S. Despite advances in diagnosis, especially improved imaging techniques and the incidental
diagnosis of many tumors with imaging tests for unrelated complaints, about 20 30% of all patients
are diagnosed with metastatic disease. In addition, another 20% of patients undergoing
nephrectomy will have a relapse and develop metastatic RCC during follow up.
For patients with (m RCC), the prognosis is extremely poor, which makes the occurrence of (m
RCC) a serious problem for oncologic health care around the world.
The American Cancer Society s most recent estimates for kidney cancer in the United
States are for 2016:
About 62,700 new cases (39,650 in men and 23,050 in women) will occur.
About 14,240 people (9,240 men and 5,000 women) will die from this disease.
These numbers include all types of kidney and renal pelvis cancers.
Kidney cancer is among the 10 most common cancers in both men and women. Overall, the
lifetime risk for developing kidney cancer is about 1 in 63 (1.6%). This risk is higher in men than
in women.
For reasons that are not totally clear, the rate of new kidney cancers has been rising since

Why Preston High School Should Not Wear Uniforms
Preston High School should not adhere to a school dress code because it limits self expression,
high initial cost and can be very uncomfortable. Yes, some people say that school uniforms are
better so that you don t have to worry about students wearing inappropriate clothing to school but,
wearing the uniformsdoesn t allow the students to show their true selves. People may say
uniforms are or can be comfortable but, honestly I don t see how wearing that same exact clothes
everyday or each week can be comfortable. I feel like it would be annoying and uncomfortable
looking the exact same every day. You may be able to do your hair different and girls can do their
make up but, they would still look that same no matter what. Everyone wants to show their true...

No parent wants to see their kid not happy or fail a class due to not being able to pay attention
because the clothing they are wearing is bothering them. They won t be able to show their true self
which will make them unhappy and they can lose concentration. Our school doesn t have the
money to afford uniforms for all the students. Getting uniforms do not solve any problems and
doesn t do any good. Uniforms will just make students unhappy and honestly just be pointless. It
will not stop people from fight over stupid stuff or stop them from spreading rumors to cause
drama. Uniforms do not solve any of the bigger issues. The school would have to raise a lot
money somehow if they wanted uniforms because there are a lot students in our school and we
just don t have the money for that. School uniforms would make all kids feel the same by wearing
the same clothes as everyone else and not being able to express themselves. This is why I think
students at Preston High should not have to wear school

Information Processing And The Human Mind
Information processing theories emphasizes on the way people focus on environmental events,
translate information to be learned and find a way to relate the information to the knowledge in the
short term memory and then store the knowledge in the long term memory; to retrieve it when need
be. The way we process information such as problem solving and critical thinking with such
efficiency, it is seen that we perform better than highly sophisticated machines. Even thou the
human mind is so incredibly remarkable, researchers didn t develop systematic models of memory,
cognition, and thinking until the 20th century. In the 1950s, the only pronounced research model
was the information processingmodel (IPM). Information processing is not the name of a single
theory; it is a generic name applied to theoretical perspectives dealing with the sequence and
execution of cognitive events (Sch.164). Because of these multiple theory perspectives, information
processing is short of a clear identity. Most of the researcher on information processing was done in
a lab where they studied eye movements, recognition and recall times, attention to stimuli, and
interference in perceptionand memory. The researchers are still trying to apply educational settings
that involve the basics; math, reading, and science.
Theorists believe that learning starts to form with relations between the stimuli and responses,
which is one of the characteristics in behaviorism. The only reason theorists don t

Disadvantages Of Team Training
Team Training
Team building and team training is quite an effective way of keeping the morale, of team
members, up and their individual capabilities, in parallel to the objectives of a whole team. Being
a part of the business that values the team building the same as it does in the case of gathering new
customers, is really something which only the luckier ones get. Believe us! There are many team
building methods that a brand can use for increasing the team bonding and thus leading to a
productivity level, even higher than before. But of all the methods, team training is the most
effective one. In this method, the performance of the individuals, who are working towards a
common goal, is coordinated in such a way that one member s capabilities supports the other
member.
Team training strategies It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These goals and objectives change as the team grows in different stages, i.e. forming stage,
storming stage, and norming stage. Each stage features its own reasoning, advantages, and
disadvantages. For example, the forming stage deals with binding the group, so that the group
members get to know each other and begin to have a sense of what an actual team looks like. It
also focuses on aligning the individual purposes so that they reinforce each other s goals as if they
have shared targets. Moreover, the roles of the leader are also established here.
The storming stage takes the objectives of the forming stage to a level above while adding more to
it. This stage ensures that all the members are enjoying good working relationships with each other
and are capable of sharing thoughts without any difficulty. This leads to nurturing the shared
problem solving skills and assists in the generation of new ideas. In this stage and from here on,
short term objectives and milestones are used to get a clear picture of how the team is performing

Over Indulgence In Materialistic Views In The Veldt By Ray...
Many people would argue that society has become oblivious to the side effects of indulging in
materialistic objects. Although Ray Bradbury wrote the story The Veldt over 50 years ago, he
discusses this timeless issue of people caring more for materialistic objects than each other. In
Bradbury s short story The Veldt , the children in the family, Wendy and Peter, have relied on the
technological objects they have too much, and will do anything to keep them despite being told no
by their parents, George and Lydia. Through the use of imagery, motifs and foreshadowing Ray
Bradbury proves that over indulgence in materialistic views can have grave consequences. Ray
Bradbury uses foreshadowing to prove that over indulgence in materialistic views can have grave
consequences. For example on page 3, Bradbury hints that the children will do something bad
because he writes, When I punished him a month ago by locking the nursery... the tantrum he threw
(Bradbury 3). The reader continues to grow worried about Peter and Wendy s behavior when
there are screams coming from the nursery. Therefore, Bradbury establishes that the children are
overly connected to their tech not their own parents. That is why it is not surprising to the reader
when the kids lock their parents in the nursery to get them killed. This is shows foreshadowing
works in proving that over indulgence in materialistic views can have grave consequences by
showing that in this perfect utopia, this is the first that the reader has heard anything about a
kerfuffle between the children and the parents. Another reason why, is the parents are talking
about turning the whole house off for a month which is a lot longer than a few hours. In
conclusion Bradbury uses the dark hints of the parent s demise to prove that over indulgence in
materialistic views can have grave consequences, by showing that when people become too
reliable on the things that they can hold, and as soon as they are taken away, we have no idea
what to do without them. Ray Bradbury uses motifs to prove that over indulgence in materialistic
views can have grave consequences. For example on page 5 George, the father, is walking down
the hall and hears a scream coming from the nursery. The sound

Animal Testing Is Necessary To Human Life
Animal Testing is Necessary to Human Life
Why do the people like to go to the cirque where the animals mistreated in order to entertain them
just for a short period of time, or going to the zoo where animals are isolated from their natural
habitat, but then go out and protest about the feeling and how the animals are treated in laboratories.
These animal lovers use words like abuse , inhumanity and cruelty to describe how scientists treat
animals in the experimental area, not accepting the reality of how necessary animal testing is for
human health. Often, people just see the atrocious part of this process; they do not see how helpful
it is for health. When we are sick, we just go to the pharmacy looking for the medicine that could ...

This is a massive one in today s era of modern technology: emails, instant messaging, status
updates, sms etc. When you are in the middle of an important task and you get interrupted or
distracted, it can take you up to 20 minutes to get back into the zone. If this happens 3 times in a

lost productivity, just from being interrupted. Imagine what you could do if you had a whole extra
day every fortnight. Now you know how.

Benefits Of Telecommuting At The Industrial Revolution Essay
Prior to the industrial revolution, working from home was a practice that had been around for years
before the phenomenon of telecommuting was created. Telecommuting, a term coined by Jack
Nilles (Venkatraman, 1994), describes someone who works from home or a telecommuting site
through the use of the Internet and other forms of technology. Mirroring the past, many people
telework today because it is required by their occupation or simply because it is convenient.
Whatever the reason may be, the effects of telework as a prominent practice permit it to be
considered a norm in our society. With telecommutingbecoming a fast growing ubiquitous
phenomenon, it should be considered the norm for suitable occupations (e.g. sales representative,
customer service representative, and software developer) because of the benefits it affords the
employee/individual, the employer/organization, and society.
Benefits of Telecommuting towards the Employee/Individual
Telecommuting should be the new normal because of the benefits such as autonomy, increased
productivity, and savings in time and expenses it affords the employee/individual. A major aspect
of telecommuting is that it provides individuals with autonomy or independence over their craft.
The absence of a person of authority directly monitoring an employee gives the employee the sense
of control. With this sense of autonomy placed on an individual, they are expected to discipline
themselves and dictate their work schedule at home in the

Dr Moreau Duality Of Man
The duality of man has had many definitions over the years, and in this case the most simplistic is
the best option. The idea of man having two sides to them, not necessarily just physical sides, but
also mental; both happen to be in their nature. In The Island of Dr. Moreau, many conflicting
character traits are strong indicators of the duality of man, specifically how humanity and
inhumanity are intertwined.
What is it that makes someone inhuman rather than human? We humans, have evolved into the
beings that we are today, how we look, how we think, and how we act, along with our desires; are
all parts of what makes us human. When something is described as inhuman, it is usually lacking
those qualities. Human and inhuman in relation to the novel, are shown through Moreau s attempts
to erase the divide between animal and man. Creating man from animals is Moreau s way of having
his favorite version of humans at the forefront. The beasts, would be able to speak and act like
humans without some of the parts that make a human, human their desires and mental capacity are
very limited to the necessities. He believes, that experimenting on the animals and having them be
generally human, without any of their basic animal instincts, will in fact solidify them as man.

Liberia Civil War Research Paper
Causes of Liberian Civil War
Have you ever been asked if you want long sleeves or short sleeves? If you were asked this, you
thought about shirts. In Liberia during the civil war, if the rebels caught you and asked this
question, they meant do you want your arms cut off at the shoulder or wrist. Liberia is located along
the Atlantic Coast of West Africa and its capital is Monrovia (Vinck, Pham, Kreutzer, 8). There
are about 4 million people and 17 major ethnic groups (9). Liberia s civil war between 1989 and
2003 left hundreds of thousands dead and many more affected by the extreme violence that ravaged
the country (3). There are several fundamental causes for this devastating civil war and three of
them are: the socio economic policies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the 1970 s when educated indigenous Liberians protested the raise in rice prices, the Tolbert
government violently put down the protest by killing 40 students and wounding 400 (59). This
set the stage for a group called The People s Revolutionary Council led by Samuel Doe to lead a
coup on April 12, 1980 that took over the government killing President Tolbert and many others
(61). Doe became a dictator who put his ethnic Krahn tribe in charge of everything and took all
the natural resources for his own profit (62). Any ethnic groups not of the Krahn tribe were
persecuted and many were killed (63). Due to the atrocities suffered under Doe s dictatorship,
different ethnic groups formed rebel organizations to try to defeat Doe. Charles Taylor led an
invasion into Liberia with the backing of the Gola and Mano tribes (Global Security, 2). The Gio
tribe under Prince Johnson formed its own rebel force (2). This began a bloody three way war.
Although the reason given for the civil war was to provide different ethnic groups with the right to
participate in the government, one of the factors that drove the warlords was the desire to exploit

Essay about Lewis Carroll s Alice In Wonderland
Lewis Carroll s Alice In Wonderland
So she sat on, with closed eyes, and half believed herself in Wonderland, though she knew she
had but to open them again, and all would change to dull reality . . . (Carroll 119). Wonderland: a
place where everything is different and the imagination is free to roam wild. A place where it
does not matter how big a person is, but the intellect that is in a person. Existing in the dreams of
children everywhere, wonderland is a place of escape, causing a person to think in new, different
ways: a place like no other. Through his novel, Alice s Adventure s in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll
captures and writes about a little girl s adventures through her own dreamland. Upon waking up and
telling her sister ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, her surroundings and its inhabitants are what are different. After following a white rabbit
down a dark, never ending hole, she sees a beautiful garden full of distinguished colored flowers
unlike anything she has ever seen before. With the colors of her imagination, Alice longs to
wander about among those beds of bright flowers and those cool fountains (Carroll 19).
However, upon waking up she comes back to reality with the normalcy of colors and humans.
No more is she surrounded by the impossibilities of a talking chesire cat or the abnormalities of a
crazed tea party in which a door mouse lives in a tea kettle. She is once again back to the reality
where she must act appropriately and do schoolwork. She no longer has the ability to say
whatever comes to mind and argue with whoever says something of which she disagrees. She must
retain her societal role and be cautious and courteous at all times and respect her elders unlike how
she disrespected the Queen of Hearts. Wonderland is a place of the imagination where anything is
possible.
As a person grows older he loses a part of his childhood. One of those parts included is his ability
to dream and imagine enchantments such as wonderland. When Alice told her sister of her dream
of wonderland, it made the sister reflect on her own imagination. She could see herself in
wonderland as the whole place around her became alive with the strange creatures of her little
sister s dreams (Carroll

Thus, the fear of lost control and power of the male hegemonic dominance, women have been

disconcerting thing is that women for centuries have been convincing themselves of that diabolical

patriarchal authority that governs the world. However, today women are not allowed to shine in all

Therefore, in receiving the Savior s mission, Peter s ego is enhanced. For that reason, Peter sees in
Mary Magdalene his adversary. The fact is that what Jesusis doing is giving Peter his own cure.
Peter is challenged by Jesus on three grounds. First, in a theological ground because he has the
divine responsibility to continuing with the Savior s teaching about the Kingdom of God.
Second, in a philosophical ground because it is not only repeat a story, but also reasoning about
its meaning. Third, his personal ground because he has to face his internal enemies of jealousy,
and the insecurity of facing the sense and sensibility of a woman. The humble the heart of a man
is, the closest to God. This is the case of Mary Magdalene in this specific gospel. This is exactly
one of the Savior s teachings, to transform this kind of mentality while He was among them. The
Savior starts with his own disciples. The Savior knows that this metamorphosis will take some time
to develop in full bloom. Because HE knows it is a long journey, HE gives them two important
commandments: You shall lovethe Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all
your mind, and with all your strength. You shall love your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12: 30 31).

Starting in 468 BCE during the Zhou dynasty, the Grand Canal took about 6 million peasants about
a millennium to build. The construction of this canal finally finished in 610 CE under Emperor
Yangdi of the Sui dynasty. Changing China s staple from millet and wheat to rice was the main
reason of the building of the canal, but it also helped Chinese economy by connecting the more
productive southern China to the capitals in northern china. It increased interdependence between
the north and the south. One section of the Grand Canal was also intended to supply Chinese
armies which led to better defense and administration in China. Also, in building the canal, officials
were required to work together, so the Grand Canal brought better authority and unity to political
officials. The downside of this canal, though, was the number of peasants killed in constructing it.
Over half of the 6 million peasants employed to build the canal died in building it, which was a
reason the Sui dynasty fell. The great Grand Canal set the foundation for the great Tang dynasty.

Race Ethnicity And Gender In The Lowell Factory
While reading the assigned article, I was immediately interested since I am currently learning
about the foundation of women s rights in History. Race ethnicity and gender shaped the
workforce in the early textile mills by paying women half of what they pay males for the same
job. This shows the difference between a primary labor market and a secondary labor market;
The primary market being which men get paid higher wages than those of women. Race also
had an impact on the workforce by immigrants offering to work for such low wages as women
would, sometimes being rejected from any job at all. Women in the Lowell Factory were so
closely supervised because women women who were closely supervised were not able to
organize. Also, they were supervised since that idea appealed to many parents who would send
their daughters to the mills. Some parents would send their daughters to the mills because they
could barely provide for their children. Not many jobs were for women at the time, especially those

virtue that was found in most if not all of the men who fought for our country in Vietnam. This

and ignorance shown towards those of different backgrounds and ethnicities. Although those who

The Pros And Cons Of The Madrid Agreement
bers of the Madrid Agreement. Secondly, besides the Paris Convention and Madrid System, there is
also a Trademark Law Treaty (TLT) that has been adopted in Geneva on October 27, 1994, that was
meant to advice contracting States not to burden the trade mark applicants or proprietors with
requirements over and above those laid down in the Treaty. The requirements can be in the form of
administrative requirements of the national offices of contracting parties by establishing standards
for registration, changes after registration and the renewal of trademarks, in an attempt to simplify
and harmonize procedures. In fact, the TLT had specified that other than cases of surrender of

Unfortunately, there are huge disparities of the national laws on trade marks of the Member States
which resulted in an adverse impact on the internal market. Therefore, the creation on a unitary
trade mark system in the Community was a logical development in the creation of a Common
Market . One of the earliest legislative in EU is The First Council Directive 89/104/EEC
(hereinafter Harmonisation Directive). The main objective if this legislation was to minimise the
differences between the national trade mark systems. These differences present barriers to trade
and affect free movement of goods and services, thereby hindering the development of a single
market. The Harmonisation Directive does not disturb the policies on procedure and is restricted to
guidelines on substance. Even though the Harmonisation Directive which covers a wide range of
issues and is hailed by the harmonization enthusiasts, the part such as the national trade mark office
s ex officio managing of grounds for refusal are still absent and not settled by the Directive.
Therefore, in terms of single market requirements, the directive s target of harmonization could still
not be described as being totally in conformity with the single market

The Transcendentalist Value Of Education
We spend about seven hours at school every day for five days every week for nine months out of
the year. It becomes our second home, and it is supposed to teach us they ways of the world and
how to survive in it. However, just like everything valuable, it comes at a price, which often is in the
form of a student s health, sanity, and originality. Given that Thoreau, Emerson, and other
transcendentalists value individualism and freedom of thought as essential aspects of a human
being s life, they would despise the educationsystem of today, as it forces students to conform and
restrain their minds in order to be successful.
Standardized tests violate the transcendentalist principles of individuality and dismantling rule of

Most schools have a set list of courses with a strict curriculum to follow throughout the year,
allowing students to choose their courses, but within the limitations of what the school offers and

ideas the way we hunt for huckleberries in the woods, as described in Thoreau s Night in Jail by
Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee (Lawrence and Lee 18). Thoreau s ideal learning method is
much more free and natural than that of today. He would be opposed to the AP system and lecture
based classes that are strictly based on memorization. Thoreau would prefer alternative techniques
such as Socratic Dialogues or Harkness Discussions that allow students to learn from themselves
and each other through discussion. Emerson agrees with Thoreau on this, proclaiming that [t]he
intellect is vagabond, and the universal system of education fosters restlessness (Emerson 25). The
use of the vagabond metaphor and the word restless imply that Emerson believes that students are
much more intelligent than schools give them credit for. Schools undervalue students by forcing
them into classes that fail to interest them instead of letting them take the more stimulating path of
self discovery, which would benefit them more over the course of a

Electronic Cheques Are Electronic Copies Of A Regular...
Electronic cheques are electronic copies of a regular cheque. You are only able to pay with an
electronic cheque by sending an e mail of it to pay for the item you want. Electronic cheques are
not the most common method of payment for customers as they are often sent to businesses and
companies although they are able to be sent from person to person through a site such as eBay.
Electronic cheques are also signed off digitally by the person/business receiving the chequeto
confirm the receiving of the cheque.
Electronic cheques allow users of e commerce to pay with an electronic cheque, as an alternative
payment option rather than using a credit or debit card to purchase goods online. Electronic
cheques are more common in the US than in the UK, where credit and debit cards are used by the
masses. Electronic cheques give business, universities, private companies and personal online
sellers the ability to let their customer make an online payment by e mailing their cheque to the
business/person so they have their payment for their product. E commerce has allowed for this
new method of payment that has never been used previously by the public and now adds a new
type of convenient payment method for non credit/debit card users and customers who prefer not to
give their bank details to PayPal or another online banking account.
Electronic cheques however have their negatives, such as the time in which it takes for the
transaction to take place. It can take up to a couple of days

Her secret to staying beautiful? She says she feels her best when she s healthy and strong. She

Topic: Response and Social Policy paper on Iatrogenic Government The response to drug use in
America and in some countries around the world seems to have an interesting history. As the
author Daniel Patrick Moynihan describes the unintended consequences society faces when
government does not deal effectively with issues of drugs in society. He provided several
references that shows the historical and present connections to government interrelations and how
many of these decisions have some form of negative impact and at times causes social
breakdown. His historical reference to drug uses, medicinal properties as well as technology role

what we did not know and would need to learn (pg. 353). The author s reference to technology is
relevant but I will address the issue of technology later on as I respond to his summary. The
history of drug use represents lessons that were long been seen but obviously overlooked by
doctors as well as pharmaceutical companies. The earlier efforts by government to regulate drug
use or alcohol consumption began with some regulations on Jamaican rum. Since distilled liquor
was used in social events, the government approaches in regulating the trafficking of the distilled
liquor was by levying heavy fines on the general tariff bill. The cost of importing Jamaican rum
was costlier than distilled liquor here in America. Again, at the time, the government was mostly
dealing with the abolition of slavery and again the issues around alcohol consumption were
minimally dealt with. Distilled spirits in earlier America was part of bringing Americans together
during times of unity. It was a time to earn easy money and have an all around good time (pg.
354). People enjoyed alcohol in the morning for breakfast as well as a celebratory thing. The
government knew that drinking alcohol or distilled liquor caused some medical issues but again, the

Managed Health Care Analyzed Essay
The health care industry in the United States is very diverse and dynamic. The continued growth
of managed health care is influenced by the economy, the need, and the regulatory regulations set
forth on the industry. If one of these forces changes, it can affect the entire group; this causes the
managed health care industry to be at the mercy of its roots and the industry s need for it. What
started out as a simple idea has turned into a complex and ever growing industry that is necessary
for the health care industry to stay afloat in the world today. The health care system is ever

If the health care market place continues to consolidate, the defined line of managed health care
continues to be blurred. As the health care market demands change, so does the managed health
care plans. These ever changing plans are crucial for the survival of managed health care plans
and companies (Kongstvedt, 2001). Change is inevitable when it is a faltering system; such as
health care and insurance, which means in the health care industry there is nothing constant in the
contemporary managed care systems. When speaking of managed health care, some find it to be
an institution set forth as a response to the consistently rising health care costs, that some viewed
as detrimental to the United States economy as a whole. Others viewed managed care as a
documented response to health care quality problems that have long been ignored. That the
problems managed health care would specifically help rectify patterns of over and underuse,
misuse, and any geographic variation in the medical services provided to citizens (Kongstvedt,
2001). Both of these ideals had a hand in the wide spread adoption of managed health care in the
United States, they do not define the foundational and personal changes that needed to occur in
order to accommodate such a large change. However, following the introduction of the health
maintenance organizations or HMO s there has been an over flow of managed care programs and
products being created in the United States.

Observation Of Parent Infant Interaction
Observational study of parent infant interaction Infants are a special cohort of a population in
the society. Children between the ages of five months to two years are at a stage where they
start familiarizing with their surroundings and have different reactions to situations. The
surrounding where an infant grows greatly determines his or her development. The primary
determinant of the development of infants is the parent infant interaction (Crain, 2015). The
first bond or relation of a child is with its biological parents or guardians in the case of orphaned
children. In this paper, I will analyze the parent infant interaction of a family of four members
comprising of father, mother and two daughters. The mother is a physician in the referral
hospital. The mother is a hardworking woman who is obsessed with perfection. She is
specialized in pediatrics hence aware of many developmental milestones in infants. The
youngest daughter is one and a half years old whereas the firstborn daughter is four years old.
For this assignment, an observation of the younger kid was done in the apartment where the
family lives. According to the observation, the younger child is scared of strangers based on her
reaction when carried by other people who are not part of the family. She cries a lot and seems
scared of the unfamiliar faces. She is in particular resistant to the male individuals. She is
slightly friendly to the females who carry her but remains calm. The reaction was prominent
when one family visited during the observation. The friend was a bearded young man. His hair
was frightening to the kid as she could cry loudly when being carried by him. The positive
attitude towards the female was recognized after the wife of the visiting family carried the kid.
The reaction can be related to the child s preference for gender. The behavior disturbs the mother
as she thinks this might have a negative impact on her child s sexuality. She is worried that the
kid even at her old age is more likely to have a preference for female individuals than male
individuals. Furthermore, based on the observation, the kid is highly attracted to brightly colored
patterns as opposed to dull or darker shades of colors. According to the mom,

Gender Roles In Malcolm X
Showcasing the riveting life of an ex hustler gone Muslim preacher and black separatist, Malcolm
X, directed by Spike Lee, vividly portrays three major interactions between religion and popular
culture. The film depicts the transcendence of popular culture in civil rights movements into a
formative religion, the commodification of religion as an escape, and the outlining of gender roles
and sexual purity.
Firstly, Malcolm s sheer skepticism makes a powerful vehicle for Lee, as he sharply juxtaposes
religious values with Malcolm s own daily necessities and quick fixes. Early in the film, West
Indian Archie indoctrinates an already seditious Malcolm into the life of hustling, gambling, and
doping. As a segue into Malcolm s transition, Lee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lee emphasizes the sex/gender focused aspect of Malcolm s campaign through his direct
teachings, his relationship with Sister Betty, and with Malcolm s own father. Malcolm
proclaimed the protectoral nature of men and the nurturing, loving disposition of women while
sermoning. Later, the film briefly flashes an actual photograph of Malcolm s chalkboard
teachings. Entitled Husbandry, his board states that man = husband = father, man = protector =
provider, man = controller = elevator, man = authority = head. Prior, however, Malcolm and
Betty s relationship wherein Malcolm travels, preaching and earning for his family, while Betty
raises the children at home seems to resonate with the Nation of Islam s standpoint on gender and
sexuality. Thirdly, Malcolm s own father clearly establishes his position as his family s guardian
by shooting away the KKK who burned his family s house to the ground. Malcolm s father even
directly shouts, I am a man! In response to the cowardice the KKK embody in hiding themselves
behind bedsheets and running scared. This is how Malcolm X depicts sexuality and gender

Research Paper On Shinto Religion
Shinto is an ancient indigenous religion of Japan that is often considered Japan s national religion.
It certainly plays an important role in the lives of many, if not most, Japanese people, and it is
closely tied to Japan s national identity. Shinto has no known founder and no sacred texts or formal
written doctrine, which makes it stand out from most of the other religions that we have studied
about this semester. Central to the Shintoreligionis the belief in the kami, which are considered
spirits or gods; in fact, Shinto literally means the way of the kami . According to Shinto beliefs the

According to Shinto beliefs, when a person dies their kami lives on. Ancestor worship is an
aspect of Shinto because adherents believe that their ancestors are spirit deities and look out for
them. Therefore, a Shinto worshipper believes that when a person dies they become a sort of
deity, a sort of family spirit . An interesting ritual related to this that I found is that whenever a
child is born in Japan, a local Shinto shrine adds the child s name to a list kept at the shrine and
declares him or her a family child . In this way, when a person whose name is on the temple s list
dies, they join the spirits of the region. Interestingly enough, when a person moves they often get
their name added to the temple in their new area; this is a sign that the local kami have
welcomed the person and that upon death the person will be able to join those kami. It is
interesting that Shinto followers believe that when a child dies before getting his or her name
added at the Shinto shrine their spirits become mischievous and troublesome kami known as water
spirits . They are sometimes worshipped in order to appease them so that they will not cause any
trouble or get too angry. Although a soul or kami is eternal and able to connect with the Divine,
souls have transitory and fleeting qualities they can change shape, move around or even split so
that two or more elements can exist in different places

undeveloped and wasted, it was once considered unusable and worthless , compared to oil. In
order to try to break our country s dependence on foreign oil supplies, we have begun to dip into
our own natural gas supply. Natural gasis found underground, and is produced when trapped gas is

As more and more natural gas locations are sprouting up so close to home, it makes sense to
explore the risks proven to be associated with fracking. Groundwater polluting of communities
near natural gas drilling sites, has been linked to fracking. At least 15 water wells in Rosebud,
Alberta, have gone bad since EnCana Corporation fracked into their aquifer in search of shale gas
in 2004 (Nelson 25). By fracking into the aquifer, the chemicals used in the process undoubtedly
contaminated the drinking water of the area. Nelson also reports of Rosebud resident, Jessica Ernst
and her family s experience with fracking. Ms. Ernst stated that Encana gas told her family that
they would never fracture near her family s aquifer. By 2005, Ms. Ernst says that her water
started going bad, she was receiving horrible burns and rashes from showering, and her dogs
refused to drink the water so that is when she began to pay attention (Nelson 25). It is a horrible
thought that a person could get burnt taking a shower in their own home or not be able to
provide their pets safe water to drink. In 2006, Ernst decided to go public, showing reporters how
she could set fire to her tap water, and speaking out about the industry (Nelson 25). One gas
company recently bought out the town of Dimock, Pennsylvania, for $4.1 million because fracking
made the water completely undrinkable (Nelson 26). It makes one wonder how large drilling

The time period between 1870 and 1910 was when the literary movements, Realismand Naturalism
in literature became prominent. Authors like Stephen Crane and Mary Chesnut wrote novels that
followed these movements. These writings helped influence today s writers to write more about
current events and how they affect people. The movements are still relevant today as it can be
shown through the arts of authors like; Jerry Spinelli, Nancy Werlin, and Patricia McCormick.

Literature Review On Concussions
The first peer reviewed article source that I used was, Concussions in football: addressing
uncertainty and establishing institutional regulations to protect athletes this source is by Dotson,
Football Concussion. This article is about how concussions have become a serious issue in high
contacts sports. Concussions have gained attention form the neuroscience and neuro law
community. The main goal of this article is to lower the rate of concussions that are happening in
contact sports, and the protect the overall health of an athlete. In this article, they also talk about
how different states around the country have already confronted this issue. I found this topic doing
a google search. I searched up football concussions scholarly articles.... Show more content on

For this interview, I will write down five questions that I want the person to answer. I collected
my field research data on Friday, February 17,2017. On that day, the field research was
conducted at the field house on Seton Hill`s campus. The person that I interviewed was
Katherine Shipe. She is a Licensed Athletic trainer and certified in Association for Contextual
Behavioral Science. The method of doing a Q A field research will benefit my topic the most I
will get a better understanding of the answers that I need for my questions, then looking them up
online. Most of the information that is being put out online is not reliable or it is hard to tell if it
is creditable information. sometimes I may not be able to find exactly what I am are looking for
on the internet. Having a face to face conversation about the topic from the certified professional
athletic trainer Katherine Shipe will help me know what she things on the subject, what I already
know on the subject, and the information that I find on the internet. This field research activity
helped me gain a better understanding on concussions. On the other hand, there were some
obstacles that I ran into. Some of the terminology that Katherine Shipe used about the brain
concussions were new to me. I had to do some research on my own to find out what the words
mean and how they that apply to a

The Objective Of The Experiment Was To Understand The North
The objective of the experiment was to understand the North and South poles of a magnet and
how they relate to each other for a single magnet and two magnets when like poles or unlike poles
are placed together. The results of the experiments verified the properties of magnets with respect
to how like poles repel and how unlike poles attract. Also, electromagnets were created and
investigations confirmed Lenz s law. The experiment produced results that agreed with
expectations, confirming the behavior of like poles, unlike poles, electromagnets and Lenz s law. A
Magnetic FieldSensor was used to measure the magnetic field due to the current flowing in the coil
and showed a steady magnetic field relative to time.

A bar magnate that is allowed to rotate freely, will have one end point in the northerly direction
while the other will point in the southerly direction. The two magnetic poles for each magnet
consist of the South Pole and the North Pole.
Poles that are un similar attract each other, while poles that are similar repel each other. A
permanent magnet attracts a non magnetized object that contains iron to either of its poles. The
earth is a giant magnate itself, with its north geographical pole pointing in the direction of the
magnetic South Pole. This causes the north pole of a compass needle to point north. While isolated
positive and negative charges exist, isolated magnetic poles do not exist. Poles of a magnet always
exist in pairs.
It was 1819, when Han Christian Oersted, the Danish scientist noted for the first time that a
compass needle underwent deflection when to a wire carrying current was placed close to it. This
was the start of the relationship between magnetism and moving charges. Andre Ampere in France
reached a similar conclusion. Soon afterwards Michael Faraday in England and Joseph Henry in
the United States found that a moving a magnet placed near a conducting loop can induce a current
in the loop. Magnetic and electric fields are intertwined. An electric charge at rest results in the
creation of an electric field, which exerts a force on any other charge

Aristotle And St. Augustine
Aristotle and St. Augustine both wrote philosophical works in order to teach us something that
they have learned, in hopes that we will apply it to our own lives. However, Augustine uses a type
of autobiographical style in addition to treatise in his works, while Aristotle only uses the treatise
style in his works. What were they both thinking when they were writing these famous works? Did
they use their respective styles to achieve a goal?
Both authors used their work to teach lessons in a way that would best communicate to the reader
with relation to their own life experiences and careers. Both authors wrote their work as a way of
acknowledging their own mortality. In other words, Aristotle spent a significant part of his life as a
teacher of philosophy, and an earlier part of his learning and Augustine spent most of his later life
teaching the Christian ideals. Both writers wished to teach people after they reached the end of
their life and were to continue to the next one. In addition, they took the opportunity to
communicate to those, during their times and after, who they were not able to speak to directly.
Aristotle, Greek philosopher and author of works including the Nichomachean Ethics, wrote in a
style in which the writer uses methodological discussion in order to reach a conclusion, also known
as treatise. Aristotle, as opposed to St. Augustine and other religious persons, spent his life learning
philosophy and presumably made it a goal to teach others,

Sreedharan did three things to get the project done. First, with infrastructure projects languishing
all over India for lack of funds, he went overseas, tapping the Japan Bank of International
Cooperation for loans to cover 60% of the cost. By comparison, it took the city of Kolkata 22 years
to build its own metro because of a paucity of funds.
Second, Sreedharan scoured the world for top companies with extensive experience in the field.
Pacific Consultants International from Japan advised on the engineering matters, Korea s Rotem
and Japan s Mitsubishi supplied the initial shipment of coaches, while France s Alstom led the
consortium responsible for the design of the automatic train control system.
Delhi Metro Rail An Introduction
Delhi, the capital city of India, is one of the fastest growing cities in the world with a population
of 13 million as reported in the Census of India Report for the year 2000. Until recently, it was
perhaps the only city of its size in the world depending almost entirely on roads as the sole mode
of mass transport. The total length of the road network in Delhi has increased from a mere 652
km in 1981 to 1122 km in 2001 and it is expected to grow to 1340 km in the year 2021. This
increase in road length is not at par with the phenomenal growth in the number of vehicles on these
roads in Delhi. The cumulative figure of registered private and government buses, the

The Importance Of Setting In The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow
Could anybody ask for a better name then Sleepy Hollow for this town. All the people of the
town are sleepy and inactive. There is also a hollow along the Hudson River which is right up
close to the town. In this short story of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Irving captures the setting
well through description, how it affects the characters, and the way it fits with gothic attributes
of this time. In the first couple paragraphs it shows how much Irving wants us to get the creepy
and scared feeling. Not far from this village, perhaps about two miles, there is a little valley or
rather lap of land among high hills, which is one of the quietest places in the world (1). This is
saying that even around the village it is quiet and still. There is emptiness surrounding the village,
lurking and waiting for somebody to pass by. This short storyhas the characters behaviors reflecting
the way the setting is described. In this by place of nature there abode, in a remote period of
American history, that is to say, some thirty years since, a worthy weight of the name of Ichabod

The Great Schism Analysis
Amelia Kasgorgis
Ms. Argue
Mission
March, 10 2015
The Great Schism The Great Schism of 1378 was caused when the papal court, which was based
in Rome, elected an Italian Pope named Pope Urban VI. The French cardinals refused to accept the
Italian Pope so they announced that his election was invalid and elected a new Pope, Pope Clement
VII. Urban VI began to show absence in self control when he criticized the cardinals for their
luxury and laziness and when he revealed his plan of reforming the Church. Urban VI s violent and
abusive treatment towards the cardinals caused them to fear for their lives and believe he was
mentally ill; this lead to the turn against the cardinals to abandon Rome. At Anagni on August 2 the
dissidents published a manifesto in which they pronounced his election null and void, on the
ground that pressure from the Romans had made a free election impossible (Great Western
Schism). When they took away the position as Pope from Urban they elected his rival which was
Clement VII. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Avignon cardinals did the same when Pope Clement died, when they elected Benedict XIII.
Trying to find a solution the University of Paris suggested that the two Popes should resign with
judgment by a summoning of a general council. Pope Boniface IX died and another Roman Pope
was elected, Innocent VII, and after him Gregory XII, both who promised to resign
simultaneously with the French Pope but they never went through with it. Eventually cardinals
from both Rome and Avignon abandoned their Popes and agreed to summon a great council to
end the schism On March 28, 1409. Neither Pope showed up at this council meeting where they
were both deposed as Pope on Jane 5, 1409. The cardinals of the council elected a new Pope,
named Alexander and after his death John XXIII, which didn t work because both Rome and
Avignon Pope would officially step down from their

Essay about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
ABSTRACT
At this time, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis(ALS) is a very confusing and elusive disorder. While
the clinical presentation and diagnosis of ALS dates back to the early 1900 s, with Charcot being
the first to scientifically report and document his findings, there simply has not been definitive
evidence since that time for the etiology for ALS. This fundamental problem has befuddled the most
qualified researchers and its ensuing answer has eluded the most clever experiments for some 80
years.
This paper is being written to address some of the most plausible candidate causes which have
come to the forefront of ALS research in the last few years. This paper will also try to tackle the...

The average age of onset is roughly 60. Even so, much more attention is giving to younger, healthy
individuals who succumb to the disease.
The typical history usually involves early recognition of an onset of clumsiness in the hands and
fingers, with a weakness in the legs soon to follow. There is also bulbar involvement that usually
manifests in problems with speech and swallowing. This bulbar involvement is interesting in that it
may be cytologically distinct from the corticospinal manifestation. The degenerative process itself
is unforgivingly progressive, except for a few permanent plateaus, and for all reasonable
assessments, will yield a fatal outcome. Even so, it should be noted that patients most often do not
die from ALS, but from secondary causes such as infection and pneumonia.
When considering ALS, the relevant question is not what has been proposed as the causative
agent, but what has not been proposed. Over the years, there has been a myriad of theories
concerning the etiology of ALS, some with a valid premise and decent evidence, and others being
way off the mark. Some of the theories that have been advanced include viruses, actions of specific
neurotoxins or heavy metals, failure of DNA repair mechanisms, altered axonal transport, or some
type of unusual autoimmune disease. With a significant volume of scientific literature being
devoted to ALS progress each year, it becomes painfully obvious how confusing it is to extract one
or two well

What Are The Changes In Colonial America
Once the colonists left England and arrived in North America, their diet changed dramatically.
Instead of having the foods they were accustomed to, they had to adapt to fit their environment.
The colonists were also accustomed to a regular eating schedule that they would soon have to
change. The colonists would eat an early breakfast, an early dinner and a late supper, lunch were
not included; however, all this schedule and way of doing things would soon change. Breakfast
in England usually was taken early if they were poor or later if they were rich. While most of their
breakfast consisted of of bread, bread and milk, or cornmeal mush and milk together, along with
tea. However in America, colonists rose early to start chores, then later

Room Of Error In Kevin Hart s Life
Kevin Hart grew up in a Philadelphia Pennsylvania neighborhood that wasn t at all that good.
He lived in a house with his mother Nancy Hart, and older brother Robert Hart. His father is
Henry Witherspoon but he is not an important part of Kevin s life. Kevin s father was always on
drugs and stealing peoples things, even his!!! While growing up Kevin didn t have much, and when
he did it was usually stolen goods that his brother had given him. Kevin s mother was a devoted
Christian woman, while his brother was basically just another hoodlum in the streets, as he says.
On the bright side, after seeing all of the wrong paths that his brother had taken, his mother Nancy
did not allow much room for error in Kevin s life. In this book, Kevin describes his mother as a
very harsh but supportive parent. As a child, if Kevin would backtalk his mother she would grab the

Into The Woods Movie Analyse
Book by James Lapine was a great story overall. I truly enjoyed watching the show especially
when the Music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim played perfectly during the show. Director Eve
Himmelheber was able to put out a such an amazing show. I really enjoyed watching Into The
Woods because it was colorful, every characterwas really great with their role, and so much more.
I could not be more amazed of how beautiful the production came out. Musical Director Mitchell
Hanlon was really great with every musical that played throughout the show. He was always in
time of making the sound when a character would kick the floor or any action that was necessary
during the play. Scenic Designer Mauri Anne Smith and Ashley Strain created such an amazing
setting for the production. The scene looked very realistic, which is really great because it gave me
a different feel of the show. Costume Designer Michelle Kincaid created such beautiful costumes
for every single character. Whether the costumes were bought, hand made, or both it still came out
pretty good. The costume definitely matched the theme of having several characters from different
show. Lighting Designer Ben Hawkins made the interior and... Show more content on

Weight Watchers Buying Preferences
Consumers buying preferences are constantly changing and have a significant influence over how
companies like Weight Watchers address this fluidity. Weight Watchers target market is quite
broad, women aged 30 to 45, so needs to consider two key factors:
1.Consumer behaviour, purchasers of personal and household products.
2.Any or all the four segmentation variables:
Demographic factors such as age, gender, income, education and ethnicity
Geographic factors such as national boundaries, regional districts and suburban postcodes
Psychographic factors such as lifestyle, personality and motive, and
Behavioural factors such as volume usage, brand loyalty and benefit expectations (Pride, 2015).
These factors will ultimately influence a consumer s buying decision and allow organisations to

of this target group.
Potential customers are also being influenced by free or inexpensive diet plans that are popular on

women approach dieting, how they engage with their chosen product and share results

What Are The Thorn Birds By Colleen Mccullough

29 July 2015
They say the world is a book and those who are not fond of travelling read only a page.
Everybody will agree that life without books is really boring, colourless and monotonous. It s a
book that not only can open you a secret world of imagination but also can change your reality into
a better one.
The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough I believe is exactly that kind of a book. I m a book lover
but every time I walk into a bookstore I m completely confused about what book to buy. The same
situation happened with The Thorn Birds. I had no idea what I wanted to buy, so I was just
turning the pages of some book by chance. The salesman s eyes sparkled with admiration when he
found me with that book.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Cattle Herding
Jobs that have become recently obsolete
Due to the industrial revolution and progress of technology, jobs are beginning to become obsolete.
These jobs include; the milk man, inspectors, testers, samplers etc. in factories and drivers.
Milk man
Before fridges were invited men delivered fresh, cool milk right to your doorstep before it spoiled.
This was usually done by young, charming well mannered men. This labour recently ended due to
the introduction of fridges, shopping centres, preservatives and new ways for milk to last longer
(condensed milk).
Inspectors, samplers, testers weighers
Before machines factories hand tested, sampled and weighed products and officials were called in
for inspection. Now we have the technology analyse and inspect products and weight them while
being prepared for packaging. Because of this advancement these workers are no longer needed
and told to move on from the old days .
Drivers
Drivers (not people who drive vehicles) used to manually herd cattle and sheep where ever they
were expected/needed (like cowboys). A robot has recently been created to drive herds and go
stand even the harshest of environments. Although this makes it easier for farmers it has left lots of
drivers unemployed.

  • 2. Renal Cell Carcinoma Of The Kidney Essay The most common genitourinary cancers are, renal cell carcinoma of the kidney, transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder, and adenocarcinoma of the prostat. 1 Renal cell carcinoma, the most common cancer of the kidney, accounts for approximately 90% of all renal malignancies. About 65,000 cases of renal cell carcinoma are diagnosed each year in the U.S. Despite advances in diagnosis, especially improved imaging techniques and the incidental diagnosis of many tumors with imaging tests for unrelated complaints, about 20 30% of all patients are diagnosed with metastatic disease. In addition, another 20% of patients undergoing nephrectomy will have a relapse and develop metastatic RCC during follow up. For patients with (m RCC), the prognosis is extremely poor, which makes the occurrence of (m RCC) a serious problem for oncologic health care around the world. The American Cancer Society s most recent estimates for kidney cancer in the United States are for 2016: About 62,700 new cases (39,650 in men and 23,050 in women) will occur. About 14,240 people (9,240 men and 5,000 women) will die from this disease. These numbers include all types of kidney and renal pelvis cancers. Kidney cancer is among the 10 most common cancers in both men and women. Overall, the lifetime risk for developing kidney cancer is about 1 in 63 (1.6%). This risk is higher in men than in women. For reasons that are not totally clear, the rate of new kidney cancers has been rising since the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why Preston High School Should Not Wear Uniforms Preston High School should not adhere to a school dress code because it limits self expression, high initial cost and can be very uncomfortable. Yes, some people say that school uniforms are better so that you don t have to worry about students wearing inappropriate clothing to school but, wearing the uniformsdoesn t allow the students to show their true selves. People may say uniforms are or can be comfortable but, honestly I don t see how wearing that same exact clothes everyday or each week can be comfortable. I feel like it would be annoying and uncomfortable looking the exact same every day. You may be able to do your hair different and girls can do their make up but, they would still look that same no matter what. Everyone wants to show their true... Getting uniforms do not solve any problems and doesn t do any good. Uniforms will just make students unhappy and honestly just be pointless. It will not stop people from fight over stupid stuff or stop them from spreading rumors to cause drama. Uniforms do not solve any of the bigger issues. The school would have to raise a lot money somehow if they wanted uniforms because there are a lot students in our school and we just don t have the money for that. School uniforms would make all kids feel the same by wearing the same clothes as everyone else and not being able to express themselves. • 4. Information Processing And The Human Mind Information processing theories emphasizes on the way people focus on environmental events, translate information to be learned and find a way to relate the information to the knowledge in the short term memory and then store the knowledge in the long term memory; to retrieve it when need be. The way we process information such as problem solving and critical thinking with such efficiency, it is seen that we perform better than highly sophisticated machines. Even thou the human mind is so incredibly remarkable, researchers didn t develop systematic models of memory, cognition, and thinking until the 20th century. In the 1950s, the only pronounced research model was the information processingmodel (IPM). Information processing is not the name of a single theory; it is a generic name applied to theoretical perspectives dealing with the sequence and execution of cognitive events (Sch.164). Because of these multiple theory perspectives, information processing is short of a clear identity. Most of the researcher on information processing was done in a lab where they studied eye movements, recognition and recall times, attention to stimuli, and interference in perceptionand memory. The researchers are still trying to apply educational settings that involve the basics; math, reading, and science. Theorists believe that learning starts to form with relations between the stimuli and responses, which is one of the characteristics in behaviorism. The only reason theorists don t ... Disadvantages Of Team Training Team Training Team building and team training is quite an effective way of keeping the morale, of team members, up and their individual capabilities, in parallel to the objectives of a whole team. Being a part of the business that values the team building the same as it does in the case of gathering new customers, is really something which only the luckier ones get. Believe us! There are many team building methods that a brand can use for increasing the team bonding and thus leading to a productivity level, even higher than before. But of all the methods, team training is the most effective one. These goals and objectives change as the team grows in different stages, i.e. forming stage, storming stage, and norming stage. Each stage features its own reasoning, advantages, and disadvantages. For example, the forming stage deals with binding the group, so that the group members get to know each other and begin to have a sense of what an actual team looks like. It also focuses on aligning the individual purposes so that they reinforce each other s goals as if they have shared targets. Moreover, the roles of the leader are also established here. The storming stage takes the objectives of the forming stage to a level above while adding more to it. This stage ensures that all the members are enjoying good working relationships with each other and are capable of sharing thoughts without any difficulty. This leads to nurturing the shared problem solving skills and assists in the generation of new ideas. In this stage and from here on, short term objectives and milestones are used to get a clear picture of how the team is performing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Over Indulgence In Materialistic Views In The Veldt By Ray... Many people would argue that society has become oblivious to the side effects of indulging in materialistic objects. Although Ray Bradbury wrote the story The Veldt over 50 years ago, he discusses this timeless issue of people caring more for materialistic objects than each other. In Bradbury s short story The Veldt , the children in the family, Wendy and Peter, have relied on the technological objects they have too much, and will do anything to keep them despite being told no by their parents, George and Lydia. Through the use of imagery, motifs and foreshadowing Ray Bradbury proves that over indulgence in materialistic views can have grave consequences. Ray Bradbury uses foreshadowing to prove that over indulgence in materialistic views can have grave consequences. For example on page 3, Bradbury hints that the children will do something bad because he writes, When I punished him a month ago by locking the nursery... the tantrum he threw (Bradbury 3). The reader continues to grow worried about Peter and Wendy s behavior when there are screams coming from the nursery. Therefore, Bradbury establishes that the children are overly connected to their tech not their own parents. That is why it is not surprising to the reader when the kids lock their parents in the nursery to get them killed. This is shows foreshadowing works in proving that over indulgence in materialistic views can have grave consequences by showing that in this perfect utopia, this is the first that the reader has heard anything about a kerfuffle between the children and the parents. Another reason why, is the parents are talking about turning the whole house off for a month which is a lot longer than a few hours. In conclusion Bradbury uses the dark hints of the parent s demise to prove that over indulgence in materialistic views can have grave consequences, by showing that when people become too reliable on the things that they can hold, and as soon as they are taken away, we have no idea what to do without them. Ray Bradbury uses motifs to prove that over indulgence in materialistic views can have grave consequences. For example on page 5 George, the father, is walking down the hall and hears a scream coming from the nursery. The sound ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Benefits Of Telecommuting At The Industrial Revolution Essay Prior to the industrial revolution, working from home was a practice that had been around for years before the phenomenon of telecommuting was created. Telecommuting, a term coined by Jack Nilles (Venkatraman, 1994), describes someone who works from home or a telecommuting site through the use of the Internet and other forms of technology. Mirroring the past, many people telework today because it is required by their occupation or simply because it is convenient. Whatever the reason may be, the effects of telework as a prominent practice permit it to be considered a norm in our society. With telecommutingbecoming a fast growing ubiquitous phenomenon, it should be considered the norm for suitable occupations (e.g. sales representative, customer service representative, and software developer) because of the benefits it affords the employee/individual, the employer/organization, and society. Benefits of Telecommuting towards the Employee/Individual Telecommuting should be the new normal because of the benefits such as autonomy, increased productivity, and savings in time and expenses it affords the employee/individual. A major aspect of telecommuting is that it provides individuals with autonomy or independence over their craft. The absence of a person of authority directly monitoring an employee gives the employee the sense of control. With this sense of autonomy placed on an individual, they are expected to discipline themselves and dictate their work schedule at home in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Dr Moreau Duality Of Man The duality of man has had many definitions over the years, and in this case the most simplistic is the best option. The idea of man having two sides to them, not necessarily just physical sides, but also mental; both happen to be in their nature. In The Island of Dr. Moreau, many conflicting character traits are strong indicators of the duality of man, specifically how humanity and inhumanity are intertwined. What is it that makes someone inhuman rather than human? We humans, have evolved into the beings that we are today, how we look, how we think, and how we act, along with our desires; are all parts of what makes us human. When something is described as inhuman, it is usually lacking those qualities. Human and inhuman in relation to the novel, are shown through Moreau s attempts to erase the divide between animal and man. Creating man from animals is Moreau s way of having his favorite version of humans at the forefront. The beasts, would be able to speak and act like humans without some of the parts that make a human, human their desires and mental capacity are very limited to the necessities. He believes, that experimenting on the animals and having them be generally human, without any of their basic animal instincts, will in fact solidify them as man. When in ... After following a white rabbit down a dark, never ending hole, she sees a beautiful garden full of distinguished colored flowers unlike anything she has ever seen before. With the colors of her imagination, Alice longs to wander about among those beds of bright flowers and those cool fountains (Carroll 19). However, upon waking up she comes back to reality with the normalcy of colors and humans. No more is she surrounded by the impossibilities of a talking chesire cat or the abnormalities of a crazed tea party in which a door mouse lives in a tea kettle. She is once again back to the reality where she must act appropriately and do schoolwork. One of those parts included is his ability to dream and imagine enchantments such as wonderland. Second, in a philosophical ground because it is not only repeat a story, but also reasoning about its meaning. Third, his personal ground because he has to face his internal enemies of jealousy, and the insecurity of facing the sense and sensibility of a woman. Race Ethnicity And Gender In The Lowell Factory While reading the assigned article, I was immediately interested since I am currently learning about the foundation of women s rights in History. Race ethnicity and gender shaped the workforce in the early textile mills by paying women half of what they pay males for the same job. This shows the difference between a primary labor market and a secondary labor market; The primary market being which men get paid higher wages than those of women. Race also had an impact on the workforce by immigrants offering to work for such low wages as women would, sometimes being rejected from any job at all. Women in the Lowell Factory were so closely supervised because women women who were closely supervised were not able to organize. The history of drug use represents lessons that were long been seen but obviously overlooked by doctors as well as pharmaceutical companies. The earlier efforts by government to regulate drug use or alcohol consumption began with some regulations on Jamaican rum. Since distilled liquor was used in social events, the government approaches in regulating the trafficking of the distilled liquor was by levying heavy fines on the general tariff bill. The cost of importing Jamaican rum was costlier than distilled liquor here in America. Again, at the time, the government was mostly dealing with the abolition of slavery and again the issues around alcohol consumption were minimally dealt with. Distilled spirits in earlier America was part of bringing Americans together during times of unity. It was a time to earn easy money and have an all around good time (pg. 354). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the health care market place continues to consolidate, the defined line of managed health care continues to be blurred. As the health care market demands change, so does the managed health care plans. These ever changing plans are crucial for the survival of managed health care plans and companies (Kongstvedt, 2001). Change is inevitable when it is a faltering system; such as health care and insurance, which means in the health care industry there is nothing constant in the contemporary managed care systems. When speaking of managed health care, some find it to be an institution set forth as a response to the consistently rising health care costs, that some viewed as detrimental to the United States economy as a whole. Others viewed managed care as a documented response to health care quality problems that have long been ignored. That the problems managed health care would specifically help rectify patterns of over and underuse, misuse, and any geographic variation in the medical services provided to citizens (Kongstvedt, 2001). Both of these ideals had a hand in the wide spread adoption of managed health care in the United States, they do not define the foundational and personal changes that needed to occur in order to accommodate such a large change. Children between the ages of five months to two years are at a stage where they start familiarizing with their surroundings and have different reactions to situations. The surrounding where an infant grows greatly determines his or her development. The primary determinant of the development of infants is the parent infant interaction (Crain, 2015). The first bond or relation of a child is with its biological parents or guardians in the case of orphaned children. In this paper, I will analyze the parent infant interaction of a family of four members comprising of father, mother and two daughters. The mother is a physician in the referral hospital. The mother is a hardworking woman who is obsessed with perfection. She is specialized in pediatrics hence aware of many developmental milestones in infants. The youngest daughter is one and a half years old whereas the firstborn daughter is four years old. For this assignment, an observation of the younger kid was done in the apartment where the family lives. According to the observation, the younger child is scared of strangers based on her reaction when carried by other people who are not part of the family. She cries a lot and seems scared of the unfamiliar faces. She is in particular resistant to the male individuals. She is slightly friendly to the females who carry her but remains calm. The reaction was prominent when one family visited during the observation. The friend was a bearded young man. His hair was frightening to the kid as she could cry loudly when being carried by him. The positive attitude towards the female was recognized after the wife of the visiting family carried the kid. The reaction can be related to the child s preference for gender. The behavior disturbs the mother as she thinks this might have a negative impact on her child s sexuality. She is worried that the kid even at her old age is more likely to have a preference for female individuals than male individuals. Furthermore, based on the observation, the kid is highly attracted to brightly colored patterns as opposed to dull or darker shades of colors. According to the mom, ... The film depicts the transcendence of popular culture in civil rights movements into a formative religion, the commodification of religion as an escape, and the outlining of gender roles and sexual purity. Firstly, Malcolm s sheer skepticism makes a powerful vehicle for Lee, as he sharply juxtaposes religious values with Malcolm s own daily necessities and quick fixes. Entitled Husbandry, his board states that man = husband = father, man = protector = provider, man = controller = elevator, man = authority = head. Prior, however, Malcolm and Betty s relationship wherein Malcolm travels, preaching and earning for his family, while Betty raises the children at home seems to resonate with the Nation of Islam s standpoint on gender and sexuality. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Shinto beliefs, when a person dies their kami lives on. Ancestor worship is an aspect of Shinto because adherents believe that their ancestors are spirit deities and look out for them. Therefore, a Shinto worshipper believes that when a person dies they become a sort of deity, a sort of family spirit . An interesting ritual related to this that I found is that whenever a child is born in Japan, a local Shinto shrine adds the child s name to a list kept at the shrine and declares him or her a family child . In this way, when a person whose name is on the temple s list dies, they join the spirits of the region. Interestingly enough, when a person moves they often get their name added to the temple in their new area; this is a sign that the local kami have welcomed the person and that upon death the person will be able to join those kami. It is interesting that Shinto followers believe that when a child dies before getting his or her name added at the Shinto shrine their spirits become mischievous and troublesome kami known as water spirits . They are sometimes worshipped in order to appease them so that they will not cause any trouble or get too angry. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As more and more natural gas locations are sprouting up so close to home, it makes sense to explore the risks proven to be associated with fracking. Groundwater polluting of communities near natural gas drilling sites, has been linked to fracking. At least 15 water wells in Rosebud, Alberta, have gone bad since EnCana Corporation fracked into their aquifer in search of shale gas in 2004 (Nelson 25). By fracking into the aquifer, the chemicals used in the process undoubtedly contaminated the drinking water of the area. Nelson also reports of Rosebud resident, Jessica Ernst and her family s experience with fracking. Ms. Ernst stated that Encana gas told her family that they would never fracture near her family s aquifer. By 2005, Ms. Ernst says that her water started going bad, she was receiving horrible burns and rashes from showering, and her dogs refused to drink the water so that is when she began to pay attention (Nelson 25). It is a horrible thought that a person could get burnt taking a shower in their own home or not be able to provide their pets safe water to drink. In 2006, Ernst decided to go public, showing reporters how she could set fire to her tap water, and speaking out about the industry (Nelson 25). One gas company recently bought out the town of Dimock, Pennsylvania, for $4.1 million because fracking made the water completely undrinkable (Nelson 26). It makes one wonder how large drilling ... After the Civil War during the Reconstruction Era, many changed their outlook from optimistic to a more realistic outlook on life. The time period between 1870 and 1910 was when the literary movements, Realismand Naturalism in literature became prominent. Authors like Stephen Crane and Mary Chesnut wrote novels that followed these movements. These writings helped influence today s writers to write more about current events and how they affect people. The movements are still relevant today as it can be shown through the arts of authors like; Jerry Spinelli, Nancy Werlin, and Patricia McCormick. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Objective Of The Experiment Was To Understand The North The objective of the experiment was to understand the North and South poles of a magnet and how they relate to each other for a single magnet and two magnets when like poles or unlike poles are placed together. The results of the experiments verified the properties of magnets with respect to how like poles repel and how unlike poles attract. Also, electromagnets were created and investigations confirmed Lenz s law. The experiment produced results that agreed with expectations, confirming the behavior of like poles, unlike poles, electromagnets and Lenz s law. A Magnetic FieldSensor was used to measure the magnetic field due to the current flowing in the coil and showed a steady magnetic field relative to time. Sources of error could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A bar magnate that is allowed to rotate freely, will have one end point in the northerly direction while the other will point in the southerly direction. The two magnetic poles for each magnet consist of the South Pole and the North Pole. Poles that are un similar attract each other, while poles that are similar repel each other. A permanent magnet attracts a non magnetized object that contains iron to either of its poles. The earth is a giant magnate itself, with its north geographical pole pointing in the direction of the magnetic South Pole. This causes the north pole of a compass needle to point north. While isolated positive and negative charges exist, isolated magnetic poles do not exist. Poles of a magnet always exist in pairs. It was 1819, when Han Christian Oersted, the Danish scientist noted for the first time that a compass needle underwent deflection when to a wire carrying current was placed close to it. This was the start of the relationship between magnetism and moving charges. Andre Ampere in France reached a similar conclusion. Soon afterwards Michael Faraday in England and Joseph Henry in the United States found that a moving a magnet placed near a conducting loop can induce a current in the loop. Magnetic and electric fields are intertwined. An electric charge at rest results in the creation of an electric field, which exerts a force on any other charge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Aristotle And St. Augustine Aristotle and St. Augustine both wrote philosophical works in order to teach us something that they have learned, in hopes that we will apply it to our own lives. However, Augustine uses a type of autobiographical style in addition to treatise in his works, while Aristotle only uses the treatise style in his works. What were they both thinking when they were writing these famous works? Did they use their respective styles to achieve a goal? Both authors used their work to teach lessons in a way that would best communicate to the reader with relation to their own life experiences and careers. Both authors wrote their work as a way of acknowledging their own mortality. In other words, Aristotle spent a significant part of his life as a teacher of philosophy, and an earlier part of his learning and Augustine spent most of his later life teaching the Christian ideals. Both writers wished to teach people after they reached the end of their life and were to continue to the next one. In addition, they took the opportunity to communicate to those, during their times and after, who they were not able to speak to directly. Aristotle, Greek philosopher and author of works including the Nichomachean Ethics, wrote in a style in which the writer uses methodological discussion in order to reach a conclusion, also known as treatise. Aristotle, as opposed to St. Augustine and other religious persons, spent his life learning philosophy and presumably made it a goal to teach others, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Great Schism Analysis Amelia Kasgorgis Ms. Argue Mission March, 10 2015 The Great Schism The Great Schism of 1378 was caused when the papal court, which was based in Rome, elected an Italian Pope named Pope Urban VI. The French cardinals refused to accept the Italian Pope so they announced that his election was invalid and elected a new Pope, Pope Clement VII. Urban VI began to show absence in self control when he criticized the cardinals for their luxury and laziness and when he revealed his plan of reforming the Church. Urban VI s violent and abusive treatment towards the cardinals caused them to fear for their lives and believe he was mentally ill; this lead to the turn against the cardinals to abandon Rome. At Anagni on August 2 the dissidents published a manifesto in which they pronounced his election null and void, on the ground that pressure from the Romans had made a free election impossible (Great Western Schism). While the clinical presentation and diagnosis of ALS dates back to the early 1900 s, with Charcot being the first to scientifically report and document his findings, there simply has not been definitive evidence since that time for the etiology for ALS. This fundamental problem has befuddled the most qualified researchers and its ensuing answer has eluded the most clever experiments for some 80 years. This paper is being written to address some of the most plausible candidate causes which have come to the forefront of ALS research in the last few years. This paper will also try to tackle the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The average age of onset is roughly 60. Even so, much more attention is giving to younger, healthy individuals who succumb to the disease. The typical history usually involves early recognition of an onset of clumsiness in the hands and fingers, with a weakness in the legs soon to follow. There is also bulbar involvement that usually manifests in problems with speech and swallowing. This bulbar involvement is interesting in that it may be cytologically distinct from the corticospinal manifestation. The degenerative process itself is unforgivingly progressive, except for a few permanent plateaus, and for all reasonable assessments, will yield a fatal outcome. Even so, it should be noted that patients most often do not die from ALS, but from secondary causes such as infection and pneumonia. When considering ALS, the relevant question is not what has been proposed as the causative agent, but what has not been proposed. Over the years, there has been a myriad of theories concerning the etiology of ALS, some with a valid premise and decent evidence, and others being way off the mark. Some of the theories that have been advanced include viruses, actions of specific neurotoxins or heavy metals, failure of DNA repair mechanisms, altered axonal transport, or some type of unusual autoimmune disease. With a significant volume of scientific literature being devoted to ALS progress each year, it becomes painfully obvious how confusing it is to extract one or two well ...
